TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT POINT FAILED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT GEARS INCORRECTLY AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JERK AND STALL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXTRA EFFORT WAS NEEDED TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED WHILE DRIVING, PROVIDING SPEED READINGS OF 40 MPH, 20 MPH, 50 MPH INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE HOWEVER, THE REPAIR FAILED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERS AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I CALLED CHEVY DEALERSHIP TODAY AND WAS NOTIFIED IGNITION SWITCH WAS ALREADY REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY AND THAT I MAY BE CHARGED A DIAGNOSTIC FEE IF I BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR.

ABOUT ONCE A MONTH "POWER STEERING" APPEARS ON DISPLAY, SOMETIME POWER ASSIST IS GONE, MOST TIMES IT IS STILL THERE BUT TRANSMISSION SHIFTS VERY HARD AND STALLS ENGINE WHEN STOPPED FOR RED LIGHT. IF POWER STEERING COMES ON RIGHT AWAY AFTER STARTING VEHICLE, SHUT OFF, SMACK PASS SIDE OF CENTER CONSOLE, THEN START, USUALLY OFF THEN, BUT IF VEHICLE IS HOT FROM SITTING IN SUN, OR VERY COLD IN WINTER, YOU HAVE TO DRIVE IT AND EITHER HEAT IT UP OR COOL IT OFF BEFORE PULLING OVER PARKING AND SHUT OFF FOR 15 MINUTES, THEN HIT IT THEN START IT. TOLD DEALER OF THIS BEFORE P/S RECALL WORK WAS DONE THEY SAID IT WAS NOT RELATED, WHEN I WENT TO PICK IT UP THEY ASK IF WE WERE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE POWER STEERING AND TRANSMISSION, I SAID YES, THEY SAID OH HAVE A NICE DAY.

VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. LIKE THE BATTERY WAS DEAD, WOULDN'T EVEN TRY TO TURN OVER. GO TO TURN THE KEY OFF AND POP MY TRUNK WHERE THE BATTERY IS LOCATED AND I CAN NOT GET MY KEY TO TURN ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE OFF POSITION, AS A RESULT I CANNOT REMOVE MY KEY. THE SPEEDOMETER READ 30MPH EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE NEVER STARTED AND WASN'T MOVING. NON OF THE ELECTRONICS WERE WORKING SO I WAS UNABLE TO POP MY TRUNK. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE WILL START AND WHEN IT DOES THE BATTERY LIGHT STAYS ON AND THE DASH READS; ENGINE PERFORMANCE LOW. THE TRANSMISSION WILL SURGE AS I AM DRIVING AND I CANNOT GO FASTER THAN 30MPH. I HAVE EVEN HAD THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. AFTER ANYWHERE BETWEEN A FEW HOURS TO A FEW WEEKS THE VEHICLE WILL STOP ACTING UP AND DRIVE NORMAL FOR A WHILE. AGIAN THE NORMAL LASTS ANYWHERE BETWEEN A FEW HOURS TO A FEW MONTHS AS WELL. THE POWER STERING ALSO FLASHES ON THE DASH AND SOMETIMES CUTS COMPLEATLY OUT.

THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, WAS AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS.(60 TO 70MPH) THE SECOND, WAS IN CITY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE THIRD WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AFTER A 5 MINUTE IDLE. THE FOURTH WAS WHEN MY LAST MECHANIC WAS TEST DRIVING IT BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE'D FIXED IT. DASH LIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF, ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, ENGINE COOLING FANS STOP OPERATING, TRANSMISSION HUNTS FOR WHAT GEAR IT SHOULD BE IN; RESULTING IN THE TRANSMISSION SELF DESTRUCTING. ENGINE MANAGEMENT, OTHER THAN THE COOLING FANS, SEEMS TO BE UNAFFECTED. I'VE REPLACED 4 TCM'S SO FAR; AS ALL MECHANICS SAY THAT IS THE PROBLEM. IT WORKS FOR A FEW DAYS OR A WEEK, THEN THE SAME PROBLEM MANIFEST. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH QUITE A FEW GM VEHICLES.

