RE: Recall on 2011 328i Vin# [XXX] I drove the car to run an errand, car was running ok but had a miss. During my drive home, the car stalled. I had to quickly coast to a parking lot in order not to get hit by the car behind me. I tried to restart the car, but it acted as if it needed a jump. Tried to jump the car but it turned over slowly without starting. Ended up getting it towed to Metairie very early the next morning, due to parades. Had a friend of mine, a BMW shop owner, take a look at the car. He told me that he found out that it had a few recalls and he thought that may be the problem. I spoke with a service advisor at BMW dealer that checked the vin and said the recalls would be taken care of along with anything it caused. I made the appointment and had it towed to BMW dea;er. I was assigned to Erin C, Service Advisor, when I made my appointment. My appointment was for 7:30 AM on the 28th of March. I heard from Erin at 4:30 that afternoon with an update. She told me that I had a seized engine and it was going to cost ten thousand or more to replace the engine. I asked if the recall was done on it, because the recall stated that one of the indicators of the Vanos issue was that it would not start any more. I also found information saying that stalling, engine seizing, and oil starvation can be dangerously caused by the recall. Erin stated that they would take the valve cover off to confirm. Didn’t hear from her on Friday, or over the weekend. I got her on the phone Monday evening at 5:30 PM. Erin told me the same information that after they took off the valve cover and videoed it (have not seen that video yet). That my engine was seized. She assured me that they hooked up the car to communicate with the engineers who confirmed, from all the evidence, that the engine seizing was not caused by the recall but lack of oil circulation. If she had a diagnostic done on the car, she had not shared any codes found with me at this INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATIO
i took my car in for the vanos bolts recall at a bmw dealership they said they could fix the car.keep in mind i drove the car there just fine and now there saying its gonna cost $3300 to fix my car and its not drivable and idk what to do because im not spending that much money when i took my car in for a recall
The vehicle has been under recall for over a year and the fix is known and takes approximately 4 hours. BMW has had ample time to coordinate a repair, please enforce the repair for the vehicle.
Nothing has malfunctioned yet on the vehicle, however, these recalls are putting my daughter at risk while driving as there is an air bag and engine recall on the vehicle. Every time we contact the dealership, the recall is still unavailable.

