Had a 3-5-R wave plate failure. Symptoms started at around 87,000 miles. Bouncing/jerking when put into reverse. 5th gear slams hard into gear when upshifting and downshifting, making it feel like I have been rear ended. Now 3rd gear is starting to shift hard like 5th. Soon I'll have no gears. Car has been both regular and preventative maintained so should not have such a massive failure at under 100k miles. Other vehicles with the same transmission (6t40) have been recalled due to similar issues, like the 1.4 turbocharged Cruze, but not the 1.8l Cruze for whatever reason. Now I have to pay $4k for a rebuild on something that Chevrolet should be liable to pay.

Car started jerking when put in reverse and slams hard into 5th gear only. Taken to transmission shop and they have no idea what's causing it. They said they've never seen something like this before, and said it doesn't feel like a major transmission failure. Car only had 98,000 miles on it when hard shifting started. Regularly maintained. Motor and trans mounts were checked and fine. More than normal amounts of metal in trans fluid when drain and fill was performed.

My car keeps telling me my trunk is open then it dings constantly going back and forth from tire monitor system to the trunk open. Then Everytime I turn the car off I have to wiggle the battery cable to get my car to start and my power steering keeps going out. I'm aware there are recalls.for my car but beings my check engine light is on they r refusing to fix my car. I don't understand. I thought recalls were mandatory and had to be fixed. This car barely has 85,000 miles on it. I shouldn't be having all these issues. It's all electrical it seems like. I need help.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle lost motive power after 45 minutes. The RPM increased, and the vehicle failed to accelerate. The driver was able to pull over. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that after driving for 45 minutes, the vehicle lost power and went into LIMP Mode. The transmission had seized in fifth gear. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the speed control sensor had failed. The contact was informed that the speed valve and transmission control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Car started blowing out white smoke and tranny fluide out tailpipe and then loosing power as inside of car filled with burnt plastic smell and smoke. On 08-03-2023 I test drove car. Upon entering car I commented a out smell of car. Left lot with car at approx 6:30pm, on 08-06-2023 at approx 4pm incident occurred and now that smell is even stronger inside car. So leaves me to believe it was already an issue and a possible life threatning one at that. Possiblity of igniting a fire . Transmission fluid is very flammable when heat source of engine and fluide trapped by shield. So engine was shut down immediately and we got out of car till we knew it didnt ignite.

The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was later taken to the local transmission service center and the transmission was rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

I am wondering when GM is gonna admit fault on these Chevy Cruzes? My mechanic father owns one. He's had to replace Valve cover gasket on his 3x. Mine at least 4-5x now. One bad oil change at a dealership almost cost me my engine at Sunfair Chevrolet. They left 2 rings on the oil fuel filter causing it to leak all over my engine compartment which left me roadside the next day after driving it 2 hours the night before back in Aug 2016. So they gave us 10K miles over this incident in case my engine blew. It ran a bit hotter than it did before this incident. I also noticed a burning smell. Enclosed in the scanned documents you will find a letter from Chevrolet discussing a "engine light" coming on and engine coolant leak from the water pump reservoir leading to a drip of coolant onto the engine or onto the ground. Overtime, the loss of coolant will reduce cooling performance and eventually could lead to engine overheating. Well, that isn't the only issue. Look at my scanned documents to see how many times the valve cover has been the issue. Always the engine light coming on and pull codes. A mechanic friend, replaced the valve cover gasket for me before it became a recall to save me$. Engine light came on again in 1 year. The PCV valve was built into the valve cove creating a chronic problem. Leads to a loss of turbo power. The last time manifold had to be repaired, they lifted the valve cover to get to it; leaked oil one day after my husband just replaced it. We assumed that was the issue (again), so instead of taking it in, he replaced the seal before taking it in. Someone please help us. Last fix was Aug. 2023, one day after it was in the shop. over $1200 in repairs I called GM, they told me to take it into the dealership. They focused on an oil leak from oil feed line. 4 days in still wasn't repaired. 1-20-14 I think was first incident of a valve cover issue. This is only 2 years after the car was "NEW". 137K miles on it now. Faithful with oil changes.

The cars turbo system fails. This causes a loss of power when accelerating. Pulling out into traffic or merging onto the freeway are all unsafe now as the car suddenly doesn't accelerate. This can cause crashes. I have pulled out and assumed I was at a very safe distance only to have the car not pick up as it usually does. I feel very unsafe.

