The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact was informed of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V038000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the recall remedy could not be performed because the transmission and axle had failed and required repair and replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown.
I am filing a complaint against Wagner Cadillac in Tyler, Texas, regarding mishandled recall service that resulted in severe damage to my 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport (3.6 Twin-Turbo). Timeline of Events: Wagner Cadillac performed Recall #N192279370 (rear differential). At the time, only the differential code was present. Their own multipoint inspection showed no issues with the cooling or transmission systems. Immediately after recall service, my rear axle warning light came on for the first time. Shortly after, the transmission cooler line at the radiator burst, causing coolant and transmission fluid to mix. This led to overheating, hard shifting, and slipping. To limp the car home safely, I used a stop-leak additive only after the breakdown. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act clearly states warranty coverage cannot be denied unless the additive directly caused the failure, which it did not. The damage had already occurred from the ruptured line. When I returned the vehicle, Wagner Cadillac falsely accused me of voiding coverage due to the additive. They then refused to repair my transmission or cooling system, leaving me with a $30,000+ estimate. Why They Are Responsible: The problems began only after recall work. During service, Wagner Cadillac could have: Over-pressurized the system during testing. Improperly disturbed or reinstalled transmission cooler lines. Failed to secure or bleed the cooling system. Any of these actions could have caused the rupture. Their refusal to acknowledge this shifts unlawful blame onto me. Additional Concerns: Instead of helping me, Wagner Cadillac attempted to solicit me to sell them my broken car and buy another vehicle from them — both before and after they denied repairs. This is unethical and exploitative. Impact: I paid cash for this car not long ago. I have now lost reliable transportation, lost my job due to lack of mobility, and face financial INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
own a 2014 Cadillac CTS (VIN: [XXX] ) that was serviced under GM Recall N192279370 for rear axle differential seizing. On [XXX], the dealership replaced the rear differential carrier assembly and performed the required hydraulic system bleed. At intake, their own multi-point inspection documented no issues with the transmission, radiator, or cooling system. Immediately after the recall repair, my vehicle experienced severe issues: transmission slipping and radiator contamination with transmission fluid. These problems did not exist prior to the recall service. The dealership now claims the damage resulted from “stop leak” in the system and refuses warranty coverage. However, stop leak was not used until after the failure occurred, and only as an emergency measure to get the car home safely. The evidence strongly indicates that the failure resulted from the recall service, possibly from improper reconnection or contamination during the repair. Their refusal to acknowledge responsibility leaves me with significant repair costs for a problem that began directly after their mandated safety recall work. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in investigating this case, as the failure appears to be linked to the recall repair and raises concerns of improper procedures during service. Documentation, including service invoices, inspection sheets, and repair notes, are available to support this complaint. The gear shifter cable on my 2014 Cadillac CTS failed completely and without warning. The vehicle became totally inoperable and could not be shifted into Park, Neutral, Reverse, or Drive. There were no dashboard alerts or signs of failure. This matches the exact symptoms described in GM Recall No. 21V473000. However, my vehicle was excluded from further action because it had previously received a visual-only inspection during the recall window. No functional testing was performed. Despite being marked as “repaired,” the shifter cable failed exactly as described in the original recall. GM confirmed that the recall case was closed after a visual inspection per their protocol. But this inspection clearly failed to detect a dangerous mechanical defect. I have now been without a working vehicle for over two weeks, with the earliest dealership appointment not available until the week of July 7 — and a $180 diagnostic fee quoted, with no guarantee of repair coverage. This breakdown could have resulted in a crash or rollaway if it had occurred while driving or parked on an incline. It poses a serious safety risk not just to me but to the public. Vehicles cleared with insufficient inspection should not be excluded from protection. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this failure, hold GM accountable for prematurely closed recall cases, and consider requiring them to reopen and expand the campaign to include VINs like mine. I am willing to provide photos, documentation, and records as needed. Thank you for your attention and swift consideration.

I just recently purchased my Cadillac. And the rear end is going out! I literally cannot even drive it anywhere because it is about to lock up completely. It will barely go and definitely doesn't want or like to go uphill. I could hardly go 20 miles per hour when I parked it the other night. There has not been an incident yet but if I hadn't parked it, it could've locked up completely when I was going down the highway is what my mechanic friend told me. It was not bad until just the day before it got to this point. It was making a little bit of a humming noise which I thought was just a wheel bearing the other night because that's exactly what it sounded like. But, the night I parked it it had started making like a loud thumping noise when I would try to accelerate. The more I would accelerate the louder the noise and it just didn't want to go. So, I parked it and that's where it's been since. So, I got online to look and see if there were any recalls for this issue. I find that there is a recall for the 2014 Cts-V for the rear end. I think it's not only the Cts-V models I think it's the regular Cts's as well. Can you check into this for me because I literally just bought this car and haven't even gotten my license plate yet and now I can't even do that or go anywhere for that matter. I am a business owner and I rely on my vehicle and I can't even get to work to open my store right now,. I would greatly appreciate it if you could check into if this recall shouldn't be extended to the regular Cts models as well. Thanks and have a great day.
My car was unsafe to drive. It would not shift into drive. I had it towed to a mechanic who diagnosed the problem. I was informed the differential was the problem. I could not drive my car until the repair was done. No one had the differential part in the USA. My car is 2014 CTS with only 66,000 miles. Can I be reimbursed for this repair?
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the rear differential needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was a grinding sound coming from rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local service center who discovered metal shavings inside in the rear differential fluid and informed the contact that the rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 84,000.

