ABOUT A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT MY 2004 CADILLAC SRX, IT STARTED JERKING AND MAKING A LOUD CLICKING OR POPPING SOUND, LATER FOUND OUT THAT A FEW SPROCKETS INSIDE THE TRANSFER CASE HAD BROKE OFF AND THE CHAIN? WAS SLIPPING. THIS WAS THE REAR, THE CARLOTS MECHANIC FIXED IT, THEN THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE THROTTLE BODY INTAKE HAD TO BE OPENED AND CLEANED BECAUSE IT WASNT OPENING LIKE IT IS DESIGNED TO DO, AND SO THE EXHAUST WAS GETTING TRAPPED IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. ONE SUMMER DAY IN TRAFFIC IT CUT OFF ALL POWER, WE ENDED UP GETTING IT STARTED AGAIN TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD, AND IT GOT US BACK HOME, THAT WAS A YEAR AGO AND IT HASNT RAN SINCE. ALSO IF YOU HAD TRACTION CONTROL TURNED ON, THE ABS WOULD APPLY THEMSELVES WHICH SOMETIMES FELT UNSAFE. ALWAYS GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN SAYING TO SERVICE THE STABLITRAX SYSTEM OR TO REPAIR THE TRACTION CONTROL AND THE TIRE THINGS THAT TELL YOU HOW MUCH AIR IS IN EACH TIRE, WE HAD 1 THAT DIDNT REGISTER AT ALL. THE SUNROOF SHADE WAS SHUT WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND IN TRAFFIC IT SPRUNG OPEN FAST AND LOUD AND IT WAS A SCARY SITE WHEN YOU HAVE CHILDREN IN THE BACKSEAT AND YOUR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS SEVERAL RECALLS ISSUED AND FIXED, SO MANY HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUES OVER AND OVER, SOME LIFE THREATENING AND NO ONE HAS DONE ANYTHING TO HELP THESE PEOPLE, IF LIKE ME LOW INCOME THEY DONT WANT TO GO THRU BUYING ANOTHER CAR THEY WANT THEIR CADILLAC SRX FIXED SO THEY CAN ACTUALLY GET USE OF WHAT THEY PAID FOR. THE CAR LOT TOLD ME TO USE UNLEADED GASOLINE BUT THE BOOK SAYS TO USE PREMIUM, CAN GM CLEAR THIS UP PLEASE!!

I MADE A FREE RIGHT HAND TURN INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STATIONARY POSITION BUT WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THERE WAS A LOUD THUNKING/RATCHETING SOUND FROM UNDER MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T MOVE. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY AN ANGRY DRIVER AND I WAS FURIOUSLY HONKED AT BY MULTIPLE PEOPLE. MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE NOISE IS FROM A FAILING TRANSFER CASE WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE BASED ON WEB RESEARCH.

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000.

I BOUGHT THE SRX USED IN SEPTEMBER AND SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD ONE ISSUE AFTER ANOTHER. IF I ACCELERATE TOO QUICKLY MY TRANSMISSION, (I THINK), HAS A VERY LOUD RATCHETING/POPPING SOUND. MY SERVICE SUSPENSION SYSTEM ERROR MSG COMES ON EVERY TIME I START MY VEHICLE. I HAVE READ THAT THIS COULD BE RELATED TO THE AIR COMPRESSOR NOT WORKING OR FAULTY SENSORS. MY SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM ERROR MSG ALSO COMES ON EVERY TIME I START MY VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO CAUSE THE TRACTION CONTROL FEATURE TO MESS UP, WHICH THEN ON OCCASION WHEN I PRESS MY BRAKES, EVEN SLIGHTLY, MY BRAKES LOCK UP AND I SKID FOR JUST A SECOND. MY POWER STEERING FLUID SEEMS TO CONTINUALLY LEAK OR THE PUMP IS BAD. I HAVE REFILLED MY RESOVOIR MANY TIMES AND I CONSTANTLY HAVE A VERY LOUD "WHINING" SOUND. MY POWER STEERING SYSTEM ALSO SEEMS TO GO OUT OCCASIONALLY AND MY VEHICLE IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN.

