Power steering suddenly stops working while driving, making it difficult to steer. Fortunately when this happened today it was at low speeds and on a straight away. Warning light to check power steering went on followed by check Stabilitrak system. I called the dealer and am waiting for a response. The vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance rep, or other. No warning lamp occurred prior to the power steering failure.

The contact stated the company they work for owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission would slip intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the transmission failed. The transmission was replaced. When attempting to start the vehicle it failed to start. They had to jump-start the battery to start the vehicle. The battery was replaced by O'Rileys, a battery specialty shop. Approximately a year later, while another employee was driving at approximately 65 MPH when smoke began coming from underneath the vehicle's hood. The driver pulled over and exited the vehicle. The fire department came and put the fire out. The fire department informed the contact that the cause of the fire was because the battery caught fire. The fire department filed a report. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. There were no injuries or need for medical assistance. The contact spoke with the dealer who informed them that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

Additionally, while driving at slow speeds, the transmission was slipping, and the vehicle hesitated while shifting into gear. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the torque converter and other unknown transmission parts had previously been replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

I was going 55mph on an open highway and the transmission downshifted into 2nd gear throwing me forward and dropped me to 35mph with a line of cars behind. I could've been rear-ended, thrown off the road, or rolled if I had not immediately grabbed the shifter and put into manual and manually upshifted it back up. Besides the damages to the engine downshifting at that rate of speed to the wrong gear without notice or warning. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no not a dealer but it has recreated itself a handful of times. This happens more often on downhill grades. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?No

On multiple occasions the warning to service Power Steering and Stabilitrak have popped up during driving causing a loss of power steering. Once I was taking a curve and it jerked the truck toward the right but I luckily had a good grip on the steering wheel to keep it on the road. Other occasions it occurs upon starting the vehicle in the morning or after sitting parked for several hours. When this occurs, it is very difficult to keep control of the vehicle when turning is concerned. I have brought it up with service technicians at the dealership but they cannot diagnose unless it is in the state of warning lights on and loss of power steering. The issue usually goes away when vehicle is turned off and restarted, though not always. This issue continues at haphazard intervals so it makes driving tense and unsafe as there is no telling when it will pop up. It is also causing an issue to get fixed because it cannot be replicated to get diagnosed properly. I have not been able to get any codes read for the issue as I am not near a facility when it occurs.

The contact stated that the failure persisted with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions where the contact was informed that the engine solenoid needed to be replaced. The contact disputed the dealer's diagnosis and took the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic discovered that the torque converter was defective, and that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

06/13/2023: Odometer: 86881 Transmission-2nd Shift: Flare, 3rd Shift: rough shift flare, 4th Shift: shutter. Excessive metal particles in the fluid. No transmission codes or engine light detected. Result was a new rebuilt transmission. 11/01/23: Odometer: 90239 Engine Code: P00b7 coolant flow restriction, stuck thermostat. Result was to replace thermostat and flush coolant system. 12/06/23: Odometer: 91701 No codes detected. Fluids noticed on pavement occasionally. Valve cover gasket, vacuum pump gasket were failing. Result was to replace all parts. 02/25/24: Odometer: 92885 Code-engine overheating, idle engine. Critical 260 upon cold start. Failing temperature sensor. Result was to replace front and rear temperature sensor. Driver seat has begun to unravel and separate at the stich line on the side closest to the door. No repairs have been made. Issue began years ago. Approximately 2018. The area was small and has slowly widened. Approximately 6 inches currently even with avoidance of stretching and being cautious of that area. I do have documentation of this events and repairs if they are needed.

The contact used excessive force to steer the vehicle. The contact stated that on several occasions the vehicle was restarted, and the vehicle regained power steering functionality however, the failure would recur soon afterwards. The contact found NHTSA ID Number: 10208045 (Steering, Power Train, Electrical System, Exterior Lighting) as well as NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering) which were related to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery had failed. The battery was replaced. The failure persisted and the vehicle was returned to the dealer, and a recalibration was performed. The vehicle was returned to the dealer a third time to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and it was confirmed that the failure was related to the NHTSA ID Number and the recall however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage 85,000.

