Vehicle has open recall 09v491 for roof panel separation. The roof on the vehicle has separated and come apart in pieces leaving the front seal exposed. Gengras Chevrolet in Ct has ordered and received the replacement panel which has now been sitting at their dealership for approximately 2.5 weeks because they refuse to send it to paint until they rectify the outdated paint supply reimbursement cost with GM. In the meantime I have not had a spot for the vehicle inside and if I dont know its going to rain or dont get the car inside somewhere in time the water leaks down the windshield post and into the body control module. Currently the car drains the battery, gauges intermittently do not work as well as the power windows, starter button etc. from a recent pop up storm. Ive been back and forth with the dealer and spoke to a GM rep, niehter of which have proven useful in the situation. I just keep getting pushed off and told that I have to wait for them to figure it out with GM, even though it could potentially take 2 or more weeks to paint the top once the body shop actually gets it. This whole process has started approximately August 1st.

WHILE PROCEEDING TO DRIVE AGAIN, THE CONTACT HEARD THE SAME NOISE AND AIR WHISTLING. THE CONTACT THOUGHT THE CONVERTIBLE ROOF WAS NOT LATCHED PROPERLY AND PULLED OVER ONCE AGAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THE ROOF WAS LATCHED CORRECTLY AND HE DECIDED TO REMOVE THE TOP. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME FOR THE TOP WAS SEPARATING FROM THE BODY PANEL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

MY 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE STARTED MAKING POPPING AND CRACKING NOISES AT ANY AND ALL RATES OF SPEED SOME TIME AGO. AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, THE WIND NOISE AND WHISTLING SOUNDS ARE ALMOST UNBEARABLE AS THE NOISES ARE SO LOUD. I CONSULTED WITH YOUMAN'S CHEVROLET IN MACON, GA AS THEY ARE THE ONLY CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN OUR ARE AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE TOP HAD STATED TO SEPARATE FROM THE LOWER PART AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A ENTIRE NEW TOP. ONCE AGAIN, THEY DID NOT EVEN CONSIDER CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. NATURALLY, OUR GREATEST CONCERN IS THE POTENTIAL OF THE UPPER PORTION FLYING OFF WHILE WE ARE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND CAUSING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT TO OTHER VEHICLES OR INJURIES. I RECENTLY STARTING TAKING THE CORVETTE MAGAZINE AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, I READ THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TOP. HEADS UP DISPLAY KEEPS FALLING FROM ITS SET POSITION. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN MANY REAR END COLLISION TRYING TO RESET MY HEADS UP DISPLAY. NOW I DON'T EVEN USE THE HEADS UP DISPLAY SINCE IT IS SUCH A PIECE OF JUNK. I BELONG TO CORVETTE FORUM AND HAVE HERD FROM DOZENS OF CORVETTE OWNERS WHO ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THESE HEADS UP DISPLAYS SHOULD BE RECALLED DUE TO POOR DESIGN, POOR MATERIALS DURING MANUFACTURING AND CHEAP MANUFACTURING. THE PROBLEM IS THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY IS BEING HINGED FROM TWO PLASTIC PINS ON EACH END OF THE ASSEMBLY. BASED OF THE SIZE AND WAIT OF THE MIRROR THESE PINS SHOULD BE MADE FROM SOME KIND OF METAL MATERIAL. THIS ISSUE IS BEING EXACERBATED BY THE STIFF RIDE OF THE CORVETTE AS YOU DRIVE THE MIRROR IS BEING BOUNCED AROUND AND IS WEARING DOWN THE PINS HOLDING THE MIRROR. *TR

WATER LEAK IN 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CAUSED VERY STRONG MOLD/MILDEW ODOR IN THE CAR AND DESTROYED THE PASSENGER CARPET AND INSULATION, WHICH WERE REMOVED BY TECHNICIAN 122 AT SUN CHEVROLET IN MCMURRAY, PA ON 1/25/2012. SINCE DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT CARPET OR INSULATION, THE METAL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOES GET EXTREMELY HOT AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS BURNS. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE REMEDIED IMMEDIATELY. RECENTLY A RAIN STORM CAUSED MORE WATER TO LEAK INSIDE AND COLLECT UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND ALMOST DAMAGED THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER FLOOR WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY I HAD A TOWEL WITH ME AND QUICKLY ABSORBED ALL OF THE WATER AND RETURNED BACK HOME TO VACUUM THE REMAINING WATER BEFORE ANYTHING ELECTRIC WAS DAMAGED. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING AND HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP THAT IT MAY BE A FAULTY WEATHER STRIP CAUSING THE WATER LEAK. IF I HAD BEEN GOING FASTER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE CARS ELECTRONICS AND MAY HAVE EVEN CAUSED THE CAR TO SHUT OFF WHICH CAN LEAD TO A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AND CAUSE MAJOR INJURIES OR DEATH. THE WEATHER STRIP SHOULD BE RECALLED AND/OR REPLACED AND THE LEAK REPAIRED BY GENERAL MOTORS LLC AT NO COST BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND A FACTORY DEFECT. I SPENT A LOT OF HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS CAR AND DID NOT EXPECT ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. THIS ISSUE ALONE HAS ALREADY COST ME $235.85 AND HOURS OF MY LIFE THAT I WILL NO'T GET BACK. THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER RESOLVED IN 2012 AND ONLY GOT WORSE. THE COST OF THE CARPET AND INSULATION, THAT WERE DAMAGED AND REMOVED, IS ALMOST $1,000 FOR REPLACEMENTS AND LABOR. GENERAL MOTORS LLC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LEAK AND SHOULD PROVIDE THESE ITEMS AT NO COST AS WELL AS A REPLACEMENT WEATHER STRIP THAT DOES NOT LEAK AS THE ORIGINAL IS A FACTORY DEFECT. ROOF LAMINATE WAS REPLACED AS PART OF A MANUFACTURER RECALL A FEW YEARS AGO. BUT CRACKING NOISE CONTINUED UNTIL TODAY AFTER A LOUD KNOCK, THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE ROOF STARTED LEAKING AIR BADLY. PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THE ROOF BODY AND NOT JUST THE LAMINATE HAD SEPARATED FROM ITS FRAME. OPENED ROOF LATCHES AND WHILE REMOVING THE DETACHABLE ROOF, BOTH REAR METAL PINS THAT MECHANICALLY HOLD THE ROOF TO THE FRAME FELL TO THE GROUND. THREADED SECTION OF BOTH PINS HAD SHEARED OFF AND ROOF WAS ONLY HELD IN PLACE BY THE REAR CENTER HOOK. APPARENTLY MATERIAL AND PIN DESIGN IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THE TORQUE THAT THE ROOF GOES THROUGH AGAINST THE FRAME DURING NORMAL DRIVING RESULTING IN COMPLETE SEPARATION OF THE ROOF. *TR

