The low beam headlights on my 2015 Acura RDX have become dangerously dim, to the point where nighttime driving is unsafe. The issue is not related to the bulbs. I replaced the bulbs with new, higher output units, but the light output did not improve. The problem appears to be caused by deterioration of the internal reflector bowls inside the projector housing. The reflective coating has degraded, resulting in extremely poor forward illumination and very limited projection distance

Jan 9, 2026

Low beam headlights are so dim it is very difficult to see at night.

Dec 23, 2025

The low beam headlights are dangerously low. Even after you replace the bulbs, the lights remain dim. The reflective coating in the assembly has degraded to the point where almost no light is visible while driving. I read where a recall was made for RDXs made during a specific timeframe in 2014, but mine was not one of them. I have ~97k miles on the 2015 RDX.

Dec 20, 2025

015RDX owner reported low-beam headlights are incredibly dim, making night driving unsafe. The outer surface of the headlight is not hazy and I suspect that it’s the the inner reflective coating (aluminum film) of the headlight assembly that has degraded substantially if not entirely. Acura/Honda must begin a recall for RDXs sold in 2015 and perhaps earlier. Acura/honda did recall RlX headlight assembly for the same reason

Dec 11, 2025

The headlights on my car are very dim, impeding my ability to see the road at night. I sometimes resort to using my high beams when there is no oncoming traffic. I am afraid I will not see an obstacle in the road. I noticed this problem several years ago and told the service department at the dealership about it. They suggested that they clean a film off of the headlights, which they did and it temporarily brighten the lights. Over time the lights returned to their normal dimness. I also had a blown bulb replaced in the headlight and mentioned to the mechanic about my dim lights. After looking at the vehicle he said the entire pair of headlight assemblies would have to be replaced to adequately fix the problem. No warning lights in the car signified this problem, but it was obvious that the headlights were dim while driving at night.

Nov 18, 2025

I have not had an accident. The headlights on the vehicle are extremely dim. I drive with my bright lights on and they still are not very bright. I have changed the headlights out 3x since I bought the vehicle, in may 2025. They have been balanced by a repair shop owner and changed. I can not see more than 10ft ahead of me. I’m scared I will get into an accident is how dim they are. I read it has to do with the fillet or something on the inside of the headlight assembly and to buy new assembly is only wat to improve. Assembly’s cost $300 or more for just one side. This is a manufacture malfunction.

Oct 19, 2025

Gradually the low beam headlights on my 2015 Acura RDX became ineffective despite replacing the bulbs many times and cleaning the housings. I've taken the car to three different mechanics and none have been able to fix the problem. I can no longer drive at night with these headlights and will have replace the housings at significant cost. This seems like a manufacturer defect that should be recalled and replaced at their expense.

Oct 18, 2025

Low beam headlights became very dim, making it unsafe to drive at night. Only solution was to replace entire headlight housings, costing $2,285 (would have been $4,000 if purchased original vs aftermarket housings)

Oct 15, 2025

Headlights have become very dim, to the point where it is dangerous to drive at night and high beams need to be used for most of my nighttime driving. Exterior of the headlights have been cleaned, but the issue is with the lights themselves. It is a hazard, as I cannot see properly at night while driving. This has been a problem for at least one year.

Oct 3, 2025

My 2015 Acura RDX has such dim headlights, that I feel that it is not safe to drive at night. The headlights have gotten so dim that I can't even tell if they are on, unless I drive by a building and see the lights in the reflection. The only way I can drive safely is to have my high beam headlights on, which is not safe for other drivers. Not to mention illegal in most areas. As I understand it, the 2015 Acura RLX has had recalls for a very similar headlight issue. Why hasn't this recall been extended to the 2015 RDX, which appears to be built off the same platform, and is having the same issue?

Oct 2, 2025

Can’t see to drive at night with low beams on. Miss turns at night.

Aug 22, 2025

The headlights on the vehicle are VERY dim, so much so that driving at night is really not safe. At any point I have a passenger in my car while dark, they always ask if I have my lights on. On roadways at night, I have to either ride behind someone else to have the road lit in front of me OR illegally drive with the high beams on. This has been an ongoing issue for a few years but I only realized recently what a real safety hazard this is when others have brought it to my attention. I have read quite a few posts that others are also having similar issues with the 2013-2015 RDX base model (the 2014-2015 Acura RLX vehicles were recalled due to the potential delamination of reflective film inside the headlights and I suspect this is a similar issue).

Aug 19, 2025

Purchased car with ~96k miles. Drove at night and had extremely low road visibility due to lighting. Replaced the bulbs to a high lumen LED, did not increase lighting/visibility. My research finds this to be a known issue with a refractor found behind the headlight lens within the headlamp housing.

Aug 12, 2025

At night when I turn on my headlights, they turn on, however they do not reflect properly causing severe dimming and inability to see farther than 1-2 feet in front while I am driving. This is a severe safety hazard. Changing the bulbs regardless of halogen or LED does not improve. Many forums have this issue and it is too unsafe to drive at night putting myself, my passengers, and people on the street at risk. Mechanic confirms the issue.

Jul 29, 2025

The headlights on this vehicle are terrible. Have to drive with brights on at night or cannot see. I replaced with better bulbs but no improvement. I have been told this is a common problem on these vehicles and the only fix is to replace the complete headlight assembly. I was told by dealership this was approximately a $3000 job.

Jul 28, 2025

The headlights on this vehicle are very dim and it is dangerous to drive at night. I require my daughter to drive with the high beams on since the low beam lights are hardly functional. I've had the lights replaced at a cost of $500. This did not help the situation. The lights have failed inspection and I'm faced with having to replace the lights again for an additional $500 just to pass inspection. This fix will not resolve the issue. From what i've been able to research online, this is not an isolated situation with 2015 Acura RDX vehicles. It appears to be a result of a defect in the entire headlight assembly part, which is a significant cost to repair. I'm concerned for the safety of my daughter having to drive this vehicle and the safety of other drivers due to her needing to use her high beams more often than typically required. I contacted Acura USA and was told there were no recalls and that i needed to manage repairs through the dealership. This is an obvious safety issue that Acura should resolve.

Jul 10, 2025

Low beam daily headlights do not illuminate properly forcing you to use high beams constantly because you can't see the road at night. Dangerous for driver of vehicle and major hazard for cars you pass because you are using your high beam headlights all the time.

Jun 21, 2025

The low-beam reflector itself oxidizes, is not reflective at all, and no amount of brighter bulbs or clean outside lenses will help with a reflector that doesn’t reflect. (It’s also not related to the cloudy inner-lens. It’s the reflector.) Replacing the entire headlight assembly is the only solution which is about 1,000.00 many people are complaing of this. This should be a recall from Acura. On this model car, the low beams get so dangerously dim, that (my case for example), I literally could not tell if the low beam headlights were on or off if I were driving on a street where any street lights (even just residential neighborhood street lights) were anywhere within eyesight. The only time I could make out that they were on would be if I were on a pitch black section of a street, in which case I could see a very faint glow that only extended maybe four-feet out.

Jun 19, 2025

Very low light output from low beams, I have researched others, here is the same situation I have The low-beam reflector itself oxidizes, is not reflective at all, and no amount of brighter bulbs or clean outside lenses will help with a reflector that doesn’t reflect. (It’s also not related to the cloudy inner-lens. It’s the reflector.) Replacing the entire headlight assembly seems to be the only solution ($300-450 for the lights and 2-3 hours of labor) People who mean well and arent familiar with the specifics of the Acura RDX 2013 to 2015 problem will give you conventional advice (clean the outside lenses and buy the brand bulbs they like), but they are incorrect. There is a widespread and extreme problem and defect with this specific generation of the Acura RDX. On my car the low beams are so dangerously dim, that (my case for example), I literally could not tell if the low beam headlights were on or off if I were driving on a street where any street lights (even just residential neighborhood street lights) were anywhere within eyesight. The only time I could make out that they were on would be if I were on a pitch black section of a street, in which case I could see a very faint glow that only extended maybe four-feet out. And when I parked facing the garage door at night, just about three feet from the garage door, both the running lights and the flashers were far (not just a little) brighter than the low beams.

Jun 18, 2025

Both headlight are dim, even change the headlight bulbs still dim. Night time driver can't see well is very danger!

Jun 16, 2025

Reflective film backing material inside both headlights has delaminated to the point where it's too dim to drive safely at night.

Jun 7, 2025

I recently purchased this vehicle used, and just drove it at night for the first time. The low-beam headlights are extremely dim, to the point that it was difficult to tell if they were even turned on. This made it very difficult to drive in the dark, and I nearly went off the road as a result. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer, service center, or other party, but I did confirm that the headlights were operating, but remained dangerously dim. No warning lights or messages came on to indicate any sort of problem.

May 7, 2025

The contact's owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated that the front headlights had become dim, which made it difficult and unsafe to operate the vehicle while driving at night. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was notified of NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V792000 (Exterior Lighting); however, the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

Apr 10, 2025

Left headlight low beam has become progressively more dim over time and although it appears functional, it's not actually lighting the roadway. Have replaced bulbs and cleaned/buffed headlight assembly with no improvement. Had entire headlight assembly replaced with used headlamp assembly and replaced bulbs, but no improvement. 2014 RDX head lamps have been recalled for the same reason. Driving at night is difficult and dangerous.

Apr 2, 2025

After purchasing this used vehicle from a dealership we began driving home and it got dark. It was then we noticed the headlights on the vehicle are significantly dimmer than other vehicles. I was driving in front of them and noticed this once we got out of the city and onto the freeway. Once we got home I confirmed with the person driving the vehicle that in the dark and rain it was very difficult to see and they felt unsafe. I checked to ensure the lights were turned on properly, which they were. I was hoping that replacing the bulbs would fix the issue but when I went to research this I discovered that many people online experienced the same issue and that replacing the bulbs would not fix the issue. I confirmed in the paperwork and online that the vehicle was up to dates on recall work but that this known issue was not part of any as of yet. I would like to ask that this safety issue be resolved via recall as until doing so I will not be driving in the rain or night as we believe it a potential safety hazard and likely to cause accident or injury to someone.

Mar 24, 2025

The reflective material inside the headlight fixtures in this vehicle have degraded so severely the low beams don't illuminate the road well enough to drive it at night. This is a manufacturer defect that has been confirmed by the Acura dealership we took it to for repair. They told us the cost to replace both fixtures is ~$2,500, which we could not afford. This is a huge safety issue, one that prevents us from driving it at night unless absolutely necessary, in which case we have to use the high beams. The 2014 Acura RDX was recalled for this defect and I frankly don't understand why the 2015s haven't -- it's exactly the same issue. We contacted our auto insurance company about submitting a claim, but they do not cover manufacturer defects. Reaching out to the NHTSA for any assistance or advice you can provide.

Feb 16, 2025

Low beam head lights get increasingly dim while driving despite changing the bulbs multiple times. The headlights caused the lens to get a film which I removed with a lens restoration kit just for the lens to get back the same way within days. The bulbs are getting entirely too hot. Despite the lens the bulbs are so dim on a road without street lights or another cars headlights you CAN NOT SEE ANYTHING. you might as well be driving with your lights off entirely. The fact is it’s dangerous and not safe to drive because of. No lights or warnings have appeared alerting me of any mechanical issues.

Feb 14, 2025

I recently bought this vehicle used with a current safety inspection. All fine till I drove it for the first time at night. The low beams put out very little light. I thought perhaps they were not on the road was so dark. The high beams worked fine. The lens are clear. Both low beams bulbs are illuminated . I have read that multiple owners have reported this problem. The problem is not solved by replacing the bulbs but only solved by replacing the whole headlight assembly. A very expensive repair. This car as is is not safe to drive at night unless I keep the high beams on. I suspect a defect in the reflectors inside the unit

Feb 6, 2025

Have tried changing the bulbs and cleaning the outside exterior bulbs to see if the lights shine brighter cannot drive safely at night because the lights are dim regardless seems to be an ongoing issue for multiple Acura owners have to drive illegally using high beams versus low beams

Jan 19, 2025

The headlights have dimmed so much that I can’t even drive the car at night. We spent $80 to replace the bulbs and that didn’t help. The headlights are extremely unsafe.

Jan 7, 2025

I purchased a 2015 Acura RDX used for my kids to drive. A year after owning it, I noticed the headlight output was poor. Things came to a head when my 16 year old son came home and told me he felt unsafe driving. The car currently has 120,000 miles on it. I tried multiple headlight restoration kits and several replacement bulbs but nothing helped. After digging deep into various forums, I learned the root cause is the deterioration of the reflective material inside of the headlight housing. I called multiple locations to determine the cost to have them replaced and learned it would be around $3,000. I then called Honda for assistance and was informed they would not offer any. I was ultimately forced to purchase and replace the units myself. I have never experienced this in my life and after owning 20+ cars believe this should have been a recall paid for by Honda.

Jan 7, 2025

Headlights are so dim, it is dangerous to drive in the dark. The only solution is to purchase new headlight assemblies. $1,000+. This is a known problem amongst owners of the same vehicle. Driving with the dim lights is equally as dangerous as driving without lights on.

Dec 16, 2024

The headlamp assemblies literally failed from the inside. The headlamp light output decreased dramatically as time went on. I read online that many Acura owners were having the same issue and that replacing the bulbs did nothing to remedy the issue as the reflective coating inside the headlamp was failing; only fix is to replace complete assemblies, which I did. I do not have the removed assemblies for inspection. The dealer admitted a problem with Acura headlamps but stated it "was not an issue significant enough for a recall." No inspections by insurance, police. No warning lamps or messages. Assemblies were replaced Feb. 2021 with noted dimming starting about 1 year prior.

Dec 10, 2024

The inner headlight lens are defective, and have progressively gotten worse year after year. I’m Unable to see at night due to poor lighting because of the haze covering the lens over the bulb. Research shows there are numerous complaints about this model/year car.

Dec 9, 2024

The low-beam headlight system has deteriorated, and the reflective component makes the low beams unusable at night. This component poses a safety hazard. The dim headlights make nighttime driving extremely hazardous, forcing me to rely on high beams, creating visibility risks for other drivers. Reduced visibility has endangered my safety and the safety of others, particularly on unlit or busy roads where clear vision is essential. The Acura dealership has confirmed the issue. Their only solution is replacing each headlight assembly, which would cost over $2,000. Low Beam Bulbs have been replaced multiple times with different brands, but the issue remains. The headlighting dimming issue can not be remedied by replacing the low beam bulbs; the real issue is the reflective film issue. This issue is a serious safety concern, and it is disappointing that Honda/Acura is not willing to fix this component. There were no warning lamps or error messages to indicate the dimming issue. This issue persists, with no alternative solution except the expensive complete assembly replacement advised by Acura.

Nov 22, 2024

The low beams on this vehicle have been consistently getting worse even with cleaning of the outside components and changing the bulbs. This makes it dangerous for night driving.

Nov 21, 2024

Over the past several years, the headlights have dimmed to the point where it is difficult to see. We have tried changing bulbs several times to no avail. In searching the internet, this is a known issue. The only remedy is to purchase and install new headlight assemblies as the original equipment goes bad.

Nov 20, 2024

The reflector in the headlight assembly failed and the headlights are so dim it's unsafe to drive after dark.

Nov 20, 2024

Headlights are too dim for safe driving. I have replacement bulbs and the housing. Honda estimate for repair for a condition that is the result of using manufacturing materials (as I understand it) that degrade over time and lead to dimming is cost prohibitive.

Nov 13, 2024

The low front light is so dim that we need to turn on the high light to see at night. Having to use high lights also creates a glare problem for other motorists, but we need the high light as the low light is so dim that it creates a safety hazard for driving at night in urban areas with low lights. We changed the front low halogen bulb lights for LED lights but it was not enough. People suggest to change the front light house or case, but the problem persist as the reflective materials inside the OEM case becomes defective after using the lights for some time.

