Back windshield glass exploded with no impact. Car was not moving. There is shattered glass everywhere and the car cannot be driven until it is repaired. This appears to be a well known issue but there is no official recall at this time. My Acura dealer said this was covered in warranty that expired in November. The incident happened December 13, 2025.
Back windshield shattered and blew out with zero impact. Car was parked Manufacturer denies responsibility . Independent company repaired because dealer was booked and needed fixed quickly. No one injured glass all over back of car and trapped in base of doo now because of faulty design. No warnings at all.
1:Sunroof frame shifts creating a popping noise during certain driving conditions. Turning and going up a drive way. 2:Distracting for the driver and passengers stay concerned the whole time. 3:There is a service bulletin with Acura 23-004 but no recall to the matter. 4: Unknown 5:No warning lamps
I had found a leak coming from my 2021 Acura RDX early November. I took it into the dealership December 1st to get it diagnosed and they stated that the transmission and transfer case needs to get replaced. du The problem has been confirmed by the Bloomington Acura dealership on December 1st 2025. After doing research online it looks like this has happened to multiple people with different Acura Models, including newer models of RDX, TLX and MDX. No warning lamps, messages or failures appeared. Just oil leaking beneath the vehicle. It looks like Acura is aware of the issue. The metal shavings from the splines between the transmission and transfer case is destroying the seal. Causing the oil leak hence a new transmission and transfer case.
Complaint Summary I am filing this complaint regarding American Honda Motor Corp’s handling of a warranty claim on my 2021 Acura RDX. Despite being within the 4-year/50,000-mile warranty, I was denied full coverage for a well-documented defect: condensation/moisture in both headlight housings with no external damage. •Dealer (Rick Case Acura, Sunrise FL) confirmed the condition. •Technician Francisco documented internal moisture, no external damage. •Service Manager Wade Bell submitted goodwill request [XXX], which was approved at 70% only. •My out-of-pocket responsibility was ~$1,400. •I requested full coverage from American Honda, consistent with Acura’s warranty obligations and known issues with these headlight assemblies. On a recorded call, American Honda repeatedly stated my request was denied, refused to provide a written denial, and declined to issue a case reference number directly. Only after reviewing an email did I locate the case number ([XXX]). This refusal to document their denial is highly concerning. ________________________________________ Timeline of Events •[XXX]: Moisture first observed after rain; confirmed by dealer technician. •Dealer Request: Goodwill [XXX] approved at 70%. •Repairs Completed: Both headlights replaced; repair order available. •Sep 2025: American Honda denied my appeal verbally on recorded call; refused written denial. ________________________________________ Manufacturer Guidance Ignored Importantly: American Honda’s own dealer service bulletin (2023) regarding 2019–2021 Acura RDX headlamps explicitly instructs dealers to: •“Create an iN case number (via AcuraLink/Dealer iN) when moisture or condensation is observed inside RDX headlamp housings with no external damage present.” •“Submit for goodwill/warranty replacement of the affected headlamp assemblies.” This vehicle falls squarely within that guidance: a 2021 RDX, <4 years old, <50k miles, with moisture documented by the dealer. Drove into parking lot and as I was pulling into the parking spot next to the building, the vehicle started to surge forward as if I had my foot on the gas instead of the brake. The sudden surge caused the vehicle to plow into a brick building causing about $10K damage to the vehicle and $5K to the building. This was not the first time this sudden surging occurred. It happened at least 3 times previously, and one time since. Fortunately, the other occurrences did not lead to any damages, but just some anxious moments. I took the vehicle to the dealership to get checked out after the last occurrence, but they said they couldn't duplicate it. I thought it might be some sort of "unknown" problem, until I started reading on Facebook and other internet websites of other people having the same scary "surging" engine issues. I believe there's more to it now, and an investigation is warranted.
While accelerating off the entrance ramp onto the highway, The engine randomly slows down automatically…the car reduced speed drastically without applying brakes and without cars around me or in front of me.
Rear window shattered without any certain impact due to a manufactured known defect. While I was driving the window shattered and all glass when flying every where. I contacted the dealer and the Acura corporate and they don’t want to know anything about it. I have my car sitting in my parking g lot because I don’t have $1000 to pay to replace my rear window. Right now there is a class action lawsuit to Acura due to this issue but nobody is taking responsibility for this incident. I will appreciate if you can look into this because it is very dangerous and it can cause a big accident.
