My vehicle engine cooling fan caught fire one evening while following behind someone to make sure they made it to a parking lot safely due to their own vehicle having problems requiring them to stay under around 20mph. Once we made it to a parking lot, i exited my vehicle to check on the other person, and realized there was smoke starting to come out from under my hood. My husband waited for me to pull the hood release and then proceeded to lift the hood, only to discover my car was on fire, and it was coming directly from the cooling fan. After almost a minute we were able to put the fire out, and discovered the whole electrical area for the fan was melted and destroyed. There was never any type of warning light or any information at all that would have told me a problem was imminent. Im thankful it wasn;t myself alone or with my kids just driving down the highway because it would have taken over the whole vehicle before i would have known it was having any issues at all. The part is still on the vehicle, which has become inoperable and now any attempts to check the vehicle out have realized that another issues with BMW's is also causing problems with my vehicle. It appears an actual recall was never issued for my actual VIN, rather a collection of years and makes. Any further information or remedy that might get me the ability to actually use my vehicle again would be greatly appreciated. I can also include photos and witness statements if needed,. ON ALL E90 SERIES 3 (2008 BMW 328i), the PCV VALVE FAILS AND IS WELDED INTO THE VALVE COVER, THUS IF IT LEAKS OR GETS CRACKS IN THE ORANGE MEMBRANE, IT WILL CAUSE CAR TO STALL.. I ALMOST CRASHED 2x and this part should be recalled..IT AFFECTS THE FUEL AIR RATIO IN BMW E90, AND THE CAR WILL RUN LEAN AND NOT RECEIVE ENOUGH GAS AS AIR IS LEAKING FROM THE BROKEN MEMBRANE IN THE PVC VALVE. BMW WILL THROW ENGINE CODES WITH LIT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON DASH. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THE WHOLE VALVE COVER HAS TO BE REPLACED TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE $10 PCV VALVE WHICH IS LUDICROUS...THE DEALER CHARGES thousand dollars and up to replace a ten dollar part. THE CAR HAS ROUGH IDLE AND WILL STALL, CREATING A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION AND FATAL ACCIDENT . The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the engine was misfiring. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the PCV valve heater was melted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V119000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated that the vehicle had since been sold. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.

Due to the CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE HEATER problem and BMW claiming they have no remedy for it yet, this has caused my engine to overheat smelling like burning electrical, The Container holding reserve antifreeze has broken off plastic components that may somewhere be in the cooling system. The valve cover gasket that was replaced only 3 years ago is beginning to fail and is leaking oil into the brand new spark plugs and coils. This is unacceptable. They say to stop driving the car if you smell burnt electrical. Heck, I have smoke coming from the engine at times. How are people who only have this 1 car suppose to get places when BMW delays repairing people's vehicles. They are wasting our money! They should have to repair all of the parts that this issue has caused damage to while they have us wait for remedy that seems to never come!

I have had continuous issues with the electrical system in the front drivers side headlight with burnt plastic housing to the main headlight and the plug for the blinker system. Sometimes it will work and most of the time it won't. I cant tell you the amount of times it has stopped working in the middle of using the blinker. Every time I attempt to change it out, the bulb ends up still in good shape after looking it over. I have always inserted a new one but the issue remains. I have had to replace the whole headlight unit because of the melted plastic not holding the plug any longer and the issue remains. The passenger side seatbelt light has been on for the past several years and will not go off. It shows a light stating the airbag is off. Every time I use the AC unit, I end up with a whole lot of AC condensation pouring out each side of my console soaking the floor of the vehicle and smelling horrible the next day. I don't understand how such a supposedly high quality car can have such stupid problems that cant seem to be fixed. I have had this car since 2013 and barely drive it as I have only put approx 9000 miles over the last 9 years.

The plastic power pieces that goes over the battery melted. Ever since then I have had electrical problems. My concern is when that pieces melted it could have caused a fire. I dint even know it melted till I started have electrical problems and had to look at my battery. As far as the fuel problems I have a n51 and from what I understand the parts for it are hard to find I would like to know more about the bmw 15yr/150,000 mile warrenty that the bmw forms are talking about

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V044000 (Electrical System) 17V676000 (Electrical System) and 17V683000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted bit did not inform the contact on the status of the recall repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts Distribution Disconnect.

with no warning my car just shut down as I was driving thank god I was able to pull over and park after not knowing what the problem was I inspected the battery and saw the positive cable was damaged how I don't know but it needs to be replaced I have had the car for 2 years and never had a problem it is available for inspection

Two years ago, the driver side door would not open from the inside or outside of the car (pulling on both handles didn't open it) and attempting to unlock it by the dash unlock button didn't work. . The only way to exit the car was to crawl across the front of the car and exit out the passenger side. Was told that the problem was caused by a faulty door actuator. Fast forward to today and the same thing is happening again. I can't open my front drivers side door from the inside or outside which is obviously a major safety issue. Pulling on the handle on either side doesn't open the door and using the dash unlock button doesn't help unlock it either. After doing some research on this, it looks like this is a chronic problem with BMW E90 models (mine is a 2008 328i). With this being a major safety issue and is common with this model of vehicle, is there the possibility of a recall?