Nov 12, 2024

Headlights have been too dim to see at night for many years - I was pulled over by a police office because of this. I want to sell my vehicle but cannot in my right mind do this until there has been a recall to fix the situation that will not cost me a ton of money.

Nov 7, 2024

The front headlights on this car are dangerously dim. We have replaced bulbs, cleaned lenses, but the lights eventually dim. Night driving is treacherous because we have to use high beams constantly which don't light the road immediately in front of the car. The dimming has been going on for the past 5-7 years, and it is a design flaw of this car. Acura is not offering any sort of recall/replacement for the housing to fix this issue. We are getting estimates of $2000+ from local repair shops to replace the housings. This is a safety issue that Acura should address for all affected models and I would urge the NHTSA to investigate.

Nov 5, 2024

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The low-beam headlight system has failed due to severe, progressive dimming that has rendered it nearly unusable at night. This component poses a clear safety hazard and is available for immediate inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The dim headlights make nighttime driving extremely hazardous, forcing me to rely on high beams, which in turn creates visibility risks for other drivers. Reduced visibility has endangered my safety and the safety of others, particularly on unlit or busy roads where clear vision is essential. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the issue has been confirmed by the Acura dealership on two separate occasions. Each time, they recommended a $2,000 repair due to the need to replace the entire headlight assemblies, as the dimming is related to a reflective film issue that cannot be fixed by merely replacing the bulb. This problem is persistent and has been professionally diagnosed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Yes, the vehicle has been inspected by both the Acura dealership and a third-party service provider, Midas. The issue has been clearly documented by both parties, and the recommended solution has been consistent: full replacement of both headlight assemblies due to the reflective film defect. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning lamps or error messages to indicate the dimming issue. However, I began noticing the brightness gradually worsening over the past few years, forcing me to rely on high beams at night. This problem is ongoing, with no alternative solution other than the costly full assembly replacement recommended by Acura.

Nov 4, 2024

The Low Beam Lights are extremely Dim, Had to drive with Hight Beam ON all the time, which would make it dangerous for the on comers, During rain or fog, high beam should not be used and Low beam is of no help at all, its a prevalent with 2015 RDX base model at least, Apparently Honda does not want to care about that.

Nov 1, 2024

I’ve owned this car since it was new-have had almost all service work performed by local Acura dealership (Gary Force Acura). Some weeks ago, I noticed I was having difficulty seeing in front of my car when driving at night. I replaced a headlight bulb but it did not help at all. The only way I could see to drive at night was with my bright lights on. I contacted a local Acura repair shop and they indicated there is a manufacturing problem with the 2015 Acura RDX-the reflective material in the low beam headlights delaminates and reflect la minimal light forward, meaning there is very little light to illuminate what is in front of me at night. This meant my only two options to operate my car at night were to risk being unable to see what was in front of me since there was minimal lights going forward on low beams, or to drive with my high beams on at night blinding oncoming traffic. Neither option is acceptable. This known manufacturing defect is not being corrected if the vehicle is outside of its warranty. I contacted my Acura dealer and spoke with Casey in the service department who told me they weren’t offering any assistance and that it would cost me approximately $3,000 to fix this known manufacturing defect. I instead went to the local Acura repair shop where I had to spend slightly more than $1,800 so my car would be operable at night-there were no other alternatives. This is a known problem with Acura headlights-there is a recall for this issue with a similar model in this model year. See: [XXX] There are also numerous posts on various car sites and Reddit with this known problem. I should not have had to pay to fix this-Acura should have made these repairs because they know it’s a manufacturing defect they’re failing to correct. Oct 24, 2024

The headlights have gone very dim do to the reflective coating degrading in the headlight housing. This makes the vehicle unsafe to drive at night.

Oct 10, 2024

The headlights on my 2015 Acura RDX have degraded so much that it is difficult to get proper visibility at night, and therefore, dangerous to drive at dark. The safety of myself and my passengers, as well as other drivers on the road, is at risk. New bulbs were installed within the last year, so it certainly isn't a bulb issue. The dealer has confirmed the issue of the housing/reflection degrading, but there is no safety recall for this issue.

Oct 4, 2024

The low beam headlights are so dim and weak it is unsafe to drive. I have read where Acura rdx years 2012-2015 have a lot of reports of this problem. I understand Honda has recalled another style of Acura in same time years but not acknowledged this. I have used brand name headlight restoration kit and paid to replace the headlight bulbs(low beam) but there is no improvment This is very unsafe and Honda needs to replace/repair the headlights.

Oct 2, 2024

I purchased my 2015 Acura RDX in October of 202o. At about 90K miles, two years later, the Low-Beam headlights started getting dimmer and it is now 4 years into owning the vehicle and literally impossible to see at night. It is not the lens clouding over, nor is it the bulbs which have been replaced a couple times now. Looking online I see that there is a problem with the reflective coating on the inside of the headlight assembly, as it deteriorates it makes the headlights dim at night. This needs to be recalled by ACURA and is definitely a safety hazard! I've already almost been in two accidents because of this. Leaving high beams on at night is the only option which poses another hazard to oncoming traffic.

Sep 30, 2024

Headlights are dim making driving unsafe after sunset. Even after replacing the bulb with OEM bulbs the headlight housing the fixture remains very dim forcing the driver to use high beams at after sunset.

Sep 21, 2024

We purchased the vehicle used showing 102,445 Miles on 5/24/24 and did not drive it at night until a few days ago. At that time we noticed the low bean projector headlights were bearly visible. Upon further research we found that this is a common safety defect on virtually all RDX models from 2006 on using Halogen Projector lighting & relates to bad reflector design. Upon contacting Acura / Honda by phone, they said at first there was no recall & the defective reflector did not exist on my vehicle. Two thing amaze me. One he obviously lied and two, this defect is well know, broadly exists on not just Honda products but other manufacturers as well and the NHTSA has not addressed it. I ordered new light assemblies that I will install myself, but there are countless retrofit methods highlighted on You Tube for something that should have created a massive recall campaign by the NHTSA BTW ! If an owner has the lights relaced by a dealer, the cost runs about $2300 ! I have owned and maintained over 60 vehicles, foreign & domestic in my 80 years. The last time I had some this this aggregious was structural suspension corrosion on a 1970 Fiat that could have killed me. I was part of the campaign that lead to a buyback.

Sep 18, 2024

In 2020 my RDX headlights seemed to be losing it's ability to illuminate the roadway. It continued to become worse until today, it has become so dim that it does not provide the illumination required to be street legal. No matter what I did, replacing the headlamp bulbs to polishing the oxidation from the lens, the illumination become better. I finally was told by a Acura dealership that the problem is with the silver reflective surface behind the bulb becoming oxidized and pealing off. The only way to solve the problem is to replace both headlamps. The cost is close to $1000. This failure in safety equipment less than 5 years after manufacture should be investigated.

Sep 14, 2024

My 2015 Acura RDX headlights are so dim that I can barely see the road ahead of me. Also, when using the low beams only, cars are flashing at me thinking I don't have my headlights on. I always use the "auto" setting on the headlight control pendant. Then I'm forced to drive with my brights on which causes other cars to flash their brights at me and may be presenting a safety issue for them to see with my brights glaring. I called the dealer and they quoted >$2000 to replace them. I understand there was a recall for faulty headlight reflective film for select vehicles made in 2014-2015 but for some reason my VIN does not qualify for the recall. I believe they were mistaken when they indicated they resolved the problem as my vehicle has the same problem the recall intended to resolve.

Sep 7, 2024

While overall pleased with vehicle, the low beams simply seem not visible enough to light the road properly. I believe this is a safety hazard and hearing how many other owners of the same make and model report this I believe the government to investigate this problem. Thank you.

Aug 21, 2024

The low beams on my 2015 Acura RDX are very dim and have gotten progressively worse over the last two years. Visibility at night is extremely poor and dangerous. I do not drive much at night, except locally. I did not think there was an issue with my car since the LED lights on newer cars are so very bright in comparison. I realized it was major issue very recently (August 2024) when I could not see more than one car length in front of me on a major highway with construction zones. I could not tell if my low beams were on or not. My high beams functioned properly and that was the safest way for me to continue driving. There have been no previous warning messages. On June 19, 2024, I had other repair work performed at an Acura dealership and received a multi-point inspection report of which I received a green light status for my headlights. I am currently at over 103,000 miles. I estimate the issue began at around 90,000 miles. I have not reported this to the Acura dealer. However, my local mechanic confirmed the issue exists. After some investigation, I found that this is a common problem with this model car and year. The quoted cost to repair this issue from two different Acura dealerships is quite expensive, ranging from $2300 to $2500, to replace both headlight assemblies. This should not be my issue to pay for; it should be a recall at Acura's expense.

Aug 8, 2024

My 21 year old daughter is driving a 2015 RDX we just purchased a few months ago. The headlights are terrible! They are so dim and it’s extremely dangerous. Acura should have a recall on this

Aug 2, 2024

The low beam headlights have gotten very dim over the 6 years I have owned the car, to the point that it is hazardous to drive at night due to very poor visibility. The Honda dealership found no issues and only replaced the bulbs, which did not fix the problem. There are numerous online reports of exactly the same issue with the same model year of this vehicle. I don't understand why Acura does not acknowledge this issue with a recall, or why NHTSA does not consider this a well-documented and dangerous defect.

Jul 29, 2024

The headlight assembly oxidizes after about 8 years of use. Dealer solution is to replace both headlights for about $2,400.

Jul 14, 2024

The dim lights prevent clear visibility when driving. I inquired with my local Acura dealership about a solution. I was told that dim headlights on this model are a known issue. They stated that it relates back to the reflectivity inside the the light assembly and the only solution would be to replace the entire assembly on both sides. The only effective remedy I have found to see at night is to keep the bright lights on, which is a safety issue for other drivers. Replacement bulbs will not correct the visibility due to the issue with the reflectivity. This has caused multiple safety concerns at night, nearly causing multiple accidents due to not being able to see clearly.

Jul 12, 2024

Low beam headlights have become so dim that they are unsafe at night and provide insufficient lighting. Bulbs have been replaced but am now told by the dealership this is a potential defect with this model where the reflective housing deteriorates and requires a full replacement of the headlight assembly.

Jul 8, 2024

The headlights on this vehicle are completely inadequate for driving at night. I believe this is a manufacturing defect, as the only solution is to replace the entire headlamp assemblies. The vehicle is equipped with HID headlamps. The bulbs work, but no light is projected from the lamps.

Jun 22, 2024

I have been noticing over the past few months that my visibility is diminished at night and have to turn my bright lights on even when there are overhead lights. While stopped at light, I noticed the headlights of the car next to me projected out substantially farther than mine. Yesterday I took my car to the dealer to presumably replace the headlight bulbs. But I learned that the bulbs are fine, and the wiring is fine. The problem is that the lens covering the light bulbs has darkened so badly that very little light can escape to project out onto the street in front of me. I was told that the whole lens assembly is a sealed unit and must be replaced on the right and left side. They showed me the darkened lens cover that blocks the light. I regard this as a safety hazard. I could miss a kid riding a bicycle at night. I was not aware that this is a common problem with 2015 Acura RDXs. This is absolutely dangerous to me, my passengers and the public. I have an estimate from the dealer of $2,537.85 to replace the headlight assemblies. I feel this is a significant safety issue.

Jun 18, 2024

Headlights are extremely dim and concerning to drive at night. I have seen several reports about this being an issue on RDX models (2015) but no recall. I am requesting Acura to recall this defect, or at least consider reimbursing me for the repair, which has been quoted at $1800. Please advise. Thank you, [XXX] [XXX]

The headlights on my car have dimmed substantially in the last couple of years, to the point I don't feel comfortable driving at night or in unclear conditions. When I do drive at night I am forced to put my hi-beams on to see in front of me. Oncoming cars will flash their lights at me trying to tell me I don't have my headlights on when I do. I have asked Acura about but they say there is nothing that can be done. This is very disappointing and will make me question ever buying another Acura in the future. I can't, in good conscience, pass this car on to my child.

Jun 9, 2024

Headlight low beams have gradually became so dim that the car is unsafe to drive at night or in adverse weather conditions. The bulbs were replaced at an Honda dealership despite the dealership technicians stating there was nothing wrong with the existing bulbs' lumination. The new bulbs did not improve visibility and the headlights are getting worse. The last time the car was driven at night, the lights were so dim that I had to use the light from passing cars on the highway to make it home. This is extremely dangerous for the driver and passengers and other people on the road. It seems the headlight housings will need to be fully replaced to make the car drivable.

Jun 8, 2024

Headlights a very dim when on. This was not an issue at first but has become noticeable as I’ve driven it more. It is almost impossible to drive at night on a non-city road unless it is empty enough that I can use my brights instead. Very dangerous. If you look online, many people have had this same issue and it’s a known problem with this car. Acura should replace these headlights for these cars

Jun 7, 2024

The headlights were getting dimmer and dimmer after a few years and they are so dim now it’s not even safe to drive at night in low beam. I tried to clean the glass many times but the cause in fact is the reflector. I was advised to change the housing which could cost up to $1k for parts and labor

Jun 5, 2024

Low beam headlights on my 2015 Acura RDX are extremely dim, despite the bulbs being replaced within the past few years. It is absolutely dangerous to be driving at night with the low beams on; I'm fearful that others may not see me coming or I may not see obstacles ahead, potentially leading to major injury or death to me and others. It is ridiculous that they hasn't been a recall yet for these.

This vehicle was purchased used on 5-25-24 from Carvana. The vehicle was delivered during the daytime. The vehicle was also inspected by the dealer prior to purchase. After purchase the vehicle was driven at night. However, after driving in the dark, at night, it was also discovered that the headlights did not provide adequate light to see whether on the highway or side streets. On dimly lit roads it appeared as if the headlights weren't even turned on. Upon further research, we learned that there is a problem with Acura RDX 2015 models in which the headlamps become dimmer over time due to the reflector malfunction and eventually emit no light and as a result cannot be driven at night. Since this is a 9 year old car, the headlamps are very dim because the reflector is failing and will either need to be replaced due to the defect or the car cannot be driven at night unless the high beams are used, which is also unsafe to other drivers. The bottom line is that driving the car at night with very dim headlights is a serious safety issue that must be addressed by Acura to ensure no one gets in an accident or is injured as the result of not being able to see properly while driving at night. 2015 Acura RDX Headlights have dramatically dimmed over time, to the point of jeopardizing safety of self, passengers and others: it's not discernible they're on unless there's no external lighting/street lamps. Problem potentially confirmed via excess reporting online for a range of RDX years inclusive of 2015. Also seeing a relevant, potentially related headlight recall from late 2014. After further research into this issue I learned that the low-beam reflector itself oxidizes, is not reflective at all, and no amount of brighter bulbs or clean outside lenses will help with a reflector that doesn’t reflect. This has be corrected immediately!

May 15, 2024

Low beams do not work, they are deficient, cannot see in the dark, dangerous

May 14, 2024

The headlights of my 2015 Acura RDX have degraded to the point where driving at night is near impossible, but definitely dangerous. The bulbs are relatively new, but the light output only extends a few feet in front of the car. This deterioration has been identified by the dealer as a known issue, but is requiring a substantial replacement cost. The issue is not due to driver negligence. One can find many similar instances of this issue when searching the internet. There are no indicators, warning messages, etc., as the lights are still functional.

May 6, 2024

Acura RDX vehicles’ headlights anre extremely dim, to the point where we cannot see the road and where drivers have even described the vehicles as “undrivable” at nighttime.

May 4, 2024

Headlights are incredibly dim and unsafe. I’ve now almost been in two accidents at night. My passengers always comment turn on your lights and I have to say they are already on.

May 1, 2024

Headlights are very dim. Seems like a well known problem, with recalls to other models. Very expensive to fix correctly.

