Our vehicle has had zero accidents the airbag light showed up on dashboard stating check airbags. Then as far as electrical the headlights seem to turn on there own at times. We feel this perhaps is a recall not known yet.

When the driver's side window on my 2008 Chevy Cobalt is fully open/down, the "Service air bag" warning light comes on. This seems to be the exact same issue that resulted in a recall on the 2010 model (NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V500000). When I called Chevrolet corporate customer service regarding this, they explained the model years were manufactured the same, and the reason my year did not have a recall could be that there were not enough reported complaints on it. It is very concerning, since as my dealer indicated, the airbag system seems to be disabled when in this condition. I put today's date as the when the incident occurred, but it's been a condition for the last few years.

My speedometer jumps and shows a message of POWER STEERING. It makes my fuel line jump as well. I've recently gotten my starter fixed because my car wouldn't start. My tire warning stays on and my tires are new and set at the right PSI. My ABS comes and goes ALL THE TIME and nothing needs to be fixed. My car jerks really hard when all of this is going on.

I was driving alone paying attention in daylight and suddenly I was knocked/startled and vision blocked and I was saying out loud oh God what is going on-what is happeningy/I was trying to figure out where I was - next I heard my car crunching-and still going to where I exited right side of road and turned on drivers side and slid across 2 lane road-hitting a raiseded bed of 2b 3b gravel and turned back up on 4 wheels. The slanted hill next to a small ditch-about5 ft approximately off road. This all happened very quickly. There was no crash until after I was hit by airbag. Severely crashed passenger side windshield shattered/no airbag went off. Police and by standers assuming zi lost control and could see where I was headed. I never mentioned to police how I felt airbag went off. I knew their theory didn't match what I felt happened but after going back to scene my scenario from my memory is the only one I can verify. Not sure now what happens to vehicle now after I get my check today. I wasn't sure where to report. I did mention in text to adjuster but it is my understanding adjuster didn't get text ?? This just needed to be noted.

I RECENTLY ACQUIRED THIS VEHICLE, THE PRIOR OWNER PUT BLACK TAPE OVER AIR BAG DEFECTIVE MESSAGE. I KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2014, IT STATES THE OWNER WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL INVOLVING THE IGNITION EFFECTING THE AIR BAGS. THE LISTING CODES NOT INDICATE WHETHER THE RECALL/ VEHICLE WAS EVER SERVICED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I TEND TO THINK IT WAS NEVER DONE. I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DETERMINE, THE INCIDENT DESCRIBES THE CONSEQUENCE: IF THE KEY IS NOT IN THE RUN POSITION, THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN A CRASH, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY. THE DRIVER WAS REPORTED DEAD AT THE SCENE AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED A HEAD INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. HOWEVER THERE WAS/IS NO WAY TO VIEW MILEAGE ON DASH OF CAR, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BRIEFLY PRIOR TO STARTING THE VEHICLE. IT ACTUALLY SHOWS APPROXIMATELY 159,000 KM. CONVERSION OF KM INTO MILES SAYS 98,000. IN ADDITION TO MILEAGE DISCREPANCY, THERE IS A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GAS INSIDE THE CAR, THE STEERING WHEEL IS UPSIDE DOWN, 2 OR 3 MOTOR AND OR TRANSMISSION MOUNTS ARE BROKEN OR NOT ATTACHED, RIGHT FRONT ROTOR BAD, NO FUNCTIONING BLINKERS OR BRAKE LIGHTS, DASH LIGHTS INDICATE SVC TIRE MONITOR NEEDS ATTENTION, AIR BAGS NEED SERVICED, BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON, THE TRUNK RELEASE ISN'T WORKING, THE WIRING IS QUESTIONABLE, ONLY ONE SPEAKER WORKS, NO STEREO ANTENNAE, NO HORN, NO WAY TO VIEW CRITICAL ENGINE INFORMATION, SUCH AS TEMPERATURE OR BATTERY LIFE. POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 45 MPH. I CHECKED FUSE AND IT WAS BLOWN. I THEN BUT NEW FUSE IN AND STARTED CAR. THE SECOND I STARTED THE CAR THE FUSE BLEW AGAIN. THE STRANG THING WAS THAT EVEN THO THE FUES HAD BLOWN THE POWER STEERING CONTINUED TO WORK UNTIL THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF. CHECKED WIRING, MODIFIED SLEEVE AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT TENSIONER. RESEARCH SHOWS THIS TO BE A KNOWN DEFECT AND DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THIS BY MODIFYING THE CONNECTOR SLEEVE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR REPAIRS AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER.

