Our vehicle has had zero accidents the airbag light showed up on dashboard stating check airbags. Then as far as electrical the headlights seem to turn on there own at times. We feel this perhaps is a recall not known yet.

My speedometer jumps and shows a message of POWER STEERING. It makes my fuel line jump as well. I've recently gotten my starter fixed because my car wouldn't start. My tire warning stays on and my tires are new and set at the right PSI. My ABS comes and goes ALL THE TIME and nothing needs to be fixed. My car jerks really hard when all of this is going on.

I was drivein on high way in my car got hard to trun so i stoped and let my uncle drive cause he is more stronger then from that point it got harder to trun it amost locked up on me who know what would have happen but i was almost to my house so we were ablue to get it here then i called my car lot and i hade to drive it there it was so impossible to do but with the help of my uncle he got it there and im in school and stuck with out a car intell its fixed and i have to pay laber wait on part to come in thay say etc its just alot and thank god i was not alone

i own a 5-speed manual transmission which should roll freely while in neutral. after starting engine while on a slight incline in a parking lot, the vehicle would not roll in neutral, as if all brakes were being applied. i thought that by driving the vehicle on the road the brakes would free up, but they did not. i shut the engine off and on a few times but that did not make a difference. i could only move forward at 5-10 mph in first gear to get the vehicle home, which fortunately was just 5 blocks away. something smelled terrible like burning wires or brake pads. even after letting the vehicle sit in my driveway for a few hours it would not free up the brakes which were being applied. then i read a tip on an internet users forum: remove a fuse labeled "ABS2" and voila! it freed up the brakes! i can drive the vehicle normally but obviously without ABS capability. now my 19 yr old grandson, who turned the vehicle over to me because of this issue, states this happened to him on two different occasions *while driving on the road!* imagine having your brakes applied while at full speed: THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH

The accelerator pedal constantly fails to activate immediately after turning it on. it used to happen on cold or rainy days. It now fails to activate all the time. Took it to an independent service center and they said it could be the wiring due to water getting in the car. My car did have a leak and it was fixed but many months after these issues started occurring. I get a check engine light with a service traction control, service esc, and code p2138 is shown.

The receptacle that holds the brake light gets so hot that it melts and has melted the plastic around it as well. The bulb won’t stay lit because of this therefore the brake and turn signal lights constantly burn out and it could cause an accident due to lack of signaling and could also very easily start a fire. It started about 2-3 years after we bought the car new with just having to just replace the bulbs much too often, yearly, then a couple of times a year, and now the bulbs are not even lasting a month and the components are actually melting.

I HAVE A FUEL LEAK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE, IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE. THIS LEAK IS FROM THE FUEL LINES AROUND THE HEAT SHIELD. IT APPEARS THE FUEL LINES ARE CORRODED. I TRIED TO GET A PRICE QUOTE ON PARTS FROM THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY REQUIRED ME TO TAKE IN IN FOR DIAGNOSTICS, BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL. AFTER $100 THEY TOLD ME IT WASN'T COVERED AND FINALLY QUOTED ME ON THE REPAIR, OVER $1,000. NOT ONLY DO I FEEL THE PARTS WERE FAULTY, I FEEL LIKE I WAS SCAMMED OUT OF AN ADDITIONAL $100 TO CONFIRM WHAT I ALREADY KNEW. THE VEHICLE LEAKS WHEN STATIONARY, IF YOU TURN THE KEY OFF THE FUEL LINES WILL DRAIN ONTO THE GROUND UNTIL THE LINES EMPTY. STARTING THE VEHICLE TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR THE PUMP TO GET NEW FUEL TO THE ENGINE. WHEN THE ENGINE IS ON THE FUEL WILL CONTINUALLY DRIZZLE OUT. THE LEAK WAS NOT NOTICED UNTIL A MECHANIC POINTED IT OUT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018, BUT HAS NOW GROWN TO A BIG ISSUE. GIVEN THE PROXIMITY OF THE LEAK TO THE EXHAUST I AM CONCERNED THIS COULD BE A MAJOR ISSUE FOR SOMEONE DRIVING IN THE SOUTH, IN THE SUMMER.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION WAS REPLACED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