Apr 24, 2024

Low-beam headlights are dangerously dim, almost unusable at night. Replaced bulbs, no difference in light output. Dealer has confirmed issue. Obviously a safety issue, if the road can't be lighted, potential for crashes. No signal/notification in cab, as the headlights work.

Apr 22, 2024

RECALL ON MANY 201-2015 RDX BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS BECAME DANGEROUSLY DIM AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SAME THING HAPPENED TO MINE, HAD IT CHECKED BY THE DEALER TODAY WHO CONFIRMED. HOWEVER, THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON MINE BUT I ASSUME MANY OTHERS ARE AFFECTED.

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed during the evening hours, the contact noticed that the front headlights were not functioning properly. The contact replaced the headlight bulbs, but the failure occurred. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage is unknown.

Apr 18, 2024

My 2015 RDX lowbeam headlight getting dimmer gradually. It is too dim to the level of undrivable at night. I replaced the light bulb, but it doesn't help. It almost cause a collison that the opponent car from side of road can not see the light.

This vehicle was purchased used on [XXX]. The vehicle was test driven during the day time. The vehicle was also inspected by the dealer prior to purchase and a state inspection sticker was issued. After purchase the vehicle was driven at night, in the dark, upon which it was discovered a headlight was out. It was subsequently replaced by the dealer. However, after continued driving in the dark, at night, it was also discovered that the headlights did not provide adequate light to see whether on the highway or side streets. The headlights are very dim. Provides limited viewing at night. I see this is a well known issue with similar models, but not this one. I did call for repair and it is extremely expensive for what I feel should be a safety recall. This unfortunately will impact but future decisions and thoughts about the Acura. I love everything else about my experience with this car, but this major safety issue not being recalled is of great concern. Is there anything I can do about getting this covered? Mar 25, 2024

The headlights of the vehicle are extremely dim. It is dangerous to drive at night or in the rain because of how dim the headlights are. The headlights have been restored, but they are still dim

Mar 12, 2024

The headlights have become exceptionally dim in my 2015 RDX and they no longer illuminate the roadway at night time. The condition is even worse and more dangerous when the roadway is wet and/or there is an oncoming car. Note: the bulbs work and replacing them with new bulbs make NO difference in the light being projected from the assemblies. There is something wrong with the headlight assemblies themselves. This is very unsafe. I see recalls for other Acura models / years with similarly designed headlights.

Mar 11, 2024

The headlights in this model of the RDX are extremely dim making driving at night impossible. The headlights do not illuminate the roadway in front of the vehicle. I had 1% lux reading as measured by an automotive illumination engineer. After further research into this issue I learned that the low-beam reflector itself oxidizes, is not reflective at all, and no amount of brighter bulbs or clean outside lenses will help with a reflector that doesn’t reflect. This has been an ongoing problem for the 2013-2015 Acura RDX models. Acura did a recall on the RLX of the same years for the exact issue and the manufacturer of the headlights for the RLX subsequently manufactured the same headlights for the RDX. Phone calls to Acura from many RDX owners have proved unsuccessful with Acura stating they would only issue a recall if they were forced to do so by NHTSA.

Mar 8, 2024

My 2015 Acura RDX has shockingly dim headlights on low beam. The bulbs were replaced within the past year, but the light output is still dangerously bad. Very unsafe to drive at night or in inclement weather. My dealer has confirmed this is a known issue, yet there has been no recall. There has been a recall of the same model year for a different Acura model, the RLX sedan, for headlight issues. Why is the RDX not included?

Mar 4, 2024

Low beam light is extremely dim. Dealership replaced the bulb but there is no improvement. I was explained that reflector is defective- burned out due to original Acura design using halogen bulb which caused reflector oxidation. It is a major safety issue as driving at night within required light is hazardous

Feb 20, 2024

I just got this 2015Acura RDX And went to drive it at night the lights are absolutely horrendous. I actually almost got into a couple of accident, I also couldn't see the island in the middle of the road or the sidewalks. Trying to turn right Into a driveway I went over a curve because I couldn't even see where I was going, because of these lights. If I would have known this was a problem, I would have not purchased an Acura. This should be Addressed and definitely fixed by the company. Also, I was not Advised of this problem from the dealer That is uncalled for. So, now I am afraid to drive at night. What does this mean? I can't drive at night?

Feb 14, 2024

Over time, the halogen headlights have dimmed to the point where night-time driving and driving in rain/fog/snow are unsafe. This is not due to the halogen bulb itself, nor clarity of the lens housing, but rather the reflector. This appears to be a very common problem, confirmed by many other RDX owners. NHTSA should issue a recall for this part as they have done for similar issues facing the 2014-15 Acura RLX.

Feb 13, 2024

I drove my wife’s car (this Acura RDX) the other night and was surprised how poorly I could see with the dim lights. When I was approaching on coming traffic on a rural two line road in the rain and at night, I could not see the center or edge of road line at all. Basically had to look for the elevation or texture difference of the road and grass on the side of the road. It was a very unsafe and scary situation. With passing of on-coming traffic, the return to the bright lights was like night and day. Even with no on-coming traffic, the lighting with dim lights was too dim to drive with. I am so thankful my wife have not been in an accident, but so frustrated that she has been put in that situation without any warning or notification from the manufacture or other. Apparently from what I have read on the web, this situation is well know, but unaddressed. Shame on the industry.

Feb 13, 2024

I only feel that it is right I complain about the Acura Rdx headlights I really fear I will only end up hurting my self and/or others. The low beam headlight are dangerous at night I barely see the headlight on and when it’s snowing and the night time with no street lights I’m scared for my life. I can only drive my Acura rdx during the daytime. Please investigate this problem. Thank you

Feb 7, 2024

Low beam lights at night are so dim that one can hardly tell they are even on almost. It is unsafe to drive at night and particularly rainy conditions at night without using the high beams. Bulbs have been replaced to the brightest available on the market and the plastic lenses of the headlights have had any oxidation removed. It appears as though the reflector in which the low beam bulbs mount into are completely hazed over. Yet there is no way to clean or replace these individual parts without replacing the entire headlight assembly. It is available for inspection if desired and I have not yet consulted a dealer. Vehicle currently has 120k miles and the issue started to be noticeable before hitting 100k miles. It is at the point now where I will need to personally replace the headlight assemblies or have a dealer or body shop perform this work.

Feb 2, 2024 Crash

The headlight reflector has become so foggy that it does not illuminate anything further than 5 feet in front of it. The light does not spill onto the road. This has caused other drivers to be unaware of my presence at night, and lead to one turning into my lane and running me off of the road, popping my tires and ruining my car’s alignment.

Feb 1, 2024

Low beams headlights are very dim .Very dangerous to drive in to drive at night.

Jan 30, 2024

Low beam reflector has failed and the low beams do do not provide safe/adequate lighting making it nearly impossible to see while driving at night creating danger for the driver as well as others on the road. This seems to be a known issue that Acura will not address

Jan 25, 2024

Vehicle has 80k miles. Low beam headlights are VERY dim, making it dangerous to drive at night. I haven't taken it anywhere to be inspected. Based on some searches on the Internet this is a very common issue for RDX Base models from years 2013 - 2015.

Jan 22, 2024

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was started, the headlamps were extremely dim, making it difficult to see the roadway while driving. The contact stated that both headlight bulbs were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

I cant see if my headlight is on at night. I have HID and it is not working so well. daytime is fine but when i need it when its raining or dark, it is very hard to see.

Jan 22, 2024

Dim headlights due to projector housing malfunctions. Original headlights have burned reflective coating. Vision at night is non existent and driving safely at night is not possible. This seems to be a common problem Acura refuses to acknowledge. The vehicle supposedly was checked by caravan before I purchased it. Led headlights have not helped.

Jan 20, 2024

Low beam headlights are extremely dim and dangerous. Cannot see the lines on the road at night especially if it’s raining there seems to be a common complaint based on an Internet search.

Jan 20, 2024

My 2015 Acura RDX headlights are so dim it is dangerous to drive at night, especially with rain on the road. This affects my ability to drive safely at all times, on any roads, at night. I've tried replacing the bulbs, but the problem is inside the headlight assembly on the reflector and the lens. In order to be safe, I must perform a complete replacement of the headlight assembly, which costs over $1000 for each side.

Jan 13, 2024

The headlights are so dim that we can no longer drive it safely at night. The only apparent fix is to replace the entire headlight assemblies for about$2000.

Jan 12, 2024

My headlights are EXTREMELY DIM. I contacted the dealership 4 days after I purchased my Acura RDX to only be told my warranty doesn't cover the headlights and I would have to pay out of pocket to get them fixed. My headlights are so dim it looks like I'm driving with my running lights on. I have to drive with my high beams at night because I have almost hit a pedestrian and run into a ditch not being able to see 2 feet in front of me. I have video of how bad they are. Acura needs to take responsibility and fix this issue ASAP! I will not stop until they do. I don't want anyone to get hit or even killed because Acura wants to turn a blind eye regarding this major issue we are ALL having!

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated that the headlights failed to produce adequate lighting while driving at night. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to the local dealer, who replaced the bulbs however, the failure persisted. The dealer stated that the headlight assemblies needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,990.

Jan 2, 2024

The 2015 Acura RDX has a problem with the exterior headlamps making it a safety hazard when driving at night. Over time, the auto or all electric light options have not been fully functioning. The standard lighting on the headlights is very dim, whether using Auto or "turn on all" electric light options. Poor visibility from the regular lights is so low that the high beams need to be used regularly, even on local streets with lampposts. I tried cleaning the exterior of the lights with an at-home cleaner (oxidizer) and it helped the exterior but not the lighting. I recently took the RDX into the dealership; they replaced the bulbs but this did not resolve the issue. The service department said there was no recall for the headlights on the 2015 RDX. A similar headlight issue was addressed on a 2014-15 Acura RLX vehicles (based on Consumer Affairs online report). My option is now to replace both headlamps. The cost to replace the headlamps - with halogen lights only - is approximately $3,100. That is a huge expense to address a manufacturer standard safety function for a vehicle. My car has been serviced by Acura dealerships (and primarily the one where I bought my car) so the manufacturer knows that there certified technicians have handled all maintenance associated with this vehicle. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue with the Acura 2015 RDX headlights. This safety violation should result in Acura providing a recall option for all Acura 2015 RDX with known headlamp issues. Having proper working, standard lighting in a vehicle is a basic safety requirement and it is not clear why Acura has not addressed this issue with this model. NOTE: I tried to upload a picture of my car and a statement from the dealership on the cost of headlight replacement and the upload function is not working.

Jan 2, 2024

Low beams are so dim that you cannot tell if the vehicle has its lights on at all. This forces me to use my high beams when driving at night blinding other drivers. Acura has stated that the whole headlight assembly must be replaced. There are no warnings or light bulbs out on the vehicle.

Jan 2, 2024

Ballast/Reflector in headlightz started dimming at 80,000 miles, now unable to produce light at all. This is a known factory defect that acura has been too cheap to recall. I can only see with my highbeams at night and even they barely produce light.

Dec 29, 2023

Low beam headlamps are very dim and unsafe to drive with at night. Changing bulbs does not help as the interior of the unit is defective. This is very unsafe to drive at night.

Dec 19, 2023

The headlights on this vehicle have deteriorated over time to the point where it is 100% a safety issue. I have had all of the bulbs replaced, but it is not the bulbs and this is a known issue with this model of vehicle. I am baffled that there hasn't been a recall for this vehicle for this KNOWN issue. It would be pretty easy to look across multiple forums and find numerous people with the same issue. The biggest challenge with this issue is that it doesn't occur all at once. It's kind of a slow burn over time, which makes it somewhat difficult to notice. There have been a number of times where there is something in the road and I've had to swerve at the last second to avoid it because the headlights were not projecting as they should.

Dec 17, 2023

My headlights provide no useable light to drive at night I have to use my high beams. So I avoid using this car at night when possible. It is my understanding that there was a recall on a similar problem of the Acura. 2014-2015 Acura RLX 11, 2014 – Acura will voluntarily recall approximately 9,700 model-year 2014-2015 RLX vehicles in the United States to replace the both headlight assemblies, free of charge. I would like my car headlights fixed so I can drive at night. This is not a maintenance problem but a Acura headlight product problem.

Dec 16, 2023

The low beam headlight of my 2015 Acura RDX FWD became so dim and made driving at night impossible, unless putting the high beam on. I went to the local ACURA dealership and replaced the lightbulbs but it made not difference at all. I saw many same complaints on-line for ACURA RDX manufactured between 2013-2015, this is a serious safety issue and Honda needs to do something to fix this issue before people get hurt.

Dec 13, 2023

Headlights are very dim. Originally they were bright. Over time they have dimmed to the point of not being able to see at night. There are many discussions and threads on this defect. This is a significant safety issue.

Dec 11, 2023

My 2015 Acura RDX headlights have progressively been getting more and more dim over the past 5+ years. I am now at the point that I can no longer safely drive my car at night. I am unable to see very far in from of me, making it impossible to see lines in the road, or gauge where my vehicle is in the road. I have to use my high beams if I want to see anything. This blinds oncoming traffic. While looking this problem up online, I see that many others have complained about this, but there has been no resolution. Acura told me to pay the dealership to do diagnostics on my car and send them the report. I do not have the money to pay for diagnostics, and do not feel I should do so when there is a lot of evidence of a problem already. Acura recalled headlights of another model that had the same issue, the Acura RLX. "Delamination of the aluminum film may diminish output of the headlight, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash"

Dec 9, 2023

The headlights on the 2015 Acura RDX are so dim I cannot drive at night without leaving my high beams on. This has been going on for 3 years and the Acura dealer has generically said it is a known problem and there is no easy fix. There are many reports of this issue and it is a serious safety issue that neither Acura or NHTSA have addressed. It is dangerous for my family and me as we cannot see turns or obstacles well and it is dangerous for approaching drivers when I have to leave my high beams on.

Dec 1, 2023

Not related to any specific event, but the headlight housing on my Acura RDX has degraded such that the lights are nearly too dim to be usable at night. The dealer has advised me of a $3k cost to fix, but this is apparently a known, recurring issue related to this model, and perhaps other Acura models. Apparently, the reflective housing degrades around the headlight.

Nov 29, 2023

Over the past several months I have observed my headlights becoming dimmer when driving at night. It has gotten to the point where I now feel unsafe driving the vehicle as I can barely see the road. It appears the reflective surface inside the headlights has oxidized and no longer reflects at a safe brightness level. I spoke to my local dealership and the service department advised that he has seen the same issue on 2013-2015 RDX models but Acura has yet to issue any type of recall. My only option presented was to replace the headlight assemblies with an estimated cost of $2,200 for parts and labor.

Nov 23, 2023

Recently purchased a used 2015 RDX, headlights were foggy and the dealer cleaned the outer lens but the inner lens is not possible to restore. They are so dull that you must drive with the high beams on in order to see clearly. The Acura RLX had a recall for the exact same problem, this recall should have been extended to the RDX as well.

Nov 21, 2023

Low Beam Headlights degraded over the time to the point that driving at night became unsafe. Border line between lighted and dark road surface non exist. Replacing halogen bulbs has not solved the issue.

Nov 20, 2023 Crash

My 16 year old son was at a church function until after dark because daylight savings time means it is dark earlier. When he began to drive home he could not see the roadway because the low beam headlights provided close to zero illumination. He lost visibility and drove off the road into someone’s yard. There were children outside and they could have been killed. Only minor damage to the grass and yard occurred and fortunately no damage to the vehicle. He called me and I instructed him to engage the high beams and drive home which caused several oncoming vehicles to swerve and react menacingly because he didn’t dim his lights. The oxidation of the reflective coating is a known defect that was recalled in the Acura ILX and I expect that they should be required to take the same corrective action for the base model RDXs. Please take action

Nov 5, 2023

The low beam headlights are so dim that it is dangerous to drive at night. We must drive with high beams on in order to be safe on the road. It is unsafe for the car, us and other drivers to have the RDX on the road using low beams. In 2021, we had the vehicle inspected by the dealership, they informed us that the fix would be a $1200 replacement of the headlights. They offered to clean the lenses at a reduced cost, which we had already done, but this did not fix the problem. There are no warning lights or other indicators of the problem except that we cannot see at night.

