Yellow battery indicator light came on while driving car in 35 degree weather after a week of sitting in garage (holidays). I pulled over, read the manual and it said this could cause battery light to illuminate. I called the dealership service to ask them, they said possible reason. I decided to drive across city to dealership, 25 minutes away. On HOV lane, red warning lights flashing to pull over then 5 seconds later everything went black. No electrical, no engine, car died. VERY DANGEROUS!! Read later that this has been happening on Audi A6 (& other models) for 2+ years. Towed to dealership and they have had 1.5 weeks and still not fixed.

Audi is aware of the starter-alternator issue which is documented in Audi's Emissions Service Action Code: 27BQ dated 4/30/24. Audi didn't communicate this to the effective users until October 2024. I personally experienced the defect in my starter-alternator on 10/21/24 and proceeded to have my car repaired.

Mar 9, 2024

Electrical malfunction warning. Steering wheel got tight. Transmission failure warning. Then the the car began to stop. all types of various warnings were popping up on the heads up display. It is in the process of getting taken to the nearest dealer.

Feb 22, 2024

When backing up the car the cameras don't turn on and often times the collision sensors go off randomly. On the highway the emergency brakes go off randomly when a car passes by on the right-hand side of the vehicle.

Feb 13, 2024

Car flashed several warning signs, electrical system malfunction, steering malfunction, lane assist malfunction, and finally powertrain system malfunction where car was barely driveable at very slow speed, died and I luckily was able to pull over and coast into a parking spot.

Feb 5, 2024

Car slowed down and shut off in the middle of the road.

Jan 28, 2024

The car gave me electrical malfunction warning while driving on the highway, then all the screens turned black, and the car completely shut down while driving. The steering was still working, although heavier than usual, and the breaking also worked. The car slow down to a complete stop at the shoulder of the highway. This was very concerning, and thankfully happened close on exit with a shoulder at the side in which I was able to park the car.

Jan 3, 2024

The car couldn't start and stopped abruptly on the way through bunches of errors on the dashboard with check engine light and steering was firm and could not lock the Car or open the door Here are the warning list for 2019 Audi A6: Electrical system malfunction Electrical system malfunction Parking aid malfunction Transmission malfunction Rear spoiler malfunction Drive system: malfunction Traction control malfunction Tire pressure monitoring system malfunction Parking brake malfunction Automatic start/stop system malfunction Start/stop system malfunction

Jan 2, 2024

Warning light came on for electrical malfunction and many other malfunction lights car then shut down.

Dec 26, 2023

The car gave me a written error message on the dashboard that there was an electrical system malfunction. I thought to myself, "Gotta get that checked out. Let's see if it goes away." I drove a short distance home and parked. The next day I began to drive to work. I got the electrical system malfunction message again. I decided to pull into a parking lot and make an appointment to get it fixed by the dealer. Then, I began to drive back home (didn't want to risk driving to work). The car then gave me a new message that the electrical system was not working and to pull over safely. I drove for 30 or so more seconds as all the systems began to shut down. The car completely stopped within a minute or 2 of the error message, stranding me in the middle of the road. It was impossible to shift it into neutral to safely move it. If I had been driving on the highway, it would have been REALLY bad! There was almost no time to get the car to a safe spot and no chance to put it into neutral to move it. The car has since been diagnosed with a faulty generator that needs to be replaced.

Dec 26, 2023

A yellow warning light went on stating"electrical system malfunction" start/stop is not working. Within 5 miles a red warning light went on that stated pull over when safe then within 100 yds multiple warnings went off and i lost power steering, power brakes etc. I was able to get stopped but the car would not start nor was I able to even put it in neutral to have it towed. I researched the issue and it seems to be a well known issue with the alternator. There has been several state lawsuits in regards to the issue. But no recalls or information sent to owners.

Dec 13, 2023

Electrical fault dash warnings (steering, transmission, braking and many other things too numerous to mention came on while driving the car and it went into limp mode and forced the car to stop and would not restart. The car had to be towed to the dealership where they diagnosed the problem to be the "alternator" which is more accurately what is known as the "belt starter generator" BSG. The BSG runs the start stop feature of the car and charges the mild hybrid 48v battery system that runs many of the critical features of the vehicle. They do not have the part in stock and do not know how long it will take to get in. I understand that there is NOT an upgraded part available that will fix this issue, only the same part that they are continuing to put on all of the V6 engine models since 2019 to today. The A6,7 and A8 and Q5,7 and Q8 models in particular are being affected. This is an extremely dangerous problem that has not been remedied by Audi/VW to this point and the NHTSA should issue a recall.

