THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING BENEATH THE VEHICLE. FUMES OF SMOKE WERE SEEN BENEATH THE SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V386000(SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WERE MELTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.

IN AUGUST OF 2013 I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYING ON, REMOVED SIDE PANEL TO FINED THE WIRES MELTED AND SHORTED TOGETHER. I ALSO NOTICED THE PLASTIC ON THE MASTER CYLINDER SHOWED SIGNS OF MELTING AND OF GETTING HOT. I REPAIRED THE WIRES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURE ELECTRICAL TAPE. I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM BRP IN SEPTEMBER FOR HEAT RELATED PROBLEMS. THE DEALER FOUND THE FUEL EVAPORATOR CANISTER ALMOST BURNED THROUGH, IT WAS REPLACED AND COVERED IT WITH TIN FOIL HEAT SHIELD. THE DEALER DID NOT THINK THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS MELTED BAD ENOUGH TO WARRANT CHANGING AND COVERED IT WITH TIN FOIL HEAT SHIELD. I HAD THEM TO LEAVE THE WIRING AS I HAD ALREADY REPAIRED IT. I JUST RETURNED FROM A 200 MILE TRIP TODAY ON MY 2013 CAN-AM SPYDER RT-LIMITED AND HEARD ABOUT THE CANADIAN RECALL. I HAD FIRST DEGREE BURNS ON MY THIGH, AND MY WIFE RECEIVED A FIRST DEGREE BURN ON HER RIGHT ANKLE DUE TO THE EXCESS HEAT UNDER THE SEAT AREA. BRP HAS PROPOSED A SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE RAISED BY THE RECALL; THIS RECALL NOTIFICATION HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR AFFECTED MOTORCYCLES WITHIN CANADA BY TRANSPORT CANADA. AGENCIES IN OTHER COUNTRIES ARE ALSO REVIEWING THE SOLUTION FOR THEIR OWN JURISDICTIONS, INCLUDING THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) IN THE UNITED STATES. ALL OF THE DETAILS ON THE ISSUE, THE RECALL AND THE SOLUTION ARE BEING COMMUNICATED TO BRP'S CANADIAN DEALERS AS WELL AS TO ALL CANADIAN OWNERS OF A VEHICLE THAT IS AFFECTED BY TRANSPORT CANADA'S. AS SOON AS WE HAVE THE GREEN LIGHT FROM AGENCIES IN OTHER COUNTRIES, WE WILL RELEASE THE SAME INFORMATION TO THE DEALER NETWORK AND OWNERS OF AFFECTED VEHICLES WITHIN THOSE COUNTRIES, INCLUDING NHTSA IN THE UNITED STATES.
