i was driving fine until i slowed down and tried to turn, the steering wheel was hard to turn and making a grinding noise. it works fine going on the highway. i noticed this was a big issue with the enclave and wondering why this isnt recalled? ive spent enough money on this that i didnt have and cant afford another expense. i do not have a warranty on it. no check engines light and fluids are good
The contact owns a 2008 Buick Enclave. The contact stated while driving 3-5 MPH and making a turn, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's husband was able to continue driving the vehicle however, extra effort was needed to steer the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The contact stated that upon depressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle regained power steering functionality. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. THE POWER STEERING ON MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN FAILING MORE FREQUENTLY TO THE POINT I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I AM A POLIO SURVIVOR AND DEPEND ON THE FULL FUNCTION OF MY RIGHT ARM @ ALL TIMES. SINCE PURCHASING THE 2008 ENCLAVE IN JUNE 2019, THE POWER STEERING HAS BEGUN FAILING EVERY TIME I USE THE VEHICLE. THE WORST FAILURE WAS ON THE FREEWAY @ 80 MPH WHILE RETURNING HOME TO IDAHO, FROM THE DEATH OF MY FATHER IN TUSCON. THE STEERING FAILED WHILE I WAS NEGOTIATING A CURVE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT OF THE CURVE @ THE LAST MINUTE. IT SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH! OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS, THE STEERING HAS BECOME MORE IMPOSSIBLE TO MANAGE, WHICH HAS CAUSED THE ROTATOR CUFF OF MY RIGHT ARM TO BECOME EXCEEDINGLY MORE PAINFUL. THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAS BEEN AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH THESE CARS TO THE POINT OF THE PUMP BEING REDESIGNED BY GMC. I FEEL THIS ISSUE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND WARRANTS A RECALL. I HAVE CHANGE THE ALTERNADOR, THE PURGE VALVE, THE VALVE CANISTER ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK AND THE OTHER SENSOR THAT TELL YOU ABOUT THE FUMES OF THE TANK WENT FILLING. I ALSO CHANGE THE PCV VALVE ALL THE BREATHERS HOSES IN THE INTAKE HOUSING , I CHANGE THE TROUTLE BODY, THE SPARK PLUGS, THE COILS, THE INTAKE GASKETS, THE OXIGENTS SENSORS,THE BATERY POLES. AND THIS SUV STILL GIVING ME PROBLEMS NOW IT WENT TO A TRANSMISSION LIMP MODE AND IS NOT COMING OUT NOT EVEN IF YOU ERASE THE CODES AND ALL FUSES ARE GOOD.

THIS CAR IS A MESS. IT DIDN'T PASS THE STATE EMISSION TEST STICKER. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE STABILITY TRACK CONTROL SYSTEM. ARE BRINGING UP A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WITH ERROR CODE P0174 AND P0171. EVERY TIME THOSE SYSTEM SHOWED UP IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL I GOT A FOLLOW UP CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND TWO GMC BUICK DEALER HAVE SAID DIFFERENT FIX METHOD. VERY BACK FOR ME. THEY WANT TO FIX DIFFERENT PROBLEMS. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM IS. THEY ARE GUESSING.

ONLINE RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE STEERING WORKED ON ONCE BEFORE AFTER HAVING DIFFICULTY TURNING THE WHEEL. NOW AFTER SPENDING $4K IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS, I AM BEING TOLD THE RACK AND PINION (WHICH IS THE SAME AS THE GEAR BOX) IS LEAKING AGAIN! I ONLY HAVE 74K MILES ON THIS CAR! I PREVIOUSLY HAD A 1990 CHEVY SUBURBAN THAT NEVER HAD THESE KINDS OF ISSUES! AND YET HERE ALONE I SEE OVER 80 ISSUES FOR THE POWER STEERING ALONE! MAKE GM RECALL THIS VEHICLE OR I FULLY INTEND TO START A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND INCLUDE YOUR ORGANIZATION AS WELL FOR FAILURE TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC!