Nov 28, 2023

Vehicle stopped and is not operational. Dealer stated that the generator went out. Part is not available due to this problem occuring on so many vehicles. Vehicle has been in the shop since late, October it is now November 28th and still no ETA on part arrival or repair completion.

Nov 9, 2023

Car shut down while driving due to the electrical system malfunction; had to get the car towed; ended up being a known issue by Audi with no recall related to the alternator; replaced with new alternator

Oct 27, 2023

First sign of the vehicle is shaking and making noise while driving over 65mph. A few days later, the tire pressure warning was on. The next day, electric system malfunction light was on, advising me to contact service center. At the same day, steering function light was on and it was stiff to drive the vehicle. A few miles down the road, engine shuts off, and was unable to restart.

Oct 23, 2023

The Alternator had failed along with the battery and shut off the car, rendering it useless on the road. The vehicle is still under the New Car Warranty. It was a hazard as it could not be put into neutral and was stuck in park. The dealer had confirmed it was a manufacturer-wide problem with waits of up to 3-6 months for the part. The tow truck had difficulty towing it up as the car was not able to roll. Before the car shut off immediately it had given the warning "Electrical System: Malfunction! Please Contact Service, as well as Auto Start Stop System: Malfunction!".

Sep 27, 2023

Red start/stop malfunction light, then Electical System yellow light malfunction, then Red light Electical System safely stop vehicle all with 2-3 min while driving in normal city conditions

Sep 22, 2023

Received a message for "Electrical System Failure" and drove ok at first but began receiving failure messages for various systems including but not limited to Start/Stop system, transmission, power steering, and crash avoidance systems. Soon after the entertainment and comfort system screens went blank followed by the dash screen and the car eventually just turned off as I was trying to find a safe place to pull over. Safety was put a risk as I was stranded on a busy road with no shoulder and because the battery was impacted my hazard lights only lasted a short time which left me and my vehicle exposed on the side of the road. The car was towed to the dealer (Audi of Albany) who inspected determined the failure was related to a faulty ignition generator. The car is currently at Audi of Albany and will be for at least 2 weeks so I am assuming it would be available for inspection. Many different warning lights appeared in the short time leading to total shutdown of the car. I recall a start/stop failure message, batter charge low, transmission failure light, power steering failure warning, adaptive cruise control, frontal collision avoidance among others. As stated above all screens in the car eventually turned off and the car fully failed on a main road and required a tow to the dealer.

This is my SECOND entry/complaint regarding the same EXTREMELY DANGEROUS steering malfunction. While driving my 2019 A6 (this time alone) in heavy rain the same warning message was displayed. The warning stated: steering malfunction, please stop the vehicle!. At which point the power steering locked-up & the engine powered down. As a result, I was unable to steer the vehicle. One again I was able to exit the highway safely. Being close to home with only a few turns, I was able to “limp” the car home, parked in my driveway and contacted Audi. Currently it’s at Nyack Audi awaiting service on Monday 9/11. This is a huge safety issue and needs to be addressed. Doing a bit of online research & reading countless Audi blogs, I found out this to be a common issue with other Audis while driving in the rain. Fist time this occurred was 6/16/22, driving a 2016 S6. Tracking # for that entry is 11543563

Sep 7, 2023

On my way to work, my car alerted me to an electrical malfunction and told me to call for service. When I called my Audi dealership, they told me to bring it in for service the following week. After asking if the car was safe to drive, they told me they wouldn't know unless they looked at the car. After pleading with them, they agreed to an appointment that day. On my way to the dealership - about 10 minutes into the trip on a highway, driving at highway speed, all electrical systems in the car started shutting down, and quickly - air conditioning, all safety features like lane keep assist, collision avoidance, etc. The steering became very heavy, the brakes were underperforming. After slowing down safely, the car shut down and was completely immobile and inoperable.