Stabilitrack system alerts then will cut off power steering. Clicking on the shift module occured resulting the computer to go into limp mode making unsafe to drive when it happens spontaneously as I drive. Took it to a local mechanic and ecu codes came up however the dealership is scheduled this weekend. No warnings. The mechanic was able to see the codes pop as I drove

A known wire chaffing problem for this make/model caused vehicle to loose all transmission power. Doors unlocked and locked on their own while moving the vehicle. Had two young children with me in 100+ degree weather. Truck finally moved in first gear at 20 mph max to get home on the road with other traffic.

Power steering and stabilitrak fail while driving randomly. Any speed, any steering angle. NUMEROUS times at highway speed. Loss of power steering completely. Will sometimes reset if truck is turned off, key removed, and turned back on again. Other times it takes a few restarts. This is dangerous and scary and it is identical to the 2015 Colorado/Canyon issue.

Vehicle suddenly loses power steering without warning. The power steering module is connected to the CAN bus which errors everything else on the same network so stabilitrack, traction control, ABS, etc goes out all at the same time. On icy roads, this caused to hit the ditch at very high speed. What I don’t understand is why you only forced a recall on the 2015 MY when the 2016’s use the same exact components and assembly process. Clearly this is still an issue for many 2016 owners!

While my 17 year old son was traveling on the highway at a speed of 55, the truck (2016 Chevy Colorado)suddenly lost its power steering. He was barely able to get off the road, because the steering wheel was so hard to turn. The stabilitrak warning light came on and a warning light about the power steering also came on(while the problem was happening). My son was very concerned, because he said if he had been traveling at that speed around a curve, he could have crashed. This seems very serious to me. I googled this problem, only to find there have been recalls on several 2015 and 2016 models, but my VIN was not one of them.... something is wrong here!!?? I'm scared to let him drive it anymore.

Vehicle shuddering at low speeds. Took to Chevrolet Dealer, and they diagnosed as Torque Converter coming apart. Colorado has 67,953 miles. Per dealer service department, Need to replace Transmission at $6,273.52. If not replaced, Vehicle will freeze up and not be able to shift gears.

Vehicle shift lever, part # 23397472, will not go into mode to allow keys to be removed from ignition. Will only go into the accessory mode which will allow the battery to run down if left this way. Have to restart and move shift lever back and forth multiple times before keys can be removed. This seems to be a continuing problem on Chevy Colorados and GMC Canyons according to various Chevy/GMC owner complaints. Almost have pointed back to the part number above.

The transmission sucks. It’s jerky, rough, and random. Downshifting from 5th to 4th and 2nd to 1st is rough. Stopping the vehicle can be a pain sometimes because it’s like the truck doesn’t want to stop. Acceleration is very poor, I shouldn’t have to go pedal to floor to accelerate 5+mph while at highway speeds. It shudders, chuggles, and creates a weird deep droning noise when getting up too speed While driving, the engine picks and chooses when to speed up. I press the gas peddle down and have to wait a few seconds before the vehicle responds. I have noticed the vehicle making sounds like it is sputtering almost to the point to seizing all together. Slow and go driving 20-40mph after coasting and trying to accelerate again the transmission bucks, hesitates trying to find a lower gear. It can’t decide which gear to go into and just sputters and chugs until I push the accelerator 1/2 way down or more and it the finds its gear and rockets off. This type of driving is not safe at all. This happens all the time. This is a known gm issue with Colorado/Canyons and GM changed transmissions following years and no support for 2015-16. It sucks at maintaining speeds; even with cruise control. I go up the slightest, and I mean like a 2% grade incline it loses its speed by 2-5 mph. And with cruise control it’ll down shift to get back to the set speed but I go nowhere. Then it’ll downshift again to a lower gear and climbs even higher in RPMs to get up to speed and then cruise control will shut off and I’ll have to manually accelerate.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that on several occasions, the engine, traction, and stabilitrak warning lights illuminated then the vehicle went into Limp Mode. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone where a diagnostic test indicated that the powertrain system and cylinder #1 had failed. The contact stated while driving downhill, the RPM increased however, the vehicle failed to respond. Additionally, the contact stated that the ABS warning light illuminated and the vehicle went into Limp Mode. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pipe, fuel rail and fuel injector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to a different dealer where it was diagnosed that cylinder #1 and the power steering failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that she would receive a loaner vehicle however, the manufacturer was contacted a second time where the contact was denied a loaner vehicle due to a warranty issue. The failure mileage was 138,000.