My car has the same issue as other BMW 328i made in 2011. however, when i put the vehicle vin number in my car does not pull up this as a recall. The Camshaft timing bolts are kicking off a check engine light. There is already a recall on this for other cars like mines see campaign 23V707000. Not sure what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had my car towed to BMW Northwest in fife on October 8th to have my recalled fixed for the vanos bolts that can cause engine problems. My car had shut down the day prior I couldn’t drive it. Through October 8 all the way till the 31st I had been in contact with BMW checking on the status of my car .. I have text messages between me and BMW about my car . I was told that 4 vanos bolts broke off into my engine and that bmw couldn’t find them they had to take my engine apart.. Then on October 31 I had got a call from BMW saying that they could not fix the the recall due to sludge on my engine, and that the reason that my engine had shut down was due to power maintenance . My car has all maintained regular oil change and kept up with the maintenance. So now BMW is trying to give me my car back with the Vanos bolt still stuck in the engine in my car not starting and they said they were not gonna fix the recall.
Recall for 2011 BMW 328i PCV Heater valve was conducted on or around March 12, 2023 at my local BMW private shop Bimmer Engineering located in Lancaster, CA. After service was performed was contacted by BMW representative that this service I paid out of pocket would be reimbursed, but would need to take to BMW dealership to be inspected to ensure BMW part had been replaced properly and with the authorized OME part manufactured by BMW. Vehicle was inspected at the Valencia BMW dealership on or around March 15, 2023 and verified manufactured part was replaced properly. After submitting a claim, letters, and invoices to BMW North America which concluded roughly a year later. I was informed that the reimbursement would not be honored due to recall not affiliated and TREAD ACT does not apply. This information was provided on or around October 11, 2024 by Executive Customer Care Relations and Services Specialist Kurt Westrich.
There is a Voluntary Safety Recalled #23V707 issued for my 2011 BMW 328i that deals with the Vanos Solenoid. My VIN is not included on this recall per website. My check engine light diagnosis shows a vanos solenoid issues. Dealership replaces vanos solenoid. Light comes back on, now the whole unit needs to be replaced. I separately went to a German mechanic and he communicated two times that my issue should be covered under the recall. How is this not associated with the safety recall issued in October 2023? Wouldn’t faulty bolts directly impact the engine and cause the whole unit problems? I feel terrified driving my car as I transport my elderly parents and fear for our safety.
Recall No. 23V-707 information from BMW North America was received in December 2023. No further communication or remedy has been provided by bmw. Per information letter, a compliant can be filed to nhtsa if bmw does not provide a remedy in a timely manner. Since it has been 9 months since this recall was issued and no timely fix from bmw, please follow up on this compliant with bmw. Thank you.
Check engine light with code for timing error, Intake VANOS bolts are damaged are verified via visual inspection with a bore scope. Code P0012: Intake Camshaft Position Timing- Over-Retarded (Bank 1)
My engine has been giving me trouble and my car is now unsafe to drive. There was factory recall issued for the VANOS system in my engine back in October 2023. The VANOS system is where I am experiencing the problems. It has now been 9 months since the recall was issued and there has yet to be a remedy available. I don't feel that a solution is being found in a timely manner. I am unable to drive my car safely until a remedy is found.
I was driving down the highway when the car started to stall and it sounded like it wanted to shut down. The engine light came on and the airbag light on. I pulled over to the side of the road and the car started jittering and the engine was stalling and making a hit pitch noise. This incident was really dangerous in the highway where sometimes you don’t have enough time to pull over especially with engine problems. I had to pay to tow my car from the high way to my house because the dealership wouldn’t take it in to fix it, they want to charge me for a diagnostic check to see what is wrong with it but my issue is that if I pay for this and they want to charge me for other work and at the end of the day the issue is still happening, I don’t want to waste thousands of dollars when I know the problem is coming from the recall that it needs and it’s been on standby for almost a year. This is really un safe and now I am out of a car because it is now non- operational. This issue is exactly the same as the recall issues they describe on your online site.
I received recall notice 23V-707 in December 2023. In January of 2024, less than a month after receiving the notice for recall 23V-707, the SES light came on. The recall letter states that if this happens do not continue to drive your vehicle. You should immediately bring the vehicle in for recall repairs. I contacted my local BMW dealership and was told to bring the vehicle in, but there was nothing they can do at that time and there is nothing they can do at this time. I have contacted BMW's consumer relations department and have been given the same information. There has been no subsequent information or update by BMW. It is now June 2024; I feel this recall has not been handled in a timely matter. Had I brought my vehicle into my local BMW dealer 6 months ago, where would they have stored it, they do not have the space to keep my vehicle protected from the elements and they could not or would not answer that question. My vehicle that is not to be driven per the recall 23V-707 letter sits safely in my garage. The appearance is that BMW has no sense of urgency to make repairs to these older vehicles.
My car falls under Safety Recall 23V-707 VANOS. This RECALL came out around October 2023...today we are in June 2024 and BMW has not taken care of this problem yet. Eight months have passed and they still say "no remedy available". Are they taking responsibility if someone has a catastrophic accident while driving these recalled vehicles? Will they pay hospital/funeral expenses if someone gets hurt or die? I am scared of driving my car and had to find alternate transportation thanks to BMW and their ineptitude to take care of this problem in a timely manner.... BTW...they are not covering the expense of the alternate transportation costs.... When will the NHTSA take action to get this fixed? Eight months of waiting are too much already. Thanks.
The engine started stalling and rough riding. Now it will not start. The issue is with one of the recalls that there is no remedy for. I have a car that I cannot drive and that I am still paying for.
Engine running rough. Stalls on occasion.
This recall (23V-707) was announced 6 months ago and yet the status is “remedy not available” so I’m submitting a complaint that this recall is not being handled in a timely manner.
BMW issued a recall 10/23/2023 for VANOS Assembly (Engine) Bolts and I have been trying to get my vehicle repaired since January 2, 2024 when my care started having a rough running engine with the Check Engine lamp illuminated and the car was barely maintaining speed on the interstate. I was fearful of having a wreck or being run over by the other cars since my car was not responding to giving it gas to accelerate on the road. I have contacted BMW on 1/2/2024, 4/15/2024, and gain today 5/21/2024 and they are telling me the remedy is still not available. I had Groves Automotive, a certified BMW repair shop, who are my automotive repair shop call for the repair too. My car was just serviced at Groves in the last 3 weeks and passed inspection. The Check Engine warning lamp came on again this morning while driving to work and again the vehicle was not able to accelerate and was running very rough. I am fearful of my safety and the safety of others when I have to drive back and forth to work.
The engine has been making some rattle noises like the sound of loose bolts for months now. I have contacted various BMW dealerships in orange county and san diego, and all of them say the same thing: A remedy is not available yet so we cannot help you. Finally today, my "Service Engine Soon" light went on. I did some research and failure of the VANOS bolts can lead to the car stalling at speed, risking a crash! This recall has been open for half a year now, and it seems the remedy is simply to replace those aluminum bolts! PLEASE help me get this through so that I don't end up in an accident or on the side of the road. This is for Recall Campaign No. 23V-707. The recall even states "if there is unusual engine noise, which may include illumination of the check engine or service engine soon warning lamp, do not continue to drive your vehicle and immediately contact the nearest authorized BMW center to arrange for pickup and transportation of your vehicle to the BMW center."
THIS VANOS BOLT RECALL HAS BEEN OUT FOR SOME TIME NOW. I CAN'T BELIEVE BOLTS ARE HOLDING THIS UP? I'VE CALLED BMW ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT "THERE IS NO ETA" ON THE PARTS. I DON'T BELIEVE BMW WANTS TO PERFORM THIS RECALL ON A 2011 CAR.
VANOS related service light has been on for months. BMW refuses to quickly and expeditiously resolve an open recall on said VANOS bolts. Technicians inform me that there are NO open recalls on this vehicle, which is clearly untrue.
See attached document for complaint
Hi. I am filing a report regarding the recall shown below. After several calls to BMW they still have no fix or parts, or an estimate of when they will have anything to adress this recall notice. It's coming up on 6 months since the recall was issued. My Vanos bolts on the exhaust camshaft have failed and my car no longer can drive. Oct 20,2023 Manufacturer Recall Number NA NHTSA Recall Number 23V707 Recall Status Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available Summary VANOUS BOLTS: The VANOS assembly (engine) bolts may, over time, loosen, and eventually break. If this occurred, a reduced engine power (safe mode) may be activated. In some cases, the engine may not be able to be restarted after switching off and, in rare cases, the engine could stall which could increase the risk of a crash. Safety Risk
BMW issued a recall for VANOS bolts on Oct 20, 2023. Vehicle had service engine soon light illuminate. Vehicle was diagnosed by Tucson BMW as having issue with VANOS bolts shortly before (within a month) recall being issued. At that time car was not repaired-but BMW suggested bolts be replaced at a cost of approximately $6,000. BMW advised car was not safe to drive. BMW had a solution- but wanted to charge for it (as the recall had not yet been issued). Now that recall has been issued BMW seems to be waiting out the clock and hoping owners get rid of the car before they have to repair the vehicle. Also they are now saying we can drive the vehicle until the remedy is available, which directly conflicts with dealers advice when they wanted to charge for the repair. They have not given any indication of time frames. We do not feel comfortable driving the car on highways due to risk of stalling. BMW states "The VANOS Assembly (Engine) Bolts May, Over Time, Loosen, And Eventually Break. If This Occurred, A Reduced Engine Power (Safe Mode) May Be Activated. In Some Cases, The Engine May Not Be Able To Be Restarted After Switching Off And, In Rare Cases, The Engine Could Stall Which Could Increase The Risk Of A Crash." In the meantime it has been over 6 months with no updates as to when the recall remedy will be made available. I want BMW repair the car as soon as possible. I have been in contact with BMW customer care who have not given any viable solutions/time frame for the repair.
Recently there is a grind/rubbing noise coming from the engine compartment on my vehicle, Ive recieved a SAFETY RECALL notice from BMW in regards to the VANOS bolts coming loose. Notice states that remedy is unavailable, recently visited my local BMW dealership in Milford DE, and was simply told that they cant help. The recall clearly states the possibility of crashing or vehicle not turning on after shutting off. I've also gone ahead and purchased an endoscope and can clearly see that some bolts are loose in my engine, meaning that is only a matter of time before it gets really bad. A remedy is needed now, if the VANOS bolts are not available, simply replace the sprockets assembly( these are available and include the bolts on them). Solution needed ASAP, please help!
vanos bolts my engine is currently roughing very very rough and im sure its due to the recall and its been over 5 months still so solution.
There is a known issue with my vehicles Vanos assembly (bolts). BMW issued recall 23V-707 in October 2023. To date both local dealerships and bmw North America will not make the necessary repairs to the vehicle as they claim parts are not available. My vehicle is sporadically experiencing the issues related to this recall which includes sudden power loss while driving which is a major safety issue. Continued driving could result in complete engine failure. As the vehicle is needed and self cost of repair is cost prohibitive it also leaves owners with no choice but to drive the vehicle.
I currently have my service engine light on because of VANOS issues. I took my vehicle to a BMW service center where I was informed that the issue is because of a faulty VANOS unit that would be fixed when the 'Recall Campaign No. 23V-707' has a remedy to be performed. My registration expired January 1st of this year, but can't get a new one since the vehicle won't pass emissions (I live in Arlington, VA). The BMW service center told me to go to DMV to get a possible emissions waiver. The DMV told me to contact Virginia DEQ. I've been in contact with Vehicle Emissions Compliance Officer trying to receive an emissions waiver. He has told me to reach out to BMW of North America to try to get parts expedited to perform the recall, but they told me that I would have to wait until a remedy is available. He has now told me to contact you all to file a complaint. This recall was sent to me in early December of last year, and there is still no update on when the remedy will be available. I'm paying taxes (high ones because of where I live) on a car that is perfectly drivable, but can't pass emissions because of it having the service engine soon light on. I need this recall to happen sooner rather than later. Thanks
The contact owned a 2011 BMW 328I. The contact stated that the vehicle was at an independent mechanic having minor body repairs completed; however, while the vehicle was being test driven, the engine caught on fire. The independent mechanic extinguished the fire. The contact was no Police or Fire Department report filed. The contact reported the failure to the dealer. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V119000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and deemed the vehicle a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Received letter of recal Dec 2023 For recall Campaign No 23V-707 Is been almost two months and BMW not communicating with me to find solution letter said remedi unavailable Engine bolts may over time loosen and eventually break how they want public to drive like that this should be a priority is dangerous
There is a recall campaign no. 23v-707 Vanos assembly bolts on this car that began with correspondence in December 2023. This is a dangerous situation if the bolts break, therefore I have parked the car upon receipt of the letter. I contacted both BMW of North America and a local dealer in both December and February and they have stated that there is not a remedy for this and have no information as to when one may be available. When contacting BMW, they have me call the dealer, and the dealer recommends that I call BMW. I am concerned with the car sitting for this time period, seals and the like are going to deteriorate and BMW will not cover the cost.
2011 BMW 328i stalled in an intersection, car then started to act bogged down. Waring light came on. I took the car to a mechanic shop where they found a bolt head inside / bottom of our oil pan. I then researched online and found that BMW has a recall for a (Vanos failure sheared bolts/recall). I contacted my local dealership and received a very unwelcomed response to this issue. They told me because another mechanic worked on this vehicle other than a certified BMW mechanic/location that the recall would not be valid. I called BMW customer service line and was told that is not true. It is a safety recall and to try calling another dealership to set up an appointment. Unfortunately, other dealerships won't even call me back to set anything up. It seems no one cares even though we have the proof with this bolt in hand. We cannot drive the car based on the BMW's recall information as to a safety risk, yet no one wants to help. There's no offer to get us a rental car or any solution to when we can take our car in for repair. Shame on you BMW for your lack of empathy to your millions of customers who have supported and purchased your product through the years.
i was driving to work and the car stalled in the middle of traffic when i slowed the vehicle down, the idle is rough and all over the place, car is very hesitant to accelerate and vibrates or shakes when approaching any speed. then the check engine light popped on and is still on, i’ve parked the car since the incident to do some research on what the cause could be.
1) Vehicle idling problem, it automatically accelerate while vehicle is idle and pcv valve problem is very prominent during the winter. 2) Airbag problem, automatically airbag is popping up.
The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328I. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle before being able to accelerate forward. The contact stated that while accelerating, the engine was louder than expected while revving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The air bags warning light was also illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was more persistent during the winter months. The vehicle had been taken to an independent mechanic however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been made aware of the failure and it was confirmed that there no recalls associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was 90,000.
Mileage: 90,000
I reported this failure to NHTSA at the time of the incident as well. You should have a record of it. The engine failed under the exact circumstances as the recall it's under. Upon inspection our BMW dealer service department determined that our engine experienced extensive damage and would need repairs beyond that of simply replacing the VANOS bolts or mechanism. BMW NA is refusing to repair my vehicle under the guise of the "remedy is not available" it is almost a year that we have been without the use of our car so please instruct them to begin repairs now as the new bolts will surely be available by the time the rest of the engine is either repaired or replaced. Thank you.
NHTSA Recall Number23V707 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available. This recall has been open for over 2 months and I can not drive my car since then. When will there be a fix? I cant afford to keep renting a car to wait for this fix.
The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328I. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that a bolt had fractured in the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who replaced the engine. While at the local dealer, the inspector noticed that the mechanic had fractured another bolt. The manufacturer was not notified about the failure. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V707000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
Mileage: 138,000
Due to engine problems, caused by the recall, car cannot be driven. Been parked at a BMW dealership for over a month with no remedy insight.
I have an open recall (10/20/23) and called both the BMW Recall Hotline and my local BMW dealer for more information. (East Bay BMW, Pleasanton, CA) The Dealer would not provide the Recall information and the Hotline provided some of this information. Neither could provide me with a timeline for BMW setting a Remedy. Unfortunately my BMW is experiencing some of the symptoms. When can I reasonably expect a Remedy decision? I appreciate your help BTW- I have set up a claim with BMW. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Engine is making weird noise and a mechanic told me it’s related to this recall that still has “no remedy” when it should’ve been a recall YEARS ago when the cars first came out and this issue became more apparent. I do not want to keep driving the car I paid hard earned money for just for a manufacturer defect to destroy it

