This lead to an injury accident which totaled the car. I have documentation stating that the recall was fixed, but after I moved to Germany with the Army, the recall regularly activated the active handling when not needed (e.g parking) but then when we started slipping, the active handling did not engage and we crashed, totaling the car. The airbags did not engage even though the car played pinball on both sides of the autobahn. If we were going any faster, we would have died.

There was smoke detected from underneath the hood. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuse box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and informed the contact that the part was no longer produced. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the fuse box to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V251000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included. I purchased my 2005 Corvette C6 from a used car dealership on 4/30/2023. The car was fine for the first week. The second week I began getting a lot of error codes specifically: Service Active Handling System Service Traction Control Service ABS Shocks Inoperative Service Fuel System. At times it would go into limp mode. I would find a safe place to pull off. I would shut the car off and it would not restart. I would check the relays under the hood and the passenger floorboard. Eventually it would restart and drive again until the next time. I have replaced the following components: Battery cables with factory replacement New Battery, twice New high output alternator and a new belt. These items solved the many codes. Now I get Service Traction System, and the traction control shuts off. When this happened last, I got a P0101 MAF sensor error. Replaced the MAF Sensor 8/13. Has not happened as of yesterday. I have checked all of the grounds, added a new ground system called the Big Three. I should not have to put all this work into a well documented issue not only in the C6 but other models.
My car has been broken for over a year now. It has been to the dealership for the main engine wiring harness part number 19115750 which is unique to the 2005 and 2006 corvette. The failure causes several different problem. It keeps the TCM from which is the traction control module which adjust speed and traction to the wheels which is design to help drivers keep their cars under control. Without this system the car will loose traction and can cause it to go off the road. The second issue with the harness is it can put the car limp mode which restricts the speed to under 40mph which if you are driving and trying to excel into traffic this system will come in without notice and put you into a situation where if you are trying to merge or just go when the light changes it will only go like 5 mph causes the cars behind you to run into the rear of your vehicle and when if fail and you are pulling into traffic it causes your car to be in a direct line of impact with oncoming vehicle. The engine harness also provides power to the transmission via the ECM which keeps it from providing enough power to run the transmission control computer. This will make your car not go into gear or make it go completely out so without a transmission your car won’t move at all. This happens without notice. Now GM doesn’t make a replacement harness anymore making your vehicle unusable. GM also wants between 7k and 10k to make a harness for the vehicle. This doesn’t include installation. This makes the owners like myself have to seek other means to repair the vehicle. Like having a custom harness made for vehicle. Since GM only made this harness for 2 years it has been impossible for me to get my vehicle repaired at any cost. Making owner to make decisions that are unfair to owners. Like sell the car for scrap Paid the expensive repair which is like half the value of the car. Trade the car and lose thousands of dollars if you can find a dealership willing to take it
Service Column Lock, Service Active Handling System. Engine shut down (off) happened and avoided collision. Contacted GM and refused to issue a TSB (#18-NA-346, issued November 14, 2018).
WHEN TAKING THE CAR OUT OF PARK, THE SHIFTER IS STUCK, YOU HAVE TO TURN THE CAR BACK OFF AND THEN ON TO GET IT TO RELEASE SOMETIME IT TAKE 2-3 TIMES REPEATING FOR IT TO DISENGAGE. ALSO, THE BATTERY DRAINS IF IT STARTED EVERY WEEK. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 36,000 MILES IS NOT DRIVE BUT ON NICE DAYS.

WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WITHIN A LEFT CURVE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST TRACTION IN THE REAR WHEELS SENDING THE VEHICLE ACROSS THE OPPOSITE LANE AND INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC SHOULDER. CAR WAS TRAVELING ON A WARM SUNNY DAY ON A TWO LANE COUNTRY ROAD. IT IS MY BEST GUESS THAT THE VEHICLE APPLIED REAR BRAKES AS A MEANS OF ACTIVE HANDLING. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES OF THE EXCESSIVE BATTERY DRAINAGE OF THESE VEHICLES. GM DECIDED THAT THE CAR WOULD NEED TO BE PLACED IN REVERSE WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED FOR THE CAR TO BE TOTALLY TURNED OFF. THIS CAUSES THE BATTERY TO DRAIN EXCESSIVELY, I HAVE REPLACED 4 BATTERIES IN A YEAR. YOU WILL BE STRANDED WHEREVER YOU'RE AT. GM HAS NOT TRIED TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER. WHAT THEY DID WAS IN 2006 TOOK THE FUNCTION OFF THE CAR, SO THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. MY PROBLEM IS VERY SIMILAR TO BELOW. MY 2005 CHEVY CORVETTE WILL RUN FINE FOR A WHILE. THEN FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON, THE DIC WILL FLASH - CHECK TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ABS, ETC. IF I SHUT OFF THE CAR, THEN RESTART, THIS MESSAGE WILL STOP, BUT THE SECURITY LAMP WILL STAY ON. THE TIME BETWEEN INSTANCES WILL DECREASE UNTIL THE CAR WILL NOT START PERIODICALLY. I HAVE HAD THE BCM AND ECM CHANGED. THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM FOR A WHILE, BUT THE PROBLEM COMES BACK. I HAVE ALSO SEEN THE ERROR "NO FOB" EVEN WHEN A NEW BATTERY HAS BEEN PUT IN THE FOB AND IT WORKED JUST FINE AN HOUR AGO. THIS IS GETTING EXPENSIVE. I HAVE PUT NEW BATTERIES IN, NOTHING SEEMS TO PREVENT THIS FROM EVENTUALLY HAPPENING. THE CORVETTE FORUM HAS MANY POSTS ON THIS ISSUE. FROM ANOTHER POST: I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF DEAD BATTERY SYNDROME (DBS) SINCE I BOUGHT MY 2005 CORVETTE IN OCTOBER 2008. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST 4 TIMES. I HAVE BOUGHT THIS TO THE DEALERS AND GM'S ATTENTION AND THEY SAY THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS CONDITION AFFECTS VERY MANY 2005 MANUAL TRANSMISSION CARS WITH MUCH DATA ON THE INTERNET ON FORUMS AND BLOGS. MANY OF US HAVE FOUND ALTERNATIVE METHODS TO KEEP THE CAR OPERABLE. GM NEEDS TO FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS CONDITION AND ISSUE A FIX.

THE AUTOMATIC SHIFT LEVER LOCKS IN THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SHIFTED FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. THE OWNERS MANUAL LISTS A PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW IN THE EVENT OF THIS HAPPENING. IT MAY OR MAY NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM ON EVERY OCCASION. THERE ARE REPORTS OF TOTAL FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE NEEDING A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION IS A COMPLETE SHIFTER REPLACEMENT DUE TO A FAULTY SOLENOID NOT AVAILABLE AS SEPARATE PART IN THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. THERE IS A GM SERVICE PROCEDURE FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THE ULTIMATE COST TO THE OWNER IS IN THE $800.00 TO $1200.00 RANGE WITH MANY OWNERS REPORTING ISSUES FOR THE 2005-06 MODEL YEARS. A DESIGN CHANGE WAS INSTITUTED AFTER THE 2006 BUILD YEAR. THERE HAS BEEN NO PARTICIPATION FROM GM FOR THE FAILURES.

A STRONG FUME ODOR ENTER MY HOUSE AS IF SOMETHING WAS BURNING, MY CORVETTE WAS IN MY GARAGE IT HASNT BEEN USED IN MORE THAN 3DAYS.....I NOTICED IT WAS COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR, AND IN EFFECT IT WAS! CONTACTED MY MECHANIC AND HE ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS THE ABS SYSTEM CAUGHT ON FIRE DAMAGING THE CONECTOR, MODULE AND REGULATOR. HE FOUND A LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID THRU THE MODULATOR THAT CAUSE THE MODULES CABLES BURNED THE CONNECTOR. HAD TO CHANGE ALL THE ABS SYSTEM SINCE CHEVROLET MODIFIED THE PREVIOUS ABS SYSTEM CAUSE IT WAS DEFECTIVE. HOWEVER NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE TO THIS SYSTEM. AN APROX $3500. IN REPAIRS FOR A SYSTEM THAT THEY KNOW IS DEFECTIVE. WE WERE LUCKY NOTHING ELSE IN OUR GARAGE/HOUSE GOT DAMAGE IT WAS AN SCARY SITUATION.