Nov 2, 2023

My 2015 Acura RDX has such dim headlights, that I feel that it is not safe to drive at night. The headlights have gotten so dim that I can't even tell if they are on, unless I drive by a building and see the lights in the reflection. The only way I can drive safely is to have my high beam headlights on, which is not safe for other drivers. As I understand it, the 2015 Acura RLX has had recalls for a very similar headlight issue. Why hasn't this recall been extended to the 2015 RDX, which appears to be built off the same platform, and is having the same issue?

Oct 30, 2023 Crash

The headlights are horrible. I am unable to drive safely without using my bright lights. When I dim my headlights before approaching an oncoming car it is dangerous. On October 28, 2023 I did just that and missed seeing a deer due to the lack of visibility due to the defective headlights and hit the deer damaging my vehicle's right headlights. Prior to the accident, I invested in installing fog lights to remedy the situation, but it still did not help. I am holding Acura responsible for my accident which was due to defective headlights.

Oct 24, 2023

Headlights horribly dim on low - only illuminate the roadway at night if on high beams. Took it into the dealership today and was told it would be $2,500 to replace the reflectors and basically re-do the whole front headlamp area. We had this car mainly garaged during COVID when working from home 100%. Now that we drive it more, we realize it has become unsafe -cannot see to drive at night at all. Other vehicles with this problem have had recalls - RDX models of this 2015 year need to also be recalled so the problem can be fixed before causing accidents.

Oct 19, 2023

I have been having issues with the external low beams for the past 9months-1 year. They have progressively been getting more dim to now I can't even drive my car at night without using my high beams. I have replaced the bulbs and done headlight restoration without any improvement. There have been no warning lamps or messages on my car at all.

Oct 18, 2023

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated that the headlights failed to produce adequate light at night. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the bulbs, but the failure recurred. The contact called the dealer, who diagnosed that the casing needed to be replaced and the reflector had deteriorated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

Mileage: 125,000

Oct 11, 2023

The reflective surface inside the headlights has oxidized and no longer reflects at a safe brightness level. I have had the lenses cleaned and the bulbs replaced, but I still can barely see the road and can't drive my car at night until the entire headlight assemblies are replaced. This is not an easy task to do, and the assemblies are not inexpensive, Why isn't there a receall since this is a known safety issue?

The headlights are very dull and fail to illuminate the road at night. Thus, night driving is a hazard and using high beams blind other drivers.

LOWBEAM HEADLIGHTS: I have noticed myself and others have told me my RDX headlights do not light your driving as much as other cars. I been told this for couple year but I rarely drive at dark these days. On Monday Oct 2 I was driving home in Naples Florida at 8p and realized I could hardly see the road if there wasn't street lights aiding my view. Then on one stretch of road where there are not street lights and no other cars driving beside, I realized I cannot see the road at all unless I drive with my HIGH beams on . So I drove home on HIGH beams the entire distance and made it safely. I'm not sure of whether other cars could see me or not at night, so I know that this is a safety issue. After researching this problem online I quickly found conversations regarding how common this problem is on the RDX around 100k miles. Well, now it seems I'm hearing and reading this everywhere the more I research. I called the dealer service and they want about $1500 to replace my 2 entire headlight kits. This is ridiculous price gouging when I don't have that kind of money and I have to drive unsafely or with high beams on at night which could result in a traffic ticket for doing so. I definitely believe my low beams are unsafe to drive at night and that they got worse overtime, not just overnight.

Oct 2, 2023

My front headlights have gradually become so dim my car is unsafe to drive at night. I have had them checked and they are on - they have become so sim it is dangerous. This is an ongoing issue - I am posting the date that I had a friend in the car who kept asking if my lights were on and was freaking out that we were driving without lights.

Oct 1, 2023

headlight assembly has failed, reflective material has deteriorated and the low beam is now so faint it is not safe to drive at night. can isnt even 10 years old and cant be driven at night due to headlight failure

Sep 14, 2023

The low-beam headlights gradually dim over time. Dim headlights can pose a safety risk, preventing drivers from seeing a safe distance ahead. This is not very safe to drive the vehicle at nighttime, my fear and the safety of my family to continue driving this vehicle. Acura should voluntarily recall the 2015 Acura RDX, due to defective headlights. It's outrageous that Acura hasn't recalled it. The low-beam reflector itself oxidizes, is not reflective at all, and no amount of brighter bulbs. Light output of 2015 Acura Rdx is very low due to bad foil in projector headlights. I have swtiched bulbs but that did not make much different. This is a safety concern.

Sep 7, 2023

The car's low beam headlights do not safely illuminate the road in front of you. Honda/Acura has acknowledged a recall on other models of the Acura but they have not recalled 2015 Model RDX automobiles for this problem. The headlight's illumination is unsafe and pose a serious risk to all traffic. This problem forces the driver to illuminate high beams to see the road surface at night even when other traffic is traveling onward to the vehicle. This poses a serious safety risk to both parties.

Sep 7, 2023

The low beams are so dim that I have to drive only during the day and if I get stuck driving at night, I have no choice but to use my high beams. This is a safety issue because I am constantly paying attention to adjusting my lights as to not blind other drivers rather than all around driving. I have had several near misses for head on collisions. The first in 2019 from unintentionally blinding the oncoming drivers. Since then the lights have grown much worse. I am unable to see wild life and pedestrians, curbs etc. I have a job that requires me to work after dark during fall/winter. I have changed the bulbs and refurbished the lamp covers. This has not helped. I then did research and found that many 2013, 2014 RDX have been recalled due to the same issue and the 2015 RLX. Please help us 2015 RDX drivers to drive safely by instituting a recall on the faulty head lamp casing that has been recalled in other years and models.

Sep 6, 2023

The cover of front headlights are all foggy. This makes it difficult to see at night and does not put out the light like it use to. This is on both headlights and the vehicle is under 9 years old and kept in the garage. There are several posts like this with same issue for the 2015 Acura RDX. This is a material flaw and should be recalled. Issue started happening in 2019.

The low beam lighting has been dimmed even replacing with new light bulb doesn’t fix it it’s hard to drive at night

Aug 30, 2023

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the low-beam headlights were very dim. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V792000 (Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 99,500.

Mileage: 99,500

Aug 11, 2023

I purchased the vehicle used on July 4, 2023. I've noticed that the low beam lights are very dim to the point they are a safety hazard. My daughters both have Honda CR-V models and both of their low beam lights are much brighter than mine. I looked online, and there are a lot of people with the same issue. I took it to the dealer, and they said nothing was wrong with it. However, there is definitely something clearly wrong with it because you can barely see to drive at night. The high beams work fine, but I can't drive around with high beams all of the time.

Aug 10, 2023

The headlight reflectors are so bad that it has become dangerous to drive in the night. The dealership agreed that its Acura's defect for that year and asked about $2500 to replace the whole headlight unit. No use in changing just the bulb.

Aug 10, 2023

low beam headlights are extremely dim. It is not possible to drive at night on any roads that are dark. Replaced the light bulbs, had it polished, nothing works.

Aug 7, 2023

The headlights of the RDX have grown very dim. In 2022, to pass inspection, the mechanics had us change the lamps. While they passed us for inspection, I noticed very little difference in light output. This weekend I nearly hit an under-lit bicyclist, while battling head-on lights in a bit of drizzle. In these conditions the forward light from the RDX headlights is non existent, leaving the driver to discern the glare and shadows. Really the light output is unsafe in any conditions even pure darkness. The reported cause is the deterioration of internal reflectors due manufacturing flaws. While I can no longer drive the vehicle without putting replacement lights on it, I will happy to send my old headlights to NHTSA so they can dissect and see the manufacturing flaw. Hopefully then, a recall can be made. Please let me know where to send them!

Jul 18, 2023

Front Headlights are very dim, making it impossible to use without using the brights. Bulbs have been replaced to high intensity, and it still does not help. According to my mechanic and on-line forums, the problem is the reflective material inside the headlight assembly. Other models of Acura's have been recalled for this, but not the above model. It is getting very dangerous to drive and we do not want to spend the money for two new headlight assemblies when this is a defect in manaufactoring

Jul 18, 2023

The headlight housing is insufficiently opperating and is losing power and not providing safe lighting - it is exceedingly unsafe. this is a common issue among 2015 RDX when doing a search

Jul 17, 2023

headlights are so dim after almost 100k miles. I replaced headlights and they’re still dim. so dim i can’t drive my car at night. went to the dealership and they said others have complained w this issue but no recalls yet. they have to change the entire bulb which would be over $2000.

Jul 8, 2023

Since 2020 the headlights on my car have gotten dimmer, to the point that it does not even look like they are on or illuminate anything at night. If I have to drive when it’s dark I have to rely on my high beams when it’s safe to use them on the road. I have changed lightbulbs and cleaned the exterior of the headlights as suggested by dealership with no change. The only remaining option I was told was to pay to replace the headlight setup/pieces for $800-$1000 each. When I have had my headlights inspected I am told there is no recall for this issue, but every person has noted that they are extremely dim and it is a common problem with my model.

Jul 4, 2023

Low beam headlights do not provide enough light for night driving. Just purchased a used Acura RDX with 100k miles for my daughter and I do not feel that it's safe to let her drive after dark. This appears to be a known issue with the RDX ranging 2013-2015 and I'm surprised to see there have been 0 recalls for this obvious safety issue. Hope this writeup is the one that tips the scales to force a recall.

Jul 3, 2023

Low Beam headlight is extremely dim. You can't even tell they are on in pitch darkness. This may be due to the reflector housing deteriorating.

Jun 23, 2023

Headlights do not reflect more than 3 feet. The headlights “pass” inspection but provide no use.

Jun 14, 2023

The headlights are very dim. The bulbs have been replaced and still are dim. This isn't due to oxidation on the headlight cover they are clear. Based on similar reports it seems to be a component in the low beam assembly that oxidizes the reflector and as a result replacement bulbs don't fix the issue. The problem keeps getting worse to the point that the headlights are almost useless for seeing where you are going. The actual part appears to cost about $60 but Acura won't replace that they will only replace the entire headlight assembly which cost about $700 each.

Jun 8, 2023

Headlights are dim. Visibility is very low. Acura acknowledges issue but says customer has to replace whole headlight system at a cost of approximately $2000

Jun 4, 2023

Low beams have dimmed to an unsafe level due to oxidation of the reflector. Replacement of bulbs with the brightest option made little difference. Dealership acknowledged it is a common problem.

Jun 4, 2023

Low beam headlights have become dim to the point where they offer no visibility. This has been a progressive decline in the low beam lights. I now use high beams as much as possible for safe travel. This is a problem experienced by many Acura owners with no help from Acura except to offer a costly replacement of headlight assemblies.

May 31, 2023

The daytime running light is dangerously dim on one side. Changing the headlight doesn't fix the issue. The housing is defective it's failing to reflect the light outward causing dangerous visibility issues.

May 11, 2023

The low beam lights have completely degraded making the car basically inoperable at night. It has been gradual but is now at the point where I am constantly being flashed by other drivers to put on my lights even though they are on. The daytime running lights are brighter! The output from the low beams has been so poor that I have to rely on street lights as well as the headlights of other cars when on the highway. Now I HAVE to use my high beams to operate my car at night and early morning. It is horrific to drive in fog and snow as high beam use is impossible. I have replaced the bulbs, had headlight restoration and replaced the halogen with LED. NOTHING makes a difference. I will not allow my teenagers to drive the car at night and I will not buy another Acura. Through internet research, I have found many other owners of the 2015 RDX with the same experience.

May 7, 2023

Low Beam headlights have degraded to the point of being unable to see the road and have to use high beams to drive at night.I have replaced the low beam bulbs with no improvement .The problem seems to be the low beam bulb capsules that the bulbs are in that have some type of reflective coating that has deteriorated.I see Acura has recalled the 2015 model RLX for this same problem. I have searched online and there are many posts about this headlight problem with the 2015 RDX .There has to be a recall on the RDX also as these vehicles are unsafe !

Apr 21, 2023

Main head lights are not giving enough brightness to see the road. Visibility while driving during night is very hard and can’t see clearly an object which is at 5 to 6 feet distance also. It’s a 2015 Acura RDX AWD base and there are many complaints online in different forums also about head light visibility issue. I gone to Acura dealer but their suggestion is to cleanup external plastic headlight cover and change lights which is not resolving the issue. Head light brightness is detoriating day by day. Please take action appropriately as there are many 2015 Acura RDX with the same issue and without proper head light brightness leads to improper driving which leads to accidents and it’s a safety related issue.

Apr 21, 2023

Around 80,000 miles my headlights seemed to have become quite dim. I have changed out the head lightbulbs twice, 2nd time to the brightess bulbs available to buy. No change in brightness. I bought a kit to clean the outer surface lens still no change in brightness . They headlights are so dangerously dim it doesn’t look like I have headlights on. Also anyone who gets in the car with me always says “you need to turn your headlights on” & I say “ they are on! “ Basically I have to drive around with my brights on in order to see at night and my brights look like everybody else’s regular headlights when I’m next to other cars . I took my car to the Gillman Acura dealership in Houston where I purchased my car to have them look at the lights and they told me that the lens cover is degraded and cloudy over the lightbulbs and the whole headlamp would need to be replaced. I was told the light lens has degraded and become cloudy because of the sun light reflecting into my headlights and also because of sun reflecting off of buildings into my headlights where I park for long periods of time, to which I replied” I park in the garage and where I work, there’s no reflection coming off of the building! I’ve had many cars throughout my life and this is has never happened before ….they told me it would cost $2200 to replace both of them ! I recently decided to look online to see if other people were having this problem and I read where many people have complained of the same problem with their 2015 RDX ! Also, I found out that there was a previous recall on the 2014-2015 RLX because of the same issue! Which states HID is getting around 100,000 miles because of the reflector or Fresnel lens degrading because of aluminum film glued to headlight inner reflector. I hope there is a recall issued for my model of car too to it sounds like the same exact problem and & $2,200 to fix them is more than I can afford currently! Thank You

We have been having issues with very dim headlights in our vehicle that has presented numerous safety issues. From our research this seems to be a global problem with these headlights and something needs to be done about it. It is not safe for us or those around us to have to drive with our dim lights or with our high beams on to compensate. We have also filed into a class action lawsuit for resolution to this issue as stated below this is why we are contacting you. Thanks for your assistance with this matter. You previously contacted us about dim headlights in your Acura RDX. Thank you for contributing to our investigation. Our law firm is continuing our investigation of the defect and potential class action claims. Because dim headlights present a significant safety issue for drivers and pedestrians, we suggest that you may want to submit a safety complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index, if you have not done so already. Doing so will help create a record of safety complaints about this issue, and help ensure that Acura is aware of the scope of the problem. We will keep you apprised of any significant developments in our efforts to achieve a resolution for consumers. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. The headlights on this vehicle are defective. They do not project light and over time deteriorated to a point where you cannot see when driving in the dark. NOTE, this is not a result of the bulb as we went to great expense to twice change it out with new bulbs. The first time we used an OEM new bulb matched what was originally installed with no improvement. After that, we tried a newer style LED bulb with about a 10% improvement but we still could not see to drive at night. After extensive online research, we found a significant group of posts of many people having the exact same problem. And then we learned what the actual problem was. The lens coating, that reflects and focuses the light from the bulb was defective and failed, thus changing the bulb to a new one had no positive results. After contacting Acura as I know many others did from reading online, they still refused to take responsibility for the defect. Our only solution was to replace both lighting assemblies with brand new, non-OEM ones at significant expense. Adding up the cost of new bulbs, labor, new light housings, and more labor, we had over $1,000 of costs involved.

