The contact owns a 2017 Acura MDX. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the transmission system error message displayed. The contact pulled over to the right side of the road and turned off, and attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to respond. A local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall and suggested that the failure be reported to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 92,000.

I was driving and all of the sudden I hear a pop and total engine failure. I was lucky to be traveling at 45 mph and could coast off the road safely. After the damage occurred the motor would not turn over again. I had it towed to Acura and they told me my motor was locked up and specifically that my camshaft bearing had failed. I asked about the recall and they said my vin was not selected for the damage therefore there was nothing they could do other than replace the motor at my expense. I have yet to repair this vehicle and it has been sitting untouched ever since it was towed back to my home.
I recently took my vehicle in for service due to a noise coming from the oil pan area. Upon further inspection from my mechanic is appears that my vehicle had metal shavings in the oil pan and seems to be related to the connecting rod bearing issue that a recall was issued for. Unfortunately my vehicle was not part of the recall for this issue and perhaps should be included in potential expanded recall. I was told by my mechanic that I would need to either buy a used motor or new motor however my concern with a used motor is that I could potentially have the same issue again and be dealing with engine failure.
While travelling at highway speeds, I removed my foot from the accelerator to adjust speed for a lane change. When changing lanes and acceleration was then needed, there was no response from the engine for ~5 seconds. I depressed the accelerator several times with no response, which nearly caused an accident during the lane change. The engine did not stall. Eventually, the engine responded to the accelerator input. This has occurred multiple times under similar circumstances.
On [XXX], while driving from Orlando, FL to Atlanta, GA, I experienced one of the most terrifying moments of my life. I was traveling on the freeway at approximately 80 MPH, in lane 3 or 4, when my vehicle suddenly began to hesitate and lose power without any warning. In that moment, fear and panic took over. Cars were flying past me, and I could feel my truck rapidly decelerating. I immediately turned on my hazard lights and began honking to alert other drivers, praying they would give me space to move over. Thankfully, I was able to carefully navigate across lanes and reach the far-left shoulder. Once I got into the acceleration/deceleration lane, the vehicle suddenly lurched forward and began accelerating again—completely on its own. I knew I couldn't risk staying on the road, so I exited at the next ramp and pulled into a gas station, still shaken. After refueling, I attempted to restart the truck, but it would no longer shift into Drive or Neutral. The truck was stuck in Park and completely inoperable. A roadside mechanic responded to my call for help and made several attempts to restore mobility, but nothing worked. I spent the evening stranded and alone, unsure of what to do next. The following day, [XXX], I had the vehicle towed to Honda South near Atlanta, GA. After inspection, I was informed that the issue was a complete transmission failure. In addition to needing a new transmission, the vehicle also required replacement of critical sub-assembly components, including the transmission control module (TCM). This situation was not just a mechanical failure—it was a serious safety event that put my life and the lives of others at risk. I’m still shaken by what happened and deeply concerned about how such a failure could occur so suddenly and without warning. We purchased vehicle in Sept 2020. The vehicle has always had a rough jerk or rough shift when initially moving at stop lights or any stop and as vehicle is accelerated and to shifting to next gear. It is not a smooth transmission shift from initial start to first few gears. Just seems that at any time transmission may fail and vehicles behind may run into it.
Our engine started making a loud knocking noise that was clearly not good. We had a friend who is a mechanic come put it on the computer and he diagnosed that the rocker arm took out some valves or lifters. He looked up the car and found a recall for our make and model (2017 MDX with the 3.5L engine) that matches our exact issue. But the VIN does not appear in the search so our car is not covered by the recall despite it clearly being caused by the defect. I understand that there is an investigation into this that the NHTSA opened and Honda has been pushing for extensions. I was encouraged to add our car to this list to help you all see that the problem is much larger than originally thought. We are in a very tough spot and do not have the $5-10k to replace the engine. If the recall is not expanded soon, our only hope is that we get a goodwill repair. We have requested this, but are waiting to hear back from the dealer. Thank you for looking into this. I’m sure we are not the only people in a tough financial spot being affected by this. We appreciate your efforts to protect consumers!
I reported these issues to Acura corporate and to Jackson Acura, dealership I purchased the vehicle from in February 2024. Beginning in July 2024 the vehicle would stall, de-accelerate then the automatic brake would engage, and the vehicle would go into "N" mode, Neutral and lock up. I was able to press the gas pedal a few times, and the vehicle would come back online and drive. This issue happens about every 100 miles driven. On [XXX] the vehicle suddenly de-accelerated, went into auto brake mode and then shifted into neutral. On this date the vehicle locked up suddenly to an abrupt stop, we were almost impacted in the rear with two other vehicles having to take evasive action to avoid hitting us. My wife and I were lucky not to injured by the sudden brake, or transmission lock up. There were no other issues with the vehicle until this date, other than the stall issue. It seems the system had a sudden catastrophic failure. the car has been maintained with oil changes, new battery and transmission service. The car was shutdown then restarted. All the lights on the dash were on and the vehicle was unable to shift to any gear. The vehicle had to be towed to my home address. I was advised to have the vehicle towed to a dealer for diagnostics at my expense. It is currently at Nalley Acura, Marietta, Ga being diagnosed for the issues. The vehicle has 74,000 miles currently. It was purchased with 57,700 miles from Jacson Acura as a certified Acura used vehicle. The Acura dealer and Acura corporate both stated my VIN # was not included in the recalls. It should be included in the recalls as it has the same issues as other Acura models. The transmission failed. It is not able to be inspected unless retrieved by the dealer. While driving the vehicle the transmission would disengage. There were no warning lights or failures picked up by the CAN bus. This would happen during normal driving on the highway, potentially leaving the vehicle stranded in the middle of the highway. When issue occurred the transmission would make a whining noise. I was able to replicate the issue with the dealer. I am unaware if the part was inspected. I contacted Acura of America to report the problem. The issue mimicked the reported recall that Acura issue on a portion of MDX of the same year. They offered no assistance to the issue. There were no warning lights or indicators to let me know of a transmission issue.
