WHILE DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY, CAR WENT DEAD> HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP. POWER STEERING WENT OUT, BUT AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR IT WAS OK. IT KEEPS HAPPENING OFF AND ON- ON OCCASIONS. I KEPT SMELLING GAS, TOOK IT TO CAR REPAIR SHOP WAS TOLD I COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE, WAS TOLD THE GAS TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED OR WHATEVER THE PART INSIDE THE GAS TANK. NOTE: WHEN THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM ARRIVED I WAS LEAVING GOING TO WORK. I STARTED THE CAR BUT THE STEERING WAS HARD TO TURN SO I PULLED BACK INTO PARKING SPACE AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES-WAS ABLE TO STEER OK. UPON SMELLING GAS THIS WENT ON FOR SERVAL DAYS. I THOUGHT IT WAS FUMES FROM OTHER CARS. I WOULD SMELL GAS WHILE DRIVING IT. ONE DAY AS I PULLED UP TO WORK I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND NOTICED SOMETHING WET NEXT TO MY FRONT TIRE. I COULD SMELL GAS FUMES. I TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP THE NEXT DAY. SHOP TOLD ME THE CAR COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14E021000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 10V073000(STEERING) WERE ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO JEFF JOHNSON CHEVROLET(2533 CARROLLTON PIKE, WOODLAWN, VA 24381) WHERE SHE DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF TO HAVE THE RECALLS REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AS AN UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT DROVE STRAIGHT INTO DITCH AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES DUE TO THE ACCIDENT AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HER FIANC'S HOUSE. SHE IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER TO INFORM THEM OF THE ACCIDENT AND ALSO INFORMED THAT SHE HAD NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SLANTED TO THE RIGHT BY ABOUT ONE TO TWO INCHES UPON RETURN OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT APART OF THE STEERING WHEEL RECALL. THE CONTACT CALLED ANOTHER DEALER,FLOW BUICK-GMC(1945 SKIBO RD, FAYETTEVILLE, NC 28314) WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT SINCE THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN SERVICED, THEY COULD NOT ASSIST HER WITH THE MATTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS THEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT A SENIOR ADVISOR WOULD CONTACT HER ABOUT THE MATTER. THE SENIOR ADVISOR HAD CALLED HER BACK AND INFORMED HER THAT THE RECALL WAS INACTIVE AND THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE INITIAL DEALER TO GET THEIR SIDE OF THE STORY. THE CONTACT HAD YET TO HEAR BACK FROM THE ADVISOR. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 172,000.

1.GAS SMELL - FUEL LEAKS AFTER LEAK FIX STILL SMELL GAS (EVEN AFTER SETTING FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. 2-DOOR LOCK ISSUES-EVEN AFTER FIXED BY GM-NOW WON'T LOCK AT ALL 3.AIR BAGS- GM STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT GET PARTS IN 4.ELECTRONIC ISSUES -START AUTO NOW SHOW-POWER STEERING, HAD CHECKED BY GM WONT ECM WON'T CUMMUNICATE WITH TCM. I HAVE HAD ALL OF THIS CHECKED BY ANTHONY CHEVROLET AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE! STATE THEY CANNOT GET PARTS AND OR NOT WORTH FIXING.

