2024 BMW X5 with 22k miles, leasing the vehicle. Had the vehicle in the dealer, Herb Chambers BMW of Boston a few months ago to fix a brake recall and change the oil. Dealer said they fixed both, and also said they needed the vehicle all day to fix the brakes, so they got me an Uber and then dropped off the vehicle when it was completed. Fast forward to today, October 2, 2025. Drive train warning came up when driving the vehicle, told to find a safe place to stop, within 10 seconds the vehicle lost most of engine power. Was able to stop in a safe location, contacted roadside assistance, numerous warnings came up on screen. Roadside assistance said to start and stop the vehicle and this cleared the message, said that vehicle was safe to drive, it was probably just a sensor issue that put the vehicle into some type of safe mode (what a horrible thing to do, an enormously unsafe as the operator should determine this). Two days later, another drive train warning and the vehicle on it's own moved the transmission into neutral while driving at 30mph. This issue with going into neutral on it's own, I found out through speaking with my wife, that this happened a couple of week prior as well. I called road side assistance and had the vehicle towed, called the dealer to get a loaner as this vehicle is not safe to drive in it's current condition. After this issue, I looked my vehicle up by VIN and saw that the brake recall wasn't fixed yet to my surprise. When I spoke to the dealer today as the vehicle was being towed there with this drive train issue, I said were my brakes for this recall fixed, they said the software issue was fixed, but not the mechanical issue. I said please fix this brake recall while in there looking at this drive train issue. Vehicle is clearly not safe to drive in this condition, and you can use your imagination if this happened while driving at highway speeds or various other scenarios, not good at all.

The car suddenly dead in the intersection when driving the car, then can’t start the car, can’t shift the gear, stay in neutral position all the time. A message came out staying “Brake problem “! After around 20 minutes, system messaged us “problem solved, OK to drive “, so we were able to start the engine and start driving as normal. I called Service center let them know the scenario but got no answer. After 4 days same problem reoccurring again, this time car dead during left turn, fortunately no car hit our car (we were having 2 babies in the car). A lot of messages showed up, still mentioned “Brake problems “, and after 15-20 minutes, message us again - “Problem solved, ok to drive “. We have AAA tow the car to BMW service center later since we didn’t feel the message was reliable. The service center identified the problem and replaced the Mechatronics Control Unit and returned the car to us after 7 days. I am concerned about the car’s system message, it’s mentioned “Problem solved, OK to drive “, the message could misleading and have been fatal if we continued driving the vehicle to freeway. After we got vehicle back we were still very cautious about the car. I sent my concern to New Central BMW Alhambra CA about one month ago -to the service manager and requested a written explanation of why this faulty message occurred and how BMW engineer plans to prevent this from happening again. But there was no answer so far. There were a “Brake problem recall” and a “Emission Recall “for this vehicle and we went through the procedure already before these 2 brake problems.

My BMW X5 has a recall on the braking system that was sent to me on October 2024 and still nothing has been done about it yet, the dealer always says it's not available yet, I believe this problem should be fixed by now and wonder if BMW will ever fix this problem, I believe they have had enough time to correct this. Test DSC hydronic unit. Drive carefully! Take to your nearest dealer! Brake booster malfunction on recall but my vin number doesn’t show up on recall

I have had an open recall for BRAKING since February 12. Both BMW USA and my local deal say they cannot or will not fix the issue. Again, this is for braking. BMW USA has not responded to multiple emails. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. It is on a lease and I wish to terminate the lease with no penalty.

Aug 15, 2025

I have recently experienced sudden phantom braking on my vehicle on three separate occasions, following a recall on a brake module that was taken care of at the dealer. Each time this happened at highway speed for no apparent reason. The dealer, BMW of Buffalo has had the car for over a week without finding the problem. They have been in constant touch with corporate, trying to diagnose this. No luck! I will not drive this Vehicle, nor can I in good conscie nce trade it in to another dealer. I could be held liable. I'm wondering what you may have on record since there are reports on the web of similiar occurances

Aug 3, 2025

There has been no incident. This safety recall was issued on February 2024. BMW is still unable, or unwilling, to provide the parts to remedy this safety recall.