The gears inside the rear-differential of a 2014 CTS Luxury 3.6 liter Cadillac, with 48,000 miles, failed to the point where the whole differential had to be replaced. This defect is extremely dangerous to the owner of the vehicle, as well as others on the road. If the differential fails to the point where the tires lock up, the driver can lose control of the car. There were no warning messages relating to the problem and the problem did not come on gradually. There was a sudden loud grinding noise that came from the rear of the car, while driving, and the car was immediately taken to a Cadillac dealership for inspection. The dealership mechanic/technician determined that the rear differential completely failed and needed to be replaced. (The oil was drained from the differential and there were metal shavings inside the oil.) Upon research on the internet, it was determined that this rear-differential defect is an extensive problem, as other 2014 Cadillac CTS owners are experiencing a similar problem. Cadillac has recalled the 2014 CTS-V for this rear differential defect but has not acknowledged the same problem with the 2014 CTS 3.6 liter (it appears to be the same product/part design.)
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, he heard a loud abnormal scraping sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the rear axle differential assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V038000 (Power Train) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 94,000.

At the moment, the vehicle is releasing a strong order smells like burning oil or gasoline. It’s coming from the rear of the vehicle. You can smell it immediately when you step out and in the car. The rear is making a loud cranking noise and starting to shake. It appears based on the information that it’s a huge possibility it’s my rear differential going out. It posses a threat due to the anticipation of the brakes locking and causing a serious accident to my family or other on the road. Ive taken very good care if the vehicle and done all the required maintenance on the vehicle. Went though GM motors repair shops

The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormally loud grinding sound was coming from the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed of a fault with the rear differential. The mechanic referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. Once at the dealer, it was confirmed that the rear differential had experienced internal grinding and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

2014 CTS 3.6 Differential was replaced in 2019 under manufactures warranty. Les than 50k miles later the differential has gone out again. The dealer will not honor the previous install and wants to charge me close to $6k to fix. This is a known problem with every model because they all have the same differential. GM will only honor the turbo version of the 2014 CTS with the same defective rear end. This can be very dangerous if the rear end locks while driving at any speed. GM is putting my family and others on the road by ignoring a known issue. I am calling out Putnam Cadillac in Berlingame Ca. taking a blind eye to a known issue.
Rear differential has gone bad. Hundreds, if not thousands of these vehicles have had this issue. Nothing is being done! It’s a shame that us CTS owners are stuck with these problems.
The rear differential is making a howling noise. The CTS V sport was recalled but not the regular CTS. Many other customers have made compliant on different websites. I am hoping to have the recall done so I don’t have to spend money on the car. It will be an expensive fix.
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated while driving at approximately 50 MPH, a loud grinding sound came from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear tires needed to be replaced. The contact had both rear tires replaced; however, the loud grinding noise recurred and was also heard a sound when starting the vehicle, shifting into drive(D) and slowly accelerating. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer who determined that the rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