Aug 29, 2023

Car started by saying auto start /stop function malfunction, than Electrical Malfunction. after reading an Audi forum on Audi World there is thousand of customers complaining of the same issue. apparently its a known issue with their 48v mild hybrid system and their alternator. multiple dealerships blaming a faulty alternator. this issue has left people stranded and myself the vehicle A/C system stopped working and now parked at home until I can take to dealership. this issue is not a small one or impacting a small amount of consumers and more investigating should be done by your agency to be a Recall on this. Thx

May 31, 2023

Was driving and car gave me an Electrical System Malfunction, shortly after all lights (abs, esc, power steering, brakes) came on and vehicle died right after. I was traveling at 25-30mph and was unable to control my vehicle. I had to have the vehicle towed to a shop because it would not start after. After some research, it seems to be a problem with the 48V mild Hybrid system. Thousands of known cases this should be a recall! Extremely unsafe.

May 26, 2023

Starter warning followed by electrical system malfunction, these were followed by Multiple warning lights (Lane departure, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, etc) then 1 minute later transmission failure and engine failure imminent.... pull over immediately and contact dealer. I turned into a road off main highway within a minute of the last two warnings and as I turned, my center MMI went blank then my electronic dash went blank, transmission went into neutral and the engine died all within a few seconds. Fortunately I was able to coast to a stop.

May 22, 2023

While driving the vehicle states that there was an electrical fault and to contact a service center. This was associated with a loss of drive power that made handling more difficult. A dealer advised me this morning that this is a common issue.

Apr 25, 2023

Massive safety liability here. My 2019 Audi A6 was on the highway traveling at 75mph on 4/25/2023 at noon when with no prior warning, all of the electrical systems started failing rapidly. In the course of 90 seconds, there was an electrical malfunction warning, quickly followed by malfunction warnings for steering, brakes, and cascading shutdowns of all systems like the transmission, ABS, Collision Warning, Lane Departure, lights, hazard warning lights, instrument screens/clusters, HVAC, windows- literally everything. A complete failure of every component and safety system while driving highspeed is extremely dangerous. Had this happened at night, I would have been bricked in the middle of the road without headlights, hazard lights, airbags, etc. The car had to be towed away to the dealership and is available for inspection. The dealer is aware of this issue and called it a 48 volt starter/ alternator issue which is apparently systemic/ widespread with 2019-21 Audi 48 volt architectures; parts are generally backordered for months. Please take note: There is an extremely high risk that someone will be killed and seriously injured as a result of this defect. The vehicle is awaiting inspection and repair at an Audi dealership. It is under extended manufacturers warranty at 50,700 miles. No other diagnostics/ inspections/ or reports have taken place yet.

Apr 8, 2023

Message for "electrical system malfunction", then "start stop system malfunction", then "electrical system malfunction stop vehicle safely". Car was immobilized. Was driving on highway.

ALTERNATOR FAILIURE (48V)

Mar 1, 2023

Two miles from home all sorts of electrical malfunction warning ⚠️ lights appear. Too many to list here. Then car completely stops and all electricals shut down. This happened in the middle of a very busy three lane 45mph main artery. Stuck in gear, unable to push off side of road. After ten minutes or so of cars zooming around us, it started enough to get off road to safe place. Waited 4 hours in freezing cold for tow truck. Very scary incident for my wife and me, as we are in our 70s. Towed to my local Audi dealer. The problem seems to be with the “Starter Alternator” and is a national problem with 1000s of affected owners. Was told 29 vehicles are ahead of mine for replacement and that it could be weeks before parts are available. One car family and no loaners available and there talking weeks / months to repair.

Feb 20, 2023

Electrical System Malfunction w/yellow battery icon...stop/start system unavailable. Vehicle deemed unsafe to drive. Towed to dealership, part on worldwide B/O...estimate several month wait for starter/alternator

Feb 15, 2023

Vehicle emitted multiple warnings via dashboard displays. Called dealer's service department and they advised to bring vehicle to dealership as soon as possible. They suspected the car was experiencing pending failure of the generator or alternator, which could result in an immediate loss of all electronics, posing a serious risk while driving. I attempted to drive car the 10-15 miles to the dealership the next morning and all systems failed. Dealer confirmed issue was related to the suspected generator or alternator issue.

Feb 15, 2023

Battery light came on, called the dealer and they said don't drive and towed the car to dealer. They said need to replace Starter Generator C29. They did't have parts, so they keep my car at Audi dealer service shop for about one and hale month. I googled and look like it happened to too many people. Finally they said found the parts and charge me $2902.12. I am really concerned that part is not properly constructed or something, as even in this dealership, they said my car was sixth in one month and may more after me. They are skimming money from bad part.