I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY 2024 FROM A CERTIFIED ACUARA DEALER. ON DECEMBER 26TH THE VEHCILE SUDDENLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL MODE AND WOULD NOT CHANGE INTO ANY OTHER GEAR. THE CAR WAS SHUTDOWN AND RESTARTED ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER WITH THE DASHBOARD FULL OF WARNING LAMPS AT START UP. I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE CAR FROM THE ROADWAY BUT THE GEAR SHIFT CONTROL WOULD NOT WORK IN ANY GEAR. TRANSMISSION WARNING LAMP CAME ON. THE CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO MY HOME ADDRESS. THIS CAR WAS ACURA CERTIED USED. IT HAS BEEN MAINTAIND BY A HONDA SERVICE CENTER. ACURA, HONDA AND THE ACURA DEALER LOCALLY ALL HAVE STATED THERE ARE NO ISSUES WITH THE CAR OR WARRANTIES FOR THE ISSUES. THE CAR HAS 74582 MILES. BASED ON ONLINE FORUMS THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH MANY ACURA MDX OWNERS. ACURA AND HONDA AMERICA ARE NOT ACEPTING THEIR PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE. LASTLY, WE NEARLY AVOIDED BEING IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT DUE TO THE SUDDEN STOP ON THE ROADWAY

I was driving on the interstate yesterday ([XXX]) and the transmission suddenly downshifted gears and also went to neutral. I managed to pull to the shoulder, but the sudden loss of power could easily have been life threatening at a more crowded time of day or in poor weather. The car was towed to McDaniel Acura in Columbia, SC (I was out of town) and problem confirmed. I also called my regular mechanic (a Honda specialist) and he said this was a known problem and referenced Acura service bulletin [XXX] which says to reload new software. Codes were: Transmission code P0716 Parking Brake System U0401-68 Parking brake warning light on Blind spot warning light on Why hasn't there been a recall on this??? It's a known problem and I could easily have been killed and hurt others. If not a recall, at least at least do something to alert owners so they can get it fixed proactively if they want, as opposed to breaking down on the side of an interstate for hours. Ive brought my MDX to the dealership service department 6 times for this issue, my car has been with the service department this last time since Nov 28th consecutively. In September I brought it in because my car would shift to park when the auto start/stop engaged, I would have to hit the brakes, shift back in to drive before I could take off. I was told there were 2 recalls that we remedied at that time. I brought my car back in a couple weeks later because the issue was persisting, I also started to get transmission and blind spot monitoring system alerts in those 2 weeks. I was told by the service department that the recall update wasn't "completed" when I brought it the previous time. The shift to park still was not fixed. At the 3rd time to the service department they replaced my starter. After this was done the issues with the car got worse, the car would give me transmission alerts, emission system alerts, power brake, blind spot, etc. & the "D" for drive on the dash would blink. Park would also blink. On the 4th trip they replaced my shifter assembly. After this the issues with the car further worsened and I would get all of the previously mentioned alerts, then my car would shift to neutral and another alert would pop up saying "pull over and park when safe to do so". Thankfully I was never on the interstate when this happened. I have to coast until I can pull off the road. After turning the car off then back on I was still not able to shift in to gear. I had the car towed to Acura, this (5th trip) time they replaced my transmission computer module. The car did the same thing the day after I picked it up. I had it towed back to them again, this latest trip they replaced my powertrain computer module, it did not fix the issue. My MDX has been at the dealership since Nov 28th because they do not know what to attempt to fix next. Im not being given any recourse. There are class-action lawsuits regarding this issue on the internet, so it is not unique to me
When stopping for traffic or at a light and accelerating for take off the car has a delay. It does nothing. It’s a 2sec delay that will be deadly to someone.
In October I noticed my engine knocking. It has always made a ticking sound so how long it might have knocked before we noticed I don’t know however in October it was clearly noticeable. The first thing I did was check my oil level and it was full. Over the several days it became more noticeable and one morning while driving my check engine light came on and the vehicle lost most(maybe 80%) of it’s power although it did continue running and I managed to make it home and immediately scheduled an appointment with Pecheles Honda to have it looked at. When I started the car the next morning the engine light was off and I drove it to the Honda dealership where I was told I would need a new engine. We regularly had the oil changed using synthetic oil and it never burned one drop of oil so I didn’t have any idea how or why it could have happened because it is very common for issues like this to occur due to low engine oil. Last week I learned of a recall on multiple Honda and Acura vehicles the same year and model as mine due to faulty rod bearings with symptoms exactly like I experienced only to find out that mine is not included in the recall. Right now it is sitting in my yard because I don’t have $10,000 to get the motor replaced. The Honda service manager and their best mechanic were at a loss at how the motor could have went so pre maturely. Something faulty had to have been put in that motor because I took great care of that car and never drove it hard. Before this car we had a 2003 Honda Pilot we owned for nearly 15 years with 300,000 miles on it that never had one issue the whole time we had it and this issue should not happen to 6 year old Acura’s. I wanted to document this issue and hope anyone else going through the same misfortune with these vehicles does the same.