I took my 2021 Acura RDX to Pohanka Acura Service, Chantilly, VA 20151 after I noticed broken rear door weather strips on both sides which is very unusual for a new car. Dealer said it is not covered under warranty. Then I got them replaced by paying the full price for this to the dealer. I contacted the corporate HondaUSA for reimbursement for this issue and they said it would not cover under warranty. Even after they replaced the old weather strips with the new ones, I noticed same issue but at other location (weather strips were not attached to the doors at the corner). I took it back to the dealer again to fix and they said they cannot fix it as all RDX have same thing and they showed me some new RDX and I found the same issue in that car also. I am concerned whether these gaps will cause any problem due outside rain, wind, dust etc.
My sunroof exploded for no reason while traveling at highway speeds. Fortunately my sunshade was closed preventing shattered glass from entering the cabin which could have injured me. Shattered glass also damaged the paint on top of my vehicle which will require repainting. The noise made by the glass exploding startled me and could have caused an accident in addition to the glass that flew off of the vehicle endangering vehicles behind me.
Panoramic sunroof has made popping noise when pulling into driveways 4/5 times within 3 weeks of owning vehicle. Have taken to dealer twice and they claim they cant replicate issue. I have recorded this noise during driving and shown to dealer but they refuse to fix. They have knowledge of issue and issued technical service bulletin requiring new sunroof and bolts because the current sunroof bolts and frame can not support its weight when vehicle flexes. Glass is at risk of shattering during vehicle operation.
Sunroof exploded! My wife was driving her Acura RDX on [XXX] in Sunroof exploded! My wife was driving her Acura RDX on [XXX] in Tucson Heading East to Vail Arizona, when she heard a loud pop--I heard it to as I was on the phone with her. My wife noticed a gush of air and cars behind her swerving dangerously as the sunroof glass exploded out spraying glass all over cars following behind her. There was no inclement weather conditions. Nothing impacted the glass, the glass exploded out. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Approximately on 2/10/2024 shortly after i added my 2021 Acura to my auto policy my insurance co. GEICO notified me about the open recall. Nobody else has notified me on the open recall. I just purchased the vehicle on [XXX] from Autonation Acura In Torrance California. The recall notice Says "there is no remedy availableI" i purchased this beautiful CPO vehicle and I put $20,000 cash ( debit card) as a down payment and I had to pay additional costs for the extended 9 yr. warranty. I financed the rest. The vehicle price was $31.000 with 20.000 miles on it. The total costs $44.000. I haven't even made my first payment yet which is due february 20, 2024. My interest rate is high 8.99 is the rate and I have excellent credit. I've only put 20 miles or less on the car since I bought it. My auto Insurance Company now recommended that I do not drive it. My auto insurance could possibly go up in cost as well. I have not drove the car since I learned of the recall. I want my money back and I want to return the vehicle. Since purchasing this vehicle new in August, 2020, I have noticed intermittent loud "popping" noises coming from the sunroof. This typically happens when driving over an uneven portion of the road and sounds like the glass is going to break. I am reporting this now because I have read numerous similar complaints by other RDX owners where in some cases, the glass has actually imploded.
I’d like to report an issue with this vehicle’s app companion, AcuraLink. AcuraLink is the official app offered by Acura, which delivers features that allow an owner to control and manage their vehicle remotely. I use the app for remote smart. On 1/17 at approximately 8am, I opened the app and sent a command to start the vehicle. The command failed, and I received a failure message to indicate this. I tried three more times, each time receiving a failure message, so I gave up and manually started the car. Approximately 45 minutes later, the car was back in our attached garage, with the ignition off, and our garage door shut. I suddenly heard the car start while in the garage. I went out, shut the car off, and went back inside. Over the course of 30 minutes or so, the car started two more times, in my attached garage with the door shut. This is an extremely dangerous scenario due to the potential of carbon monoxide and dioxide exposure. If this had happened in the middle of the night, I would not have heard the car running in the garage. This may have resulted in grave consequences for my family. It was as though the app continued to send commands to the car even after failure errors were received by the operator. I reported the issue immediately to Acura and have heard nothing back. I searched for similar stories on the social media site Reddit under the Acura group, and found multiple Acura owners reporting the same issue.
