At approximately 5600 miles, my Can-Am Ryker went into limp mode during a ride, limiting my top speed to 50 mph on the highway. This unexpected and sudden occurrence put my safety and the safety of other road users at risk. Request for NHTSA Intervention: I am reaching out to NHTSA to request your immediate intervention in addressing this widespread safety concern with the Can-Am 3-wheel motorcycles manufactured by Can-Am BRP. It is crucial that this matter is investigated thoroughly, and necessary actions are taken to ensure the safety of riders and passengers who are at risk due to the malfunctioning Stability Control System and associated components. I kindly request that NHTSA: Conduct a comprehensive investigation into the safety issue described, including the YAW sensor, SAS system, and Stability Control System of Can-Am. Collaborate with Can-Am BRP to expedite the development and implementation of a reliable and effective solution to rectify the issue, ensuring the safety of riders. Consider issuing a safety recall or other appropriate actions to address the issue in all affected vehicles. The safety of riders and road users is of paramount importance, and I believe that NHTSA's intervention is crucial in ensuring that this issue is resolved promptly. Issue Description: The Stability Control System on my Can-Am 3-wheeler engages during low-speed left turns when it is not required, which leads to significant safety issues. This system does not engage in a similar manner during right turns of comparable speed and sharpness. When the Stability Control System engages on a left turn, power is unexpectedly cut to the rear wheel, and the right brake engages, resulting in a disconcerting "wobble," unsteadiness, and a sensation of jumping. This situation causes extreme unease and creates a sense of losing control over the vehicle.

Can Am Ryker Wobbly Front and Back Tire/VSS Fault death wobbly VSS63 Code

Aug 13, 2023

My Ryker has developed the Yaw SAS fault codes C006C & C0063C being excessive play in steering components. It is a very wide known problem causing the trike to go into limp mode with no consumer fix without a dealer getting involved. This comes down to a poor designed bushing on the SAS sensor that fails due to turning stress on it. I am aware of the TSB 137209 which is also on my list of repairs. I have about 5600 miles on it when the trike went into limp mode leaving me with a top speed of 50 mph on the highway. This forced me to finish my 45 minute trip home at a very unsafe speed on the highway as I had no way to have it towed home> I will now have to find a way to a dealer thats over an hour away just to get a quote on the repairs as they are the only affordable way to clear the codes after repairs are done

The vehicle Stability Control System engages on low speed left turns when it is not required. It does not engage on right turns at similar speed and sharpness of corner. Power is cut to the rear wheel and the right brake engages, causing a "wobble", unsteady, and disconcerting sensation. This creates unease and the sense of losing control. Can Am has a service bulletin that may be related to this problem: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10181946-0001.pdf They will apply this fix if under warranty, but my warranty has expired. Many people have experienced this or similar problems.

I reached out to dealer ship and manufacture of my unit, explain to them that my unit has a serious wobble and shuddering skip while making turns in curves. I feel like it about to throw from the unit when it does this. I was told it was a yaw sensors. They would then tell me my bike is fine but it an ongoing issue that they refuse to look into

When making left hand turns the rear brake and front right surges on its own making it hard to control the vehicle. BRP knows the issue and has a TSB on it but the fix is a bandaid. The problem is the bearing failures that keep occurring in the pitman arm due to poor design, but BRP is saying this isn’t happening, even though it is a major complaint on the BRP Ryker forms. BRP TSB number # 137209

When making a left hand turn, at any speed over 35mph, the rear of the bike wobbles, and the front tires, at least one if not both begin to automatically brake. I’ve looked into it, it appears to be related to a SAS/VSS issue with the suspension and stability having too much play. I’ve researched and found that so many people reported it to NHTSA that you have an article, 137209. They will not fix this issue under recall because they claim it’s not an issue being reported enough. I can’t afford to have this issue that came from factory fixed because they don’t want to fix their issue. This is a major concern, at highway speed on an overpass I experience this issue daily and I’m afraid it’s going to cause an accident, because when it occurs the bike automatically slows 10-15 mph without me hitting the brakes, and I am worried I’m going to get hit by someone because of a defect in their product.

When making a left hand turn or a right turn at 40-45 mph it starts shaking ,I have to slow down then it stops shaking ,this could be an accident waiting to happen,,,the vehicle is a 2019 can am Ryker 600 ace

My Ryker started giving me problems going into sharp curves to the left. I have taken it to the dealership back in November and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. The problem continues. The same curves I used to take at 55-60, now I can’t take over 40-45 without the front end feeling like it is going to slid me off the road! The bike I used to love riding and always wanted to take curvy roads with scares me now. It’s not safe! I am either going to take the curves at speed limit and chance getting slug off into a ditch or I am going to slow down 10-15 mph and have someone run into the back of me. I posted my problem on a Ryker Facebook page and had over 60 comments. I am by far not the only one with this same problem! If something doesn’t get done about it, someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed! Please make this a recall! We want to enjoy our bikes like we used to and feel safe doing it!

Ryker went into limp mode

May 14, 2022

I have been dealing with an issue since December 2021 where the wheels lock up on tight left turns which has been pretty dangerous. Trike gives off vss code c0063 and c006c. I have taken it to the dealer on 3 occasions each time being told it was fixed only to have to situation reoccur a few days later. I have been unable to ride the vehicle since December.

When going on left turns feel like it jerks or like the abs is kicking in and I'm not sliding. When this happens it pushes me to the outside of the curve. Has done it since day one of owning it. Bought brand new. Hundreds of people on social media are have the same problem and the refuse to fix it.

Bearings in Pitmen Arm are failing. The Bearings are not pressed in and wear out quickly causing binding in the steering and triggering a VSS fault Code. Resulting in the vehicle going to Limp mode. I have seen many Can Am Rykers have this problem. Can Am refuses to Correct the problem. By the way my Ryker only has 1100 Miles on it and it's a 2019. Help before someone gets Killed.

When making left turns in curves the right wheel brakes automatically, caused me to run off the road, luckily I didn’t get hurt

Sep 16, 2021 Crash

VSS code is triggered with three codes making the Ryker go into limp mode. It started happening when I was going around turns (left) then eventually it locked me out of full performance. YAW/SAS C0063 and/or C0052 and *C006C) I hit a guard rail as it jolted me. Turns out there are many that have had the same problem when noted threw BRP dealers. So this is a known problem with the pitman steering arm bushings. Mine is most defiantly loose.

WHEN DRIVING AROUND 55 MPH THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO WANT TO DRIFT FROM ONE SIDE TO ANOTHER WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. I DO HAVE THE VEHICLE IN ECO MODE FOR BETTER FUEL CONSUMPTION AND BETTER TRACTION CONTROL.