Jul 4, 2025

I received a recall notice for Integrated Brake Failure on February 2024, but the manufacturer has still not provided a remedy or parts as of July 4th 2025. I contacted the dealer and was told there is no ETA for the repair. I believe this delay is unreasonable, and I am concerned about the safety implications of continuing to drive the vehicle

SAFETY RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR OVER A YEAR AND MY VEHICLE HAS STILL NOT BEEN REPAIRED.

May 21, 2025

I purchased this vehicle under my company to rent and make some extra income for my family. We also had a baby in August of 2024 so wanted a larger vehicle for the family. We purchased the vehicle on Feb 20,2024 and the recall was issued on Feb 14,2024. We were sold a lemon. I went to the dealership and told them they said they will have a solution in a year. Still no solution and I still cannot rent my vehicle because it has an open recall. Me and my family do not feel safe in this vehicle. Please can someone help. I am willing to return the car or even exchange for a vehicle that doesn’t have a recall as soon as I drive off the lot. Thank you.

As I was turning into a disabled parking space the vehicle speed suddenly increased speed by itself and hitting the brakes had no effect on the speed. This caused the vehicle to hit a concrete pillar that held the handicap parking sign

Mar 21, 2025

THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE WENT "SOFT" ON ONE OCCASION; THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEM THAT HAS BEEN OUTSTANDING FOR OVER A YEAR. BMW SEEM NO CLOSER TO FIXING THIS PROBLEM THAN THEY DID A YEAR AGO. BMW STATE THERE IS A FIX BEING IMPLEMENTED (IM NOT SURE I BELIEVE THEM) BUT WHATEVER THEY ARE OR ARE NOT DOING ITS TOO SLOW.

Mar 11, 2025

Since February 2024, our vehicle has had an open recall for the integrated brake system, potentially affecting braking performance. BMW refuses to schedule a repair, claiming parts are unavailable. In reality, when they do have parts, they prioritize fixing vehicles for sale on their dealer lots while leaving current customers in potentially unsafe cars.

Feb 28, 2025

Considering the open recall and lack of repair after 12 months for the braking system we want to give the vehicle back to the manufacturer. It's a major safety concern and we have small children.

Dec 24, 2024

This is a known recall and no remedy has been made available by BMW. This puts me and anyone riding with me at risk of injury or death.

Dec 3, 2024

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 24V104 - IN RELATION TO THIS RECALL FILED ON 12 FEB 2024 I HAVE EXPERIENCED RANDOM ANOMALIES WITH THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MY VEHICLES BRAKING WHICH DIDN'T ALARM ME BECAUSE I ATTRIBUTED THEM TO ROAD CONDITIONS OR MY LATENESS IN APPLYING THE BRAKES... SOME OTHER THING THAN A DEFECT IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL NOTICE AS I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION OF THIS DEFECT FROM BMW ALTHOUGH AT ONE POINT SOMETHING CAME UP ON THEIR (BMW) APP FOR THE VEHICLE BUT QUICKLY DISAPPEARED BEFORE I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO READ IT. IT HAS BEEN TEN MONTHS SINCE THIS NOTICE WAS ISSUED, I CANNOT SEE ANYWHERE THAT IT HAS BEEN RECANTED, AND KNOWING I AM DRIVING A VEHICLE WHERE THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS SUSPECT MAKES ME NERVOUS. BMW NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND PROVIDE ME WITH AN ALTERNATIVE VEHICLE TO DRIVE.

