My 2017 BMW X1 has a faulty gear selector torsion spring that triggers a “secure vehicle against rolling” warning. This is a known issue that MINI has acknowledged and extended warranty coverage for, despite using the same part. Many BMW owners are experiencing the same failure, which could lead to a rollaway risk if not addressed. BMW should issue a recall or extend coverage for affected vehicles.
X1 gear shifter is causing a Transmission waring - and comment to secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult Service center. I have spoken with BMW mechanic and other mechanic who have stated that it is common issue with X1 and Mini's that use same shifter. A spring breaks off in the shifter. Mini - issued a large warranty extension but it appears BMW has not.
Car displays a warning stating to ''secure vehicle with parking brake to prevent it from rolling away, Consult Service." This is a common issue with at least this model of vehicle and it's shared "sister" car the Mini cooper. The Mini cooper does have an "extended warranty" to cover the repair of the faulty $3.00 spring that malforms. Here is link to mini's notification [XXX] The repair at BMW is $2600??? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I got a message saying to “secure vehicle against rolling”. It’s says that this is some sort of transmission problem. It only comes on when I initially turn on the car and then when I turnoff the car.
It displays a secure vehicle against rolling warning which is caused by a faulty gear selector assembly. After researching on the Internet and talking to the dealer repair specialist, this seems to be a common issue for this model and it should not have happened this early in the car (the car is only 7 yrs old and has very low mileage since it was not driven much during 3 years of covid). This is a design issue that should have been fixed or recalled by the manufacturer. It is not a normal wear and tear issue and the consumer should not be paying thousands of dollars to fix a car design issue that impacts safety.
On board messages warning. Transmission: Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped.Secure vehicle against rolling while in parking position.
Vehicle is showing a “secure vehicle against rolling” warning. Upon doing research this is a common problem with the BMW X1, a default spring in the gearbox, which breaks at around 20000-60000 miles. The repair is very expensive $1500-$2000 at a dealer for a $3.00 part. It should be a recall as it is common breakage.
Rolling alert message.
2017 BMW X1 has a transmission warning to use parking brake because of potential hazard of car rolling away while in park. I investigated this issue and there are hundreds of thousands of people who are receiving this warning as well. This is a major safety issue for the car, the risk of it rolling or not understanding that the car is properly in park. This needs to be covered as a recall for this make and model and BMW should cover this.
Receiving message to secure vehicle against rolling when parking. It seems like the solution involves a $10 spring but costs $2000+ to replace. My vehicle has been serviced at the dealership consistently and has 50,530 miles on it so it has had an easy life and this seems not to be. Normal wear and tear issue.
My BMW X1 has an error code that states transmission: secure, vehicle against rolling. I have seen various issues with this happening in other BMW X1.
ALERT STATING: SECURE VEHICLE AGAINST ROLLING. This is happening when I turn on the car and when I am trying to turn off the car. Nothing happening with the car at the moment but does prevent me from turning off the car at times. It raises a concern because I don't want the car rolling into another car, building or even a person. The side mirror on the driver's side also keeps readjusting on its own which has caused issues while driving by shifting from my blindside.
When car is in park it say something secure brake to stop from rolling , I see this is a big problem in a lot of bmw’s and this repair should be a recall for the pricey repair . I heard it’s a $10 spring in the shift box . It should be replaced by bmw
The gear box failed, the battery failed and the coolant system leaked at the same time. It is at the dealer now who has confirmed these. A vehicle dashboard light came on before this occurred to tell me to engage the parking brake to prevent the car from rolling. Where I live, there are no hills so no reason to ever engage a parking brake and this dashboard light is meaningless. However, when I noticed this light, I made an appointment with the dealership and was able to drive the car there several days later. I thought it would not be a major issue but learned it was. The car has only 65,000 miles, and I have never been in an accident with this car. It is a safety issue, as it was a major problem with no effective warning and no real explanation in the owner's manual. I was fortunate to have brought the car in. I have not received the car back yet but the cost is substantial to repair.
Transmission : secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped
The car is a 2017 BMW X1 with about 60K miles. It has the following error message: Transmission Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center. This problem has been widely reported on BMW internet sites and is apparently due to a small broken spring in the transmission gear selector assy. The spring apparently costs less than $10 and takes about 3 hrs of labor to replace. I just got a quote from the BMW dealer who said they had to replace the entire shifter assy which cost $1000 and the labor is an additional $1300. It is apparently a safety issue because the transmission does not know whether it is in park even though it clearly is.
