THE DEALER STATED IT WOULD COST $150 TO REPLACE THE AIR BAG MODULE FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. ALSO, THE VEHICLE STALLED SLIGHTLY WHEN DRIVING UP A SHORT HILL. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER CONCLUDED THE FENDER WAS RUBBING ON THE TIRE WHEN TURNING LEFT AND THEY SIMPLY RE-POSITIONED THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER. ON ONE OCCASION, WHEN THE CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE, HE HEARD A STRANGE NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE AIR BAG MODULE IN MY LACROSSE IS BEING REPLACED FOR THE FOURTH TIME. IT FAILED THE FIRST TIME AROUND 40,000 MILES AND WAS REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY. IT FAILED AGAIN AROUND 80,000 AND I PAID TO HAVE IT REPLACED AROUND $900.00. I NOW HAVE 117,647 MILES ON THE CAR AND IT IS BEING REPLACED AGAIN. GM SAID THEY WOULD PAY $500.00 OF THE REPAIR COST. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THESE MODULE BREAK BUT IT WOULD SEEMS THAT THIS WOULD BE A PART THAT RARELY BREAKS. I BELIEVE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN ESTABLISHED AND THAT IT WILL GO OUT AGAIN IN 30,000 MILES. THE UNIT IS LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT AND BELIEVE THAT HE WIRING IS SHORTING OUT ON THE SEAT TRACK. IF THE RED INDICATOR IS ON AN I MOVE MY SEAT IT GOES OUT IN LESS THAN A MINUTE. WITH THE CUSHION IN PLACE ON THE PASSENGERS SEAT, THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE SEAT WILL NOT DETECT HER PRESENCE, AND THEREFORE THE AIRBAG IS TURNED OFF. WITHOUT THE CUSHION THE AIRBAG IS TURNED ON.

THE PASSENGER WEIGHED 121 POUNDS. THE AIR BAG WILL STAY ON AND ACTIVATE WHEN THE OWNER WAS IN THE SEAT WEIGHING ABOUT 50 POUNDS MORE THAN THE PASSENGER. THE OWNER HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE CHECKED, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE, AND IT COULD BE THE MAGNETIC FIELD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND THEY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE MAGNETIC FIELD. THEY COULD NOT HELP EITHER. THE OWNER SAID THAT HE COULD NOT GET LT FIXED BECAUSE THE DEALER INDICATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE OWNER SAID THAT IT WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND NO ONE CAN FIX IT.