In October the car had 46,000 miles and suddenly the car stopped because there was a transmission problem and we went to the dealer, they said it was an update the software problem, this is considered is not safe for me and my family because the car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road. What if I was going 60 mph on the highway and they car suddenly stopped and caused an accident, and someone was hurt. I don't think it is an update problem. This morning I went to the dealer to talk about it, and they refused to do anything, and we are just reporting and if in the future it happens again then what are we supposed to do if we're on the middle of the highway.
When pulling into traffic the car wants to hesitate almost like stalling when going from 1st to 2nd gear 1st thing in the morning. Almost causing a crash it does it every morning after the car is driving the car for a while it no longer does it. There are no check engine lights on
The contact owns a 2017 Acura MDX. The contact stated while at a stop light, the vehicle would not shift out of park. The contact attempted shifting into another gear however, the vehicle would not shift out of park. The vehicle was towed to the dealer however, because the vehicle would not shift out of park, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 60,000. The VIN was not available.

While in a residential area we were accelerating from a slow speed as we were leaving one corner and preparing to enter a second corner. The car then suddenly lurched forward followed by the drivetrain immediately entered into neutral - losing all forward power. We were able to coast across the end of a residential driveway. (The owner wasn’t thrilled about that at first but understood after an explanation.) We then turned the car off, ans waited about 15 minutes before restarting the car. At that point everything worked normally with no indication of a continuation of the problem. The car was in the comfort dynamic mode at the time. Although the transmission went into neutral during the incident the shift clearly remained in the drive position. We were very careful about checking to see if we had somehow been at fault - bit this was definitely not driver’s error. We were fortunate on two fronts. Firstly, had an adult or child been in the crosswalk we were approaching at the time it could have ended badly. Secondly, we were at slow speed in modest traffic and had enough momentum to safely coast out of traffic. However, the incident was unsettling and we remain highly cautious about driving the car now. Later that evening we drove the car for about 30 minutes attempting to recreate the incident or see if we noticed anything odd at all about the transmission, shift, or electronics. We did this on a secluded road, using each of the car’s dynamic modes, at varying speeds, and changing acceleration. However, we were not able to recreate the incident. We did not notice anything odd about the car and no warning lights came on. There were also no warning lights leading up to or during the incident. The vehicle is available for inspection if requested. To be fair, we have not yet contacted the dealership. However given the seriousness of this issue and potential danger we felt it was important to report it right away.

On Friday May 5th, 2023 myson was driving our 2017 Acura MDX in heavy rush hour traffic on Interstate 355 near Homer Glen when suddenly and without warning the transmission failed and caused sudden deacceleration. He drove the car which was going 7 mph and engine revving and starting to clatter to get off the freeway. The check engine light came on. He called and informed me while on the exit ramp. I instructed him to pull into the Gas N Wash filling station at 15930 W 159th and shut the engine off, I left home immediately and upon arrival I looked under the hood for oil leakage or low level and belts broken. When I started the motor a knocking sound caused me to turn it off. This could have caused an accident due to heavy traffic at 70 MPH posted speed limit. The car has been towed to local mechanic shop for diagnosis. My online research indicates a Class Action Suit and countless complaints of similar unsafe operation and transmission failure. We purchased this Vehicle new in 2017 from Rizza Acura, Orland Park, IL and have had regular maintenance performed since purchase date.
at highway speeds, the transmission unexpectedly shifts to neutral with no warning. The only indication is unexpected decrease in speed and accompanying engine rev. My typical driver response is to take foot off accelerator, then put back on again. Engine overrevs then shifts in to gear. I'd estimate it's out of gear for ~ 5 seconds, but hard to say in the heat of the driving moment. This happens 1-2X most highway trips, but not occur at lower speeds (it does not shift very smoothly in lower gears at times, but it's not currently a safety issue). I've taken it to my local dealer (Hendrick Acura, Durham, NC) and contacted Acura Customer Care, and am trying to get a diagnostic scheduled (it's been a process). The behavior started to worsen over the past several months (e.g. the slip to neutral has lengthened in time) but shorter slips have been occurring for a longer time period.
On a 2,000 mile family road trip the car shifted to neutral two times at highway speeds. Fortunately, I didn't lose my power steering or power brakes. The car remained on but I had no power. Then the car jerked, the rpm's dropped to 1,000 and then jumped around a little and the car took off again.