The transmission went from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive without me doing a thing. The light came on that the transmission was transmission to 4 wheel drive. Then the traction control lights came on the dash which said they were off. The transmission was very sluggish, I pressed on the gas pedal to see if that would clear it and the transmission didn't engage. When I went to turn of the road my front wheels felt like they were coming off. (Hard to explain) it's like the wheels were turned to tight. And the front end shook. I was stuck.

Has happened multiple times where driving and notification comes on dash that Stabilitrak and Power steering are malfunctioning and then stop working. Has happened in the middle of a turn and the wheel turn to lead in my hand and I almost crashed. Every time it happens the only way to fix it is to pull over and reset computer and pray it doesn't shut off again while I'm driving. I've spoken to numerous others with the same year and have had similar electrical issues, as well I have seen dozens of people posting online asking the same questions so i know its not just my car and I know there is a recall out for the same part on the '15 Chevy Colorado. The issue of bringing it into the mechanic to fix is that if nothing is going wrong at the time they can't see the issue. This is an extreme safety issue. more than once the power steering has shut off while taking a steep turn. GM needs to be help accountable to fix this issue.

My transmission suddenly failed while I was in drive, stopped, at a stop light. I had the transmission repaired. It was a sealed unit with nothing visible from the outside. I would have had to pay a substantial core charge to keep the failed unit, which I did not do so it was not inspected and is not available to my knowledge. My safety was put at risk because I could not move my vehicle in heavy afternoon rush hour traffic on a busy city street. The police did not respond. A tow truck took 50 minutes to arrive. My vehicle was in a traffic lane. My safety was put at risk because I had to direct on-rushing traffic around my vehicle by the light of my phone flashlight as darkness fell. My truck and I were at risk of being hit for at least twenty minutes before my arriving son and two kind strangers were able to stop traffic and push my vehicle onto private property. The problem was reproduced and confirmed by the certified Chevy technician who repaired my truck. The component was only inspected from the outside by the service tech who could not see any issues on the outside of the sealed transmission. There was no warning. My vehicle was in drive with my foot on the brake as I sat waiting for the light to change. When the light changed, I took my foot off the brake and depressed the accelerator pedal. The engine revved but there was no movement. I changed the gears from drive to park and back again several time with no effect. The reverse gear still worked but that did not help me in traffic.

Electrical issue receiving "Service 4WD" message. Has came on intermittently in the past. This causes the vehicle to get stuck in either 4wd or 2wd. Removing battery terminal and fuse fixes this and it works again fine until the error comes on randomly.

The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, after switching from the automatic drive mode to manual drive mode, the driver was able to manually switch to 1st gear which caused the speed to abruptly decrease. The contact indicated that the owner’s manual stated that the vehicle would not allow itself to shift into a lower gear at an unsafe speed. The cause of the failure was not determined. When the vehicle is placed in Park and Ignition is turned off, the Ignition Key cannot be removed one out of eight or ten tries. It is available for inspection. My wife was running an errand after dark. She was unable to remove the Key, but did not want to leave the vehicle to be possibly stolen. This was a serious danger to her and it has also happened to me. Dealers confirm that this is a common problem, but only replace parts at my expense due to being out of warranty. The parts work for several months, then the problem reoccurs. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealer. No warnings prior to failure. Problem began at 41,000 miles.

2016 colorado SERVICE BULLITEN PI1429 CANT REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION WHEN PARKING SHIFT LEVER ISNT ENGAGING OR FULLY SEATING. THIS IS POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS IF AN EMERGENCY EVER AROSE OR RESPONDING TO IT...IF YOU CANT REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION THAN WHAT IS THE POINT OF EVEN DRIVING THIS TRUCK. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IM NOT GIVING CHEVY $800 TO FIX YOUR OWN MISTAKE. PAID 30K FOR A TRUCK THAT YOU CANT TAKE THE KEY OUT OF.

ELECTRIC STEERING WAS DISABLED AND I HAD EXTREME DIFFICULTY WITH TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS IS THE SAME RECALL AS GM 15595. TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON RESOLVES THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY. NOW IT IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WITH MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE.

