The splicer connected to the fuse box in the engine burns up after a while of use causing the Dash lights, right brake light and front marker light to not work at night. It is a major safety issue and hundreds/thousands of complaints online (via google) have been made about it burning up.
MY ELECTRICAL PANEL WAS DEFECTIVE, SENT IN 4 TIMES AND THEY CLAIMED TO REPLACE THE ELECTRICAL PANEL. IT WAS RIGGED BY CROSSING WIRES AND LIGHTS IN DASH DONT WORK AND RADIO TAPPED INTO WIPERS. THEN CALIPERS,SWAY ARMS,SHOCKS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DEFECTIVE AND ALSO NEVER REPLACED RIGHT. PAID SOMEONE TO PUT EMISSIONS STICKER TO PASS.

ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. PRIOR TO BURNING SMELL, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ALL INSIDE DASH LIGHTS AND CLOCK LIGHTS AND GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A MAJOR CITY STREET. ALL LIGHTS STAYED OFF FOR ABOUT 20 MINS. DAYTIME RUNNING LIGTS NEVER CAME BACK ON. CLOCK LIGHTS STILL GOES OFF AN ON. DASH LIGHTS AND GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS CAME BACK ON ONCE. BUT HAVE BEEN OFF A MONTH NOW. REPORTED TO GM. RECALL ON DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS FIXED FREE. BUT THEY SAID NO RECALL ON WIRING OF LIGHTS. I AM NOT THE ONLY OWNER THAT HAS THOS PROBLEM THERE ARE MANY WHO HAVE WRITTEN COMPLAIYS ON GM. RECALL WEBSITE. I PAYED THEM $100.00 TO CHECK PROBLEM ABOUT LIGHTS THEY SAID THEY NEEDED $400 MORE DOLLARS FOR 4 HOURS OF MORE LOOKING. MY FAMILY MECHANIC FOUND PROBLEM WITH IN 10 MINS...... DEALER.. ON A WINTER MORNING I WENT OUT AND STARTED MY CAR TO GO TO WORK, I GOT ON THE ROAD AND REALIZED THAT MY DASHBOARD , HEATING CONTROL, AND SHIFTER LIGHTS DID NOT WORK. I MOVED THE SETTINGS SWITCH AND NOTHING CAME ON. I HAVE CHECKED THE FUSES. THEY ARE FINE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THAT MANY AVEOS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. AND THE ONLY FIX IS TO REWIRE THE SYSTEM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. IF I TAKE IT TO THE SHOP IT'S GOING TO COST ANYWHERE BETWEEN 50-100 DOLLARS OR MORE. IF ITS A PROBLEM TO THE CONSUMERS THEN IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND NOT JUST A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. IF THIS IS A WIRING ISSUE THEN IT COULD POSSIBLY END UP CAUSING A FIRE.

