The steering wheel keeps locking up while driving fast/slow or turning. Everything shuts off, then back on and all codes flash. My car literally locks up, it’s really unsafe when I can’t control the vehicle. Almost hit another car, due to steering wheel locking up. Only thing I was told at the Chevy dealer house was there were no recalls. So they wouldn’t look unless they got to charge me. This issue started happening about five months ago. And I drive like a grandma.

The electrical power steering goes in and out while driving. This issue is intermittent. Fuses and ground on electrical system have been check with no issues found.

I financed my car through drivetime in june 2019 and from the time i got the car i have been having electrical issues. My car has also been in a really bad accident prior to me purchasing it and when i tried to return it. They just kept telling me to go to pep boys because I had a 60 day warranty to fix any issues. I should not have had to take my car to any mechanic if I got it from a dealership. I now have really mad transmissin issues and I havent even had the car for 3 years. I believe this company sold me a lemon and i dont know how to prove it. I dont have the money to fix all the issues.

My car often loses power unexpectedly in the middle of a turn in an intersection and once while exiting a busy road. Twice it has died upon arrival at destinations and yet the battery has indicated when tested as fully charged. The key indicator is the radio system turns off for a second or two and then automatically restarts and the car with it. When this occurs the car is unable to be driven as the wheel will not turn. I have informed the local Chevy dealership near me and test was done with no error codes reported. What I have had to do is remove the battery cable and replace it and it seems to make the car work for a little longer until it starts the process again with the radio. I had work done to repair the window motor and that is when I first notified Chevy (I will have to locate the date). I have given permission for my friend to drive the car and he has seen this occur with the radio but did not notice if the car shut down.

For about a year now my 2014 Chevy Cruze’s steering wheel will lock up for a few seconds while I am driving (at speeds up to 80MPH) - which is extremely dangerous. When this happens, several lights will then pop up on my dashboard and messages are shown saying “service power steering” “service traction control”. The radio turns off, the lights inside the car turn off, and the back up camera stops working. The engine light has been on and will not go off. I have already replaced the transmission and the starter as well as the fuel pump. I was told by my mechanic to just get rid of the car as it has way too many issues to even attempt repairing. I once ran over a curb and popped a tire when the steering wheel locked up. Every time I start my car there is a message that say “roll down driver window and roll back up” which I do not understand. This seems to be happening to several people. I am very disappointed and scared to be driving this car.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle radio will go in and out and the steering wheel would become hard to maneuver. The contact stated that it felt as if the vehicle had lost power however, the vehicle was still running. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where no failure could be diagnosed as the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that OnStar was also unable to diagnose the failure. The contact stated that the battery cables were replaced however, the failure continued. The contact stated that she believed that the dealer contacted the manufacturer as she was told by the dealer that they had spoken to an engineer. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

Several times the steering wheel mechanism locked up while driving and I was unable to steer it momentarily. During that time several warning lamp indicators intermittently illuminated, and the radio shorted, and the instrument panel flashed or blacked out. Also, there is a coolant leak. I have the vehicle at the dealership repair center and they haven’t reproduced the above problems, but did find a problem with a engine coolant leak from the water pump and a radiator hose in which they are repairing.

The contact informed his daughter to restart the vehicle while at the stoplight and to park the vehicle so that he could meet her. The contact arrived at the scene to inspect the vehicle and found no fault with the vehicle. The contact followed his daughter to her destination without further incident. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The contact was also informed that a representative would call him for further assistance. The contact received a call back from a representative who left a message asking how he would like to resolve the matter. The contact had yet to respond to the manufacturer. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V442000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.

This morning, I was making a right turn into a neighborhood when I hit a small hole in the road and the car turned off. It alerted me that it was power steering and airbags. Now when I drive into my driveway it may turn off because of the curb, when I turn into work it may turn off because there is a small area where the road has small holes.

THIS HAS OCCUR MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF TIMES. THIS IS THE MOST RECENT ONE, I STOPPED AT THE GAS STATION TURNED OFF MY CAR AND WHEN I WENT TO START IT NOTHING WAS WORKING NO LIGHTS, NO POWER ANYWHERE. I WIGGLED THE BATTERY CABLE AND IT CAME BACK ON BUT, I HAD TO TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES FOR IT TO FINALLY START. AS I'M LEAVING THE GAS STATION I TURN TO THE LEFT AND I HAVE NO POWER STEERING NONE WHATSOEVER. THEN IT CAME BACK SECONDS LATER I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AND THE WHEEL JERKED ON ITS ON AND IT SAID SERVICE POWER STEERING AND ONCE AGAIN I HAD NO POWER STEERING. IT WENT OFF MOMENTS LATER. WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION IT LOST ALL POWER AGAIN.

WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT 30 MPH MY WHEEL LOCKED UP AND A MESSAGES APPEARED ON MY DASH SAYING POWER STEERING FAIL. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER MY WHEEL AND THAT HAPPENED TWICE IN A 5 MINUTE DRIVE. MY WHEEL NOW HAS RESISTANCE WHEN TURNING. THE NEXT DAY WHEN TRYING TO START MY CAR IT STALLED, WHEN STARTED AGAIN A MESSAGE APPEARED ABOUT THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM BEING ACTIVATED- I COULDN'T DRIVE MY CAR. WHEN I RESTARTED IT AGAIN ANOTHER MESSAGE APPEARED SAYING 'ROLL DRIVER WINDOW DOWN AND BACK UP'. THE SAME NIGHT I WAS DRIVING 5 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD AND EVERYTHING INSIDE OF MY CAR TURNED OFF- DASHBOARD, LIGHTS, RADIO, I'M PRETTY SURE MY CAR EVEN TURNED OFF FOR THAT SECOND AND THAT HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE SPAN OF A 5 MINUTE DRIVE, ALL WHILE MY WHEEL IS STILL RESISTING TO TURN. THEN A YELLOW ⚠️ WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND MY CAR BEGAN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. THE STEREO POWERED ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE YELLOW WARNING ⚠️ LIGHT TURNED OFF. I CONTINUED TO TRAVEL ANOTHER 1.5-2 MILES MORE TO MY HOME AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME A GREEN DASH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND SAID SERVICE POWER STEERING. I PARKED MY CAR AT THAT POINT. I AM CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR REPAIR. THE REASON WHY I AM FILING A COMPLAINT IS BECAUSE OF THE DANGER ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TYPE OF MALFUNCTION. IT PUT MY LIFE AND OTHER DRIVERS LIFE IS AT STAKE. THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE WAY FOR A VEHICLE TO FUNCTION. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY TIME I'VE HAD AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. IN OCTOBER 2018 AFTER DRIVING TO MAMMOTH CALIFORNIA MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY TURNED OFF WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. SOMETHING SIMILAR TO A STALL OUT.

I JUST HAD MY CAR SERVICED NOT TOO LONG AGO FOR A COOLANT LEAK ON THE ENGINE HOSE. I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP WITH OIL CHANGES AS WELL AS ALL OTHER FLUID LEVELS CHECKED REGULARLY. I FIRST BEGAN THINKING IT WAS THE BATTERY, HOWEVER I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY TESTED AND IT IS STILL BASICALLY NEW.

I'VE KEPT UP WITH MY OIL CHANGES I'VE KEPT UP WITH ANY SERVICE THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE ON MY VEHICLE BUT TODAY MY ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHEN I STARTED TO RUN MY AIR CONDITIONING. USUALLY I CAN GET UNDER THE HOOD AND WIGGLE SOME WIRES AND THEN THINGS WILL GO BACK TO THE WAY THAT IT WAS BUT LATELY MY CAR HAS BEEN SHUTTING OFF ON ME WHILE I'M DRIVING AND I HAD A SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR NEXT WEEK TO GO AND SEE A PROFESSIONAL TO GET UNDER THE HOOD TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON I FIGURED IT WAS PROBABLY JUST ANOTHER OIL CHANGE IT IS ABOUT THAT TIME, BUT I WAS ON MY WAY TO A FRIEND'S WEDDING AND I HAD TO STOP AND WHEN I STOP MY CAR DID NOT CUT BACK ON I POP THE HOOD AND WIGGLED SOME WIRES LIKE I USUALLY DO BUT THERE WAS NO ACTIVITY WHATSOEVER UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THIS CAR HAS NOT RAN RIGHT SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. NOW, EVERYTIME WE START THE CAR AND BEGIN TO DRIVE IT, WE GET A WARNING ABOUT THE STABILTRAK NOT WORKING, THEN POWERSTEERING GOES OUT, AND ENTIRE CAR SHUTS DOWN AND GOES BLACK WHEN THE CAR IS POWERED OFF. CONTACTED GM TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED PER THE SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT BUT WAS INFORMED THAT IT WASN'T COVERED PER THE VIN SEARCH. ALL THE CRITERIA MATCH THE BULLETIN (YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, TIME AND MILEAGE) AND THE KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT BY GM , AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE ABOVE-MENTIONED SERVICE BULLETIN.

RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE THE OIL COOLING SYSTEM DUE TO IT BEING CRACKED. AFTER THAT WAS FIXED MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. COME TO FIND OUT THE ENTIRE INTAKE MANIFOLD NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THAT ISSUE IS RESOLVED, MY STEERING WHEEL IS NOW STICKING DEAD CENTER WITH A LACK OF MOVEMENT WITH TURNING.

THE FIRST FEW TIMES THAT WAS ALL IT WAS, BUT IN THE FALL OF 2017, THAT SENSOR WOULD COME ON & MY BRAKES & STEERING WERE AFFECTED. IN ADDITION, THE CAR WILL HAVE MOMENTS WHERE IT BLANKS OUT JUST BRIEFLY WHILE DRIVING, USUALLY NOTICED BY THE RADIO GOING OFF & ON. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE KEY GET LOCKED IN THE IGNITION. YESTERDAY, 6/17/18, I WENT TO START MY CAR IN A PARKING LOT & SEVERAL SENSORS CAME UP, BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM, STABILITRACK, & POWER STEERING. CAR WOULD NOT START, I KEPT SHUTTING OFF THE RADIO, & IT WOULD COME BACK ON. CAR RESTED FOR 2 HOURS & THEN STARTED AGAIN. ONCE DRIVING, THE STEERING WAS NOT RIGHT. TOOK A QUARTER OF A MILE OF DRIVING BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT PULL 1/4 OF THE WAY TO THE LEFT ON ITS OWN. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR INTO THE DEALER WITH ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS EXCEPT THE INCIDENT YESTERDAY. THEIR SOLUTION HAS BEEN NEW BATTERY AND NEW BATTERY CABLES-TWICE. IN THE FALL OF 2017, I MENTIONED SEEING SIMILAR ISSUES ONLINE & THEY DISMISSED IT. I JUST CALLED ABOUT THE 6/17/18 ISSUE & I AM GETTING THE RUN-AROUND FROM THEM.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED FROM A DEALERSHIP 27 DAYS AGO. TWO DAYS AGO I WENT TO RESTART CAR AFTER A SHORT DRIVE AND THE CAR DID NOT CRANK, DASH REMAINED BLACK, KEY WAS STUCK IN IGNITION. MY DAUGHTER IN LAW TOLD ME TO POP THE HOOD AND UPON WIGGLING BATTERY CABLES FREED THE KEY FROM STUCK POSITION AND I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND DRIVE HOME. THIS IS WHEN I LEARNED THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME OF OCCURRENCE. I WAS HOSPITALIZED SEVERAL DAYS AFTER PURCHASE AND MY KIDS USED THE CAR. THEY NEGLECTED TO TELL ME TWICE THEY LOST POWER WHILE IN MOTION AND CAR SHUT OFF. THE FIRST TIME WAS WHILE EXITING OFF THE FREEWAY. THE SECOND WAS WHILE MAKING TURN AFTER IDLING AT A RED LIGHT SEVERAL MINUTES. BOTH TIMES THE VEHICLE POWER STEERING CEASED AND STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. ON ANOTHER OCCASION THEY EXPERIENCED A NO START SIMILAR TO MINE, A SHORT DRIVE, THEN CAR WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF FOR A SHORT TIME , NO CRANK AT RESTART, BLACK DASH, STUCK KEY. I HAD PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED TO DEALER TECH THAT CAR FAILS TO KEEP CURRENT DATE AND TIME. EACH DAY I NOTE IT HAS REVERTED BACK AGAIN TO THE YEAR 2010 AND AN INCORRECT TIME. A RESET LIKE CLICK IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER TURNING OFF ENGINE IS FREQUENTLY HEARD. RADIO AND DASH LIGHTS HAVE FLASHED WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS NOW.

