This Problem Across All Years
I had Recall 22V573 performed in November 2022 (see attached service record), and they found no evidence of metal in the engine. Approximately 1,000 miles later my car stopped working suddenly on the highway while driving 65 miles an hour with no warning, except 30 seconds before when some warnings flashed and back smoke started coming out the back. It was completely inoperable. This is extremely dangerous as someone could have run into me from behind. I had to push the vehicle off the highway, which is also extremely dangerous. Audi Roadside was "not available", and I had to walk to a safe area for a tow truck that took 5 hours. The recall "repair" is not enough. You cannot just look to see if there are metal shavings, and if not, assume the car will not have them in the future. ALL the engines should be replaced unless they can develop a repair for the problem that GUARANTEES this will not happen in the future. Who is to say this won't happen to someone in a year? My car has 9,000 miles and there was no evidence of the metal shavings at 8,000.

A 2022 Audi Q5 PHEV abruptly stopped and displayed three warning lights on the dashboard (electrical system malfunction, drive system malfunction, and check engine light). Car was unable to move. Had the car abruptly stopped on a highway, a serious accident may have occurred. There were no prior warnings. After restarting the car several times, the malfunction messages disappeared and the check engine light stayed on. The driver drove it less than 5 miles to the dealership after contacting the dealership to provide advance notice of the car’s arrival. On the same day, the dealership said that the check engine light cleared itself and they did not find any codes to diagnose an issue. Without a diagnosis, the dealership cannot state that a similar incident would not occur in the future. After four more days with the car, the dealership maintained that there were no codes to use for a diagnosis (reported only sporadic codes and not hard codes were found) and the car was ready for pickup. The driver will request an inspection by another Audi dealership service center. The driver has also experienced an intermittent hard brake pedal issue with this model. Issue noted at dealership in August, but not replicated and the issue still occurs infrequently.

I have had an “open case” with Audi since last April when we purchased this vehicle. 4-5 times, the car has stopped suddenly, showing “electric malfunction” message on the dashboard. It happened again yesterday and I nearly missed being in a very serious accident.

Car jerks strongly when slightly accelerate on an incline. This jerking happened 2 more times. After 10 minutes driving on highway, car dashboard shown Electrical System: Malfunction and forced immediate exit off highway. We were on road trip and have to disable hybrid system and hoped no more car malfunction for the next 600 miles home. Took car to 2 service dealers and none could find error codes. A message came on to the effect that the electric system had failed. The vehicle was not driveable and was towed to the Audi Dealership (South Coast Audi, Santa Ana, CA) the same day. I was very concerned about this issue and so contacted both the dealership and Audi USA to request that it be investigated without delay given this issue could endanger lives or cause serious injury. Despite calling the dealership and Audi USA, the vehicle has not yet to my knowledge even been inspected. The dealer advised me that because they are so busy they may not even look at it until June 20 (20 days after the incident. I called Audi USA and advise them that this is a safety concern that they must investigate. Audi USA contacted the dealer but simply advised me that they had made a request to the dealer to keep me updated. Audi has otherwise failed to take any action to investigate the cause of this.

We were driving home on the interstate when suddenly we got an “Electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” notification. We pulled over to the shoulder and were able to restart the vehicle but the check engine light was on. We were able to get to the nearest exit when the error appeared again. This time as I was pulling over, the screen went blank and I completely lost power to the vehicle. Thankfully this occurred in a very remote area and there were not a lot of cars around. If this had happened at a place without a shoulder (ex a construction zone, or a narrow winding mountain road) we would have had no place to pull over given the time between when we saw the error and when we lost power to the vehicle was only about ten seconds. At best we become a traffic obstruction. At worst if this occurred in a location with poor visibility we would be rear ended at extremely high velocity. Dealer diagnosed the issue and stated there is a tsb from audi. The fix, however, is only coming end of q3 2022. We are supposed to drive a car that could shut down at any moment in the meantime and just hope it doesn’t happen again, the dealer could not provide a fix they simply cleared the error codes. Dealer said they have had 3 other 2022 q5e come in with the same issue. The only indication of the failure came with the “Electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” error message. It appeared suddenly and we had no prior indication from the vehicle that something was wrong. We did have a check engine light after the error appeared the first time.