Rear Differential is failing, making a loud grinding, howling, screeching sound. Cadillac has already recalled rear diff on same year CTS-V (some models), but not for this or other CTS models, but finding replacement parts is almost impossible because a LOT of people are having the exact same failure.
Differential is going bad and it’s only got 60k miles on it and if the wheels lock up that is bad. And I can’t find the part nowhere.
2014 CTS with 53,000 miles. Loud whining noise started in rear of vehicle. Went to the shop and was told that the rear differential is bad. Technician stated that this is a known widespread problem with this model Cadillac. He also stated that there are no parts available and has 9 other customers waiting for the manufacturer to supply the part. He is being told by GM that it could be up to 6 months wait for the parts. Why is there not a recall. I hope that nobody gets seriously injured due to the faulty parts!
The rear differential failing at very low mileage on the 2014 and others models and years using the same part is a very common issue. The CTSV model was recalled and not the cts models. Even though it’s the same part but just one single different number in the part number. This is very offsetting being that it’s a costly part and requires costly replacement. It almost always can never be repaired but only replaced. Cadillac has recognized that it’s an issue but only recalled the CTS vsport models. Even though it’s the same exact part. My car isn’t able the be driven due to this due to high demand of the part making it very difficult to find. The part number is 84110751.
I have 75,000 miles on a 2014 Cadillac and the rear differential is bad, they have recalled this same differential on the same year of vehicle but only if it was in the turbo model. What's the difference? same part, same thing is wrong.
Rear Carrier Assembly is making grinding noise. Mechanic says that driving car could be life threatening. GM and Cadillac dealership has no parts. So car is useless. The car has 56,000 miles. There should be a recall and remedy for this Model, 2014 Cadillac 3.6L CTS. Especially when the V version of this car already has a recall. GM should be held accountable for this design flaw.
General Motor's design oversights irreversibly damaged the rear differential carrier of my 2014 Cadillac CTS4 around 75,000 to 80,000 miles. Unfortunately, there is no prior indication of the rear differential carrier assembly leaking fluid or damaging the bearing. Only after the problem occurs, the rear differential assembly starts to make a whining sound that can be heard in the cabin of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the whining sound is a clear indicator that the rear differential assembly is damaged irreversibly. The lack of differential fluid in rear differential carrier assembly can lead to a catastrophic failures. The complete failure of the rear differential assembly would result in internal gears seizing up and locking of the rear wheels. Likewise, there is no prior indicators of when the rear wheels will seize up. On highways speeds, this problem can create dangerous and even life threating conditions to the occupants of the vehicle as well as the other motorists sharing the road.
• Rear Differential is malfunctioning and is making a loud roaring, grinding noise. Is available for inspection. • Safety concern is no warning lamps notify you of malfunction and if differential goes out while driving wheels can lock up and increase the chance of a crash, And is a danger to passengers as well. • Called Dealer and was told part was discontinued probably because they know it is a bad part. Was told to rebuild or find a used part from junkyard. 2 independent service centers confirmed differential is malfunctioning. • No warning lamps to notify you , loud roaring, grinding noise can be heard .

Differential are bad in these cars with only 60,000 miles and and if it goes out, car could lock up causing an accident. Recall has been issued but not for all vehicles. Which there are a lot more vehicles with the issue than that have an recall put in them. 2014 Cadillac CTS RWD 3.6L like mine should be recalled immediately.
I notice the differential was leaking and had to repair it but I am not certain if this will happen again

I started to notice pulsation upon braking and replaced my pads and rotors, at the same time switching from winter wheels to summer wheels. The pulsation continued, and then I noticed a rumbling sound from the rear end that has grown increasingly loud over the past three days, and now it is accompanied by wobbling upon braking at speed. An independent shop today diagnosed it as a rapidly failing rear differential. The car has 70,000 miles and no accidents. As I understand it, the CTS-V version of the same vehicle has a recall for failing differentials that are the very same part that's used in these non-V models. The web is full of complaints from other owners of my model who are experiencing this same issue. It is a catastrophic failure part that could cause the rear end of the car to lock up at speed. Please address ASAP, thank you!
I have been told my car needs a front and rear differential. I have heard a low rumbling in the car for some time which I have now been told that sound was the differential breaking down. My car has been at dealership for 2 months now

2014 Cadillac CTS rear differential with 55,000 miles started to make a wobbling noise going past 10 mph. Went to third party mechanic and was shown metal shavings coming from rear end
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and depressing the accelerator pedal, a metal noise was heard. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the rear brakes were replaced however, the contact was informed that the failure was the rear differential axle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to have the failure diagnosed at a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer nor was a case opened. The contact was referencing the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V038000 (Power Train). The manufacturer informed the contact that only the sports version was included in the recall due to the plant of manufacture. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

Rear differential failure at low mileage
Rear differential lock up at high speed. Loss of control. Apparently a common problem with Cadillac rear differentials. Most occur under 50,000 miles. Mine had 54,000 miles. Seals fail and differential fluid drains out. Some people have had 3 replacements under warrantee. Cannot find and replacements as they are "back ordered" according to dealerships.
During a service appointment, on my 2014 Cadillac CTS, the dealership pointed out that both axle seals on the differential appears to be leaking. On a subsequent inspection conducted on 8/24/2021, by the dealership, it was confirmed that both axle seals were leaking. At the time of the inspection the vehicle had 120,873 miles showing on the odometer. These two reports were the initial indication that the axle seal were leaking. The dealership has maintained the vehicle since I purchased it from them. I checked to see was if there was a Service Bulletin on this issue, but there was none. However, there was a Service Bulletin (Bulletin No. PIP5075A) concerning "Rear Axle Leak From The Vent" on the differential on the 2011-2013 Cadillac CTS and CTS-V. I contend that GM over compensated for the vent leak and now the vent on the differential of the 2014 Cadillac CTS does not release the built up air pressure which is causing the seals to leak. It is only a matter of time when the differential will lock up due to lack of lubricant and cause a serious accident. I contacted GM on this issue, but they do not want to admit there is a problem. However, if you look up complaints on the internet, there are many many people with this issue on Cadillac's CTS and ATS. There needs to be at a minimum a Service Bulletin issued. I would recommend a recall to correct this problem.

