I have problems consistent with SI B11 07 14- VANOS gear bolt breaking. BMW lied and said that the problem affected only 200,000 cars when in reality it affected a lot more cars. I am losing oil at a slow rate but after than normal oil loss of a healthy engine and have no external leaks, meaning there is an internal leak. I have a metallic rattling noise as well. These problems are consistent with broken VANOS gear bolt(s). I also have a timing issue code popping up with a check engine light that can be caused by this incident. The car is available for inspection upon request. If the problem persists, the engine could experience critical failure causing harm to the components as well as the driver/passengers. I have not been to a dealer yet. I have a scheduled appointment with NEW COUNTRY BMW on Monday to address the airbag issue. A diagnostic for the issue would cost a lot of money that I do not have.
The recall for the failed Vanos bolts has been issued for over half a year, and no remedy is available. It does not make sense to wait this long for an engine fix recall. Before the remedy is available, some BMW owners have even experienced engine failure due to the Vanos bolts issue, but there is no compensation. Please put pressure on them to address this recall in a timely manner. Thank you!
My 2010 BMW is under Recall 23V707 for vanos bolt replacement since October 2023. The check engine light is now on, and the dealer still (May 10, 2023) reports that BMW North America has not sent out replacement bolts. Six months seems like a long time for BMW to not be able to find new bolts and Valve Gasket Covers for the affected vehicles.
My wife was driving on the highway when the engine suddenly stalled on her. She had never been through this situation and had no idea what to do. She tried to turn it back on but it would not start. She was frightened, the vehicle was partially on the slow lane and on the shoulder. She turned on the emergency blinkers and immediately called me freaking out, I told her to compose herself, watch her surroundings, to get away from the vehicle and closer to the shoulder. The fact that this happened out of nowhere in the middle of the highway put my wife and others in danger. Luckily she reacted quickly and started making her way towards the shoulder on the right. This could've caused an accident, injuries or even death. A good samaritan stopped and helped her move the bmw out of the lane and into the shoulder. The reason why this occurred to the vehicle is because of the Vanos timing chain assembly. I had Christian Brothers Automotive diagnose a check engine light and a noise that was coming from the engine on March [XXX]. They warned me that this could've happened and to take it to the dealer because it has an open recall on it. I called the bmw dealership and told me they couldn't do anything about it because they did not have a remedy at this time. We knew it was a risk but it's the only car she has to use to work. She strictly used it just for work for that same reason. After it broke down, I got it towed to my house and had an independent mechanic diagnose the issue and he confirmed as well that it was the Vanos timing chain assembly. I towed it to my nearest BMW dealership and told them the situation and about the recall. They said they will diagnose it and look into the recall. We just really need this fixed as soon as possible. Right now I'm having to drop her off at work and she has to find an Uber back home because I'm still working. I'm hoping that with this report, it will help me and others get the problem fixed that we desperately need. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (F
Remedy is still unavailable. NHTSA released recall in October 2023 and BMW notified me of the recall in December 2023. It has been 6 months since the initial recall without remedy which I consider to be an unreasonable period of time. I am concerned that this issue could cause an accident as stated in the recall notice.
My vehicles check engine light came on, and the car started to misfire and idle hard when driving. Jack Furrier Tire and Auto ran the code, and it came back with peoblems with the cam shaft. I brought it to BMW, and VANOS bolt (recall) code was confirmed, but they told me it was a problem with internal piece missing from the oil filter. I asked if the car was safe to drive, and they confirmed and also told me the car is having other mechanical issues I should be aware of. The service agent described possible future problems with transmission and told me that there was no remedy available for recall yet, so I need to wait. I paid to have oil filter replaced. A week later, I was driving myself to work and my daughter to daycare when the car began to stall out and misfire in traffic. After bringing it back to the dealership, they replaced 1 spark plug free of charge and advised me that the car was coming back with other codes. I addressed the safety risk and the continued mechanical breakdown of the car systems if I continued driving it, and I was encouraged to trade the vehicle somewhere. I will attach an email I sent detailing further frustration I have experienced with BMW. After speaking with customer relations, I received the same reply, which is yes, there is a safety risk it is minimal and unfortuanly, there is no remedy available yet. The following was my reply when asked to complete customer survey: I am getting no help with a car that has a recall on it and being told the exact thing at every level I have presented my legtimate concerns. With no viable or reasonable options. I basically have to continue driving my car and risk car further breaking down and put my family's safety at risk with hope that "it's low probabilty". Somehow, these are my only options on a vehicle with a recall.