THE POWER WINDOWS BECAME NON OPERABLE, RADIO SPEAKERS STOPPED WORKING, DOOR LOCKS DON'T UNLOCK VIA POWER SWITCH, AC/ HEAT ISSUES (DOESN'T FUNCTION PROPERLY), AND WIRE HARNESSES NEAR SEAT BELT COLUMN (WHERE BELT MEETS FLOOR) BECAME SEVERED FROM SEAT BELT COLUMN MOVEMENT.... THIS CAUSED AIR BAGS TO STOP FUNCTIONING.

THE BATTERY OF THIS VEHICLE, AND EVEN NEW ONES FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER, HAVE THE BATTERY INSTALLED IN THE TRUNK FROM THE FACTORY. THERE'S A BRITTLE PLASTIC TUBE THAT VENTS THE TOXIC FUMES GENERATED BY AN OPERATING BATTERY TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. IF THIS TUBE IS DAMAGED/BROKEN, IT ALLOWS FUMES TO ENTER THE TRUNK, AND SEEP INTO THE CABIN. THE FUMES CORRODE YOUR LUNGS, WHICH IN SOME CASES, SUCH AS MINE, LEADS TO HYPOXIA, MEANING THAT THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE IS DIZZY & CONFUSED. THIS ISSUE NOT ONLY AFFECTS THE OWNERS/OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLES WITH THIS DESIGN, BUT COULD POTENTIALLY ENDANGER UNSUSPECTING PEDESTRIANS/MOTORISTS DUE TO THE OPERATOR OF A VEHICLE BECOMING INCAPACITATED, OR THEY MAY SIMPLY BLACK OUT AT THE WHEEL DUE TO A LACK OF OXYGEN TO THE BRAIN. THE FUMES ARE ALLOWED TO BUILD UP IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR IF THE WINDOWS ARE LEFT UP AND THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON RECIRCULATE. THE FUMES ARE ODORLESS MEANING THAT YOU CAN GO ABOUT OPERATING THE VEHICLE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WITHOUT NOTICING THAT THERE'S A PROBLEM, NOT THAT IT WOULD MATTER SINCE THE FUMES CORRODE THE NERVE IN YOUR NOSE THAT ALLOW YOU TO HAVE A SENSE OF SMELL. THE SYMPTOMS ARE FLU LIKE, WHICH MAY LEAD A VICTIM TO IGNORE THEIR SYMPTOMS. IN MY PARTICULAR INSTANCE, THE FUMES THAT WERE ENTERING THE CABIN OF MY CAR WAS SULFURIC ACID. THIS DESIGN FLAW COULD EASILY LEAD TO DEATH, IF NOT FROM THE HIGHLY TOXIC, CARCINOGENIC FUMES THAT ARE ENTERING THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE, THEN THE CONFUSION/DIZZINESS THAT THE FUMES LEAD TO, WHICH NOT ONLY ENDANGERS THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE, BUT UNSUSPECTING PEDESTRIANS/MOTORISTS WHO MAY BE IN THE PATH OF A VEHICLE WITH AN OPERATOR WHO HAS BLACKED OUT, OR IS SIMPLY CONFUSED/DIZZY DUE TO A LACK OF OXYGEN TO THE BRAIN. THE PART NUMBER OF THE TUBE FOR MY SPECIFIC CAR IS 15247277. TRUNK BATTERIES SHOULD BE OUTLAWED UNLESS AFTERMARKET.