A RECALL EXISTS FOR ALL 05-07 C6 OEM CORVETTE REMOVABLE TARGA TOPS. THE GLUE BOND HOLDING THE REMOVABLE TOP TO ITS FRAME BREAKS WITH TEMPERATURE CHANGES, AND THE TOPS BREAK AWAY AND FLY OFF THE CAR. OVER TIME, AIR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AIR EVENTUALLY BLOWS UNDER THE TOP AND PULLS IT OFF THE FRAME. AS PART OF THE RECALL REPAIR, GM INJECTED FOAM UNDER THE THIN PLASTIC TOP INTO THE ROOF FRAME TO PREVENT THE AIR FROM ENTERING AND RIPPING THE TOP OFF. THEY DID NOT ADDRESS THE REAL PROBLEM WITH THE GLUE NOT HOLDING THE TOP ON. THEY ONLY ADDRESSED A SYMPTOM OF THE REAL PROBLEM TO AVOID THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. MY TOP HAD MONTHS OF AIR LEAKING UNDER IT, A LOT OF NOISE OVER THAT PERIOD, AND THE FOAM INJECT RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED WITH A PREVIOUS OWNER. GM DENIED MY SAFETY RECALL CLAIM STATING THEY INJECTED THE FOAM, BUT IN REALITY THEY ONLY TREATED A SYMPTOM. GM USED A LEGAL RUN-AROUND TO AVOID HAVING TO REPLACE THE TOP, SAYING THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AND MET THE NHTSA RECALL. ALL THEY DID WAS INJECT SOME FOAM. THEY DID NOT CORRECT THE GLUE PROBLEM AND MEET THE BURDEN OF CORRECTION ACCORDING TO THE RECALL. I WAS ABLE TO GRAB ONTO THE TOP THROUGH MY DRIVERS WINDOW TO HOLD IT DOWN WHEN IT UNEXPECTEDLY STARTED TO RIP OFF, OR IT WOULD HAVE HIT TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, AND CAUSED WRECK(S). AFTER ABOUT 2.5 YEARS THE CONVERTIBLE TOP MECHANISM STARTED GETTING NOISY AND THEN REFUSED TO CLOSE ALL THE WAY. THE DEALER REPAIRED IT UNDER WARRANTY WITH A NEW ELECTRIC MOTOR AND A PUMP REPAIR KIT. ABOUT A YEAR LATER THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR IT UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY SAYING THAT IT WAS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. THE ROOF DETACHED FROM THE TOP OF HIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND REFERRED HIM TO A BODY SHOP, WHERE HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE MANUFACTURER, HOWEVER, ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE DEALER REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CO5 HARDTOP COUPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO INDICATE THAT THE HARDTOP IS NOT LOCKED. OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS, THE AIR PRESSURE CAUSES THE UNLOCKED HARDTOP TO BECOME AIRBORNE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE HARDTOP HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES AND HAS COST THE CONTACT A LOT OF MONEY. HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE HARDTOP COULD DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE AND STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 25,000.

WHILE DRIVING AT 68 MPH ON A TWO HIGHWAY, THE ROOF SECTION FROM A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE AND WENT AIRBORNE. PREVAILING WINDS BLUE THE PANEL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, KEEPING OUT OF FOLLOWING OR ONCOMING TRAFFIC FLOW WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE 102 DEGREE TEMPERATURE APPEARS TO HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE OF THE ADHESIVE HOLDING THE ROOF PANEL TO THE ROOF FRAME. GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON ROOF THAT POTENTIALLY SEPARATES AND COULD CAUSE ACCIDENT; THIS RECALL AFFECTED MY CAR. I SUBMITTED MY CAR FOR INSPECTION IN JUNE 9TH, AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ROOF COULD NOT BE REPAIRED - IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE ROOF WAS ORDERED AND AFTER A MONTH THE WRONG PART WAS SENT. NOW I AM TOLD THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE IN 60 TO 90 DAYS; NO PRECISE DELIVERY DATE. IN TOTAL IT COULD BE 90 TO 120 DAYS TOTAL WITH ME OWNING A VEHICLE THAT POTENTIALLY COULD BE A HAZARD, ON TOP OF PRODUCING A VERY ANNOYING CRACKING & POPPING NOISE WHILE DRIVING.