ON 7-20-20 I SPOKE WITH STEPHANIE ( 1-800-222-1020) ON THE NHTSA SITE, WERE I GOT THE PHONE NUMBER. I TOLD HER I ENTERED MY VIN AND FOUND THERE WERE 6 RECALLS ON MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT. I EXPLAINED TO HER ON 7-15-20, I LEFT FOR WORK BUT NOTICED MY POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I WAS AFRAID I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE TURN ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY BECAUSE OF THE STEERING. I WENT AND PURCHASED POWER STEERING FLUID, ONLY TO LEARN THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PUT IT. STEPHANIE AND I LOOKED AT THE RECALLS TOGETHER. WE DISCUSSED THE NUMEROUS RECALLS SHE SAW ALONG WITH ME. SHE SET-UP A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT HERE IN CONWAY, ARK WERE I NOW RESIDE FOR 7-23-20 @ 7:00AM. SUPERIOR DEALERSHIP. I ARRIVED AND (LISA) ASKED IF I HAD AN APPOINTMENT, I SAID YES. I TOLD HER WHAT MY ISSUE WAS AND SHE WENT INTO MY CAR AND PULLED OUT SOMETHING UNDER THE DASH. SHE HAD IN HER HAD SOMETHING SHE SAID WOULD LIGHT UP RED IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE ON A MACHINE IN ORDER TO FIND OUT THE PROBLEMS. SHE THEN TOLD ME THERE WERE THREE RECALLS ON THE CAR BUT THEY ALL HAD BEEN FIXED. AND STATED I WOULD BE CHARGED $ 150.00 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. I EXPLAINED TO HER I HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATIONS PERTAINING TO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. I CLEARLY SAW ON THE NHTSA SITE RECALLS FOR , THE GAS TANK WHICH I HAD TO REPLACE BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING GAS. I REPLACED A FUEL THROTTLE BECAUSE WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY I LOST POWER IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG BECAUSE IT IS SHOWING IT'S OFF, SO I KNOW IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT IT WILL NOT DEPLOY. I BELIEVE THE RECALLS I SAW ON THE SITE WERE LEGIT RECALLS. I'M NOT CERTAIN HOW THEY DISAPPEARED FROM THE SITE WHEN I SHOWED UP FOR MY APPOINTMENT ONLY A FEW DAYS LATER. I WAS TOLD I COULD PAY THE $150 BECAUSE THEIR TECHS HAD TO BE PAID OR GET RID OF THE CAR.

"TAKATA RECALL" ON 3/30/18 I WAS INVOLVED IN A WRECK. I WAS TRAVELING ON A BUSY CITY STREET WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED RED. I STOPPED AND THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME WAS DRIVING A LARGE SUV. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND TRAFFIC BEGAN TO MOVE I STARTED DRIVING. OUT OF NOWHERE WITH NO WARNING, THE DRIVER JUST STOPPED AND MY CAR RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. WE BOTH STAYED IN OUR VEHICLES I CALLED 911. OFFICERS ARRIVED AND EMERGENCY SERVICES. EVEN THOUGH HARDLY ANY DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE SUV, MY CAR SUSTAINED A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE HOOD AND BUMPER OF MY CAR. THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. I THOUGHT MY CAR WAS TOTALED BY LOOKING AT IT. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE MOST OF MY CAR REPAIRED OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE I HAD LIABILITY ONLY AT THE TIME. THE PASSENGER IN FRONT OF ME AFTER GIVING INFORMATION TO THE RESPONDERS WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY, I WAS NOT. I'VE ALSO HAD ANOTHER ACCIDENT WHERE THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY IN 2014. I AM CONCERNED THAT I MIGHT BE IN ANOTHER ACCIDENT THAT COULD BE LIFE-THREATENING AND THE AIRBAGS WON'T WORK. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT MY CONCERNS REGARDING THE AIRBAGS AND NOTHING WAS DONE TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS CHECKED. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE SWITCH CHANGED WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THAT. I HOPE BY SHARING MY EXPERIENCE WITH YOU SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS CHECKED AND GIVE ME A SENSE OF SECURITY WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE.