Feb 11, 2023

I had a failure with the vehicle electrical system malfunction. I had multiple warnings from ABS, Power steering, Adaptive cruise control. I was on the highway doing about 70 when this happened. After about 5 mins of driving, everything powered down in the vehicle. From the dashboard to the center instrument panel. Then after that, the car cut off. Lucky I was in the right lane to pull over to the shoulder. Car never started back up. Nervous about what the dealership is going to tell me.

Feb 8, 2023

I suffered a complete failure of the vehicle's electrical system. First, I received a warning that the electrical system malfunctioned. This warning went away after two power cycles. Two days later the warning came back and a warning that the battery level was low. I was driving the vehicle approximately 1 mile on the highway when the warning became progressively dire. First the Adaptive cruise control systems became failing one by one, adaptive lane keep, lane departure etc. Then I got yellow warnings about failures in the transmission and the engine. Finally those errors became dire that I must stop the vehicle. I next lost all electrical screens within 2-3 minutes of the cascading dire warnings just as I was pulling off the highway onto side streets. Within 30 seconds I lost power steering and most braking force. I was able to pull over into a bus stop, but with difficulty. I lost all hazard lights, all vehicle lights. I lost the ability to unlock the doors temporarily but this recovered. I could not turn the car back on, I could just hear the started struggling to turn over. None of the screens in the vehicle worked. No lights or horn worked. Thankfully this happened in the late afternoon while the sun was still out. The extreme danger posed by not having emergency lights, power steering and minimal braking capability made this an extremely scary situation. I was advised by Audi Queens that this was confirmed alternator/generator failure.

Feb 6, 2023

On December 16, 2022, the alternator on the vehicle failed, which prevented the battery from charging. Luckily, I had just parked the car when all the electronics shut off - otherwise I would have been driving on a busy street with the potential for an accident. The vehicle was towed that day to White Allen European Auto Group in Dayton and is still there and available for inspection. Today is Feb. 6, 2023, and they are still unable to get the required alternator parts and we don't have an ETA. To my knowledge the vehicle has only been assessed by their technician, not anyone else. There were electrical issues prior to the failure. I took the vehicle to White Allen on Nov. 22 due to warning lights for Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist turning on and off, as well as issues with the engine shutting off at traffic lights and being unable to get the car to move without turning it completely off and back on again. When I took it to the dealership, they performed many vehicle recalls and repairs including multiple software updates, reworking the transmission wiring harness, servicing the start/stop system, airbag inspection, battery load, control module update, MMI software update, etc. I picked up the vehicle on November 30, 2022. On December 5, 2022, I had to take it back to White Allen because the bottom display screen was not functioning properly. (When starting the car, the top half of that screen was scrambled and the bottom half was dark. After driving for a while, the screen would begin functioning properly). They diagnosed it as a hardware issue with the top screen that controls the lower screen. I was told they would replace the top screen, and the parts should be available by December 29. I asked if the car is safe to drive, and they said I could continue driving it as the lower screen doesn't control anything that might be a safety issue. On December 16, the car stopped working and I had it towed back to the dealership.

Feb 4, 2023

Known generator problem. The entire car shut down when I was on the express way at 5:30 PM rush hour in Chicago. Luckily I was able to get over to a shoulder before the car went completely DEAD . Even the emergency flasher would not work, miracle that we didn't get killed. Can't believe Audi let people drive these cars when many have had this problem

The contact owns a 2019 Audi A6. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number 22V155000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced the failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Feb 3, 2023

Electrical system malfunction caused by a faulty generator which was confirmed by Audi Connection (servicing dealership) in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Feb 3, 2023

The car displayed a warning that the electrical system had a fault and to contact service. I then contacted service and they said to drive it to the dealer as it sounded like a known issue with the generator/starter and 48V system. On the way to the dealership, the warnings continued and then various systems began shutting down, including the steering and the transmission. I was going at a relatively slow speed on a side street at the time, which was fortunate, as the car locked up all four wheels and had no steering and the engine quit. Thankfully it was a side street. If this was a major street or highway, it quite likely could have caused a serious accident or injury. In contacting Audi USA, they do not have parts available to fix this issue, and the dealership confirmed that they are unable to fix the car at this time.

