While I was driving 55 mph, on the throttle, the transmission acted as it was in Neutral but all indicators verified it was in Drive. The RPMs were fluctuating during this & my car wouldn't accelerate. I was in the middle of a busy highway, the car came to a stop, I shifted it into Park, then tried to engage back into Drive with no success. In the middle of oncoming & ongoing HWY traffic, I turned the car off, back on & the car acted as if it was in limp mode. The VSA light & Triangle appeared. I had to pay get a towing service to get me & my car. It never had any transmission issues before & all of a sudden it did all of the above, erratic shifting, flare up shifts, won't move. It was then put on a diagnostic scanner which showed a code for Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid but was cleared & didn't reappear. After the car has been sitting for a while (days) you can crank it, put it into drive & it is hesitant to go & will drive ONLY for a few minutes. After the transmission heats up, it stops pulling. I have read numerous complaints, safety concerns, bulletins, etc. I am devastated & lost on what's going on with the car & what can be done. I purchased my '05 TL in 2022 & haven't been able to drive it but for one & a half years. I've put so much money into the repairs & maintenance. I replaced the rear & front motor mounts, transmission speed sensor, transmission position sensor, etc. I am now disabled & don't have the means to put into it anymore. I pray there's an investigation behind these Drive train safety concerns!

Transmission locked up while attempting to backup. Very loud grinding noise. Could not place back in park. Had to shut off engine to free shifter to move back to park. Tried again but this time placed in drive. Exact same results. Checked internet and apparently transmission on this year and others before and after are know problems. Googleand you will see this. POSSIBLE CATASTROPHIC INCIDENT - What would have been the end result having the transmission fail while on the freeway going 60 mph. Possibly could loose control of the vehicle with wheels locking up, cashing into another vehicle or a wall? This should be investigated! THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO REMOVE COMPLAINT, BUT STATED THE DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED THE FRONT AXLE WAS BROKEN.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR OUT OF NOWHERE IT LOST POWER THIS THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENS. ITS REALLY SCARY BECAUSE THE LAST TIME I HAD MY BABY WITH ME AND THAT HAPPENED. I HAD TO PARK AND TURN OFF THE CAR ALSO WHEN I REVERSE IT TAKES LONG TO CHANGE GEAR.

I WAS BACKING OUT OF A SPOT, AS I USUALLY DO, THE CAR TOOK LONGER THAN USUAL TO SHIFT FROM PARK INTO DRIVE (ABOUT 3-4 SEC). DROVE NORMALLY FOR ABOUT A HALF-MILE, STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WENT TO ACCELERATE, AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T COME OUT OF 1ST GEAR AND REVVED SUPER HIGH. PULLED OVER, THEN DROVE TO MY MECHANIC ABOUT A HALF-MILE BACK AT ABOUT 8-10 MPH WITH MY CAUTION LIGHTS ON. HE TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND SAID IT SEEMED FINE (I.E. THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T SLIP), BUT WHAT I EXPLAINED TO HIM SOUNDED LIKE THE ONSET OF TRANSMISSION FAILURE). HE SUGGESTED SOMETHING COULD HAVE GOTTEN LODGED IN THERE AND BLOCKED FLUID FLOW, AND WHEN I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND HE STARTED IT, THAT IT COULD HAVE FALLEN OUT BEFORE HIS TEST DRIVE. EVER SINCE "THE INCIDENT" THE TRANSMISSION IS VERY SLOW UP-SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND MAKES A NOISE WHEN DOING SO, AND ALSO IS VERY SLOW SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE, OR REVERSE TO DRIVE. MY CAR HAS ABOUT 162,000 MILES ON IT. AS OF NOW, NOTHING HAS BEEN REPAIRED ON IT, AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AS THIS OFTEN CAUSES TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN THESE VEHICLES AROUND THIS MILEAGE.