FOR THE PAST THREE DAYS DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK MY CHEVY COBALT HAS BEEN PUTTING ME IN DANGER. WHEN I START TO BREAK, SOMETIMES THE SYMBOL WITH A LOCK AND KEY, AND AIR BAG LIGHTS WILL TURN ON AND THE CAR STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK AND THE BRAKES WOULD COME UP RESULTING IN THE CAR BEING TURNED OFF WHILE I AM ON DRIVE. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I CANNOT TURN THE WHEEL AND THE BRAKE IS ALSO LOCKED. I GET OUT OF MY CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC TO PUSH IT BY MYSELF THEN JUMP IN IT AND TRY TO START IT. THIS METHOD WORKS SOMETIMES BUT IS DANGEROUS TO NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY OTHERS. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS THE MAIN CAUSE FOR THIS ISSUE HOWEVER I DID SOME RESEARCH AND DID NOT SEE ANY RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. NOW, I CAN'T EVEN KEEP MY HIGH BEAMS IN "ON" POSITION. ONLY IF I HOLD THE SWITCH. I'VE HAD THIS CAR FOR UNDER 3 MONTHS. DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK SOMETIMES WORKS, SOMETIMES DOESN'T. I HAVE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR MANUALLY (SOMETIMES). I FIND THAT ODD. MY LARGEST PROBLEM IS OBVIOUSLY HEADLIGHTS. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN AND CAN'T DRIVE AT NIGHT, EVEN IN AN EMERGENCY.

THE ACTIVATING SWITCH FOR THE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG FAILED AROUND 78,000 MILES. THIS SEAT SWITCH ACTIVATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SAFETY SYSTEM WHEN AN OCCUPANT SITS DOWN IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS TOLD AT THE TIME WE HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL REPAIR DONE TO THE CAR THAT THE ONLY WAY TO REPLACE THE BROKEN SEAT SWITCH WAS TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SEAT COVER. TO DO THIS REQUIRES AN INITIAL OUTLAY OF $150.00 DOLLARS FOR THE PART( THE SWITCH IS WOVEN INTO THE SEAT FABRIC)PLUS LABOR TO INSTALL(PRICE UNKNOWN)AT THE DEALERSHIP. WITHOUT REGARD TO AGE,WEIGHT OR GENDER ANY FRONT SEAT PASSENGER MAY BELIEVE THEY ARE PROTECTED UPON READING THE DASHBOARD 'AIRBAG' SIGN WHEN SITTING IN THE CAR. THE PANEL-MOUNTED INDICATOR FOR THAT AIRBAG IS A LIGHTED DISPLAY WHICH, IN DAYLIGHT, IS HARD TO SEE WITHOUT CUPPING YOUR HAND OVER THE ANNUNCIATOR-OR WAIT UNTIL NIGHTFALL , GET SOMEBODY TO SIT IN THE SEAT, AND THEN CHECK OUT THE DASH LIGHT.

JUST BOUGHT 2006 CHEVY COBALT SS I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE RECALLS I GAVE THEM THE VIN AND OVER THE PHONE THEY SAID THERE IS STILL 3 RECALLS FOR THE CAR I WENT THERE TODAY AND THEY SAID THERE WAS ONLY ONE THEY FIXED IT BUT IT WASN'T THE POWER STEERING HE SAID IT WAS ALREADY FIXED BUT THERE BEEN TIMES THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT ON ITS OWN AND I'M CURIOUS IF THEY ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THAT RECAL. ANOTHER THING WAS THE AIRBAGS WHICH I BELIEVE WAS ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE CAR THE AIRBAG LIGHTS IS ON AND ONCE AGAIN THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT.

MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN TURNING OFF WHILE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING. THIS ABRUPT "TURNING OFF" STARTED OCCURRING EVEN BEFORE THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS CHANGED BY GM BUT NOW IT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. PRIOR TO THE IGNITION SWITCH BEING CHANGE, EACH TIME THE CAR WOULD TURN OFF THE AIRBAG SENSOR WOULD FLASH REPEATEDLY. AFTER THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS CHANGED I NOTIFIED THE DEALER THAT THE AIRBAG SENSOR REMAINED LIT, AND THEY JUST TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A FAULTY SENSOR AND THAT IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT WAS FIXED ON THE IGNITION. THE DEALER ALSO TOLD ME THAT IF I CHOSE TO HAVE IT FIXED, IT WOULD BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. I NEVER TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THAT REPAIR. THIS MONTH I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ALTHOUGH TH ACCIDENT DID OCCUR BECAUSE OF THE CAR TURNING OFF ON ME, I AM CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY THAT DAY AND THAT MY CAR CONTINUES TO TURN OFF ON ME. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SPEED THE VEHICLE IS GOING EITHER, THE VEHICLE TURNS ITSELF OFF. IT'S HAS HAPPENED IN NORMAL TRAFFIC AFTER ATTEMPTING TO CROSS AND INTERSECTION, ON THE HIGHWAY AND EVEN WHILE MAKING A TURN. I REALLY FEEL THIS COULD CAUSE A MAJOR CAR ACCIDENT IF NOT REPAIRED SOON. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE SHOP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED BUT THEY CANNOT FIND WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. ONE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. ANOTHER MECHANIC SAID IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION. I KEEP GETTING CONFLICTING DIAGNOSES.

THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A LACERATION TO THE CHIN. BOTH OCCUPANTS REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.

I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE CHEVY DEALER TO TAKE CARE OF THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL ON NOVEMBER 5, 2014. I GOT MY CAR BACK THE SAME DAY, THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND GAVE ME TWO NEW KEYS. SURPRISE! TWO DAYS LATER ON NOVEMBER 7, 2014 MY CAR AGAIN HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL THAT IT DID BEFORE I TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECALL FIX. HENCE, CHEVY'S "RECALL IGNITION SWITCH FIX" DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS! MY CAR STILL DOES THE FOLLOWING THINGS EVEN AFTER THE IGNITION SWITCH FIX THAT IS SUPPOSED TO SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT ABOUT 32 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I TRAVELED ACROSS FOUR LANES HITTING THE CURB HEAD ON THEN HITTING A CONCRETE FLOWER BED( APPROXIMATE HIT 12-14 INCHES), TRAVELING OVER THIS AGAIN HITTING A CURB IN A PARKING LOT AND THEN THE CAR CAME TO A REST. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE CAR HAS STOPPED RUNNING LIKE THIS. WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED IT IN FEBRUARY 0F 2006 WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OVER REQUIRING A TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE IGNITION HAS BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST 5 TIMES. ABOUT THREE MONTHS INTO OWING IT I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TRYING TO RESTART IT SELF. IT THEN STOPPED AND I ENDED UP IN A DITCH. AGAIN THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. FINALLY, IN 2012 A SCHOOL BUS BACKED INTO THE FRONT OF THE CAR WITH IT RUNNING AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE IGNITON WAS REPLACED ON 6/04/2014 UNDER THE MANDATORY RECALL. WITHIN 3 DAYS THE IGNITION ONCE AGAIN WOULD NOT TURN ON AND THEN WHEN IT DID THE ENGINE DRAGGED AS IF THE BATTERY WAS BAD. THE BATTERY IS ONE YEAR OLD. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM NON-STOP SINCE THE REPLACEMENT PART. I CALLED GRAFF CHEVROLET IN MT. PLEASANT AND I GOT THE STANDARD RESPONSE, "WE CAN"T DUPLICATE IT". AT APPROXIMATELY 7:47AM CST ON AUGUST 7TH 2014, I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN THE ENGINE AND ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS DIED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND SAFELY DRIVE, WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS/OTHER DASH WARNINGS, APPROXIMATELY HALF A MILE BACK HOME. THERE WAS NO WARNING ON THE DASH (IE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) BEFORE THE MASSIVE FAILURE OCCURRED; IT WAS INSTANTLY DEAD. THIS FITS THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE IN THE AFFECTED GM MODELS. I WAS ONE TURN FROM MERGING ON THE FREEWAY. HAD THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED A MINUTE LATER, THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE INJURY/LOSS OF LIFE WAS GREAT. I HAVE BEEN WAITING ON A LIST SINCE APRIL TO GET THE DEFECTED IGNITION SWITCH REPAIRED. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES FOR UPDATES, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD UP TO 800 PEOPLE WERE AHEAD OF ME FOR REPAIRS. WHEN I REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO GM VIA THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL HOTLINE, THEY SUDDENLY FOUND THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR MY CAR. THIS IS SUSPECT TO ME. THEY ARE ALSO CLAIMING THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS NOT IGNITION SWITCH RELATED, BUT THE FACT REMAINS THAT THIS WAS A NEAR-MISS INCIDENT WITH POTENTIAL CATASTROPHIC IMPLICATIONS THAT FITS ALL DESCRIPTIONS OF IGNITION SWITCH FAILURES. I WAS HIT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY CAR, A MALFUNCTIONED CAR WAS SITTING IN THE PASSING LANE OF A MAIN HIGHWAY. A CAR BEHIND ME PUSHED THE CAR INTO THE DRIVERS SIDE CAR HITTING INITIALLY THE DOOR AND BEHIND THE FRONT TIRE WHEEL WELL AND THEN DRAGGED IT ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE CAR AND AROUND THE REAR END. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF ON MY CAR, THIS WAS ON A MAIN HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 65MPH. MY CAR HAS ALSO ISSUES WITH THE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM, I HAVE TO UNPLUG THE BATTERY FOR 10 MINUTES TO RESET IT. ALSO HAVE NOW THE ECM COMPUTER HAS ISSUES AND NEEDS REPLACED. MY CAR MILEAGE IS NOT QUITE 170,000 MILEAGES, I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN PENNSYLVANIA. THIS VEHICLE HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED FOR THE STEERING RECALL, AND THAT LASTED APPROXIMATELY 5,000 MILES AND THE STEERING DOES THE SAME THING, SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS BEING CRANKING WHEN TURNING THE CAR. ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO I STARTED TO GET A THUMPING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF THE 2006 COBALT. I ASKED A MECHANIC WHAT IT COULD BE AND THEY GAVE ME A COUPLE THINGS IT MIGHT BE ALSO GAVE ME IDEA ON COST. BEING A SINGLE MOM OF TWO AND THE THUMPING WAS NOT TO BAD I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO REPAIR. AS TIME WENT ON GOT LOUDER AND WORSE. SO, I BROUGHT IT IN TO HAVE PROBLEM FIXED IT WAS THE LOWER TIE ARMS AND SOMETHING ELSE WENT BAD AND COST ME ALMOST $1000 TO FIX. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND MANY 2006 COBALT OWNERS SAY THEY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE BUT WAS TOLD BY GM WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE SO THEY WERE NOT RECALLING CAR IT WAS OUR PROBLEM. I HAVE NOTICED THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH SOMETIME DIM SO LOW YOU CAN NOT SEE THEM THEN THEY WILL BRIGHTEN AGAIN EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE BATTERY. OVER THIS WINTER I STARTED TO GET A HUMMING IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND ASKED MY MECHANIC TO LOOK HE TOLD ME I HAVE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING THEY COULD NOT FIX. I GOT THE RECALL ABOUT THE IGNITION SWITCH AND WAS DOING AS THEY SAID AND ONLY DRIVING WITH KEY AND NOTHING ELSE. BUT NOW EVERY TIME I STOPPED I WAS CHECKING KEY TO MAKE SURE IT WAS IN PLACE AND A FEW TIMES IT HAD MOVED SLIGHTLY BUT DID NOT KICK IT OUT OF THE ON POSITION. IF I HAD NOT CHECKED IT, IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE WITH ALL THE POT HOLES. THEN ON APRIL 6TH 2014 ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK (WHICH IS 24 MILES AWAY FROM HOME). WHEN I WAS TURNING TO GO ON THE HIGHWAY THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HUMMING AGAIN(I HAD NO CLUE THAT THERE WAS ANY PROBLEMS WITH STEERING COLUMNS AT THIS POINT) I GOT ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND THE DASH LIGHT CAME ON AND A DINGING SOUND STARTED AND I HAD TO FIGHT, THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN TURNED IT ON TO SEE IF IT STOPPED AND WAS ABLE TO GET HOME. LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS WHERE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND FOUND TONS OF 2006 COBALT OWNERS HAVING ISSUE. THAT IS WHEN I SAW THEY ARE RECALLING 2010'S FOR IT NOT 2006.

THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED 6 MORE TIMES, RESULTING IN A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP. EACH TIME, THE PROBLEM WAS BLAMED ON THE POWER CONTROL MODULE. THE THIRD INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE HIS SON WAS DRIVING ON A CURVY MOUNTAIN, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THERE WAS NO STEERING ABILITY. IT IS A TWO LANE ROAD THAT FOR THE MOST PART GOES THROUGH THE RESIDENTIAL AREA OF THE CITY THAT WE LIVE IN AS WELL AS THE NEIGHBORING CITY. THE SPEED LIMIT PREDOMINATELY IS 35 MPH. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING TO THE SOUTH IN WHICH THE ROADWAY PROCEEDS DOWN A SHORT, MILD DOWNGRADE IN TO A NATURAL WASH OR STREAM BED AND THEN BACK UP AN UPGRADE TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF TOWN AND THE NEIGHBORING CITY. MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING DOWNHILL WHEN SUDDENLY SHE LOST POWER TO THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP. ON 12/18/13 I BEGAN TO NOTICE A "HUMMING" NOISE COMING FROM THE CAR. THE HUMMING NOISE GOT INCREASINGLY WORSE OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AT THE SAME TIME I NOTICED THE "SERVICE AIRBAG" SIGN CAME ON AND THE RADIO BEGAN FLASH AND ATTEMPTED TO EJECT A CD WITHOUT ME MANUALLY PUSHING THE BUTTON OR CD BEING INSIDE IT. THE "HUMMING" NOISE PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO STIFFEN UP. AFTER 2 WEEKS OF THE PROBLEM BECOMING INCREASINGLY WORSE, I DECIDED TO HAVE MY MECHANIC DO A COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. HE BELIEVED THAT THE DIAGNOSIS IS THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING AND STATED THAT AFTER MUCH RESEARCH THE COST WOULD BE $900+ BECAUSE THE REPAIRS WOULD HAVE TO BE BY A CERTIFIED GM AND PARTS WOULD HAVE TO BE SPECIALLY ORDERED DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE WAY THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. HE ALSO STATED THAT APPARENTLY THIS PROBLEM IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR MAKE/MODEL CAR AND REGRETFULLY WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR IT. I AM A SINGLE MOM AND VALUE ME AND MY CHILD'S SAFETY BUT AT THIS TIME THE NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE DUE TO THE OBSCENE AMOUNT OF MONEY IN QUESTION TO REPAIR IT AND ONGOING FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS. I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT WHEN I WAS TAKING A FRIEND TO THE AIRPORT. I WAS ON I-495 N IN THE LANE LEADING TO THE EXIT THAT TAKES YOU TO THE AIRPORT TOLL ROAD. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN. HOPING TO COAST DOWN THE EXIT AND PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO VEER THE CAR LEFT. THE CAR KEPT GOING STRAIGHT. BRAKES FAILED. HIT ANOTHER CAR AT STOP LIGHT. CAR SLOWED BUT WOULD NOT STOP. FELT ABS KICK IN BUT BRAKES ONLY SLOWED CAR DOWN. LESS THAN 5 MPH. NO AIB BAG INFLATION. CAR WAS A LOANER FROM DEALER, WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING WORKED ON. HAD CAR TOWED BACK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE AND I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT BRAKES DON'T WORK WHEN YOU USE THEM.*AK