Clutch pedal began sinking down to the floor with little to no resistance, car would have trouble shifting took it to the dealer, I don't know what they did but it fixed it temporarily. Went to see another car for purchase a few days after with it and on my way back clutch failed completely, clutch pedal sunken all the way to the floor with no possible way to shift I was stuck. Towed it to have it "fixed" sold it to carvana, don't buy one manual or auto

I have filed a complaint 2 other times on my car from the power train to the electrical and now my radiator. Because of the date of my car, which is one week off, my car doesn't fall under all the recalls that have been made. Everything wrong with my car is a recall including the head gasket! I have paid to fix my car out of pocket every time and now the repair isn't worth fixing because i never know whats going to happen next! Just like every other government agency NHTSA is controlled by the big corporations while the little guy gets screwed over! Times are hard as is now throw in this plandemic and car problems life becomes unmanageable at times.

The transmission is a known issue, so much so they issued a service bulletin. The transmission will give out or shift very abruptly or shift in to neutral without warning and at various speeds. Our specific case was sudden downshift while travelling about 65 mph, then shifted into neutral which turned the engine off causing an abrupt stop then eventual release and had to coast to a stop. We then got a code for transmission code that a mechanic inspected and tried to replace a part they said the code was most likely related to. The mechanic then stated that if this did not fix it, it would require complete replacement of transmission. The independent service provider confirmed that it was indeed related to an internal service notice for GM. They did not give us the related number. We also received a notice to bring the car in for related notice if the car was under certain mileage however they knew our vehicle was over since they do all the service. In research, this is a common problem where Chevrolet is not able to accurately detect, troubleshoot and repair. It is a known issue however we are on the hook for the repair when this is clearly a design issue and a severe safety issue.

The contact also stated that the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road; then drove the vehicle to her residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not determine the cause of the failure since the unknown warning lights were no longer illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis once the warning lights were again illuminated. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AT ANAHEIM AUTO HUB LAST JUNE 6, 2020 FOR MY DAUGHTER. COUPLE MONTHS LATER IT STARTED LEAKING AND SMELLS LIKE BURNING OIL. AND THE STABILI TRACK SENSOR AND THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSORS CAME ON. AND, AS WELL AS THE KEY GOT STUCK INSIDE THE IGNITION COUPLE OF TIMES. SO I TOOK IT THE MECHANIC TO GET THE LEAKS FIX. THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE VALVE COVER GASKET LEAK AND VALVE TIMING SOLENOID. SO THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE VALVE GASKET COVER AND THE VALVE TIMING SOLENOID LEAK, AND RIGHT AFTER THAT BEING SAID, ONE WEEK LATER WE FOUND LEAKING SO, I TOOK IT BACK TO MECHANIC AGAIN, NOW THEY FOUND 3 DIFFERENT LEAK, FROM THE OIL COOLER LEAK, ENGINE OIL PAN GASKET AND LEAKING ON ENGINE TIMING COVER GASKET. THERE WERE NO CODES AND NO WARNING. PREVIOUS MECHANIC SENT US TO THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED ME THAT NO CODES WERE CLEARED.