I FIND IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FATHOM HOW GM, PRODUCING MILLIONS OF VEHICLES EACH YEAR, EACH AND EVERY ONE EQUIPPED WITH A HEADLAMP SWITCH, YET CANNOT FIND A VENDOR TO PRODUCE A HEADLAMP SWITCH. MY AVEO HAS HAD A BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL IN THE CAB FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS. A RECALL WAS ISSUED 8 MONTHS AGO AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. GM STATES THAT THE REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE. SINCE THE RECALL THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER AND THE ELECTRICAL SMELL HAS GOTTEN WORSE. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT AT THE TIME AND WAS TOLD THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS. SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS ALSO LOOKED AT IT AND I WAS TOLD THERE IS A SHORT SOMEWHERE BUT COULD NOT SPECIFY WHERE WITHOUT DIGGING INTO IT. EVERY OTHER MONTH (APPROXIMATELY) FOR OVER THREE YEARS, ONE HEADLAMP OR THE OTHER WOULD GO OUT. I RECEIVED THE LECTURE ABOUT NOT TOUCHING THE BULB WHEN INSTALLING, THOUGH I KNEW THIS ALREADY, AND IT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. BOTH HEADLAMP PLUGS ARE NOW CHARRED AND APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AFTER I GOT THE ORIGINAL RECALL LETTER, BOTH HEADLAMPS WENT DIM, SO DIM THAT THE PARKING LIGHTS SHED MORE LIGHT, MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE FOR DRIVING OTHER THAN DAYTIME. I WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT I NEED TO WAIT UNTIL I CAN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO REPAIR IT, SO WAITED ANOTHER MONTH OR TWO AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT, ONLY TO BE TOLD WHEN I ARRIVED, THAT THERE WAS NOT A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM YET. MY DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE PRETTY MUCH NEVER WORKED, I HAVE ALWAYS HAD TO MANUALLY ENGAGE MY LIGHTS OTHERWISE THE DTR LIGHTS WOULD GO FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN BURN FLICKER AND SHORT OUT, ONLY WORKING WHEN I TURN THE LIGHTS ON THE MANUAL WAY. MY BACK TURN SIGNAL SHORTED OUT AROUND EARLY 2012. NOT ONLY DID IT STOP WORKING BUT IT MELTED THE LIGHT SOCKET HOUSING, MAKING IT SO I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE LIGHT SOCKET. MOST RECENTLY, EITHER MAY 14TH OR 15TH, I STARTED UP MY CAR, BUT I COULDN'T PUT IT INTO GEAR, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IT INTO GEAR, SO WE TRIED TO TURN OFF THE CAR TO FIGURE OUT OUR NEXT MOVE. BUT THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT, SO WE HAD TO RESTART THE CAR AND FINALLY GOT THE GEAR TO ENGAGE, AND WE TOOK IT HOME AND HAD TO UNPLUG THE BATTERY BECAUSE WE COULD NOT TAKE OUT THE KEY BUT DID NOT WANT IT TO WEAR OUT THE BATTERY. *TR

INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER FUSE KEPT BLOWING, ONLY WHEN FUEL GAUGE WAS BELOW HALF OF A TANK. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND PROBLEM. SOON AFTER INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS, GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS, AND PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LIGHT WENT OUT. REPLACED TAIL LIGHT BULBS, AND STILL DID NOT WORK. READ FORUMS AND FOUND THE PROBLEM WAS SPLICER IN THE HOOD COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR, THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL DUE TO EXTREME SAFETY ISSUES. CANNOT SEE OR BE SEEN AT NIGHT, CANNOT SEE GAUGES WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. *TR

REPLACED EVERY EMISSIONS AT LEAST FOUR/TWO SETS OF TIRES/SHOCKS/STRUTSENGINE SEALS/SIGNAL LIGHTS/HEADLIGHT /TAIL LIGHT PRETTY MUCH EVERY LIGHT INCLUDING INSIDE CAR THAT I CAN THINK OF/ REPLACED TWO BATTERIES/ HAD CORROSION TAKEN OUT OF DIFFERENT PARTS UNDER HOOD AS WELL REPLACE MANY WIRES UNDER HOOD. I HAVE PUTTING MONEY IN THIS CAR SINCE 2009. I AM DONE IT HAS A TOTAL OF 43,000 MILES .DO NOT BUY ONE. *TR
DASH LIGHTS AND CLOCK LIGHT FLICKERED FOR MONTHS THEN DASH LIGHTS FINALLY WENT DEAD. DASH LIGHTS NO LONGER WORK AND ALSO HAS AFFECTED REAR PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LAMP. THE PLASTIC SPLICE CONNECTOR BOX IN THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX IS BURNT TO A CRISP. UPON SEARCHING ONLINE IT APPEARS AS THOUGH SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS (SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, ETC.) LIGHTS ON SHIFTER, AND RIGHT REAR TAILLIGHTS ALL WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. FUSES WERE ALL STILL GOOD, LIGHT BULBS STILL GOOD. EVENTUALLY TRACKED IT DOWN TO A BURNT OUT WIRING SPLICE, WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE LOSS OF INTERIOR LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS IS A SERIOUS HAZARD - ESPECIALLY WHEN THE FIX REQUIRES HUNTING DOWN BAD FACTORY WIRING. *TR