THIS BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND IS NOW IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. MY TECHNICIAN SAYS IT IS A BODY OR TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE COSTING WELL OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS. THERE APPEAR TO BE 100S OF 1000S OF THE SAME ISSUE AS PER SEARCH ENGINES. I WILL CONTACT MY LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP. IF GM WILL NOT BACK UP ITS PRODUCT IT WILL BE THE LAST GM IN MY DRIVEWAY. I WILL TRADE IN ON A TOYOTA.

BROUGHT IT INTO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC RAN TO BE INFORMED IT IS A FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE WITH TCM. CODE U0101 AND ALSO U2100. AFTER DOING RESEARCH THERE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. SO FIRST THINGS FIRST REPLACED THE TCM WITH A NEW ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER REPLACEMENT THE VEHICLE IS STILL NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY.

CAR WAS RECALLED IN 2010 FOR POWER STEERING. PREVIOUS OWNER HAD IT FIXED. I INITIALLY REPORTED BACK IN JANUARY 2014 OF RECURRING PROBLEM OF LOSING POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. I WAS TOLD IT WAS ALREADY FIXED SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL. HERE IT IS A YEAR LATER AND I'M STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED FLICKERING BACK AND FORTH GOING HAYWIRE AND THERE WAS A WEIRD TICKING NOISE IN THE AREA NEAR THE GEARSHIFT. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY A TRACTOR TRAILER BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP ON ME AND I HAD MY 3 KIDS IN THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A NEW COIL PACK, IT WAS REPLACED AND IT'S STILL DOING THE SAME THING. IT SHAKES AT RED LIGHTS AND OCCASIONALLY CUTS OFF. I HAVE TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO GET IT TO ACCELERATE WHICH IT DOES BUT VERY SLOWLY, AND THEN IT JUST TAKES OFF LIKE A ROCKET AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER IT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!! ALSO MY CAR CAN SWITCH GEARS WITHOUT HAVING TO PRESS THE BRAKE OR THE BUTTON IN THE GEARSHIFT. I CAN JUST SIMPLY PUSH THE GEARSHIFT BACK AND FORTH WITHOUT BEING IN THE CAR. WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY MY KNEECAP BUMPED MY KEYS AND MY CAR TURNED OFF. THERE NEEDS TO BE ANOTHER RECALL OF THE POWER STEERING BECAUSE APPARENTLY THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE FAULTY AS WELL. OR IT COULD BE THE FAULTY WIRING ALTOGETHER IN THE SYSTEM. THESE CHEVY COBALTS NEED TO BE TAKEN OFF OF THE STREETS AND OWNERS REIMBURSED FOR THE CAR PLUS ALL OF THE TROUBLE AND NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES THAT WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE ON GMS BEHALF. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE POWER STEERING BEING FIXED AND STILL HAVE THE SAME RESULTS AS MYSELF. WHILE DRIVING MY COBALT FROM ANYWHERE BETWEEN 10MPH TO 50MPH MULTIPLE "DING" NOISES OCCUR. THEN ANY NUMBER OF ALERT LIGHTS COME ON INCLUDING; TRACTION CONTROL, AIR BAG, CHECK ENGINE, ETC... I HAD THE IGNITION CYLINDER REPLACED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, DUE TO THE KEY NOT BEING ABLE TO RELEASE. THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2005 MODEL YEAR COBALTS. WELL, THE VEHICLE IS DOING THIS AGAIN. THE KEY IS NOT BEING RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION CYLINDER. HOWEVER, THIS TIME I BELIEVE IT IS THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY THAT HAS GONE BAD. THERE IS NO REVERSE LOCK OUT. I CAN FREELY CYCLE THROUGH THE GEARS WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKES WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I CAN PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKES BY SIMPLY MOVING THE SHIFT LEVER. LITTLE TO NO FORCE IS NEEDED, I CAN ACCIDENTALLY KNOCK THE LEVER INTO REVERSE WITH THE LITTLEST OF FORCE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT ABNORMALLY HARD AND WOULD OFTEN JUMP WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY ATTEMPT TO STALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE AND EACH TIME THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC KEY FOB COULD NOT BE USED TO LOCK THE DOORS BECAUSE THE ANTI-THEFT ALARM COULD NOT BE DISARMED. DIFFICULT STEERING, ACCELERATING NO MORE THAN 30 MPH, AND TRANSMISSION JERKING. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO SHOP 2 TIMES. THE TRANS MODULE WAS REPLACED AUGUST 1, 2012. A DAY AFTER PICK UP, IT HAD THE SAME ISSUES I.E. DIFFICULTY STEERING, UNEXPECTED STALLING, ROUGH LIMITED ACCELERATION, FLASHING COMPUTER LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. THE AUTO SHOP EMPLOYEE ASSURED ME" IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND DO NOT BE AFRAID.." THE SHOP HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR THREE WEEKS. IT WAS WRITTEN ON INVOICE, " CAR DRIVEN FOR 26 MILES TROUBLE FREE HAS POSSIBLE INOP ISSUE, BUT IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED." ON SEVERAL PRIOR OCCASIONS, THE KEY WOULD BECOME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD SIMPLY SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE, CYCLING THROUGH THE GEARS. THIS WOULD ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. I FIGURED IT WAS A SMALL PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SHIFTER, IT MAY NOT BE FULLY ENGAGING IN PARK. THIS SITUATION CARRIED ON FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO (2) YEARS, WHENEVER NEEDED I WOULD REPEAT THE CYCLING OF GEARS TO DISENGAGE THE KEY. HOWEVER, A FEW DAYS AGO THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THE PREVIOUS SOLUTION WOULD NO LONGER DISLODGE THE KEY. I FOUND THE SWITCH UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL TO REMOVE THE KEY, BUT THE CAR IS INOPERABLE DUE TO THE KEY BECOMING STUCK IN THE IGNITION CYLINDER ON A CONSTANT BASIS. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED COBALTS. THE SHIFTER IS NOT FULLY ENGAGING A MICRO SHIFTER WHEN ENGAGING IN PARK, CAUSING THE KEY TO REMAIN IN THE IGNITION. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD NO MILEAGE OR SPEEDOMETER READING. I TOOK IT TO MR. TIRE WHICH WAS ABOUT 3 MILES AWAY. THEY PUT THE CAR ON A MACHINE AND FOUND MIL CODE U0101. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS. I CALLED THE DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND TOOK IT RIGHT OVER TO THEM. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS AND FINALLY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE TCM AND REPROGRAM IT, CLEAR THE CODES AND RETEST. THIS WAS GOING TO COST $500. I HAD TAKEN THIS CAR TO BOB BELL LAST JUNE WHEN I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. IT WAS REPAIRED. AFTER A FEW MONTHS I NOTICED THAT THREE OR FOUR TIMES THE SIGNAL CAME ON ABOUT BRAKES BUT THEN DISAPPEARED AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. THEN THIS MONDAY THIS HAPPENED.

WITH NO ADVANCED SIGNS OR WARNING (MILEAGE AT 99,930), UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR'S RPM REVVED UP AND DOWN AND WANTED TO STALL. THE FUEL GAUGE JUMPED BACK AND FORTH. THERE WAS A CONSTANT CLICKING IN THE GEAR SHIFT AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED INTO PLACE WHERE I COULD NOT TURN IT. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES BEFORE EVERYTHING SEEMED TO GO BACK TO NORMAL AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. THE NEXT TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS WHEN MILEAGE WAS AT 99960. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT STOPPING AND STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND SECURITY WARNING LIGHTS WENT OUT AND I PUT THE CAR INTO GEAR TO DRIVE, ONLY TO BE PRACTICALLY JERKED OUT OF MY SEAT WITH HARD SHIFTING AND ACTING LIGHT IT WANTED TO STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP. I DROVE THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED ON THE ENTIRE DRIVE THERE. ONCE THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF, THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE RECREATED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEREFORE I WAS SENT ON MY WAY WITH NO EXPLANATION OF WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG. THE NEXT REPEAT EVENT OCCURRED 3 WEEKS LATER (MILEAGE 100,450) BUT CORRECTED ITSELF WITH SEVERAL OFF/ON OF THE ENGINE. NEXT OCCURRENCE AGAIN AT 100,600 WITH SAME RESULTS. THIS HAS NOT YET HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, BUT I DID ASK THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING AND HE SAID IF IT DID, I WOULD EASILY BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND PULL OFF THE ROAD. PERSONALLY, I DO NOT WANT TO EXPERIENCE THIS WHILE DRIVING 55-65 MPH! *PLEASE NOTE...THE INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE. WE HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT SEDAN THAT WAS INVOLVED IN THE RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING MOTOR INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE. WE HAD NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING PRIOR TO THE RECALL BEING PERFORMED. AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, WE BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE WITH INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE - PLUS ADDITIONAL FAILURES. UPON START-UP, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED NO POWER STEERING, AND HAD TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RETRY NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE THE POWER STEERING RETURNS. IN ADDITION TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS: TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATING RANDOM CLICKING OF THE BRAKE SAFETY INTERLOCK RELAY / ACTUATOR (WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKE). CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TRANSMISSION GOING INTO "LIMP MODE"..."SLAMMING" INTO GEAR WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK - OR IMPROPER SHIFTING WHILE DRIVING. RANDOM DASH GAUGE FAILURE RANDOM FAILURES OF THE "DRIVER'S INFORMATION CENTER" - FLASHING, ETC. THIS WAS INITIALLY HAPPENING ONLY UPON START-UP...BUT STARTED HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING AS WELL - NEARLY LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY URBAN STREET. SHE WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO DRIFT INTO THE TURN LANE AND COME TO A STOP TO AVOID A COLLISION AND LIKELY SERIOUS INJURY TO HERSELF AND OTHERS, AS IT WAS VIRTUALLY UNCONTROLLABLE. IN ADDITION TO THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING (WHILE DRIVING), THE TRANSMISSION ALSO WENT INTO "LIMP MODE", CAUSING VERY HARD SHIFTING AND MUCH DIFFICULTY IN DRIVABILITY. AT ROUGHLY 40,000 MILES AND 3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP, A PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFT LOCK ON THE CAR WAS OBSERVED. AT FIRST, THE PROBLEM WAS LIMITED TO THE KEY BEING STUCK IN THE IGNITION EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS IN PARK. AFTER EJECTING THE KEY WITH THE BUTTON ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN, THE SHIFTER WOULD REMAIN IN PARK. EVENTUALLY, THE PROBLEM ESCALATED TO THE POINT THAT THE SHIFTER COULD BE MOVED FROM PARK TO OTHER GEARS WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP, BUT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPRODUCED AT THE TIME. A FEW MONTHS PASSED AFTER THE ESCALATED PROBLEM WAS FIRST OBSERVED WHERE THE SHIFTER BEHAVED AS INTENDED OR IN THE MANNER WHERE THE KEY WOULD NEED EJECTED BUT THE SHIFTER WOULD REMAIN IN PARK. AFTER A FAILURE IN POWER STEERING SYSTEM RESULTED IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN BY THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE OWNER WITH THE GEARSHIFT BUTTON STUCK "DOWN." SINCE THEN, THE KEY REMAINS STUCK IN THE IGNITION UNLESS THE EJECTION BUTTON IS USED AND THE SHIFTER MOVES FREELY FROM PARK TO ANY OTHER GEAR EVEN WITHOUT A KEY IN THE IGNITION OR A FOOT ON THE BRAKE. *TR

WE PURCHASED A USED 2005 COBALT AND HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. EACH TIME THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN THEY WOULD SAY THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM AND WOULD RETURN THE CAR TO US UNREPAIRED AS IT WOULD DO THE SAME THING AGAIN AND AGAIN AND ON ONE OCCASION IT ALMOST RESULTED IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT WHILE MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER WERE TURNING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND THE STEERING WENT OUT. THANK GOD THE OTHER DRIVERS WERE ALERT AND A NEAR AND POSSIBLY FATAL ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED. THEY TELL US IT CAN BE FIXED BUT NOW THAT IT'S OUT OF FACTORY AND SOMEHOW EVEN EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY HAD US PURCHASE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO LAST UNTIL WE PAID IT OFF HAVE EXPIRED THEY WANT US TO NOW PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AND EVEN $100 TO EVEN LOOK AT THE CAR. 2005 CHEVY COBALT POWER STEERING FAILURE. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IT HAS BEGUN TO HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS. I STARTED TO NOTICE, IN MY COBALT THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD FLASH ACROSS THE SCREEN EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. I DID NOT MIND IT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A CONSTANT THING. I ASKED A TECHNICIAN TO CHECK IT OUT AND THE CAR WAS FINE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER I NOTICE, WHEN I GOT IN MY CAR TO GO TO WORK, THAT MY RADIO WAS SHORT CIRCUITING. I FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET THAT FIXED, THINKING THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE RADIO WAS NOT RELATED, EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING IN THE CAR IS ELECTRICAL. AFTER THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, ON THE INTERSTATE, AND AS I EXITED THE INTERSTATE TO COMMUTE TO MY HOME, "POWER STEERING" FLASH ON MY DASHBOARD AND MY WHEEL JERKED. NOW, I WAS TURNING THE WHEEL AND EXITING THE INTERSTATE MERGING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WHILE EXITING AND MERGING, I WAS GOING ACROSS AN OVERPASS OVER THE INTERSTATE AND CAME LIFE-FLASHING CLOSE TO HITTING THE BRIDGE. THANK GOODNESS I MAINTAINED CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO COAST/BRAKE AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHIFT TO PARK AND RESTART THE CAR EACH TIME. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN JULY 2008 APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES INTO A TRIP. THE SECOND THREE INCIDENTS HAPPENED IN ABOUT A 30 MINUTE TIME SPAN ON THE SAME TRIP IN MID OCTOBER. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AFTER THE OCTOBER INCIDENTS AND THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THEY PERFORMED A COMPUTER UPDATE. I HAD THEM CHECK THE WIRING IN JANUARY 2009 AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I OWN A 2005 CHEVY COBALT 4 DOOR. I'VE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE - FROM IMPROPERLY FITTING AND NOISY HUB CABS TO BROKEN CONTROL ARMS... HOWEVER I AM WRITING ABOUT THE SHIFT CONTROL ASSEMBLY. ON 3-17-06 I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE KEY WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION. THEY REPLACED THE FLOOR SHIFT CONTROL ASSEMBLY. NOW, SINCE 10-20-08, I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM - AGAIN. AND OF COURSE, THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. I FIND IT HARD TO FATHOM THAT THIS PART SHOULD "FAIL" AGAIN IN SUCH A SHORT TIME, IF EVER AGAIN. IT WOULD SEEM THAT INFERIOR PARTS ARE JUST BEING REPLACED WITH MORE INFERIOR PARTS. 1. THERE WERE NO SPECIFIC EVENTS LEADING TO THE FAILURE, JUST NORMAL DRIVING. 2. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ALLOW THE KEY TO TURN COMPLETELY OFF. IN DIAGNOSING PROBLEM, REALIZED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT CONTROL WOULD MOVE THROUGH GEARS WITHOUT THE VEHICLE TURNED ON. 3. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AND THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY AND REQUIRED IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT. 2005 COBALT DOOR AUTOMATIC.. SINCE JUNE-JULY OF 2006, THE AUTOMOBILE HAS REPEATEDLY BEEN TAKEN TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS FOR REPAIR OR CORRECTION DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. CAR PURCHASED ON 3/14/05 FROM RK CHEVROLET. STARTING SEPT. 12, 2006 THE CAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED MALFUNCTIONING. VARIOUS DASH BOARD LIGHTS CAME ON, TICK NOISE FROM THE SHIFTER, POWER STEERING LIGHT AND FAILS, AND THE GAUGES BEGAN TO GO CRAZY! THE CAR ALSO WANTED TO SHUT OFF, AND HAS BOOSTS OF ENERGY. THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED NOVEMBER 2, 2006, JUNE 8, 2007, SEPTEMBER 19, 2007(COLONIAL CHEVROLET), AND OCTOBER 16, 2007 (COLONIAL CHEVROLET). AFTER WE GOT IT BACK FROM COLONIAL, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 2 DAYS LATER. COLONIAL CHEVROLET INDICATED THAT THAT COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY WERE WAITING TO TALK TO GM ABOUT IT! THEY EVEN SUGGESTED INITIATING A BUY BACK. WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH GMAC IN DETROIT ABOUT THE ISSUE AND NO ANSWERS HAVE GIVEN NOR A RESOLUTION. CURRENTLY WE HAVE TO DRIVE A VERY UNSAFE CAR THAT JOLTS, CAN'T TURN, AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT TIMES. WE HAVE BEEN REQUESTING AT LEAST A RENTAL (SAFE CAR) UNTIL THIS PROBLEM CAN BE ADDRESSED AND NO ONE HAS OFFERED THIS IN LUE OF A RESOLUTION. WHEN TRAVELING IN ANY GEAR IN MY BONE STOCK 2005 CHEVY COBALT 2.2 COUPE, IF I ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY THE CLUTCH SLIPS AND THE CAR WONT ACCELERATE AT ALL. IT FEELS LIKE THE PRESSURE PLATE DOESN'T APPLY ENOUGH PRESSURE TO HOLD THE DISC. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO BE REAR ENDED A COUPLE OF TIMES NOW. THE CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 20,000 MILES ON IT SO IT'S STILL FAIRLY NEW AND I AM NOT A FIRST TIMER DRIVING A MANUAL. ALL OF MY VEHICLES HAVE HAD MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT WITH 14445 MILES AND THE VEHICLE HAS LOST POWER WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGES. THE VEHICLE HAS ALL WHEEL DRIVE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRST TIME OCCURRED WHILE PULLING IN TO A TOLL BOOTH. AFTER COMPLETELY SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE, IT RESTARTED 5-10 MINUTES LATER. THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THE DEALER REPLACED THE PCM IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE FAILURE DID NOT REOCCUR AFTER THE PCM WAS REPLACED.