Approximately, a year ago I took my vehicle to the BWM dealership in Columbus, GA due to a burning smell. The vehicle was making a strange metal on metal noise. I could not figure where the noise was coming from. The check engine light appeared while the constantly would cut off while driving on the highway and idling at red lights and stop signs. At times the vehicle was hesitant to start. After examining my vehicle, the BWM dealership of Columbus, GA told me that they did not see anything wrong and returned the car to me. I have called several times complaining about the same issue. Today, on January 18, 2024, I called with safety recall information and was told that the part is not in, and the remedy is unavailable. This has been going on now for over a year which means I haven't been able to drive my car for a year. Can someone please help?
I been searching for this problem for a while and found that the problem is related to Vanos bolts, my car was not included into the BMW recall and is suffering for loose of broken Vanos Adjusters Bolts, Codes I am getting are 2A7A and 2A87 and the car goes into emergency mode. 2A7A - DME - Variable Camshaft Timing Control, Exhaust ,Cold Start 2A87 - DME - Exhaust Vanos, Mechanism There is something you can do about it? Thanks [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) Thanks Yuberth Mendoza
The contact owns a 2010 BMW 328I. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V707000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. 2010 328i bmw That I own. Vehicle will not start. I had to leave it where it sits as we speak at my baby mamas apartment complex in Lacey Washington. Very dangerous and strong smell a burning smell I am finally after getting the trunk open come to find out that my battery was more than just “smoldering” and the positive terminal was melted all the way to the point where we panic and I had to disconnect it because it was red hot actually the bolts are melted together im sure and probably won’t be coming apart. I had to leave my key in the ignition and I left the car there after speaking to the apartment complex managers asking them not to do it. I’ve been trying to contact the BMW dealer and ask them what my next step is and getting it fixed as there is an active Recall on it because of the PCV valve not being up to specifications and could cause a short and “an extremely rare cases can you catch fire. Which unfortunately happen to be my luck. The car is still in Lacey Washington and I don’t know whether to get it towed to the dealer in Tacoma Washington being that the guy on the phone was a complete a******* and told me to not get it towed there that they’re just going to get it towed out of there. At this point I do not know what to do but I need help in expressing the amount of Beyond safe and liability on this recall through BMW to
The car is experiencing rough idles and an imbalance in the overall performance. The PCV valve is not allowing enough air to return to the combustion chamber, creating a rough idle as the levels are imbalanced. It’s also causing a lean air to fuel mixture, oil leaks and increased fuel consumption. The PCV valve hoses became blocked by built-up moisture causing high pressure to be built up in the engine crankcase. The only way for this high pressure to escape is up through the cylinders and out of the gaskets, thus causing the gaskets to lose their seals. Oil is now able to leak out of the gaskets because the seal has been ruptured. I’ve already spent thousands of dollars on services including gasket changes.
1.) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer: My motor/engine gave out on me. No the vehicle is not available due to the fact that it was towed and too expensive for me to take out of the impound. My vehicle was then taken from me since I couldn’t pay to have it taken out ! 2.) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? ANSWER: I was put at risk by being broken down on the side of the turnpike/highway in my state for over an hour without a cell phone to call for help. I had no choice but to accept a ride from a stranger, putting my life at jeopardy for a second time 3.) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? ANSWER: Im not familiar with the details of this question. But yes the dealer was made aware 4.) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? ANSWER: The car was brought to a bmw dealership where nothing was done to resolve the problem Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? ANSWER: YES
- Engine timing bolts loosened and sheered off. - Car stalled while running. - Other Vehicles (BMW 328i 2010) have recalls on bolts, mine VIN was not selected for recall. - manufacturer checked and flagged previous recall from 2014. - Vehicle performance effected.
Had my car checked at the dealer to confirm PCV heater issue (22V-119) after smelling burning plastic while driving in cold weather. I was told nothing was wrong and I need several different repairs totaling nearly $2000. Car overheated with a failed water pump days later. Dealer is outright refusing to provide any resolution outside of paying out of pocket for towing, repair, and rental.
The car overheating due to the pcv valve heater core. Causing severe damage to my engine. Good have put me in danger. BMW should have taken care of this a long time ago if there was a issue with it. Now my car is damaged and undrivable. I need a new engine. It could have caught fire.