THE GAUGES ON THE DASH GO HAYWIRE. A SUBTLE 'DING DING' SOUND IS MADE. THE ENGINE HAS DIFFICULTY ACCELERATING AND WILL ONLY DO SO IN SPURTS. A POWER STEERING WARNING IS DISPLAYED ON THE DASH AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES VERY TIGHT AND IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. CAR WILL GIVE YOU ABOUT A MINUTE, TOPS, TO DO SOMETHING BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY. ISSUE HAPPENS RANDOMLY BUT SEEMS TO BE TRIGGERED BY THE CAR DECELERATING INTO FIRST GEAR, AT A STOPLIGHT FOR EXAMPLE. HOWEVER, THIS PAST INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE AND NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION WITH A SEMI. MY PARTICULAR VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING RECALL INVOLVING CHEVROLET COBALTS, GENERAL MOTORS RECALL NUMBER:10023 AND NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 10V073000. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT OF MY JOB AND THE DOORS LOCKS STARTED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING RAPIDLY BY THEMSELVES. AND NOW THEY RARELY EVER DO EITHER WHEN I TRY AND PUSH THE LOCK BUTTONS. SO THEY EITHER HAVE TO STAY LOCKED OR UNLOCKED DEPENDING THE MOOD OF THE CAR. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I HAD A GAS LEAK AND HAD TO HAVE IT SERVICED BECAUSE THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT PLASTIC PIECE TO FUEL SYSTEM BUT ONLY IN SOUTHERN STATES AND I LIVE IN THE NORTH. AND NOT TO LONG AFTER THAT MY TURN SIGNAL SWITCH WOULDN'T STAY ON OR IT WOULDN'T SHUT OFF BY IT'S SELF. ALSO DANGEROUS TRYING TO HOLD SWITCH ON WHILE MAKING A TURN.

FUEL LINE WAS REPLACED BUT STILL STRONG ODOR OF GAS AND ROTTING FUEL LINE AGAIN. SAFETY HAZARD! THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED BY A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL ON THIS?? THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE TIM LALLY CHEVROLET DEALER (440-232-2000, 24999 MILES RD, WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH 44128) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT STATED THAT THE POWER CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROMISED TO INVESTIGATE AS A CASE WAS OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 13,000.

THE DASH MESSAGE SAYS POWER STEERING. AS I WAS EXCELLERATING IN THE ON RAMP OF THE HIGHWAY, THE RPM JUMPED UP TO 6,000 ALL ON ITS OWN AND NOW IT WILL NOT SHIFT GEARS, DOES NOT READ ANY MPH, AND CAN BARELY GO MORE THAN 20MPH. THIS WAS UNEXPECTED AND HAD NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO. ALTHOUGH IT STILL FUNCTIONS (TURNS ON, RUNS, HAS ALL POWER AVAILABLE, HAS REVERSE) IT IS ULTIMATELY DISABLED. ALSO, THE FUEL LINES/ FUEL PUMP FAILED CAUSING A GAS LEAK, MAKING IT A CHALLENGE TO START THE VEHICLE. I HAVE PATCHED THE FUEL LINE AS A TEMPORARY FIX. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND THE TIMING CHAINS AT MY OWN EXPENSE