Feb 1, 2023

-Total electrical system failure (dealer confirmed starter generator). -After a short time of cautions followed by warnings, engine and all electrical components quit working. (no hazard lights). no way to warn other drivers on the road or highway to a malfunctioning vehicle -dealer confirmed starter generator needs replacement. waiting on part (60+ days and counting) -caution and warnings started appearing about 15 miles before the car became completely underivable. (every electrical system caution began appearing followed by warnings of impending engine shutdown)

Jan 30, 2023

It appears that the 48v hybrid alternator failed. The vehicle completely shut down/lost all power while driving 50 mph on busy road. Almost rear ended while trying to coast to a stop. Low battery light came on the day before. The day it failed I was driving it to the dealership.

Jan 29, 2023

Vehicle's on board system reads "Electrical Malfunction: START/STOP system malfunction. Call service". THEN this triggers a complete shutdown of the vehicle: transmission, steering, distance, and braking sensors, etc all got affected.

Jan 28, 2023

While I was driving, the vehicle gave an electrical system malfunction warning. When I stopped and restarted the vehicle, the car reluctantly started with delays and a check engine light. I had to tow the car to the dealership. Upon inspection, they determined it is a generator issue, much like many other owners of 2019+ model year of Audi's. They do not have an ETA on the replacement part, and thus the car will be out of commission for weeks to months. I am lucky, as many other people who have experienced this problem have had their car completely die on them in the middle of driving. This is a potentially dangerous safety hazard, and an enormous inconvenience, as any Audi owner with this generator issue will not have their car for weeks to months.

Jan 27, 2023

My wife was travelling on the interstate at about 75 mph, when all of the dash lights flashed in red that there was an electrical system failure. At this time, while driving in the fast lane, it seemed like all systems including steering and power brakes failed. She managed to make it across four lanes of traffic before the car died completely. Once we got the car towed to the dealership, they informed us that it was a failure with the 48V generator and that it would be at least 2 months to fix the problem because the part was on back order. It has now been 2 and a half months, so I called the dealership and they told me they have 31 of these to change and my car is still a few weeks away from be repaired.

Jan 27, 2023

The starter/generator (formerly known as alternator) of our A6 3.0 needs to be replaced, the part is back-ordered for approximately 60 to 90 days. The yellow indicator light goes on and then the car shuts off. It happens without warning and is incredibly dangerous.

Jan 26, 2023

Mid December the day after I purchased my 2019 a6 the 48V starter generator failed while driving with my son in the car. Alerts came up as electronics issue and to pull over. Very quickly it stopped dead in road. They told me it is a known issue, and they have multiple A6s waiting for this part. It has been over a month and still unknown when this part will be available. This should be a recalled item, but is under warranty.

Jan 24, 2023

On Thanksgiving Day I received a warning on my display: "Electrical system: malfunction! Please contact Service." The next day I contacted Ellis Audi in Atlanta and was able to drive about 3 miles to take the car to them. At the end of the day they said I needed a new Alternator/Generator and the car should not be driven. They said the part was on backorder and they already had about 11 cars needing the same part. Since then they received 7 parts but now have about 20 cars on their lot requiring repair.

Jan 24, 2023

Was driving down the road and received a yellow “electrical system malfunction” alert. Shortly after an alert that said my start-stop function was no longer available. After about 20 minutes I received a red electrical system malfunction: stop vehicle safely. Thankfully I was pulling onto my street when the last alert popped up.

Jan 22, 2023

Starter generator/alternator problem. I was driving and suddenly got electrical malfunction issue and slowly all electronics in the car stopped working. Got the car towed to Audi service center and the service representative told me it was starter generator issue and it’s widespread. Dropped the car on 11/15/22 and still waiting for my car to be repaired.

Jan 11, 2023

The contact owns a 2019 Audi A6. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the warning message "electrical malfunction" suddenly displayed along with a red battery icon. After turning off and restarting the vehicle, the message remained displayed, but the battery icon changed to yellow. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the starter generator was faulty and needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder and would not be available for several months. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 42,000. The contact stated that the replacement part is now available but they have to wait for the installation. Audi has been notified and is aware of the issues.

Mileage: 42,000

Jan 6, 2023

Starter/Generator failure. Message: "Electrical system malfunction" Car became disabled intermittently. Brought to dealer despite no service appointment available for more than a week. Dealer advised me that 7 other A6 models were in with same issue.

