The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power and the contact was able to coast to the shoulder of the road. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle seemed to return to normal functionality; however, the failure had since become a regular failure. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,000.

The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was previously repaired under an unknown recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ALLOWED OTHER COMPONENTS TO FUNCTION INCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, THE HEATER, AND THE DOOR LOCKS. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED AND WAS CONCERNED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS HACKED. THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY FAILED TO START OR TURN OVER. THE ENGINE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE CONTACT WAS ONCE LOCKED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND ALMOST SUFFERED FROM HEAT EXHAUSTION. THE CONTACT STATED HE WAS DISABLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DISMISSED THE ISSUE STATING THAT THEY ONLY DEALT WITH NEWER VEHICLES. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR DOWN THE ROAD IT WILL "RANDOMLY" SHUT OFF. GIVING NO INDICATION OTHER THEN DIMMING LIGHTS. NEITHER THE DEALERSHIP OR THE GARAGE I WENT TO CAN EXPLAIN IT. THE POWER STEERING DOESNT WORK AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH ON THE HIGHWAY AND TOWN ROADS.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR EVERYTHING WAS PERFECTLY WORKING.I PARKED FOR THE NIGHT BEHIND MY HOUSE NO PROBLEMS. I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR THE NEXT MORNING AND ALL OF THE DASH GAUGES AS WELL AS THE REVERSE LIGHTS WERE OUT. I TOOK IT TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP WITH NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE CLUSTER PANEL WAS REPLACED WITH NO LUCK OF THE PROBLEM BEING RESOLVED. FUSES WERE REPLACED ALSO. THIS IS NOT ONLY UPSETTING BUT IT IS ALSO DANGEROUS. I CAN NOT AND DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. HOW DO I KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE OR HOW FAST I AM TRAVELING. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS COME UP BEFORE WITH NO SOLUTION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

I PURCHASED IGNITION COILS, WIRES, AND SHARK PLUG FOR MY VEHICLE. I GET ON HICKORY HILL RD HEADING TO RAINES RD. I GET THE RED LIGHT ON HICKORY HILL RD AND RAINES RD I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN AS I TRAVEL DOWN HICKORY HILL RD I STARTED TO SEE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER MY TWO FRONT SEATS. I MADE A RIGHT ON RIDGE HILL DR TO GET OUT THE VEHICLE AT MY RELATIVE HOME. I CALLED A MECHANIC TO DO THE LABOR ON THE VEHICLE JUST IT WAS STILL IN THE SAME CONDITION AFTER THE NEW PARTS. SO I CAME TO MY VEHICLE TO GET MY PERSONAL ITEMS THAT THURSDAY APRIL 20,2017 I NOTICE A DEEP BURN LOCATION ON THE MIDDLE OF THE CARPET. I THEN PULL THE FRONT CARPET UP AND I SEEN EVERYTHING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE WAS BURNED.

MARCH 2016 DROVE CAR OVER LOCAL HIGHWAY TO LOCAL MALL AND PARKED. RETURNED TO CAR AFTER SHOPPING TO HEAD HOME AND CAR WOULD NOT START. APPEARED TO BE DEAD. CALLED TOWING COMPANY. WHEN THEY OPENED THE HOOD TO ATTEMPT TO JUMP START, NOTICED HORRIBLE BURNING SMELL AND TOW DRIVER POINTED OUT THAT WIRES APPEARED BURNED AND SHARED THAT SOMETHING WAS VERY WRONG. TOWED CAR TO OWN REPAIR SHOP. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUSE BOX IN THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETED FRIED ALONG WITH THE ATTACHED WIRING AFFECTING THE COMPUTERS, ETC. SUGGESTED CALL TO INSURANCE COMPANY AS WOULD COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX AND EVEN THEN NO GUARANTEE IT WOULD WORK PROPERLY AGAIN. INSURANCE COMPANY DECLARED CAR TOTAL LOSS AND WOULD NOT PAY AS IT CAME UNDER THE 'MECHANICAL FAILURE' CLAUSE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL 14V755 THAT DISPLAYS ONLY WHEN SEARCHING BY VIN. THE RECALL STILL DISPLAYS THAT 'REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE'. ALSO FOUND ENTRIES IN SAFERCAR.GOV OF SAME SITUATION HAPPENING TO OTHERS WITH THE ENGINE CATCHING FIRE. NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. UNAWARE OF THIS RECALL, WAS HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE LIGHTS NOT WORKING PROPERLY 8/2015 AND HAD OWN REPAIR SHOP REPLACE THIS MODULE ON 8/2015 WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. CAR IN OVERALL EXCELLENT CONDITION AND NOW RENDERED USELESS.