2011 bmw 328i vano bolts fail.my car stall in the middle of me driving .vechile doesn't want to start.starter just making a whine noise.before stalling I can here rattle in the engine like loose bolts jumping around.
Engine camshaft bolts sheered off inside top of motor , did searching online and found this common problem in certain years and model. Bmw offered a 10 year replacement campaign for faulty bolts and damage they caused. The only problem is mine is beyond that time period as it just happened. similar to many other BMW owners "it happened after the warranty period has ended" even though defective bolts are still causing problems. This should be a simple be a recall with no warranty period , because bolts are defective and still damaging motors.
VANOS Assembly Bolts Broke and engine stalled. Vehicle was taken into dealership two weeks earlier due to check engine light being on. Dealer checked and cleared "check engine errors" and reset and reported that I would need to replace "VANOS Solenoids" intake and exhaust soon so I was told I could drive the car and if the solenoids went out I could still drive the car. two weeks later is when the bolts broke and car stalled and would not restart. At this time I arranged to have the car towed in and after inspecting car I was told that the "VANOS assembly bolts" broke. To better understand the repair I went online and found this. Recall Campaign No. 14V-176: VANOS Assembly Bolts. This is the same issue as the recall so I don't understand why this car or vin was not part of the recall.
While driving my 2011 BMW 328i, I experienced the engine stalling and would not re-start. I had the vehicle towed to an independent BMW mechanic near my house. It was determined that the VANOS cam shaft bolts sheared and went down into the oil pan. I contacted BMW knowing that there was a previous recall on the VANOS bolt failure (Recall Campaign 14V-176: N51, N52K and N52T Engine – Replace VANOS Gear Bolts) and BMW says that my vehicle is not an affected vehicle although the production year matches and the engine type match.
The engine loses power unexpectedly, making merging into traffic dangerous. It's intermittent and can't be duplicated under the same conditions every time. There is an open recall for VANOS bolt issues, Recall Campaign 14V-176: N51, N52K and N52T Engine – Replace VANOS Gear Bolts that I believe to be the root issue, but it doens't seem to apply to my VIN. I think this issue is more widespread than the recall addresses.
The serpentine belt ended up behind the crankshaft pulley. As it rotated and shredded, the belt was also penetrating the crankshaft seal. Shreds of rubber along with the seal entered the VANOS system. Rubber filled the oil pan, oil pick up tube was filled with bits of what was the belt. The engine has internal damage from the interception into the timing chain. Independent Service Center The warning light was not present until after stopping, exiting the vehicle, then returning and trying to crank. The oil light, engine light, and red car image (BMW dash light) were thn presented, Doing some research and talking to the shop, it's a far too familiar problem.
I own a 2011 BMW 328i xDrive with a known issue of Vanos bolts being sheered off, which is what just happened to my vehicle. There is only a recall on some of the vehicles and not all. My car is not covered through VIN which is ridiculous because it is a known issue. Upon contacting BMW here in El Paso, TX all they could tell me was my VIN was not covered. Since this issue affects far too many like models from the same time frame, BMW should be held responsible. Now I have to spend $1500 with an indy car shop and I hope we get reimbursed.
I've had my car for less than a year, and started having issues with my engine around cold weather season. I would constantly get a light signal on the dashboard indicating that my engine needs coolant due to it overheating, although my car remained up-kept with coolant and fluids. there were times where I had to stop my car on the road due to an extensive amount of smoke and burning odor coming from the engine compartment, after being serviced a numerous amount of times, the only issue found was in regards to my engine overheating, and supposedly fixed by adding more and more coolant. eventually my engine gave out after taking a short 30 minute trip to my parents home on thanksgiving day. Now that a recall has been placed on my vehicle, I have an understanding that a PCV valve heater malfunction can cause an engine to overheat, and when not repaired, it can cause unrepairable damage to an engine. I also have an understanding that a valve heater malfunction can cause coolant to leak out, resulting in the engine overheating regardless of how much coolant is put in it. I have an understanding that a bad PCV valve heater can result in a rough idle, engine stuttering, and a drop in fuel efficiency, all of which I've dealt with. I've reached out to my local BMW shop in regards to this recall, and they refuse to even take in my car to look at it being that my engine is already no good, although the reason for my engine going out is most likely due to this recall. my car is sitting with a faulty PCV valve heater and the damage that its done to my engine, and the BMW shop of macon is telling me that this recall has nothing to do with my car without even looking at it, when I know for a fact the issues I've had with my car relates to the recall.
Vehicle was idling rough. Would periodically accelerate without pressing the gas pedal. It would then go into limp mode. And display Services engine soon light. I took the valve cover off to inspect the camshafts and found the camshaft adjuster gear bolts were all loose. 5 of the 8 bolts were snapped off. 2 of the 5 missing bolt heads were found in the head of the engine 3 were found in the oil pan. If I did not discover the bolts were broken the timing chain could have slipped off causing an accident.
I buy the car in December 02 2022 and the same day a few hours the car engine it's star a sound in the engine. I go to my mechanic and he said don't run the car have problem with the timing belt. I go to de dealer and they said don't worry I pick up and our mechanic check the car but I pay the car but I don't have my car yet. I pay my loan 5 month but I don't have my car back and they don't say nothing.
The engine made noise and then turned off. Would not restart. BMW dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed exhaust camshaft Vanos unit. BMW refuses to repair it even though it the engine, model and year fit the Vanos recall. This is the second BMW vehicle I have owned that failed for this reason, but was outside the covered claimed VIN numbers. I am requesting that you investigate this as wider range of vehicles, fitting the recall description exactly, but not covered, are failing...this vehicle is a 2011 with only 62,000 miles. I would also like a list of the VIN numbers currently affected.
The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328I. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a rattling sound coming from under the hood. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic that the bolts were missing from the exhaust VANOS camshaft unit side and the other bolts had backed out on the intake side and needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that no recall existed for VANOS bolts. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
Mileage: 119,000
Due to this recall other parts of my vehicle are failing and it is frustrating that my vehicle overheats regularly especially when it is hot outside. The recall has been for a year but BMW has not come up with a remedy for this problem. We had to pay $951.67 in 2022 to get our vehicle inspected but they said if the recall was fixed I would not have had the issue I had. Please push BMW to fix this issue.
The camshaft gear bolts on my car broke causing it to stall in a roadway. Upon further investigation BMW did issue a recall for this very well known problem to them however they decided to EXCLUDE the station wagon models. All of these cars have the exact same engine whether its the coupe, sedan, or convertible. All the same exact engine. My car is a station wagon which was excluded. This is a major issue for all owners of these cars. BMW used aluminum bolts in this location and they end up shearing off causing major engine damage. BMW needs to remedy this issue by adding the station wagon cars to the recall. This problem should have been fixed years ago.
My Vehicle has been on Recall since March 2, 2022. There are increasing problems and an occasional smoke and burning smell. This is effecting me getting an inspection and registering my vehicle.
BMW has Recall: #22V-119:407 - POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE HEATER still open with no remedy in sight. It has been months if not a year already (or longer) and I am waiting, together with thousands of BMW owners to get this issue fixed. It is totally unacceptable that a company as BMW leaves their customers hanging and allowing them to drive unsafe cars due to their laziness to fix this. What is NHTSA going to do about this? Thanks. Happy New Year!
* What component failed: The VANOS gear bolts broken on the 2011 BMW 328i. *How was your safety put at risk? The car will suddenly stall during high speed driving that risk some car will hint from behind or high possibility of lost the control. The car stall and shaking very bad during high speed driving *Has the problem been confirmed by dealer and independent service center. Yes. It was confirmed by dealer and independent service center. There are four broken bolts were discovered on the oil pan. The broken bolts were come from VANOS gear. *The vehicle has inspected by BMW dealer and independent service. *Check Engine light was on. No symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. After failure, the symptom is the car stalls during driving. The attached doc include the recall related to VANOS assembly bolts. However, the BMW refuse to take responsibility for recall my car to fix the problem and failed to notice me for the recall until the car failure due to this VANOS problem. I visited BMW dealer so many times and dealer is not notified me for this recall.

