The Valvetronic Actuator malfunctions. The malfunction may have been caused by a Battery Positive Cable that has corroded over time. The result is that the vehicle stops unexpectedly during acceleration. Driver safety and that of others is put at risk due to the vehicle suddenly losing power and stoping while being driven. The vehicle was evaluated by the dealer. Warning lamps were intermittent and inconsistent. To my knowledge there is no Valvetronic Actuator or Battery Cable specific warning lamps or messages. There was a 2017 recall for the Battery Positive Cable, but my specific VIN was not covered (by a few months). My VIN (1986 325I) should have been included in the 2017 recall.
The contact owned a 2006 BMW 325i. The contact stated while driving 60-65 MPH, the A/C became inoperable and made an abnormally loud sound. The contact then noticed an abnormal burning wiring odor, and there was smoke coming out of the A/C vents. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she attempted to pull to the side of the road, but could not safely do so. The contact continued driving and came to a complete stop at the traffic light, where the cabin became engulfed in smoke. The contact then pulled into a business parking lot and immediately exited the vehicle. The contact stated upon opening the hood, the contact noticed a reflection of the flame inside the hood. The contact ran into the business and asked for assistance. The contact stated that upon returning to the vehicle, the contact noticed that the fire had started from the middle of the hood to the cabin of the vehicle. The contact and the business employee attempted to extinguish the fire with two fire extinguishers but were unable to do so. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. The contact stated that the vehicle burned to the ground from the middle of the hood to the trunk, where the gas tank was located, and the hood was fractured in half. The contact stated that there were burned particles around the parking lot, but there was no property damage. The fire department report was filed. A police report was filed, but the contact did not have the information available. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

The contact's husband owns a 2006 BMW 325i. The contact stated moments after her son had started, parked and exited the vehicle, there was smoke coming from under the hood. The under hood caught on fire and the hood failed to open. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. The contact stated that the under hood, the front of the vehicle and the front tires burned significantly. A fire department report was filed. A police report was not filed. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle remained at the residence. The vehicle was awaiting to be destroyed. The dealer was contacted. The contact contacted the manufacturer and sent pictures of the incident to the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer informed the contact that the fire was not related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V119000(Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was unknown.

Vehicle Steering Lock Malfunction - Car does not start and stuck in Park. Cannot move steering wheel which is locked. This is a design defect that needs to be addressed. Vehicle is rendered inoperative! Cannot move or start it! approx. mileage 105k. This is a new problem besides the current recall which has not been available yet. I've also been locked out of this vehicle and had to climb out of the window, thank God it was not a fire or flood! I was able to fix that problem myself. note: Steering Lock Malfunction is a widespread problem! Dealers want to replace the entire steering column in these cases at a very high cost. I WAS TRAVELING TO A LOCAL STORE. MY CAR SUDDENLY JERKED,RADIO TURNED OFF WHILE LIGHTS ON DASH FLICKERED ON AND OFF. I LOST POWER TEMPORARILY AND I BEGAN SMELLING WIRES. I ALSO NOTICE A 'POP' AS I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OVER AND NOTICE NO BRAKE OPERATIONS SO I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD IN THE BACKSEAT. I STARTED MY FLASHERS AND TURN OFF CAR TO SEARCH FOR SMELL. IT SEEMS LIKE DASH BUT I DIDN'T SEE ANY SMOKE. I GET BACK IN CAR AND ATTEMPT TO START IT AND NOTHING! I STILL HAVE POWER SO I WAS CONFUSED, I CHECK TRUNK ULTIMATELY AND REMOVE BATTERY COVER AND THIS IS WHAT I FOUND! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND VERY DANGEROUS. 2006 BMW 325I THE BIODEGRADABLE WIRING HAS DETERIORATED CAUSING THE DIRECTIONAL AND HEADLAMPS TO FAIL RESULTING IN EXPENSIVE REPAIRS AND JEOPARDIZES THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVERS OF THE VEHICLE WHILE IN USE.

CANNOT ACCESS THE FUSE BOX TO DEAL WITH OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, AS IT IS LOCATED IN THE GLOVE BOX ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. IF YOU LOCK THE CAR WHILE IN IT, YOU HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW, AND USE THE KEY INSIDE THE FOB TO UNLOCK THE DOOR FROM OUTSIDE IN ORDER TO GET OUT. THE VEHICLE WON'T START, AND STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR INITIALLY, BUT 20 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. I TESTED THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY, BUT STILL NOT ABLE TO START OR TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. UPON RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, IT SEEMS TO BE THE AN ISSUE WITH THE ELV LOCKING SYSTEM.

DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE RECALL REPLACEMENT KEEPS GETTING POSTPONED FOR A FUTURE DATE FROM BMW OF HENDERSON DEAL
ELECTRICAL RECALL: ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WE HAVE PURCHASED, AND FIXED THE BMW REGULATOR ON OUR 2006 BMW 325I . AS OF LATE THE PASSENGER WINDOW ON THE RIGHT SIDE HAS BECOME JAMMED AND STUCK AND STARTED ROLLING DOWN ON ITS OWN. IN ADDITION , THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE VIEW MIRRORS HAVE ALSO INCURRED THE SAME ISSUE. ALONG WITH THE PASSENGER DOOR THAT WILL NO LONGER OPEN , WITHOUT HAVE TO MANUALLY UNLOCK, AND LOCK ONCE EXITING THE VEHICLE. I AM AFRAID SOMETHING ELSE WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL OCCUR. SAFETY IS EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY WITH A SECOND BABY ON THE WAY. SO HERE WE HAVE A WINDOW THAT IS NOT ROLLING UP AT ALL. BMW USA HAS STATED WITHIN THE RECALL THAT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW MANY VEHICLES ARE IMPACTED BY THIS ISSUE AND HAS ONLY ELECTED TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE ON A PREDETERMINED SET OF VEHICLES. THE MANUFACTURER, BMW HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE, AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THEY ADVISED THAT ALL REPAIRS ARE TO BE CUSTOMER PAID, AND HAVE REFUSED TO HONOR THEIR RECALL. ALL DOORS ARE INOPERATIVE IF ONE FUSE (#57) FAILS OR IF THE BATTERY FAILS. THIS IS A SERIOUS CONCERN ABOUT SAFETY. IF THERE IS A CRASH OR FIRE, PEOPLE CAN DIE INSIDE THE VEHICLE IF THE DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED. WHEN THIS FUSE FAILS, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES DON'T FUNCTION. THE ONLY WAY TO GET PEOPLE OUT OF THE VEHICLE IS TO REMOVE THE HIDDEN KEY FROM THE FOB, OPEN THE DRIVER'S WINDOW AND UNLOCK THE DRIVER'S DOOR. I THEN TRIED TO UNLOCK THE DOORS SIMULTANEOUSLY BY TRYING THE KEY FOB AND THE MANUAL LOCK/ UNLOCK BUTTON INSIDE OF THE CAR A FEW MORE TIMES, BUT NONE OF THE DOORS UNLOCKED THIS TIME. I WASN'T ABLE TO UNLOCK ANY OF THE DOORS WITH THE KEY FOB OR WITH THE DOOR LOCK/ UNLOCK BUTTON INSIDE THE CAR, (THE PASSENGERS WERE ALREADY IN THE CAR) SO I USED THE EMERGENCY CUT-OUT KEY LOCATED INSIDE OF THE KEY FOB TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR TO GET IN. WHEN I STOPPED TO GET GAS ON THE SAME NIGHT, I FOUND OUT THAT THE GAS CAP WAS ALSO LOCKED, SO WE LEFT. WHEN WE ARRIVED BACK AT MY RESIDENCE, EVERYONE CLIMBED OUT OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT. FINALLY, THIS MORNING AFTER I MANUALLY UNLOCKED THE CAR WITH THE EMERGENCY KEY, I NOTICED THAT THE SEAT MEMORY WAS ALSO UNRESPONSIVE. WITH LESS THAN 1/8 OF A TANK LEFT, I WILL HAVE TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WILL NOT MAKE IT ON THE GAS LEFT IN THE TANK. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE BECAUSE IF WE WERE TO HAVE GOTTEN IN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT OR WERE IN SOME UNFORESEEN TROUBLE WHILE IN THE CAR WITH ONLY SECONDS TO REACT AND GET OUT OF THE CAR, IT WOULD HAVE MOST LIKELY ENDED UP IN MULTIPLE FATALITIES BECAUSE OF THE INABILITY TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE IN A HASTY MANNER. PROBLEM RESURFACED SO I INSPECTED THE FUSE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED TO DISCOVER IT WAS BLOWN AGAIN. NOW ALL POWER DOOR LOCKS WORK EXCEPT FRONT PASSENGER. THIS ISSUE REALLY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED SOON.