Error message displayed: "Secure vehicle against rolling" This message is displayed due to a broken spring in the gear selector mechanism. Because of the broken spring, the car's computer cannot detect whether or not the gear selector is in park. This creates a safety hazard because the gear selector can be shifted into Drive without having your foot on the brake. Note that a very large number of BMW owners have complained about this problem on social media and in the BMW message forum. This is clearly wide scale problem that stems from a faulty design and it creates a potential safety hazard. As such, BMW should be forced to do a formal recall to correct this issue. The repair effort requires 6-8 hours of work to tear apart the center console, replace the spring, and put it all back together...at a cost of around $2,000. Consumers should not have the bear the cost for what is clearly a design flaw.
Secure Vehicle from Rolling warning indicator due to faulty spring inside the gear selector
2017 BMW X1. The rear hatch will unexpectedly open or close on its own. This is a safety hazard for anyone standing near the hatch, especially small children.
Message every time I park- “Transmission:Secure vehicle with parking break when stoped. Contact service center”.
I spilled coffee in the coffee cup holder, which is mounted in front of shifting mechanism and other controls. The coffee cup holders are not leak proof and before I could safely stop to clean up, the coffee leaked down into the console. This caused a short and now my car throws weird messages all the time. Apparently I burnt out an electrical component. I can’t let anyone drive my car because they would have no idea what these warnings mean because they mean nothing. I did contact BMW customer care and told them that I didn’t think coffee cup holders should leak especially in a BMW they’re not concerned about it. It would be a safety issue for anyone driving this car but me because basically I ignore everything that it tells me. I will be getting this fixed soon. The cost to repair this part is $2500 because they have to take the whole console apart.
Vehicle states “ secure vehicle from Rolling” message. This could be a safety issue with something with the trans selector and/or parking brake and/or a door open, or not being recognized as being closed. I’ve read lots of other complaints Online too so thought be worth posting.
Every time I am stepping in and out of the car, a warning message comes both on the panel and connected drive that mentions secure vehicle against rolling - pictures attached. This is safety feature and should be fixed by BMW through a recall; there are similar posts also on the internet that describes the same problem with BMW models. The reverse camera won’t activate unless you hit the ok button thereby making it even more unsafe for any type of traffic that may be behind the car. Car is ok otherwise in terms of other functionalities.
I recently experienced Sudden Unintended Acceleration while driving my BMW X1. While turning the vehicle to park in a spot, the vehicle suddenly took off and collided with a pillar. There were four separate incidents in my town alone (Charlottesville, VA) in recent months where a BMW SUV experienced this problem. While I cannot completely rule out pedal misapplication, I would like to note that I do not think this is the case and this has not happened to me in 15 years of driving. I have recently had the battery and the break pads replaced. Please make a note of this problem and if you see a pattern, please investigate. What is the probability that all four building collisions in a parking lot in a small town involve a BMW SUV?
Three months after purchasing my 2017 BMW X1, the back hatch without warrant inadvertently starting closing, at one time almost closing on my just about 3 year old granddaughter. there was no movement and the key was placing remotely on a table. Soon after, while opened, it came down on my sisters hand. Then on Sept. 21, while removing groceries from the trunk, it started beeping and rapidly came down on my head and neck while I tried to hit the open button, causing a concussion and swelling on my neck. I have had to go on short term disability from work to deal with the long term effects of the concussion. I informed BMW North America immediately, had them do an inspection. Although the report was sent to me stating SIB states to replace Control Unit, Smart Opener for closing concern, BMW takes no responsibility and refused to pay to replace the unit.
Hello, my car keeps posting a message "Stop Your Car from Rolling" and I've learned that it's a simple spring that probably needs to be repaired. However, in order to repair a $3.00 spring, the dealer is trying to charge upwards of $3,000 to replace it. I really think this should be a recall for such a simple fix that should not be needed at all. The message appears every time I put the vehicle into PARK and will not stop. I'm always afraid my car will roll away if parked at an incline and I'm afraid the drive the car any longer. Thank you for your time.
