Audi A4 Years to Avoid
The 2006 Audi A4 is the worst year to avoid, with elevated complaints about engine and electrical issues. The 2002-2009 B6 and B7 generation A4s with the 2.0T engine suffer from timing belt tensioner failures and oil consumption issues. These models also experienced CVT transmission problems in automatic variants, with many requiring expensive replacements. The 2.0T FSI direct injection engines had carbon buildup issues requiring intake valve cleaning. Electrical gremlins including window regulators and control module failures affected these years.
Best Audi A4 Years
The 1995 model year represents early A4 production with simpler technology. The 2010-2016 B8 generation addressed many earlier issues and offers improved reliability. The 2017 and newer B9 generation benefits from further refinements to the 2.0T engine and improved transmission calibration. The 3.0L supercharged V6 in S4 models proves more reliable than turbo 4-cylinders.