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A SPECIFIC DATE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY TWICE DUE TO THE INTERMITTENT FAILURE. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT A CLICKING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE KEYLESS IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TPMS SENSOR ILLUMINATED AFTER REPLACING THE FRONT TWO TIRES AND NOTICED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL SHORT AND THE ALTERNATOR MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ACCELERATED QUICKLY TO 35 MPH AND WHEN I REACHED THE END OF THE BLOCK I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW AND MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN. AT THAT TIME I GOT A WARNING TO CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM AND NOTICED I HAD NO POWER STEERING. MANAGED TO MUSCLE THE WHEEL TO COMPLETE THE TURN (HAD IT BEEN MY WIFE THERE IS NO WAY SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL) AND CONTINUE SLOWLY DOWN THE STREET TO MY DRIVEWAY WHERE I AGAIN MUSCLED THE CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY. DISCOVERED THAT THE MOTOR WAS RUNNING BUT THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS NOT MOVING. THUS NO ALTERNATOR, POWER STEERING ETC. I HAD MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT, DISCOVERED THAT THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE HARMONIC BALANCER PULLEY ON THE CRANK SHAFT STRIPPED AND THE CRANK SHAFT WAS TURNING AND NOT MOVING THE PULLEY. HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE PARTS AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE PLENTY IN STOCK. HE THOUGHT THIS WAS SURPRISING AND THAT IT WAS NOT A SPECIAL ORDER PART. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD HIM THAT THEY HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS. BOTH MY MECHANIC AND I THINK THIS SHOULD QUALIFY FOR SOME TYPE OF RECALL IF IT IS HAPPENING WITH FREQUENCY. OBVIOUSLY SOME KIND OF DESIGN FLAW AND/OR MATERIAL FLAW, PLUS THEY DIDN'T KEY THE PULLEY SO IF THE BOLT STRIPS YOU WOULD NOT LOOSE THE POWER STEERING, ETC. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEED OR DURING THE ACTION OF TURNING I BELIEVE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND/OR INJURY COULD HAVE OCCURRED. COST OF THE PARTS AND REPAIR WERE $2300.00. *TR

MAY OF 2014, A GM RECALL # 13146 WAS ASSIGNED TO THE PROBLEM WITH A COMMITMENT FROM GM THAT THE UNDERHOOD BUSSING ELECTRIC CENTER (UBEC) WOULD BE MODIFIED FOR VEHICLE OWNERS AT NO COST (SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V251000). I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET A FEW TIMES SINCE THEN, THE LAST CONTACT BEING YESTERDAY (10/29/14). I WAS ISSUED A CASE NUMBER BY CHEVROLET/GM (NOT INCLUDED IN THIS DESCRIPTION AS IT COULD LEAD TO PERSONAL INFORMATION). DESPITE BEING AWARE OF THE NEED TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, I WAS INFORMED 10/29/14 THAT CHEVROLET/GM STILL HAS NOT PROVIDED THE RE-WORKED UBEC FOR REPLACEMENT. WATER LEAK IN 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CAUSED VERY STRONG MOLD/MILDEW ODOR IN THE CAR AND DESTROYED THE PASSENGER CARPET AND INSULATION, WHICH WERE REMOVED BY TECHNICIAN 122 AT SUN CHEVROLET IN MCMURRAY, PA ON 1/25/2012. SINCE DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT CARPET OR INSULATION, THE METAL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOES GET EXTREMELY HOT AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS BURNS. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE REMEDIED IMMEDIATELY. RECENTLY A RAIN STORM CAUSED MORE WATER TO LEAK INSIDE AND COLLECT UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND ALMOST DAMAGED THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER FLOOR WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY I HAD A TOWEL WITH ME AND QUICKLY ABSORBED ALL OF THE WATER AND RETURNED BACK HOME TO VACUUM THE REMAINING WATER BEFORE ANYTHING ELECTRIC WAS DAMAGED. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING AND HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP THAT IT MAY BE A FAULTY WEATHER STRIP CAUSING THE WATER LEAK. IF I HAD BEEN GOING FASTER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE CARS ELECTRONICS AND MAY HAVE EVEN CAUSED THE CAR TO SHUT OFF WHICH CAN LEAD TO A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AND CAUSE MAJOR INJURIES OR DEATH. THE WEATHER STRIP SHOULD BE RECALLED AND/OR REPLACED AND THE LEAK REPAIRED BY GENERAL MOTORS LLC AT NO COST BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND A FACTORY DEFECT. I SPENT A LOT OF HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS CAR AND DID NOT EXPECT ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. THIS ISSUE ALONE HAS ALREADY COST ME $235.85 AND HOURS OF MY LIFE THAT I WILL NO'T GET BACK. I WAS DRIVING MY CORVETTE DOWN I10 AT NIGHT WHEN MY LOW-BEAMS DISENGAGED, PLACING ME IN THE DARK AND ALMOST CAUSED A WRECK. I DROVE REST OF THE WAY WITH MY HIGH-BEAMS. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I STARTED IT, THE LOW-BEAMS CAME ON, BUT AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES THEY BOTH WENT OFF. THE HIGH-BEAMS STILL WORKED. I WENT TO A LOCAL CORVETTE-CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC WHO CHECKED THE BULBS, FUSES, RELAYS, AND ELECTRICAL. HE SAID THAT IT APPEARED TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE FUSE BLOCK. HE WANTED A LOT OF MONEY TO REPLACE IT, SO I HELD OFF TO CHECK IT OUT SOME MORE. EVERY DAY, ONCE MY CAR BECAME WARM, EITHER FROM RUNNING OR FROM THE ARIZONA SUN, MY LOW-BEAMS WOULD TURN OFF. I WENT TO THE CORVETTE FORUM, THE LARGEST CORVETTE ONLINE COMMUNITY, AND THE MEMBERS KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON IMMEDIATELY. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY FUSE BLOCK AND THAT MANY C6 CORVETTES HAD THE SAME ISSUE...AS THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HEATED UP, THE RUNNING LIGHTS FAILED. THEY TOLD ME LET MY CAR RUN UNTIL THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND THEN PLACE A BAG OF ICE ON THE FUSE BLOCK. I DID AND WITHIN 10 MINUTES THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. THE FOLKS IN THE FORUM SAID THAT THIS WAS A WELL-KNOWN SAFETY-DEFECT IN THE CORVETTE WORLD AND THAT CHEVY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. I WENT TO THE CHEVY DEALER AND TOLD ONE OF THE SERVICE MANAGERS. SHE DISAPPEARED FOR 10 MINUTES AND WHEN SHE CAME BACK TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE. THEY IGNORED WHAT I TOLD THEM AND SAID THEY WOULD NEED HALF A DAY TO EXPLORE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THAT EVEN THEN, THEY MAY NOT FIND THE ISSUE. COOLING SYSTEM FAILED, COOLANT FLYING ALL OVER THE ENGINE BAY, UNDER THE CAR, AND ON THE HIGHWAY. I'M GLAD I WASN'T KILLED. CHECKED ALL THE PULLEYS AND FOUND THAT THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT HAD BACKED OUT, WHICH I LATER FOUND OUT CAUSED WOBBLE ON THE BELT AND LED THE ENGINE/CAR TO FAIL. GOT A TOW TO THE NEAREST GM DEALER. 02/13/2007 2005 CORVETTE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. WOULD NOT START OR LOCK. LEFT US STRANDED AFTER DINNER. CAR WAS TOWED TO HOME THAT NIGHT AND TOWED TO DEALER ON 02/14/07. 02/14/2007 INVOICE# CVCS117440 #1 CUSTOMER STATES VEHICLE WILL NOT START - BATTERY LEAKING ACID, NECESSARY TO REPLACE BATTERY, CLEAN ACID SPILL. CLEAN CABLES - CHECK ALT 145 AMP OUTPUT DIODES GOOD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AS WELL AS HER SON AND ON BOTH OCCASIONS, WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, IT FELT AS IF THE BRAKES LOCKED UP. 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE BASE. DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY RT. 9 IN CONNECTICUT. CAR HAD ROUGHLY 5000 MILES ON IT. DATE AROUND SEPTEMBER 10. PRESSED FINGER ON POWER TELESCOPE STEERING WHEEL SWITCH TO MOVE WHEEL CLOSER TO ME. THE SWITCH FELT HOT SUDDENLY AND SMOKE WITH A STRONG BURNING ODOR STARTING TO FILL THE CABIN. I COULD NOT SEE AND PULLED OVER. THE STEERING COLUMN STOPPED SMOKING AFTER ABOUT 3 MINUTES. TOOK CAR TO DEALER. WAITED A WEEK FOR NEW SWITCH TO BE PUT IN. DEALER SAID SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND SHORTED OUT. CAR WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED AND I PICKED UP CAR A WEEK LATER. APPROXIMATELY $250.00. I STARTED DRIVING HOME FROM DEALER WITH NEW SWITCH AND DECIDED TO TRY NEW SWITCH. IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY I-84 PULLED SWITCH AND ONCE AGAIN , HOT SMOKE BURNING FILLED THE CABIN. PULLED OVER WAITED FOR "FIRE" TO SUBSIDE AND THEN BROUGHT BACK CAR TO DEALER. DEALER SAID SWITCH IS NOW ON BACKORDER AS WELL AS SOME MODULE THAT ALSO NEEDED REPLACEMENT RELATED TO IT AND I HAVE CAR BUT HAVE TO WAIT FOR SWITCH TO BE MADE BEFORE I CAN BRING CAR BACK FOR REPAIR. *TR