I LEFT MY CAR TO GET MY PHONE WHILE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, TRANSMISSION IN PARKING AND DOOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE OPEN. LESS THAN 2 MINUTES LATER WHEN I RETURNED MY CAR WAS GONE. LOOKING AROUND, I SAW MY CAR AT LEAST 30 YARDS DOWNHILL FROM THE DRIVEWAY LODGED AGAINST AN F450 TRUCK. MY CAR - I ASSUME IN PARKING MODE - CLIMBED UP ON THE DRIVEWAY INCLINE, HIT A GARBAGE BIN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD, MADE A 180 DEGREE RIGHT TURN, TRAVELING IN REVERSE DIRECTION CRUSHED IN TO THE PARKED TRUCK'S LEFT SIDE FENDER AND BUMPER (THE TRUCK WAS PARKED ON THE ONCOMING SIDE OF THE ROAD).. THE DAMAGE TO THE TRUCKS FENDER WAS A SMALL DENT AND SCRAPED OFF PAINT ON THE BUMPER. I FOUND MY CAR'S TRUNK LID SEVERELY DENTED, AND THE REAR BUMPER ALSO DENTED AND SLID TO THE SIDE. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2005 ACURA TL FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE NOTICED A FRONT END VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING ON THE HWY BETWEEN 65-80 MPH. THE ORIGINAL OWNER PUT ON THE VEHICLE NEW TIRES AND NEW BRAKES AT 62,000 MILES. I JUST PUT ON NEW ROTORS AND I EVEN HAD A HIGH SPEED WHEEL BALANCE ON ALL TIRES WHEN I STARTED TO FEEL THE VIBRATION AT 62,500 MILES. ON 9/15/09, WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT IN A PARKING GARAGE AT WORK, MY 2005 ACURA TL ACCELERATED (ON ITS OWN) AND CRASHED INTO THE CONCRETE BARRIER CAUSING THE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR MAT WAS NOT STUCK UNDER THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS COASTING INTO THE PARKING SPACE WHEN THE CAR "TOOK OFF" AND ACCELERATED INTO THE BARRIER IN FRONT OF THE GARAGE WALL. FOR ABOUT THE LAST TWO YEARS OR SO, THE TRANSMISSION ON MY CAR WOULD REGULARLY CAUSE THE CAR TO ACCELERATE FOR A SHORT TIME RIGHT AFTER THE GAS PEDAL IS PUSHED. IT "JERKS' FORWARD WHEN GOING AT LOW SPEEDS. IT HAPPENS REGULARLY/DAILY. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF MY ACURA DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. AFTER THE ACCIDENT ABOVE, I TOLD THEM TO CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME NOTHING IS WRONG. THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT HONDA FOUND THE FLUID TO BE GOOD AND SAID "THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT NEED SERVICE... HAVE IT CHECKED AT APPROXIMATELY 62,000MILES, WHICH WE DID. WE HAD THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FLUSHED AND THE FLUID REPLACED AT APPROXIMATELY 62,000 MILES. THE CAR IS A 2005 ACURA TL. IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY WITH APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN A NEARBY MOTORIST DIRECTED US TO PULL OVER. APPARENTLY THERE WAS SMOKE FUMING FROM THE VEHICLE. AT THAT POINT THERE WERE SEVERE POWER FLUCTUATIONS AND THE CAR REV'D OVER 5000 RPMS. THE TRANSMISSION HAD DISCHARGED A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF FLUID AND NEARLY CAUGHT ON FIRE. WE HAD THE VEHICLE ASSESSED INDEPENDENTLY AND THEN AT THE ACURA DEALERSHIP IN MONTCLAIR. BOTH FOUND THE TRANSMISSION TO BE COMPLETELY BURNT AND INOPERABLE. THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE ACURA TL TRANSMISSION THAT CAN LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AND/OR CAR FIRES. *TR

I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY, AND I CALLED AAA TO TOW MY CAR. THE COMPANY THAT TOWED MY CAR HAD INSPECTED MY CAR THE FOLLOWING DAY AND INFORMED ME THAT I WAS IN NEED OF A NEW TRANSMISSION. I HAD THEN CALLED AAMCO IN MAHOPAC, NY, THAT SPECIALIZES IN TRANSMISSIONS, TO GET A SECOND OPINION. AFTER MAKING A TRANSCAN, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED, WHERE IT CAUSED A GREAT AMOUNT OF HEAT AFFECTING THE TURBINE ASSEMBLY CAUSING THE GEARS AND CONVERTER CLUTCH TO BREAK DOWN. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN MANY CARS MADE BY HONDA AND ACURA. THEREFORE, I AM RESPECTFULLY ASKING YOUR ORGANIZATION TO INVESTIGATE IF THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR, WHICH I PURCHASED AT 25,000 MILES, AND WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED, IT HAPPENED AT 75,000, WHERE I WAS DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

THE AUTOMOBILE HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITH AN INTERMITTENT SHIFTING PROBLEM. SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR CAN RESULT IN PARTIAL ENGAGEMENT AND "POP OUT" OF THE SHIFT RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER AND DECELERATION. WHEN THIS OCCURS ON ACCELERATION IN TRAFFIC, A NEAR ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED AS THE CAR HAS SLOWED DOWN IN MERGING TRAFFIC. THE AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURER HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN (08-018) THAT REQUIRES THE DEALER/SERVICE PROVIDER TO "DRIVE A KNOWN-GOOD VEHICLE" AND COMPARE WITH THE CLIENT'S VEHICLE, AND REPLACE TRANSMISSION PARTS IF NOTICEABLE SHIFT QUALITY DIFFERENCES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 ACURA TL. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND SHIFTING INTO THIRD GEAR, THE VEHICLE POPPED OUT OF GEAR AND APPROXIMATELY 15% OF THE TIME IT WOULD NOT SHIFT AT ALL. THE DEALER CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WHICH REMEDIED THE ISSUE FOR A MONTH. HE WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO REFUSED TO ASSIST HIM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,000. UPDATED 07/15/08 *BF THE GEAR BOX DID NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY INTO 3RD GEAR. I WISH TO REPORT THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE CLUTCH OF A 6-SHIFT STANDARD 2005 ACURA TL [XXX]. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 6,000 MILES AND LESS THAN ONE YEAR OF MODERATE USE. WHILE GOING UP A HILL IN A THREE LANE EXPRESSWAY, I LOST THE TORQUE TO THE WHEELS AND THE CAR ENDED ON NEUTRAL, FORCING ME TO MAKE A DANGEROUS MANEUVER TO PARK THE CAR ON THE SHOULDER OF THE EXPRESSWAY. UPON OPENING THE HOOD, IT WAS EVIDENT THAT THE CLUTCH HAD BURNED OUT. I UNDERSTAND THAT FAILURE IN MATERIAL OR WORKMANSHIP WAS THE CAUSE OF THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AT EXPRESSWAY SPEEDS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