I was on the feeder road of a major freeway in Houston Texas at a stop the brake fully applied. The auto engine idle stop was enabled. When I removed my foot from the brake the engine did not restart. The lights, radio remained on but I was unable to drive my car or change the gear shift. Being on a freeway feeder was a dangerous place to be stalled and had to wait in major traffic for a tow truck to come as the vehicle could not be started or turned off. Completely inoperable. The check engine light was on and oil light. I was towed to a nearby maintenance shop where a p2638 code was listed. After the car was towed the car would restart. Prior to the incident there have been other occasions where the vehicle struggles to restart the engine from the auto idle. However there were no warning lights. Additionally I scheduled service with the dealership the next day and they show an auto idle recall as an item for repair. There is no recall listed on Nhtsa. Additionally I see a class action lawsuit was filed earlier this week for a potential ongoing, long term issue related to this product.
I had the transmission system failure error came on the dash and the car wouldn’t drive to D or reverse then blind spot and adaptive cruise control error propped up
My 2017 Acura MDX has many issues with both the transmission and electrical. It has an issue shifting between gears, makes a loud sound like metal on wash board, then loses power for 3-5 seconds. I went to put the car in drive and it would not go in drive recently. I've now had to replace the transmission at 79,006 miles. The electrical system lights up when driving telling me my electronic parking brake has been engaged and also that there is emission system issues. My daughter was terrified and crying since i had a loss of power at the same time my dash lit up and I had to get across 5 lanes of traffic to the shoulder of road. The towing company had to remove battery cable to get my electric parking break to release. This is a dangerous and scary automobile
Traveling on I-49 north at approximately 80 mph without any sign of a problem when suddenly the car began breaking, shifted into neutral, hazards flashing, and every light on my dash lit up (Emission system Failure, Braking Failure, and Transmission Failure). At first I thought it had something to do with the cruise control, so I tried turning that off, which did not help, so I pulled over to the shoulder safely. This really could have been dangerous had there been more traffic because the car could not accelerate. Once on the shoulder I engaged the parking break as the car would not shift into park or any other gear. I turned off the car while I called state police and roadside assistance. After a while I was able to turn the car on and move it to reverse because I was about 30 yards past an entrance ramp that I could go to off the interstate. All lights were still lit up on the dash. It sounded rough. This was a very dangerous situation and Acrua needs to address this. It is currently awaiting evaluation at Acura of Lafayette.
Complete Transmission failure at 77,000 miles. Vehicle lost power at highway speeds causing a dangerous situation and stranded our family 650 miles from home. Had vehicle towed to the nearest acura dealership where I was told the transmission was terminal and needed to be replaced. Three weeks later the dealership has failed to find a transmission and nothing has happened. Acura extended a good faith discount on the repairs 4k down from 9k because it failed just out of warranty.
I was driving on the highway at normal highway speeds of 70MPH when the car lost the ability to accelerate, and I was forced to make an emergency stop on the side of the interstate. With the heavy traffic on the interstate, this scenario could have been catastrophic as there is currently construction and no place to pull over for emergencies. The vehicle was towed to Hubler Acura in Greenwood IN where they performed a diagnostic test and no known issues were found on their diagnostic computer. However, the issue is not happening on a computer at the dealer, the issue occurred on the interstate while traveling 70mph. I have read several message boards where the users have posted similar experiences about losing power when accelerating in their 2017 MDX. The dealerships seem to offer a transmission fluid change or a computer reset as a solution. I have previously had the same acceleration issue and had these two items already completed within the past 90 days and neither issue resolved the problem, which further led to the most recent interstate incident. From my online research, Honda is either unwilling or unable to diagnose this common transmission problem and they need to be held accountable for their inaction. This issue needs to be addressed before it creates a scenario with fatalities.
On March 20, 2022, I was on the freeway going 65 miles per hour in the fast lane and my transmission warning light came on and the car went in to Neutral and lost all power on the gas pedal and the car would not move. I could not put it in Park or it would roll backwards so I put on my hazard lights and kept my foot on the brake. I was almost rear ended several times as it was 9:30pm and no lights on the freeway in the area I was at and no place to get out and find a safe spot as my car would have rolled backwards as it would not come out of Neutral and at that spot in the freeway there is only cement walls. I was able to get the Calif. Highway Patrol to get me a tow company that could tow my car after I called 911. AAA which I have said it would be 90 minutes. I would have been killed before that. The tow truck driver had to tow my car to the Hopkins Acura dealership in Fairfield, CA where I had just had it serviced the Thursday and Friday before on March 17 and 18 for the car's 100,000 maintenance work. The Hopkins Acura said they test drove it after the maintenance work which cost me $3500.00 but my speedometer showed they only put 1.5 miles on my car so they did not test drive it far. The dealership said they do not touch the transmission during the big maintenance but this car was driving fine and for this transmission to just stop and freeze is so dangerous. The dealership says they will fix the transmission as they spoke to two different companies they work with but they want me to pay $600.00 of the repair which I do not think is fair.
On multiple occasions (6 times within a week) the powertrain loses power. While traveling 60 mph in 4 lane Interstate traffic engine loses all power and accelerator ceases to respond. Passengers were at risk due to no power. Acura Dealer has not been able reproduce. Some dealers have affirmed that they've had customers with the issue but can't reproduce. The issue seems to occur more frequently after cruise control has been dis-engaged. I have spoken with another a 2018 Acura owner directly and they have experienced the same issue. It does seem the engine/powertrain resolves when the transmission is switched from "Normal" to "Sport" mode. The amount of time with loss of power seems to span about 5-10 seconds.