WHILE MAKING A TIGHT U-TURN TO THE LEFT IN MY 2005 CORVETTE THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKES LOCKED AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. AT THE SAME TIME THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DIC (DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER). THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO PULL HARD AND MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT I BLEW OUT A TIRE. THOUGH DIFFICULT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I TURNED OFF THE CAR. I THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN WHEN THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THERE WAS ONE TIME A COUPLE OF DAYS PRIOR THAT THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" MESSAGE SHOWED OF THE DIC BUT NO NOTICEABLE PROBLEMS CAME ABOUT. I TALKED TO MY LOCAL DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS AN ERROR FROM DRIVING ON WET ROADS SINCE THE LIGHT DIDN'T APPEAR AGAIN AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR. I BELIEVED THIS AND RETURNED TO DRIVING UNTIL YESTERDAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION TO THIS MATTER IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF GM WILL ISSUE A PROPER FIX. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE TODAY AND HAVE FOUND A TSB ABOUT INSTALLING A CLIP IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHERE THE WIRES PLUG INTO THE STEERING SENSOR BUT THAT THIS MAY NOT BE THE FIX FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2010 I WAS DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON MY 2005 CORVETTE SHUT DOWN. POWER TO THE CAR WAS CUT OFF LEAVING ME WITH NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. I COULD NOT STEER, BRAKE OR EVEN EXIT THE CAR AS EVERYTHING IS ELECTRICALLY CONTROLLED. IN ORDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT THE ONLY WAY I HAD OF STOPPING THE CAR WAS TO THROW IT INTO PARK AT ABOUT 35 MPH. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, HOWEVER, THIS PRESENTS A LARGE SAFETY CONCERN. HAD I BEEN TRAVELING FASTER OR HAD BEEN ON THE FREEWAY THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT HAD TO DO WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, HOWEVER, THEY DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT'S WRONG AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THEY BASICALLY ARE SUGGESTING I DRIVE IT AWAY. I TOLD THEM IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN IT COULD KILL ME AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS, "YEAH, SOMETIMES THAT HAPPENS". THERE IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH MY CORVETTE THAT I BELIEVE IS TIED TO FAULTS IN THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM. I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY FOLLOWING A LEFT CURVE WHEN I FELT THE BRAKES GRAB. I SAW "ACTIVE HANDLING" DISPLAYED; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO REASON FOR ACTIVE HANDLING TO OCCUR (ROADWAY WAS DRY, WAS DRIVING AT POSTED SPEED LIMIT, WAS NOT MAKING A SUDDEN TURNING MANEUVER). LATER I SAW THAT THE CAR WAS DISPLAYING A FRONT RIGHT TIRE PRESSURE OF 0 PSI, BUT NO OTHER WARNINGS OCCURRED (TYPICALLY, A YELLOW WARNING LIGHT GOES ON AN CAR DISPLAYS A LOW TIRE PRESSURE OR RIGHT FRONT TIRE FLAT WARNING WHEN THIS OCCURS). I'VE HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM AND CHEVY HAS ATTEMPTED REPAIR ONCE. USUALLY ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES WILL READ ZERO PSI AND THE AFOREMENTIONED WARNINGS WILL APPEAR, AND THE CAR'S ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM WILL ENGAGE MORE EASILY, THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER, THE CAR WILL DISPLAY NORMAL TIRE PRESSURES AGAIN. IN THE INCIDENT I'M DESCRIBING HERE, THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS BEING READ AT ZERO, AND NO INDICATION THAT ACTIVE HANDLING WOULD ENGAGE SO EASILY. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OR A CRASH. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE CAR SERVICED IN TWO DAYS. *TR