This car has a heater problem with the PCV that causes the car to not run in cold weather. The PCV fails intermittently and the car will not idle or run in cold weather. BMW issued this recall in March but it is not November and they have offered no fix for this. It is a safety issue and it's also affecting how the car runs. How could we be 8 months into this without a fix?
Recall was issued March 2022. The remedy is still not available.
My 2011 328i convertible has the Vanos Cam shaft bolts broken, and the dealership never said anything about the recall for this issue. When I brought it to their attention they gave me a bill for $800 to find what I told them was wrong with the car. For the 10 years I had the car I have only use one dealership for repairs, and had an additional warranty on my vehicle and NOTHING was said about the bolt heads breaking off on the sprocket cam
The Vanos Cam Tensioners bolts were a known issue (to back out and shear inside of the engine) in my car and a few years prior, and BMW recalled 150,000~ and gave 170,000~ vehicles a 10year unlimited mile warranty on the issue. My car had this issue a month ago and BMW would not help (a year out of the warranty with only 74,000 miles). A BMW dealer diagnosed it and I got it repaired at an independent shop for $5,000+. I’ve seen other people have this issue after the warranty so obviously 10 years was not sufficient. This issue can lead to stalling while driving and rough running. Luckily, I heard the awful noise from my engine before it got worse and could’ve been catastrophic/dangerous. The car did not even have a CEL at the time. This can be a dangerous thing to happen and BMW did not fix all vehicles that were affected which is crazy to me, I also never got even a notice in my 2 1/2 years of ownership! Thank you guys for your time, I am hoping BMW will make this right, but I can’t believe such a large company would try and let something this serious go.
The bolts for my VANOS adjuster unit failed at approximately 143,000 miles on my 2011 328i xDrive Wagon (chassis code E91). In 2014, BMW issued a recall (campaign No. 14V-176) for this exact issue. On the first page under the "Model" section, it is stated that the E91 chassis is affected. However, on the second page, the E91 chassis is not listed under "Affected Vehicles". When checking the VIN number, my car does not have an open recall regarding this issue. However, the engine equipped in my car is also equipped in other models that are eligible for the recall, and my engine is clearly suffering from the exact failure described by the recall. I request the NHTSA to investigate why BMW did not include my model in this recall, and require BMW to issue the recall for my model.
The VANOS adjustment unit develops an internal oil leakage that will no longer allow the VANOS to adjust quickly enough. This will result in activation of the engine emergency mode and the engine malfunction will become permanently active. BMW Service bulletin that is applicable: SI B11 07 14 Recall Campaign 14V-176 Documentation was inspected by local BMW dealership. They denied the recall due to the VIN not being attached to the Service Bulletin and Recall Campaign. Background: My VIN has motor type N52K and vehicle production is April 2011. The vehicle was running rough and had developed an oil leak from the oil pan gasket. The current service bulletin it states: “Affected Vehicles: This recall involves certain E70, E71, E82, E88, E89, E90, E92, F10 and F25 vehicle’s with the N51, N52K and N52T engines produced from September 2009 to November 2011.”
There is a safety recall on my car. This recall involves an engine component known as the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve heater. The PCV valve heater may not have been produced to specifications which could lead to a short circuit. BMW DOES NOT HAVE AN AVAILABLE REMEDY FOR THIS RECALL AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY TIMELINE FOR FIXING IT.
My 2011 BMW 328i turned off while i was at stop sign at top of the street. My children and I could of died! Car starts but keep shutting off. Smells like its also burning! No remedy available still. Now have no vehicle to drive!!!!!
Unknown my car has been smoking g very bad lately idk if it is cause but this but this recall has never been fixed on my car would like to get looked at
Upon starting my vehicle there is a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin. The car was making a noise that has been diagnosed by a mechanic as engine failure and this vehicle is only 10 years old. This car is my only means of transportation. I need someone to help figure out what to do with it. These cars are too costly to consumers to be just be dead in a year span. There is no possible way the manufacture is unaware of these issues. My car has had a burning smell that could never be located by the dealer. Though it all there are still zero safety lights to point me in any direction.. how can it be possible that something seeming so unstable have no warning lights to give indication that something is wrong with it . I’m just tired of all these entities being able to deliberately falsify information to entice me to purchase a vehicle knowing it has failures and safety issues. I don’t have another car. I want to use the one l already paid for. I need someone who cares to help me. I shouldn’t be fearful for my life driving a vehicle on the road. If someone can please look into what can be done by the manufacturer, I would appreciate it. The dealer deems this vehicle inoperable.. where do I go from here???
Vehicle started smelling like smoke and making loud screeching noise in February. Took car to BMW certified shop to be fixed, put out thousands of dollars to have valve replaced, check engine light will still not turn off. In April I received a letter from BMW about the a recall on the PVC Valve. It is now July and they just diagnosed a remedy. Called around to every local dealership, they cannot fix it due to lack of parts. It has been over 5 months without having a car. BMW North America is giving me the run around and dealerships keep referring me to call BMW North America. Also have told me that they might not refund me for this since the problem wasn’t fixed even though BMW is at fault.
Received letter in March 2022 about an "Important Safety Recall" for Recall Campaign No. 22V-119: PCV Valve Heater. Letter stated that "Remedy is Unavailable" and "is currently being developed". Manufacturer has not followed up to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, and per the instructions in the letter, I am filing a complaint with NHTSA.
There was a recall on my vehicle, and I have been without a vehicle since. My vehicle smokes when i try to drive it so, i have been without a vehicle and BMW sent out a notice of this back on March 2, 2022 and they still do not have a resolution. something needs to be done as i am without a vehicle.
My car was brought in to the BMW dealership for knocking noises, a fire smell, and shaking. I was told my car could not be repaired due to engine failure.l was informed that replacing the engine would cost me more than the vehicle is worth. He recommended l sell it for parts. Currently there are no lights/ indicators present on my dash board indicating that something is even wrong . l did not receive any warnings before the shaking and /or during the knocking . On the other hand; I have made multiple complaints to my mechanic about smelling fire or burnt rubber for the past six months and he thought it was coming from the radiator and he replaced it.. The smell did not improve .. he was still in the process of guessing what it could be . I guess we know now. The safety of my family has been at risk for months, knowing that burnt rubber smell could have evolved into something major at anytime . My life was in danger when the car began shaking while driving on the highway on my way to work . The car has been parked for a week now due to me not knowing what to do with a dead 10 years young vehicle. I have not called the police and my insurance company states they don’t cover mechanical issues. My car has only been viewed by a dealership and my mechanic shop. To make my situation worse , I am currently working overseas in Germany on orders and l don’t know what to do with this car. I don’t live a lifestyle where I can afford to purchase a vehicle with the intentions of it lasting 10 years or less . My car is definitely available for inspection upon request.. if someone could advise me on whom to contact , that would be great . The set back this has caused me is unrealistic. If there is anything I can do as a costumer please let me know .l am a healthcare worker .l am very reliant upon my vehicle . I need my car.
The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328i. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle started smoking from the hood. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the smoke extinguished by itself. The contact drove the vehicle home and called the dealer. The contact drove the vehicle to the dealer but the vehicle was not repaired. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacture was not informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