Vehicle has ongoing rough transmission shifting issues. It jerks between gears when accelerating at stop signs or stop lights. I have also received a letter from attorney alleging ongoing transmission issues with this model - 2017 MDX. Car has only 23k miles. I used your website to search for possible recalls and did not see any. However, I wanted to share my experience to hopefully help others or perhaps hope of others reporting same mechanical issue.
Driving East on Interstate 20/59 10 miles East of Meridian, MS November 17, 2021 around 2:00 PM. A lot of trucks on the road. Had speed control set at 69 MPH. Came up behind a semi doing about 65, pulled over to the left lane to go around him. When I got about half way all of a sudden all hell breaks loose. Vehicle goes in into emergency stop with lights flashing all over the dash. Vehicle brakes to around 30 MPH within a couple of hundred feet with semi's and cars beside and behind me. Finally got the vehicle over to the side of the rode without and accident. (A miracle inself). Code DTC P0716. After about an hour of shutdown, started engine and all messages were gone. Took it to the Acura dealer and they, evidently, updated the TCM software. I had not been notified that it needed and update which is negligence on Acura. This incidence could have been a catastrophe with possible deaths. Now my wife is really afraid to drive this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2017 Acura MDX. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle started to jerk back and forth. The vehicle inadvertently shifted to neutral causing the loss of motive power. The contact exited the vehicle and pushed the vehicle to the side of the road. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Transmission goes into neutral on its own. Loses power. Delay in acceleration. Jerky gear shifting.
We were driving on the highway yesterday at 75 mph when suddenly our tachometer jumped a couple of times and then the car lost all power and switched into neutral. It's the same transmission problem others are reporting and dangerous.

I OWN A 2017 ACURA MDX. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP IT HESITATES FOR A SECOND OR TWO AND THEN JERKS WHEN IT FINDS ITS GEAR. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS USED. MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE OR SWITCHING LANES CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS.

AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE FROM ACURA IN MARCH 2020 WITH APPROXIMATELY 49,500 MILES AND NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS SLIPPING AROUND 20 TO 30 MILES PER HOUR. MY FIANCEE DROVE IT AS WELL AND FELT IT SLIPPING IN A CITY STOP AND GO UNDER THE SAME SPEED. WE CALLED ACURA TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SLIPPING AS WELL AS THE BATTERY MALFUNCTIONING. THEY TOLD US TO BRING IT IN AND WE DID. THE BATTERY END UP BEING DEAD A FEW WEEKS AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE. IT WAS CHANGED. WE THEN WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDS A TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE AND THAT THIS MAYBE CAUSES THE PROBLEM. WE NOTICED WITH THE VEHICLE RECORDS THE FLUID WAS CHANGED AT 42,376 MILES PRIOR. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID ENDED UP BEING CHANGED AND WE WERE TOLD THAT WE WOULD NEED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE A LOT FOR THE SLIPPING TO GO AWAY. THOUSANDS OF MILES LATER THE VEHICLE IS STILL SLIPPING WITH 53,000 MILES. WE FEEL ACURA KNOWS THE IS AN ISSUE BUT DOESN'T WANT TO FIX IT. WE NEED HELP. I'M NOT THE ONLY WON HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE WHEN IT INVOLVES SLIPPING. I HAVE A FEW DOCUMENTS SUPPORTING MY CASE ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THE CURRENT ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE.
Mileage: 51,231
VEHICLE LOST POWER UPON ACCELERATING AND I RECEIVED A MESSAGE TO PULL OVER WHEN SAFE TRANSMISSION ERROR; THIS HAPPENED AT A STOP AND SEEMS TO BE MORE LIKELY WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE OR WHILE ACCELERATING, I PULLED OVER AND ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE WITH OUT SUCCESS;
Mileage: 3,100
MULTIPLE SYSTEMS INDICATOR FAILURES WEN ON, PER ATTACHED PICTURES. THE TRANSMISSION WAS STUCK IN THE 1ST GEAR, THE VEHICLE WAS VIBRATING AND WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. THIS CREATED A DRIVING HAZARD, AS I WAS ON THE ROADWAY.
Mileage: 45,000
VEHICLE LOSES POWER UPON ACCELERATING AND HESITATES FOR A SECOND OR TWO - MOST TYPICALLY FROM A STOP AND SEEMS TO BE MORE LIKELY WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE WHILE ACCELERATING, ALTHOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF HIGHWAY. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT OR REPLICATE, BUT HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER OF 2017.
Mileage: 23,709
WE WERE DRIVING 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE I10 HEADED TO NEW ORLEANS WHEN OUR VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST ACCELERATION THE DASHBOARD LITE UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE TELLING ME TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY AND THEN ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE ERROR, TRANSMISSION ERROR AND AN EMISSIONS ERROR ALL AT ONCE. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS INCIDENT AND WE SOMEHOW MANAGED TO GET TO THE SMALL SIDE OF THE ROAD ON THIS BUSY INTERSTATE. IT SCARED THE BOTH US! THE MDX WOULD NOT GO INTO DRIVE OR NEUTRAL? WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK WE ALMOST WERE SIDE SWIPED. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED FOR THE SAFETY FEATURES AND IT HAS REALLY CAUSED MY WIFE AND I TO LOSE ALL FAITH AND NOW CANNOT DEPEND ON IT. OUR VEHICLE HAS 44K ON IT AND IT WAS EVEN A ACURA CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED INSPECTED VEHICLE. I HAVE LEARNED THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS SAME TYPE OF INCIDENT AND MODEL OF ACURA. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND ACURA BETTER OWN UP TO THIS FAULTY VEHICLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!
