FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS A GAINING SMELL OF FUEL HAS BEEN SMELLED IN THE VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN NOTICED THAT WHEN DRIVING, THERE IS A "PEEING" OF GAS OUT OF MY CAR FROM UNDER THE GAS TANK. IT DOES NOT LEAK AS BAD WHILE IN PARK. AFTER SOME INITIAL DIAGNOSING, THERE IS A FUEL SYSTEM ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED ON MANY CHEVY COBALTS, BUT NOT MINE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A FEW DAYS AFTER THE REPAIRS WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT VEERED TO THE LEFT INTO A DITCH. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LEFT TURNING SIGNAL DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND REMAINED ON AFTER TURNING. MY 2007 COBALT FIRST SHOWED SIGNS OF LEAKING FUEL IN THE SUMMER OF 2014. I TOOK IT TO GET INSPECTED AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED MY FUEL LINE PURGE SOLENOID REPLACED. I DID SO, BUT THE LEAKING DID NOT STOP. THEN, ON 30 DECEMBER 2014 I GOT IT REINSPECTED AND WAS TOLD THERE IS ACTUALLY A CRACK IN MY FUEL TANK AND THAT THE TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL FOR MY MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE, BUT IT IS ONLY FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED IN CERTAIN STATES. AFTER DRIVING MY CAR IT HAD A STRONG SMELL OF GAS SO I PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND FOUND A PUDDLE OF GAS IN FRONT OF THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND SAW THAT THE GAS LINE COMING FROM THE FUEL FILTER WAS CORRODED AND LEAKING FROM A STRAP. I WAS VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE THE EXHAUST IS ABOUT 2 INCHES AWAY FROM THIS FUEL LEAK. MY FUEL EFFICIENCY WENT FROM 34MPG HIGHWAY TO 26MPG HIGHWAY SO I KNOW I WAS LEAKING FUEL WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK MY COBALT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT IT WILL COST 750.00 TO FIX THE GAS LINE. MY FLEX TUBE ON THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ALSO BROKE AROUND 130000 MILES. LIGHTS ON INTERIOR OF CAR DASHBOARD GOES ON AND OFF. PROBLEM STILL HAPPENING TODAY AND THE TSM WAS REPLACED AS WELL, AS THEY ALWAYS SAY THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NEVER CAME ON AT ANYTIME THE PROBLEM HAPPENED. IT HAPPENS AFTER CAR IS DRIVEN AND HEATED UP. ONLY HAPPENED WHEN LONG TRIP OVER 50 MILES, NOW SINCE IGNITION HAS BEEN CHANGED ON CALL BACK. PROBLEMS HAS WORSENED LIGHTS ON AND OFF, TRANSMISSION HARD SHIFT WHEN DRIVING SHORT TRIPS AS WELL AS A CONSTANT VIBRATION. KNOCKING COMING FROM GAS TANK SIDE OF CAR WAS MAINLY DURING COOLER WEATHER NOW HAPPENED WHEN DAY WAS ABOVE 90 DEGREES. SO I CALLED AAA TO TOW MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR INVESTIGATE, THEY ASK ME FOR A CHECKING FEE OF $300 AND TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE CHANGED THE PART, IT WILL BE OTHER PROBLEM. SO I SEARCHED THE INTERNET THERE IS MORE RECALL ON THAT MODEL ON THE FUEL PUMP AND OTHER, BUT THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE FOR ME. SO I CALLED GM, THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY CAR, I DON'T KNOW WHY? INFORMATION I SEARCHED FROM THE INTERNET SAID THAT THE WRONG COMPUTER PROGRAM, CONNECTION, CODED KEYS ANTI-THEFT FUNCTION WILL AFFECT THE CAR FROM STARTING. STARTED SMELLING A STRONG ODOR OF GAS INSIDE AND OUT OF MY CAR TO WHERE I WOULD SMELL OF GAS WHEN I DROVE MY CAR, LOOKED ON LINE FOR ANY PROBLEMS CONCERNING THIS ISSUE AND SAW THAT THEIR HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP IN 2012 I BELIEVE IT WAS, ANYWAY I DID NOT RECEIVE A NOTICE