Bmw 328i Years to Avoid
The 2011 BMW 328i is the worst year to avoid, with elevated complaints about various mechanical and electrical issues. The 2007-2013 E90 generation experienced timing chain guide failures, particularly in models with the N51 and N52 engines, requiring expensive repairs. The 2012-2016 F30 generation's N20 turbocharged 4-cylinder engine suffers from timing chain and oil filter housing gasket issues. High-pressure fuel pump failures affected turbo models from this era. Electrical gremlins including water intrusion into modules plagued various years.
Best Bmw 328i Years
The 2001 model year E46 328i offers the beloved naturally-aspirated inline-6 experience with proven reliability. The 2017-2019 models (330i naming, but same segment) addressed earlier turbo engine issues. For the E90 generation, 2006 and early 2007 models with the N52 engine before timing chain issues became prevalent offer good value. Look for well-documented service history on any BMW.
