WAS DRIVING TO STORE THE FIRST TIME AND READY TO STOP AT RED LIGHT AND THE BAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO FLOOR,MADE IT HOME AND SAW FLUID LEAKING FROM A RUPTURED LINE.(REPLACED AND HAD THE REST LOOKED OVER). SECOND TIME A YEAR LATER DEC. 23 ON TURNPIKE , I HAD TO STOP QUICKLY AND ANOTHER BRAKE LINE FAILED ,TAKING IT IN THIS WEEK TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. ALL BECAUSE OF RUSTED AND CORRODED LINES. *KB

MY 1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE (2DR, 4X4) HAD AN ABS SENSOR FAILURE DUE TO DEBRIS BUILDUP WHICH CASED THE ABS TO INDICATE A FALSE WHEEL LOCK AT LOW SPEEDS ON DRY PAVEMENT. THIS FAILURE IS IDENTICAL TO THE FAILURES THAT PROMPTED THE CANADIAN RECALL OF GM SUVS HAVING THIS ABS CONFIGURATION. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE THE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY, AND CLEAN ALL OF THE ABS SENSORS IN ORDER TO STOP THE FALSE TRIGGERING OF THE ABS SYSTEM. *NM

I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES ON MY 1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE, SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN NOTED IN THE RECENT RECALL NUMBER 05V3790000. I HAD A SLOW SPEED IMPACT CRASH IN 1998 THAT RESULTED IN SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE THAT I REAR ENDED, AND MINOR DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. I REMEMBER THINKING AT THE TIME, THAT IT SURE TOOK A LONG TIME FOR MY VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP, CONSIDERING THAT I WAS TRAVELING AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED, BUT I ATTRIBUTED IT TO MY VEHICLE'S HEAVIER WEIGHT, BUT ALSO THINKING, IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN THAT BAD, BECAUSE MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. IT TOOK FOREVER FOR ME TO STOP, AND I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN. I HAVE HAD MY BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED AT MILEAGE RATES, THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN OTHERWISE NECESSARY, BUT I WAS TOLD BY CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS THAT THE REPAIRS WERE NECESSARY, SO I CONTINUED TO PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS ON MY BRAKES. ANY TIME MY VEHICLE IS DRIVEN BY ANOTHER OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS, THEY COMMENT ON HOW LOW THE BRAKES ARE, AND I BECOME FRUSTRATED, AS IT IS USUALLY, RIGHT AFTER A BRAKE JOB! I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO INVESTIGATE COMPLAINTS ON VEHICLES AND CRASHES IN WEST TEXAS, AS WELL AS NEW MEXICO AND CALIFORNIA WHERE THERE IS SAND. AT THE TIME OF MY ACCIDENT, I RESIDED IN EL PASO, TEXAS, WHICH IS COMPRISED OF 100% SAND. THERE ARE FREQUENT SAND STORMS, AND REALLY, THAT IS THE MAKEUP OF THE LANDSCAPE IN THAT AREA. IF THE RECALL IN THE NORTHERN STATES IS DUE TO THE USE OF SALT ON THE ROADS, WHAT ABOUT THE SAND THAT IS EVERYWHERE IN WEST TEXAS? I HAVE HAD THE SAME DEFECTS AND FAILURES WITH MY BRAKES AS THE VEHICLES THAT ARE DRIVEN UP NORTH, BUT I WAS NOT AWARE THAT I COULD LODGE A COMPLAINT REGARDING THIS MATTER TO THE NHTSA BEFORE THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED. IMAGINE MY DISAPPOINTMENT WHEN I DISCOVERED THE RECALL IS ONLY EFFECTIVE IN THE NORTHERN STATES. PLEASE, LOOK INTO BROADENING THE RECALL TO INCLUDE STATES WHERE FINE SAND COULD AFFECT THE BRAKES AND RESULT IN FAILURE.*JB

I HAVE A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK THAT HAS DEFECTIVE ABS BRAKES. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, I NEARLY CRASHED WHEN I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS EVEN THOUGH I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH ALL MY MIGHT. I HAD THE BRAKE SYSTEM REPAIRED AT A SMALL SHOP AT A COST OF OVER $300.00 BUT THE "FIX" WAS ONLY TEMPORARY. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS A DEFECT IN GENERAL MOTORS DESIGN RELATING TO IMPROPER VOLTAGES TO THE SENSORS. I HAVE HAD MANY NEAR ACCIDENTS SINCE THEN. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AND AM AFRAID AN ACCIDENT WILL OCCUR IN ALL LIKELIHOOD. THE LATEST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT A RESTAURANT WHERE I CAME VERY CLOSE TO STRIKING A TREE.

I WAS PULLING INTO ADVANCED AUTO WHEN THE BRAKES GAVE OUT ON ME. I JUMPED THE CURB AND SIDE WALK AND WAS STOPPED BY A TRASH CAN AND THE FRONT WALL. LUCKLY I WASN'T GOING FAST AND DIDN'T GO THROUGH THE WALL. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME MY BRAKES WENT OUT LIKE THIS. I ALSO TOLD TO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE LATER MODEL CHEVY'S.THEY ALSO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. ALL THREE TIMES I HAD WHEEL SENSORS REPLACED. I FEER THE NEXT TIME I WON'T BE SO LUCKY. I ALSO KNOW THAT I'M NOT THE FIRST ONE TO REPORT THIS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. WHEN WILL THIS BE FIXED.*AK

WHEN VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF ABS MODULE WAS STILL RUNNING. CONSUMER APPROACHED THE VEHICLE AFTER HEARING A HUMMING SOUND COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. AFTER GETTING UNDER THE VEHICLE ABS MODULE WAS HUMMING AND WAS EXTREMELY HOT TO TOUCH. *AK

ABS LIGHT CAME ON. STOPPED TRUCK AND HEARD LOUD "CLICKING" NOISE. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER (CORONA CHEVROLET). DEALER SAID "IT'S YOUR ABS PUMP. IT WILL COST $1000 DOLLERS TO FIX. COULD CAUSE A FIRE. DO YOU WANT US TO FIX IT?" WHAT ELSE COULD I SAY? THE DEALER DID THROW IN A "FREE" OIL CHANGE ($19.95 VALUE).