DAUGHTER HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT LOSS OF POWER WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE IN KANSAS CITY. ON THIS PARTICULAR MORNING, MY HUSBAND PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OUT OF FIRST GEAR. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT DOWN THE STREET TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. IT WAS INITIALLY JUST DIAGNOSED WITH A CRACKED TURBO. WE TOLD THEM TO REPLACE IT. THEY REPLACED IT AND THEN DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION WAS BURNED UP. THE MECHANIC SAID HE THOUGHT THE FACT THAT THE TURBO DIDN'T WORK PROPERLY CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO BURN OUT AT 85,000 MILES. HAVE HAD PROBLEMS ON AND OFF FOR A YEAR WITH THE TURBO AND HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN IT IN AND HAD THOSE ISSUES FIXED AS SOON AS THE LIGHT COMES ON THE DASH. FINALLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TURBO AND WE HAD THE ACTUATOR REPLACED IN NOV. 2019 AND LESS THAN A MONTH LATER, THE TURBO CRACKED AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NO LIGHT EVER CAME ON, ON THE DASH. HAD TO SPEND $5400 TO FIX THESE ISSUES. I'M CONCERNED AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE ISN'T A COMPLETE RECALL ON THE TURBOS AS WE'VE READ IN MANY PLACES THAT PEOPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THESE TURBOS, LEAVING HUGE COSTS TO CONSUMERS. TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT 46,942 MILES IN 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE ON 10/14/19. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AT NIGHT. LUCKILY I WAS ON A SMALL, EMPTY ROAD IN TOWN CLOSE TO HOME. THE ENGINE REVVED BUT WOULD NOT UP SHIFT. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF HOPING IT MIGHT BE A COMPUTER ISSUE. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, THE SHIFTER MOVED BUT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. TOWED IT TO MY DEALER, WERE IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED. THE CAUSE WAS A WAVE PLATE FAILURE; GEARS 3-5-R WERE LOST. DECIDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A NEW ONE TO THE TUNE OF $4,500. CONTACTED GM/CHEVROLET. WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE AS FAR AS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GOES. THE CAR WAS OUT OF THE 5-YEAR/100,000 WARRANTY PERIOD. I HAD JUST FINISHED PAYING IT OFF. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES, AND IS CONSERVATIVELY DRIVEN. THE ORIGINAL BRAKE PADS STILL HAVE HALF THEIR LIFE LEFT. IT IS A PROBLEM WHEN A MODERN CAR CAN NOT GET TO 50,000 BEFORE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE LIKE THIS HAPPENS. I SENT GM CORPORATE A LETTER OF COMPLAINT ASKING THEM TO INVESTIGATE THE OLD TRANSMISSION. CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE PRICE OF A SHODDY PRODUCT. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THIS CAUSES SERIOUS ISSUES? I WAS GIVEN A $100 VOUCHER FOR FUTURE REPAIRS OR SERVICES FOR MY TROUBLE. THAT WAS A KINDNESS FROM A CUSTOMER SERVICE STANDPOINT, BUT NOT ON A CORPORATE LEVEL. I WANTED MY ISSUE TO BE HEARD BY THE BOSSES, BUT LIKE ANY BIG COMPANY IT GOES UNHEARD AND DISREGARDED. PEOPLE NEED TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST BIG COMPANIES. I UNDERSTAND SOMETIMES THINGS BREAK, BUT NOT WHEN THE MACHINE IS TAKEN CARE OF. FLUKES DON'T HAPPEN CONSISTENTLY, AND THIS IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THESE DRIVE TRAINS. I WAS GOING TO KEEP THE CAR ANYWAY AND GET A NEWER ONE IN THE SPRING. NOT NOW. WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE (2012 CHEVY CRUZE) ON THE HIGHWAY (I-75 NORTH BETWEEN AUBURN HILLS AND CLARKSTON), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS, RPM'S FLUCTUATE AND THE AUTOMOBILE LOSES ACCELERATION EVEN THOUGH THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED. THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER LIGHT (P, R, D) BLINKS RAPIDLY. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE SEEMS TO LOSE POWER. THE VEHICLE DID THIS MULTIPLE TIMES AS POWER AND ACCELERATION WAS LOST. UPON RECEIVING A DIAGNOSTIC READING, THE CODE INDICATED A TRANSMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM OR OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR. I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT DUE TO THE UNSAFE DECELERATION OF SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE POTENTIAL FOR A FATAL ACCIDENT IS GREAT. ADDITIONALLY, THIS MODEL SEEMS TO HAVE AN ISSUE DUE TO SEVERAL ON-LINE INQUIRIES AND COMPLAINTS.

I NOTICED THAT MY VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE HAVING ISSUES WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE, SO I TOOK IT IN. I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS A COMPLETELY UNRELATED ISSUE, AND HAD TO DO WITH A CRACK RUNNING THROUGH THE MANIFOLD. THIS WAS CAUSING OIL AND COOLANT TO LEAK ONTO THE ALTERNATOR. IF I HAD NOT CAUGHT THIS EARLY ENOUGH, THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT FIXED. THEY REPAIRED THE LEAK, BUT A COUPLE WEEKS LATER I NOTICED MY CAR LOSING SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF COOLANT/OIL. THIS IS CAUSING OIL AND COOLANT TO AFFECT THE TURBO SETTING OF MY MANUAL CAR, AND HAS COST ME UP TO $2,000 IN REPAIRS. THIS HAS BEEN THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM AS TO WHY I HAD TO GET MY FLYWHEEL REPLACED 2 YEARS AGO, WHICH WAS ANOTHER $1,500. THIS IS ALSO WHAT CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE 3 YEARS AGO, ANOTHER THOUSAND DOLLARS. I NOTED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN LEAKING FLUID AFTER BEING STATIONARY OR MOVING WHILE/AFTER RUNNING FOR 10 MINUTES OR LONGER.

