I am filing a complaint in regard to recall 93c for my 2017 Alfa Romeo. The dealership/manufacturer has failed to provide me with a fix, parts or even just a loaner car due to the safety hazard. My car has gone limp mode several times on the highway at speeds of 70mph. This is unacceptable.
My 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia, VIN [XXX] , is currently disabled and inoperable at the authorized dealer, Alfa Romeo Fiat of Daytona (Service Advisor: Kevin Chapman). The vehicle is subject to the active and known Safety Recall 93C (Low-Pressure Fuel Pump). My vehicle is experiencing a total loss of motive power and engine stall, which is the exact safety hazard described in the recall. Furthermore, the initial failure of the low-pressure fuel system appears to have caused secondary consequential damage to the expensive High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP), and the vehicle is also exhibiting a severe and recurring electrical defect (new battery dying, random dash warnings/brake lights flashing). The manufacturer, FCA/Stellantis (Customer Care Case #XXX...), and the dealer are engaging in a runaround to deny basic safety recall provisions: 1. Refusal to Cover Consequential Damage: FCA Customer Care stated that if the issue is 'not the 93C recall then it will all be customer pay,' which conflicts with NHTSA guidelines requiring the manufacturer to remedy the primary defect and all damage proximately caused by it. 2. Refusal to Provide Loaner/Rental Car: FCA stated the loaner is up to the dealer, and the dealer stated it is up to the diagnostic. This runaround has created an unreasonable delay in the repair of a federally mandated safety recall, leaving the owner without transportation for a disabled, unsafe vehicle. I am requesting NHTSA intervention to compel FCA/Stellantis to: a) Authorize a complimentary rental car/loaner until the vehicle is fully repaired. b) Provide a formal commitment that all damage proven to be a direct, proximate consequence of the 93C fuel pump failure will be covered at no cost. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - THE MANUFACTER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS FLAWED. THERE IS NO RESOLUTION PROVIDED AT THIS TIME FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS TO BE PERFORMED. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - I AM DEEPLY CONCERN ABOUT THE POTENTIAL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DEFECT. A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING COULD LEAD TO A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE ROAD. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -YES, THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FURTHER INSPECTED AS THERE IS NO RESOLUTION TO THIS MATTER AT THIS TIME. FOR THAT REASON, I AM VERY HESITANT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS PROPERTLY RESOLVED. IS SIGNIFICANT SAFETLY CONCERN FOR ME, MY PASSANGERS AND OTHERS IN THE ROAD AS WELL. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - NO DIRECT WARNING OR MESSAGE HOWEVER, ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM BUT NO MAIN SOURCE HAVE EVER BEEN FOUND, EVEN AFTER MULTIPLES APPOINMENTS AND REPAIRS AT THE SHOP. MORE RECENTLY, THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES ARE BECOMING FRECUENT AND I'M AFFRAID ALL IS RELATED TO THIS PUMP ISSUE.
The intrusment cluster stopped working took it to the dealership they couldn't get it to work they contacted the manufacturer they stopped communicating. Dealership can't get the new updated software to download.