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER SON WAS DRIVING AND HIS COUSIN IN THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT AT 78 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE, LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, HIT A FIRE HYDRANT AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. IT WAS UNKNOWN THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED WHICH RESULTED WITH LACERATION ON THE ANTERIOR RIGHT SIDE, THERE WERE BILATERAL WRIST FRACTURE, FRACTURE TO THE RIGHT FEMUR AND LEFT KNEE. THERE WAS AN AORTIC LACERATION AND MULTIPLE BILATERAL LUNG LACERATIONS AND CARDIAC CONTUSIONS, AUTOPSY ALSO REVELED FIRST TO FORTH DEGREE FIRMS BURNS WITH CHARRING ON APPROXIMATELY 70% OF THE BODY SURFACE AREA, THERE WERE THERMAL FRACTURES TO THE SKULL AND BOTH THE HANDS. THE DRIVER WAS REPORTED DEAD AT THE SCENE AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED A HEAD INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE CAR HAD NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE APPROXIMATE MILLAGE ON MY CAR AT THIS TIME WAS 50,577. THERE WAS A PERSON SETTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT WEIGHED APPROXIMATELY 140 POUNDS, SO THE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON. AFTER READING CHEVROLET COBALT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ABOUT AIRBAGS, NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER COBALT OWNERS ABOUT THIS EXACT PROBLEM, RECALLS THAT HAD THE TERM AIRBAGS MENTIONED, I DECIDED TO TELL MY CONCERN TO THE SERVICE EMPLOYEES AND WAS TOLD THIS WASN'T COVERED, THAT I COULD PAY FOR THEM TO DO TESTING ON IT. GAUGES (SPEED, FUEL AND TACH) OPERATED ERRATICALLY, NOT AT ALL OR COMBINATION OF THE TWO CONDITIONS. THIS CONDITION STARTED WITH A FEW OF THE LISTED SYMPTOMS WHICH INITIALLY CLEARED THEM SELVES. LATER AS MORE SHOWED AT SAME TIME, I WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THEM OR SOMETIME THEY CLEARED THEMSELVES . THIS HAPPENED OVER A YEARS TIME. WHEN ALL SYMPTOMS SHOWED AND WOULD NOT CLEAR, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TRUSTED MECHANIC. HE COULD NOT LOCATE PROBLEM BUT DUE TO OUTSTANDING IGNITION SWITCH RECALL, SUGGEST THAT REPAIR MAY FIX THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND RECALL SERVICE PREFORMED AND NO OTHER OUTSTANDING RECALLS WERE FOUND. VEHICLE OPERATED WITHOUT A PROBLEM FOR ALMOST A MONTH BEFORE THE LISTED SYMPTOMS REAPPEARED. WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THE FAULT CODES BUT SYMPTOMS RETURNED WITHIN THE DAY AND WON'T CLEAR. A CHECK OF RECALLS FOUND THAT A RECALL FOR POWER STEERING LOSS AS DESCRIBED WAS ISSUED AND DONE AT APPROX. 49,000 MILES. SEVERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CHECKS WERE FOUND IN MAINTENANCE HISTORY (DONE AFTER POWER STEERING RECALL) AND PREFORMED BEFORE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE ISSUE DESCRIBE HAS BECOME WORSE OVER TIME AND HAS EFFECTED THE SAFETY OF NOT ONLY THOSE OPERATING THE VEHICLE BUT ANY ONE ELSE ON THE ROAD WHEN THIS PROBLEM MANIFEST ITSELF. GIVEN THAT THE IGNITION WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEMS PERSIST, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT WAS THE IGNITION CAUSING THESE PROBLEMS. I WILL CONTACT GM TO SEE WHAT MY OPTIONS ARE. I HAD TO WALK AROUND THE CAR AND TRY TO OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE, WHICH DID NOT WORK, EITHER. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF TRYING I BANGED MY FIST NEXT TO THE LOCK, WHICH ALLOWED THE CAR TO OPEN. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY, BUT IF THERE WERE, IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT OR THE CAR WAS ON FIRE, WE MIGHT HAVE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. ANOTHER ISSUE THE CAR IS HAVING IS STEREO PROBLEMS AND SPEAKER MALFUNCTION. MY FRONT SPEAKERS DO NOT WORK AT ALL AND THE FRONT LEFT (DRIVER SPEAKER) IS THE ONE WARNING CHIMES COME OUT OF, INCLUDING THE BLINKER. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS A VERY COMMON MALFUNCTION. IT IS NOT DANGEROUS PER SE, BUT A BLINKER LEFT ON UNKNOWINGLY COULD EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE RESEARCHED BOTH OF THE ISSUES ONLINE, ESPECIALLY THE LATTER IS VERY COMMON FOR COBALT OWNERS. I HAVE CONTACTED GM, AND WAS TOLD I NEED TO GET THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED FOR MY OWN MONEY, EVEN THOUGH IT CLEARLY IS A MALFUNCTION BY THE PARTS/FLAW IN DESIGN TO GET GM CUSTOMERS TO PAY PREMIUMS FOR FIXING PARTS THAT SHOULD NOT GO WRONG.