S10- DIRECT REPLY- LETTER TO THE SECRETARY FROM CONSTITUENT REGARDING ASSISTANCE WITH A SAFETY RECALL OF A 2005 BUICK LACROSSE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN GO OFF. THE DEALER STATED IT WOULD COST $150 TO REPLACE THE AIR BAG MODULE FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. ALSO, THE VEHICLE STALLED SLIGHTLY WHEN DRIVING UP A SHORT HILL. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER CONCLUDED THE FENDER WAS RUBBING ON THE TIRE WHEN TURNING LEFT AND THEY SIMPLY RE-POSITIONED THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER. ON ONE OCCASION, WHEN THE CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE, HE HEARD A STRANGE NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. FOR MONTHS PRIOR AT NIGHT MY LOW BEAMS WOULD DIM AND GET BRIGHTER PERIODICALLY. THEN AS I WAS DRIVING ONE MORNING I BEGAN TO SMELL AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. LUCKILY I WAS ON MY WAY HOME WHICH WAS LESS THAN A HALF MILE AWAY. WHEN I GOT HOME I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE FUSE BOX. I IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE AND PROCEEDED TO INVESTIGATE WHAT HAPPENED. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION THE HDM MODULE HAD FAILED AND WAS MELTED RIGHT INTO THE FUSE BLOCK. IF I HAD DRIVEN ANY LONGER THAN I DID I FEEL LIKE MY CAR WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY CAUGHT FIRE. LUCKILY I GOT HOME SAFE AND PREVENTED ANY FURTHER DAMAGE FROM MY CAR.

THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT NIGHT WHEN SUDDENLY THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LEAVE THE ROAD AS HE WAS GOING THRU A TURN AT THE TIME. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THE CAR ONLY SUFFERED MINOR DAMAGE. IT HAD TO BE PULLED OUT OF THE DITCH. AFTER THE CAR WAS DRIVEN HOME LESS THAN A MILE AWAY, I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THAT THE FUSE BOX HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE AND A PORTION MELTED. THIS ALSO DAMAGED THE WIRING CONNECTED TO THE FUSE BOX. I AM NOT SURE WHAT OTHER COMPONENTS HAVE FAILED AS A RESULT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN OPERABLE SINCE. I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND HAVE SPENT $300 AND COUNTLESS HOURS ON LABOR SO FAR. THIS SAME PROBLEM IS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED ON 2006 AND UP BUICK LACROSSE'S. I WOULD LIKE FOR THE 2005 MODELS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE PENDING RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE FOR $8,000 AND NOW I AM NOT SURE IT WILL EVER RUN AGAIN.