I brought my car to my trusted local mechanic, and he informed me that the noise I was hearing from the rear of my car was the differential. He also informed me that it was dangerous because it could lock up, causing my car to go into a skid and lose control. I did some due diligence on the internet and discovered it’s a common problem, and although it has been recalled on the sub model of the V sport, the standard CTS has not been recalled.

STARTING AROUND THE END OF FEBRUARY, MY 2014 CTS 3.6 AWD STARTED TO HAVE NOISE FROM THE REAR END WHILE DRIVING. THE NOISE BECOMES LOUDER IF I DRIVE FASTER AND THE CAR WOBBLES. I FEEL EXTREME UNSAFE AND HAVE VISITED INDIVIDUAL MECHANICS, AND MECHANICS TOLD ME THE ISSUE IS FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THEY SAID THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS, AND CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THROUGH MY RESEARCH, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE COMMON AMONG THE CTS MODEL. HOWEVER, WHILE THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE CTS VSPORT, NO ACTIONS ARE TAKEN FOR OTHER VERSIONS OF CTS. FROM NHTSA COMPLAINT SITE, SEVERAL COMPLIANT CASES HAVE BEEN FILED FOR THE NON-SPORT CTS. THERE ARE OTHER CASES MENTIONED ACROSS THE INTERNET: HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/UCMIMOHFEPQ . THIS PROBLEM SOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY TO AVOID SAFETY RISKS. I BELIEVE THIS REAR DIFFERENTIAL ISSUE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO 1.GET REPLACEMENT PART AND SERVICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO FIX THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ISSUE ON MY CAR AND GET REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL COSTS 2.URGE THE MANUFACTURER TO PUT THE CTS MAKE ONTO THE RECALL LIST FOR SAFETY OF OTHER CTS OWNERS.

AS EXPENSIVE AND RARE AS THIS PART IS, IT SHOULD NOT BE FAILING OR LEAKING SO SOON, AS IT IS THE MAIN PART THAT MOVES THE WHEELS IN A RWD CAR. I DID NOT BELIEVE IT AT FIRST BUT AFTER MY PURCHASE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WENT BAD AT ONLY 75K MILES. I REPLACED IT, WITH A USED REAR DIFF THAT HAD ONLY 50K MILES, 10K MILES LATER, IT STARTS LEAKING AND GOING BAD AGAIN. EVEN USED ONES ARE A WHOPPING $1K AND UP. THIS PART SHOULD DEFINITELY BE INVESTIGATED AT ALL DEALERSHIPS NATIONWIDE, I ASSURE YOU THAT THERE IS AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF RECORDS OF THIS PART GOING BAD TO SOON.
Mileage: 75,000
BOUGHT THIS CAR AND AFTER BUYING IT, I HEARD A VIBRATION. FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ROAD AND THEN THOUGHT IT WAS THE TIRES. I STARTED CHECKING AROUND FOR TIRES WHEN IT BECAME VERY NOISY SO I CALLED THE DEALER. HE FIRST SAID IT WAS THE POWER TRAIN FLUID NEEDED CHANGED BUT LATER CALLED AND SAID IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THIS CAR HAS LESS THA 40,000 MILES.

ON OCTOBER 27TH, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SHOP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS GOING OUT AND THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE COMPARTMENT. THE SALES REP, NICK, SAID THERE WAS NOT A RECALL AND THE REPAIR WOULD BE $3300. THROUGH MY RESEARCH THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR "DEFECTIVE ROLLING PINS IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL THAT WERE FATIGUING AND FRACTURING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSING THE REAR END TO LOCK UP" BUT ONLY FOR THE 2014 CADILLAC CTS-V NOT THE REGULAR CTS. SINCE THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, I HAD TO RENT A CAR ON 11/11 TO GET TO AND FROM WORK. AFTER CONVERSATIONS NOT RECEIVING ANY COOPERATION FROM CADILLAC CORPORATION, I WAS REFERRED TO GM CORPORATION. THEY NEGOTIATED A DISCOUNT, REDUCING THE COST FOR REPAIR FROM $3300 TO $1400. THE REPAIR WAS NOT COMPLETED UNTIL 12/1. THEY REDUCED THE PRICE BY ANOTHER $500 THE DAY I PICKED UP MY CAR. SO, I PAID $900 FOR THE REPAIR AND $517.17 FOR THE CAR RENTAL (TOTAL $1,417.17). ALTHOUGH THEY SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED THE COST OF THE REPAIR, I STILL BELIEVE THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND AN EXPENSE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED IN THE RECALL. THE REAR DIFFERENTIALS IN A CADILLAC CTS-V AND CTS ARE THE SAME. THE CTS-V HAS A STRONGER ENGINE, MEANING MORE TORQUE, WHICH MEANS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IN THE NORMAL CTS SHOULD LAST EVEN LONGER. MY 2014 CADILLAC ONLY HAD 70,000 MILES; THEREFORE, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE OUT SO SOON. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR ALL COSTS AND SEE THIS ITEM PUT ON THE RECALL LIST FOR THE SAFETY AND BENEFIT OF OTHER CTS OWNERS.

