My vehicle was not included in BMW Recall "23V-707: Replace Vanos Adjustment Unit Screw Connection" but has suffered the same failure described in this recall. My VANOS adjustment unit screws came loose and caused my engine to completely stall in the middle of traffic on a very busy road [XXX] ). I lost some braking ability and narrowly avoided a major collision. I've been having issues with misfires related to my VANOS system and today I found that despite being told my vehicle wasn't affected by the recall, it is experiencing the same issue as the recall above mentioned. My vanos adjustment unit bolts on both exhaust and intake sides of the engine were all much more loose than factory specification, so much so that I was able to remove 6 of them with my fingers alone. I think there should be a full safety recall on this issue as it seems to affect a much wider variety of cars than initially thought. My vehicle engine cooling fan caught fire one evening while following behind someone to make sure they made it to a parking lot safely due to their own vehicle having problems requiring them to stay under around 20mph. Once we made it to a parking lot, i exited my vehicle to check on the other person, and realized there was smoke starting to come out from under my hood. My husband waited for me to pull the hood release and then proceeded to lift the hood, only to discover my car was on fire, and it was coming directly from the cooling fan. After almost a minute we were able to put the fire out, and discovered the whole electrical area for the fan was melted and destroyed. There was never any type of warning light or any information at all that would have told me a problem was imminent. Im thankful it wasn;t myself alone or with my kids just driving down the highway because it would have taken over the whole vehicle before i would have known it was having any issues at all. The part is still on the vehicle, which has become inoperable and now any attempts to check the vehicle out have realized that another issues with BMW's is also causing problems with my vehicle. It appears an actual recall was never issued for my actual VIN, rather a collection of years and makes. Any further information or remedy that might get me the ability to actually use my vehicle again would be greatly appreciated. I can also include photos and witness statements if needed,. The vehicle, stopped while driving, overheating, no heat/ ac. It's winter, car stopped at night in an unknown location fory safety. Had it inspected by 2 different auto shops and was confirmed of the issue. Warning lights came on right before the car failed.
ON ALL E90 SERIES 3 (2008 BMW 328i), the PCV VALVE FAILS AND IS WELDED INTO THE VALVE COVER, THUS IF IT LEAKS OR GETS CRACKS IN THE ORANGE MEMBRANE, IT WILL CAUSE CAR TO STALL.. I ALMOST CRASHED 2x and this part should be recalled..IT AFFECTS THE FUEL AIR RATIO IN BMW E90, AND THE CAR WILL RUN LEAN AND NOT RECEIVE ENOUGH GAS AS AIR IS LEAKING FROM THE BROKEN MEMBRANE IN THE PVC VALVE. BMW WILL THROW ENGINE CODES WITH LIT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON DASH. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THE WHOLE VALVE COVER HAS TO BE REPLACED TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE $10 PCV VALVE WHICH IS LUDICROUS...THE DEALER CHARGES thousand dollars and up to replace a ten dollar part. THE CAR HAS ROUGH IDLE AND WILL STALL, CREATING A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION AND FATAL ACCIDENT . 2008 BMW 328I. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO LOSS OF POWER AND STEAM COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW TO PERFORM A RECALL. ON MARCH 13, 2023 THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP AFTER REPAIRS AND THE RED WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND ENGINE WAS STEAMING ONCE AGAIN.
You guys have aluminum bolts that hold down the cylinder head they corrode or become loose thus pulling up the cylinder head and the head gasket is protruding out the front of the cylinder head causing oil and coolant to leak on to the belt causing the serpentine belt to slip off while it's raining and eventually causing a blown head gasket it's because of the aluminum bolts on the top of the engine that hold the cylinder head down the head gasket protrudes out the sides on the front where the camshaft sensors are and leaks onto the belt plus causing the belt to come off the track and possibly get sucked into the engine it's not something easy to get to or to fix for a person with low income

Due to the CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE HEATER problem and BMW claiming they have no remedy for it yet, this has caused my engine to overheat smelling like burning electrical, The Container holding reserve antifreeze has broken off plastic components that may somewhere be in the cooling system. The valve cover gasket that was replaced only 3 years ago is beginning to fail and is leaking oil into the brand new spark plugs and coils. This is unacceptable. They say to stop driving the car if you smell burnt electrical. Heck, I have smoke coming from the engine at times. How are people who only have this 1 car suppose to get places when BMW delays repairing people's vehicles. They are wasting our money! They should have to repair all of the parts that this issue has caused damage to while they have us wait for remedy that seems to never come!