There is a recall on the car’s braking system that can malfunction at any moments. The issue was discovered back in Feb 2024 10 mos ago & no solution it’s a huge risk as per BMW to me my family & anyone on the road. 10 months and no solution is unacceptable it’s DANGEROUS

Nov 26, 2024

My vehicle has been on a safety recall since February, 2024 and I have taken it to dealership few times they didn't fix it. I called them many times about the issue they just keep ignoring me and failing to fix it.

Nov 7, 2024

The recall was issued in Feb 2024 and the BMW still has not remedy for the problem. This is a serious recall and poses a serious safety risk to my health and life. Per BMW: "In Some Cases, There Will Be A Reduction In Power Assist Braking, Which Could Lead To An Extended Stopping Distance And Increase The Risk Of A Crash. The Antilock Brake System (ABS) And Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) System May Not Function, Which Could Also Affect Braking Performance As Well As Vehicle Handling And Control. However, Fully Mechanical Braking Is Not Affected And, If The IB System Is Not Functioning Properly, The Parking (Emergency) Brake Will Be Automatically Activated To Aid In Braking Performance And Help Maintain Vehicle Stability And Control"

Oct 20, 2024

I had a situation where the vehicle brakes were not effective on the freeway and had severe vibration while hitting the pedal, I had to almost pump the brakes to come to a complete stop. the car had no warnings and the dealership was notified, they claimed there is an open recall for the braking system and the remedy is unavailable.

The braking system started malfunctioning. it was taking a longer distance and longer time to bring the car to a stop. All of a sudden there was a thump and warning lights came on. The warning light said the parking brake was no longer operable and was not available to help brake the car. The 2024 BMW X5 only has about 6,200 miles on it when this happened..

As you can see, there is an open recall on my vehicle. This seems to be impacting roughly 80 thousand cars in the US. BMW does not have parts to fix this recall and is continuing to ask drivers to keep driving their cars with defective breaking system. I wanted to know what action you may take against a manufacturer that is essentially asking owners to keep driving unsafe cars on US highways presumably causing a dangerous situation for everyone.

Aug 15, 2024

In February,2024[12th]. BMW FILED A RECALL NOTICE ABOUT A DEFECTIVE PART IN THE BRAKING SYSTEMS OF 2023,2024 models 5series, 7 series, x1,x5,x6,x7 and Xm. My vehicle was made in mid March and delivered early April. Supposedly according to my source , BMW received replacement parts from the vendor and production continued. I’m not sure if it ever stopped. The problem is BMW NEVER TESTED THESE NEW PARTS TO SEE IF THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THIS IS CLEARLY NEGLIGENCE ON THEIR PART. THE DEGREE THE LAWYERS CAN DETERMINE. NOW AROUND August12, BMW ISSUED A STOP SALE ON ALL THESE CARS INCLUDING SOME 2025 MODELS. ONLY BECAUSE I READ A USER BLOG ON LINE ABOUT THIS AND CHECKED MY VIN WAS I AWARE IT AFFECTED MY CAR. NO NOTICE FROM BMW. This was not a don’t drive notice. The effect on owners is they can’t trade or sell their cars. There does not seem to be a requirement that BMW file a STOP SALE order with NHTSA. I DON’T BELIEVE THEY FILED A SUBSEQUENT NOTICE TO THE FEBRUARY FILING. Every day there are recall notices. Most are narrow in scope but this will involve umpteen thousands of cars. There is no end date because they don’t know when a new part will be available. Once available it could be many months before owners are able to have the problem part replaced. It takes 2+ hours a car. The dealers are already overwhelmed because of limited space and mechanics. If these companies don’t get fined for this type of behavior, it will not stop. I am talking millions in fines. The FAA does it. More people drive than fly yet it seems the Federal Transportation Department does not have or doesn’t want to exercise this option. Just look at what has been going on for over 15 years with Takata airbags which could be fatal if opened. Just today 577,000 cars from Ford and Mazda were issued a DO NOT DRIVE notice on the news. Granted they were for older models but people who need transportation will still drive. Why hasn’t the government over the past 15+ years stopped the buying of them.