I BOUGHT THE CAR USED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO FROM A CERTIFIED CHEVY DEALERSHIP. AT THE TIME I HAD CONCERNS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT WAS SHIFTING HARD (ESPECIALLY WHEN IT DOWN-SHIFTED AT LOW SPEED) SO I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT. I ALSO HAD A FEW OTHER ISSUES LIKE AN ANTI-FREEZE ODOR. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION ADAPTS TO THE PERSON DRIVING IT, SO I ATTRIBUTED THE PROBLEM TO THAT AND FIGURED IT WOULD "RE-LEARN" HOW I DROVE AND ADJUST. WELL, IT NEVER DID, AND SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE TRANS COMPLETELY GAVE OUT DRIVING WHILE I ON ON MY RURAL BACK-ROADS. SEVERAL MONTHS AND TWO TRANSMISSIONS LATER, THE MESSAGE "TRANSMISSION HOT IDLE ENGINE" PERSISTS AND NO ONE CAN FIND THE REASON WHY.

OUR CHEVY CRUZE HAD STARTED SHIFTING STRANGE WHILE DRIVING, LOSING POWER AND IT WOULD START TO IDLE ROUGH, AND JUST SHUT OFF, A DAY LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WE RAN A CODE SCANNER ON IT TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. 7 ERROR CODES CAME UP AND IT ALL LED TO A FAILED PCV VALVE. TWO DAYS LATER IT WAS IN THE SHOP AND WE ARE NOW FACED WITH A MAJOR REPAIR COST.

THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO PAY 10% OF THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

FROM THE TIME I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE (OFF LEASE) THE TRANSMISSION NEVER FELT RIGHT. THE CAR WOULD JERK FROM GEAR TO GEAR AND THE RPMS WOULD SKY ROCKET. I EXPRESSED THIS CONCERN MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THEY ASSURED ME EVERYTHING WAS OKAY AND THAT IT WAS JUST THE TYPE OF TRANSMISSION. AFTER JUST GETTING MY CAR OUT OF THE SHOP FOR A SEPARATE ISSUE THE CRUZE LEFT ME ON THE SIDE OF A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY THAT IS NOTORIOUS FOR ACCIDENTS. AS I TRIED TO SPEED UP THE RPMS WOULD ONCE AGAIN SKY ROCKET BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE OF THIS HAPPENING I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK I SAT FOR A MOMENT. WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE THE CAR JUST WOULD NOT MOVE. I TRIED FORWARD AND REVERSE AND NEITHER WORKED. SO THERE I SAT WITH CAR WHIZZING BY ME WITH A CAR THAT DID NOT WORK. AFTER TOWING THE CAR TO THE SHOP HE GAVE ME THE GUT WRENCHING NEW THAT MY 7 YEAR OLD CAR'S TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. I NOW HAVE A $4,000 REPAIR WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD. OH AND THE KICKER IS I OWE $8,000 STILL.

I REGULARLY MAINTENANCE MY CAR AND ONLY HAVE 60,409 MILES ON IT (MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES). A CAR THIS YOUNG AND WITH THAT FEW MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. NOV 27, 2018 TOWED TO LOCAL GM DEALER WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED FOR EVALUATION. COMPLAINT:THIS CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY ON TIME ONLY. IT HAS A SEALED TRANNY AND THE FIRST RECOMMENDED FLUID CHANGE IS 97,500 MILES. OBVIOUSLY DRIVEN CAREFULLY AND DAILY WITHOUT NEGLECT FOR ONLY 51,000 MILES. SHOULD NOT HAVE MAJOR UN-WARRANTIED TRANSMISSION ISSUES. RESEARCHED THIS CONDITION ON FORUMS ETC. THE DEALER HAD TO DIAGNOSE THE CAR WHICH WAS $125.00 I GOT A CALL LATE AFTERNOON THE NEXT DAY AND WAS TOLD THE 3T AND 5T WAVE / CLUTCH PLATES BROKE IN MY CAR AND THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THEM AS WELL AS THE CLUTCH, PISTON, SEALS, ECT AND THE COST WOULD BE $3100.00 PLEASE ALSO KEEP IN MIND I OWE $900 ON THE CAR, THE SERVICE DEPT SAID WE HOPE GM WILL PAY FOR MAJORITY OR MOST OF THE COST BC THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED. I SPENT 4 HOURS PUTTING GLUE PUTTY IN THE CRACKS ON THE BOTTOM INTAKE MANIFOLD, TO PLENUM JUNCTION CORNERS OF CYLINDERS 2 AND 4 BECAUSE OF THE GM PLASTIC [XXX], CURING THE LOW BOOST AND LEAN MIXTURE CODES AT IDLE, ON EASTER. THE FIRST MONTH I HAD THE CAR THE TRANSMISSION WOULD START IN FIRST SKIP SECOND GEAR REV UP THEN CHIRP THE TIRES UNTIL IT WARMED UP, AND WAS FIXED BY A PROGRAM CHANGE TO A LESSER VERSION AND NOW AT THE HIGHER MILEAGE IT WAITS BEFORE IT ENGAGES FIRST AT ALL. NO SERIOUS ISSUES FOR A WHOLE WEEK I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT BY MAY IT'S BEEN 5 MONTHS SINCE THEN. FYI THE DEALERSHIP WHO PERFORMED THIS FANCY WORK IS NOT IN RIVERTON EITHER.