BMW HAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE 328XI ABOUT THE PCV VALVE HEATER AND HAD SENT NOTICE OF THE NEED TO REPLACE AND IT HAS BEEN OVER 2 YEARS AND THEY HAVE NOT FOUND A REMEDY FOR THE FIX. THE BMW WARRANTY GROUP CONFIRMED A DATE ON MARCH 7, 2022 FOR THE REPAIR. UPON GOING TO THE HERB CAMBERS IN BROOKLINE, MA. THEY TOLD ME THEY DID NOT HAVE A REMEDY TO FIX THE ISSUE AND WILL CONTACT WHEN THEY HAVE A FIX. ON APRIL 2022 THEY SENT A LETTER STATING THE PCV VALVE HEATER NEEDS TO BE FIXED UNDER (17V-673 / 19V-273) AND THE REMEDY IS UNAVAILABLE AND A NEW REMEDY NEEDS TO BE PERFORMED. ISSUE IS THAT IF THEY DO NOT FIX THE VALVE HEATER THE ENGINE COULD HEAT UP AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THEY SAY A REMEDY IS BEING WORKED ON, BUT BMW SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE IF A FIRE DOES OCCUR.
I have a 2011 BMW 328i Sedan, the car has only 50,000 miles on it. No accidents. The VIN number is [XXX] I've been hearing the increased engine noise on my vehicle, then the car engine has stalled while it's stopping in the intersection a couple of days ago. The engine has failed to start after that. I've called my mechanic he removed the engine's valve cover, he found 4 bolts attached to the VANOS adjusting unit have broken off. I checked online it looks like there's a safety recall on these bolts (see the attachment). I visited the BMW service center in San Francisco, they claimed they couldn't find any related safety recall on these bolts and refused to fix the issue. I'm glad that there's no crash or injury during the engine stalled event. These VANOS bolts are clearly not safe. I saw the manufacturer recall these bolts awhile ago. Recall Campaign 14V-176: VANOS Assembly Bolts - Engine Failure 2011 328i Wonder if the recall applies to my vehicle? INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The vehicle keeps stalling on the highways and on the streets. We have taken the car in and have towed the car in to the bmw dealership costing us hundreds of dollars on what they think the problem is and it does not fix the issue. They perform a diagnosis and can’t find an issue but the car keeps stalling. The car first starting stalling last year around February.
While I was driving approximately 35 mph the vehicle shut off. Then a check engine light came on. When a code reader was placed on the vehicle a code p0335 for the crankshaft position sensor. Thankfully I was able to coast the car safely to the shoulder of the roadway. Had I been on an interstate highway who knows what the outcome would have been.
Engine Compartment Suddenly Caught Fire and Came into the Vehicle Cabin of my 2011 328i E90 BMW on 12/04/2021 at 10:04 AM PST in the city of Garden Grove, CA. Emergency first responder Captian Rick King of the Garden Grove Fire Department conducted an initial investigation of the cause of the fire due to a defective fuel pump. BMW North America LLC should be held accountable for this accident as it could have cause serious injury or death.
Vehicle stalled with no power while driving highway speed. Engine is locked up and needs to be replaced
The 4 vanos bolts that secure the housing for the variable camshaft timing adjustment (VANOS) unit broke and fell into my oil pan. This has caused oil to leak onto and break the eccentric shaft sensor. This has caused my vehicles engine to loose power. Had this occurred at a faster speed, it could have harmed myself and others on the road. My engines light came on just a few miles before my cars engine had weakened power. I pulled off the road to safety. I had my bmw towed and it is currently at the dealership with an estimated quote of $4963.91 to fix. I’ve had my bmw for less than two years. It’s had one previous owner and no accidents. It only has 64,984 miles. According to the U.S Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, the average highway miles driven per year in 2019 were 14,263. If this is accurate, my vehicle would have roughly 142,000 miles for a 10 year old bmw. My car has less than half of this.
The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328i. The contact stated that after driving, the vehicle failed to restart without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed that the camshaft housing bolts had sheared off. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repairs were not covered under the warranty. The contact stated that the failure was like NHTSA campaign number: 14V176000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Mileage: 130,000
The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328i. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, he heard an abnormal grinding sound coming from the engine before the vehicle inadvertently stalled. The service engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled to the side of the roadway and restarted the vehicle and continued driving his residence. The contact stated upon checking the engine, he noticed that the vanos bolts had fractured and were missing from the engine. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the Vin was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V176000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the Vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
Mileage: 98,000
It seems that the Bolts holding the Vanos unit intact have come loose or sheared and cause a loud high pitch squealing along with a higher volume in oil loss and this has also cause a seal of some sort or go bad and excess oil burning. Also, the car has a loud tick in the engine now. My vin number is not accepted u der the recall list but my cars make model and year for the credentials along with the problems that the engine continues to have. I would Appreciate it if the company adds this car and it’s vin to the list of recall so i can Have it properly fixed