THIS COMPLAINT IS REGARDING AN ACTIVE RECALL ON MY CADILLAC...MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBERN192279370 AND NHTSA RECALL NUMBER20V038. I WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL AND IN MAY 2020 THAT THE PARTS TO FIX THE CAR WERE NOW AVAILABLE. I WENT TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE REPAIR AND THE PARTS WERE NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND WERE ON BACK ORDER. AS OF THIS DATE THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS RECALL COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SERIOUS ISSUE, BUT GM SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON FIXING THE PROBLEM! IT WILL SOON BE 5 MONTHS SINCE I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PARTS SUPPOSEDLY BEING AVAILABLE BUT MY CAR IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. IT SEEMS A BIT UNREASONABLE TO ME FOR THIS TO BE TAKING SOOOO LONG TO FIX A SERIOUS FLAW IN THE DIFFERENTIAL. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO SPEED THIS PROCESS UP? THANK YOU FOR ANY ASSISTANCE THAT YOU CAN OFFER.

TWO MONTHS LATER HE CALLED COULTER CADILLAC TEMPE (7780 S AUTOPLEX LOOP BUILDING 200, TEMPE, AZ 85284) WHERE HE WAS AGAIN INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THEY ALSO INFORMED HIM THAT HE HAD TO WAIT A FEW MONTHS FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THERE IS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE, PERTAINING TO THE REAR-AXLE DIFFERENTIAL, GM RECALL N192279370. I WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL DURING THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2020. I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE MID-MAY 2020. ON JUNE 29TH 2020, I CONTACTED MY LOCAL CADILLAC DEALER, HARVEY CADILLAC OF GRAND RAPIDS, TO REQUEST THE NECESSARY PARTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO GIVE ANY TIMELINE ON PARTS AVAILABILITY OR TIMELINE ON REPAIRS. I WAS UNABLE TO GET A LOANER OR RENTAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH HARVEY CADILLAC AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT CADILLAC CUSTOMER CARE FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE. I MADE CONTACT INITIALLY ON JULY 7TH 2020 AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER AND RECEIVED A BOILERPLATE RESPONSE ABOUT LACK OF PARTS VIA VOICEMAIL. IN DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED TO THE NHTSA, GM STATED THAT COURTESY TRANSPORTATION MAY BE MADE AVAILABLE UNTIL REPAIRS WERE ABLE TO BE MADE, AND REFERENCED COMPANY MEMOS INDICATING HOW THIS WERE TO TAKE PLACE. FURTHER CONTACT TO CADILLAC CUSTOMER CARE REQUESTING THIS LOANER/RENTAL ASSISTANCE VIA MULTIPLE TELEPHONE CALLS, VOICEMAILS, AND SOCIAL MEDIA WENT UNANSWERED. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO MAKE CONTACT OR PROMPT ANY RESPONSE SINCE THAT INITIAL JULY 7TH DESPITE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. HARVEY CADILLAC ON AUGUST 17TH STATED NO PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE ON PARTS AVAILABILITY OR A TIME FRAME ON WHEN THE REPAIR COULD BE COMPLETED. TODAY'S DATE IS AUGUST 31ST, 2020, AND IT HAS BEEN NINE WEEKS SINCE I INITIALLY CALLED TO SCHEDULE REPAIRS FOR A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD PUT MY FAMILIES SAFETY AT RISK. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY DEALER AND CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVES THAT I SHOULD AVOID DRIVING THE VEHICLE IF POSSIBLE, AS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL COULD LOCK UP AND CAUSE A CRASH AT ANY TIME WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, BUT HAVE BEEN GIVEN NO SOLUTION OR ASSISTANCE AS TO HOW TO ACCOMPLISH SUCH A MEASURE. I HAVE NO ESTIMATED DATE WHEN THE REPAIRS COULD BE COMPLETED.
MY 2014 CADILLAC CTS VSPORT IS PART OF GM RECALL N192279370 (FAILURE OF ROLL PINS IN THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL). IN EARLY JULY, I BEGAN THE PROCESS TO HAVE THE REPAIR ACCOMPLISHED, BUT THE DEALER (BOB MOORE CADILLAC IN EDMOND, OKLAHOMA) TOLD ME THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THE RECALL. SIX WEEKS HAVE PASSED SINCE THAT INTIAL CONTACT AND THERE ARE APPARENTLY STILL NO PARTS IN STOCK AT ANY LEVEL. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL, WITH THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE FAILURE (LOCKING UP OF BOTH REAR WHEELS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS) BEING VERY SERIOUS. I IMPLORE THE NHTSA TO PRESSURE GM TO COME UP WITH THE NECESSARY ASSETS TO GET THIS ACCOMPLISHED ON ALL 2866 AFFECTED VEHICLES, OR PROVIDE EQUIVALENT TRANSPORTATION UNTIL SUCH TIME IT CAN BE DONE.
MY CAR IS PART OF RECALL #N192279370 WHICH WAS ISSUED ALMOST 8 MONTHS AGO. THE RECALL IS FOR AN ISSUE WITH THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WHICH CAN LOCK UP AND SEIZE WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR SYMPTOMS. GM HAS DEEMED THE CAR SAFE TO DRIVE DESPITE SAYING THIS IN THE RECALL NOTICE..."IF THE CONDITION OCCURS WHILE DRIVING, THE REAR WHEELS MAY LOCK UP. THIS MAY AFFECT THE DRIVER'S ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." FOR ALMOST 8 MONTHS NOW I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO BE SENT TO THE DEALER TO FIX THE CAR. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AND IT HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE PAST 8 MONTHS, WHICH HAS LEFT MY FAMILY SHORT A CAR. GM WILL NOT PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR AT THIS TIME, WHICH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF WHEN THE CAR IS ACTUALLY IN FOR SERVICE ONCE THE PARTS FINALLY ARRIVE. AT THIS TIME THERE IS STILL NO FIRM DATE ON WHEN THE NEW PARTS MIGHT ARRIVE AND I AM LEFT WITH A CAR THAT COULD HAVE THE REAR WHEELS COMPLETELY LOCK UP WITHOUT WARNING AT ANY TIME SHOULD I CHOOSE TO DRIVE IT. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE.