THE TRANSMISSION ALSO STRUGGLES TO FIND THE CORRECT GEAR WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING (70-75 MPH) WITH CONSTANT GRADE CHANGES, AND HILLS. (INTERSTATE 5 FROM LOS ANGELES TO BAKERSFIELD CA. ) WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE AND PLACING IT IN REVERSE TO BACK UP, THE TRANSMISSION SHUTTERS SLIGHTLY BEFORE ENGAGING PROPERLY. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS ON A SLIGHT GRADE, AS MY STREET AND DRIVEWAY MODERATELY SLOPED. I TOOK THE TRUCK AT THE DEALER FOR AND UNRELATED ISSUE, AND ASK THEM TO CHECK IT. THEY SAID IT WAS "NORMAL". WHEN ON CRUISE CONTROL, YOU LOOSE ABOUT FOUR MPH BEFORE IT FINALLY DOWNSHIFTS, AGAIN SOMETIMES DOWNSHIFTING TWO GEARS. THIS IS PROBABLY A SOFTWARE PROBLEM AS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS MUCH MORE NORMALLY IF YOU PUT IT IN 'TOW/HAUL' MODE. THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS 'NORMAL' AND GM CALLS IT ' TORQUE MANAGEMENT '. THE TRANSMISSION (6SPD AUTOMATIC W/V6 ENGINE) OF THIS VEHICLE IS KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUES THAT WILL SURPRISE YOU IF YOU AREN'T ALREADY AWARE OF THEM. THE ISSUE AFFECTING SAFETY THE MOST, IS THE OCCASIONAL ENGINE ACCELERATION WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AS THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS TO A LOWER GEAR. IT CAUSES THE CAR TO ACTUALLY ACCELERATE MOMENTARILY AS YOU APPLY THE BRAKE EVEN HARDER TO ARREST THE INCREASED SPEED. I WAS DRIVING UP A SLIGHT INCLINE AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP BECAUSE THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER HAD STOPPED COMPLETELY. I HAD DRIVEN THIS ROAD FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS AND HAD NEVER SEEN ANYONE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AS THE FIRST CAR DID IN THIS AREA. FIVE(5) OF US WERE ALL SURPRISED. I WAS THE THIRD CAR. AS I FIRMLY APPLIED MY BRAKES, THE CAR INITIALLY SLOWED DOWN BUT THEN IT FELT AS IF IT WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND UNFORTUNATELY I WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME, ALTHOUGH I ONLY LIGHTLY TAPPED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, FOLLOWED BY 3 MORE CARS IN BACK OF ME. AT FIRST I WAS SURPRISED THAT I WASN'T ABLE TO STOP IN TIME AND THEN IT OCCURRED TO ME THAT THE STRANGE FEELING I FELT AS THE VEHICLE SLOWED WAS AS IF THE ENGINE HAD ACCELERATED AS IT DOWNSHIFTED CAUSING THE BRAKING ACTION TO NOT BE AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2016 CHEVROLET COLORADO DUROMAX DIESEL IN SEPTEMBER OF 2016. AT 9,638 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE NOX SENSOR. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THEM BUT IT DID NOT FIX ANYTHING. AS IT TURNS OUT THE ISSUE WAS A RECALL WHICH REPROGRAMMED THE ECU. THEY DECIDED TO MAKE THE TOLERANCES LOOSER ON THE SENSORS. AT 10,647 MILES THERE WAS A LOUD WINING COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE RACE TO THE PINION BEARING IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS PITTED AND CAUSING THE BEARING TO FAIL. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. AT 22715 MILES THE TRUCK WOULD GO INTO REDUCED POWER MODE WHICH IS 25 MILES PER HOUR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY CAUSING OTHER MOTORISTS TO SWERVE TO AVOID A COLLISION. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON THE ERROR WOULD CLEAR AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE SO IT TOOK MANY VISITS BEFORE THEY REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. AFTER THIS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE AND ALMOST CAUSED ANOTHER ACCIDENT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN AND THE COMPLETE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CONNECTORS WERE IMPROPERLY CRIMPED AT THE FACTORY. THE TRUCK IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AT 26,000 MILES TO REPLACE THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID PUMP. THIS FAULT ALSO CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO REDUCED POWER MODE WHICH ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT RELIABLE, DANGEROUS, AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT, ESPECIALLY WHEN MY FAMILY IS WITH ME. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE TEAM CONCENTRIX ON BEHALF OF CHEVROLET TO SEEK A SOLUTION ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE THAT HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS. THE REPRESENTATIVE DID NOT CARE AND TOLD ME TO PURSUE A RESOLUTION ON MY OWN.