Apr 17, 2023

The lights on my 2015 Acura RDx became so dim it was no longer safe to drive. I took it to my mechanic and he agreed saying he also felt it was a safety issue. I contacted the dealer as well as Acura and they were aware of the issue but said it was not covered under our extended warranty. The car has limited miles and we decide to replace the lights at a cost of $1859.42. The replacement of the lights has made a significant difference in the safety of the vehicle. The lights were so dim that cars coming in the other direction were flashing at me and I started to avoid driving it at night and took my husbands car. I have the lights available if they need to be inspected.

Apr 16, 2023

The headlights on the car are dangerously dim. The lights have been frustratingly dim for years (at least 5+ years since I’ve owned the car) but now I’m genuinely concerned for my family’s safety—they’ve continued to get dimmer and dimmer. The only way I can make it home at night is by using my brights. And even the brights present a dangerous situation for me and other cars on the road. I’ve been told by dealers that this is a known issue but they will not repair it for free without a recall — the fix is not as simple as replacing lightbulbs, it is easily $3,000-4,000 of labor and parts (the entire headlights need to be replaced). How can Acura / Acura dealers know about faulty, dangerous parts and refuse to do anything about it? Please intervene for the safety of my family. Further, I’ve read online about others in the exact same situation. This needs to be fixed and is tremendously dangerous. It’s only getting worse. Also, while the date on this complaint is today (4/16/2023), this has been an issue for YEARS.

Apr 6, 2023

Notice 2-3 years ago the low beam headlight is so dim, you cannot safely see at night. Even changing to new light bulb does not fix the problem. Dealer says this is normal but if you drive at night this is not normal. I found out this is well known issue with this generation of RDX that everyone is having the problem with. And I was told changing the entire light assembly housing is the only solution as OEM housing has a problem with reflector going bad overtime. I'm considering selling the car because of this safety issue but this will only put future buyer at risk and not resolving the safety issue.

Apr 2, 2023

The lights are too dim to safely drive at night and they are becoming even worse and are now so low that I must use my high beams to see at night. I have spoken to the dealer but the only thing they suggested was a new headlight, it did not make anything better.

Mar 30, 2023

The dim lights are horrible with about 20% of the correct or new car illumination of the street. I have replaced the low beam 3 times and I am not able to see the road with the low beam. This forces me to use my bright beams which is not safe. I have had a high energy bulb replace as suggested by the dealer and they are not helping. When you go the the service dept. at Acura and they l say, yes we hear this a lot. This is a real issue for safety. I have a case with Honda / Acura and they asked that I take my car to the local dealer for an evaluation. I did that and they kept my car for almost a month. No fix or repairs were made. The fix is a total replacement of the lights, wire system and lens cover. That is about $2000 and I should not need to pay due to this quality issue. I have a case number from Honda which can share with you if you want it. If you do an internet search you will see that this is a national problem and a recall from Honda / Acura need to be forced as they are not willing to fit the problem on their own.

Mar 27, 2023

Headlight low beam becomes very dim - almost not be able to drive at night. Went to the dealership. They quote me $1500 to replace both headlight assembly because the old ones are "not working". It failed state safety inspection!

Mar 26, 2023

LOW BEAMS VERY DIM. DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AFTER DARK WITHOUT USING HIGH BEAMS. MANUFACTURER STATES THAT THE REFLECTIVE COATING IN THE LOW BEAM HOUSING LOSES IT'S ABILITY TO PROPERLY REFLECT LIGHT FROM HEADLAMP OVER TIME. REPLACEMENT QUOTE FROM BRADSHAW ACURA (GREENVILLE SC) WAS $2,400. VEHICLE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT ACURA RDX 2013-2015 HAVE THIS DEFECT.

Mar 24, 2023

Headlights are extremely dim. Headlights replaced with no results. Dealer states faulty wiring and inner reflector

Mar 17, 2023

The headlights are very dim (barely any light at night) and the dealership stated the entire headlight assembly has to be replaced (over $2300 in costs). Apparently many of the same model and year RDX have the same problem.

Mar 15, 2023

The headlights do not adequately illuminate the front of the car.

Mar 12, 2023

The low beam lights are almost none existent. We bought he car used two days ago (3/10/23) and we drove for the first time at night and had not light visible. Car's behind were casting more light. We had to use our high beams to get home. I checked and all lights are working, high, low, running, turn, fog, etc. No bulbs are burned out. I have replaced the bulbs with OEM. No change.

Mar 11, 2023

The one headlight is very dim and it makes seeing on the road not as visible.

Mar 10, 2023

The headlights on this vehicle are so dim it is unsafe to drive at night. Was told by the dealership that it’s a common problem with this vehicle where the inner film oxidizes and degrades the coating. This issue happened on another model and was recalled and fixed. It is terrifying to drive at night, especially with my child in the car. I live in an area with deer and the lights are so dim you cannot even see in front of you. Someone is going to die due to this issue. If you Google this issue EVERYONE is complaining about it. According to Acura it would require me to pay approx $2500 for them to fix this issue. Again, not having working headlights is an extreme safety issue. This not only affects the one driving, but others can’t even see me on the road. Especially now that street lights are not really common anymore, it is impossible to see at night. Please issue a recall for the headlights to be replaced before someone gets hurt. Especially children who ride in this vehicle. This issue makes this vehicle dangerous, unsafe, and impossible to drive at night.

Mar 9, 2023

Headlights malfunctioned - they would turn on but lighting was very dim. The headlights were so dim while driving that driving in the evening became dangerous because they did not sufficiently illuminate the road so I could not see well. There was almost no difference in terms of improving visibility at night while driving between having the headlights on or off. That’s obviously a hazard for me and other drivers. When I brought the car to the dealership for inspection and repair, the Acura dealership mechanic ran diagnostics but prior to running them said he knew the problem was most likely due to deterioration of the reflective coating not an electrical issue. He said he sees many Acuras like mine coming in after 5 years with the same headlight problem and advised us to have the headlights replaced elsewhere to save money because the dealership charges $4,000 minimum for this repair. Diagnostics were fine, mechanic’s assessment was correct that the problem was premature deterioration of the silver reflective coating used in the headlights. This defect doesn’t cause warning lights to come on, the car can’t tell if the reflective coating in it’s headlights wears out. I noticed for a short while that the headlights were a bit dim and thought the exterior of the lights needed cleaning, but then it suddenly seemed like they weren’t working at all one evening. I actually got out of the car in my driveway one night to check if the lights had turned on - standing outside the car they appeared on but when I tried to drive that night it was so dark I had great difficulty.

Mar 9, 2023

I had taken my vehicle to the dealer because I was having a very difficult time at night seeing with my headlights. The dealer determined that both of my font headlights assemblies were extremely dim and needed to be replaced. I found the dealer to be very irresponsible and i informed them that this was a major accident waiting to happen since my driving was impaired by the dim headlights.

Mar 9, 2023

The vehicle headlights are dangerously low for night driving regardless of how new the bulbs are.

Mar 9, 2023

Both low beam headlights are very dim. Replacing the bulb does not increase brightness. Reports from internet are saying it’s because the reflective material oxidizes and no longer reflects. Extremely dangerous to drive at night.

Mar 7, 2023

My headlights have become dangerously dim once my car hit 100K miles. Despite cleaning the lens and changing the bulbs, I still can hardly see at night time. I regularly have to use my brights to be able to see the lines or curbs. Dealership wants to charge close to $3,000 for repairs and cannot seem to provide a plausible reason why my car after having no accidents and is well kept and maintained is having this headlight problem. It is a significant safety concern. I drive home from baseball practices with my 2 young sons at night and need to be able to see the road!

Mar 5, 2023

From initial purchase, the headlights never seemed bright enough and often at night it appeared as though they were not turned on at all. Nearly 3 years after owning the vehicle, research online revealed a systemic issue with the headlights. Local dealership quoted replacement cost at over $3,000. Safety impact was reduced visibility in low light situations, and pedestrians/other drivers were unable to clearly see the vehicle approaching in low light situations. Other owners indicate the same issue: https://www.carproblemzoo.com/acura/rdx/2015/headlights-problems.php Manufacturer issued a very limited recall for this issue which did not include my model: https://hondanews.com/en-US/releases/statement-by-acura-regarding-headlight-recall-2014-2015-acura-rlx A class-action suit is pending regarding this issue: https://chimicles.com/acura-rdx-dim-headlight-class-action-investigation/ There were no warning lamps nor messages in the vehicle to indicate the malfunction.

Mar 4, 2023

The headlights on my vehicle became extremely dim. I kept changing the bulbs and there was no improvement. It was very dangerous at night and my wife wouldn't drive the vehicle because she was unable to see the road as the lighting was so dim. I scrubbed the exterior lenses with clarifying kits. I changed the bulbs again and again. Finally I went online and found a forum that said this was a common problem due to age of the headlight components. I still don't understand the science behind what happened but when I bought and installed two new headlights for $483 (purchased on Amazon) it was literally like night became day. Serious to God, I'd say my headlights are now 10x-20x brighter. Mar 3, 2023

For at least 3 years starting in 2019 the headlights have been getting dimmer and dimmer. I had to use the high beams to see at night. Polishing the headlights did not help nor did changing the bulbs as it's the projector lens that has to be replaced.

Mar 3, 2023

Headlights are so dim that it is unsafe to drive at night. I filed a complaint with Acura and then, per their instructions, I had the dealer do a "discovery". They charged me for the evaluation and then declined covering the reparation. They want to charge $2300 to replace the entre headlight housings.

Mar 3, 2023

Low beam headlights do not supply enough light to see the road. Have tried many headlight bulbs and no change in visibility. Brought vehicle to Prime Acura and was told that the housing needed to be replaced, was told i would be responsible for this. This occurred when automobile had 75-80k miles. I am forced to drive with high beams at all times in order to see the road.

Mar 1, 2023

The original low beam bulbs (halogen) melted the cover making visibility abysmal. I’ve replaced the bulbs with a LED option, and still very low visibility. There is seemingly no difference between the headlights being on and being off.

Mar 1, 2023

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the low beam headlights were significantly dim, preventing the contact from properly seeing the roadway ahead. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that several passenger’s in the vehicle had inquired whether the low beam headlights were on while the contact was driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the bulbs were replaced several times; however, the failure persisted. The dealer informed the contact that it was a known failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Mileage: 60,000

Feb 28, 2023

I have had to replace both the driver side and passenger side headlight assemblies in this vehicle. This a defect with Acura RDX and should be recalled. The Acura dealership confirmed the headlights were dimmer than the daytime running lights and would not pass inspection. I replaced the left headlight in 2018 and the right one in 2022. Even after costly replacement, the lighting is still very dim and unsafe for night driving.

Feb 28, 2023

The headlights grew very dim over the last couple years. I replaced the bulbs and it made no difference. Finally, this winter, they got so dim that I couldn't drive it at night, anymore. I took it to repair shop to see if something was wrong with electric system, and they found no problems, just little light coming from the headlights. I went on line and found lots of people having same problem with the 2013-2015 base model RDXs. My repair shop looked into ordering them but OEM lights were on backorder - vendor said they are in heavy demand because of dimming problems. The bulbs are fine, just the chroming/reflective surface inside headlight assembly oxidized and lost reflectivity. $2000 for dealer to replace. $1300 just for the assemblies! That's 10% of the car's value. It is obviously a manufacturing problem and the results in a very dangerous situation at night when the lights appear to be working but are giving off little light. I have talked to other RDX owners I have come across and they had or are having the same problem - and are faced with same $2000 bill for what is an acknowledged problem and should have been justification for a recall. Dangerous situation from know manufacturing defect. I read that the 2013's were recalled or being fixed for free with enough complaining but nothing for 2014&2015s. I called dealer and they said all that could be done was to replace the entire assemblies and Acura isn't covering the cost or even offering a discount. No warnings - but i thought it was just my eyes going bad, but people seeing my car approaching told me my low beams were very dim. Even after putting in the brightest bulbs I could buy - bought 2 replacement sets for no improvement.

The issue is with the driving lights asembly since 2 years ago my driving lights are not providing enough light to drive the vehicle i am forced to have the high beams on. I have changed numerous bulbs to no avail. At this point i am driving and cannot see infrond of me. This is dangerous to my family and pedestrians that cannot see my car or me see them.

The vehicles headlights are too dim to view the road and pedestrians when driving.

Feb 28, 2023

Our 2015 Acura RDX started experiencing diminished lighting on low beam around 75000. We are currently at about 95000 and lighting is nearly nonexistent. In order to see the road at night, the lights must be on high beam. I discussed this issue with my local Acura service center and they advised that the only fix is to replace the entire headlamp at a cost of about $800 per light. Our car is available for inspection at any time. The photos show the Acura in my garage next to my Hyundai. The Acura is on the right and Hyundai on left. Both have lights on low beam. The second photo is just of the Acura.

Feb 25, 2023

It is extremely difficult to see at night without having to use my bright lights. The low beams are useless and poses as a hazard to the driver and the driver of the approaching vehicles. I have replaced my headlights and I have purchased fog lights as an attempt to fix the problem but it still did not fix the problem. These additional costs were well over $500. I am requesting that Acura correct this problem before I or someone else gets hurt. [XXX], Owner, Phone number [XXX]. The low beam headlights on both sides are too dim to drive on at night. I’ve had blubs replaced to the highest quality bulbs, but the issue is with the reflective coating on the headlight assembly. This was confirmed by the dealership. If a saftey inspector ever saw my car at night they’d never pass it. I have been pulled over by a cop telling me my lights are not on, but they were ( he let me go, I do not have documentation). The dealer recommended complete replacement of both light assemblies. Dim lighting first appeared around 50k but has gotten progressively worse. The dealer report and quote attached was at 76k. Their determination and quote for new lights is on page 6. My concern is that even with full assemblies replacement, the replacements will result in bad light. Other posts only show where people have replaced the assemblies only to find the same bad lighting. I have no problem spending the money if I knew it would fix the issue. The assemblies themselves seem built or designed defective. I’m at a loss for what to do.

Feb 16, 2023

From what I have learned, the halogen low beam bulbs deteriorated the reflectors to the point it was noticeable around 60,000 miles and lights are now too dim to drive the vehicle since about 80,000 miles. Full headlight housing replacement is required to remedy the problem. I was driving in the rain on a dark highway when I was unable to see the roadway and had to travel with my high beams with oncoming traffic. The dealership confirmed the degraded reflector problem. There were no warning lamps or messages related to the dim lights. It sounds like an identical problem to the Acura 2014-2015 RLX which was recalled.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Low beam headlights are dim. Available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I cannot properly see during night time driving. I almost crashed into a highway retainer wall. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No.

The low beam headlight reflector has deteriorated and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive at night

Feb 10, 2023

low beams so bad you cant see 10 feet ahead; in fact, the low beams from a car behind me will brighten the road in front of me more so. i replaced both bulbs, twice. Acura says this is over $1000 to replace both light assemblies. Other cars cant see me and i cant see other cars, or pedestrians! Progessively works since 2018

Feb 9, 2023

The front headlights are dangerously dim. It is all but impossible to see the road at night. Using the brights puts others at risk. This problem was diagnosed by the dealer as buildup inside the plastic light covering. The car is only 7 1/2 years old and is a premium brand. No warnings whatsoever. The lights were not great when I bought the car, and it has only gotten worse. If there is a defect in the manufacturing of the protective shields, I feel this should be the dealers responsibility, not mine. Total cost to me is $920. I do not feel this should be my responsibility.

Low beam headlights reflector screen failure. Cannot see road when low beams are on at night

Feb 2, 2023

This problem only applies to the base model of the 2015 Acura RDX because Acura installed Halogen Headlight bulbs, only in the base model, they get too hot for the reflective finish on the inside of the headlight assembly. The heat ruins the finish so there is very little reflective properties to cast light out in front of the car. You cannot see very well in the dark with low beams and cannot see at all when it is raining. They have fixed this problem on other models of Acura cars but not the RDX base model. Lots of complaints on chat rooms about this problem. I had to put LED lights in my fog lights to see in front of me.