COMPLAIMED OF SAME PROBLEM IN OCTOBER 2014 (GM CASE 71-1379518666); AGAIN DEALER "UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM". 2ND FAILURE OCCURRED AUGUST 2015; CLUTCH PLATE WAS STUCK TO TRANSAXLE. MILEAGE WAS 14,500. GM CASE #8-1545250753. GM TRIED TO ATTRIBUTE FAILURE TO "NORMAL WEAR". ULTIMATE COVERED THE REPAIR BUT REFUSED TO ADMIT ANY DEFECT. 3RD FAILURE OCCURRED MARCH 9, 2018. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CALLED FOR A RIDE. THANKFULLY A NLR POLICE OFFICER SAT WITH ME UNTIL MY BOYFRIEND CAME AS I WAS BROKE DOWN ON A BAD SIDE OF TOWN. THAT BEING SAID, WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO OUR ASE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AS WE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE THERMOSTAT STICKING. NOPE! BLOWN HEAD GASKET! ALL BECAUSE OF A FAULTY WATER INLET. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM ALL ACROSS THE FORUMS. MY MECHANIC HAD REPLACED NUMEROUS INLETS ON THESE CARS AND CHEVY HAD YET TO DO A RECALL. I CONTACTED GM AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THEY ARE ONLY REPLACING FAULTY WATER PUMPS, EVEN THOUGH THE WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT PARTS INCLUDE THE WATER INLET. I WAS TOLD I HAD TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED BY THEIR DEALERSHIP AND AFTER MUCH BACK AND FORTH FINALLY GOT THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE WAIVED. I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY FROM THE DEALER INFORMING ME THAT I HAVE A CRACKED HEAD, WARPED GASKET, AND NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THIS IS ALL DUE TO A DEFECT THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS ABOUT. TO TOO IT OFF THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED IN MARCH AND MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED 5K MILES AGO. CHEVY WANTS ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE ALL THE DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED FROM THEIR DEFECT. I AM CONTACTING THE BBB, MY ATTORNEY GENERAL, AND ANY NEWS OUTLET I CAN TO GET THIS ISSUE BROUGHT TO LIGHT. THE SHIFTER INDICATOR ON THE DASH WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE WILL NOT APPEAR ALL THE TIME CAUSING ENGINE TO MISFIRE TURNING OFF TRACTION CONTROL AND STABILITY CAUSING THE CAR TO GO INTO LIMP MODE WHEN STARTING THE CAR FROM THE STATIONARY POSITION. AS OF YESTERDAY WHEN SHIFTING INTO GEAR THE TRANSMISSION WENT COMPLETELY OUT. CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TOLD IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I DROVE BACK HOME TO PARK IT FOR FEAR OF THE ENGINE EXPLODING. OUR FAMILY MECHANIC CHECKED THE ENGINE AND SAID THAT THE FAN IS TOO LOUD AS IF SOMETHING IS CAUSING IT TO BE OVERWORKED. THE ENGINE FAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOUD AFTER MY OIL CHANGE ON JULY 21, 2017. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS NOT BEEN TURNED OFF SINCE THE OIL CHANGE AND I KNOW THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. AFTER HAVING AN AUTO MECHANIC SHOP LOOK AT THE CAR ON 10/31/2016 WE DISCOVERED THAT THE OIL LINE FROM THE BLOCK OR WHERE THE OIL SUPPLY COMES FROM FOR THE TURBO HAD BEEN A PLASTIC LINE THAT HAD MELTED AND STOPPED OIL FROM FLOWING TO THE TURBO CHARGER. THIS APPEARS TO BE A POOR DESIGN ON GM'S PART TO USE PLASTIC LINES FOR SOMETHING THAT WILL OBVIOUSLY BE TRANSFERRING HOT OIL. THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYS HAVE BEEN GOING ON AND OFF UNDER A WIDE VARIETY OF DRIVING SITUATIONS, AND WHILE SITTING AT IDLE. THEY FAULT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SIMPLY DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. DURING THESE FAULTS, THE CENTER INFORMATION DISPLAY FOR THE HVAC AND ENTERTAINMENT WILL FREQUENTLY TURN OFF. THIS KILLS THE RADIO. IT AT TIMES KILLS THE HVAC SYSTEMS AND THE TURN SIGNALS (AT LEAST THE NOISE FOR THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS). AT TIMES, THE CENTER DISPLAY ABOVE THE STEERING COLUMN WILL GO BLACK AND THEN DISPLAY A MESSAGE ABOUT THE STABILITRAK HAVING FAILED AND REQUIRING IT TO BE CHECKED. THEN IT RETURNS TO NORMAL MODE. THIS IS LESS FREQUENT AN OCCURRENCE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY UNDER CRUISE CONTROL, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED ONE INCIDENT OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE THE DISPLAYS WERE IN FAULT MODES. THIS OCCURRED ON APRIL 1, 2015 I BELIEVE. THE DRIVER'S FEET WERE ON THE FLOORBOARDS. NOT TOUCHING ANY PEDALS AT ALL. THE INCIDENT WAS STOPPED BY THE DRIVER FIRMLY PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ROUGHLY 70MPH WHEN CAR SHUDDERED, AND LOST POWER IMMEDIATELY. AFTER THIS THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES DIRECTLY BEHIND ME, SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE DASHBOARD READ THREE ERRORS: "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED", "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL", "SERVICE STABILITRACK". AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, WAITING, AND TURNING BACK ON THE VEHICLE WORKED CORRECTLY, BUT THE ISSUE OCCURRED AFTER ANOTHER 15 MINUTES ON THE ROAD. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED A COMPUTER MODULE WHICH CORRECTED THE GEAR SHIFTING PROBLEM BUT THE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS PERSISTED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN AUGUST 2014 WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, A SECOND VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. BOTH THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SUFFERED HEAD AND NECK INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. FROM THE BEGINNING I HAD A RECALL FOR THE OIL PAN A WEEK AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS TIMES THE HEATING HAD TO BE WORKED ON AND STILL NOT FIXED. TRANSMISSION?? I NOTICED WHEN DRIVING FROM ANYWHERE FROM 30-60 MPH, THAT THE CAR DOES NOT SEEM TO SHIFT RIGHT. IT VIOLENTLY SHAKES BEFORE REACHING THE SHIFT POINT AND THE TACHOMETER WILL SURGE BOTH ON CRUISE AND REGULAR ACCELERATION. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 3X AND THEY TEST DROVE IT, CONFIRMING THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, NO LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS THEY DID WERE INCONCLUSIVE. THEY TOLD ME UNLESS THERE IS A RECALL FOR THAT REASON OR A LIGHT COMES ON FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE, THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE, BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR. I RECEIVED MY CHEVY CRUZE LS IN AUGUST OF 2012 AFTER HAVING IT FOR A WEEK I STARTED TO NOTICE ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I DROVE IT UP NORTH AND AFTER BEING ON THE FREEWAY GOING A CONSTANT SPEED OF 75 MPH, WHEN FORCED TO SLOW DOWN DUE TO TRAFFIC THE CAR COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT I WAS TRYING TO DO AND JUST HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN. THE RPMS WOULD SHOOT UP VERY HIGH AND THE CAR WOULD STRUGGLE TO ACCELERATE (ALMOST AS IF IT WERE STUCK IN NEUTRAL) AND EVENTUALLY IT WOULD JERK FORWARD VERY HARD AND THEN ACCELERATE. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I GET ON THE FREEWAY NOW AND HAVE TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC OR SLOW DOWN TO GET OFF AT THE EXIT (AND CONTINUES WELL AFTER BEING OFF THE FREEWAY). I AM LUCKY I HAVEN'T BEEN REAR ENDED AND SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED. THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE A VACUUM PUMP, THE ENGINE SHIELD RECALL, THE BRAKES STICK, THERE IS A HORRIBLE SMELL OF HOT TRANSMISSION FLUID CONSTANTLY, THE TRANSMISSION COOLANT LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED, A PUMP ABOVE THE FUEL TANK HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE CAR SURGES AND CAUSES THE RPM GAUGE TO BOUNCE, THE AXLES HAVE HAD LEAKS FIXED, THE EXTERIOR TRUNK BUTTON DOESN'T WORK, DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IT SOUNDS LIKE A PLASTIC BOTTLE IS STUCK INSIDE THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR, SOME TIMES AFTER PUTTING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IT WON'T TURN, THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM POPS AND CRACKS, THE AXLE SQUEALS, SHIFTS AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES OR NOT WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO, THE BACK UP SENSOR WILL BEEP WHEN NOTHING IS THERE SOME TIMES, DOESN'T FEEL LIKE THERE IS ANY PRESSURE BEHIND THE BRAKES SOME TIMES, AND SMOKE ROW OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHEN STOPPED AT STOP LIGHTS SOME TIMES. I THINK THAT IS EVERY THING BUT IT HAS BEEN A CONSTANT NIGHTMARE. I AM GUESSING ON MILES AND DATES, BUT IT WAS NOT VERY LONG AFTER I GOT IT BRAND NEW THAT IT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS. PURCHASED THE CAR ON 28 APRIL 2014 FROM KNOX FORD IN RADCLIFF, KY. NOTICED A FAINT BURNING SMELL. WAS ADVISED THAT I RODE THE CLUTCH DURING THE TEST DRIVE. HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT AND WAS ADVISED IT WAS GOOD TO GO. THE CAR WAS DELIVERED ON 30 APRIL. IT WAS FINALLY DRIVEN ON 5 MONDAY 2014 DOWN TO FORT CAMPBELL, KY. AT THAT POINT THE CAR REEKED OF BURNING CERAMIC AND THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP COMPLETELY. AFTER RESTING IT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND RESTATING THE CAR, IT REENGAGED. CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS ADVISED TO GO TO LOCAL CHEVY DEALER FOR ASSESSMENT. CHEVY DEALER ADVISED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS READING THAT IT WAS OUT OF CENTER AND DISENGAGING. WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT A PART OF THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY HAD BEEN REPLACED A FEW THOUSAND MILES PREVIOUSLY AND SEEMED TO BE RUBBING INCORRECTLY. KNOX FORD ADVISED ME TO RETURN THE CAR TO THEIR DEALERSHIP (120 MILES AWAY) AND THEY WOULD WORK ON THE CAR. UPON LEAVING THE OTHER DEALERSHIP, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AGAIN AND DIDN'T REENGAGE. DROVE THE CAR 120 MILES WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND RETURNED TO KNOX FORD TO HAVE THEM TAKE TO TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS REPLACED AND THE CAR ALIGNED. THE CHEVY DEALER COULDN'T FIND AN ISSUE WITH THE CLUTCH. RECLAIMED THE CAR ON 16 MAY 2014 AND DROVE THE CAR BACK DOWN TO FORT CAMPBELL TODAY 19 MAY 2014. ONCE AGAIN, THE BURNING SMELL HAS RETURNED. THE RADIO AND DASH BOARD LIGHTS (SERVICE STABILITRAK) HAVE BEEN FLASHING ON AND OFF THEN THIS EVENING WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD, THE "SERVICE POWER STEERING" LIGHT FLASHED ON AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I FIND OUT THAT THIS RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED ON 06/22/12.(NHTSA CAMPAIGN #:12V288000) WHY WAS I SOLD A VEHICLE THAT WAS UNDER RECALL FOR 3 MONTHS? AND WAS NEVER EVEN MENTIONED PRIOR OR POST SALE. ONSTAR HAD TO NOTIFY ME AND THEN I HAD TO GET IT FIXED. MY SECOND CONCERN IS THAT THERE IS AN COOLANT SMELL IN THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE AND ALTHOUGH NOT ALWAYS NOTICEABLE, IT IS MORE NOTICEABLE IN COLDER WEATHER. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY PLAYED STUPID AND SAID THEY DON'T SMELL ANYTHING AND THAT THE SMELL COULD BE A "DIRTY CABIN AIR-FILTER"? NOBODY WANTS TO SMELL COOLANT WHEN DRIVING!! MY THIRD CONCERN IS THAT WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A DEAD STOP OR ACCELERATING AFTER LETTING OFF THE GAS FOR A SECOND THE VEHICLE ALMOST ALWAYS SHIFTS ROUGHLY. THE BILLY NAVARRE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY STATING THAT A GM FIELD SERVICE REP HAS INSPECTED THE CAR AND HAS DETERMINED THAT THE CLUTCH FAILURE WAS DUE TO OPERATOR ABUSE/MISUSE. IN ADDITION, THE DEALERSHIP STATES THAT THE CLUTCH IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY AND SUBJECT TO FAIR WEAR AND TEAR ALTHOUGH I PURCHASED THE GM EXTENDED WARRANTY AS WELL. IS IT NORMAL FOR A CLUTCH TO FAIL AT 8000 MILES? CERTAINLY NOT! MY DAUGHTER HAS NEVER 'RIDDEN' THE CLUTCH NOR ABUSED THE VEHICLE AS SPECULATED BUT HAS DRIVEN THE CAR IN A SAFE AND PROPER MANNER USING NORMAL OPERATING PROCEDURES IAW THE OPERATOR'S MANUAL. BUT NOW WITH THE HEAT SHIELD COMPLETELY GONE, THERE NOW IS NO PROTECTION FROM DEBRIS ENTERING UNDER THE HOOD AND CAUSING MORE DAMAGE, ALSO WITH THIS FIX GM IS COMPROMISING THE BIGGEST SELLING POINT OF THIS CAR WHICH IS THE GAS MILEAGE, THIS SHIELD IS ALSO USED TO REDUCE DRAG UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND IN TURN INCREASING GAS MILEAGE, BUT NOW DRAG WILL INCREASE UNDERHOOD WHICH WILL DECREASE FUEL MILEAGE. IN VERY WET CLIMATES THIS SHIELD HELPED PREVENT WATER FROM SPRAYING UP UNDER THE HOOD AS WELL, AND BY REMOVING THIS SHIELD OUR CARS ARE NOW MORE PRONE RUST, CORROSION AND ABNORMAL WEAR TO VITAL PARTS. 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE LT1 RS PACKAGE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON JUNE 27 I WAS IN MURRAY, KY DRIVING HOME FROM MURRAY STATE UNIVERSITY. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. AFTER THE LIGHT CHANGED I GAVE THE ACCELERATOR A LIGHT TAP TO MOVE THE CAR FORWARD. IT STARTED SLOWLY BUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS, IT SEEMS THAT THE CAR STALLED. I GOT HOME, ABOUT 2 MILES, WAS UPSET AND SCARED, CALLED APPLE CHEVROLET, THE CAR SAT UNTIL I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 35 MINS FROM MY HOME THE NEXT MORNING. I TOLD THEM THAT IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY DAY SO THE CHANCES OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN ARE SLIM. THIS WOULD BE THE 3RD VISIT TO THE SERVICE DEPT FOR THE LACK OF POWER COMPLAINT. I DROVE WITH THE TECH ANYWAY KNOWING THAT IT WAS NOT GOING TO BE DUPLICATED. I TOLD THE SERVICE REP THAT I WANTED A TURBO BOOST GAUGE PUT ON IT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE BOOSTING ALL THE TIME. WHEN I WAS CALLED THAT MY CAR WAS DONE AND NOTHING WAS DUPLICATED, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BOOSTING IN RANGE. WHEN I PICKED MY CAR UP THE NEXT DAY, THERE WAS NOTHING ON MY BILL THAT STATED THAT THE TURBO WAS EVEN CHECKED. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT PUT EVERY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT THAT THEY USE ON EACH CAR ON EVERY BILL. ETC...

