The air bag never deployed I bought car in 2018 from original owner with car only having 33,000 miles on it and still under warranty til car had 100,000 miles and I hit a deer head on 2 months after getting car which bought in may of 2018 hit the deer in July 2018 . The deer was hit with the front passenger side it broke my headlight n messed my hood up and smashed in the grill little and my air bags never deployed I hit deer at 50 mph , after that had happened I took it in to Chevy dealership and had them look at car cause I told them I hit that deer and air bag never deployed and that my air bag light came on once in awhile and said service air bag . The dealership said they do that sometimes and did something to make light go off that was it my air vag light still comes on and says service air bag . Also ignition switch and fuel smell foul coming from car a lot and is as I speak . My reduce engine power light comes on a lot and have no power to gas pedal n car won’t stay running . I have try to get two recalls fixed back in 2-21 I was having problems with my car back then too special reach called me in Jan of 2021 and told me that there were two recalls on my car ignition switch and fuel module so I informed dealership when I took my car in That next month in feb 21 told them I was informed on 2 active recalls on my car . When they were done with my car later that day I asked them if they fixed the recalls they said no cause it was map sensor so I then made an appt to get recalls fixed when I got there for the recalls to be fixed one of the technicians told me it shows that they were done . I called Chevy and complained about the issue I just had and never had recalls fixed but they must of put it in computer they fixed them So I’ve been really upset that I been trying to get past recalls fixed that are on my car and I get run around and told there isn’t any I know about a past recall on shift selnoid low circuit too that was a past recal
There is a leak in the fuel lines that is just awful. Constant while driving Many others have experienced as well. Leaves huge puddles of gas
My Cobalt 2009 has gas leaking in front of the back driver's side wheel. This has been report it seems by several people online that I have found. Why can not GM cover this repair in a recall? I've tried to call around for pricing but most garage's won't give me a quote over the phone. The best I got was that this would cost around 2000-3000 for replacement. But it seemed like a shot in the dark on the pricing. I called the local dealership near me in Darian Connecticut, and was told that this was not covered under any recall. Corrosion protection coverage expired in 2019 from GMs site. But why would a fuel line be made of a metal that rust and is near the hot exhaust requiring a heatshield on the pipes? Aftermarket repairs seems to be either Braided Stainless Steel around Nylon, or Some Nickel/Copper Piping using compression fittings that plumbers use.
Fuel leak very strong gas smell
There is a gas leak an after reviewing online there are several complaints of chevy colbalt 09 owners whos car forms a gas leak on the driver side of the car near back seat. There is a very strong smell of gasoline and seems to be a repeated issue
Vehicle is leaking fuel from rusted fuel line near drivers side rear tire. Apparently a common issue with this model with no recall.
2009 Chevy Cobalt, Driving to work Friday January 13 2023, noticed heavy smell of gasoline. parked car and noticed a puddle just in front of the drivers side rear tire. Got it home and did an inspection of the area and discovered a fuel line leak when car is running and line is under pressure. It is a big leak seemingly caused by rust developing on the line because of a heat shield trapping water and debris. This leak is very close to the hot exhaust system. Fire is an obvious possibility. I'm afraid to even drive it to a shop. I plan on having it towed.
Fuel leaking from near top of tank/pump. Sounds similar to other recalls though my VIN is not currently included. Noticed fuel smell in garage and could see fuel from top of tank. No indicators showing a malfunction.
Fuel pump leak: fuel pump line started spewing fuel over ground during engine start. Engine wouldn’t not start due to high pressure fuel leak.