Mileage: 44,000
THE TRANSMISSION IN THE CAR DECELERATES UNEXPECTEDLY, THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, IT ALSO JERKS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS, ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, SWITCHING LANES AND SIMPLY DRIVING AND TRYING TO MANEUVER FROM A STOP. WE HAVE ALSO HAD A WARNING POP UP ON THE DASHBOARD TO IMMEDIATELY STOP THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET BECAUSE THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION, WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY DONT SEE THE SPECIFIC CODE AND TO JUST HAVE IT TOWED IN NEXT TIME. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR SAFETY, WE JUST HAD A BABY AND NOW I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR ON A DAILY BASIS, WHAT IF IT DOESNT ACCELATE WHEN NEEDED AND WE GET HIT! WE HAVE BROUGHT THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE UP MUTLIPLE TIMES; HOWEVER, ALL WE HAVE BEEN TOLD IS THAT THIS IS A NORMAL THING FOR THE ACURA MDX 2017 YEAR WE HAVE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL, IT IS EXTREMEMLY UNSAFE.
Mileage: 38,000
WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, I HAVE HAD AT LEAST 3 EPISODES OF DECELERATION WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE. I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 60 AND 75 MPH. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN I DECELERATE TO SLOW WITH TRAFFIC OR CHANGE LANES TO EXIT. WHEN I ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR (2017 MDX) CONTINUED TO DECELERATE RAPIDLY, FOR UP TO 5 SECONDS, PUTTING ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL AND HAD THE LKAS TURNED OFF. ADDITIONALLY, I WAS NOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO ANY OTHER CARE FOR THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM TO BE A FACTOR.
Mileage: 40,000
I WAS DRIVING 80MPH SOUTHBOUND ON 45 IN HOUSTON, TEXAS ON SUNDAY, MAY 26, 2019, DURING MEMORIAL DAY TRAFFIC. WITHOUT NOTICE, MY CAR BEGAN TO DING AND STATED TO 'STOP DRIVING'. IT ALSO SHOWED A TRANSMISSION ERROR AND PARKING BRAKE ERROR. IN ADDITION, THE CAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AUTOMATICALLY, DISABLED THE GAS PEDAL AND I WAS UNABLE TO REENGAGE DRIVE. AT THIS TIME, THE HIGHWAY I WAS ON WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION WITH CEMENT WALLS ON BOTH SIDES WITH NO SHOULDER. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND LEAVE THE HIGHWAY. ONCE OFF THE HIGHWAY, I RESTARTED MY CAR AND WAS STILL UNABLE TO PUT IT IN DRIVE.
Mileage: 18,880
NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN OCCURRING FREQUENTLY SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN OCTOBER 2017; THE DATE REQUIRED BELOW WAS A RANDOM DATE I CHOSE. WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY TO ENTER A HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES BEFORE DECIDING WHICH GEAR TO JUMP INTO. THIS ALSO OCCURS, TO A LESSER EXTENT, WHEN I HAVE TO STOMP ON THE GAS IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SINCE IT MAKES ME VULNERABLE TO AN ACCIDENT; WHEN I STOMP ON THE GAS PEDAL, I EXPECT TO GET ACCELERATION. I DON'T EXPECT THE CAR TO PAUSE IN ORDER TO DECIDE WHICH GEAR WOULD BE THE BEST TO JUMP INTO. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE COMPUTER WAS TRYING TO DECIDE WHICH GEAR WOULD BE THE MOST ECONOMICAL, FROM A GAS PERSPECTIVE, TO SHIFT INTO. THIS IS NOT FOR NORMAL ACCELERATION, BUT WHERE I NEED TO ACCELERATE VERY QUICKLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN OCTOBER 2017. WHEN I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT TO THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER, THEY SAID THIS WAS "NORMAL" AND NOTHING THEY COULD DO.
TRANSMISSION IS JERKY, CHOKING AND DOESN'T REACT FOR 3-4 SECONDS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY RESET A TRANSMISSION CODE WITHOUT REPLACING MY TRANSMISSION WITH A NEW ONE.
Mileage: 17,000
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 ACURA MDX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH ON A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE, BLIND SPOT, AND "STOP DRIVING" MESSAGES AND INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MAPLETON PALM BEACH ACURA (6870 OKEECHOBEE BLVD, WEST PALM BEACH, FL 33411), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE DEALER PERFORMED A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,649.