Jan 6, 2023

I get a message on the dashboard while driving that the electrical system failed. There is a message later that says the "Start/Stop system: malfunction! Function unavailable. Please contact Service"

Dec 27, 2022

While driving my 2019 Audi A6 Premium Plus I received error messages: "electrical system malfunction contact service", then "start stop system malfunction contact service", then "electrical system malfunction stop vehicle safely". I went on an Audi owner internet forum and read about others with the same errors. Reports from others indicated that in about 40 miles from the first message appearing, all systems will completely shut down including the engine while you are driving. This could leave you stranded in the roadway if you are not able to pull over in time and requires a tow; the vehicle cannot be relied upon to get you to a service center at that point. My vehicle was in a parking lot at the time for a few hours. I was able to start the vehicle. It presented the first two messages immediately. I was able to drive another 10 minutes to arrive at home safely. On my way home the check engine light came on and as I got to my driveway "electrical system malfunction stop vehicle safely" appeared again. Two days have passed (where I did not operating the vehicle anymore) and I've now had the vehicle towed to my Audi dealer / service center. My service advisor called me back this afternoon saying that they confirmed starter / generator / alternator needs to be replaced. The alternator (only) is now on order for me with no ETA. He said the last one they fixed with this issue took 42 days. He said he has 6 vehicles on the lot with the same issue. This issue appears to be popping up for all early builds that has the Audi 48v MHEV (mild hybrid battery system). Other owners report they needed their 48v and sometimes 12v batteries replaced. As I mentioned earlier they only ordered the alternator at this point; I'm worried that my batteries cannot be trusted after this issue as apparently the cells in the 48v become unstable after entering this state.

Dec 21, 2022

Warning appeared for electrical malfunction contact dealer. Within 15 minutes of driving to the dealer, electrical failure please pull over appeared. My antilock breaks, transmission, and finally the entire electric panel failed. The car entirely stopped while in traffic. I was unable to even turn on hazard lights. It would not turn back on. It required towing to audi dealership. I have been told by Audi the starter generator died.

The contact owns a 2019 Audi A6. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V155000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was not working as designed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed but no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,514. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Component Failed: Believed to be Starter Generator Part number 4N0-903-028-P on 11/04/2022 Cause: Ended up stranded on the side of the highway at night with no power, to include power steering and hazard flashers. Car had to be pushed out of the high way to avoid being hit by traffic. Problem is ongoing and easily reproducible. Manufacturer confirmed faulty Starter Generator on 12/15/2022 From first indicator lamp of Electrical issue to full shut down of car was about 20 minutes.

The electrical system malfunctioned driving on the busy 422 expressway. Going at 55mph. Car dash lights up warning signs like electrical system failure, transmission, brake, power steering failure and the car shuts down in the middle of the road. Steered it to the side of road. Car would not start. Had to get it towed to dealer, Car has 33000 miles. The dealer has confirmed the failure. The component has been inspected by the dealer. Could have had a serious life threatening accident posing death or injuries to self and others.

Starter/Generator Alternator failed and caused the battery to die ultimately leading to losing full power of the car on highway. Warning lamps were present and indicated "electrical system malfunction and contact the dealer for service." Car lost full power on the way to dealership and almost resulted in a crash. Component has been inspected by the Audi Dealer and confirmed to be the issue. Symptoms appeared very quickly and within 30 minutes of the symptoms the car was inoperable.

A warning message appeared that there is an electrical system problem. I arranged to bring to dealer for service the next day. While driving to dealer, multiple malfunction messages appeared on dashboard. Eventually all displays went black and shortly thereafter the engine stopped. I rolled to a stop. Car was dead. Audi stated it needs a replacement starter/generator. Very dangerous as it happened to me on an interstate. My research shows that this is a not uncommon problem.

While driving on an interstate highway, an electrical fault warning appeared. 5 minutes later, a series of warnings appeared pertaining to a whole host of Audi systems, and I suddenly lost power to the car. I coasted off the highway to the shoulder, where the car died. I was told by the dealership that the issue is a generator, and that it's a common issue affecting A6s. It was truly disconcerting to lose power, without much warning, when driving.