MY ISSUE IS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL CAMPAIGN 14V-176, ALSO LISTED AS SI B11 07 14. IT IS A FAULTY VANOS UNIT WITH FAILING BOLTS. MY CAR'S MODEL AND YEAR ARE LISTED IN BOTH OF THESE DOCUMENTS, HOWEVER MY SPECIFIC VIN IS NOT LISTED AS PART OF THE RECALL. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY DAMAGED DUE TO THE VANOS BOLTS SHEARING OFF COMPLETELY AND FALLING INTO THE OIL PAN, AS DESCRIBED EXACTLY IN THE ABOVE RECALL NOTICES. THIS IS THE DIAGNOSIS FROM BMW OF SEATTLE. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT MY CAR SUFFERS THE SAME FAULTY PART AS LISTED AND SHOULD BE PART OF THE RECALL. I BELIEVE IT IS IN ERROR THAT IT IS NOT. AS IT STANDS, BMW CANNOT HELP ME AND ARE FORCING ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TELLS ME THAT MY VIN SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT ISN'T, BUT BECAUSE IT ISN'T THEY WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE UNDER THE RECALL. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. PLEASE CORRECT THE DOCUMENTATION TO INCLUDE MY VEHICLE, WHICH MATCHES THE LISTED VEHICLES IN THE VANOS RECALL PAPERWORK. THANK YOU.