This has been an issue slowly getting worse over the last few months and escalated this week. June 20th, 2025 my car has literary died over (4) times during traffic and I had to try and stay calm while using a code reader to clear the codes to get the engine to start. Very scary, I have a 2017 Giulia Ti that just hit 100k miles. Even took it to the dealership and they couldn't explain it. Parasitic draw on my battery and they gave it a pass :( Codes: P2510-ECM/PCM POWER RELAY SENSE CKT RANGE/PERFORMANCE P0103-VAF CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT P0100- VAF CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION P0451-EVAP SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH 'A' RANGE/PERFORMANCE P0106-MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE/BAROMETRIC PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT
Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a serious safety incident involving my vehicle. On [XXX] at approximately [XXX], while driving to an extracurricular activity for my [XXX] child, my vehicle displayed the following warning messages: “Service Engine,” “Service Electronic Throttle Control,” and “Start/Stop Unavailable.” Immediately after these warnings appeared, the vehicle shut off and shifted into neutral. I lost the ability to steer, creating a highly dangerous situation. I was on a busy road approaching an interstate entrance and had to react quickly to avoid a potential accident. Fortunately, I was able to maneuver the vehicle safely to the side of the road, but I believe this malfunction presents a serious risk to public safety and should be investigated. Please let me know if additional information or documentation is needed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When I'm driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly have a notification stating 'Service Electronic Throttle Control' and started to lose power, no matter howbjard the pedal was being depressed, it's notbgiving enough power out and start dropping speed. That drop me almost hit the vehicle behind me and inposing a serious risk because I'm on the highway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the dealer mentioend it might be a fuel pump problem. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, it start almodt everytime suddenly from nowhere. Usually it will be ok after a few restart, but this t.ime it's persistent
I have a 2017 Alfa Romeo giulia TI on several occasions between the dates of September 2023 to current November 21st 2023 I have had a series of low pressure fuel codes pop up during numerous Diagnostics it was found to be my in tank fuel pump during further research it was found it was a TBS on it and feel it should be cool due to the fact that wild traveling in a high-speed Lane at 80 miles an hour the car shut down I had myself and my family in the vehicle on another occasion I had myself in the vehicle in the slow lane knowing that this may come up or feeling this may come up and it shut down doing 65 miles an hour at any point in time we have been rear-ended and killed. On several occasions it has shut down but luckily turning into a parking lot on secondary roads this unfortunately has caused so much stress for my wife that she will not get into the car my children won't drive in it and my daughter doesn't want to get in any car cuz she doesn't trust them this is very very unsettling even at the fact that I have to pay for it and the stress is caused my family it's crazy to think out of all the vehicles I've ever owned in my life BMWs Porsches Chevrolets and Dodges I've never had to worry about a fuel pump going in this fashion without any safety mechanism set up I really hope to receive a response soon as I am actively getting it fixed and feel I should not even have to be putting out any money for this let alone the amount of time it's going to take for my kids to be able to get back into the car Alfa Romeo you really let me down on this one and as I continue to read and investigate I see that there are many many instances and threads with the same situation please do the right thing I'll be in touch
The Sun roof won’t close and is so distracting while driving on highways You can’t concentrate and this happen before but the dealership fixed under warranty and happens again and again and I did some research and it happens a lot in this cars same problem the last time was today sometimes full open and the most won’t close the corners
On July 10 I was driving my car and then suddenly all the brakes came on. There were no objects in front of the car or behind the cars it was early morning at 7 o'clock on my way to the hospital for work. There was no warning that there was an object in front of me or anything. Two days later around the same time in the morning the car could start but the electronic brake system was ON. you can't turn them off. it gave a temporary message about electronic brake system issue. you can start the car and turn it off but the car won't move the even when you put the gear on as if all electronic brake system are engaged and can't turn them off by pushing the electronic parking knob off. after turning the car on and off multiple times, this electronic brakes must have been disengaged. Three days later the car was diagnosed with brake caliper failure in one tire which was repaired. I'm a physician and by no means a car technician but I think these are two completely unrelated issues. I feel that a bad brake caliper in one tire should not cause all four tires and all four brakes to stop the car suddenly on the road or prevent the car from moving when Idol or lock the electronic brake system. I communicated this clearly with Alfa Romeo main office as well as with my local dealership. This has been almost 2-3 weeks ago since ofI communicated with the Alfa Romeo people. I clearly told him that this is a big safety issue and we can't allow cars to stop by themselves in the middle of the road or come to a sudden brake in the middle of the road. This is extremely hazardous to the driver as well as to the people in that car or around the car. the technician thinks that the car is drivable and safe. Again I work on people not cars, but to me sudden irrational activation of the electronic braking system may not be dangerous when the car is idol but is extremely DANGEROUS while driving. Because i didn't hear any listening ears at the Alfa, I decided to contact you.