Jan 30, 2023

My headlamps have become dimmer and dimmer. I changed the bulbs and the fuses are good as well. I checked online and discovered many online forums where others who own this model year Acura are experiencing the same thing and indicate the only resolution is to buy new headlamps. This is unacceptable that the consumer should have this burden placed on them because the manufacturer chose poor quality parts. This is extremely unsafe to drive with headlights that you can’t see anything at night with. HUGE safety risk that Acura needs to address.

Jan 25, 2023

The silver reflectors on the low beam headlights are very oxidized to the point night driving is very dangerous. I’m not referring to the clear plastic headlamp that often gets cloudy after many miles, but the actual low beam reflectors. Replacing the bulb is ineffective as it’s the reflector at fault. Cost to replace is $1,600. The is a well known reported problem 2013-2015 RDXs.

Jan 24, 2023

The HID low beam headlights on this car failed. The reflector is defective, per the Acura service manager. The only fix is to replace the entire headlight assembly. $2,300. Acura refuses to issue a recall, even though they have recalled another model in the past for headlight issues. This is a true safety issue that makes driving the car at night treacherous. Someone is going to get hurt or killed.

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated that while driving at night, the headlights were failing to illuminate properly. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he replaced both headlight bulbs; however, the failure recurred, and the driver’s side headlight was unable to illuminate more than 50 feet ahead of the vehicle. The contact stated that the hi-beam headlights were used while driving at night. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the front headlight assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V792000 (Exterior Lighting); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

Jan 22, 2023

On our base model 2015 RDX the low-beam headlights go dim after a couple of years. From what I've read this is due to the reflective bulb housing deteriorating in headlight assembly over time. New bulbs do not fix the problem. We have had the headlight assembly replaced once and the problem started all over again after a few years. The car is completely unsafe to drive at night. Acura has issued a similar recall to the RLX in the past but still has not acknowledged this same issue with the RDX and has yet to issue a recall. Please help.

Jan 20, 2023

The headlights are so dim you can not tell if you have them on at all. I have spent $400 on new bulbs. With all the complaints about the headlights, why hasn’t this been addressed. I almost ran over a pedestrian two nights ago. It is so dangerous that I can not drive my car at night.

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated while driving various speeds, the low-beam headlights were significantly dim. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had worsened, causing her to drive with the high-beam headlights activated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the headlights needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that she had to pay out-of-pocket for the repair because the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Low Beam headlight are very dim at night and very unsafe to drive. I have to drive with high beams so I can see which makes it unsafe for other cars. I replaced bulb with no improvement. I read many cases of this online. Acura needs to have this recalled to replace headlight assembly.

Jan 5, 2023

My low beam headlights barely put out any light.

Jan 3, 2023

Headlights are too dim. This poses a safety risk while driving at night. I contacted the dealer, only requesting a price of replacing the bulb (before I researched it is more than just the bulb). I was informed that this is a known issue. No one inspected it. There are no warning lights. I would like to file a complaint so a recall can be issued and owners do not have to pay out of pocket expenses for a known issue.

Jan 2, 2023

The headlights on the 2015 Acura RDX are so dangerously dim that it isn't safe to drive at night or in any other low-light condition. The low-beam reflector itself has oxidized and is not reflective at all, and no amount of brighter bulbs or clean outside lenses can solve the issue. The only recourse is to replace the entire housing. A quick online search shows that this is a common complaint and issue for 2013, 2014, and 2015 Acura RDX base models. There was a recall issued for the same issue on the Acura RLX but not the Acura RDX.

Jan 1, 2023

The headlights on my vehicle have been very dim, to the point of being unsafe to drive at night, and especially in inclement weather. Driving at night time in low light conditions the road is barley visible, especially during precipitation. I have replaced the bulbs for both headlights multiple with no improvement to visibility. I have also tried having the headlight lenses cover polished, which also yielded no improvement to visibility. The visibility provided from the headlights was sufficient when I first purchased the vehicle. The visibility issue started with the headlamp bulbs failing many times since my ownership of the vehicle. During the period of time of replacing the bulbs, I started notice a significant reduced visibility while driving in low light conditions. I would constantly check my headlights because I thought I had a headlight bulb out. That was not the case. The light projected from the headlights was very dim. I have contacted the Acura dealership, where I purchased the vehicle as a certified pre-owned. They informed me over the phone that it would cost me a diagnostic fee of approximately 175.00 to trouble shoot the problem. I even started consulting aftermarket vehicle shops. All of the aftermarket shops told me that they couldn't guarantee if replacing the whole headlight assembly would fix the problem, ass it could also be an electrical problem for the low light visibility. I have reached the point to wear driving at night time is just unsafe. I am now in the process of having both headlamps replaced at my own expense, not knowing if this will resolve the problem. Since the inception of this problem, there has been no other indication of an electrical or mechanical problem. This evolving safety issue has only gained my attention from my own driving experiences of having to drive in low light conditions, to which I have yet to find a definitive resolution.

Jan 1, 2023

Both of head lights are too dim for the 2015 RDX. Not enough lights to safely drive in the night. Commonly known for headlight reflector deterioration; plenty of others have experienced same issue (link below) and it's costly to fix the defect by Comsumer; please ask the car maker to recall and repair the defect https://community.cartalk.com/t/acura-rdx-2015-dim-headlights/180589/15 Similar recall were issued for 2015 Acura RLX: 2014-2015 Acura RLX Recalled To Fix Headlight Flaw https://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1096066_2014-2015-acura-rlx-recalled-to-fix-headlight-flaw

Jan 1, 2023

Low beams gradually got dim and I cannot drive at night with low beams on a huge safety concern as I cannot see driving at night without my high beams on. There must be a recall on these models as there are numerous complaints for this issue.

Dec 21, 2022

The car's Low Beams do not illuminate the road to a safe degree. I have replaced the low beam lights (done by an auto body shop) with a higher grade bulb but the replacement did not increase the light output. The whole headlight assembly will need to be replaced for it to be safe to drive at night. This seems to be a common problem with the Acura RDX and will be extremely costly to repair in order to make the vehicle safe to drive at night.

Dec 20, 2022

The low-beams have deteriorated in brightness rapidly over the last 8 months as the vehicle reaches 75,000 miles. The bulbs remain lit, but the reflector inside appears to not be adequately dispersing light, producing a very dim low-beam. The high-beams are not affected, indicating no electrical issues. The lack of a sufficiently bright headlight's risk is self evident: but includes the inability to see obstacles or vehicles until too late, inability of other vehicles and pedestrians to react to an approaching vehicle, etc. A dealer confirms this is a recurrent issue in this generation vehicle, and that since the reflector assembly appears to be at fault, changing bulbs is an inadequate solution. There are no warning lights to be noted, as corroborated online by others dealing with this issue.

Dec 19, 2022

My headlights are dim to the point of unsafe driving at night. I often cannot tell that my headlights are even on. I cannot see the side of the road, or what is in front of me, especially when other cars are approaching -- I have almost hit a person/pedestrian - it was a frightening experience. The problem has been confirmed only by my mechanic. I have contacted Acura The vehicle has only been inspected by my mechanic so far I received no warnings, and the lights progressively worsened over the last 4 months.

Dec 16, 2022

The headlights have become very dim to the point of not being safe on this vehicle. I have tried replacing the headlights with the brightest replacement that does not change the architecture of the lighting (OEM was halogen bulb, replaced with halogen bulb) and it does not make the lighting any brighter. There are multiple other websites that talk about the same issue and it seems to be an issue with the assembly and not the bulb itself.

Dec 15, 2022

Vehicle low beam headlights have grown dimmer over time. I've polished the headlight lens and replaced the low beam bulbs in an attempt to increase night driving visibility to no avail. I contacted the dealer's service department who offered no solution to the problem. Now driving at night with high beams activated as only means to provide adequate roadway lighting. This is definately a safety issue affecting nightime driving for the driver as well as oncoming vehicles. Online research finds there are numerous complaints regarding this issue among owner/operators of this vehicle.

Dec 15, 2022

Degrading headlight housing materials (reflector?) have made the car undrivable at night without use of high beams. It happened gradually over time so that it was not immediately noticeable until a road trip that required several hours of night driving. City driving at night it wasn't really noticeable until I realized how bad it had become when driving on a long rural interstate at night. Now it is obvious that the low beams are so dim that they are truly a hazard at night. I checked and it is a known issue with this model but no recall was ever issued.

Dec 12, 2022

At approximately 65-68K miles, my low beam headlights started becoming very dim. My car now has approximately 78K miles and I cannot drive at night without using my high beams. The low beams are so dim that unless I am on a lighted street or another car is riding beside me, I simply cannot see. I've replaced the bulbs and had the headlight housing cleaned to no avail. The local Acura dealer maintenance told me that Acura is aware of this problem but has not done anything to fix it because the cars are considered "old". He said it was a problem with the mirror that reflects the low beam lights outward that is getting burned out. The only fix he suggested was replacing the whole assembly which was thousands of dollars.

Dec 11, 2022

The low beam headlights are dimming and the bulb replacements or headlight cleaning aren't helping at all. It's dim to the point where the road lines are barely visible in the dark with the headlights on. I've read online that RDX 2013-2015 models have similar low beam headlight issues due to the defect in the headlight housing's reflectors. I believe this is the case for my car and this is a safety issue that the manufacturer (Acura) should be addressing. My car is available for inspections, if needed. I have not been to the dealer yet, but I can get them to verify it, if needed. My vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance or others. There is no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms. The lights have been gradually dimming over the past several years.

Dec 9, 2022

Low beam headlights very dim/unusable. My wife came very close to having what could have been a fatal accident on Dec. 8, 2022. We have replaced bulbs with original and higher intensity LED with no improvement. There are hundreds of people complaining about this same issue, one only needs to do a google search or visit one of the multiple Acura forums to validate the need for a recall!

Dec 5, 2022

Low beam headlamps very dim and no longer provide visualization of the road. Per online forums, this is a known issue.

Dec 2, 2022

The low beam headlights are not bright enough to see under normal night driving need to use high beams which is not safe

Nov 29, 2022

The headlights have gradually become so dim you can’t even see at night time. It is extremely dangerous.

Nov 21, 2022

Low beam lights lost their brightness, lenses have been polished even though that wasn’t the reason the lights are dim. Dealer looked at the problem and offered to replace the head light assembly for $2,000 plus. It’s very difficult to see the road ahead at night.

Nov 14, 2022

The headlight bulb was recently replaced and the driver side headlight it still dim. My mechanic thinks there is an issue with the lense in front of the bulb. I see online that some 2015 Acuras have been recalled for headlight issues. This recall needs to be expanded.

Nov 14, 2022

Low beam headlights unacceptably dim/dangerous. Despite a significant amount of discussions about this issue on the internet, I spoke with service department McGrath Acura in Morton Grove Illinois and they denied being aware of the issue. Have just ordered aftermarket replacement headlight assemblies for approximately $710.

Nov 12, 2022

The headlights are extremely dim resulting in poor visibility while driving at night.

Nov 9, 2022

Headlights remain dim even with new bulbs and cleaning the lens covers. They are so dim, it is a safety issue.

Nov 2, 2022

My wife and i have noticed the low beams on my RDX are extremely low, they barely light up the road. we are concerned this could be a safety hazard. i took the car to the dealership today and they confirmed "the bulbs do not project light properly. Headlight assemblies will need to be replaced" They charged me $74.50 to tell me this, and quoted me $2500 to replace the headlight assemblies. i have noticed a lot of other RDX owners concerned about this issue on the internet.

Oct 31, 2022

The headlights on our Acura have grown dangerously dim. The process happened gradually over the last few years. It is nearly impossible to see at night unless the high beams are on. The dealer advised that this is a problem for our model, but that no factory recall has been initiated by Acura. We have replaced the headlights, which did not help much at all and are now in the process of replacing the expensive headlight assembly system.

Oct 31, 2022

Both headlights are very dim making it unsafe to drive at night. I replaced the bulbs twice, but they are still too dim. Need to replace both assemblies.

Oct 30, 2022

After purchasing the car in 2018 I noticed the low beam headlights were dimmer than other vehicles I've owned but gradually, they have gotten much, much worse. I have to drive with high beams on at night or I can barely see the road in front of me. Without the high beams engaged, visibility is limited to maybe 5-10 feet in front of the vehicle with virtually no visibility to the sides of the road. I will not drive this car in the rain at night as it is even more dangerous. When I had this vehicle serviced at the dealership, I asked about the lights but was told the fix was to replace the entire light housing for both at total cost of around $2000. It has become so bad that I may have to have the light housings replaced but I feel that this issue needs to be addressed by Acura as it directly affects being able to operate the car safely at night. This is my second Acura and I'm very disappointed, especially since the problem began when I first purchased the car which was only 3 years old at the time.

Oct 20, 2022

The low beams are nearly impossible to see with while driving at night. Have heard countless other people complaining of same issue.

Oct 12, 2022

Purchased vehicle around 9/2017 and noted low headlights were not bright. I used high beam more than with other vehicles I have driven. I requested the Acura Service Dept to look at them and they changed the bulbs out. This did not help. I was still using my high beams. I requested again for them to look at the lights and Acura told me I would have to replace. I have been driving with high beams on ever since. Now it is at the point I am going to have to pay over 2,000 that they quoted me to get new headlamps. My vehicle was at 30,000 miles at purchase and now about 90,000. I am at the point I have not drove the car at night in the last few years. I did research and found this issue is common. This is a safety issue for this type of car and a recall should be done! I found your website and now making this complaint.

Oct 3, 2022

FOR MANY YEARS NOW I HAVE WONDERED WHY MY HEADLIGHTS WERE DANGEROUSLY DIM TO THE POINT THE LIGHTS WOULD ONLY LIGHT UP ABOUT 15-20 FEET AHEAD. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT IN THE RAIN IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. THERE ARE MANY WRITE UPS ABOUT THIS ISSUE FROM MANY OTHERS. THEY ALSO CLAIM TO HAVE THIS CORRECTED YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY COSTING OVER $2000 FROM THE DEALER OR LESS THAN $1000 IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF. IF YOU KNOW HOW. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE A MANUFACTURER RECALL TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE AS IT IS A DEFECT OF THIS CAR.

Sep 24, 2022

The headlights are very dim. It doesn’t happy in one day, it’s a gradual process to get worse by the day. It’s so dangerous to drive at night. Replacing bulb, cleaning do not help. It’s the whole fixture and cost so much to replace. Dealer said $1000 each. Should be recalled to fix it.

Sep 22, 2022

I purchased my 2015 Acura RDX in February 2022. You obviously don't test drive vehicles at night so I was unaware of the EXTREMELY dim headlights until a week later. I drove to the store and it was dark when I was done. As I started driving home I noticed it didn't look like my headlights were on. I had no choice but to turn the high beams on and continue home. The next day, I immediately contacted the dealership I bought my Acura from and was told my warranty doesn't cover headlights. I have had no choice on multiple occasions to drive at night. I have come an inch away from hitting a pedestrian walking with a toddler, running into a ditch and almost running off the road into a stop sign. I contacted Acura and was told there is no recall on the RDX but there is one on the RLX for the exact same issue. Why haven't the RDX's been recalled yet when they are having the SAME major headlight issues also? This is a massive safety issue. It is going to cost me over a thousand dollars to fix the issue and I've only had the vehicle for 7 months. I don't have that kind of money. I am a cashier for god sakes. I feel the ONLY way for Acura to issue a recall is for someone to get seriously hurt or even killed. Had I known about this major safety issue, I would of NEVER purchased it. Acura needs to be held accountable for this. It's NOT a wear and tear issue. It's the aluminum film on the headlight inner reflector.