DRIVING DOWNHILL, ONCE I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO REAR AND RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL THIS CAR GOES DOWN AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. I WENT TO A CHEVROLET DEALER, THEY TESTED MY CAR AND ANOTHER 2012 CRUZE FROM THEIR INVENTORY AND BOTH CARS DID THE SAME AS I DESCRIBE ABOVE. HOWEVER, THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED AND NO PROBLEMS FOUND AT THIS TIME. THEN, I CONTACTED GM, GM CONTACTED ITS DEALER, AND THREE DAYS LATER GM CALLED ME BACK TELLING ME THE SAME 'NO PROBLEMS FOUND'. SO, I REQUESTED A LETTER WHERE GM TELLS ME THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG AND THEY WILL COVER ANY FUTURE ISSUES WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BUT GM TOLD ME THAT THEY CANNOT PROVIDE ME ANY DOCUMENT. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TRANSMISSION FAILURES IN WHICH THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO CHANGE GEARS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING TO SPECIFICATIONS. I JUST BOUGHT A 2012 CHEVY CRUZE. AT TAKE OFF AND TURNING AROUND CURVES AT LOW SPEED THE STEERING AND THE WHEELS SHAKE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. MY 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE ECO WITH THE 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION HAS OCCASIONALLY REFUSED TO GO INTO 4TH GEAR, AND GRINDS OCCASIONALLY WHEN GOING INTO 2ND GEAR. I GET THE GRIND AT ABOUT 1200 RPM AND UP. MOST OF MY SHIFTING IS DONE AT OR BELOW 2500 RPM FOR FUEL ECONOMY REASONS. THE CLUTCH PEDAL CAN BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR, THE ENGINE REV-MATCHED, AND IT WILL STILL BALK/GRIND IN THOSE GEARS.THIS IS MY SECOND MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR AFTER PUTTING 70,000 MILES ON MY FIRST ONE, SO I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITHOUT GRINDING THE GEARS. THE CAR PRESENTLY HAS 4700 MILES ON IT, AND THE PROBLEM STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 1000 MILES. I'M WORRIED THAT I MIGHT NEED TO DO A QUICK SHIFT TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION AND BE UNABLE TO DO SO THANKS TO THE BALKINESS OF THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