Dec 6, 2022

The electrical system failed while driving at highway speeds on the interstate. Car lost power, all safety systems shutdown and I had to navigate the car while coasting off the road. Car would no longer start and left me stranded on the side of the interstate for 2hrs. I have since learned from the audi service department that the 48V generator had failed and caused this situation.

I was driving on the interstate when the vehicle gave a warning saying "electrical system malfunction, contact dealership". I went to the dealership as I was within a couple of miles and they said it could be many things and they would need to evaluate it the following week. I left with the car and attempted to drive it back the following week on the scheduled appointment. The vehicle did not make it back to the dealership. While driving on the interstate back to the dealership, a message saying, "Electrical system failure, safely exit roadway" came on. I was able to exit off the interstate immediately into a parking lot. While I was trying to exit, multiple warning lights came on saying the crash sensors were inoperable, transmission was inoperable, camera system was inoperable, and the car started shaking as if the engine was loose under the hood and it shut off and would not restart. This took less than about 90 seconds as I was at an exit and already in the right lane on the interstate. Audi Care came and towed the vehicle and the dealer says the alternator has gone bad and it is on backorder. This is exceptionally dangerous because if I were not at an exit and in heavy traffic, this could have happened while I was in the middle of the interstate and the vehicle lost all power. I've since read Audi forum and found this exact scenario has happened to many drivers who were not as lucky to be near an exit or under warranty. Audi should recall the vehicle because it puts the driver in a very dangerous situation. I was stuck in an empty parking lot for several hours waiting for a tow but I consider myself lucky after reading the experience of other drivers. My car has been in the shop for three weeks now and I'm not sure when they will have it fixed. My warranty expires in the next few months so I may end up having to pay for repairs later because my warranty expired while the car sits at the dealer and I won't be able to test if it has been resolved.

I was driving across the George Washington Bridge towards NJ and I received warning of electrical issue, then transmission warning and the car promptly shut down, leaving my wife me stranded in the right hand lane with no shoulder. Had to call 911 to get assistance. Once at the Audi dealership I was told it is an issue with the alternator/electrical system and the car is undriveable until repaired. Unfortuately the part is back ordered and the car has been at the dealer for over three weeks. According to the service team and driver forums this is a major issue with 2019 A6, A7 and they are failing at an alarming rate. Not sure when I will receive the car back and they are not providing any loaners or rentals. This repair will cost 4,000, luckily mine is under warranty.

The contact owns a 2019 Audi A6. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V155000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount time for the recall repair. The local dealer was notified of the recall notice and confirmed that the parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

While out of town the car gave an electrical system fault with a yellow warning saying find a dealr soon. Then shortly after the warning went red and while driving all systems in the car started to shut down. Steering, transmission, throttle, dash, everything went crazy. Need to to cross 2 lanes of traffic to get off main road where there was no shoulder to pull onto a side road, very scary without power steering and the transmission putting itself into neutral. Easily could have caused an accident with my wife and 2 kids in yhe car. At that point the car was dead.

On November 8, 2022, I was driving my vehicle to the Audi Arlington dealership to service an "Electrical System Malfunction" alert that had recently appeared. Approximately one mile into my drive the car completely shut down while driving. This happened while I was proceeding through an urban intersection. All systems shut down on the car simultaneously, including every screen, hazard lights, engine and power steering, to name a few. I was able to coast to a stop while only partially exit the lane of traffic. As the car was entirely nonresponsive, it needed to be towed from that point to Audi Arlington. Audi Arlington determined that the issue resulted from a 48V generator.

Received an electrical system malfunction on display. Took to dealer for diagnostics. Was told the starter/generator needed to be replaced and was going to cost $4000 but parts were on back order with no eta. It’s been 3 weeks with still no part and no loaner car available. This is ridiculous. This is a new car.

I experienced a total failure of the electric system in my 2019 A6. Car stopped running in the middle of the road. Had to use the tool in the trunk to manually switch the car to neutral so I could push it off the road. Car was towed to the Audi dealer in my area. Audi dealer reported the alternator is faulty. Yellow Electrical issue warning message showed up on, dashboard, then Red electrical issue message showed indicating the vehicle will shut down. Dealer reported “a bunch” of A6s 2019 and newer are expediting these issues and parts are on back order because of it.