ONE MORNING WHEN I STARTED MY 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT WITH THE 2LT TRIM PACKAGE, THE AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON THE WHOLE TIME I WAS DRIVING, AND AT THE SAME TIME THE PASSENGER AIRBAG STATUS INDICATOR OFF SYMBOL WAS LIT. THE CAR HAD NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE APPROXIMATE MILLAGE ON MY CAR AT THIS TIME WAS 50,577. THERE WAS A PERSON SETTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT WEIGHED APPROXIMATELY 140 POUNDS, SO THE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON. EVER SINCE THAT DAY, EVERY TIME I START MY CAR THE AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LITE COME ON AND STAYS ON. I CHECKED THE CONNECTORS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND ALL WERE CONNECTED. I TOOK MY CAR, PAID OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO GET THE ERROR CODES FOR THIS BUT NO CODES WERE SHOWN. RECENTLY I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH SAFETY RECALL REPAIRED. AFTER READING CHEVROLET COBALT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ABOUT AIRBAGS, NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER COBALT OWNERS ABOUT THIS EXACT PROBLEM, RECALLS THAT HAD THE TERM AIRBAGS MENTIONED, I DECIDED TO TELL MY CONCERN TO THE SERVICE EMPLOYEES AND WAS TOLD THIS WASN'T COVERED, THAT I COULD PAY FOR THEM TO DO TESTING ON IT. SEEING AS I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR THE EXACT SAME TESTING BEFORE WITH NO RESULTS AS TO WHAT WAS WRONG, I DECLINED TO HAVE IT DONE AGAIN. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET BY EMAIL CONCERNING THIS. THEY EMAILED ME BACK ASKING FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. I REPLYED WITH THAT INFORMATION AND HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM. WHAT DO THOSE OF US WHO HAVE SAFETY CONCERNS ASSOCIATED WITH THE AIRBAGS NEED TO DO TO GET CHEVROLET TO ACKNOWELEDGE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS THEIR ATTENTION SEEING AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE COBALTS? SEEING AS CHEVROLET HAS PUT OUT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS CONCERNING THIS EXACT PROBLEM PROVES THEY ARE AWARE OF IT BUT HAVE YET TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

WHEN I CALLED LAKESIDE CHEVROLET IN ROCKWALL I WAS GIVEN A VM FOR THESE RECALLS AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART AND IT COULD TAKE UP TO 90 DAYS. MY CONCERN IS 2 YEARS AGO THIS WAS A RECALL. I WAS NOT ABLE TO ORDER THE DESIGNATED PARTS FOR REPAIR UNTIL 3 DAYS AGO, AS THE DEALERSHIP I CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE PROBLEM DID NOT GET BACK TO ME. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS RECALL IS A SITUATION TO MAKE LIGHT OF. PEOPLE ARE DYING FROM THIS DEFICIENCY IN THE VEHICLE, AND I WAS NEVER EVEN INFORMED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF MY AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING. I LOSE POWER STEERING IF MY IGNITION SWITCH FAILS, IN ADDITION TO MY AIR BAGS FAILING, FURTHER COMPROMISING MY SAFETY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH SHE DROVE OVER A PATCH OF GRAVEL AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER THREE TIMES FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE AND SUFFERED NECK INJURIES, ABRASIONS, LACERATIONS, INCLUDING A FRACTURED VERTEBRAE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED. THE POLICE RESPONDED TO THE CRASH AND FILED A POLICE REPORT. CHEVROLET WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

MY SON WAS TAKING ME TO WORK ON MAY 25TH 2010 IN OUR 2008 CHEVY COBALT. ON THE RETURN HOME THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IT WOULD NOT MOVE. IN WHICH CAUSED US TO RUN OFF THE ROAD INTO A DITCH AND TURNED ON ITS SIDE. ALSO NONE OF THE 6 AIR BAGS DEPLOYED..WE DID NOT KNOW OF A RECALL ON THE POWER A STEERING UNTIL ALMOST 2 WEEKS LATER. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. OUR 2 INSURANCES COMPANIES PAID THE CAR OFF. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK THE CAR SO WE DO NOT HAVE THE DEFECTIVE PART. WE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS AND THEY WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR NOT SENDING US THE RECALL.