ABOUT A MONTH TO TWO MONTHS LATER ( I WOULD HAVE TO GO BACK AND CHECK) AFTER THEY FIXED THE KEY SLOT MY CAR JUST WENT DEAD AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS THE WIRING FROM THE KEY SLOT FROM THE IGNITION TO WHEREVER IT LEADS AND THAT THEY HAD TO CHANGE IT AND WHEN I TRIED TO TALK TO THE MANAGER ABOUT IT I NEVER GOT THROUGH TO HIM ON HIS PHONE, HE NEVER ANSWERED HIS CELL PHONE AND WASN'T AT THE OFFICE AND I JUST GAVE UP ON IT. SO MY QUESTION IS DID OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS I DID WHERE THEY HAD TO PAY FOR WIRING THAT I THINK WAS PART OF THE SAME THING THAT THEY SUPPOSEDLY HAD RECALLED TO FIX. IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT; THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE IGNITION KEYS, THAT COULD ACCIDENTALLY JUST TURN YOUR CAR OFF AND YOU WOULD HAVE TROUBLE STEERING THE CAR'S STEERING WHEEL AS THE CAR WAS OFF. SORRY, IF I AM NOT BEING SPECIFIC ENOUGH, I WAS JUST WONDERING IF OTHERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM I HAD ABOUT HAVING TO FIX THE WIRING AND PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES AS I BELIEVE IT WAS THEIR NEGLIGENCE OF HANDLING THE WIRING SYSTEM. WHEN WE WENT TO PICK UP OUR VEHICLE WE WERE TOLD THAT A VEHICLE, WITH THE SAME VIN # WAS ALREADY REPAIRED IN ILLINOIS. WE LIVE IN NJ AND OUR VEHICLE WAS NEVER IN IL. THE MAINTENANCE MANAGER (FREEHOLD CHEVY) AGREED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER REPAIRED BY LOOKING AT THE IGNITION SWITCH. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE VIN # ISSUE NEEDED TO BE CORRECTED BEFORE THEY CAN WORK ON OUR CAR. IT'S NOW 6+ WEEKS LATER AND OUR FOLLOW UP PHONE CALLS HAVE NOT BROUGHT US ANY CLOSER TO HAVING THE REPAIR DONE. GM DOESN'T CARE UNLESS THERE IS A DEATH WITH THESE CARS SHUTTING DOWN WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING THEM. I WAS TOLD GM WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND ANY OF THE REPAIR COSTS BECAUSE I HAD A HIGH MILEAGE VEHICLE. AT WHAT MILEAGE SHOULD YOU EXPECT A GM CAR TO START SHUTTING DOWN WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING? I WASN'T GIVEN THAT INFORMATION WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW. I'VE RECENTLY BEEN EXPERIENCING THE POWER STEERING TOTALLY GOING OUT ON MY CAR (ONCE ON JUNE 25, 2014 AND AGAIN ON SEPT 4, 2014) WHICH MAKES IT PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER MY CAR. I'VE BEEN INVOLVED WITH THESE RECALL ISSUES SINCE 2010 AND HAVE FOLLOWED GM'S INSTRUCTIONS TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE, ONLY TO HAVE CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH THE CARS PERFORMANCE. THIS EVENING WHEN I PULLED INTO THE GARAGE, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND PROCEEDED TO TURN OFF AND REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TURN KEY FORWARD AND THEN BACK, I COULD NOT GET THE KEY OUT. I TRIED PUTTING THE CAR IN GEAR AND THEN PUTTING IT IN PARK AGAIN. THE KEY STILL WOULD NOT COME FREE. I CONTACTED AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER AND TOLD THEM OF MY SITUATION- I NEED TO MOVE OUT OF STATE TO COLORADO ON AUGUST 11TH AND THIS IS MY ONLY CAR. IGNITION 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. DECEMBER 21,2008 CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER. DRIVER WAS KILLED IN A ONE CAR CRASH, WHERE HER AND HER CAR WERE THRU TO THE STREET BELOW ON 6-35 AND HIGH DR. THE CAR WENT AIRBORNE SHE WAS THROWN OUT THE CAR BUT WAS SAVED ENOUGH TO BE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE SHE LATER DIED. THE CAR WAS NOT SO LUCKY IT LANDED AND ROLLED TO A STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BRIDGE, IN WHICH THE CAR WAS SCATTER IN MANY PIECES. THERE