During the parking of my BMW X1, when I put the gearbox shifter in the P position and turn off the engine I receive the following error message: "Secure Vehicle with Parking brake, have problem checked by service partner." This happens each time and also when the vehicle is parked on level ground. The error will remain even when the parking brake is applied. BMW Error Computer code is "420106" - Shiftlock Solenoid. Selector Lever wrongly not locked in P.
Error: Secure Vehicle Against Rolling. This just appeared on my dash 12/16/2022 while it was in park mode. I’ve done some research and found it’s just a small spring in the shifter that costs about $10. To get spring replaced at the dealer will cost about $3,000! This appears to be a problem with the BMW X1s. My vehicle has not been in an accident and I’ve always maintained it since ownership in 2017. BMW should be doing recalls on something of this nature.
Warning message: "Secure vehicle with parking brake when stationary". Extremely common issue with various BMW's including Mini Cooper vehicles. Error code reads "420106". Vehicle's computer can't read/tell if parking brake is engaged or not while parked. This is a safety hazard that is often quoted as several thousand dollars in repair costs by BMW dealers. A faulty gear box is at play and should be recalled by BMW.
I had my car in for regular Oil Change Service and was told I needed front brakes and rotors. I approved the stated repairs. When I started my car and proceeded to drive off the lot a caution light appeared and an error message "Secure vehicle against rolling. Secure vehicle with the parking brake when stopped. Consult service center. I text a picture of the message to the service advisor and he stated "this is a known issue with the BMW X1 - "gear selector is intermittently faulty." I goggled website and seen that this is a known and common defect that BMW is aware of and has not had a recall or rectified the flaw of a the very expensive repair of $3500-$4000. https://api.mykaarma.com/video-walkaround/details?inspection_uuid=633c4b329e372707d2413d1c&fileType=image_and_video
The entire sunroof shade needs to be replaced because the motor and metal no longer work causing the shade to hang and not close properly.
As car is placed in park, and even after the parking brake is applied a message on the dash board and alert pops up saying "Secure Vehicle from Rolling" even though I am on a very flat street. Under details it states "Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center." The parking brake is engaged!
Sunshae blind is falling off on one side causing bad view of a light while driving I'm a tall man. Electric issue possible causing the track to function wrong causing sun shade to tear off. Small amount thin line of adhesive can be seen on the cloth shade. Please issue something about this many drivers on car threads have this issue.
When putting the vehicle in park, I got an alert that said "secure car from rolling". I was unable to find this warning in the owner's manual but I found online that it is a frequent problem with this vehicle, usually around 40k miles. It's a broken spring in the shifter that requires that the entire center console be removed to be replaced but the part was $7.27 including shipping from China. However, other X1 owners report that they have been quoted $1000-$4050 to repair it. Because it's a common problem with this model, it should be a recall.
Warning sign in front dashboard. Transmission: Secure vechicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult Service Center. From doing research found out this warning message is very common in BMWX1 requiring a small spring to be changed in a lot of the vechicles. But no recall being issues yet by Bmw. Just astronomical fees to change a little spring.
My car only has 64K miles and it's giving message Secure Vehicle from Rolling. I've read this is a common fault with this car. Shouldn't this be part of recall.
Transmission error see service provider and park with emergency brake. Seems to be a lot of faulty springs in shifter on a lot of BMW’s. This should be a recall
I took my car for a new battery. I was told I needed to replace the gear selector.at a cost of 3,000. After reading reading several post about this situation happening to a bunch of people.it should be a recall.
Error message Secure Vehicle from Rolling
Every time I put the car in park I get a warning, "Secure Vehicle from Rolling", when I put the car in park.
"Secure vehicle against rolling" warning effecting my vehicle. Looking online, I can not believe how many others have this very same error. Bmw should do a fix recall because they want to charge 3000 dollars for a 5 dollar spring replacement.
