I OBSERVED A LIQUID PUDDLE ABOUT MIDWAY BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR DOORS, ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION I CONCLUDED THE LIQUID WAS GASOLINE. I FELT WHERE I THOUGHT THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM AND FELT TUBING. I FELT THE A TUBE LINE AND IT CRUMBLED IN MY HAND. UPON FURTHER VISUAL INSPECTION, I OBSERVED OTHER AREAS (ALONG THE DRIVERS DOOR) THAT WERE ALSO LEAKING GASOLINE. MUCH OF THE GAS LINE IS CRUMBLING PLASTIC, CAUSING GASOLINE TO LEAK UNDER THE CAR. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CADILLAC DEVILLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE WAS LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V110000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

I WENT TO START MY CAR (1995 CADILLAC CONCOURSE) AND BEFORE THE ENGINE TURNED-OVER, I HEARD A VERY LOUD POP, SIMILAR TO A BACK FIRE, EXCEPT THAT THIS NOISE CAME FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. I THEN, SIMULTANEOUSLY, NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER NEATH THE CLOSED HOOD. I JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR AND OPENED THE HOOD TO FIND THAT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. I RAN BACK INSIDE THE HOUSE TO GET WATER AND WET TOWELS TO TRY AND PUT OUT THE FIRE, WHICH, AFTER ABOUT 5 TO 6 MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE ENGINE HAD NEVER CAUGHT ON FIRE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. DAMAGED TO THE ENGINE FROM THE FIRE APPEARED TO BE SUBSTANTIAL IN TERMS OF WIRES, HOSES, VARIOUS PLASTIC COVERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ENGINE. BECAUSE I AM NOT A MECHANIC, I CAN'T SAY WHAT KIND OF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE OCCURRED DURING THE FIRE. AS A RESULT OF THIS FIRE, I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY VEHICLE SINCE 5/7/09. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE BEEN GETTING TO AND FROM WORK IS WITH THE GENEROSITY OF MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS ON 8 MAY 09, TO INFORM THEM OF THE FIRE, BUT, AS OF 6/13/09, GENERAL MOTORS HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH IT IS ONE OF THEIR VEHICLES THAT WAS UNDER A RECALL FOR POTENTIAL ENGINE FIRES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN INSPECTED IN 2004 AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V110000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS). I OWN A 95 CADILLAC THAT HAD LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON IT WHEN I GOT IT IN 95. IN 2000 THE FUEL PUMP SHORTED OUT IN THE FUEL TANK BURNING UP THE FUEL PUMP AND THE WIRING HARNESS GOING TO IT. I HAD THE CAR REPAIRED AT STUTZMAN CADILLAC IN WINCHESTER VA. IN NOVEMBER 2005 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I CALLED CADILLAC MAIN OFFICE AND TALKED TO TOLD THEM ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THE ONLY REPLY I GOT FROM THEM WAS THEY WERE SORRY THAT I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED THE CAR HAD 43000 MILES ON IT . IT NOW HAS 81000. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE OUGHT TO BE A FUSE OR SOMETHING TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING. *JB

CONSUMER DOES NOT FEEL SAFE WITH VEHICLE DUE TO UNEXPECTED POWER FAILURE. HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO SELL VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS HAD REPAIRS ON THE FOLLOWING: WATER PUMP, FUEL SYSTEM, AND IGNITION MODULE. NONE OF WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM). DEALER WANTED TO GIVE THE CONSUMER A $1000.00 OWNER LOYALTY CERTIFICATE WHICH COULD BE USED UPON THE TRADE OF A NEW VEHICLE. BUT THE CONSUMER FELT THAT WAS INADEQUATE AND TRADED THE VEHICLE IN ON HIS OWN TERMS AFTER HAVING NUMEROUS DIFFICULTIES W/VARIOUS DEALERSHIP REPRESENTATIVES(STATED IN LETTER). CONSUMER EXPECTS TO RECEIVE A REFUND OF THE MONIES HE HAD SPENT ON GETTING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. *SCC...*AK
IN-TANK FUEL PUMP UNIT MOTOR FAILURE CAUSED A HIGH-CURRENT DRAW. PRIOR TO FUSE BLOWING, IN-TANK WIRING BECAME HOT ENOUGH TO MELT THE WIRE INSULATION. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONDITION. HAD THE WIRE COME OFF THE TERMINAL AND CREATED A SPARK, THE RESULTING EXPLOSION COULD HAVE KILLED THE DRIVER AND ANY PASSENGERS.*JB
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT STALLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, VEHICLE WILL RESTART AND WILL STALL AGAIN USUALLY WITHIN ONE MILE, DEALER FINALLY DETECTED THE PROBLEM AS THE FUEL PUMP. *MJ
WHILE DRIVINMG 70 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT MOTOR OF FUEL PUMP GOT HOT AND MELTED WIRES, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL. DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP. THIS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE IN NOVEMBER, 1999. *AK
ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED 09/99 AT APPROXIMATELY 37,000 MILES. SECOND FUEL PUMP REPLACED 11/01 AT 48,343 MILES. BOTH FAILURES OCCURRED AFTER THE HOT WIRE INSIDE THE TANK AND ATTACHED TO THE FUEL PUMP MOTOR OVER HEATED, MELTED THE WIRING INSULATION AND SCORCHED THE ASSEMBLY HOUSING AND CONNECTORS. ON THE FIRST FAILURE THE WIRE BURNED COMPLETELY IN TO AND THE PUMP STOPPED SUDDENLY. THE PRESENT FAILURE BEGAN INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN FAILED PERMANENTLY. IT INITIALLY FAILED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY.*AK

CONSUMER WAS GETTING INTO VEHICLE AND STARTED SMELLING FUEL IN PASSENGER'S COMPARTMENT. CONSUMER WENT STRAIGHT TO A MECHANIC. FUEL HAS SPILLED ONTO ENGINE, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO START SMOKING AND CATCH A FIRE. MANUFACTURE IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT SMELL OR PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 40-45 MPH ENGINE STALLED. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER, WHO FOUND A FUES HAD BLOWN, CAUSING FUEL PUMP TO QUIT, THERE WERE BURNED WIRES LEADING TO FUEL PUMP. DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP.*AK
VEHICLE STALLED ON THREE OCCASIONS. VEHICLE TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT STALLING WAS DUE TO A SHORT IN FUEL PUMP. PUMP WOULD BE REPLACED WITH A HEAVIER WIRING HARNESS. *AK THE WIRES WERE FUSED TOGETHER IN GAS TANK AND THERE IS POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD AS THE RESULT. *YH
WIFE STARTS DRIVING HOME AND ENGINE STOPS RUNNING, PULLS OFF OF ROAD ,CAR WON'T START,SHE CALLS HER HUSBAND AND THINKS THE CAR IS OUT OF GAS. HE PUTS 2 GLS IN AND CAR WON'T START, ADDS ANOTHER 2GLS,CAR WON'T START, CALLS TOW TRUCK, TRUCK LIFTS FRONT OF CAR AND THERE IS A LARGE SPOT OF GAS ON THE GROUND, THINKING THERE IS A HOLE IN THE TANK ,CAR IS TOWED TO GARAGE, NEW TANK IS ORDERED, 4DAYS LATER WE FIND THE PROBLEM IS THE WIRING HARNESS BURNED AND MELTED, OUTSIDE OF FUEL PUMP BURNED AND MELTED,TOP PART OF FUEL TANK BURNED AND MELTED, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS HAZARD AND WARRANTS AN INVESTIGATION,CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS AND THEY IGNORE THE PROBLEM.