WAS PHYSICAL NOT MUCH LEFT OF THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN GOING THE SPEED LIMIT IT WOULD HAVE BY PASSED THE OPENING AND LANDED ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT BECAUSE IT WAS SLOW GOING IT RESULTED IN HER DEATH. THERE WAS A REENACTMENT DONE BUT THE FINDING WERE IN CONCLUSIVE ON HOW SHE DIED. SHE LOST CONTROL AFTER GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY. I CHECKED FOR RECALL ON HER 2008 COBALT AND THERE WERE NONE AT THE TIME OF HER DEATH. HER OLDER SISTER WANT TO KNOW IF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A RESULT OF THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM. I STARTED LOOKING FOR RECALL RIGHT AFTER HER DEATH AND DID NOT FIND ANY AND DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT NOW THIS NATIONAL RECALLS FOR THE TOYOTA THEN THE VOLUNTARY RECALL DONE WITH GM RECENTLY OPENED OUR EYES THAT THIS YOUNG WOMAN DEATH COULD BE THE RESULT OF FAULTY CAR. THE VERY FIRST INCIDENT I EXPERIENCED WITH MY POWER STEERING WAS NOTHING MAJOR. I WAS TRYING PARK MY CAR AND IT SUDDENLY BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER. I NOTICED A SLIGHT TAPPING/RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. THE NOISE ONLY OCCURS BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 50-60 MPH AND ONLY WHEN LETTING OFF THE GAS COMPLETELY. THEN I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL AN IGNITION CYLINDER RECALL. MY CAR HAD PROBLEMS WITH LOCKING UP AND DIFFICULTIES TURNING THE KEY. SO I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THEM ABOUT THE NOISE I WAS HEARING THEN WAITED A WEEK WITH NO CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP SO I CALLED THEM. THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WOULD BE FINISHED BY NOON, I ARRIVED AT 4 PM. THEY THEN TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT YET FINISHED. THE DEALERSHIP HAD NOT EVEN PUT IN THE NEW IGNITION CYLINDER EVEN AFTER A WEEK. I WAS TOLD THE NOISE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. I WAITED FOR THE IGNITION TO BE PUT IN (ABOUT 30 MINS) THEN TOOK ONE OF THE DEALERSHIP MECHANICS ON A TEST DRIVE TO HEAR THE NOISE. NOISE WAS HEARD AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP. CHECKED UNDER THE CAR AND NOTHING WRONG COULD BE FOUND. THE LEAD MECHANIC TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE BUT DUE TO THE HEAVY DOWNPOUR OF RAIN NOTHING WAS HEARD. I WAS ASKED TO BRING THE CAR BACK ON MONDAY DUE TO POSSIBLE SEVERITY OF THE SITUATION. DROPPED THE CAR BACK OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP MONDAY. A TEST DRIVE AND A LOOK UNDER THE CAR AND THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM, NOISE COMING FROM RACK AND PINION WHILE HITTING BUMPS RACK WORN AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT STEERING COLUMN MAKING NOISE AS WELL RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT WITH OUT REPLACEMENT THE CAR WOULD EVENTUALLY HAVE NO STEERING ABILITY AT ALL: COST $1524 NO WARRANTY. THIS CAR HAS HAD THE POWER STEERING RECALL REPLACEMENT (THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE IN A PARKING LOT DUE TO BROKEN PINION) IN 2010 AND A TRANSMISSION ISSUE (RPM REV WHEN THE CAR HIT 40 WHEN THE GAS WAS NOT BEING APPLIED) THAT WAS A WORN SEAL IT WAS FIXED AND COVERED BY WARRANTY IN 2011. IT WILL BUDGE FORWARD SLIGHTLY BUT WILL NOT TURN THE CAR OFF AND ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED. UPON CALLING A DEALERSHIP AND GM DIRECTLY I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS AN INCREDIBLY COMMON INSTANCE. I WAS ABLE TO POP THE TRUNK AND PULL THE FUSE AND POWER FROM THE BATTERY TO KILL THE ENGINE BUT NO MATTER WHAT I DO I CANNOT REMOVE THE KEY. I HAVE