The contact owns a 2024 BMW X5. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, attempting to depress the brake pedal however there was a reduction in the power assist braking leading to the vehicle crashing into another vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The front passenger side of the vehicle crashed into the rear end of the other. The crash occurred on an unstated off-ramp from a highway to a main street. The air bags were not deployed. The vehicle was drivable. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not destroyed. The vehicle was driven to a certified collision repair center and the contact received a diagnosis stating that the front bumper along with several other things needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was notified that the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC), SERVICE BRAKES) however, the parts was not available; the VIN was not included before the crash. My 2024 BMW X5 has been on recall which is The Integrated Brake (IB) system/ safety recall since February, 2024. The brake system is not functioning properly and sometimes the car brakes automatically by itself which is a concerning issue and may lead to a crash. I have reached out BMW of Silver Spring many times they just don't care and they keep saying we can not do anything at this time and I even drove there couple times to talk to them at the dealership they keep saying same thing we are waiting for the parts. I received a call from one of their service department people called Alex said we have the parts available and we can service your vehicle I was out of town for work and when I came back to Virginia and drove to dealership and asked the same person who called me about the recall repair he said we don't have the parts available and we can not do anything at this time. I told him you called me that you guys have it available and I was out of town and when I returned to Virginia and drove from Stafford, Virginia all the way to BMW of Silver Spring, Maryland for 2 hours with traffic and he kept lying to me that we have to wait and he said he will call me soon in few weeks but it has been months he never called me. and I called him and asked him you never called me how are we going to solve this issue or BMW needs take care of this issue he said I have to call the Corporate I called BMW corporate they keep saying we don't have any answer or we can't tell how long does it take. so the car has been on safety recall for 6 months now and BMW has failing to solve this issue and I have had the worst experience with BMW.

While driving on a highway, several lights illuminated on my dashboard instrument cluster, including the ABS light, a red BRAKE light, a yellow PARK light, and the dynamic stability control light. The message center reported to "drive carefully" however none of this appeared urgent. I decided I should maybe test my breaks as I was curious what the problem was. I then proceeded to gently tap my brakes to see what all of this meant, and to my horror, my brake pedal went completely to the ground with no brakes initiated. Thankfully, I was able to move over onto the shoulder and coast to a stop and place my car in Park. The emergency brake would not initiate. This could have ended terribly awful.

The Integrated Brake system is not working properly. Received a recall notice in April 2024 and it is now 3 months later and it is still not fixed. Visited the BMW dealership and discussed the matter with them and they offered no information as to when it would be fixed. We just have to wait until they notify us. BMW stated that they will only fix it if the dashboard warning came on and they will look into fixing the problem. Why do I have to wait for the problem to become an issue before they address it. I think by then it might be too late. We asked for a loaner since they can't get it fixed in a timely manner and I was told, "just to drive the car". This is an accident waiting to happen. So, I am asking the NHTSA to assist in correcting this issue. I know I can't be the only one in this situation.

Jul 8, 2024 Crash

Safety features did not work. I was parking and when brakes were pressed car accelerated instead of stopping, plowing into the car ahead and two additional cars. No automatic braking, no manual braking. The car is now in a BMW shop for repairs and evaluation. My warning features did not activate.

Jun 23, 2024

This recall was issued Feb.21 2024, to this date BMW has not fixed the problem. Called them, and they were unwilling to commit to anything. All they said was to wait for the fix. As it stands, the vehicle is unsafe to drive, it CANNOT BE SOLD OR TRADED. I would either like them to conduct a BUYBACK OR FIX THE PROBLEM.

Jun 6, 2024

No incident. However, I do want to highlight the fact that even after almost 4 months BMW has no remedy for my VIN number for this recall: NHTSA Recall Number 24V104. I am hoping that NHTSA can put more pressure on BMW to expedite remedy of this recall.