CYLINDER HEAD BOLT DETACHMENT FROM FACTORY PRODUCTION CAUSING MASSIVE OIL LEAK ON ENGINE BLOCK. MY VEHICLE RAPIDLY LOST 1 QUART OF OIL IN 2.1 MILES OF DRIVING. WHEN I TOOK IT TO A CERTIFIED BMW SERVICE CENTER, THEY FOUND THAT THE CYLINDER HEAD BOLT WAS COMPLETE SEVERED FROM THE BOLT STEM CAUSING OIL TO SPRAY OUT OF THE ENGINE. THIS DETACHMENT CAUSED OIL TO SPRAY OUT OF THE ENGINE, RAPIDLY DEPLETING OIL FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS OIL SPRAYED RAPIDLY ONTO THE ALTERNATOR, BELT AND OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE ENGINE BAY. THE CERTIFIED BMW MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS ISSUE IS SEEN FREQUENTLY WITH BMW FROM THE FACTORY PRODUCTION METHODS AND TORQUE SPECS IN FACTORY PRODUCTION PROCESS. THE CYLINDER HEAD BOLT BECOMES SEVERED FROM THE BOLT STEM/THREADED PORTION OF THE BOLT (SEE PICTURES INCLUDED). ACCORDING TO CERTIFIED BMW MECHANIC, THIS BOLT WOULD ONLY BE MANIPULATED DURING FACTORY PRODUCTION. I WAS ABLE TO CATCH THE PROBLEM BEFORE THE OIL DRAINED COMPLETED OUT OF MY VEHICLE OR BEFORE THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE. THERE IS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE BAY BECAUSE OF OIL SPRAYING. I AM CONCERNED THAT A MAJOR ENGINE COMPONENT ON MY VEHICLE FAILED. THIS FAILURE POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY AND QUALITY ISSUE. THIS IS A PART INTEGRITY/QUALITY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY BMW IMMEDIATELY.

WHILE LOOKING UP THE RECALL FOR THE TAKATA RECALL, I NOTICED THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON MY CAR FOR THE VANOS HOUSING BOLTS, I HAD NOT RECEIVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL EVEN THOUGH I HAD UPDATED MY ACCOUNT WITH BMW AT FIRST NOTICE OF THE TANAKA RECALL. I HAD MY CAR SERVICED FOR THE VANO HOUSING REPAIR WHICH THEY REMOVED THE VALVE COVER TO INSPECT THE BOLTS AND FOUND A BROKEN BOLT ON THE VANOS HOUSING AND REPLACED THE EXHAUST, REMOVED AND INSPECTED THE OIL PAN TO REMOVE THE FRAGMENTS. I PAID FOR AN OIL CHANGE THAT DAY. LESS THAN 7300 MILES AND 2 QUARTS OF OIL LATER I WAS EXPERIENCING AN OIL LEAK THAT WAS CAUSED BY AN IMPROPERLY SEATED VALVE COVER NOT SEATING TO THE CYLINDER HEAD. THEY OFFERED TO REPAIR A BROKEN CYLINDER HEAD BOLT FOR $500 I DECLINED AS MY MECHANIC SAID IT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE AND THEY SHOULD REPAIR A BOLT IF THEY ARE ALREADY IN THERE. I'D ALSO LIKE TO NOTE THAT THE RECALL LISTED THE REPAIR WAS TO TAKE 4 HOURS BUT THEY HAD MY CAR 3 DAYS. NO LOANER WAS GIVEN UNTIL THE END OF THE 2ND DAY. THEY ARE NOW REFUSING TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE VALVE COVER $1000 REPAIR. I NOTICED ONLINE THAT SEVERAL DEALERS REPLACED THE VALVE COVER AS A PART OF THIS SERVICE TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM, THOUGH BERT SMITH BMW ST. PETERSBURG, FL DID NOT. I ALSO HAVE 2 OTHER OPEN RECALLS ON MY CAR THAT HAVE BEEN LISTED AS A REMEDY NOT AVAILABLE SINCE DECEMBER 2017.

THE CAR WOULD RUN ROUGH AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE UNTIL IT WASN'T DRIVABLE. I TOOK IT TO THE BMW DEALER AND THEY SAID THE BOLTS ON THE EXHAUST VANOS UNIT FELL OUT AND IT WOULD BE $4,000 TO REPAIR IT. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS A BRANDED TITLE THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. 156,000 WERE RECALLED AND AN ADDITIONAL 170,000 WERE SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. EVIDENTLY MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE 170,000 BUT BMW REFUSES TO HONOR THE WARRANTY. PLEASE HELP

BROUGHT CAR WITH 20,000 MILES AND NOW HAS 57,000 MILES AND ISSUES WITH ENGINE IS WAY TOO MUCH FOR LOW MILEAGE.