Multiple warnings indicating to contact dealer (Lane departure, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, etc) then 1 minute later transmission failure and engine failure imminent.... pull over immediately and contact dealer. I turned into a road off main highway within a minute of the last two warnings and as I turned, my center MMI went blank then my electronic dash went blank, transmission went into neutral and the engine died all within a few seconds. Fortunately I was able to coast to a stop in the parking lot. Flatbed towed to dealer who stated most likely the generator between the lithium battery bank and gas engine failed. They have seen several in this year for A6 and A7's with mild hybrid engines. I'm lucky to be in low volume traffic as there was no power to indicate to drivers around me that my engine quit and not even turn signals worked.

The contact owns a 2019 Audi A6. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rearview camera and blind spot monitoring system intermittently failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer reprogrammed the computer and the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to Sewickley Audi (526 Ohio River Blvd Suite A, Sewickley, PA 15143) where the trunk cable and an unknown module were replaced. The failure recurred and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Today, car showed electrical problem then leading to steering problem, transmission problem, all sensors shutting off, all thro flashing one by one alarms and messages on dash and then coming to a complete halt. It would not allow me to come out and locked me in. I could see that the locks were kicking in so took a micro second gap between unlock and auto lock to get out of the car forcefully. I have had situations when in traffic light, the car wouldn’t move back from neutral to drive unless I tried couple of times, but this was horrible incident. Now taking it to service to see what they are going to say, not always super helpful.

I received a yellow alert that the auto start/stop was malfunctioning. I continued to drive 8 miles until another message was displayed on the instrument panel that stated: "electrical system malfunction" with a yellow battery icon. A few seconds later the same "electrical system malfunction" with a red battery icon appeared. I then had numerous failure warnings on other car systems such as driver assistance sensors and steering; the display screens started to flash on and off. I slowly guided the car to a complete stop and called Audi Roadside Assistance for towing to my local Audi dealer.

While driving on highway, had complete electrical system failure. Received red message that said “electrical system malfunction”. Car went totally black and completely shut down within 2 minutes. I had to navigate 3 lanes to pull over with completely black cockpit after car shut down. Audi service says it’s the “starter generator”. Service said there is a chance of fire with moisture ingress in the starter generator. Apparently it’s a known issue with over 60 units on back order from their supplier Continental (no promise date available). Concerned this is a serious safety issue and will cause somebody to have a crash due to car shutting down and potential for electrical fire.

I was driving on highway. There was a message "Electric system malfunction" with a yellow battery icon. A few seconds late the same message " electic system malfunction" with a red battery icon then the vehicle completely stoped on the highway .

I was slowing down to stop at a traffic light when a message was displayed on the instrument panel that says "Electrical System Malfunction" with a yellow battery icon. A few seconds later the same "Electrical System Malfunction" with a red battery icon. Then the vehicle came to a complete stop and was inoperable. There was almo smoke coming from the hood near the positive battery terminal. The smoke had an electrical smell to it. I had no opportunity to pull over and was stuck in the middle of a very busy road right at the stop line of the traffic light. My family and I had to exit the vehicle with traffic on both sides of us and get to the side of the road safely. There was no prior indication that there was a problem, this happened all within about 5-10 seconds and I had no time to try and pull over to safety. I have found other complaints about this vehicle that are similar (see under the reliability section on Consumer Reports). The dealer identified the issue as an "internal failure" of the generator and 48v battery system, but had no explanation as to why it happened nor can they guarantee it will not happen again.

I ACQUIRED THIS CAR (2.0T) TWO NIGHTS AGO AND ON THREE OCCASIONS (SO FAR) THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLS WHEN THE CAR COMES TO A STOP. NOT THE TYPICAL AUTO ON/OFF FEATURE FUNCTION. I HAVE TO RESTART THE IGNITION AND PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AGAIN. ONCE, EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. SO FAR, THE ONLY CONSISTENT SCENARIO IS WHEN I AM ON THE SECOND LEG OF A TRIP. FOR EXAMPLE, I GET IN THE CAR AT MY OFFICE, DRIVE TO A STORE OR DAYCARE. GET BACK IN THE CAR, START UP, DRIVE A COUPLE OF MILES AND THE CAR SHUTS DOWN AT A COMPLETE STOP. VERY UNNERVING ON A BRAND NEW CAR WITH LESS THAN 200 MILES ON IT. I'VE LOOKED ACROSS THE INTERNET AND IT SEEMS TO BE QUITE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE FOR VW AND AUDI DRIVERS OF RECENT MODEL CARS. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