The panoramic sunroof exploded on our Acura RDX model 2021. Me, my wife and our 3 month old son were returning from dinner, we took the ramp and about to merge on a highway then we heard a loud and sudden explosive noise which scared all of us. Thank God we had the sunroof blind partially closed over the real infant seat, so the glass shatters left some minor cuts on my left forearm and back (glass pieces got between my back and driving seat). Also, the glass pieces did cut the sunroof blind/rolling cloth screen. We are glad that we made home safe and not sure what is the process of getting the issue fixed by the manufacturer and thorough cleaning up of the glass remains/dust. Please advise.
This morning (09/20/2023) - I was driving on the interstate (I-78 in Mississippi) - I heard a large bang/explosion and then began hearing external noise. I thought a tire on a vehicle nearby had blownout but realized the traffic near me was not slowing down. I pulled off the interstate and inspected my tires. Discovered all my tires were fine, but realized I could still hear the road. I discovered that my sunroof had exploded/shattered. I had not heard anything hit it or seen any debris flying through the air prior. Thank goodness my fabric divider was on and I did not have the sunroof open at the time - glass shards would have been all on me and throughout my car.
On 10/2/2022 the rear glass shattered on my RDX for no reason. It was parked in the driveway. Safelight replaced the glass but was unable to get the glass out of the tailgate and shards were being randomly released. I then had the entire tailgate/glass replaced with original Acura tailgate/glass. On 5/7 /2023 the glass shattered again for no reason. Parked in the garage with door closed. I attached pics of both incidents. The last two pictures are from the 10/2 incident.
My Telemetrics Control Unit failed on Acura update. This is part of the system that calls for Emergency help when involved with a crash. I t was identified at an Acura dealership and the part was ordered. It is on back order now for over a month with no known delivery date
On NOV 20th 2021 took the vehicle for Oil change, to Acura dealer. The service tech informed me the hood its not opening. The latch or cable its broken. The part its not in stock. I can't open the hood to check all necessary fluids, especially windshield washer fluid. I think its safety concern when I'm out of washer.
Driving on the highway and suddenly the moonroof imploded. Luckily no other cars nearby and did not go through an underpass when this occurred. No signs of any impact to cause this from remaining glass. Waiting for Acura dealership to assess damage but told me the part was backordered due to this happening with multiple vehicles.
I purchased a 2021 Acura RDX new. The car makes loud cracking/popping sounds from the panoramic sunroof when driving over uneven pavement, particularly at an angle such as, entering or leaving a driveway. This has occurred since new. It consistently makes the sounds when cold, like backing out of the driveway and over the curb first thing in the morning. It is inconsistent after first having made the sound but, will still make the sounds under the right conditions. I have reported the issue to Acura dealer service and to Acura Client Relations, with no resolution. Many have reported similar issues on an Acura owners blog.
All sound warnings are very low and impossible to hear them especially with the music on. The volume is very low and will not override the music volume. The warning volume is very low and driver can’t increase the volume. Especially the blind spot warning on the right side, if you miss it, it’s an accident sure to happen. Acura can change this with a simple software update but they keep ignore my requests. Hopefully you, the consumer advocate, can convince them to do the software update. Let’s make it safer for all and save some lives.
Brand new 2021 Acura RDX panoramic sunroof exploded less than 2 weeks after purchase. I was driving when all the sudden, out of nowhere, there was a loud pop/explosion sound. I immediately pulled over and inspected the but didn't find anything. Not one scratch or dent anywhere. It wasn't until I was getting back in the car, and heard the sound of glass slowly shattering, that I realized it was the sunroof. Nothing external hit the car to cause the explosion/shatter. I was the only car on the road when it happened...no cars in front of, behind or beside me. The road was smooth and I hadn't driven over any bumps. Thankfully, the sun shade closed so no one in the car was injured.
BOTH MYSELF AND HUSBAND HAVE HEARD KNOCK OR LOUD POP SOUND. ONE LOUD KNOCK OR TWO WITH SLIGHT LEVEL CHANGE SUCH AS ENTERING OR LEAVING DRIVEWAY. MANY OTHER ACURA RDX OWNERS HAVE REPORTED SAME ISSUE. APPEARS TO BE FLEXING OF PANORAMIC SUNROOF. MY VEHICLE IS ONE WEEK OLD (WAS COURTESY VEHICLE) 2021 ACURA RDX. IN SHOP NOW. MANY HAVE REPORTED SERVICE ISSUES WITH NO RESOLUTION THROUGH DEALERSHIP OR ACURA. SEVERAL OWNERS HAVE ADDED ISSUES WITH SUNROOF LEAKING AND EVEN BLOW OUT OF SUNROOF WINDOW.
