Power steering light came on now I have no speedometer and it will not shift right
"TAKATA RECALL" ON 3/30/18 I WAS INVOLVED IN A WRECK. I WAS TRAVELING ON A BUSY CITY STREET WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED RED. I STOPPED AND THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME WAS DRIVING A LARGE SUV. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND TRAFFIC BEGAN TO MOVE I STARTED DRIVING. OUT OF NOWHERE WITH NO WARNING, THE DRIVER JUST STOPPED AND MY CAR RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. WE BOTH STAYED IN OUR VEHICLES I CALLED 911. OFFICERS ARRIVED AND EMERGENCY SERVICES. EVEN THOUGH HARDLY ANY DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE SUV, MY CAR SUSTAINED A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE HOOD AND BUMPER OF MY CAR. THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. I THOUGHT MY CAR WAS TOTALED BY LOOKING AT IT. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE MOST OF MY CAR REPAIRED OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE I HAD LIABILITY ONLY AT THE TIME. THE PASSENGER IN FRONT OF ME AFTER GIVING INFORMATION TO THE RESPONDERS WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY, I WAS NOT. I'VE ALSO HAD ANOTHER ACCIDENT WHERE THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY IN 2014. I AM CONCERNED THAT I MIGHT BE IN ANOTHER ACCIDENT THAT COULD BE LIFE-THREATENING AND THE AIRBAGS WON'T WORK. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT MY CONCERNS REGARDING THE AIRBAGS AND NOTHING WAS DONE TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS CHECKED. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE SWITCH CHANGED WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THAT. I HOPE BY SHARING MY EXPERIENCE WITH YOU SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS CHECKED AND GIVE ME A SENSE OF SECURITY WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE.

MY PROBLEMS ARE CAME ABOUT WITH THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ON THIS VEHICLE AS I HAVE SEARCHED AND FOUND THE PROBLEM TOO BE VERY COMMON. FOUND THAT IT HAS BEEN WIDELY RECALLED INCLUDING MY MODEL YEAR WITH NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TOO THE NHTSA. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS GETTING READY TOO GO TO A DOCTORS APPOINTMENT, THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ON THE DASHBOARD, EVERYTHING SEEMED TOO BE WORKING EXCEPT THE SPEEDOMETER AND IT DROVE FINE. ON THE WAY BACK HOME HOWEVER THE CAR WOULD NO SHIFT PAST FIRST GEAR. I TOOK IT TOO A MECHANIC THAT LIVES NEXT TOO ME. HE SAID THE WIRING HARNESS WAS BAD, REPLACED IT, GOT IT BACK. DROVE FINE WITH NO PROBLEMS FOR THREE WEEKS, EVEN THE DRIVER FRONT BLINKER WAS WORKING WHICH HAD NEVER WORKED SINCE I GOT THE CAR BACK IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR. THEN AFTER THE THREE WEEKS THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME BACK ON AND ALL THE SAME SYMPTOMS ARE BACK, NO SPEEDOMETER, HARD SHIFTING IF ANY, IT EVEN CAUSED THE ENGINE LIGHT TOO COME ON THIS TIME WHICH AN AUTO PARTS STORE DETERMINED TOO BE A RANDOM MISFIRE. I CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND IT WENT OFF. MY THEORY IS THAT THE TCM IS NOT GROUNDED CORRECTLY TOO HANDLE THIS AND SHORTS OUT AS I HAVE FOUND THAT OTHERS HAVE GROUNDED THE TCM AND IT HAS FIXED ALL THE PROBLEMS TOO THEIR CLAIM. I SEARCHED RECALLS ON MY CAR USING THE VIN AND MY CAR IS NOT LISTED ON IT AND SINCE THIS HAS BEEN RECURRING AND I'VE HAD ALL THE PROBLEMS EVERYONE ELSE HAS NOTED I FEEL THAT IS A GREAT CONCERN. THE MESSAGE AND ALL THE EFFECTS HAPPEN AS SOON AS I START THE CAR IF IT'S GOING TOO HAPPEN (SO FAR). IT FIRST HAPPENED ON THE DATE INDICATED AND THEN AGAIN ON 11/15/2016.