FOR CALLED GM EXPLAINED WHAT WAS GOING ON THEY MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED WHICH IT WAS WELL, A DAY IN A HALF LATER MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHICH IT HASN'T IN THE PAST I TRY TO CALL GM NUMEROUS TIMES AND LEAVE MESSAGES NO ONE RETURNS MY CALLS. I TAKE IT BACK TO DEALER THEY PUT IT ON MACHINE COME OUT SAY YOUR TANK IS FILLING UP WITH A VAPOR YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO LEAVE IT WE HAVE TO REMOVE THE TANK. I GET A CALL COUPLE DAYS LATER THEY REPLACED MY RECALLED IGNITION SWITCH BUT MY GAS TANK HAS A CRACK. I GO UP THERE WITH MY SISTER AND AFTER LENGTHY DISCUSSION I WAS TOLD THAT THE CRACK WAS A DEFECT ON THE MANUFACTURER END,IT'S UP TO ME TO GET IT FIXED SO, I POINT BLANK ASKED SHOULDN'T THEY BE RECALLED IF IT'S A DEFECT AND I WAS TOLD YES THEY SHOULD BUT THEY WON'T BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO MUCH GOING ON RIGHT NOW WITH EVERYTHING ELSE. THE CAR HAD THE FUEL MODULE AND TANK REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2012 THEY SAID IT WAS NOT A RECALL AND COVERED IT UNDER MY POWERTRAIN 3 DAYS BEFORE IT WENT OUT. I JUST GOT THE CAR BACK FROM THE IGNITION RECALL AND THE AIR BAG ON PASSENGER DOESN'T WORK THEY CLAIM ITS SOMETHING DIFFERENT, THE GAS IS DRAINING FROM THE CAR AGAIN, IT SMELLS LIKE GAS. 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE CURRENT ACTIONS BEING TAKEN TO REMEDY THE SITUATION WERE INADEQUATE AT BEST. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS FROM BEGINNING. WE NEVER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE. NOT TWO MONTHS AFTER HAVING PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING STARTED TO FAIL (OUR SON WAS A LITTLE OVER 2-1/2 YEARS OLD. I HAD TO PULL OVER AS FAST AS I COULD TO KEEP US FROM CRASHING. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE BY NOTICE ONLY BY THE FAILURE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN AND SERVICED. HENCE BULLETIN #10023 (POWER STEERING MOTOR) PERFORMED ON 5/25/2010. PROBLEM 2 I HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE: THE MECHANIC TOLD ME WHERE I GET MY OIL CHANGED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON COBALT FOR THAT PROBLEM, SO I RESEARCHED IT ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE WAS "NO RECALL" SO TO SPEAK ON MY VIN#- -MY MOTHER WAS TOLD THERE WAS AGAIN NO RECALL THAT MATCHED MY VIN NUMBER THE CHEVY COBALT HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING GAS. ADDITIONALLY, THE FUEL INJECTOR WAS REPLACED AS WELL BECAUSE IT'S ALSO PART OF THAT RECALL AND THE ONE THAT WAS ON THE CAR WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING. ON TO THE THIRD RECALL- LOW THE CURRENT RECALL, 13454, IS NOW SHOWING FOR YOUR VIN AND WE ARE SENDING OUT NOTICES THIS WEEK WITH MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION. MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION IN APRIL 2007, AT APPROX. 50,000 MILES MY CAR STARTED TO MISS, THEN BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND LUNGE AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP. WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO DEALER WHERE PURCHASED, WE WERE THEN SENT ON "WILD GOOSE CHASE," FIRST WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A FUEL PEDAL SENSOR, NXT THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER, FOLLOWED BY THE WIRING HARNESS, THIS HOWEVER, DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, WE TOOK IT BACK FOR A FOURTH TIME AND THE ENDED UP REBUILDING THE HEAD ON THE MOTOR, CAR HAS NOT RAN CORRECTLY EVER SINCE. WE TRIED TO FILE A LEMON LAW CLAIM BUT NEEDED FOUR RECEIPTS TO PROVE WARRANTY WORK, WE HAD THREE AND AFTER THE FOURTH WHEN PICKED UP CAR THE DEALER WOULD NOT RELEASE FOURTH, THAT WAS A YEAR AGO. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR A RECALL TO REPLACE FUEL MODULE FOR FUEL ODOR? WELL THE MODULE WAS REPLACED WITH THE NEW MODULE KIT(3.107). BEFORE THIS REPLACEMENT WE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AND FUEL ODOR/FUEL GAUGE. NOW THAT WE HAD THE RECALL DOWN THERE IS A STRONG FUEL ODOR AND THE GAS GAUGE WILL READ FULL AT TIMES AND WHEN THE CAR IS SHUT OFF AND TURNED BACK ON AFTER DRIVER .7 MILES THE GAUGE WILL SAY ITS ONLY GOT A 1/4 TANK OF GAS AND WE SWITCH THE CAR ON AND OFF A FEW TIMES AND IT WILL FINALLY GO BACK TO FULL BUT AFTER DRIVING IT ABOUT 3 MILES THE GAUGE WILL GO BACK DOWN TO A 1/4 TANK AND WE HAVE TO STOP AND CYCLE THE KEY ON AND OFF AT LEAST 4 TIMES FOR IT TO GIVE A SOMEWHAT ACCURATE READING BUT AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES THE GAUGE WILL GO TO EMPTY. EVEN WHEN THE TANK IS EMPTY THE GAUGE WILL SAY THERE'S A HALF TANK OF GAS, I HAVE EVEN GOT STUCK MULTIPLE TIMES THINKING THERE WAS GAS IN THE CAR. ANYWAY POINT BEING THAT THIS MODULE KIT 3.107 GAVE ME ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF WHY IT WAS BEING RECALLED AND MESSED UP MY FUEL GAUGE AND THE DEALER REFUSES TO FIX IT AS WARRANTY SO BECAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE ISN'T PART OF THE RECALL. SO I FURTHER INVESTIGATED ON MULTIPLE ONLINE FORUMS AND IT SEEMS EVERYONE THAT GETS THIS RECALL DOWN HAS HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE AND A FUEL ODOR THEY DIDN'T HAVE BEFORE THE RECALL. MY DAUGHTER'S CAR (2007 CHEVY COBALT LT, TITLED IN MY NAME) DEVELOPED A STRONG FUEL ODOR. THE WARANTY HAD RECENTLY EXPIRED IN DECEMBER. THE DEALERSHIP HAD RECENTLY MADE A WARRANTY REPAIR AND A RECALL REPAIR TO THE VEHICLE 11/2011, BUT WAS NOT OPEN ON A SATURDAY. A LOCAL SHOP IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM, AND I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND GM TO SEE IF THEY WOULD FIX BASED ON A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM & MODEL #, NHTSA # 09V419000. THEY REFUSED BASED A NC SALVAGE TITLE ON THE CAR THAT WAS DUE TO A REPLACED BUMPER, 3 YEARS AGO, WHICH HAD NO IMPACT ON THE FUEL SYSTEM. REMEMBER THEY HAD JUST DONE WARRANTY WORK 2 MONTHS AGO, BUT SAID THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, ALTHOUGH THE GM REP SAID THE WARRANTY HAD BEEN EXTENDED FOR 10 YEARS FOR THIS PROBLEM AS A PART OF A SETTLEMENT, BUT SAID THE SALVAGE TITLE DID NOT WARRANT REPAIR. WHEN PUSHED ABOUT THE PREVIOUS WORK THEY HAD PERFORMED, THE RECALL ON RECORD, AND WHY DID THEY NOT FIX IT WHEN THEY FIXED A STEERING RECALL; HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS WORKING FINE AND DID NOT SHOW THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL AT THE TIME. MY EXACT SAME POINT!!! THE SALVAGE TITLE/BUMPER HAD NO IMPACT TO THE FUEL SYSTEM FOR 3 YEARS; AND THEIR (GM) RESPONSIBILITY IN MEETING A NHTSA RECALL. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD EVEN THOUGH THEIR WAS A SPECIAL COVERAGE FOR MY STATE THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE LEAK. THIS IS A DANGEROUS LEAK DUE TO A FAULTY PLASTIC PART. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED FOR RECALL #09226 TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP MODULE PARTS#19168894W-MODULE-KI. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE FUEL PUMP, GAUGE AND ALARM ARE SHOWING BELOW RED AND LOW FUEL LEVEL. WHEN FUEL WAS ADDED, THE GAUGE DID NOT MOVE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS ADVISED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE CONTACT ONLY USE CHEVRON FUEL. AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO INCORRECTLY SHOW A LOW FUEL LEVEL. THE MANUFACTURER AND SERVICE MANAGER WERE CALLED NUMEROUS TIMES BUT HAD NOT RETURNED THE CALLS MADE BY THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,143.

