This Problem Across All Years
While cruising at 70 mph the speed limit. I went over their minor bumps. It dropped into first gear digitally. (i.g. the gear sensor stopped working.) Which made my cruise control stop working. Another time, same spot but going 75 mph it killed my engine and gave me a trouble code. I found out it is rather common with this specific motorcycle. Cruise control disengages randomly. Gear indicator goes from 6th gear to 1st gear or displays -. This typically happens on interstate at 55-75mph and causes sudden engine braking with rapid deceleration. This creates a risk of getting rear ended at high rates of speed. This had been a common problem reported on forums for this model of motorcycle.

I was driving down the interstate with my cruise control on, and all of a sudden the motorcycle lost power and began to slow down and I couldn’t accelerate and had to make an emergency stop on the right hand side of the highway

The first issue is that of the fuel gauge displaying wrong and/or acting up. Sometimes it'll go directly from full to 1/4 tank, then randomly go back up to full or anywhere between. It's pretty spontaneous. The second issue is that of the cruise control. While travelling at interstate speeds and after passing another vehicle, I turned cruise control on only for the bike to die right after. I had to quickly make an emergency maneuver out the flow of traffic as I had no throttle or cruise and was slowing down very quickly. There was a check engine light that displayed however there was no codes that I saw at the time. After pulling onto the shoulder and restarting the bike, it's as if nothing ever happened - the engine light disappeared immediately and throttle worked. I'm now iffy using the cruise control and sometimes it won't engage, even if I wanted to (very random, just appears orange regardless gear/speed/etc). One other issue I've found with the bikes is that the gear shifter will frequently become inoperable too. It'll just give a "--" on the screen. There have been times where it's misread neutral and other gears, too, and caused me to almost crash when starting the bike (it thinks it's in neutral but jumps into 1st/2nd). I've also had issues when shifting up to sixth where it'll say it's in 1st all of a sudden. Very strange!
Fuel gauge on 2022 CFMOTO 700cl-x displays either empty, or partially full of fuel when the vehicle fuel tank is at its fullest state marked by the reference bar located inside the fuel tank. Cruise control randomly disengages while the vehicle display reads the incorrect gear position. Example: Cruise control set at speed limit, gear indicator “flickers” between 1st and 6th gear while vehicle is in motion which appears to disengage the cruise control. Motorcycles loose speed quickly at zero throttle and this has become a safety issue for me.

This motorcycle is equipped with cruise control. At highway speeds in 6th gear, a design issue with the gear position sensor causes the indicated gear to rapidly switch between 6th gear and 1st gear. This has two effects: 1. Cruise control disengages 2. The engine shuts off and will not start again until the motorcycle is fully shut off (key turned to the off position and back on) This reaction to the gear indicator reading results in the motorcycle abruptly engine braking at speeds up to 80 mph and an inability to restart the engine until stopped on the side of the road. There have been several times where this has happened to me where the motorcycle abruptly decelerates from 70-80 mph to below 60 mph in the span of seconds, causing following vehicles to have to slam on their brakes. If there was someone behind who was distracted, they would surely hit me as engine braking does not activate the brake lights. This is a well known issue with this motorcycle and almost every 700clx has this issue. The only fix is through a warranty repair in which the entire shifter mechanism is removed and replaced with redesigned parts. This is not an issue with wear or broken parts, as the bikes do this straight from the factory almost 100% of the time. If more evidence is required for a recall, you can look at the cfmoto 700clx owners Facebook group where almost everyone reports this issue.