THIS LAST YEAR THE CAR WILL NOW UPON STARTING THE DISPLAY WILL READ POWER STEERING, SECURITY SYSTEM LOCKED THIS CAR DOES NOT HAVE A SECURITY SYSTEM, THE GAUGES GO HAYWIRE CAR DINGS LOW FUEL, WHEN TRYING TO MOVE THE CAR SHIFTS VERY HARD, BRAKE PEDAL HARD TO PUSH, CAR SURGES AND CHUGS WHEN STOPPED.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER CAR A 2006 CHEVY COBALT LS ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS TURNED ON AS IF IT WAS BEING TURNED ON FROM A COLD START. THE CAR STARTED TO BUCKLE IN THE MESSAGE BOARD STARTED TO SAY POWER STEERING. SHE LOST POWER STEERING AND HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP. I CHECKED THE CAR THAT AFTERNOON AND NOTHING SEEMED FINE THEN ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON IT DID THE SAME THING TO ME. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC TO BE SCANNED AND THE CODE U0073 POPPED UP WHICH IS THE CONTROL MODULE BUS ( COMMUNICATION BUSS WAS OFF). THE TRANSMISSION HAS NOT BEEN SHIFTING RIGHT, HARD, ROUGH SHIFTS ARE BEING DONE. THE IDLE DROPS AND RAISES AUTOMATICALLY. MY DOOR LOCK FOR HE DRIVER SIDE DOES NOT OPEN AS WELL. ONE OF THE ISSUES THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL HAS IS THAT THE CAR TURNS OFF. THE CAR. TURNS. OFF. I DON'T KNOW WHY AND I DON'T KNOW HOW. I JUST KNOW, THE CAR TURNS OFF. THIS HAS BEEN A DAILY BATTLE FOR ME. IT STARTED A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS RELEASED AND CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. I WAS DRIVING ACROSS AN INTERSECTION, THE LIGHT JUST TURNED GREEN, A FEW CARS IN FRONT OF ME. I PRESS THE GAS SLIGHTLY & MY CAR TURNS OFF. I WASN'T EVEN GOING 10 MPH. I WASN'T EVEN GOING MORE THAN 5! ANOTHER INCIDENT A FEW DAYS PRIOR, I WAS COMING TO ANOTHER INTERSECTION AND ANOTHER CAR IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WAS MAKING A LEFT SO HE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT GOING SO FAST THAT I COULD'VE STOPPED AND HE COULD'VE PASSED. JUST AS I WAS APPROACHING THE LINES TO CROSS INTO THE INTERSECTION, MY CAR TURNED OFF AGAIN. MY CAR IS CONSTANTLY TURNING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THANKFULLY IT'S TRAFFIC SO IT'S GOING SLOW BUT IT HAS HAPPENED THAT MY CAR WILL JUST TURN OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF ME ACTUALLY DRIVING! THERE HAVE BEEN MANY TIMES THAT I AM TRYING TO MAKE A TURN AND MY CAR TURNS OFF. MID TURN! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET.DO YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THAT IS? I CALLED BACK AND THE GUY THAT ANSWERED THE PHONE TOLD ME TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY AND WAIT 15 MINUTES, THEN HOOK IT BACK UP. NOT ONLY DID IT NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT BY UNHOOKING THE BATTERY THE ANTI-THEFT LOCKED MY RADIO. WHEN I CALLED BACK THE THIRD TIME THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME I NEEDED TO BRING THE CAR IN AND HAVE THEM RESET IT FOR 300$. BEING AS THOUGHT I JUST SPENT 300$ ON THE BCM I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY. SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN MAY OF 2011 I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. IN MARCH OF 2012 MY FUEL PUMP WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING DUE TO A RECALL FROM SEVERAL YEARS EARLIER, WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT WASN'T REPLACED BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR ESPECIALLY IF I BOUGHT IF FROM A DEALERSHIP. IN JANUARY OF 2013 MY GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY WENT OUT LUCKILY AFTER I WAS DONE DRIVING AND IN THE PROCESS OF PARKING WHICH RESULTED IN MY KEYS GETTING LOCKED IN THE IGNITION. A MONTH LATER MY SWITCH BOARD STOPPED WORKING IN MY STEERING WHEEL WHICH TURNS OFF MY SIGNALS WHEN I TURN AND MY KEYS STILL OCCASIONALLY GET LOCKED IN MY IGNITION. MY O2 SENSOR JUST WENT OUT, SHORTLY AFTER I GOT THE CAR I LEARNED ONE OF MY VALVE COVERS IS LEAKING OIL, AND I JUST REPLACED MY IGNITION COIL PACK! I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANY LONGER ESPECIALLY WITH THE NEW RECALL ABOUT THE IGNITION. THIS CAR IS A HAZARD TO ANYONE DRIVING IT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS MANY ISSUES WHEN I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR THREE YEARS. I BELIEVE GM SHOULD RECALL THE WHOLE CAR. I TRIED TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP IN FEBRUARY TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE RECALL AND THEY SENT ME AWAY AND SAID TO WAIT TO RECEIVE SOMETHING IN THE MAIL TO SEE IF MY CAR QUALIFIES. SERIOUSLY??? I'M NOT SURE WHAT ACTIONS I SHOULD TAKE TO ENSURE MY SAFETY. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THIS CAR THAT HAS EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD FAILING ALL AT ONCE! WHEN MY DAUGHTER EXITED HER CAR SHE GRABBED HER BACKPACK FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT. ONE OF THE STRAPS FROM THE BACKPACK HOOKED AROUND THE SHIFTER AND MOVED IT TO NEUTRAL. FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS NOW MY KEY HAS BEEN GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION AT THE ACC POINT. IT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO TURN PAST THAT POINT. I HAVE FOUND THE LITTLE PLUNGER TO REMOVE MY KEYS IN THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN. THE SECOND ISSUE THAT ARISES WITH THIS IS THAT MY GEARSHIFTER MOVES WHEN THE CAR IS OFF. THIS IS A HAZARD AS ONE DAY THE SHIFTER GOT SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR AND STARTED TO ROLL AWAY. ON FEBRUARY 26, 2010 AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT THE POWER STEERING QUIT FUNCTIONING. I COULD NOT STEER THE CAR. THE MESSAGE "POWER STEERING" APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED HE RECEIVED COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER COBALT OWNERS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. ON 2/28/10 I CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. I ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND TOLD THE REPRESENTATIVE WHAT I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC. THE CHEVY REPRESENTATIVE SAID THERE WASN'T A RECALL AT THE TIME. I TOLD THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I DID NOT WANT MY RELATIVES TO HAVE TO SUE THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I HAD DIED DUE TO THE POWER STEERING FAILING WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY COBALT. THE REPRESENTATIVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH A LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO INSPECT THE PROBLEM AND SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A DIAGNOSTICS FEE. ON 3/2/10 THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN AS I WAS DRIVING. FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT. COINCIDENTALLY, WHEN I WENT HOME AND TURNED ON THE TELEVISION I SAW ON THE EVENING NEWS THAT CHEVY COBALTS WERE BEING RECALLED FOR POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. I AM LEARY OF CHEVY DEALERSHIPS. I PURCHASED MY USED 2006 COBALT IN 2008. IT HAD 36,000 MILES ON IT. SOON AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR I NOTICED THE ENGINE KEPT OVERHEATING TO OVER 240 DEGREES. I TOOK MY CAR TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES ABOUT THE ENGINE CONSTANTLY OVERHEATING. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO THE PLASTIC RADIATOR OVERFLOW BOTTLE LEAKING WHEN IT EXPANDED WHEN WARM. THEY REPLACED THE PLASTICE BOTTLE BUT THE CAR KEPT OVERHEATING. OUT OF FRUSTRATION I TOOK MY CAR TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP. THE OTHER REPAIR SHOP DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE OVERHEATED DUE TO A CRACKED MANIFOLD. THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP FAILED TO IDENTIFY THIS AFTER THREE VISITS. I PULLED OFF THE NEAREST EXIT AND HAD TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT, I PULLED AWAY FROM THE RED LIGHT AND THE ENGINE SCREAMED AT ME AS I CHANGED GEARS. I GOT THE VEHICLE SAFELY IN A PARKING LOT AND I COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING AND I REALIZED IT WAS MY CLUTCH, THE GEARS WERE CHANGING FINE AND SINCE I HAVE DRIVEN STANDARD TRANSMISSIONS FOR 15 YEARS AND KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL AND I DO NOT RIDE THE CLUTCH I THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE A HYDRAULIC ISSUE OR SOMETHING BROKEN IN THE GEAR BOX OR CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT AT SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY SAID THE CLUTCH SHOULDN'T BE BURNT OUT SINCE IT IS AN 06 AND HAS ONLY 48K MILES ON IT AND THEY CALLED GM TO TRY TO GET THEM TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE THEY SAY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I BOUGHT DOESN'T COVER A CLUTCH.