IN ADDITION, NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN MERGING WITH TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY, I WILL TRY TO TAP THE ACCELERATOR TO SAFELY MERGE WITH TRAFFIC AND THE TRUCK HAS GOTTEN "STUCK" IN A LOWER GEAR AND WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT AND I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO REAR END A CAR SO I HAD TO RIDE MY BREAK TO MAKE SURE IT WOULD NOT CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE INTO THE BACK OF A CAR. IN ADDITION TO THAT, OFTEN WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE OUT OF A CORNER OR AFTER AN OFF RAMP, THE TRUCK WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT THE SAME RATE AS THE OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME. IT WILL SLOWLY ACCELERATE AS THE VEHICLES AROUND ME PULL AWAY. IN ADDITION TO THAT, WHEN I AM ON THE HIGHWAY AND I NEED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY TO SAFELY PASS TRAFFIC, I HAVE TO PUSH THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO ENSURE THAT THE TRUCK WILL ACTUALLY ACCELERATE. THE DEALER JUST TELLS ME THAT THE SOFTWARE IS UP TO DATE AND THEY COULD FIND NO RECORD OF SIMILAR ISSUES.

THEY REMAPPED SHIFT POINTS TO SPEC SOFTWARE. THIS WAS A TEMPORARY FIX. ISSUE IS SLOWLY RETURNING. I HAVE WATCHED ON CONTROL PANEL AT TRANSMISSION OIL TEMP ( TRUCK HAS TRAILER TOWING PACKAGE ETC. THIS IS A CLUSTER FEATURE AVAILABLE.) SEEMS TO SHIFT PROPERLY UNTIL OIL REACHES 100 DEGREES PLUS THEN ISSUE ARRIVES. DEALER RELAYED THERE HAD ONLY BEEN A TECH SERVICE BULLETIN HAS BEEN TO RESET MAP/SHIFT POINTS. RECENTLY PULLED MY BOAT WITH THIS TRUCK AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTED FINE. REALLY WOULD LIKE THIS ISSUE FIXED BECAUSE OTHER THEN THIS PROBLEM REALLY LIKE THE TRUCK.