EVEN TRIED SUGGESTIONS FROM GM WHICH INVOLVE A MANUAL KEY RELEASE UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN BUT NOTHING HAPPENED (MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS ACTUALLY DOESN'T WORK THE WAY GM EXPLAINS). THIS IS A 3 YEAR OLD 2008 GM COBALT WITH LESS THAN 35,000 MILE. I WAS OUT RUNNING ERRANDS 7/18/11. I DROVE IN TO PARKING SPOT AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN MY CAR OFF. THE KEY DID NOT TURN TO TURN THE CAR OFF NOR COULD I REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. I DROVE MY CAR TO GM DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE IGNITION CYLINDER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I WAS SURPRISED BECAUSE THE CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND I HAD NO OTHER PROBLEM. I HAVE OWNED TWO OTHER CARS, ONE FOR 10 YRS AND ONE FOR 11 YRS NEVER AT ANY TIME DID I HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH GETTING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION OR PROBLEMS TURNING MY CAR OFF. WE FIRST HAD ELECTRONICS ISSUES THE WITH OUR COBALT WHEN PARKING.WAS TOLD WIFE OVER DROVE STEERING MECH. LATER THEY CALLED A RECALL & REPLACED THE STEERING MOTOR.CONSTANTLY WE HAVE HAD IT THAT HE TURN SIGNALS WOULD NOT TURN OF AFTER A TURN. AGAIN THEY TELL ME THEY CAN NOT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE .THEN THE PASSENGER DOOR NOT UNLOCK FOR THE KEY. SEVERAL TIMES THIS OCCURRED & ONE TIME THE ISSUE LASTED FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. ANOTHER ISSUES WAS THAT THE INSIDE LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON THIS LASTED ABOUT 2-3 DAYS SOMETIMES WE SMELT RUBBERISH SMOKE FUMES THEN THE ISSUE OCCURRED & THEN WENT AWAY.WE CALLED CHEVY & EMMA SET UP A FILE & WE TURNED THE VEHICLE IN SEVERAL TIME TO JBA CHEVY IN GLEN BURNIE ,MD 21062 AND EACH TIME THEY SAY THE ISSUES COULD NOT BE REPRODUCED. THIS LAST TIME I TOOK IT IN TELLING THEM OF THE ISSUES AND AGAIN THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THEM . THIS LAST ISSUE HAS OCCURED ABOUT 500+ MILES LATER. I JUST HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED AND TIRES ROTATED . MY 2008 CHEVY COBALT JUST STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS APRIL 2, 2011. I PURCHASED IT ON MARCH 15, 2011. I WENT TO LEAVE WORK AND MY CAR WOULDN'T START. I BOUGHT MY 2008 COBALT AS A PROGRAM CAR IN NOVEMBER 2008. I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING MOTOR IN SEPTEMBER 2010. THE MOTOR WAS REPLACED. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THAT WAS THE PROBLEM OF THE INTERMITTENT EASE OF TURNING THE KEY. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR FOR THAT REPAIR I WAS TOLD THAT THE IGNITION CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS INTERMITTENTLY LOCKING UP. I PICKED UP THE CAR AND THEN THE EMERGENCY SWITCH BROKE, THAT WAS REPLACED AND DURING THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT SPEAKERS BLEW OUT. THOSE WERE REPLACED, AND NOW THE RADIO/CLOCK HAS TO BE REPLACED WHICH IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT MY TWO-YEAR CAR IS RELIABLE. I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT I BELIEVE THE CAR IS FAULTY BECAUSE IT IS "TOO YOUNG" TO HAVE THIS MUCH REPAIR WORK IN A VERY SHORT TIME.

THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED HIM THAT THEY COULD NOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, BECAUSE THE PART WASN'T AVAILABLE. ON NOVEMBER 1, 2010 WHILE THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. SHE WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE STEERING AND WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHICH DETERMINED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE CONTACTED.