WE OWN 2007 COBALT OUR DAUGHTER DRIVES. SHE STARTED COMPLAINING IN SEP '09 OF A GAS SMELL BUT WE REALLY DIDN'T PAY HER ANY MIND. THEN, ABOUT 6 WKS. AGO WHEN SHE HAD TO DRIVE ME TO AN APPT. THEN, I CALLED A DEALER IN FRISCO,TX WHERE MY DAUGHTER LIVES. THE MECHANIC DEPT. LOOKED UP HER VIN & SAID "NO RECALL FOR THAT VIN # BUT YOU HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY WE CAN FIX IT." SO, AT NO CHARGE IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF. THEN, A FEW WEEKS LATER I GET A RECALL FOR THE MRA TO BE REPLACED AS IT CAN BE DANGEROUS?! LETTER STATES THAT IF THERE IS A CRACK, FUEL CAN LEAK & THERE COULD BE A FIRE?! BESIDES THE RECALL YOU HAVE JUST ISSUED FOR THE POWER STEERING "WHY DON'T YOU MAKE SURE RECALLS ARE SENT OUT IN A TIMELY MANNER FOR MRA PARTS IN COBALT'S AS WELL ESPECIALLY AS DANGEROUS AS IT CAN BE!!! MY STEPBROTHER HAD TWO CHEVY COBALTS. THE FIRST ONE HE WRECKED ON A COUNTRY ROAD WHERE HE SKIDDED ON GRAVEL, HIS CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. FORTUNATELY, HE WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. HE REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER COBALT. IN JANUARY 2009 HE HAD ANOTHER WRECK, SINGLE CAR. HIS CAR HIT A POLE AND IMMEDIATELY BROKE OUT IN FLAMES. UNFORTUNATELY FOR MY FAMILY HE WAS NOT ABLE TO GET OUT, HE COULDN'T GET HIS SEAT BELT UNDONE AND THE FLAMES WERE MELTING THE INTERIOR CAUSING CAUSTIC FLAMES. THE POLICEMAN BROKE OUT THE BACK WINDOW TO GET HIM OUT AND THE POLICEMAN WAS HOSPITALIZED FROM SMOKE INHALATION MY BROTHER DIDN'T MAKE IT, HE DIED. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE CHECKED OUT. I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE AND I CALLED MISSION CHEVROLET IN EL PASO TX TO SCHEDULE AND APPOINTMENT AS PER THE RECALL NOTICE, I SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HE TOLD ME THAT I COULD NOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT SINCE HE DID NOT ANTICIPATE HAVING PARTS AVAILABLE BECAUSE HE WAS ONLY RECEIVING 15 PARTS AND THEY WOULD BE USED FOR FIRST COME FIRST SERVE CUSTOMERS. I WORK FULL TIME AND AM A DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP SO I HAVE TO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AND ACCORDING TO HIM THE RECALL CHECK WOULD REQUIRE MY LEAVING CAR FOR THE DAY. ALL OF WHICH IS QUITE DIFFERENT TO WHAT WAS DESCRIBED ON THE RECALL NOTICE OF A 15 MINUTE CHECK AND AN HOUR AND A HALF REPLACEMENT TIME IF NECESSARY. YESTERDAY I FILLED UP THE CAR WITH GAS AND I SMELLED THE GASOLINE. I CHECKED OUT MY CAR AND I FOUND OUT THAT MY GAS TANK WAS LEAKING FROM THE CONNECTOR THAT CONNECTS THE GAS TANK TO THE RUBBER HOSE THAT LEADS TO THE METAL PIPE THAT YOU INSERT GAS FROM. THIS HAPPENED TWO TIMES AFTER FILLING UP COMPLETELY. IT APPEARS THAT THE WELD PROCESS THAT SEALS THE CONNECTOR TO THE GAS TANK WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND STARTED TO CRACK. TODAY I HAD TO REPLACE MY GAS TANK FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I DON'T BELIEVE I AM GOING TO BE THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. PERSONALLY I THINK ITS A PROBLEM CHEVROLET HAS HAD FOR AWHILE. I ALSO HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT THE NEW VERSION OF THE TRIAL BLAZERS HAD A RECALL ON THEIR GASOLINE TANKS FOR LEAKING PROBLEMS TOO.