EACH DEALER QUESTIONED IF I HAD PUT IT IN REVERSE AS INSTRUCTED, AND SINCE I'VE HAD THE CAR ALMOST 2.5 YEARS, I TOLD BOTH OF THEM CLEARLY I KNOW THE PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW. *JB

DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2005 CORVETTE C6. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ONBOARD COMPUTER THAT WOULD APPLY THE BRAKES TO ANY OF THE FOUR WHEELS IF THE CAR BEGINS TO SPIN. THE ONBOARD COMPUTER ACTIVATED THE RIGHT PASSENGER WHEEL AND MADE THE WHEEL LOCK UP. THE DIC ON THE DASH READ SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT IT FOR A HALF A DAY AND HOOKED THE COMPUTER ONTO THE CAR AND KNOW ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED. THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR AND STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND TOLD HIM TO COME AND PICK UP THE CAR. THAT AFTERNOON OF THE INCIDENT HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE HE PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY HAD IT FOR 13 DAYS AND THEY TRIED TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM THEY CHANGED THE SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT WAS TIED TO ACTIVE THE BRAKING SYSTEM BUT THEY COULD NOT ASSURE HIM THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT REOCCUR WITH A HUNDRED PERCENT CERTAINTY OR EVEN WITH A HIGH PERCENT CERTAINTY. SINCE THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR THIS HAS NOT OCCURRED BUT HE ALSO MANUALLY SHUT THE SYSTEM DOWN. WHEN THE CONSUMER FIRST STARTED THE CAR THE SYSTEM WAS IN THE ON POSITION AND HE DEACTIVATED IT MANUALLY EVERY TIME HE STARTS THE ENGINE. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVY CORVETTE. ON NOVEMBER 27 2004 THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT LET THEM GET INTO THE CAR AND THE ALARM WOULD NOT GO OFF. ALSO, THE COMPUTER IN THE CAR WOULD TELL THEM THAT THERE WAS NO TIRE PRESSURE AND THE TIRES WERE ON THE VEHICLE AND THE COMPUTER STATED THERE WAS NO PSI. THEY HAD TO CLIMB INTO THE HATCH TO OPEN THE DOOR BECAUSE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN WITH THE KEY. ON APRIL 5, 2005 THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY AND IT DID CORRECT THE PROBLEM UNTIL APRIL 12,2005 AT THAT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED BASICALLY IT WAS THE BATTERY AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM AGAIN THIS TIME. APRIL 16, 2005 THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE JUMPED STARTED. ON APRIL 20, 2005 THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET INTO THE VEHICLE, THE BATTERY VOLTAGE WAS SHOWING ZERO, AND THE PSI ON THREE TIRES WERE SHOWING THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. ON MAY 23, 2005 WITH ONLY 2700 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE SERPENTINE BELT BROKE, IT OVER HEATED, THE ENGINE HAD BLEW AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. AROUND JULY 3RD OR 4TH WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY AND IT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY STOP BECAUSE IT WOULD COME OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL, THE COMPUTER WOULD GIVE THEM STRANGE ERROR MESSAGES. WHEN THEY ARRIVED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT IS WHEN THE HATCH ON THE BACK HAD CAME OPEN BY IT SELF AND IT HAD HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE THIS BUT THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD MAYBE ACCIDENTALLY OPENED IT. ON JULY 12, 2005 THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP THE PASSENGER DRIVER SIDE WINDOW MOLDING WAS MESSED UP. THE CONTACT TOLD THEM TO KEEP THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT WAS FIXED. THEY HAVE NOTICED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE WITH THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEMS. ALSO, ON THE VEHICLE THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO PUT A FULL FUEL TANK OF GASOLINE IN THE VEHICLE SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE. SERVICE INVOICES ARE AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. *NM