I HAD THE LAST POWER STEERING PUMP PUT IN AT 149,432 MILES 11/23/16. MY CONCERN TO YOU AND BUICK IS ABOUT EVERY 25K POWER STEERING GOES OUT. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 75K MILES ON IT AND BEEN MAITAINED VERY WELL! THE TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT WILL COST 5K DOLLARS TO REPLACE DUE TO A WAVE PLATE ISSUE. WHAY HAS THIS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED WITH RECALL? IN ADDITION TO THAT THE STERRING HAS A TERRIBLE SOUND COMING FROM IT AND THIS IS NOT BEING DIAGNOSED RIGHT. ALL THE BUICK DEALERS WANT TO DO IS CHARGE FOR A REPAIR INSTEAD OF REALLY FIXING THE PROBLEM. STEERING WHEEL SQUEAKING AND RUBBING ON SOMETHING WHEN TURNING? WHEN I TURN FROM SIDE TO SIDE I CAN FEEL A SLIGHT DRAG AND RUBBING/SQUEAKING NOISE. I WAS TOLD IT IS THE STEERING RACK. I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH AND SEE COMPLAINTS OF THIS DATING BACK TO 2009. IF THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS WHY HAVE THEY NOT DONE A RECALL. THE REPAIR COST THAT WAS QUOTED IS HIGH OVER ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. THERE IS ALSO THE THE SERVICE LIGHTS AND STALLIG THAT RESETS ITSELF ON THE BUICK ENCLAVE IT HAPPENS WHEN VEHECIL IS SITTING STILL THE DOORS LOCK AND UNLOCK AND THE LIGHTS FLASH AND THE CAR ENGINE MAKES A SOUND AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN TWICE FOR THIS AND IT SEEMS TO RESET ITSELF BECAUSE DEALER DOES NOT FIND A PROBLEM.

THE MECHANIC CALLED AFTER ALL OF THIS WORK AND SAID IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE BACK TIRE KEPT LOCKING UP AND PUTTING HIM INTO A SKID WHILE HE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. WE THEN HAD TO HAVE A YAW SENSOR REPLACED. WE'VE ONLY HAD IT BACK FOR A DAY AND ARE HOPING THE PROBLEM IS FIXED BUT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD US THAT WHEN THE ORIGINAL POWER STEERING PUMP IS REPLACED THE ABS SYSTEM CAN'T KEEP UP WHICH LOCKS YOUR TIRES WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION.

FRIDAY DEC 26TH AT 4:30 PM I WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE INTO RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON I-35 WHEN I HAD A CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THERE WERE NO ALARMS, LIGHTS, NOISES, SMELLS OR ANYTHING ELSE TO ALERT ME TO THE FACT THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ABOUT TO FAIL. AS I MERGED MY RPM'S SUDDENLY WENT PAST 5000 AND MY 2008 ENCLAVE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. BY THE GRACE OF GOD THERE WAS NO LOSS OF LIFE, MINE OR THE OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME, AS MY VEHICLE LOST POWER. I WAS SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT THE SITUATION DESCRIBED ABOVE IS NOT AN ISOLATED EVENT. LIKE SO MANY OTHERS BEFORE ME MY VEHICLE (AT 80,000 MILES) WAS DIAGNOSED WITH WAVE PLATE FAILURE (P0776). I HAVE CALLED GM AND REQUESTED THAT THEY PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE IT'S DUE TO A FAULTY PART, BUT THEIR RESPONSE IS TO DENY, DENY, DENY. THE MANAGER I SPOKE TO STATED THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL SO GM IS NOT OBLIGATED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE MOST DISTRESSING PART OF THIS SITUATION IS NOT THE $3500.00 I'LL BE PAYING AFTER GM'S "ASSISTANCE". IT IS THE FACT THAT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE HIGH FAILURE RATE OF THE GM WAVE PLATE. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A CHANCE TO FIX IT BEFORE I WAS PUT IN SUCH A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS LIKE A TICKING TIME BOMB. THANKFULLY, THE "BOMB" GOING OFF IN MY ENCLAVE DIDN'T RESULT IN ANY CASUALTIES, BUT IS THAT WHAT IT'S GOING TO TAKE TO GET A RECALL? WHEN I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS CUSTOMER CARE, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN CONDITION FOR WHICH SPECIAL COVERAGE #14329 WAS ISSUED. VEHICLE WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED TO THE RIGHT. THE RESULTING JERKING MOVEMENT/FEEDBACK RESULTED IN THE OPERATOR UNDER STEERING THE VEHICLE AND STRIKING A LARGE BOULDER ON THE SHOULDER OF THE PARKING LOT ENTRANCE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER, SKIRTING AND RIGHT FRONT FENDER. THIS VEHICLE HAD IT'S POWER STEERING RACK REPLACED LESS THAN 12 MONTHS PRIOR FOR THE SAME PERFORMANCE ISSUE. IN THE SUMMER OF 2010 GM REDESIGNED THE POWER STEERING RACKS FOR ALL LAMBDA PLATFORM VEHICLES (BUICK ENCLAVE, GMC ACADIA, SATURN OUTLOOK, AND CHEVY TRAVERSE) PRESUMABLY AS A RESULT OF COMPLAINTS LODGED BY CUSTOMERS DIRECTLY THROUGH DEALERS OR GENERAL MOTORS.