THE FOTWELL MODULES ON THESE CARS ARE DEFECTIVE..THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARAANTY COVERING THIS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE FRM(OR FOOTWELL MODULE)BUT IT DOES NOT INCLUDE THIS CAR..THE CAR'S HEADLIGHTS, BRAKELIGHTS, DOMELITES STAY ON WITH CAR OFF, THUS DRAINIG THE BATTERY. THE CAR THEN LACKS POWER AND CAN SHUT OFF EVEN WHEN DRIVING CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IN THIS MODEL CAR, THESE ARE FMR2 MODULES THAT CAN'T BE REBUILT. BMW 328I HAS A SUPECEEDED PART AND I CALLED THEM AND THEY WONT COVER THE COST OR HONOR THE WARRANTY FOR THIS CAR. I HAD A BLOWER MOTOR REPLACED 2 TO 3 YEARS PRIOR TO RECALL AT A SHOP OTHER THAN BMW .BMW OF NORTH AMERICA SAID I WOULD BE PAID FOR THE PART BUT I NEEDED TO BRING IT TO BMW TO VERIFY A BMW PART WAS USED. I BROUGHT IT TO BMW OF BAYSIDE AND THEY VERIFIED IT WAS A BMW PART. I HAD A COPY OF MY BILL FROM THE REPAIR SHOP WITH THE BMW PART AND LABOR COST. I CONTACTED BMW MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE RECALL NOTICE AND HAVE BEEN STONEWALLED SINCE. JUST TWO DAYS AGO MY BLOWER MOTOR STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY AND GOT HOT UNDER THE GLOVE BOX. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS FIXED FOR OVER 1 1/2 TO NO AVAIL. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT HELPED AND I NEED TO CONSULT THE NHTSA FOR HELP. I WANT THIS PROBLEM FIXED AND I WANTED IT YESTERDAY. DUE TO THE FACT THAT BMW HAS NOT PROVIDED A SOLUTION/REMEDY FAST ENOUGH, I HAVE HAD TO TRAVEL WITH NO AIR CONDITIONING IN THE FLORIDA HEAT, WHAT MAKES IT WORSE IS WUEN IT RAINS. POWER LOCK SYSTEM FAILED TRAPPING WIFE INSIDE WHILE STOPPED ON A PARKING LOT. NO MANUAL OVERRIDE ON DOOR HANDLES. WIFE DROVE HOME AND TRIED TO USE VALET KEY REACHING FROM INSIDE THRU WINDOW TO UNLOCK DOOR. VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE. SHE DROPPED KEY. SHE WAS THEN TRAPPED. ONLY MEANS OF EGRESS AT THAT POINT AS PER ON LINE BMW REP WAS TO CLIMB OUT WINDOW. HAS HIGH POTENTIAL FOR INJURY FOR MOST FOLKS IF DONE ALONE. FORTUNATLLEY I ARRIVED ON SCENE AND UNLOCKED DOOR. IF VERY FRAIL 93 YR OLD MOTHER HAD BEEN IN PASSENGER SEAT RESCUE/EXTRACTION WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY EXCRUTIATING AND REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE. POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE CONSEQUENCES IF MEDICAL EMERGENCY. BMW PROVIDES NO WARNING OF THIS EVENTUALITY OR INSTRUCTION ON SAFE EGRESS FROM VEHICLE IF VALET KEY IS DROPPED BY DRIVER. 6 WEEKS AGO MY CAR LOST ALL POWER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC THAT HAS WORKED ON AND REPAIRED MY CAR BEFORE. THEY REPLACED THE FUSE BOX AND ALL FUSES ($678.00) WHICH DIDNT FIX THE CAR. BECAUSE THEY WERE AT AN IMPASSE WITH THE REPAIRS I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO BMW MERCEDES SPECIALIST ($110.00). MY CAR HAS BEEN AT THE SECOND SHOP FOR A MONTH....IT STILL WILL NOT START. SO, THIS WEEKEND I GOT ONLINE AND DID SOME DIGGING ABOUT THE 2008 BMW 328I REPAIR HISTORY. AS IT TURNS OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BATTERY CABLE IN MARCH ON 2013. I BOUGHT THE CAR IS JAN. 2013. DID NOT RECEIVE OR WAS I MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL. SO NOW I AM OUT $1000.00 NOT TO MENTION WHAT I OWE THE SECOND REPAIRS SHOP. AND BMW USA INFORMS ME THAT I NOW HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AT MY EXPENSE TO A BMW DEALERSHIP...AND HAVE THE CABLE REPAIRED THERE TO HAVE THE REPAIR COVERED BY BMW. FIRST OF ALL BMW IS LIABLE TO HAVE INFORMED ME OF THE RECALL...WHICH THEY DID NOT. THE CAR'S AIRBAG FAILURE WARNING LIGHT, AND SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT STARTED GOING OFF WHENEVER SOMEONE SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, INDICATING THAT THERE IS NO AIRBAG/PASSENGER SEAT BELT FUNCTION IN THE CAR. DEALER HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT AND INDICATES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. CARS UP UNTIL THE 2007 MODEL YEAR HAVE BEEN RECALLED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT BMW HAS YET TO EXTEND THE RECALL TO THE 2008 MODEL YEAR. AFTER A SCHEDULED SERVICE THE ELECTRONIC LOCKS ON THE DOORS WOULD NOT WORK. RETURNED THE CAR THE SAME DAY FOR A "FUSE" THAT HAD BLOWN. WITHIN A FEW MORE DAYS, THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN, AND REMAINED LOCKED. I HAD TO USE THE VALET/METAL KEY TO OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR AND WAS TOTALLY UNABLE TO OPEN ANY OTHER DOORS. NONE WOULD OPEN FROM INSIDE, OUTSIDE OR THE REMOTE FOB. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE A DAY TO REPAIR AFTER A DAY OF TEARING THE DOORS APART AND DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET PARTS AND TOOK SEVERAL DAYS TO REPAIR THE DOORS WITH NEW "LOCK ACTUATORS" THAT HAD ALL FAILED. WHY? HOW CAN THREE DOORS FAIL ALL AT THE SAME TIME? IT MUST BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM? DANGEROUS!!! THANK GOD I DID NOT HAVE TO DRIVE MY GRANDCHILDREN AROUND THAT WEEK. THE ONLY WAY TO GET INTO AND OUT OF THREE OF THE SEATS WOULD BE TO USE THE WINDOWS OR CLIMB OVER THE DRIVER SEAT/ CONSOLE. THIS IS SCARY AND DANGEROUS, TO NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE CAR DOOR. THE SECOND ON MARCH 5TH HAPPENED AFTER ENTERING VEHICLE, BUT 3 OF THE DOORS REMAINED LOCK, AND MY ELDERLY FATHER COULD NOT GET INTO THE VEHICLE. IN EFFECT TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE, AND THE DOORS COULD NOT BE MANUALLY OPENED NOR ELECTRONICALLY. I WAS ABLE TO PASS THE MECHANICAL KEY THROUGH THE SUNROOF FOR ASSISTANCE IN OPENING THE DRIVER'S DOOR TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION (E.G. THE PART IS CALLED SOP BATTERY SAFETY TERMINAL (BATTERY CABLE PLUS POLE). I WAS TOLD THAT THE WIRES TESTED AS "BROKEN INTERMITTENTLY." I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN THIS BATTERY CABLE WORKS CORRECTLY IT WILL SHUT OFF THE GAS PUMP SO THAT THERE WAS NO DANGER OF FIRE. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR EVEN WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE SEEMED TO BE ALL RIGHT, BECAUSE IF GAS LEAKED THE WHOLE CAR WOULD BE ON FIRE, NOT JUST THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHILE DRIVING, ATTEMPTING TO PASS A VEHICLE, I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND THE PEDAL HAD NO RESPONSE AND THE RPMS DROPPED. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ONE EVENING, MY 2008 BMW 328I COUPE BEGAN ACTING STRANGE. I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF VITAL MECHANISMS SUCH AS STEERING, POWER, LIGHTING (BOTH INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR). THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT UNUSUALLY FIRM/STIFF (NOT SPONGY OR SOFT AS IT SHOULD FEEL). AT THIS POINT, THE VEHICLE HAD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WITH THE GEAR SELECTOR STILL IN "DRIVE". I ATTEMPTED TO RE-START THE VEHICLE BUT IT FAILED TO START. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO MY APARTMENT AND THE FOLLOWING DAY, I TOOK IT TO A REPUTABLE, INDEPENDENT BMW MECHANIC. HIS DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT SOMETHING RELATED TO THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY, POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CIRCUITRY WAS FAULTY--WHICH IN TURN, KILLED THE STARTER. HE REPLACED THE BATTERY WITH A NEW OEM BATTERY AS WELL AS REPLACED THE STARTER WITH AN NEW OEM STARTER AND THE RELATED WIRING/CIRCUITRY. A FEW WEEKS LATER, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL-- MARCH 2013 RECALL NO. 13V-044 : POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM. BECAUSE THE SYMPTOMS NOTED IN THE RECALL LETTER MATCH THOSE I EXPERIENCED IDENTICALLY, I AM SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE COST OF REPAIR THAT CORRELATES TO THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, BMW STATES IT WILL ONLY REIMBURSE THE COST OF REPAIR PERTAINING TO THE SINGLE PART AT FAULT/RECALLED. THE CAUSE OF THIS RECALL IS KNOWN, BUT THEY ARE FAILING TO REIMBURSE CUSTOMERS FOR THE DAMAGING EFFECTS THAT THE FAULTY/RECALLED PART MAY HAVE HAD ON OTHER COMPONENTS. *TR

DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK. MANUAL KEY WILL WORK IN THE DRIVE SIDE DOOR OUTSIDE ONLY. OTHER 3 DOORS WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL. THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IS TO CLIMB THRU THE WINDOW OR CLIMB OUT OF THE DRIVER DOOR. DRIVER HAS TO CLIMB OUT OF WINDOW AND USE MANUAL KEY TO OPEN DOOR. MANY POST ONLINE OF THIS PROBLEM. THROUGH OUT THE PAST MONTH I HAVE HAD MY CAR TOWED THREE TIMES WITH FIVE OCCURRENCES OF THE CAR NOT CRANKING AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUTTING DOWN LEAVING ME STRANDED. OVER THE PAST YEAR THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH FOR LESS THAN 5-10 MINUTES AT THE TIME. THE FIRST INSTANCE IT WAS TOWED BMW OF MOBILE REPLACED THE BATTERY AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF TROUBLE SHOOTING EVEN THOUGH I HAD OUR LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT CHECK THE BATTERY TO BE SURE THAT WAS NOT THE ISSUE. THEY CHARGED ME OVER FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THIS BATTERY. TWO DAYS AFTER THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED I HAD IT TOWED AGAIN TO BMW OF MOBILE BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT CRANK AGAIN AND THE LIGHTS ETC. WOULD COME ON. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR OVER 5 DAYS RUNNING TEST THEN STATED THAT "NOTHING WAS WRONG." I TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD IT TOWED IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. TWO DAYS LATER IT WOULD NOT CRANK AGAIN WHEN MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I WERE AT A LATE LOCAL HIGHSCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME. THIS TIME THEY SAID THAT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL WIRE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE CAUSING THE PROBLEM CAUSING SOMETHING TO MELT NEAR THE FUSE PANEL($1,200) TO REPLACE). *TR