I TOOK MY TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES AND THEY SAID 'THERE ARE NO CODES, THERE SEEMS TO BE NOTHING WRONG THE COMPUTER DOESN'T KNOW WHETHER TO STAY IN THAT GEAR OR UP SHIFT 1 GEAR OR 2. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO PUSH DOWN HARDER ON THE ACCELERATOR AND LEARN TO DRIVE WITH A SMART TRANSMISSION.' SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE, IT HAD A BUCKING AT SPEED OF 25-40 MPH, THIS WAS VERY NOTICEABLE IN CITY DRIVING, THIS ISSUE WAS COUPLE WITH UNCONTROLLED SURGES IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASE OCT 28 OR 30, 2016. I TURNED IN THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE ON DEC 19, 2016, DEALER SERVICE REP CONFIRM THERE WAS AN ISSUE AND KEEP THE TRUCK FOR REPAIRS. VEHICLE WAS IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR OVER 40 CONSECUTIVE DAYS TO FIX ISSUE, DEALERSHIP TECHS, AS WELL AS GM FIELD REPS HAVE LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND HAVE TRIED TO FIX IT TO NO AVAIL. ON FEB 8, THE GM REP SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THE ISSUE WAS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM WITH THIS SPECIFIC TYPE VEHICLE AND THAT THE SOFTWARE THIS VEHICLE HAS IS A NEW SOFTWARE. WHEN I ASKED IF THIS ISSUE IS BEING WORKED BY THE SOFTWARE ENGINEERS FOR SOLUTION THE REP SAID HE HAS NO IDEA AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK. THIS ISSUE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM ESPECIALLY WHEN SUDDENLY SURGES WITHOUT CONTROL, PARTICULARLY WHILE DRIVING IN A CITY CENTER A DRIVER CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR POTENTIALLY HIT A PERSON WHILE LOOSING CONTROL. GM COSTUMER ASSISTANT WAS CONTACTED, BUT THERE WAS NOT HELP AND GM REFUSES TO LET ME KNOW WHEN THE FIXES FOR THIS ISSUE WILL BE OUT. WHAT I HAVE OBSERVED IS THAT THE VEHICLE IS TOO EAGER TO UPSHIFT AND SOMETIMES GOES INTO 5TH OR 6TH GEAR AND DROPS THE ENGINE BELOW 1000 RPM. IT STAYS IN THAT GEAR WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND WHEN ACCELERATED IT STAYS IN THE HIGH GEAR ON BOGS DOWN AND ON TWO OCCASIONS STALLED. THIS IS DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS OR ACCELERATING ON AN HIGHWAY ONRAMP TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC. I HAVE TAKE THE TRUCK TO DEALER AT AROUND 2000 MILES. WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS AND THEY "RESET" THE TRANSMISSION. IT RAN FINE FOR ONE DAY AND BEGAN THE PROBLEMS AGAIN. THIS IS HAPPENING WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. SINCE THERE IS NO OBVIOUS INDICATOR ON THE DASH THE THE VEHICLE IS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE, IF I DO NOT NOTICE THE BRIEF "ENGAGING 4 WHEEL DRIVE MESSAGE" THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT IT IS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE UNTIL THE VEHICLE STARTS "HOPPING" ON DRY PAVEMENT WHILE TURNING. SHOULD THIS HAPPEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON A CURVE THERE IS THE STRONG RISK ON A ROLLOVER. IF THE ACCELERATOR IS QUICKLY FLOORED THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS SEVERAL GEARS LOWER AND JERKS FORWARD. THIS CONDITION HAPPENS PRIMARILY ON SECONDARY ROADS WHILE DRIVING ALONG THE ROAD AND WHEN PULLING FROM ONE ROAD INTO TRAFFIC ON ANOTHER ROAD. THE SITUATION WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE TRUCK DOES NOT ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD. THIS TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS 1200 MILES ON IT. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA WITH MODERATE HILLS AND MANY WINDING ROADS AND TREE OBSCURED CORNERS. WHILE DRIVING AT A MODERATE SPEED (30-40 MPH), I EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE'S ABILITY TO DOWNSHIFT FROM OVERDRIVE TO ADDRESS THE INCREASING INCLINE. THE VEHICLE WILL, DESPITE NORMAL INCREASE IN FUEL PEDAL PRESSURE, LOSE RPM'S FROM APPROXIMATELY 2,000 TO 1,000. AS IT APPROACHES 1,000 RPM, THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO "STUTTER" AND "LURCH" AS THE ENGINE TRIES TO COPE WITH THE HIGHER GEAR. THERE ARE TWO "FIXES" FOR THIS; PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL DOWN FIRMLY, WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO RADICALLY DOWN SHIFT AND "LEAP" FORWARD, OR TO DROP THE TRANSMISSION LEVER TO "MANUAL" AND MANUALLY CHANGE GEARS (WITHOUT THE "LEAP" SEEN IN THE FIRST METHOD). THE END RESULT OF THE NON-MANUAL APPROACH IS TO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE RADICALLY IN AN ENVIRONMENT OF OBSCURED CORNERS AND UPHILL DRIVING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY PROBLEM AS THE AREA IS SWARMING WITH DEER, BICYCLISTS, PEDESTRIANS, ETC. I HAVE ALSO HAD "STUTTERING" INCIDENTS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM LOW SPEED, TO ENTER TRAFFIC, INTERSTATE, ETC., ALTHOUGH THESE HAVE BEEN INTERMITTENT IN NATURE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL ALSO RADICALLY DOWNSHIFT GOING DOWNHILL WITHOUT WARNING AND SEEMS TO TAKE A LONG TIME TO UP SHIFT ONCE IT IS ON LEVEL GROUND - AGAIN AN INTERMITTENT ACTION. UNDER A NEED FOR DOWNSHIFTING FOR ACCELERATION THE DOWN SHIFTING IS DELAYED OR HESITATES MOMENTARILY AND THEN THE TRUCK JERKS FORWARD TO A EXCESSIVELY LOWER GEAR & THE UPSHIFTS TO THE GEAR IT SHOULD HAVE IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE DELAY OR LAG IN DOWNSHIFTING CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION WHEN NEEDING INSTANT POWER. THERE IS MUCH DIFFICULTY WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC WHEN POWER IS NEEDED.. MANIPULATING THE MANUAL SHIFT CAN COVER UP THIS DEFECT ON SOME OCCASIONS WHEN IF YOU HAVE TIME TO PLAN FOR IT. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO SHUTTERS AT LOW LOAD MANY TIMES RESULTING IN NO POWER UNTIL YOU DOWNSHIFT. THEN THIS DOWNSHIFT IS DELAYED AND THEN BECOMES ABRUPT AGAIN. THE SHUTTER FEELS LIKE THE TRUCK IS GOING OVER SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING IS CERTAINLY NOT CORRECT AND CERTAINLY RESULTS IN UNSAFE SITUATIONS. I SHOULD HAVE TEST DRIVEN THE TRUCK UNDER MORE CONDITIONS THAN I DID AND PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT. I HEAR THAT THIS PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED WITH AN AFTERMARKET COMPUTER UPDATE. CHEVY PROBABLY DOSE NOT WANT TO ADMIT THAT IN ORDER TO HAVE THE GAS MILEAGE RATINGS THE TRANSMISSION MUST BET THIS WAY. ALSO NOTE THAT THE 2017 COLORADO WILL HAVE AN 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION.