I WAS DRIVING MY ENCLAVE AND I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT I LOST POWER STEERING. I CALLED ON STAR AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT SOMETHING THEY COULD DIAGNOSE. SUGGESTED I CHECK THE PS FLUID...I DID AND IT WAS JUST BELOW THE MIN LINE. I ADDED FLUID, IT GOT BETTER BUT I COULD STILL SENSE SOME PROBLEM. MY 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE BECAME UNABLE TO CONTROL IN THE RAIN AT 55 MPH. TOOK TO DEALER AFTER 3 DAY RUN AROUND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN ON THIS VEHICLE THAT THE STEERING POSITION SENSOR BECAME WET AND STARTED BOOSTING STEERING CONTROL. THEY REPLACED SENSOR AND INNER FENDERS (TO KEEP MOISTURE OFF SENSOR) THIS VEHICLE WAS THE MOST DANGEROUS THING I HAVE EVER TRIED TO CONTROL. SNOWY CONDITIONS - ABOUT 2 INCHES ON THE GROUND; AS I BEGAN TO DESCEND THE HILL NEAR MY HOME I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO KEEP A SLOW PACE DOWN THE HILL. BRAKES FAILED AND I BEGAN TO SLIDE DOWN THE HILL. STEERING WAS UNRESPONSIVE; MESSAGES INTERCHANGEABLY FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD - 'SERVICE STABILITRAK' AND 'SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL'. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE, AND HALFWAY DOWN THE HILL JUMPED AN 8" CURB. FORTUNATE THAT THE VEHICLE SWERVED TO THE RIGHT BECAUSE THERE WERE PARKED CARS TO THE LEFT. ALSO, FORTUNATE THERE WERE NO PEOPLE/CHILDREN AROUND, WHO COULD HAVE BEEN HIT. $3000 DAMAGE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. VERY FRIGHTENING TO LOSE COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE CAR - I THOUGHT AWD, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND STABILITRAK ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP THE DRIVER MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS. EVERYTHING FAILED AT ONCE. GOT THE VEHICLE TO THE CLOSEST GM DEALERSHIP; THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND SURPRISE, EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT. THEY HAVE NO INDICATION ANYTHING FAILED, SO NOTHING FURTHER THEY CAN DO EXCEPT REPAIR THE PHYSICAL DAMAGE. I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF BRAKES, STEERING, TRACTION, AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL AND THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME I DID NOT - THAT THE CONDITIONS WERE SLICK AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. ISN'T THAT WHEN ALL OF THOSE SAFETY FEATURES ARE SUPPOSED TO ENGAGE? THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCED A MALFUNCTION LIKE THIS IN THIS VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING ON RANDALL ROAD TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MPH. I SLOWED TO ENTER A RIGHT TURN LANE AND THE STEERING BEGAN TO SHUDDER WHEN I MOVED THE STEERING WHEEL. I BRAKED AGGRESSIVELY AND WAS ABLE AFTER MUCH EFFORT TO MANEUVER THE ENCLAVE INTO A PARKING SPACE. I PHONED MY HUSBAND AND UPON ARRIVAL FOUND THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. HE PHONED THE DEALER AND BUICK ASSISTANCE. AFTER 3 HOURS THE CAR WAS LOADED ON A TRUCK AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE SERVICE PERSON STATED THAT THE COOLER LINE HAD DEVELOPED A PIN HOLE LEAK AND LOST FLUID TO THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. I AM STILL WAITING SINCE THE STEERING PUMP WAS ALSO DAMAGED. NO MENTION OF REPLACING THE RACK AND PINION (MY HUSBANDS HELP WITH THAT TERM). I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING A CAR THAT THE STEERING LOCKS UP IF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILS. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL OUTCOME UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES BECAUSE I COULD NOT STEER THE CAR. THIS IS THE THIRD SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM SINCE IT WAS DELIVERED DECEMBER 31, 2007. THE DRIVER WINDSHIELD WIPER CAME LOOSE (HUSBAND FIXED) AND THE RIGHT REAR STRUT WELD FAILED LEAKING OIL ALL OVER THE GARAGE FLOOR AND MAKING THE CAR FEEL LOOSE DRIVING IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. WE HAVE ALSO NOTICED THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT SIGN DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. I DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR. THE ONLY BRIGHT SPOT IS THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN VERY RESPONSIVE. *TR