"VANOS SYSTEM RECALL" I ATTEMPTED TO START MY VEHICLE AND IT STALLED WHILE DRIVING. I CONTACTED A MECHANIC WHO STATED AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC TEST IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT MY VANOS BOLTS WERE DAMAGED. I ALSO DID MY RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT BMW HAS AN NATIONWIDE RECALL ON A DEFECT IN THE VANOS UNIT HOUSING GROUP FOR THE YEARS 2010-2012. MY VEHICLE FALLS UNDER THIS BUT WHEN I ATTEMPT TO LOOK FOR MY VEHICLE RECALLS THERE IS NONE. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE.

KNOWN PROBLEM VANOS BOLTS SHEERED OFF IN TO OIL PAD. BMW STATES MY CAR IN NOT IN THE RECALL WHEN IT APPEARS IT SHOULD BE. THE FAULTY ITEM FAILED RENDERING MY CAR USELESS. BUT BMW WILL NOT REPAIR FREE OF COST UNDER THE PART EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE IT'S NOT A RECALL.

2011 328I WITH 53,500 MILES. ENGINE COLD START HESITATION WITH VIBRATIONS WHILE IDLING STATIONARY. TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE ISSUE, OIL CHANGE. WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE ECCENTRIC SHAFT SENSOR/GASKETS, BATTERY TESTED LOW TO INCLUDE VVT SENSORS AND LEFT PAD BRAKE SENSOR DUE TO WIRE CUT. TOTAL COST $2300 DOLLARS. NEXT DAY, CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WENT BACK TO DEALER AND STATED THEY DIDN'T FIND ANY FURTHER ISSUES. DID RESEARCH INTO THE ISSUE WITH OTHER BMW OWNERS WHICH HAD THE VEHICLES SERVICED FOR REPLACEMENTS OF VANOS, MASS AIR FLOW SENSORS, ETC. THESE CODES WEREN'T SHOWING UP ON MY VEHICLE. DECIDED TO TAKE A LOOK AT MY ENGINE MYSELF AND NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM THE VALVE COVER GASKET AREA AND COULD SEE OIL THAT HAD LEAK ON THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE BAY, NOW AT 60K MILES, TOOK IT IN EARLY FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND DIAGNOSIS AGAIN DUE TO POSSIBLE FIRE IF OIL SPILLS ON MOUNTING STRUTS. THIS REPLACEMENT WILL COST ME ANOTHER $2K+ FOR A VALVE COVER GASKET AND OIL PAN GASKET REPLACEMENTS, YET THIS WASN'T MADE KNOWN WHEN I HAD GOTTEN MY OIL CHANGED PREVIOUSLY. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ENGINE FIRE AND BMW'S NEGLIGENCE IN TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE MANUFACTURING FLAWS, ESPECIALLY WHEN SO MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THESE ISSUES STARTING EARLY AT 40K MILES.

MY 2011 BMW 328I (I AM ORIGINAL OWNER) HAS ~53000 MILES BUT IS SHOWING SYMPTOMS SUCH AS ENGINE MISFIRING, ROUGH IDLE, LOSS IN POWER AND ACCELERATION. CAR ALMOST STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY A COUPLE OF TIMES. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES INDICATE IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUG ISSUES BUT THIS IS NOT USUAL FOR A CAR WITH ONLY ABOUT 53000 MILES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE IF THERE'S ANY KNOWN ISSUES WITH THESE COMPONENTS.

THIS VEHICLE HAS STALLED NUMEROUS TIME WHEN DRIVEN (IN MOTION) AT LOW SPEED ON A CITY STREET. IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN 2 DAYS AGO WHEN I WAS DRIVING (IN MOTION) AND TRIED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. THE ENGINE STOPPED AND THE STEERING WHEEL REFUSED TO TURN. I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD IF ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS COMING FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BMW DEALER'S SERVICE NUMEROUS TIME FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WHEN IT WAS UNDER MANUFACTURER WARRANTY BUT THE SERVICE AND BMW USA ALWAYS SAID THAT NONE OF THE OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE EVER REPORTED THIS ISSUE AND THEY NEVER HEARD OF IT FROM ANOTHER CUSTOMER.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 328I. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER A RECALL PERTAINING TO THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. RECENTLY, THE CONTACT NOTICED A BURNING ODOR WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE RECALL REMEDY. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED, WITH LIGHT SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE HOOD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK ON THE ENGINE GASKET. THE ENGINE GASKET WAS CLEANED. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THE OIL LEAKED ON A PANEL INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND RULED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE THAT NEEDED TO BE REMEDIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,751.

ENGINE SPUN #3 ROD TO CRANK BEARING @ 6400 RPM SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND. (RED LINE IS 6700) AND COMPUTER CONTROLS SHOULD PREVENT ENGINE FROM BEING DAMAGED. CAR HAD 135K ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPEND, BUT I HAVE OWNED IT SINCE NEW AND HAVE PERFORMED ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE SINCE NEW SINCE NEW. I UNDERSTATED THE CAR HAS HIGH MILES, BUT I STILL FEEL THE ENGINE SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED FOR RUNNING IT HARD ONE TIME. ENGINE WAS REPLACED FROM CAR WITH 21K IN IT. THE REPAIR COST OVER 5K WITH ME DOING THE WORK.

I HAVE LESS THAN 39,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE, YET, THE VALVE COVER GASKET IS CRACKED. WHEN THE MANUFACTURER RECALL WAS MADE PUBLIC, BMW REFUSED TO CHECK MY CAR, BECAUSE MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ON THEIR LIST. MY STANDARD WARRANTY EXPIRED, BUT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY ONLY COVERS ENGINE INTAKE AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFT. IS IT UNREASONABLE TO REQUEST A VALVE COVER GASKET WHICH SEEMS TO BE DAMAGED PREMATURELY? I WAS DRIVING WHEN I NOTICED A LITTLE SMOKE AND AN ODOR. MEINEKE WAS THE CLOSEST CAR REPAIR NEARBY, AND THEY ARE HOLDING MY CAR UNTIL I GET A RESPONSE FROM BMW.

THREE WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, "COOLANT LIQUID LOW, ENGINE IS HOT PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY" AND "DO NOT OPEN HOOD, FIRE HAZARD" WERE DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS OIL LEAKAGE. THE COOLANT PUMP AND OIL PAN GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. OIL FILTER HOUSING LEAK. OIL AND GRIME BUILT UP ON ENGINE FROM LEAK THROUGH TIME. COULD CATCH FIRE. BMW REPLACED FOR $600+. INDICATED NOT DAMAGED - TYPICAL OF THAT PART.