Sep 12, 2022

This problem is all over the internet and Acura refuses to recall. My lights have dimmed over a period of time and now I have to run my lights on high beam to be able to see. This is a safety concern for anyone because of bright lights in faces of other drivers. This started happening about a year ago and now I can't drive my car at night. The dealer has confirmed this in other Acura vehicles as well. It will cost me over 2K to be fixed for a factory issue with headlights . This was quoted from Honda dealership in Rock Hill SC by [XXX]. There is currently a class action law suit pending because of this. Headlight low beams are dangerously dim. When driving at night the headlights are so dim it is impossible to see.

Sep 4, 2022

The low beam bulb seems to be fine. But the road is barely visible at night. Could be the reflector got damaged over the time? No warning lamps or messages.

Aug 28, 2022

Projector headlight failure. Replaced bulbs and cleaned lens and low beam is still almost non existent The reflector in the back of both projectors are disintegrated and will not reflect enough to pass inspection. New headlight assembly are in backorder which means this a reoccurring problem with the 2013, 2014, and 2015 model with the halogen bulbs.

Aug 23, 2022

Low beam headlights are extremely dim. Have replaced the bulbs, trying different brands and still very dim. This is a very dangerous car to drive at night. We drive with the high beams on in order to see the road. Started about 2 years ago with around 60K miles.

Low beams very dim due to headlight housing defect

Jul 31, 2022

I've had the vehicle since around 44 k , Purchase and shortly months later technology lighting a battery issues, someone started hacking me saying they were a car warranty services , harassment in cybersecurity daily I've had over 6-8 electrical light replacements, 2-3 battery replacements, 3 alternator replacements, hacking is daily asking me to pay brides of 1000.00 which I have never participated in, someone talks the entire time stating they are getting my information, hacked my plates, tries to control the vehicle and using cyber security. Department of justice suggested to go to acura dealer for cyber ecu reset , inquired car about the car someone hacked the car saying they are trying to steal social security benefits, and preventing employment and want to impact finances. Car was hacked and shut down had triple AAA come out to look at the vehicle which was not working was informed it was the communicator of the body throttle but would need to have dealer process and program because of computer communication to release and preform gas pedal and power train. Picture video proving the noise and item car unable to lock some one broke into the vehicle and impacted the timing belt and etc. I have documents to support but want to be cautious of hackers and would be willing to share directly for safety pre-cautions

Jul 26, 2022

Low-beam headlights are so faint, it's dangerous to drive at night. Dealer will not repair, local service station will not repair - both say that the entire front facia (bumper, grill, headlight assembly) would all have to be removed to access the headlight reflector. From your website, there have been hundreds of complaints for the same issue - what needs to be done for a recall, someone getting killed? Total farce that Acura/Honda has not stepped up to fix a $40K vehicle.

Jul 12, 2022

First noted dimming low beam headlights in Oct 2019 with ~80K mileage. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms (visual observation during nighttime driving). I replaced the OEM halogen bulbs with Sylvania SilverStar Ultra higher intensity halogen bulbs, but no discernable improvement in brightness and continued to dim over time. In Jan 2021 with ~93K mileage, I purchased and installed LED low beam bulbs which are brighter than halogen bulbs to no avail. There was no significant improvement in brightness. Dimming was now becoming a significant safety issue for night driving. In July 2022 with 110K mileage, I had independent master mechanic (not affiliated with manufacturer or dealership) check LED bulb and headlight unit alignment. The mechanic also tested a few additional bulb types all without success. The mechanic indicated that the low beam reflectors must have deteriorated and only option going forwards is to replace entire headlight units. As it was no longer safe to drive the vehicle at night, I had mechanic replace both headlights with aftermarket units with LED low beam bulbs swapped over from the defective units. I am now out of pocket for the cost of the replacement bulbs, headlight units, and installation charges due to a defective design by Honda. Reflectors should not fail during the lifetime of a vehicle irrespective of warranty and in the case of my vehicle it was well under 100K mileage. As I am sure you are aware, Honda has issued recall in Dec 2014 for 2014-2015 RLX sedans for the same issue. I have the defective headlight units in my possession for inspection upon request.

Headlights are so dim they are unsafe for driving. Replacing the bulb does not fix. Acura said I need replace both headlight assemblies because the inside of the projector lens is foggy. Cost quoted is $2255.54

Jun 25, 2022

Low beam headlights have become progressively dimmer to the point that the vehicle is unsafe to drive at night

Jun 2, 2022

My car has 80,000 miles. My headlamps do not provide adequate light to safely drive my car at night. They have gradually gotten very dim over the past 2-3 years and now I can barely see the road when I drive at night. I work 7AM-7PM so I must drive to and from work in the dark during the fall-spring. The dealer said it is $2800 to replace the headlamps. I do not have the money right now so I am putting it off and trying not to drive at night but at times it is unavoidable. Sometimes I drive with my brights on but that is dangerous to oncoming vehicles.

May 18, 2022

The headlights on this model get worse and worse each day. I've replaced the bulb but there is a more serious issue.

The reflector plate inside the sealed front headlamps has deteriorated. The headlamps no longer project enough light to drive the Acura RDX safely at night. The Acura dealership inspected the vehicle, acknowledged the problem, and will replace the two lamps for a little over $2K. It’s my understanding this occurs on model years 2013 and 2014 as well. Deterioration of the reflector plate occurs gradually over time. Therefore you don’t realize that your ability to see the road area at night is becoming worse.

My 2015 Acura RDX headlights are so dim it is dangerous to drive at night, and changing the bulbs won't help. It seems to be a common problem for many other customers with this model.

Mar 3, 2022

Over the last year or so, the halogen headlights have gradually become so dim that visibility at night is severely impaired. Dealer has tested all electrical components and the bulbs have been replaced, with no improvement in visibility. Dealer recommendation is to replace both headlight assemblies at a quoted cost over $2500. I have found other owners complaining of the same degradation of visibility with non-HID equipped models so I don't believe this to be an isolated case.

Feb 21, 2022

Front headlights have gradually gotten dimmer to the point where they are almost unsafe.

Feb 13, 2022

The headlights have gotten progressively worse over time to the point I cannot see. The light does not extend more than a feet feet and very dimly. Oncoming traffic is flashing brights at me as if i have no lights on. It is extremely dangerous and I have nearly had accidents.

Feb 4, 2022

The headlight low beams are very dim and the service manager at Acura said this is a known problem with 2015 RDX. The metal lining that projects the bulb light deteriorates and the lights go dim. The replacement cost is about $2500. Acura has agreed to pay all but $750. I think this is a safety defect worthy of a recall. Please assist me as soon as possible. It’s a major safety issue that Acura us aware of (as evidenced by their willing to cover 2/3 of the cost. I want them to cover 100% of the cost!

The contact owns a 2015 Acura RDX. The contact stated that while driving at night at an undisclosed speed, the low-beam headlights failed to illuminate as needed. The contact had to use the high-beam headlight for safe driving. The dealer and Acura of Peabody (233 Andover St, Peabody, MA 01960) were made aware of the failure, and informed the contact that the headlight assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that he would need to pay out of pocket for the headlight replacement. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Headlight delaminated causing passenger side low beam to be so dim it doesn’t look like it’s illuminating. Pulled bulb to replace to identify it illuminates just as bright as driver side. Opened a case with Acura to which they referred me to go to the dealership and if they agreed they would consider it covered. 10 min into the diagnosis the tech agreed with me. Acura then denied my case indicating this is not under warranty and no recall. $160 for a diagnosis later the issue still remains. The worst client relations I’ve ever experienced. Honda should be appalled they treat there customers this way.

RDX 2015 57, 500 miles. This is my 5th Acura . Since OCt 2021 difficult driving at night due to low beams not deflecting enough light-now cannot drive vehicle when it gets dark-UNSAFE took the car to acura dealership and service advisor stated the panel where bulb deflects and receives lights from is shattered. "This is a common defect". He stated I would need to replace the whole headlight assembly low beam panel-not only the bulbs. $2006.74 plus labor of $398.00 headlights on my vehicle dont project adequate light to see while driving at night. In my research of other vehicles of the same make, model, and year, shows that there are numerous customer complaints and issues with the functioning of the headlight assembly for the 2015 Acura RDX. The failed headlights are a big safety issue that Acura has adequately addressed.

Jan 14, 2022

The headlights are extremely dim, dangerously so. I have tried troubleshooting and the voltage at the headlamp connector is 3 volts. The fusebox and headlamp relay are 14 volts. Searching for an answer online, I find there are a myriad of other owners with the same dim headlamp problem. Dealerships seem unable to fix to the issue.

The low beam reflector surface is failing and the quality of the lighting on the road at night at standard low beam is a danger to me and to pedestrians. This almost resulted in serious injury to someone was when I was driving in the early evening last week and did not see a pedestrian walking along the side of the road until the very last second and swerved to avoid them. They were not wearing bright clothing, but I realized that it was also the fault of my headlights after a friend had driven my car and had questioned the quality of my headlights. The gradual deterioration in quality over time was something that I had come to accept, but now realize is very dangerous to me and pedestrians. I visited my local Honda dealership to ask about this and they indicated that they have had many customers ask about the quality of the lighting on these vehicles. In addition, a quick search on the internet identified a number of forums where this problem is starting to be reported more frequently and could be a danger to many people other than myself and the pedestrians on the roads around us, see for example community.cartalk.com/acura-rdx-2015-dim--headlights/180589/23

Low beam headlights shine very dimly. Can not see at night without using high beams Problem has not yet been reported to dealer. Vehicle has not yet been inspected by dealer, police or insurance representative No warning lights activated to warn about problem

Jan 7, 2022

Headlights have gotten so dim it is unsafe to drive at night. No change in brightness even after replacing the halogen bulbs with brighter than OEM version. The problem is apparently deterioration inside the headlight assembly/housing causing the light to not reflect out forward properly.

Jan 4, 2022

The current mileage on my odometer is 69,125. Over the past few weeks (last few hundred miles), I have noticed that my low beam headlights have become very dim and are continually getting dimmer. Having read MANY other complaints about this problem with this particular year model, I took my car to our local Acura dealership to be diagnosed. The findings were that the internal reflector has deteriorated and is not projecting light properly. It seems like the 2014 Acura RDX has a recall in place for this same issue but the 2015 does not. Without adequate lighting, it is nearly impossible to drive at night. I can hardly see 20 feet in front of me--a huge safety issue. My inability to see what's around me while driving in the dark is a huge liability to other motorists around me. This has forced me to only drive in daylight. If I have to drive at night, I'm forced to use my high beams which poses safety issues for others on the road. The issue has been confirmed by my local Acura dealership. I received a repair quote of $2,196.00. There are no warning lights or anything alarming me that there's an issue with the light output. I sincerely hope that you all will investigate this issue and require a recall of all 2015 Acura RDX models.

Low beam headlight projectors reflective backing has deteriorated causing loss of reflected light end result very dim low beam headlights. Obviously everyone in my vehicle or on the roadway around me is at risk of injury or death due to poor forward lighting. Problem has been confirmed by a 30 year Master ASE certified technician. Manufacturer has not inspected the vehicle but has notified me that headlamps are not a safety related component. No warning lights or messages related to this concern. This problem IS a safety concern of the highest order and the manufacturer should be held responsible for repair cost. Acura’s response to my concern has been laughable. They appear to believe they cannot be held responsible for they safety of the vehicles they produce or the injury or loss of life they may inflict. Please help resolve this issue.

Front headlights (low beams) are very dim even after replacing the bulb. This was noticed on a long drive back home during the night. While passing opposing traffic it was almost impossible to keep visibility of the lane markers and road.

we bought this Acura RDX in 2015 and noticed the headlights are dim; as we drive more often in nights recently, it becomes obvious that this kind dim headlights are very dangerous for driving in nights, particularly on high way. I was looking for repairing but was told this was all without faulty from the original equipment. I searched online and realized this was a safety problems many drivers have complained and contacted Acura dealers; unfortunately, Acura seems not like to look into this common defect. Please see the attached link of these complains. https://www.carproblemzoo.com/acura/rdx/2014/headlights-problems.php I am reaching out to you to ask for your investigation and hopeful you could force Acura to make a recall for replacement to repair. this is a serious safety issue on Acura which we liked a lot, but we are afraid driving in dark due to this big issue. it is not safe and could lead to severe injuries to many who drive it. thanks so much. When my car got to the 80000 mile mark, my headlights became progressively dimmer. I have cleaned the lens, and replaced the bulbs 3 times in the last 3 months, and now they are so bad that I don't dare drive the car at night. I googled the problem and found a whole litany of Acura RDX owners who have experienced the same problem at the same time. see: https://www.carproblemzoo.com/acura/rdx/headlights-problems.php I have contacted Acura who acknowledge that they have replaced some of the 2015 RDX headlight issues, but only if the car was built in 2014. The 2014 RDX did experience a recall for the same, exact reason. However, when I checked my VIN, they say that it doesn't qualify for the recall. This is crazy. My car cannot be driven at night, and the estimated repair for a problem due to their shoddy design/workmanship is approx $1250 per headlight! Unacceptable. At night, I noticed the low beams were very dim. Not sure of the issue I replaced with brand new bulbs, then later with brand new led bulbs. Both did not make an improvement on lighting at night. It is very difficult to see at night, crash likely is greatly increased. High beams are needed to see properly at night. 10/29/21- Told the dealer I replaced new bulbs and headlights were still dim. They quoted ~$2k to replace both headlight assemblies. Verbally they stated the projector coating wears out after a couple of years and wont reflect the light properly. Dealer customer rep stated the part did NOT undergo a revision so the new part will likely wear out in 2-3 years.

Oct 26, 2021

The projector low beam lighting is NOT providing enough light output to be safely driven at night. I did a search online and it seems this is a well-known issue among RDX owners. It looks like there were enough complaint for the 2014 RDX, but no safety recall done on the 2015 models. It is extremely dangerous to drive this vehicle at night and I hope a recall is enforce before someone gets killed due to this safety issue. Thank you.

The visibility of my headlights are so bad that I am unable to drive my car at night. At first, I thought that I was imagining it and maybe my eye sight was going bad, but my husband noticed it too. This has been going on for about 8 months or so. I didn't notice it much at first because I was not driving as much with the pandemic. The only way that I can drive my car at night is if I keep my headlights on bright the entire time which causes two safety hazards: 1. If I don't keep the headlights on high beam, I can barely see the road in front of me. 2. If I continue to shine my high beams on an oncoming car, with today's environment, I may suffer repercussions from the other driver. I did a little research and found out that quite a few owners of the 2015 RDX are experiencing the same problem once their mileage reaches 90K. I contacted the Acura Dealership and they told me that they know about the problem and the only way to fix it is to replace the entire headlight assembly at a cost to the customer of $2200. Not only don't I have this kind of money, it is not fair to me or any other customer. I purchased this car brand new and Acura needs to stand behind there product. I reached out to Acura Clients Relations over a week ago and they never returned my message. Whatever you can do to look into this problem would be greatly appreciated.

After owning my car for a few years, the front headlights began to dim. I've replaced them multiple times even with LED lights and now they are dim all the time. For example, the LED lights were installed in June and immediately there was no improvement. The car cannot be driven at night at all. It is extremely dangerous. I was told by the dealership that the 2015 base model is known to have these issues but there is nothing that can be done. How is it possible that headlights don't work on a car (to the point it can't be driven at night) but there is nothing that can be done.

Sep 19, 2021

The headlights are not bright enough to safely drive in the dark. The light is working and on and they are too dim to see safely at night.

Sep 11, 2021

low beam headlights in 2015 Acura RDX, 70,000 miles, have become dim because reflective coating in headlight assembly has failed and the light emitted from the lightbulbs is not reflected forward. The amount of light is reduced to the level that night driving is almost impossible. Must use highbeam lights instead of low beams to see road and road markings, and this is not possible in most situations with oncoming traffic. Dealer and Acura refuse warranty service to replace headlight assembly even though this is a necessary safety component.