The vehicle had an instance of hard starting, then I became aware of the odour of fuel in my car which quickly made me exit the vehicle as the fumes were strong. Liquid fuel was leaking out of the left rear in from of the wheel area, in proximity to the exhaust system
Leak in fuel line
Wiring harness is located too close to the human under the driver's seat. Exposes the driver to electrical frequencies that could be avoided if the wire harness was a further distance away from the human. Also, the the fuel line rusted through after 9 years about 9 inches away from the rear axle where the metal tape ends around the fuel line. The metal tape seems to allow more moisture to become trapped around the fuel line; which promotes rust and a leak where the metal tap ends. After the metal tape, the fuel line is in good condition on this specific vehicle. The fuel leak is about 0.5 inches wide and a lot of gasoline drips / leaks after the car is started. The rust particles are located after the fuel filter; which may promote the rust particles to reach the engine via the rusted fuel line. The car has trouble starting (a delay) and needs to have the key turned twice due to the leak. The leak is very close to the muffler, so it seems like it would be at risk of catching on fire if the muffler was hot enough or if it were traveling on a long trip or going up or down a steep hill. The vehicle has been inspected by police. There were no warning lamps or lights.
Noticed gas smell inside and outside of car.
I have noticed when car is parked in garage that there is a gas odor present in the garage. It appears the gas odor is the strongest around the driver side, rear wheel. I do not yet see any severe drips anywhere but it is enough to cause concern about parking the car in a closed up garage. especially in winter with a heater running... I have not yet brought it into a dealer to have it checked. This car is located in a midwest climate where salt is used on roads which would cause possible issues with corrosion.
Fuel line leak occurred at approximately approx. 76,700 miles requiring immediate repair as gasoline was leaking out at a continuous rate. Dealership indicated this is a common issue with the Cobalt. No warning lights other than difficulty starting vehicle and then smell of gas.
There is gas puddling around the driver rear tire. The symptoms began yesterday - February 11, 2022. I did bring the vehicle to Bob McCosh Chevrolet in Columbia, Missouri. They reported there are no recalls on that system. But as the article link above confirms, I am certainly not alone in this problem. I believe this problem is being investigated but no recall has been issued. I will also follow up with the service manager at Bob McCosh Chevrolet in Columbia, Missouri. I will escalate to the regional service manager for Chevrolet. I noticed the smell of fuel originating from the near the left rear well a few days ago (~1/1/2022). I took my car to a mechanic who confirmed fuel leaking out from a line located near the left rear well. The mechanic claims the leaks are caused by corroding metal fuel lines and was due to poor engineering/ design of the car. The gas line is rusted and leaking, there is a strong odor of gasoline at the rear drivers side tire of my car and I can feel/ see the fuel leaking. I have been driving my 4 month old son around in that car for months and had no idea fuel was leaking and I was putting both of our safety at risk! I called my local chevy dealership about fixing it and they said it will be at least $1300 to repair the leak and more if the gas tank needs to be replaced. I am taking the car to the dealership on 1/18/2022. There were no signs of anything wrong besides the strong smell of gas.
Fuel line rusted to the point of major leakage. Inside the heat wrap near the exhaust pipe, just forward of rear drivers side tire.
My car has a fuel leak. I looked up to see if there was a recall and there was but not for my VIN. This is a serious and dangerous issue and one I think Chevrolet needs to fix. Why are some cars covered and others not with the same issue.
fuel line has corroded badly by the rear left wheel, possibly due to the material used for the line and by road salt being captured by a heat shield. The car now leaks fuel badly whenever we try and move it. The poor design (heat shield) and poor choice of materials (appears to be steel) have caused this leak. A fuel line shouldn't be made of steel.
Fuel line leaking - 2ft diameter puddle of gas in garage started July 23, 2021. Located just in front of left side rear tire. Currently car is parked outside awaiting repair. Could have burned house down. No warning lamps no symptoms, started smelling gas in house after dinner. Vehicle has not been inspected since leak began.

THE FUEL LINES HAVE CORRODED CAUSING A HAZARDOUS GAS LEAK BY THE FUEL TANK WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A SEVERE FIRE AND OR EXPLOSION WHILE DRIVING. I NOTICED A GAS SMELL IN THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED AND UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION RECOGNIZED A GAS DRIP BY THE THE CORRODED FUEL LINES AND GAS TRAVELING DOWN THE LINES FROM THE LEAK. THANKFULLY I NOTICED THIS BEFORE A FIRE WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON A CITY STREET. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2010 WITH ABOUT 8,000 MILES ON IT AND IT'S BEEN A GARAGE KEPT CAR. THE CORROSION IS JUST ON THE GAS LINES AND NOT SO MUCH ON THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE.

AFTER FILLING MY CAR UP ON 7/28/2020 MY CAR STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH STARTING WITHOUT HESITATION. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO HAVE MY OIL CHANGED AND QUICKLY REALIZED I WAS LOSING GAS. I ENDED UP LOSING MY TANK OF GAS AND HAD TO RETURN TO THE SHOP TO HAVE MY ENTIRE FUEL LINE REPLACED. I NOTICED THAT I WAS LEAKING SOMETHING WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND COULD SEE THE TRAIL OF GAS ON THE PAVEMENT. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE SHOP IT WAS SEVERELY LEAKING GAS NEAR THE REAR LEFT WHEEL WELL.