THE REAR END DIFFERENTIAL BROKE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY. WHICH MADE DRIVING THE CAR VERY UNSAFE. I PULLED OVER AND I GOT THE PART REPAIRED BY THE CADILLAC DEALERSHIP. I HAVE HAD AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT SEAT HEATER. WHEN WEATHER IS COOLER AND I ACTIVATE THE SEAT HEATER I EXPERIENCED THE SEAT GETTING EXCESSIVELY HOT AND I NEARLY BURN MYSELF. I HAD TO TURN OFF THE HEATER SEAT AND COVER THE SEAT SO I DON'T GET HURT. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE CAUSING ME TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY DURING TO HOW HOT THE SEAT HAD GOT. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE SHIFTER SELECTOR CABLE DETACHED AS I WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON THE STREET (VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION) I WAS DRIVING AND PULLED UP PARK AND NOTICE THE SHIFTER KNOB WAS MOVING BUT THE INDICATOR WAS STUCK IN THE WRONG SELECTION. I HAD TO PUT ON EMERGENCY BREAK AND ORDER A TOW TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT GEAR THE CARBWAS IN OR COULD I CHANGE GEARS. THE MANUFACTURER HAD RECALLS FOR THESE ITEMS ON SIMILAR VEHICLES BUT DENIED TO HELP ME BECAUSE THE RECALLS ARE VIN SPECIFIC WHICH I DID NOT KNOW AND MY VIN DIDN'T QUALIFY. I AM LEFT WITH A HUGE CAR REPAIR BILL FOR DEFECTED PARTS SOLD WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR. *TR