When driving vehicle it randomly goes into Limp mode and gives an “electronic throttle module error”. This in turns decreases the power of the vehicle significantly and causes you to move over lanes as to not cause traffic. This issue is common for a lot of Alfa Romeo Guilia owners.
Car was being driven on a highway going around a turn and message for “ATV Service” appeared. Shortly after power to the steering wheel and lost jerked the car and came back. All electric lighting flickered and several other messages for service engine and transmission appeared.
Car started itself. Vehicle was sitting in garage and was Locked. The radiator fans came on and vehicle started on its own. it continued to run until we unlocked and hit the stop button. Since this has happened it does not turnover on the first attempt. It has set several codes, Start stop unavailable, service electronic throttle, service engine now. My concern is if the vehicle were to start in the garage while we were asleep and carbon monoxide would leak into the house.
The battery will not hold a charge significant enough for the rear window defrost to work, and stop/start to work. Have replaced the battery twice and the dealer's answer is that I don't drive enough to get the battery charged enough as battery health is only 30%. I drive 20 miles a day, every day, somedays 100 miles. Others have this same issue in their Forum. Another solution is to constantly put a charger on the battery. The rear window ices over and is a safety issue.
The brake by wire system failed, and another component caused the vehicle to accelerate when I hit the brake pedal. I didn't have any proof on the last complaint, but I have it now. This brake failure caused me to rear end someone, which caused a multiple vehicle accident. The dealership I took it to was aware that I was having electrical issues with the car, but they said they couldn't do anything about it because they couldn't find any fault codes. I even sent them a video of it as well. I also believe this car was involved in a prior accident as well by one of the previous owners and fixed by one of them under the table, because the front bumper shock absorber plate broke in half, and had writing on it as well that looked like something a repair shop would do. This car is unsafe.
I was travelling along the road when 3 cars suddenly hit the brakes really hard. I was able to hit my brakes fast, but I did not feel any pressure on the pedal and I was unable to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I also had a problem with the start system. I was randomly unable to start the car (about 3 times.) I would have to wait 10 minutes or longer for the car to be able to start again. I also noticed that the front bumper frame of my car was split in half (as if I had hit a post or something big.) I also noticed that there was writting on the front bumper frame (no foam padding in between,) and the following written on the front (DNR. 01/09/2017 and a time 10:20.) I don't know what's going on with my vehicle. It's frustrating and I've had to take it to the dealership a few time 3 hours away.
My Alfa Romeo only has 29,000 miles on it. It randomly dies on you and does not start. Might happen while you drive with the start/stop and also when you try to turn on the car. When speaking to an Alfa Romeo representative, they inform you that to fix it’s about $600 or higher and they are also aware that is a common problems with their cars. The representative informed me that to turn it back on, I have to disconnect the a wire on top of the battery. I’m not a mechanic and should not have to work with the electrical system of the car. After reconnecting that wire, there’s the electric stability control light that turns on and the steering wheel assist light turns on. It’s crazy that this is a know issue with these cars and the dealers try everything they can to charge you for that repair. Which makes the car completely unsafe.
While waiting for a traffic light to change, the vehicle turned off but immediately turned back on. About four miles later, the same situation happened again but this time it took me a few minutes to get it to start. The vehicle had 1/4 fuel on the tank. After refueling, it drove fine. It was fine again on my way home from work, at least most of the way. When I was near home, it started to shut off and back on at a few traffic lights, but was able to drive it home.
The contact owns a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. During the failure, the check engine and auto stop/start warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that an unknown relay needed to be replaced. No further information was available. The contact indicated that the vehicle had been serviced for the failure on multiple occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.