PRIOR TO THE FIRST VISIT, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN PARK, ALL OF THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK. AFTER THE FIRST VISIT, THEY WOULD HAVE TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, REMOVE THE KEY AND AFTER REMOVING THE KEY ALL OF THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK. AFTER THE SECOND VISIT, THE DOORS WORKED PROPERLY, BUT WHEN THE CONSUMERS MOTHER WENT TO START THE VEHICLE WITH THE REMOTE START THE FOLLOWING MORNING, IT DID NOT WORK. THE REMOTE START WORKED PRIOR TO THE RECALL. AFTER THE THIRD VISIT, THE CONSUMERS FATHER WAS GIVEN TWO KEYS AND TWO TRANSMITTERS. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM, THEY COULD NO LONGER HELP HIM AND THE ONLY WAY THE PROBLEM COULD BE CORRECTED WAS TO PURCHASE TWO NEW KEYS, TWO NEW TRANSMITTERS AND THE REPROGRAM EACH AT A COST OF $ 390.00. THE CONSUMERS PARENTS CALLED ANOTHER DEALER AND WAS QUOTED A PRICE A $100 CHEAPER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. *JB
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD LOST LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS AS WELL AS DAY TIME LIGHTS , SMELLED SMALL BURNING ODOR AND DISCOVERED THE HEADLIGHT CONTROL IN THE FUSE PANEL TO BE OVER HEATING AND BEGINNING TO BURN A HOLE IN THE FUSE PANEL UNDER THE HOOD. GM SENT OUT A RECALL FOR THE BUICK LACROSSE 2005. THE RECALL WAS TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT CAUSED THE CAR TO SWITCH OFF AT RANDOM WHILE RUNNING CAUSING FOR POTENTIAL CRASH AND LACK OF AIRBAGS TO WORK AND OTHER POSSIBLE HAZARDS. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT WE TAKE ANY THINGS OFF OF THE KEY RING OTHER THAN THE KEY WHEN IN DRIVE. I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE OF MY CAR TURNING OFF ON ITS OWN PREVIOUS TO RECEIVING THIS RECALL. BEING PROACTIVE I TOOK MY CAR TO THE WILKINS GMC BUICK DEALERSHIP LOCATED AT 6913 RITCHIE HIGHWAY, GLEN BURNIE, MD 21061 IN ORDER TO HAVE THE RECALL SERVICED. WHILE HAVING THE RECALL FIXED I FOUND OUT FROM A SERVICE WORKER AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE RECALL FIX IS ONLY A CHANGE IN THE KEY. ONCE THE RECALL FIX WAS COMPLETED I LEFT AND A WEEK LATER HAD THE ISSUE OF THE CAR TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING OCCUR. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE KEY TO ENSURE THE FIX WAS PROPERLY DONE, THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS PROPERLY DONE AND NO NEED TO COME IN. I THEN CALLED GM CORPORATE AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO RECALL ON THE IGNITION PART (THE REAL PROBLEM) AND THE KEY SHOULD HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE. I WAS GIVEN NO ASSISTANCE FOR THE TRUE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE LACK OF QUALITY AND QUALITY ASSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY. MY CAR HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AND NOW WILL BARELY STAY ON WITHOUT THE KEY TURNING TO THE OFF POSITION. SOMETIMES IT AFFECTS ONLY DIFFERENT PARTS OF THOSE LISTED ABOVE. THE ISSUE IS WE HAVE HAD IT INTO A REPAIR SHOP AT LEAST TWICE FOR IT AND THEY HAVE REPLACE SOME PARTS THEY THOUGHT COULD CAUSE IT, BUT IT HASN'T STOPPED IT FROM HAPPENING. IT IS ONLY NOTICEABLE IN THE EVENINGS WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE NEEDED BUT IT HAPPENS AT ANY TIME BUT WHEN YOU WANT TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED INTO THE VEHICLE WHILE WE WERE DRIVING WITH WHAT APPEARED TO BE AN 8 INCH HOLE IN THE MIDDLE. WE BOUGHT THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AGO USED WITH A 30 DAY WARRANTY FROM STEVE JONES HONDA IN ABERDEEN NC. WE HAVEN'T EVEN MADE THE FIRST PAYMENT AND WE STILL HAVE A TEMPORARY TAG ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY WITH THE VEHICLE REPAIR AND NOW WE HAVE SPENT OVER $300 ON A NEW REAR WINDOW FOR OUR NEW CAR. THE WIRES IN THE DEFROSTER WERE OBSERVED TO BE A DIFFERENT COLOR IN THE CENTER OF THE WINDOW - DARK ORANGE / RED. THIS INCIDENT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AND APPEARED TO SIMPLY BE A RESULT OF A MALFUNCTIONING REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER. WE HAD THE SHOP NOT HOOK UP THE DEFROSTER TO THE NEW WINDOW TO AVOID ANOTHER OF THESE INCIDENTS. WE COULD FIND NO RECALL INFORMATION FOR THIS ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. TO REPAIR THE CAR THEY: 1.REPLACED CAT CONVERTER AND OXYGEN SENSOR 125CGMPP- $750.47 A SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 57 DURING DAYTIME HOURS. I WAS PASSING A SEMI TRACTOR TRAILER WITH THREE CARS FOLLOWING ME WHILE CRUISING AT 73 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND LOST ALL POWER PUTTING ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. 2005 BUICK LACROSSE WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKES UNDER RECALL. CUSTOMER STATED THAT HER VEHICLE HAD DEFECTIVE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WAS PRESSED THE BRAKES WOULD NOT BE APPLIED. ALSO, THE VEHICLE HAD AN OIL LEAK. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE LEAK WAS FROM THE OIL FILTER AND CORRECTED IT. AFTER A FEW MILES DRIVEN, THE VEHICLE PRESENTED PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL PUMP AND THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE IT. ALSO, AN EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM WAS NOTICED WHICH WAS DETECTED DUE TO WIRING CORROSION LOCATED IN THE TRUNK. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED; THE DEALERSHIP CORRECTED THE DEFECT BUT AFTER FEW MILES, THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO PROVIDED THE NHTSA PHONE NUMBER WHEN ASKED FOR A RESOLUTION.