MY CAR IS A 2014 CTS VSPORT. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE AUGUST OF 2017, AND IT HAD 42,563 MILES WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD 'TIRE ISSUES' WITH THE CAR SINCE DAY 1. THE 1ST WEEK I OWNED THE VEHICLE, THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED, ALTHOUGH THEY HAD JUST BEEN REPLACED PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE, THE CAR WAS MAKING VERY LOUD NOISE WHILE DRIVING AND IT WAS DETERMINED THEY HAD 'UNEVEN WEAR.' ALONG WITH THIS, THE 'REAR AXLE SYSTEM OFF' LIGHT WOULD OCCASIONALLY COME ON. NOTHING THE DEALER COULD FIND WITH IT AND IT ALWAYS SEEMED THE LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF WHEN IT WAS AT DEALERSHIP. NOW 2 ADDITIONAL SETS OF TIRES, AND THE 'REAR AXLE SYSTEM OFF' LIGHT NOT TURNING OFF, I WAS TOLD REAR AXLE 'PIECES' NEED TO BE REPLACED TO INCLUDE THE REAR AXLE PINS AND PUMP, COSTING 2700.00. ALONG WITH THIS REPAIR THE CAR WILL NEED TO HAVE TIRES REALIGNED DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR AND REAR BRAKES. THE DEALER STATED THEY CANNOT REPLACE THE REAR AXLE UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE THE RECALL IS 'INCOMPLETE WITH NO SOLUTION.' IN ADDITION, THEY TOLD ME MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO RISK OF THE REAR TIRES LOCKING UP WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
I AM WRITING THIS BECAUSE I HAVE A COMPLAINT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED THAT THIS CAR HAS A RECALL WITH THE DIFFERENTIAL. NOT FROM THE DEALER NOR GM. I HAVE READ THAT CARS HAVE LOCKED UP AT HIGH SPEED RESULTING IN NEAR CRASHES.I AM ALSO READING THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS YET. THERE ARE CARS SITTING AT CADILLAC DEALERS FOR MONTHS WITH NOTHING DONE YET. THIS CONCERNS ME THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ME AND MY CAR. THE REAL PROBLEM IS I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED AND I BOUGHT THIS CAR AS A CPO FROM VALENTI CADILLAC IN HARTFORD CT. IF I HADN'T LOOKED AROUND I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN THIS CAR HAS A REAR DIFFERENTIAL RECALL THAT IS DANGEROUS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CADILLAC CTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT 60 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST AND HEADED HEAD ON TO THE OPPOSITE OF THE HIGHWAY TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED BUT THE REAR TIRES SEIZED, AS A RESULT THE REAR OF VEHICLE SKID AND SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE BURNING TIRES. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INCOMING AND OUTGOING HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND POLICE OFFICERS REMAINED ON THE SCENE DIRECTING TRAFFIC AROUND THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO AVOID A COLLISON IN THE MEANTIME THE TOWING COMPANY ARRIVED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RON CARTER CADILLAC (18101 GULF FREEWAY BUILDING B, FRIENDSWOOD, TX 77546 PHONE (832)-369-8228). THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS FAULTY AND CAUSED THE REAR TIRES TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS PENDING TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.

THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IN MY VEHICLE HAD TO BE REPLACED. TWO OF THE MAIN BEARINGS FAILED. WE NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE BACK AS WE DROVE. IN AUGUST OF 2019, I TOOK IT TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC AND HE RODE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. HE HEARD AND FELT THE GRINDING. HE RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT TO A REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION MECHANIC. I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO BAY AREA TRANSMISSIONS. MY VEHICLE WAS ON THE BRINK OF A CATASTOPHIC FAILURE ACCORDING TO THE TRANSMISSION MECHANIC. HE TOOK ME FOR THE TEST DRIVE AND UPON RETURN, IMMEDIATELY PUT IT UP ON THE RACK. REMOVED THE PLUG AND SHOWED ME THE BLACK FLUID AND METAL SHAVINGS ON THE PLUG. HE SAID THAT THE PINNION AND RAR BEARINGS WERE SHOT AND THAT THE WHOLE UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE PARTS FOR THIS ARE NON-EXISTANT. HE FOUND A REFURBISHED UNIT AND REPLACED IT AT THE COST OF $1800.00. I HAD CALLED OUR LOCAL CADILLAC DEALER SERVICE DEPT. THEY QUOTED ME A NEW ONE FOR $2600.00 BUT, DIDN'T HAVE ONE IN STOCK AND COULDN'T TELL ME WHEN OR IF THEY COULD GET ONE. THE CARS DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED AS WE HAD 90000 MILES ON OUR VEHICLE. WE PURCHASED IT IN OCTOBER 2018 WITH 68000 MILES ON IT. WE STARTED NOTICING A NOISE FROM THE REAR BACK IN JUNE OF 2019. THERE WERE APPROX. 80000 MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME. I WROTE CADILLAC A LETTER AND SENT THEM A COPY OF THE BILL ASKING FOR HELP ON THIS AS I FELT THAT THIS FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAPPEN WITH A WELL MAINTAINED, LUXURY VEHICLE SUCH AS CADILLAC. THEY RETURNED A CALL TO ME SAYING THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THAT THEY COULD DO. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND LOSS OF LIFE. THEY DON'T SEEM TO CONCERNED. I INFORMED THEM THAT I WAS GOING TO CONTACT THE NHTSA. I'M WRITING BECAUSE I'VE READ THAT THIS TYPE OF FAILURE HAPPENS IN THESE VEHICLES MORE OFTEN THAN GM WOULD LIKE TO ADMIT.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A 4 LANE ROAD GOING 45 MPH - WHEN WITHOUT WARNING A LOUD BANG CAME FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR AND THE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND I WENT INTO AN UNCONTROLLED SPIN FOR ~ 75 YARDS GOING SIDEWAYS DOWN THE ROAD AT 45...AND THEN CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC - THE ROADS WERE WET AS WELL...I FORTUNATELY DID NOT SPIN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I AVOIDED TRAFFIC BEHIND ME - I WAS DRIVING WITH 2 PASSENGERS WHO HOPPED OUT OF THE CAR TO WARN DRIVERS APPROACHING WE WERE DISABLED IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL - I TURNED IT OFF AND ON AND THEN PUT IT INTO N TO SEE IF WE COULD PUSH IT TO SAFETY. I TRIED ONE LAST TIME TO PUT IT INTO GEAR AND IT WENT INTO REVERSE SO I BACKED IT INTO SAFETY - I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED - AND AM VERY LUCKY - SO, I RESEARCH THIS AND FIND OUT THAT CADIALLIC KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM ON THEIR CTS - ESPECIALLY ON THE CTS V SPORT - SEE THE ATTACHED LINK I HAVE PROVIDED. HTTP://WWW.CARPROBLEMZOO.COM/CADILLAC/CTS/DIFFERENTIAL-UNIT-PROBLEMS.PHP SO, THE CAR IS 'SUPPOSEDLY' BEING REPAIRED AT CADIALLAC DEALER - BUT HOW CAN I EVER TRUST THIS CAR AGAIN? I WON'T PUT MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT AND THE PASSENGERS WHO WERE WITH CERTAINLY DON'T TRUST THE CAR...IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR IF I HAVE SWERVED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. NOW I HAVE A VEHICLE I CAN'T TRUST - THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND HAS ENGINEERING ISSUES AND CADILLAC / GM KNOW IT. I AM GOING TO GET REPAIR INVOICES AND OTHER DOCUMENTATION -