Mileage: 35,649
THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD AND ROUGH, SLIPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR AND ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS (BOTH BEING ON THE FREEWAY) THE TRANSMISSION GOT STUCK AND WOULD NOT RESPOND AT ALL AND I SAT IN THE CAR COASTING AS IF THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO ACURA 6 TIMES AND HAVE RECEIVED NO HELP AT ALL. I HAVE CONTACTED ACURA CORPORATE AND STILL RECEIVED NO HELP. I'M HIGHLY CONCERNED FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILIES SAFETY. THIS IS NOW MY DAILY DRIVER AND THE TRANSMISSION IS ONLY GETTING WORST OVER TIME. IN REGULAR CITY STREET DRIVING, BRAKING IS SCARY BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION ACCELERATES BEFORE IT SLOWS DOWN AND THE CAR SHIFTS DOWN SLOWLY SO BY THE TIME I ACTUALLY STOP THE CAR, THE CAR IS STILL SHIFTING DOWN. THE CAR JERKS WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS OR WHEN I BREAK TO STOP. I'M AFRAID AN ACCIDENT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IF I HAVE TO SLAM ON THE BREAKS TO AVOID A COLLISION BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION CAN'T DECIDE WHICH GEAR TO SHIFT INTO. ACCELERATION IS A BIG PROBLEM AS WELL. IF I'M AT A COMPLETE STOP AND PRESS THE GAS TO GO THE CAR LAGS AND THEN JOLTS INTO GEAR AND THEN JOLTS AGAIN INTO THE NEXT GEAR. I PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THIS CAR AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT AT ALL I'M TRULLY SCARED I'M GOING TO BE INJURED OR MAYBE WORST.
Mileage: 10,000
WHEN PULLING FORWARD FROM A STOP INTO A CAR WASH, THE ZF 9-SPEED TRANSMISSION DROPPED INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ALL ABILITY TO MOVE FORWARD. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH ILLUMINATED, INCLUDING STABILITY CONTROL, AIRBAGS, CHECK ENGINE, LANE DEPARTURE, AND FRONTAL COLLISION SYSTEM, AND THE DIGITAL DISPLAY FLASHED THROUGH EVERY COMPONENT ON THE CAR SAYING THERE WERE SYSTEM FAILURES IN THEM ALL. THE IMMEDIATE REMEDY WAS TO STOP, PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN RE-STARTED THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN, BUT ALL SYSTEM FAILURE LIGHTS AND WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH AND DIGITAL DISPLAY REMAINED ILLUMINATED.

WE HAVE EXPERIENCED MANY ISSUES WITH OUR 2017 MDX SH-AWD. ON A COLD START WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR THERE IS A SUDDEN LURCH HARD SHIFT. ONCE WARM THIS IS STILL PRESENT BUT NOT AS PRONOUNCED. THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SLIP THROUGH GEARS AND HAVE SUDDEN DOWNSHIFTS THAT DECELERATE THE CAR OR THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH FORWARD WITHOUT HAVING YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS AS IT SHIFTS ITSELF INTO A DIFFERENT GEAR. WHEN TRYING TO 'PUNCH IT' AND ACCELERATE QUICKLY IT WILL OFTEN HESITATE TO GO INTO THE CORRECT GEAR THEN SUDDENLY REV HIGH AS IT SPEEDS UP. HUNTING UP AND DOWN THROUGH GEARS WHILE STAYING AT A CONSTANT SPEED. THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY SLOW TO COME UP AND RESPOND TO INPUTS WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. ACURA HAS CLAIMED THIS IS DUE TO CELL PHONE BLUETOOTH INTERFERENCE. COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM HAS ENGAGED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME BY HUSBAND WAS IN A PARKINGLOT DRIVING THROUGH A ROW LOOKING FOR A SPOT TO PARK. THE CAR SLAMMED ON THE BREAKS WITH NO CARS IN HIS PATH AND NEARLY CAUSED THE CAR BEHIND HIM TO REAR END HIM. THE SECOND TIME I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT TO TURN RIGHT, THERE WAS A VEHICHLE IN FRONT OF ME BUT THE DISTANCE I WAS STOPING FROM THE REAR OF THAT VEHICHLE WAS NOT AN ABNORMAL OR ALARMING DISTANCE. THE BRAKES LOCKED UP WITH LIGHTS FLASHING ON THE DASH AND AN AWFUL GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM BENEATH THE CAR. ON ONE OCCASION FROM A PARKED POSITION IT WOULD NOT ALLOW US TO ENGAGE IT IN DRIVE. IT FLASHED "SHIFT TO PARK" ON THE DASH. IT TOOK THREE ATTEMPTS TO GET IT TO GO IN TO DRIVE. THE REAR HATCH HYDROLICS HAD TO BE REPLACED WITHIN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS AS THE POWER LIFTGATE STOPPED WORKING. ONE OF THE TWO KEY FOBS ALSO WENT OUT ON US IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS, REPLACING THE BATTERY DID NOTHING AND THE WHOLE FOB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION IN MY ACURA MDX SHIFTS VERY HARD GOING INTO FIRST AND SECOND GEAR WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND IN TWO SEPARATE CASES THE CAR DID NOT SHIFT INTO THIRD GEAR AND HALTED THE CAR AS I STEP ON THE GAS THE ENGINE ROARS BUT THE CAR DID NOT MOVE. ONCE IT FINALLY SHIFTED INTO GEAR THE CAR JOLTED FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED IN THE RAIN WHICH WAS EXTREMELY SCARY AND UNSAFE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TWO ACURA DEALERS TOTALING 4 VISITS TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND NO ONE BELIEVES THAT ANYTHING IS WRONG BECAUSE ACURA IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. A LOT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS ONLINE REVIEWS EXPLAIN THE SAME ISSUE I'M HAVING. I HAVE CONTACTED ACURA CORPORATE OFFICE AND WAS ASSURED WITHIN TWO BUSINESS DAYS A MANAGER WOULD CONTACT ME REGARDING THIS MATTER AND THAT WAS THREE WEEKS AGO AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM THEM. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR OR HAVING MY FAMILY IN THE CAR AT THIS POINT.