The hatch will randomly auto-close either immediately after opening, or sometimes 15+ seconds after opening where you think it's safe to load items in or out. Sometimes it doesn't do it at all. Others report the issue: https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1392539 I had it in for other repairs and they quoted me at around $700 for repairs. Since it's intermittent, I'm not confident that's the fix and started seeing that others are reporting it. I think it's an issue BMW needs to address from a safety perspective. If you don't act fast enough and move out of the way, the hatch will hit my head and that's not enough resistance for it to stop at that point. You must push back on it with your arms to get it to stop. Some won't have the strength to resist it and could get really hurt.
have a 2017 BMW X1, and have an issue with the back hatch closing on its own ( Auto Hatch Closing Feature). It can close on it's own when i walk behind it, sometimes when i am sitting on the back changing my golf shoes...I have to get out of the way before it hits me in the head. I have even tried to push up on the hatch after it starts closing and it will continue to close. It could easily close on a small child or animal and cause harm. This is the foot sensor, and it is too sensitive. IBM says they have no iDrive software ( or did not know about it) to disable this feature in the 2017 model. It is dangerous and annoying.
The air conditioning in the car after changing the air filters has a nasty vinegar smell. Hundreds of others on BMW forums complain about the same thing.
THE REAR HATCH OF THE BMW WILL SPONTANEOUSLY CLOSE WITHOUT WARNING - CAUSING THE DOOR TO SLAM INTO ONES HEAD. THERE IS NO WAY OF DEACTIVATING THE FOOT SENSOR TO BLOCK THE HATCH FROM INADVERTENTLY CLOSING WHILE A PERSON IS IN THE VICINITY OF THE HATCH DOOR. -BMW IS STATIONARY WITH KEY FOB IN POCKET - LOADING ITEMS INTO REAR CARGO AREA - WITHOUT WARNING THE HATCH QUICKLY STARTS CLOSING HITTING A PERSON IN THE HEAD WITH TREMENDOUS FORCE
Mileage: 50,210
2017 BMW X1 REAR HATCH DOOR SHUTS PREMATURELY WITHOUT REASON WHICH ONE HAS TO QUICKLY GET OUT OF THE WAY TO AVOID INJURY. IN MY CASE, IT CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME AND, NO, MY FEET ARE NOT UNDER THE KICK SENSOR UNDER REAR BUMPER. BMW FORUM SAYS IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
Mileage: 60,000
THE TAILGATE CONSISTENTLY CLOSES ON ITS OWN. WITHOUT MY FOOT EVEN BEING NEAR THE SENSOR THAT IS LOCATED UNDER THE BACKEND. T HAS SLAMMED ME IN A BACK A FEW TIMES WHEN I'VE HAD MY HEADPHONES IN AND DID NOT HEAR THE BEEPING. I WON'T EVEN LET MY KNEES GET ANYTHING OUT OF IT. THE DEALERSHIP IN FL HAS ALLEGEDLY FIXED IT BUT CONTINUES TO DO IT. IT DID IT ON THE DEALERSHIP AS WELL. I MOVED IN AND CONTINUE TO DO IT TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP HERE IN PENNSYLVANIA AND THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. WHEN IT HIT YOU IN THE BACK IT HURTS REALLY BAD.
Mileage: 10,000
THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL (RECALL # 19V349). HOWEVER NO SOLUTION IS IN PLACE AND I'M AT RISK DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH REAR SEAT PASSENGERS (INCLUDING KIDS). THE RECALL CAME IN APRIL AND IT'S OCTOBER - WITH 6 MONTHS, NO SOLUTION HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AND NOTHING IS DONE FROM BMW.
PLEASE SEE ATTACHED IMAGE FROM CARFAX. THIS OPEN RECALL WAS OPENED 4/17/19 AND WITH NO REMEDY I'M UNABLE TO TRADE MY VEHICLE IN WITH A NON BMW DEALERSHIP. MY ONLY OPTION IS TO TRADE INTO THE DEALER AND THEY SELL AT AUCTION. I WILL TAKE A SUBSTANTIAL LOSS DOING THIS. I MOVED TO AN AREA LAST YEAR THAT RECEIVES A LOT OF SNOW AND ICE. MY CURRENT X1 STRUGGLES IN THOSE WEATHER CONDITIONS SO I WAS TRYING TO GET A BIGGER SUV. I CONTACTED BMW AND WAS NOT PROVIDED A TIMELINE A REMEDY WILL BE AVAILABLE AND THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO PRIORITIZE THIS MATTER. ALL I WAS TOLD IS PARTS ARE COMING IN SOMETIME THIS MONTH.
