TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 CHEVROLET ASTRO. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEEL BRAKE LINE RUSTED AND THE BRAKES FAILED. WHILE REPLACING THE BRAKE PADS THE FLUID LEAKED ONTO A RUSTED AREA OF THE BRAKE LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.

CONSUMER COMPLAINING OF ABS BRAKE SYSTEM HAVING FAILED ON THREE OCCASIONS, ONCE RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. FIRST TIME CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON ROAD AT 35 MPH UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. WAS PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO STOP, WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND STOPPED WITHIN INCHES OF HITTING VEHICLE IN FRONT. SECOND TIME, WHILE DRIVING AND APPLYING THE BRAKES TO COME TO A STOP WHEN HEARD AN UNUSUAL NOISE COMING FROM THE WHEEL AS SHE WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES, AND THE VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A DELAYED STOP. THE FINAL FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE CONSUMER WAS TURNING OFF THE HIGHWAY DURING 20 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS.