I have had continuous issues with the electrical system in the front drivers side headlight with burnt plastic housing to the main headlight and the plug for the blinker system. Sometimes it will work and most of the time it won't. I cant tell you the amount of times it has stopped working in the middle of using the blinker. Every time I attempt to change it out, the bulb ends up still in good shape after looking it over. I have always inserted a new one but the issue remains. I have had to replace the whole headlight unit because of the melted plastic not holding the plug any longer and the issue remains. The passenger side seatbelt light has been on for the past several years and will not go off. It shows a light stating the airbag is off. Every time I use the AC unit, I end up with a whole lot of AC condensation pouring out each side of my console soaking the floor of the vehicle and smelling horrible the next day. I don't understand how such a supposedly high quality car can have such stupid problems that cant seem to be fixed. I have had this car since 2013 and barely drive it as I have only put approx 9000 miles over the last 9 years.
My car will not start up to show ignition lights… blinks fast then shuts off / will not crank / after flashing lights on dash service engine light appears & car has smoking from under hood
Keep getting the p0015 code changed all sensors that come with code and I keep getting a high pitched noise once car gets hot.

ON 8/27/20, TISHA OF BMW NJ OFFICE CLAIMS DEALER IS RESPONSIBLE BUT SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL OUTSTANDING. I TOOK IT TO DEALER CRITZ OF SAVANNAH, GA ON 8/27 WHO CLAIM THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THAT BMW ARE NOT BUILT TO LAST 12 YEARS. IT COST AT LEAST $4000 IF NOT MORE TO FIX A RECALL ITEM THAT BMW ISSUED FEB 2018 FOR THIS AND NEVER SENT TO US. IN 2018 , THEY RECALLED THIS CAR FOR OTHER SAFETY ISSUES (SEE ATTACHED) BUT HID THIS MAJOR DEFECT THEY KNEW ABOUT IN 2/2018. I AM ATTACHING A RECALL THAT MY AUTO REPAIR GAVE ME THAT WAS NEVER EVER GIVEN TO ME BY DEALER NOR SENT FROM BMW NA . I NEED YOUR HELP TO HAVE BMW NA EXTEND THE RECALL AND PAY FOR FOR THIS LIFE THREATENING MANUFACTURER DEFECT . THIS WAS HIDDEN FROM THE PUBLIC AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY . I SPENT $5,306 OVER 5 DIFFERENT BILLS FROM 4/1/2013 THROUGH 12/18/2015 WHICH I WILL ATTACH. AS OF TODAY, 2/26/2018 THE CAR IS AT THE SHOP AND A NUMBER OF ISSUES WERE PRESENTED INCLUDING SPARK PLUG IGNITION, POWER STEERING IN 3 POINTS (RESERVOIR SUCTION HOSE, FLUSH FLUID), REAR DIFFERENTIAL, PINION SEAL, BOTH AXLE SEALS, NEEDED RESEAL AND REBUILT, MOTOR VALVE COVERS, LEAK IN SUSPENSION, AND ADDITIONAL ISSUES I COULD BARELY KEEP UP WITH WRITING DOWN AS THE MECHANIC WAS SPEAKING THEM OVER THE PHONE. THIS IS WELL-DOCUMENTED ON BMW FORUMS. THE ADAPTIVE DRIVER MEMORY LOGIC CAUSES A THROTTLE LAG OF UP TO 1 SECOND. THIS LAG CAN BE TEMPORARILY ELIMINATED BY RESETTING THE THROTTLE BODY ADAPTION. THE UNNECESSARY THROTTLE LAG CAUSES AN UNNECESSARY SAFETY HAZARD BY DELAYING THE CAR'S THROTTLE RESPONSE. BMW SHOULD ISSUE A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT ALLOWS OWNERS TO PERMANENTLY DISABLE OR LOCK DOWN THE FEATURE. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS MAINLY WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED AN IN-GEAR. WHEN THE DRIVER DEPRESSES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE COMPUTER DELAYS THE SIGNAL TO THE THROTTLE BODY BY UP TO 1 SECOND. THIS DELAY INCREASES THE LIKELIHOOD OF A COLLISION BY CAUSING AN THE CAR TO UNNECESSARILY RESPOND IN A MANNER THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE DRIVER'S INTENT. THERE IS A 5-STEP PROCEDURE THAT OWNERS CAN FOLLOW TO TEMPORARILY RESET THE THROTTLE BODY ADAPTION, BUT THE COMPUTER EVENTUALLY RE-LEARNS THE UNSAFE BEHAVIOR. BMW HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED IN SEVERAL BMW MODELS, ENGINES, AND MODEL YEARS, INCLUDING THE 328I, THE 528I, THE 750LI, AND OTHERS. IN MY CASE, I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND CHANGE LANES QUICKLY IN ORDER TO AVOID AN OBSTACLE. THE DRIVER BEHIND ME INTERPRETED THE CAR'S DELAY AS INACTION AND PERFORMED THE SAME MANEUVER, SUBSEQUENTLY CAUSING A REAR-END COLLISION WHEN ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT ALSO ACCELERATED AND MOVED INTO THE OTHER LANE AND CAUSED SEVERAL CARS TO STOP. IF MY CAR HAD RESPONDED APPROPRIATELY WHEN I APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE TOW TRUCK BEHIND ME MIGHT HAVE DELAYED HIS ACTION.

AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ONE EVENING, MY 2008 BMW 328I COUPE BEGAN ACTING STRANGE. THE INTERIOR OVERHEAD LIGHTS AS WELL AS MOST ALL OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS (RADIO, HAZARD BUTTON, ON-BOARD COMPUTER ETC.) BEGAN TO FLICKER ACCOMPANIED BY A TICKING NOISE IN SEQUENCE WITH THE FLICKERING. THE VEHICLE WAS ACTING AS THOUGH IT WAS ABOUT TO SHUT DOWN; THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO PULL OVER. AS I PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD, THE STEERING BECAME MORE DIFFICULT AND THE FLICKERING BECAME MORE FREQUENT. WHILE COMING TO A STOP (TRAVELING AT ABOUT 10MPH), THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF VITAL MECHANISMS SUCH AS STEERING, POWER, LIGHTING (BOTH INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR). THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT UNUSUALLY FIRM/STIFF (NOT SPONGY OR SOFT AS IT SHOULD FEEL). AT THIS POINT, THE VEHICLE HAD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WITH THE GEAR SELECTOR STILL IN "DRIVE". I ATTEMPTED TO RE-START THE VEHICLE BUT IT FAILED TO START. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO MY APARTMENT AND THE FOLLOWING DAY, I TOOK IT TO A REPUTABLE, INDEPENDENT BMW MECHANIC. HIS DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT SOMETHING RELATED TO THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY, POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CIRCUITRY WAS FAULTY--WHICH IN TURN, KILLED THE STARTER. HE REPLACED THE BATTERY WITH A NEW OEM BATTERY AS WELL AS REPLACED THE STARTER WITH AN NEW OEM STARTER AND THE RELATED WIRING/CIRCUITRY. A FEW WEEKS LATER, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL-- MARCH 2013 RECALL NO. 13V-044 : POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM. BECAUSE THE SYMPTOMS NOTED IN THE RECALL LETTER MATCH THOSE I EXPERIENCED IDENTICALLY, I AM SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE COST OF REPAIR THAT CORRELATES TO THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, BMW STATES IT WILL ONLY REIMBURSE THE COST OF REPAIR PERTAINING TO THE SINGLE PART AT FAULT/RECALLED. THESE COMPLAINTS WERE FROM 328XI AND I OWNERS AS WELL AS MANY OTHER MODEL NUMBERS AROUND THE 2008 MODEL YEAR. I READ THAT BMW IS THE ONLY AUTO MAKER THAT USES ALUMINUM RATHER THAN STEEL BOLTS AND COULD NOT FIND ANY RECALL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
