TAKATA RECALL. (THIS NOT AN ACCIDENT REPORT.) ON 2/20/17 I CALLED A LOCAL AUTHORIZED CHEV DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE RECALL ON MY TRUCK FOR AN AIRBAG DEFECT. I CALLED AGAIN TODAY, 2/20/29 ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. BOTH TIMES I HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY PARTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHEN I WENT TO REGISTER MY VEHICLE FOR THE UPCOMING RENEWAL PERIOD MARYLAND DMV WROTE "PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL MANUFACTURERS AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP TO RESOLVE AT NO COST." SO, I AM PRETTY CONFUSED AS WHAT TO DO. IT HAD BEEN EXACTLY 2 YEARS SINCE MY FIRST NOTICE OF THIS PROBLEM AND I AM STILL BEING GIVEN THE SAME ANSWER WHILE I AM ALSO STILL BEING TOLD TO CONTACT A DEALERSHIP TO GET THIS REPAIRED. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GM TWO YEARS AGO IDENTIFYING MY VEHICLE AS AFFECTED BY THE AIRBAG RECALL AND WAS ALSO INFORMED I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE REPAIRS. I HAVE CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SINCE RECEIVING THE NOTICE AND I AM ALWAYS TOLD THAT THERE ARE NO PARTS AND I WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN REPAIR IS AVAILABLE. THE DASHBOARD HAS LARGE CRACKS BOTH IN FRONT OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND AROUND THE AIRBAG. THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MORE THAN 4,000 GM TRUCK OWNERS. THE CRACKING AROUND THE AIRBAG ARE ESPECIALLY CONCERNING, AND LIKELY POSE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK WERE THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. GM IS APPARENTLY AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND FAILS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR CORRECTING THE PROBLEM.

MY DASH IS CRACKED AND IT REFLECTS THE CRACK ON THE WINDSHIELDS AND CAUSES GLARE. IF THE AIRBAG WAS TO DEPLOY THE SHARP PLASTIC WOULD CUT YOU FROM THE BROKEN DASH. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE PROBLEM AND THERE ARE GROUPS ON FACEBOOK WITH THOUSANDS THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE. GM WILL NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE IT.

THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2007 CHEVY AVALANCHE HAS BEEN CRACKING FOR YEARS, I DID LET MY DEALERSHIP KNOW AND THEY SAID THAT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY DIDN'T OFFER ME A DISCOUNT TO REPAIR IT. MY DASH HAS SEVERAL CRACKS FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG, A LARGE HOLE IS DIRECTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DASH WHERE THE PIECES JUST VIBRATED APART EXPOSING THE EQUIPMENT UNDER THE DASH. THE PIECES OF PLASTIC ARE A LITTLE HEAVY AND SHARP I FEEL THE WHOLE DASH COULD BREAK INTO PIECES IF THE AIR BAG IS DEPLOYED. I DO NOT HAVE ANY RECORD OF RECEIVING A QUOTE OR BEING DENIED THE REPAIR, BUT I DON'T THINK THEY WILL DENY THAT THEY'VE BEEN SAYING IT'S NOT COVERED. AND, I'M NOT SURE OF THE EXACT DATE, BUT I THINK IT STARTED TO CRACK IN 2010, NOW IT'S KIND OF A WRECK, I'VE ATTACHED A PICTURE OF THE BIG HOLE!

I WAS INVOLVED IN MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON THE DATE OF NOV 21,2013. I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, I WAS HIT BY AN ON COMING MID SIZED SUV TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE CRASH CAUSED A LARGE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO THE SUV AS WELL AS A LARGE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO MY 2007 AVALANCHE. THE IMPACT HIT MY FRONT DRIVERS CORNER. MY AIR BAGS DID "NOT" DEPLOY!!!! THERE IS NOW A WARNING LIGHT ON MY DASH INFO CENTER. I GOT THAT INFO FROM THE INS ADJUSTER WHO CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THE TRUCK IS GOING TO BE REPAIRED. MY CONCERN IS THAT WHY DIDN'T MY AIR BAGS DEPLOY??? I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME READING AND THERE SEAMS TO BE A MAJOR ISSUE WITH GM'S AVALANCHE MODELS AND AIR BAG ISSUES. IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON SEVERAL WEB SITE THREW OUT THE INTERNET. I EVEN FOUND SOME INFO ON SERVICE NOTICES POSTED BY GM TO DEALERS. IF GM KNOWS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A NATIONAL RECALL? I WAS INVOLVED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND DID NOT HAVE THE ADDED BENEFIT OF THE SAFETY DEVICES THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO SAVE MY LIFE I PAID FOR THAT ADDED SAFETY IN THE HIGH PURCHASE PRICE OF MY TRUCK. CRACKED DASHBOARD ON PASSENGER SIDE WHERE AIRBAG IS FITTED. UPPER LEFTHAND SIDE OF AIRBAG. TRACTION CONTROL/STABILITRAC SYSTEM: SERVICE INDICATOR WARNINGS ACTIVATE, SWITCHES FROM 2 WHEEL DRIVE TO 4 WHEEL DRIVE HIGH EVEN THOUGH SELECTOR IS IN 2WD MODE. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THIS WAS AT 70K MILES, THEN AGAIN AT 90K. THEN AGAIN AT 97K THE TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AGAIN AT 101K MILES THE RINGGEAR IN THE REAR AXEL WAS DESTROYED. REAR AXEL WAS REPLACED. FIFTH TIME FOR THOSE COUNTING, 116K MILES SERVICE STABILITRAC AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL WARNINGS, SWITCHING FROM 2WD TO 4WD HIGH WHILE MOVING, WHILE PARKED, SELECTOR IN 2WD POSITION WITH SOMEONE AT THE WHEEL OR CAB EMPTY. EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL WARNING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, CODE COMES BACK TO EEC. INDICATING A LEAK IN THE RETURN LINE. THE FIRST TIME THIS WAS REPLACED AT 70K MILES, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME. ON SATURDAY, 07/12/2008, I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A PAVED CITY ROAD IN DRY, SUNNY WEATHER. WITHOUT WARNING OR AN ACCIDENT, BOTH SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED SUDDENLY IN MY 2007 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE. AS ADVISED BY ONSTAR AND A LOCAL CHEVROLET SERVICE DEALER, I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY MORNING (07/14/08). ON THE 1ST DAY OF DROP-OFF/DAMAGE EVALUATION AND DIAGNOSIS, THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THAT GENERAL MOTORS HAD AGREED TO MAKE REPAIRS TO MY TRUCK AND PAY MY RENTAL VEHICLE CHARGES. I INQUIRED ABOUT WHAT CAUSED THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND WAS TOLD BY MY SERVICE ADVISER THAT HE DID NOT KNOW AND THAT G.M. HAD ADVISED HIM TO PROVIDE A RENTAL VEHICLE FOR ME, ORDER REPAIR PARTS, AND SEND IN THE DAMAGED PARTS TO G.M. . TWO DAYS LATER, THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR CONTACTED ME AND STATED THAT I HAVE SCRAPES ON MY (RIGHT-SIDED) RIMS/TIRES AND THAT G.M. IS NOW REFUSING TO COVER THIS REPAIR AND THAT I AM TO FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM. THIS UNWARRANTED AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A SERIOUS OR FATAL DRIVING INJURY.