CRAWLED UNDER MY VEHICLE AGAIN WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME ONLY TO FIND NOTHING. AFTER A FEW WEEKS, AND WHILE LEAVING FROM A DEAD STOP UNDER LOAD, OR WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR WAS NOT PULLING PROPERLY CAUSING ME TO NEARLY BECOME REAR ENDED ON SEVERAL (FOUR) OCCASIONS THAT WEEK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE TRANSFER CASE, AND REPAIRED FOR $2000.00. THE SAME THING IS NOW HAPPENING ONCE AGAIN STARTING IN OCT OF 2014 AND AFTER DOING MY RESEARCH ON CADILLAC FORUMS, GM FORUMS, CADILLAC OWNERS.COM, CAR ID, CARS.COM, JUST ANSWER.CAR, AUTOFRENZY.NET, CARCOMPLAINTS.COM, NHTSA (POWERTRAIN/DRIVETRAIN PROBLEMS), AS WELL AS THIS FORUM SAFERCAR.GOV, I HAVE FOUND WELL OVER 647 COMPLAINTS FOR FAILURE OF THE TRANSFER CASE IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA ALONE. THERE WERE NEARLY 73,000 FIRST GEN SRX SOLD WITH AWD, AND FROM ALL OF THE OWNERS THAT I HAVE GATHERED AND FROM ALL THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THEY HAVE ALL HAD SOME PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM THAT IS SOLELY WITH THE SRX, ITS ALSO WITH THE CTS, AS WELL AS THE STS. THESE $47,000 TO $58,000.00 PLUS DOLLAR VEHICLES ARE A ROAD HAZARD NOT ONLY THEIR DRIVERS, BUT TO ALL THAT SHARE THE ROAD. THE SRX CASES NEED TO BE RECALLED AND (PERMANENTLY) REPAIRED OR REPLACED. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO CADILLAC AND I HAVE PAPERWORK THAT SAY I NEED A BEARING HUB ON THE LEFT TIRE THINKING THAT'S WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE REPAIRS DONE ON BOTH PASSENGER HUBS AND STILL THE NOISE IS THERE. I WENT TO SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS AND SOME SAY THE TRANSFER CASE OR THE CHAIN IS SLIPPING. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AT THE END OF FEBRUARY FROM A USED CAR LOT NOT KNOWING WHAT I WAS GETTING MYSELF INTO. I'M AFRAID TO HAVE MY KIDS IN THE TRUCK WITH ME BECAUSE WHEN I TAKE OFF FAST THE KNOCKING WILL START. I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND GO SLOW UNTIL THE TRUCK PICK UP THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SPEED TO STOP FROM HEARING THE KNOCKING NOISE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR AND THE BACK END OF THE CAR MADE A LOUD ENOUGH THUMP - I THOUGHT THE AXLE BROKE OFF. AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AWAY FROM THE INTERSECTION I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR FOR REMAINS - THERE WERE NONE. MY MOTHER COMMENTED ON THE NOISE, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO TELL HER. SHE ALSO HAS A CADI SRX, 2005. WHEN SHE RETURNED HOME SHE NOTICED THE SAME NOISE IN HER CADI. HER HUSBAND SAID IT WAS THE "REAR DIFFERENTIAL." SINCE THAT TIME THEIR CADI WAS LOST IN A FLOOD AND THEY PURCHASED ANOTHER CADI SRX, 2008. THIS CADI ALSO HAS THE THUMPING IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THE THUMPING CONTINUES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION ALL THE CADILLAC'S HAVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ISSUES AND THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME KIND OF ACTION AGAINST THIS ISSUE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. NOW, I AM HEARING A CLICKING NOISE AT SUDDEN ACCELERATION, TOOK TO CADILLAC DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS "SOMETHING" IN THE TRANSFER CASE AND THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLACE PARTS, THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THING AT A COST OF $3000.00! I DEFINITELY DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO REPAIR THIS ITEM. THIS HAS REALLY TURNED ME OFF. I PLAN TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE AND WOULD LOVE TO BUY AMERICAN, BUT WITH THIS LEVEL OF SERVICE AND LACK OF CARE FOR THE CUSTOMER, I AM GOING TO LOOK ELSEWHERE. DURING ROUTINE ACCELERATION THE CAR ACCELERATOR BECAME NON-FUNCTIONAL, ENGINE WENT TO IDLE, AND ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER MANUAL SHUT DOWN ENGINE RAN NORMALLY. PROBLEM WAS FAULTY CONTROL MODULE ON THROTTLE BODY. MECHANIC REPORTED THAT ON-BOARD COMPUTER AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS THE THROTTLE DOWN WHEN THIS TYPE PROBLEM IS SENSED TO AVOID DAMAGE TO ENGINE. COMPLAINT IS THAT IF THIS CONDITION OCCURRED WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY ENDANGERED. PROTECTION OF THE WELL-BEING OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PROTECTION OF THE ENGINE. 1.I WAS GETTING ON HIGHWAY TO GO TO DR. APPT STEPPED ON GAS PEDDLE AND HEARD LOUD PLASTIC BANGING COMING FROM REAR OF CAR. PULLED OVER THOUGHT MAYBE PICKED UP SOMETHING. LOOKED AROUND & UNDER CAR SAW NOTHING. GOT IN, STARTED TO PROCEED AGAIN, BANG BANG BANG AGAIN. OK FIGURED THAT IF U STEP ON GAS PEDDLE BARELY BANG WOULD STOP. GOT TO THE DR. GO TO LEAVE AGAIN BANG. 2. IT OCCURS EVERY TIME U STEP ON THROTTLE MORE THAN A LITTLE BIT. BROUGHT TO MY MECH THAT I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH FOR 22 YEARS. TOLD ME IT WAS REAR TRANSFER CASE. TOLD ME IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE WANTS TO COME OUT OF IT WITH A HAMMER. 3. HAD TO REPLACE REAR TRANSFER CASE. COST $2000. MECH. TOLD ME I AM GOING TO GET SICK WHEN U SEE IT. I GOT DOWN THERE WITH CAMERA. MAIN SHAFT HAS METAL TO METAL CONTACT THAT WORE DOWN WITH METAL SHAVINGS UNDER CAUSED WOBBLE IN SHAFT. ALSO EVERY LINK IN CHAIN HAD LITTLE BIT OF PLAY IN IT SO IT WOULD JUMP SPROCKET AND HIT PLASTIC PLATE. THAT'S WHERE PLASTIC BANG WAS COMING FROM. I DON'T HAVE PART BECAUSE MECH HAD TO SEND BACK FOR CORE BUT I DO HAVE PLENTY OF PICTURES TO SHOW OF HOW MUCH PLAY WAS IN CHAIN, METAL SHAVINGS UNDER SHAFT, MARKS ON SHAFT HOLE NINE YARDS. *TR

AT ABOUT 65-70K MILES THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL STARTED MAKING NOISE IN MY 2004 CADILLAC SRX. I TOOK IT TO THE MAJOR CADILLAC IN KANSAS CITY, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL. THE WHINE TURNED INTO A MECHANICAL CLUCKING SOUND WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. I RETURNED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A COMMON SOFTWARE UPDATED THAT NEED TO BE INSTALLED (AND CHARGED ME ABOUT $250). WHEN I PICKED IT UP, PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE. I ASKED FOR A REFUND OR FOR THEM TO ACTUALLY FIX THE ISSUE. I WAS TOLD TO RETURN WHEN MY SERVICE REP WAS IN. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER WAS SHUT DOWN BY GM. I UNDERSTAND SOME OF THESE DETAILS DON'T DIRECTLY TO THE ISSUE (WHICH I WILL FURTHER EXPLAIN), BUT SEEMS TO BE A SYMPTOM OF HOW THE GM DEALERS HANDLE ISSUES. TODAY I TOOK IT TO ONE OF TWO REMAINING GM SHOPS IN TOWN. THEY NEEDED TO PERFORM A $200 FLUID EXCHANGE ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL TO DETERMINE WHETHER IT WAS THE ISSUE. THEN CALLED ME BACK, SAYING THERE WAS NO 100K MILE WARRANTY ON THE CAR AND THE REPLACEMENT WOULD BE ABOUT $1300, ALONG WITH THE ADDITIONAL ITEMS THAT "SHOULD BE DONE" PUTTING THE TOTAL TO OVER $2500. ON A CAR THAT NOW HAS JUST OVER 70K MILES AND IS NOT QUITE FIVE YEARS OLD. HAD I NOT SEEN SO MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUES WITH THE MODEL, I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS A RARE OCCURRENCE. BUT GIVEN THE BEVY OF INDIVIDUALS WITH THE SAME THING HAPPENING, THIS WOULD SEEM TO BE A GLARING DESIGN DEFECT. I APPRECIATE THERE IS A PLACE TO COMPILE THESE COMPLAINTS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CADILLAC SRX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND FAILED TO OPERATE. THE DRIVER FELT THAT THIS WAS A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER RESIDENCE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FRONT END DIFFERENTIAL FAILED. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN INTO A PARKING LOT, THE STEERING COLUMN COMPLETELY LOCKED. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO MANUALLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL FOR TWENTY MINUTES THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATIONS ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY WHILE TURNING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE POWER STEERING HOSES WERE REVERSED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY MANUFACTURED. THE HOSES WERE SWITCHED, BUT THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE STEERING COLUMN CONTINUED TO LOCK INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION TO THE ONGOING STEERING COLUMN PROBLEM THE VEHICLE HAD SEVERAL OTHER PROBLEMS AS WELL. THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS EASILY RESTARTED AFTER A 30 MINUTE PERIOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE THROTTLE CONTROL HAD CAUSED THE GAS SUPPLY TO SHUT OFF TO THE ENGINE. THE THROTTLE WAS REPLACED AND THIS REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. LATER, THE TRANSMISSION MADE A NOISE AND THE REAR END FELT LOOSE WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THERE WERE LOOSE NUTS ON THE WHEEL. ALL LUG NUTS WERE TIGHTENED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE TIGHTENING OF THE NUTS APPEARED TO REMEDY BOTH THE TRANSMISSION NOISE AND THE LOOSE FEELING IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TRADED THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE DEALERS INABILITY TO REMEDY THE ONGOING STEERING PROBLEM. UPDATED 3/9/2006 - *NM

MY 2004 CAD. SRX SHOWED A LEFT REAR FLAT TIRE. I PULLED THE VEHICLE TO A LEVEL, ASPHALTED, SCENIC OVERLOOK AREA, 23 MILES FROM PAGE, AZ. I COULD NOT GET THE SHIFTER FROM DRIVE INTO PARK GEAR, NOR WOULD THE KEY TURN OR RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION. I GOT OUT TO CHECK AND CHANGE TIRE, SPARE WOULD NOT RELEASE, EITHER. I CALLED ON-STAR, GAVE EMERGENCY DETAILS, TO FIRST ADVISOR, THEN ADVANCE DIAGNOSTICS. I GOT OUT OF CAR, IT SURGED, BACKWARDS, WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, COMPLETELY ON, AND IT ACCELERATED, TAKING ME WITH IT, I PUSHED AWAY, AND IT KEPT ACCELERATING OVER THE SCENIC OVERLOOK, BEING DESTROYED. ON-STAR NEVER CONTACTED THE POLICE, AMBULANCE, OR ME, EVEN 1 WEEK AFTER THE ACCIDENT, I HAD TO CALL THEM AND REQUEST THE AUDIO OR TRANSCRIPT OF THE MALFUNCTIONS, AND CRASH. *NM