ON JULY 9, 2011, I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 30 MPH IN THE PROCESS OF EXITING THE PARKWAY, WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR, WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED OPERATING! THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS, AND NOTHING WORKED IN THE CAR. I WAS UNABLE TO PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS OR MORE THE STEERING WHEEL. AS THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN I KEPT TRYING TO RE-START THE CAR BUT NOTHING WORKED. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, BY USING MY EMERGENCY BRAKE, I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE KEY IN AND OUT AND HIT THE START/STOP AND THE CAR FINALLY STARTED. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO RALLYE BMW TO HAVE IT SERVICED AND ALSO CONTACTED BMW CORPORATE BECAUSE I DID NOT AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY CAR ANYMORE. I WAS REQUESTING EITHER A NEW VEHICLE OR FULL VALUE BACK ON THE CAR. BMW SERVICED THE VEHICLE AND STATED "BMW REVIEWED REMOTELY UNABLE TO REPLICATE STALLING. NO PROBLEM FOUND", AND DECIDED THAT MY CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE. I COMPLETELY DISAGREE AND FEEL THIS POSSIBLE LIFE THREATENING ISSUE SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 328I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SITTING IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE RADIO ON, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED AND COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. THE CONTACT WAS LOCKED INSIDE THE VEHICLE FOR 40 MINUTES AND WAS UNABLE TO USE THE HORN TO INDICATE THAT HE WAS TRAPPED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE POWER IN THE BATTERY IN THE KEY FOB WAS LOW, WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
