TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 50-70 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BMW OF TOWSON (700 KENILWORTH DR, TOWSON, MD, (410) 317-2228) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,991.

I DROVE FROM LOS ANGELES, CA TO HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, CA OVER THE HOLIDAYS. THE PROBLEM STARTED TO OCCUR WHEN I WAS WITHIN 100 MILES OF MY DESTINATION TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEED. OVER THE WEEKND, MY BRAKES BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO PRESS. AS IF I HAVE NO MORE POWER ASSIST. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SEEN MY YEAR/MAKE/MODEL WAS AFFECTED. HOWEVER, BMW CLAIMS THAT MY VIN IS "UNAFFECTED " EVEN THOUGH I'M EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AS LISTED IN THE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 13V045000

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE BRAKE PADS STIFFENED AND THE PARKING BRAKE HAD TO BE ENGAGED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V045000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 94,000.

MY DASHBOARD LIGHT FLICK ENGINE , ABS,PARKING BREAK WILL SHUT OFF VEHICLE LESS THAN 10MIN DRIVING WITH CAUTION.
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING A RELATIVELY SLOW SPEEDS, IT REQUIRES AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE TO BE PLACED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ALSO, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED,, IT TAKES AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP IT STOPPED WHILE IN GEAR FOR EXAMPLE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. IT IS EXPERIENCING A LOSS OF POWER ASSIST IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE WAS COVERED BY A RECALL ISSUED IN 2013 BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF THE RECALL, AND THEREFORE DID NOT GET IT REPAIRED AS IT WAS WORKING NORMALLY. IN MID-DECEMBER 2015 THE PROBLEM BEGAN AND I TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, BMW SAYS THAT SINCE IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN 2 YEARS SINCE THE RECALL, THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM AT NO CHARGE. THE BRAKE ISSUE WAS NOTED TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A TRAFFIC CRASH DUE TO LOSS OF POWER ASSIST IN BRAKING. SINCE I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF THE SAFETY RECALL, I BELIEVE BMW SHOULD PAY FOR THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO MY VEHICLE TO RETURN IT TO SAFE OPERATION.

STARTED THE CAR AND GOT "PARKING BRAKE MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE. THE PARKING BRAKE COULD NOT BE DISENGAGED AND CAR COULDN'T MOVE. FOLLOWED INSTRUCTION TO RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE SO THE CAR CAN BE MOVED. THE CAR IS MOVABLE AFTER THAT, BUT THE PARKING BRAKE NO LONGER WORKED.

WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME INOPERABLE. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN AND IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IT TO STOP WITHOUT ADDING COMPLETE PRESSURE. WE HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE DOWN TO 1 LOW MANUAL TRANSMISSION TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO STOP COMPLETELY. FROM THAT POINT, THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT WORK AT ALL SO THE VEHICLE IS INOPERABLE DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. I CHECKED FOR RECALL'S AND MY MODEL YEAR WAS RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, HOWEVER I DO NOT HAVE A V8 ENGINE, SO BMW IS STATING I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR A RECALL. IT'S THE SAME PART, THE VACUUM ASSIST BRAKING SYSTEM.