DELAYED OR NO DOWNSHIFT. TRAVELING ABOUT 2 MPH AND TURNING EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT AND APPLYING THROTTLE THE TRUCK DOES NOT RESPOND UNTIL THE THROTTLE IS INCREASED STEEPLY . THE TRANSMISSION DOES THEN SHIFT TO A MUCH LOWER GEAR AND ACCELERATION IS DRAMATIC.

WHILE DRIVING ON A HILLY HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH, THE TRUCK SUDDENLY LURCHED INTO AN EXTREME DOWNSHIFT AS I WAS GOING DOWNHILL. I HAD NOT BEEN MAKING ANY SIGNIFICANT BRAKING OR ACCELERATION MOTIONS--JUST DRIVING NORMALLY WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND I HAD NOTHING IN TOW. THE TRUCK DECELERATED QUICKLY AND THE RPMS CLIMBED SIGNIFICANTLY. THIS OCCURRED TWICE: ONCE AROUND 2,800 MILES AND A SECOND TIME AT 3,400 MILES, UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS - DRY ROADS, DAYTIME, GOING DOWNHILL ON A HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NOT ANY WARNINGS, AND NONE OF THE SERVICE LIGHTS CAME ON. IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF THIS GEAR. EACH TIME, I HAD TO AVOID BEING HIT FROM BEHIND, AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO STOP COMPLETELY. THEN I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED WITH NORMAL FUNCTIONING OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAUSE IS UNKNOWN.

WHILE DRIVING THE 2016 COLORADO, THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE SEEMS TO HAVE TROUBLE SHIFTING AND ACCELERATING AND THE SHIFT PATTERNS ARE ERRATIC IT SEEMS, MAYBE ITS THE FUEL EFFICIENT CRAP THAT SHUTS DOWN CYLINDERS, MAYBE ITS THE TRANS? . EXPERIENCED IT ON HIGHWAYS AND LOWER SPEEDS, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, TRUCK'S TRANSMISSION CLUNKS, SHIFTS HARD AT RANDOM AND STUTTERS ALLOT . IT'S AGGRIVATING. WHEN TRYING TO PASS, SEEMS TO BE ZERO ACCELERATION FELT WHEN FLOORING IT THEN SUDDENLY KICKS IN (ROUGHLY)..LIKE OH HEY-I NEED TO GO.. I COULD GET IN A WRECK-ENDED BECAUSE OF THIS AND I BETTER NOT TRY TO PASS ANYONE.. I FEEL MY SAFETY COULD BE AT RISK WITH AS MUCH HESITATION THEN SUDDENLY LURCHES AS IT HAS. I SEE QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS ALREADY CONCERNING THIS AND/OR DESCRIBING JUST ABOUT THE SAME ORDEAL. DAILY - BUT RANDOM - CITY AND HIGHWAY, TURNING, STRAIGHT ETC. BASICALLY ANY SITUATION BUT IDLE.

VEHICLE STALLS SOMETIMES WHEN I STOP. SE LIGHT IS NOW ON. SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST COMES ON NOW. TRUCK SURGES AND SHUTTERS AND IS ANNOYINGLY HUNTING FOR GEARS AND CAN'T FIND THEM. SLUGGISH THROTTLE LIKE I'M TRYING TO PULL A BULL DOZER OUT OF THE MUD. THIS MOSTLY HAPPENS BETWEEN 15 AND 40 MPH BACK ROADS AND HIGHWAY STOP-N-GO. NOT SETTLING FOR THE "OH THAT'S NORMAL" BSHT. SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A FORD F150. TIME FOR A TRADE IN. 10K MILES AND I AM COMPLETELY DISGUSTED WITH CHEVY NOW. ALL I CAN SAY IS GOOD LUCK IF YOU HAVE A 2016 COLORADO.

THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES WHILE TRYING TO FIND THE CORRECT GEAR..I SPOKE TO A MAINTENANCE REP AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT MY TRUCK AND HE SAID THAT THE ENGINEERS MADE THE TRUCK THAT WAY FOR FUEL EFFICIENCY. HE ALSO TOLD ME TO JUST FLOOR THE ACCELERATOR TO GET POWER WHEN I NEED IT. IT STILL HESITATES EVEN WHEN I FLOOR IT AND HOW DOES THAT HELP FUEL EFFICIENCY? HE SAID IF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN COMES OUT ON THIS ISSUE THAT I CAN BRING IN MY TRUCK AND THEY WILL FIX THE ISSUE. I AM SCARED TO PASS A VEHICLE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS COMING FOR FEAR OF THE TIME IT TAKES FOR THE TRUCK TO FIND THE CORRECT GEAR. IT ALSO KIND OF JERKS WHEN IT DOES FIND THE RIGHT GEAR. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN JANUARY OF 2016.

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

WHILE DRIVING THE COLORADO, THE TRANSMISSION GETS SO CONFUSED ON WHAT GEAR TO BE IN AND THE SHIFT PATTERNS ARE THE CRAZIEST I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. FROM 40-20MPH, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THIS TRUCK'S TRANSMISSION CLUNKS, SHIFTS HARD, STUTTERS AND CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHICH GEAR TO BE IN. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING. NOT TO MENTION, WHEN TRYING TO PASS, THERE IS ZERO ACCELERATION FELT WHEN FLOORING THE PEDDLE. I AM SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND MANY DAYS DURING THE TO AND FROM WORK COMMUTE, I FEEL AS IF I AM GOING TO GET REAR-ENDED BECAUSE OF THIS TRANSMISSION. IT'S ANNOYING WHEN DRIVING BUT STRESSFUL AS WELL, BECAUSE I FEEL AS IF MY SAFETY IS IN JEOPARDY DUE TO THIS "LEARNING" TRANSMISSION. IT'S SO DISAPPOINTING.

THE SITUATION WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE TRUCK DOES NOT ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD. THIS TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS 1,500 MILES ON IT. THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE THE TRUCK WAS NEW AND THE SEVERITY VARIES WITH TRUCK SPEED AND ROAD INCLINATION. THE SITUATION HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE DEALER AND TO CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO CORRECTIVE ACTIONS HAVE YET TO BE MADE."

WHEN MERGING ONTO I-70 FREEWAY FROM ON-RAMP, I APPLIED THROTTLE TO MOVE INTO THE TRAFFIC FLOW. ENGINE "STUMBLED" AS IF IN A DEAD SPOT. TRUCK DID NOT ACCELERATE AND APPEARED TO BE LUGGING BADLY. TRANSMISSION WAS IN TOO HIGH A GEAR AND SEEMED TO BE SEARCHING FOR CORRECT GEAR. DURING THIS TIME ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS FORCED TO BRAKE AND THERE WAS A NEAR MISS OF HAVING A REAR-END COLLISION. ALL I COULD DO WAS WATCH IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AS TRAFFIC CONVERGED ON ME. THIS "DEAD THROTTLE / WRONG GEAR" ISSUE HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY ON SURFACE STREETS BUT LUCKILY ON SURFACE STREETS I WAS NOT IN SUCH A CRITICAL SITUATION. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED REPEATEDLY AND AT MANY PLACES ON THE INTERNET. WHEN WILL NHTSA FORCE GM TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE? ENGINE SEEMS TO LAG UNDER QUICK ACCELERATION. PROBLEM OCCURS MOST OFTEN WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A TURN OR WHEN CHANGING LANES UNDER ACCELERATION. SPEEDS OF OCCURRENCE MOSTLY APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MPH. REQUESTED CHECKS AND SERVICE AT A DEALERSHIP ONLY TO BE GIVEN A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM GM STATING THIS WAS A NORMAL PART OF THE TRACTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE (2014 SILVERADO) WAS ALSO LISTED ON THE BULLETIN, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER NOTICED ON THIS VEHICLE. I SEE THIS ISSUE AS AN INCREASED RISK OF A COLLISION WITH THE HIGHEST RISK BEING A REAR END COLLISION. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED.