I BELIEVE THE 9-SPEED TRANSMISSION IN THE 2017 MDX PRESENTS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. ONE OF MY MAJOR CONCERNS IS THE SIGNIFICANT "LURCHING" I GET WHEN PARKING ON A SLOPE, SHIFTING TO "PARK" AND THEN TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. ON SNOW OR ICE, THE CAR COULD EASILY SLIDE SOME DISTANCE. I SIMILAR LURCHING ALSO FREQUENTLY OCCURS WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE WHEN ON A SLOPE AND THEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE. MY SECOND MAJOR CONCERN IS THAT WHEN I DOWNSHIFT ON A DOWN-SLOPE IN LIEU OF BRAKING, THE CAR ACTUALLY FIRST SPEEDS SIGNIFICANTLY UP AFTER DOWNSHIFTING AND DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AS IT SHOULD. I DO A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF DRIVING IN MOUNTAINS WHERE DOWN-SHIFTING IS SAFER THAN BRAKING AND THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. LASTLY, THE CAR HESITATES AT TIMES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AT LEAST TWICE AND AM TOLD THAT THESE ISSUES ARE JUST THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CAR.

ON FEBRUARY 23,2018, I PURCHASE A NEW 2017 ACURA MDX WITH TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE. THE VEHICLE HAD 378 MILES WHEN I PURCHASED IT. IT HAD NEVER BEEN TITLED AND WAS SOLD AS A NEW VEHICLE. UPON TAKING DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A FLAT PAVED, CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES POOR ACCELERATION WHEN TAKING OFF. I AM PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DOWN REALLY HARD, YET THE VEHICLE IS MOVING VERY SLOWLY--NOT EQUAL TO THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE I AM APPLYING TO THE GAS PEDAL. THE ACCELERATION IS VERY POOR, ESPECIALLY WHEN PULLING OFF FROM A STOPPED POSITION. WHEN I AM GOING DOWNHILL ON A PAVED CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES EVEN WHEN NO GAS IS APPLIED. EXPERIENCING ROUGH SHIFTING, ESPECIALLY IN LOW GEARS ON ALL PAVED ROADS. DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY DUE TO EXTREMELY SLOW ACCELERATION. SOMETIMES WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO STOP, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES. WHEN I TRY TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AGAINST ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. ALL DRIVING TAKES PLACES ON CITY STREETS, HIGHWAYS AND PAVED ROADWAYS. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE FROM A PARKED POSITION. I RECEIVED AN ERROR CODE SAYING 'TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, PULL OVER WHEN SAFE." THE POOR ACCELERATION PROBLEM IS WORSE WHEN I ENABLE THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND LANE KEEPING ASSIST FEATURES. I HAVE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. EACH TIME THEY TELL ME THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THEY EVEN SAID THAT I NEED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE MORE SO THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL LEARN MY DRIVING PATTERNS AND MAKE THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS.
Mileage: 378
THE VAN STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND STARTED JERKING. THE GEARS WERE NOT SHIFTING WELL AND GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE P0730. IT WAS VERY UNSAFE AND WE WERE LUCKY NOT TO HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON FREEWAY. HUGE SAFETY ISSUE .

WE OWN A 2017 ACURA MDX, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE SUV ATTEMPTING TO PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE BRIEFLY ACCELERATED. I WAS DRIVING THE SUV AT LOW SPEED WHEN IT BRIEFLY ACCELERATED, I WAS KIND OF STUNNED, AND ASKED DID YOU FEEL THAT, SHE SAID YES, AND THEN STATED I GUESS I WASN'T IMAGING IT WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME, THESE WERE SEPARATE ISSUES AT DIFFERENT TIMES AND DATES. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE AND THIS ISSUE WAS MENTIONED, THE SERVICE WRITER EXPLAINED THAT ACURA IS AWARE OF THIS AND IT'S AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE AND ACURA HAS NO FIX, IT WAS ASKED WHY ACURA HASN'T WARNED OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM AND THE SERVICE WRITER EXPLAINED IT'S A INTERMITTENT ISSUE THAT HASN'T BEEN REPLICATED IN SERVICE AND DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ALL THE VEHICLES. WE ASKED DOESN'T SOMEONE THINK IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE, THAT WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN LACONIA NH BIKE WEEK IT COULD HAVE ACCELERATED INTO A MOTORCYCLE OR PEDESTRIAN. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE OTHER THAN PLEASE RATE US GOOD ON THE SERVICE CALL WHAT WE DID NOT WHAT ACURA ISN'T DOING?????????