THIS VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO TWO RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE BLOWER MOTOR WIRING AND PCV VALVE HEATER. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SMOKE AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON JANUARY 8, 2018. THE ACTUAL NOTICE OF RECALL WAS SENT OUT TO OWNERS, PRIOR TO THAT. IT IS NOW APRIL 12, 2018 AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING REGARDING THE REPAIRS TO THIS PROBLEMS. THE DEALER TO WHICH I TOOK THE VEHICLE SAID, ONLY "WE HAVE NO IDEA - IT COULD BE MONTHS". THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, AND I AM WONDERING WHAT MY REMEDIES MIGHT BE. I NOW HAVE AN INOPERABLE VEHICLE, UTILIZING A PARKING SPACE THAT I PAY FOR AND, ALTHOUGH BMW IS PAYING FOR A RENTAL CAR, IT IS NOT A BMW. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

OVER THE COURSE OF THREE DAYS, WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 BMW 328I ON A HIGHWAY AT A RATE OF SPEED OF 65-70 MPH, THE MOTOR STALLED, SHUT OFF, DIED, LOST POWER CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO GET TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE BY FORWARD MOMENTUM ALONE. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD HAVE NO IDEA THAT MY CAR HAS NO POWER. AFTER SITTING FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES, I TRIED STARTING THE CAR AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT AS THOUGH NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. I CALLED MY BMW DEALER AND AM BRINGING IT THERE TOMORROW. HE SAID THAT THE REPAIRS MAY BE COVERED AND THAT THEY WOULD KNOW BETTER AFTER LOOKING AT THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH IT. THE CAR ONLY HAS DIED WHILE TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE FROM WORK, I WAS AT A RED LIGHT WHEN MY VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A RATTLING NOISE AND CUT OFF. IT WASN'T IN MOTION AT THIS POINT AND IT WOULDN'T START AFTER CUTTING OFF. I HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEIR REPORT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN, SO I HAD I TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP (TOM BUSH BMW ON ATLANTIC BLVD),WHERE THEY CURRENTLY HAVE IT. RIGHT NOW, JUST TO OPEN THE ENGINE TO SEE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE IS A $700 LABOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH IS RATHER PRICEY!!!. I SAW THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON SOME OF THEIR OTHER BMW VEHICLES CONCERNING THE TIMING CHAIN AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE 3 SERIES IS A PART OF THAT RECALL?? MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND SHOULDN'T BE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TIMING CHAIN. YOUR ASSISTANCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS!

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON THE INTERSTATE MY CAR BEGAN TO HESITATE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE PROBLEMS WITH HESITATION BECAME WORSE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 50 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY AND WOULD ALMOST STALL WHEN I CAME TO A STOP. TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILINING IGNITION COIL IN CYLINDER #3 WHICH WAS REPLACED. ON 11/28 THE CAR STARTING DOING THE SAME THING. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP THAT WAS CLOSER TO MY WORK BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I FELT VERY UNSAFE. AT THIS TIME THE CAR HAS 53440 MILES ON IT. RIGHT OUT OF WARRANTY! I CALLED BOTH DEALERSHIPS AND COME TO FIND OUT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL BMW. I WAS CHARGED $681.06 FOR A KNOWN ISSUE AND THIS BEING THE 2ND TIME MY CAR HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. THIS TIME THE FAILURE WAS IN CYLIDERS 2 AND 6! AND WAS TOLD TO PAY TO REPLACE ALL AS THEY WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL! I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP BMW OF TOWSON AND NEVER RECEIVED A RETURN CALL. I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR THIS SERVICE AS BMW OF CATONSVILLE WOULD HAVE DONE THE REPLACEMENT FOR FREE AS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. I COULDNT DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO BMW OF CATONSVILLE BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD NOW ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM CONTINUING TO LOOK FOR A REFUND OF $681.06 AS I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR SOMETHING THAT BMW SHOULD HAVE RECALLED. *TR