THE CAR STOP BY ITSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND I JUST COULD MAKE IT TO PULL IT OVER AND LIGHTS APPEAR ON THE CAR DASHBOARD THE CHECK ENGINE, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, AND OTHER LIGHT THAT I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS BUT IT WAS AN "A!" . I TURN OFF THE CAR AND I WAITED FOR 10 MIN AN I TURN IT ON AGAIN AND IT WORKS BUT THE LIGHTS STILL WERE THERE, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER SHIP BECAUSE I HAVE ONLY 4 MONTH WITH THE CAR AND IT IS AN USED CAR, BUT IT HAS ONLY 19000 MILES TO HAVE THAT KIND OF PROBLEMS. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DONT HAVE SPACE TO CHECK THE CAR PROBABLY UNTIL OCTOBER THAT THEY WILL CALL ME, BUT WHEN WE WENT BACK TO HOME THE CAR DID THE SAME IT START TO DROP THE SPEED BY ITSELF AND STOP , AND I JUST PARKED IN MY HOUSE AND I HAVE NOT MOVE IT, THE CAR HAS OTHER PROBLEMS TO CHECK, THE HOOK CONNECTIONS AND THE TIRES, BUT THE THING IS THAT THE DEALERSHIP SAY THEY HAVE TOO MANY CARS IN FRONT OF MINE AND THEY WILL CHECK IT PROBABLY UNTIL OCTOBER 2020. I REALLY THINK THOSE VEHICLES ALFA ROMEO GUILIA SHOULD BE CHECKED FROM THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BECAUSE LIFE OF PEOPLE IS IN RISK WHEN THEY JUST STOP IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.

DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN AND GOES INTO LIMP MODE. NO POWER STEERING, NO BRAKES, NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY HAZARDOUS AND A SAFETY ISSUE. NO WAY TO START THE CAR. NO WAY TO MOVE THE CAR UNLESS OWNER GOES UNDER THE CAR WITH A SPECIFIC TOOL AND UNLOCKS THE BREAKS MANUALLY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED TO BE. I BELONG TO A GROUP OF CAR ENTHUSIASTS WHICH OWN THE SAME MODEL AND SEVERAL HAVE REPORTED TO HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE.

WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY STUCK IN TRAFFIC, IT WAS A STOP AND GO AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN RESUMING THE ACCELERATION (WHILE IN NORMAL FROM THE DNA ). I SLOWLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, WHEN I PRESSED THE BREAKS THE FEELING ON THE PEDAL WAS ABNORMAL AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP CAUSING ME TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. IT FELT AS IF THE BREAKS DID NOT FULLY ENGAGE, THE CAR JUST KEPT GOING WHILE ONLY PRESSING THE BREAKS WHICH I REPEAT AGAIN FELT AS IF THEY DID NOT FULLY ENGAGE. ALL THIS HAPPENED WHILE GOING AT A VERY LOW SPEED NO MORE THAN 20MPH. NO ONE WAS HURT AS ALL THIS HAPPENED AT A VERY SLOW SPEED. HOWEVER IT SCARES ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE NOW. NOT TOO LONG AGO I HAD IT IN THE SERVICE WHERE THEY PERFORMED A FAULT WITH THE SOUND SYSTEM AND A MISALIGNED HOOD. I HAVE ALSO FELT THE BREAKS ACTING FUNNY WHILE COMING TO A STOP LIGHT PER SAY, IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THE CAR TO FULLY STOP WHETHER A SOFT PRESS ON THE PEDAL OR A HARD ONE. THERE SEEMS TO BE A "DEAD POINT" WHEN STEPPING ON THE BREAK PEDAL AS WELL. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CRUSHED GIULIA TO THE NEAREST SHOP. THE OTHER PARTY WHO WAS HIT DIDN'T SUFFER MUCH DAMAGES, ON MY CAR, BOTH HEADLAMPS BROKE, HOOD CRUSHED INWARDS AND THE BUMPER IS TRASHED. I HAVE EXPRESSED MY CONCERN WITH ALFA ROMEO BUT NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY. ON A SIDE NOT I HAVE BEEN HAVING CONSTANT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS POP UP RANDOMLY SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2017. ALL OF WHICH HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY THE ALFA ROMEO DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER IT HAS BEEN IN THE SERVICE DRIVE OVER 5 TIMES SINCE PURCHASED. MY VEHICLE HAS 13K MILES ON IT.

THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE INTERFERES WITHOUT WARNING WITH THE DRIVER'S ATTEMPT TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF, AND CAN MAKE THE DRIVER BELIEVE THE CAR IS OFF WHEN IT IS NOT. THIS CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RESTART AND MOVE FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN THE DRIVER BEGINS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. EXPERIENCE: I ENTERED THE DRIVEWAY AND CAME TO A STOP. I PUSHED THE IGNITION STOP BUTTON AND THE CAR APPEARED TO TURN OFF AS EXPECTED. IN FACT, THE AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM HAD STOPPED THE ENGINE TEMPORARILY AT ALMOST THE EXACT SAME MOMENT I PRESSED THE STOP BUTTON. BELIEVING THE IGNITION TO BE OFF I BEGAN TO EXIT THE CAR NORMALLY BUT AS SOON AS I MOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE MOVED FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY, ALMOST HITTING THE PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM TAKES VARIOUS FACTORS INTO ACCOUNT WHEN DECIDING WHEN TO PAUSE THE ENGINE, BUT IT FREQUENTLY TURNS THE ENGINE OFF WITHIN ONE TO THREE SECONDS AFTER A STOP -- THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME A TYPICAL DRIVER WILL BE ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF WITH NO OBVIOUS VISUAL OR AUDITORY CLUES AS TO WHAT HAS TURNED OFF THE ENGINE (THE DRIVER OR THE AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM) THE DRIVER CAN BE UNAWARE THAT THE CAR WILL RESTART AND MOVE FORWARD WHEN HE TAKES HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE. THIS CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO THE DRIVER OR PASSENGERS WHO MAY BE EXITING THE CAR, AND TO PEDESTRIANS IN FRONT OF THE CAR. FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE: TWO OR THREE TIMES WEEKLY. *TT

THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY ELEVEN TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STARTED A BUYBACK PROCESS; HOWEVER, THEY RESCINDED THE OFFER AFTER THE CONTACT REFUSED TO PUT AN EDR EVEN AFTER EXPRESSING CONCERNS OF OPERATING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,200.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AT THE END OF MAY 2017, AFTER PUTTING ON ABOUT 500 MI WITHIN 4 WEEKS, A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT,LOOKED AT IT, AND CALLED THE FOLLOWING DAY & SAID THERE WAS "SOMETHING LOOSE THAT NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED" AND THAT THE CAR WAS READY FOR PICK UP. I DROVE THE CAR AND PARKED IT IN MY GARAGE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, I TOOK THE CAR OUT, TURNED IT AROUND AND BACKED IT UP TO PARK IN FRONT OF MY GARAGE, I WAS GOING SLOWLY (UNDER 5 MPH) THE BRAKED LOCKED UP AND THE CAR ACCELERATED IN REVERSE HITTING MY GARAGE BEFORE I COULD STOP IT BY TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, BUT GOT NO RESPONSE. A FEW HOURS LATER I HAD A LUNCH APPOINTMENT. THE MAN I WAS MEETING WANTED ME TO TAKE HIM FOR A SHORT RIDE IN THE CAR, WHICH I DID. AS WE RETURNED TO THE RESTAURANT, I PULLED INTO THE PARKING SPACE SLOWLY, AND ENGAGED THE BRAKES, AGAIN THE CAR WENT INTO SUDDEN ACCELERATION, GOING OVER ARBORVITAE TREES AND INTO A NEIGHBORING PARKING LOT. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CALLED AND THE CAR TOWED. ON BOTH OF THESE OCCASIONS I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY, BOTH TIMES I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND FELT THEM LOCK AS THE CAR WENT INTO ACCELERATION, AND BOTH TIMES I HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR TO GET IT TO STOP.