I PURCHASED A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT IN AUGUST OF 2005. IN DECEMBER OF 05 THE CAR WAS HAVING A PROBLEM RELATED TO THE AUTOMATIC SHIFTER AND WAS IN FOR SERVICE. THE SHIFTING UNIT WAS REPLACED, ALSO THE RADIO WAS REPROGRAMMED FOR FLASHING AN ERROR MESSAGE AT THE TIME OF SERVICE. BY FEBRUARY OF 06 THE SHIFTER WAS AGAIN VERY STIFF TO MOVE AND WAS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE GARAGE ADJUSTED THE SHIFTER LINKAGE AND LUBED THE CABLE ASSEMBLY, AT THIS TIME I ALSO HAD A CONCERN WITH THE OPERATION OF THE HEADLIGHTS, CHANGING THEM FROM LOW BEAM TO HIGH BEAM. THE PROBLEM BEING THAT WHEN YOU SWITCH THE LIGHTS THEY GO OUT FOR A BRIEF TIME. THE GARAGE ORDERED A NEW MULTI-CONTROL SWITCH FOR THE CAR. A FEW DAYS AFTER HAVING THE CAR SERVICED FOR THESE PROBLEMS THE CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY AGAIN FROM THE SWITCH CAUSING THE BATTERY TO GO DEAD, AND THE SHIFTER WAS VERY STIFF. THE GARAGE ORDERED AND REPLACED THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY AND DEFECTIVE CYLINDER FOR THE KEY SWITCH. AS OF THE 7TH OF MARCH, 06, I WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS GOING OUT WHEN CHANGING FROM LOW TO HIGH BEAMS, THE CAR IS PRESENTLY IN THE SHOP. I HAVE CONTACTED GM ABOUT MY CONCERNS WITH THE SHIFTER AND THE LIGHTS. AFTER I DID THIS, I RECIEVED A CALL FROM THE GM REPRESENTITIVE THAT I HAD SPOKEN WITH ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER FROM THE GARAGE TOLD HIM THAT THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION FOR THE VEHICLE AND THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *NM

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 CHEVY COBALT SS/SC. I HAVE 5000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE SHIFT LINKAGE HAS FAILED. THE PROBLEM LIES IN FACT THAT CHEVY/GM DOES NOT OFFER A REPLACEMENT PART FOR THIS. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR 3 DAYS AND STILL NO IDEA OF WHEN A PART WILL BE LOCATED AND IF THE PART CAN BE LOCATED. I WAS ABLE TO RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT SAAB USES THE EXACT TRANSMISSION SETUP. SAAB DOES OFFER THIS PART BUT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP WILL NOT PUT OR ATTEMPT TO TRY THE SAAB PART SINCE IT DOES HAVE THE CHEVY PART NUMBER ON IT. AT THIS POINT MY BRAND NEW CAR IS SITTING IN THE STORAGE OF A DEALERSHIP THAT IS HOPING THEY CAN FIND A PART TO FIX THE CAR WITH.