I STARTED MY CAR AND BEGIN PULLING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT. WHEN I SHIFTED FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE AND PULLED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO PUSH THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE REDUCED POWER SIGNIFICANTLY, STALLED, AND THE CAR DIED ON ME WITHIN A FEW SECONDS. THERE WERE SEVERAL MESSAGES THAT APPEARED ONCE THE ENGINE HAD DIED INCLUDING "ENGINE MALFUNCTION", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" AND "DSC - REDUCED DRIVABILITY". THE LATTER STATED THAT IT WAS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR THOUGH CAUTION SHOULD BE USED. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRIED RE-STARTING THE ENGINE, IT WOULD CRANK AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO START, BUT WOULD NOT ACTUALLY START. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET A FEW PEOPLE IN THE AREA TO PUSH ME SAFELY OUT OF THE ACTIVE TRAFFIC LANE I WAS STALLED IN INTO A PARKING SPOT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP WHERE CAUSE OF ISSUE IS STILL BEING DIAGNOSED; SO I STILL DO NOT KNOW ROOT CAUSE FOR THIS MALFUNCTION. LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THIS HAPPENED, HOWEVER, THE THOUGHT THAT THE ENGINE COULD JUST STOP AND DIE ON ME AT ANY POINT, SUCH AS WHEN DRIVING AT 60+ MPH ON THE FREEWAY, IS RATHER TERRIFYING. FURTHER, GIVEN THE LOW MILES AND YEARS ON THE CAR, RUNNING INTO SUCH A SERIOUS ISSUE IS RATHER UNSETTLING. *TR

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTE CAMPAIGN NO. 14V-176 VANOS ASSEMBLY BOLTS ON MY 2010 BMW 328I IN JUNE. IT IS NOW THE END OF AUGUST AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT REPAIRS. THE NEAREST GARAGE HASN'T THE PARTS AND SAYS NOTHING OF THE SAFETY OF MY FAULTY VEHICLE OR WHEN PARTS MAY APPEAR. I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN SAFELY DRIVE THE CAR. I NEED TO USE IT, BUT THE LETTER SAYS IT CAN CAUSE A CRASH. HOW LONG WILL THIS CRAP GO ON? I TRIED TO CONTACT BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE OVER A WEEK AGO.....NO RESPONSE. I TRIED TO CALL THE VEHICLE SAFETY OFFICE AT FED GOV.....LONG WAIT ON THE PHONE.....I CAN'T GET ANY ANSWERS FROM ANYBODY. IT'S LIKE THE WHOLE COUNTRY HAS GONE ON VACATION. WHO'S IN CHARGE? WHEN WILL MY CAR BE FIXED? CAN I DRIVE THE CAR IN THE MEANWHILE WITHOUT RISKING MY LIFE? *TR

I WAS TRAVELING ON THE PA TURNPIKE NEAR THE QUAKERTOWN EXIT AT 75 MPH IN THE LEFT HAND LANE WHEN MY CAR SHUT DOWN AND CAME TO A STOP IN ACTIVE TRAFFIC. AS THE CAR WAS SHUTTING DOWN I HAD DIFFICULTY STEERING BUT WAS ABLE TO BRAKE. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE ERROR CODES OR LIGHTS TO INDICATE ISSUE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD ROLL BUT I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. I CALLED 911 FOR ASSISTANCE. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT A STATE FARM HIGHWAY WORKER STOPPED TO PROTECT ME FROM HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC COMING UP BEHIND ME UNTIL I COULD BE SAFELY MOVED OFF OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO WEST GERMAN BMW IN FORT WASHINGTON, PA. COST FOR THE ABOVE SERVICE WAS PAID FOR BY BMW UNDER A "WARRANTY EXTENSION" AS THIS IS A "KNOWN ISSUE." I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS NO RECALL OR SERVICE NOTICES HAVE BEEN SENT BY BMW TO INSPECT OR REPAIR FAILING FUEL LINES. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE ISSUES FOUND IN MY CAR ARE EXCEPTIONALLY SERIOUS AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT. FURTHERMORE THESE REPAIRS WILL APPEAR ON MY CARFAX AND WILL POSITION MY CAR TO OTHER BUYERS AS ONE WITH MAJOR ISSUES. DURING INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCESS SEVERAL ISSUE WERE NOTED. 1. NO FAULTS WERE STORED IN THE VEHICLE. 2. UPON CHECKING THE FUEL PRESSURE, NONE WAS FOUND @ RAIL 3. UPON REMOVING THE FUEL TAN COVER THEY DISCOVERED THAT A HOSE POPPED OFF INSIDE THE TANK 4. AFTER REATTACHING, THEY WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, ONLY TO HAVE THE HOSE COME OFF AGAIN THE NEXT DAY AS IT WAS GOING THROUGH THE COURTESY CAR WASH 5. AFTER OPENING THE CAR AGAIN, THEY FOUND THAT THE FUEL LINE THAT WAS CLAMPED ON "LINE A" RUPTURED, FULL FUEL TANK AND ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. *TR