MY COBALT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING A FUEL LEAK. UP UNTIL I BROUGHT IT INTO SERVICE, IT HAD BEEN HAVING ISSUES ACCELERATING. IT WOULD SOMETIMES FEEL AS THOUGH IT WOULD GET STUCK INTO A SLUMP, WHERE EVEN DEPRESSING THE PEDAL COMPLETELY WOULD ONLY ALLOW ME TO SLOWLY ACCELERATE UP TO AROUND 45-50MPH. THIS WOULD THEN EVENTUALLY GET UNSTUCK AFTER COMING TO A STOP, OR AFTER SHUTTING DOWN AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE HAD BEEN STARTING TO OCCUR OVER THE PAST YEAR. ALSO WITHIN THE PAST 6 MONTHS OR SO, THE CAR'S ACCELERATION STARTED BECOMING RATHER JERKY. IT WAS NOT A SMOOTH TRANSITION DURING THE ACCELERATION AND ROAD RATHER ROUGH DURING MY COMMUTES INTO TOWN. I HAD ATTEMPTED TO FLUSH OUT THE FUEL SYSTEM WITH 2-3 CANS OF SEAFOAM TO NO AVAIL. HERE RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HAVE ISSUES STARTING. FOR THE PAST 2-3 WEEKS IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT 4-5 SECONDS TO START UP RATHER THAN INSTANTLY, AND THEN WITHIN THE PAST WEEK IT BEGAN NOT STARTING AT ALL UNTIL I TOGGLED THE KEY ON/OFF MULTIPLE TIMES TO PRIME THE FUEL. AFTER LOOKING FOR RECALLS AND SERVICE BULLETINS, I CALLED A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND THEY SAID THE LEAK WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN AND IT WOULD COST ABOUT $850 TO $950 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL LINES FROM ENGINE TO GAS TANK. I NOTICED HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR ISSUES DOCUMENTED ON VARIOUS AUTOMOTIVE WEB CHAT SITES DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE FOR COBALT'S FROM 2006 TO 2010. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER TO REPORT THE REPEAT CONCERNS (CASE # 9-4957891748) AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT (#12191) AVAILABLE FOR A FUEL PUMP MODULE REPLACEMENT THAT OUR CAR MAY QUALIFY FOR AND WAS DIRECTED TO TAKE IT TO ANY GM DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC REVIEW WHICH I DID THE SAME DAY. I JUST RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND BASED ON THEIR DIAGNOSTIC REVIEW, THE PROBLEM THIS TIME IS DUE TO THE FUEL LINES RUSTING OUT, WHICH WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT. THERE ARE ONLY 121,000 MILES ON OUR VEHICLE AND IT IS KEPT IN A GARAGE WHEN NOT BEING DRIVEN. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE DRIVEN OFF THE LOT AND TOOK CAR OF UNDERSIDE DUE TO PREVIOUS KNOWN RECALLS, IT IS WELL MAINTAINED. DUE TO THE PROXIMITY OF THE LEAK TO THE EXHAUST, THIS IS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. MY CAR WASN'T DRIVABLE AND THE PARTS WERE DIFFICULT TO FIND FROM DEALERS. I HAD MINE REPLACED AT NATIONAL CHAIN REPAIR SHOP FOR ABOUT $600 COMPARED TO WHAT DEALER WOULD HAVE CHARGED. LOOKING AT DATABASE THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE DUE TO THE NATURE OF IT BEING A FUEL LEAK, ESPECIALLY WITH EXHAUST SO CLOSE TO THE LEAK. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED OR EXPANDED TO ENSURE THE SAFETY WHILE DRIVING. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEIR CAR BLOWING UP OR CATCHING FIRE. I CONTACTED GMC TO VERIFY THE CORRECT MAILING ADDRESS AND MAILED THE FORM TO THEM ON AUGUST 6TH THEY SAID I SHOULD GET THE REIMBURSEMENT. I DIDN'T HEAR BACK SO I CALLED THEM ON OCT 15TH. THEY WANTED ME TO FAX PAPERWORK AND REGISTRATION TO THEM AND SAID REIMBURSEMENT WOULD BE FORTHCOMING. I FAXED THE PAPERWORK TO THEM ON OCTOBER 18TH. I RECEIVED A CALL ON OCTOBER 25TH AND WAS TOLD NO REIMBURSEMENT. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND THEY REFERRED ME TO THE STATE SECRETARY, I CONTACTED RUTH JOHNSON, SECRETARY OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN PER BBB INSTRUCTIONS. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS TAKING CARE OF. ON 7/27/17 MY DAUGHTERS CAR WOULD NOT START. UPON DIAGNOSIS FOUND THERE WAS NO FUEL PRESSURE. FUSES AND FUEL PUMP RELAY TESTED OK. DIAGNOSED PROBLEM TO BE THE FUEL PUMP. REMOVED FUEL TANK AND PUMP ASSEMBLY AND FOUND ARCING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE PUMP. WHEN TRYING TO DISCONNECT FUEL PUMP FROM WIRING HARNESS IT HAD FUSED TOGETHER. I REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, WIRING HARNESS, AND HOSE ASSEMBLY. THIS ARCING INSIDE THE FUEL TANK COULD HAVE CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, FIRE, AND EVEN DEATH FROM EXPLOSION. I AM ATTACHING PICTURES AND HAVE RETAINED THE COMPONENTS FOR FURTHER EXAMINATION.

WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON A CITY STREET, THE ENGINE OF MY 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT STALLED AND DESPITE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, WOULD NOT RESTART. THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND THE CAR HAD BEEN FULLY FUNCTIONING THE ENTIRE WEEK LEADING UP TO THE PROBLEM. IT WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC, I WAS INFORMED THAT NOT ONLY HAD THE FUEL PUMP GONE OUT, BUT IT HAD ALSO BURNED ALMOST ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES SURROUNDING THE PUMP. THE ESTIMATED COSTS FOR THIS REPAIR ARE A REAL BURDEN CONSIDERING HOW MUCH OF THE FUEL SYSTEM HAS TO BE REPLACED. I UNDERSTAND THAT AT ONE POINT, PRIOR TO MY OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE, THIS EQUIPMENT WAS RECALLED AND I AM STILL RESEARCHING WHETHER OR NOT THE ISSUE WAS ADDRESSED FOR THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE.

THIS IS A SERIOUS RISK BECAUSE OF THE CHANCE OF A SPARK FROM THE PUMP CONTACTING THESE FUEL VAPORS.