The headlights on my 2015 RDX have become dimmer the past two years. At this point it is not safe to drive my vehilcle at night due to the lack of visibility.

Aug 20, 2021

Low beam headlights have diminished to the point where it is absolutely unsafe to drive while dark. This is a widespread problem which has resulted in many complaints with the NHTSA and other online reporting agencies. Acura has not acknowledged the issue for this make or model while other models have been recalled in the past.

I BOUGHT A USED 2015 ACURA RDX AT AN ACURA DEALERSHIP JUNE 2020 WITH LESS THAN 48K MILES. I BOUGHT IT IN AS IS CONDITION. I THOUGHT SINCE IT WAS FROM A DEALERSHIP, I THOUGHT EVERYTHING THAT NEEDED REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED. IT WAS DURING THE DAY WHEN I BOUGHT AND DIDN'T HAVE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT SEVERAL DAYS. WHEN I DROVE IT AT NIGHT I COULD BARELY SEE THE STREET, THE PASSENGER SIDE, I THOUGHT WAS NOT LIT AT ALL. THE LOW BEAM VISIBILITY WAS HORRRIBLE. I FELT I WAS IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND HAD TO DRIVE WITH HIGH BEAM ON. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP A FEW DAYS LATER AND WAS TOLD THE WHOLE HEADLIGHT UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED. I DIDN'T BELIEVE THEM THINKING THAT THEY ONLY WANT TO MAKE MONEY FROM ME. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SHOP AND HAD BOTH LOW BEAM LIGHT BULBS REPLACED. AFTER THE WORK WAS DONE THE SHOP MANAGER TOLD ME THE PASSENGER LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WAS NOT BURNED OUT AND IT WAS NOT THE BULB THAT WAS MY OROBLEM. I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY HEADLIGHT HOUSING ASSEMBLIES THE COST OF WHICH IS $800 A PIECE FOR JUST THE PARTS ALONE.

THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SO DIM NIGHT DRIVING IS IMPOSSIBLE. NEW BULBS AND LENS CLEANING HAD NO EFFECT. THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE PROJECTOR HEADLAMPS GROWING DANGEROUSLY DIM ON ACURA'S IN THIS MODEL YEAR RANGE. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND POSES AN IMMINENT THREAT TO PUBLIC SAFETY.

STARTING AROUND 100,000 MILES I NOTICED THE LOW BEAMS WERE TOO DIM. I REPLACED THE BULBS TWICE WHICH HAD NO EFFECT. I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES SO I TRIED TO LIMIT MY DRIVING TO DAYTIME, OTHERWISE I HAD TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS TO SEE SAFELY. NOW MY VEHICLE HAS 135,000 MILES AND THE LIGHTS GOT WORSE TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT DANGER TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND I NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. I SEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THE INTERNET IS FULL OF ACURA OWNERS WITH COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY THING. ACURA KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND ACTUALLY RECALLED THE 2014 RDX BECAUSE OF IT, BUT NOT THE 2015. I APPEALED TO ACURA TO ASK THEM TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND THEY SAID NO, CITING 1) TOO MANY MILES ON THE CAR (HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT A PART THAT SHOULD BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO WEAR AND TEAR .....I HAD A TOYOTA WITH 300,000 MILES THAT NEVER NEEDED A HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THIS ANSWER HOLDS NO MERIT 2) I DIDN'T HAVE MY CAR SERVICED BY ACURA DEALERSHIP. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE TO PERFECTION THROUGH MY OWN MECHANIC AND WOULD NEVER PAY THE RIDICULOUS EXORBITANT FEES THE DEALERS CHARGE. JUST BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE MY CAR SERVICED WITH THE DEALER DOESN'T MEAN I DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF MY CAR. 3) THEY DON'T RECOGNIZE THIS AS A SAFETY CONCERN. I'M INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED AT ACURAS RESPONSE TO THIS. THIS IS MY FIRST ACURA AND WILL CERTAINLY BE MY LAST. THEY HAVE A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY TURN A BLIND EYE TO IT. WOULD THEY ONLY TAKE ACTION WHEN SOMEONE IS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT? ACURA NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND RECALL THIS MAKE AND MODEL. AND THEN THEY NEED TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES BECAUSE OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS SEEM TO HAVE FIGURED IT OUT. MAYBE THEY SHOULD CONSULT WITH TOYOTA

PURCHASED VEHICLE USED AT 107,000 MILES. THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE DIMMER THAN THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN THE DARK. THE FIRST TIME I DROVE IT BEFORE SUN UP I PULLED OVER AN WALKED TO THE FRONT TO SEE IF THEY WERE ON. THE ILLUMINATION IS INADEQUATE WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED OR IN MOTION. APPARENTLY THE REFLECTOR MATERIAL HAS DETERIORATED IN THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING SO REPLACING THE BULBS WON'T RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THESE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES SHOULD BE RECALLED.

THE LIGHT THAT DOES SHOW IS YELLOWISH AND NOT BRIGHT AT ALL. OTHER CARS HAVE STOPPED ME THREE TIMES TO ASK IF I ACTUALLY HAD LIGHTS TURNED ON. I AM AT 115,000 MILES NOW, AND BEGAN NOTICING IT AT 90K. HAS 125K MILES AND IT APPEARS ITS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ACURAS OF THIS YEAR AND MODEL. BULB CHANGE DOES NOTHING.

THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON THIS CAR ARE DANGEROUSLY DIM. I REPLACED THE HALOGEN BULBS TWICE AND EVEN DID A THIRD REPLACEMENT USING LED BULBS. NOTHING HELPS. I SEE MANY, MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS HERE. THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF SOMETHING ISN'T DONE. IT'S CLEARLY A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. ACURA HAS ALREADY RECALLED SIMILAR MODELS. THE NEED TO DO A RECALL ON THE 2015 RDX TOO!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 ACURA RDX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO PROVIDE PROPER ILLUMINATION FOR SAFE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE FAILURE FIRST OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ACURA OF FREMONT (5700 CUSHING PKWY, FREMONT, CA 94538, WHERE THE HEADLIGHTS BULBS WERE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE ALMOST RAN OFF OF THE ROAD SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THE DIMNESS OF THE HEADLIGHTS. THE CONTACT CALLED ACURA OF MODESTO (4325 MCHENRY AVE, MODESTO, CA 95356), AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT PART OF A RECALL AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATED 96,217.

LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE VERY DIM ON MY ACURA RDX. IT'S VERY HARD TO SEE THE ROAD AT NIGHT AND AS SUCH IT IS UNSAFE FOR DRIVING AT NIGHT. I HAVE HAD THE BULBS REPLACED TWICE AND THE LENSES PROFESSIONALLY BUFFED. THE ACURA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY CANNOT REPAIR AND WOULD NEED TO REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES AT A RIDICULOUS COST. NO PROBLEMS WITH HIGH BEAMS, ONLY LOW BEAM.

THE HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT SUFFICIENTLY BRIGHT TO LIGHT UP THE ROAD OR ROAD SIGNS. THE DEALER IS FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM BUT DOESN'T HAVE A SOLUTION TO OFFER. THE LIGHT COVERS ARE CLEAR WITH NO FOGGING.

: THIS IS MY FOURTH ACURA VEHICLE. (98 INTEGRA/2010 RDX/2010 TSX) AND NOW A CPO 2015 RDX. THE VEHICLE IN THE DAYLIGHT, IS EXCELLENT. HOWEVER, THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS ILLUMINATES IS EXTREMELY POOR, ALMOST DANGEROUS. THE DEALER IS VERY GOOD AND THEY HAVE STATED THEY KNOW ITS AN ISSUE, AS THE FOIL IS NOT REFLECTIVE ENOUGH. THE LENS' ARE CRYSTAL CLEAR, SO THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY DAUGHTER, WHO IS A NEW DRIVER, AND TRIED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT AND CAME BACK TERRIFIED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO SEE WELL AT VS. OUR 2017 OUTBACK. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS AS IT CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE.

MY HEADLIGHTS ARE TOO DIM TO SAFELY DRIVE ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT (EITHER POOR MATERIALS OR POOR WORKMANSHIP). THERE IS ZERO VISIBILITY AT NIGHT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH A RECALL FOR THE SAME YEAR VEHICLE OF THE RLX, THE RDX HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED FOR UNKNOWN REASONS ALTHOUGH IT HAS THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE.

IN JULY 2019 I REALIZED THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS WERE LIT BUT DID NOT EMIT ENOUGH LIGHT TO SEE AT NIGHT. THE HOUSING COVER IS CLEAR. I THOUGHT I HAD AN EYE PROBLEM FOR AT LEAST A YEAR PRIOR BUT MY EYE DOCTOR WAS SAYING I HAD 20/20 VISION WITH MY GLASSES.. TWO ACURA DEALERSHIPS, AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP, AND AN AUTO PARTS STORE COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. ACURA CLIENT RELATIONS SAID THE DAMAGE WAS UV RAYS. THEY ALL SAY BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND CANNOT BE FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT REPLACED THE BULBS WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. THERE IS NO CLOUDINESS OR LIQUID IN THE ASSEMBLY. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE THE CAR AFTER DUSK IN OVER A YEAR.THE STATES ATTRNY OFFICE COULD NOT RESOLVE.

LLOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE DIMMED OVER TIME (CAR WAS JUST OVER 4 YEARS OLD) TO THE EXTENT THAT IT IS NO LONGER SAFE TO OPERATE VEHICLE AT NIGHT WITHOUT USING HIGH BEAM LIGHTS. REPLACING BULBS DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. DEALER AND DSM REP AGREE THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT WILL ONLY REPAIR FOR OVER $1,000. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR SIMILAR ISSUE ON DIFFERENT MODEL. MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THIS ISSUE.

LIGHT OUTPUT OF 2015 ACURA RDX IS VERY LOW DUE TO BAD FOIL IN PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS. I HAVE SWTICHED BULBS BUT THAT DID NOT MAKE MUCH DIFFERENT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH POOR VISIBILITY. I TALKED TO ACURA DEALER AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE IT SINCE THERE IS NOT RECALL FOR THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE.

THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE GOTTEN STEADILY DIMMER OVER THE LAST YEAR. MY LIGHTS ARE SO DIM, PEOPLE ASK ME IF THEY ARE ON. ON ROADS WITH STREET LIGHTS, I CAN'T TELL THE LIGHTS ARE ON AND ON UNLIT COUNTRY ROADS, I CAN BARELY SEE THEY ARE WORKING. I SPENT OVER $100 REPLACING THE BULBS WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. IN MY RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH A REFLECTIVE AREA INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY THAT AFFECTS THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE BULBS. I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED ON A ANOTHER ACURA MODEL ABOUT THE SAME AGE. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WHICH COST OVER $1,000 EACH. THE GLASS COVER OVER THE FRONT OF THE HEADLIGHT IS NOT FOGGED OR YELLOWED WITH AGE LIKE SOME CARS GET. I DON'T HAVE ANY PICTURES OR DOCUMENTS THAT WOULD HELP. THIS IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND BUT I WILL GLADLY TRY TO PROVIDE ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HELP.

FACTORY HEADLAMPS ARE COMPLETELY INSUFFICIENT FOR NIGHT DRIVING, EXTREMELY DIM. REPLACEMENT BULBS HAVE LITTLE TO NO EFFECT IN IMPROVING THIS. ACURA OFFERS NO SOLUTION.

MY LOW BEAMS ARE VERY DIM. THE ORIGINAL HALOGEN H11 BULBS WERE YELLOW SO I REPLACED WITH SYLVANIA SILVERSTAR ZXE'S. ALTHOUGH LIGHT NOW IS WHITE NOT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. HAD A MECHANIC INSPECT LIGHTS AND WAS TOLD SOME KIND OF FOREIGN SUBSTANCE IS ON THE BACK OF PROJECTOR LENS AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE FINGER PRINTS ON THE FRONT. POSSIBLY POOR QUALITY WHEN ASSEMBLED. TOOK VEHICLE TO ACURA WAS TOLD THE SAME THING BUT CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY WITH NO EXTENDED COVERAGE THEY WOULD REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES FOR $1900. IT APPEARS OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING SAME ISSUE. WITH RECALLS ON ILX AND RLX FOR SAME LOW BEAM DIM LIGHT ISSUE. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE CURRENTLY WITH LOW BEAM ONLY. HAD FOG LIGHTS INSTALLED USE ALL THE TIME TO BE ABLE TO SEE.

THE HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH TO PASS STATE SAFETY INSPECTION AND IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT DUE TO LIMITED VISIBILITY. AFTER REPLACING THE LIGHTBULBS WITH NO CHANGE AND THEN CLOSELY INSPECTING THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, BOTH THE SAFETY INSPECTOR TECHNICIAN AND ACURA SERVICE CENTER SAID IT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE MATERIAL WHICH HAS CAUSED DAMAGE INSIDE PART OF THE HOUSING. THE ONLY OPTION TO FIX THE ISSUE IS TO REPLACE THE ASSEMBLY WHICH COSTS OVER $1300 JUST FOR ONE SIDE. I CONTACTED ACURA CLIENT SERVICES ABOUT MY 2015 RDX SAFETY ISSUE AND RECEIVED NO HELP EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE VEHICLE RECALLS FOR WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM. (2014-2015 ACURA ILX RECALL 14V323000 AND 2014-2015 ACURA RLX RECALL15V301000 ) THERE ARE ALSO MANY COMPLAINTS AND POSTS BY OTHER ACURA RDX OWNERS IN ACURAZINE AND OTHER VEHICLE FORUMS ABOUT WEAK HEADLIGHTS AND THE DANGER THEY CREATE WHEN DRIVING. THIS SHOULD BE INSPECTED IMMEDIATELY.

Oct 22, 2019

MY 2015 RDX IS JUST OVER 5 YEARS OLD AND THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SO FOGGED OVER THAT IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND I NEED TO REPLACE THEM. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE ISSUE AND WAS QUOTED OVER $800 EACH TO REPLACE THEM. (OVER $1600 TOTAL) THE DEALER TRIED SOME CLEANER/POLISH ON THEM BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. I'VE ALSO SPENT MULTIPLE HOURS USING A HEADLIGHT RESTORATION KIT TO TRY TO IMPROVE THIS ISSUE TO NO AVAIL. I'VE WRITTEN ACURA AND THEY SAID THEY WON'T COVER THIS SINCE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT'S DUE TO "EXTERIOR INFLUENCES". MAYBE THIS TYPE OF FOGGING CAN OCCUR BUT IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN OVER THIS SHORT OF A TIME FRAME. I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THIS OCCURRED BUT FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM ABOUT 8 WEEKS AGO. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS SINCE IT'S TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT NIGHT OR IN OTHER LIMITED VISIBILITY CONDITIONS. *JS

THE REFLECTIVE MATERIAL IN THE HEADLIGHTS HAS DETERIORATED TO THE POINT THAT NIGHT TIME DRIVING IS HAZARDOUS. I HAVE REPLACED THE REGULAR BULB AND IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE, I THEN REPLACED THE REG BULB WITH AN LED LIGHT AND IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. WITHOUT A GOOD REFLECTOR SURFACE, THE LIGHT WILL NOT SAFELY FUNCTION. REPLACEMENT COSTS ARE WELL OVER $1,200 AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS POOR CHOICE IN REFLECTIVE MATERIAL IN THE 2015 RDX HEADLIGHTS. THE RXL 2014 MODEL WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT THE SAME PROBLEM IS WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING. I CAN NO LONGER SAFELY DRIVE AT NIGHT UNLESS I TURN ON THE BRIGHT LIGHTS WHICH WILL BLIND THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND ALSO IS NOT SAFE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A DEFECTIVE HEADLIGHT ON THIS VEHICLE.