I WAS DRIVING A 2014 CADILLAC CTS ON 04/27/14, IN FREMONT, CA. VEHICLE CONFIGURATION: 2014 CTS 3.6L RWD PERFORMANCE. VIN, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE: 1G6AS5S39E0[XXX] THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 11AM. THE PLANNED TRAVEL ROUTE WAS AS FOLLOWS: FREMONT CADILLAC, 5939 AUTOMALL PKWY, FREMONT, CA ||| NW ON BOYCE ROAD ||| N ON STEVENSON BLVD ||| INTERSTATE-880S ||| EXIT AUTOMALL PKWY ||| FREMONT CADILLAC. I TRAVELED NORTH ON STEVENSON BLVD AND THEN HEADED FOR THE ONRAMP FOR INTERSTATE 880-SOUTH. WHEN I APPROACHED THE FREEWAY ONRAMP I NOTICED, ALL OF A SUDDEN, A DELAY BETWEEN PEDAL APPLICATION AND POWER. I DEMONSTRATED THIS TO MY PASSENGER TWICE OVER, BY GENTLY LETTING OFF THE GAS AND APPLYING IT AGAIN... AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, ACCOMPANIED WITH A LOSS OF TRACTION CONTROL AND STABILITY CONTROL, REDUCED ENGINE POWER, AND SHUDDERING DURING GEAR SHIFTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH AT THE TIME. ASIDE FROM THE AFOREMENTIONED ISSUES, NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE WERE OBSERVED. I ONLY TRAVELED TWO MILES BEFORE EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES. AS THIS WAS A BRAND NEW CAR ON A TEST DRIVE, IT OBVIOUSLY HAD VERY FEW MILES ON THE ODOMETER. UPON RETURNING TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP, THE SALES ASSOCIATES PULLED THE CAR BACK ONTO THE SALES LOT, MOVED OTHER NEW CARS OUT OF THE WAY, AND PARKED THE CAR AMONGST OTHER NEW VEHICLES FOR SALE. THE VEHICLE WAS MOST CERTAINLY NOT PULLED INTO THE SERVICE DRIVE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS IS UNSETTLING NEWS. I HAVE NO FAITH THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PROPERLY INSPECTED, NOR DO I HAVE FAITH THAT THE DEALERSHIP WILL RESPONSIBLY HANDLE THIS MATTER. IT IS MY RECOMMENDATION THAT GM WITHDRAWS THIS VEHICLE FROM DEALER INVENTORY AND PERFORMS AN INDEPENDENT ASSESSMENT OF THE VEHICLE. *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