OVER MY ENTIRE DRIVE HOME TONIGHT, I HAD MY STEERING WHEEL "STICK" WHILE DRIVING ON STRAIGHT AREAS OF ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE DID THIS MORE THAN A DOZEN TIMES AND IN ORDER TO GET FEEDBACK FROM THE VEHICLE IN TERMS OF STEERING, I HAD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL (LESS THAN 1/10TH OF TURN) TO THE RIGHT IN ORDER TO FEEL THE VEHICLE HAD CONTROL. WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY, THE CAR WOULD JERK AS IT REGAINED CONTROL. HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON ICY ROADS, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SEVERE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE STILL RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL THE CONTACT BACK, BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE ANY CALLS. MY WIFE HAD COME BACK FROM A DR. APPT. APPROX. 52 MILES AWAY FROM HER PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT ON MONDAY 5/15/17 AT APPROX. 1:15PM. AS SHE APPROACHED HER EMPLOYMENT, SHE MADE A LEFT TURN ON A SIDE STREET THAT SEPARATES TWO AUTO DEALERSHIPS, WHERE EMPLOYEES PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE STREET. SHE NOTICED AN EMPTY PARKING SPOT ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET AND DECIDED TO MAKE A U-TURN TO PARK THERE. AS SHE SLOWED DOWN TO ATTEMPT THE U-TURN, SHE MADE A SLIGHT LEFT TO BEGIN THE U-TURN AND AT THAT MOMENT ALL THE VEHICLE'S WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP, THE MESSAGE CENTER SCREEN LOCATED AT THE CENTER OF THE CLUSTER ON THE DASH READ "STABILINK SYSTEM DISABLED" AND HAD LOST ALL POWER STEERING. UPON LOSING STEERING, THE STEERING WHEEL SNAPPED BACK AND BROKE HER WRIST IN TWO PLACES. THE LOSS OF STEERING RESULTED IN OUR VEHICLE SLIGHTLY IMPACTING THE VEHICLE PARKED TO HER IMMEDIATE RIGHT. I (HER HUSBAND) ARRIVED LITERALLY MINUTES AFTER THE LOSS OCCURRED, TRIAGED HER ARM AND NEEDED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE STREET. UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS STILL RUNNING AND HAD NOTICED ALL THE DASH AND VEHICLE WARNING LIGHTS ON, INCLUDING THE "STABILINK DISABLED" MESSAGE ON THE DASH. AS I BEGAN TO DRIVE IT APPROX. 20 YARDS TO AN EMPTY PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER STEERING YET IT WAS RUNNING. APPROX. 9 HOURS LATER, I HAD GONE BACK TO THE VEHICLE TO ATTEMPT TO DRIVE IT TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP TO STORE IT AND UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, ALL SYSTEMS WERE RUNNING AGAIN, NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE PRESENT ON THE DASH AND THE POWER STEERING HAD BEEN RESTORED. I ATTEMPTED TO FIND ANY INDICATION OF A PROBLEM THRU THE MESSAGE CENTER WITHOUT SUCCESS. I FILED AN INSURANCE CLAIM ON APPROX. 5/19, HAD THE VEHICLE PRESERVED FOR EVIDENCE AND IS NOW CURRENTLY STORED AND NOT MOVED AT THE BODY SHOP. AS OF 6/15, INJURY SCIENCES LLC IS SCHEDULED TO PLUG INTO THE ECU OR DATA EVENT RECORDER.

THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHERE LIVES ARE AT STAKE AND FIND IT APPAULING THAT GM HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT RATHER ISSUING A SERVICE BULLETIN? THESE COMPLAINTS ARE ALL OVER THE INTERNET . . . OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A CRITICAL ISSUE FOR MANY CONSUMERS.

I PURCHASED MY CAR IN APRIL 2016 WITH APPROX 22,000. ON THE SECOND DAY THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE HOOD WHICH IT SOUNDED VERY CLOSE TOWARDS THE ENGINE, EXHAUST PART OF THE CAR. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIDN'T STATE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS THEY JUST TOLD ME THEY HAD FIXED IT. THE NOISE WENT AWAY. 3 MONTHS LATER I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKING. I WAS AT A BIG INTERSECTION WHEN I WAS TURNING LEFT MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME AND MY ENTIRE LIGHTS INCLUDING THE DASHBOARD WENT OUT. I COULDN'T MOVE MY CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AND LUCKILY THERE WASN'T CARS COMING TOWARDS ME. IT TOOK ABOUT 10-20 SECONDS TO COME BACK ON. WHEN IT DID COME BACK ON THERE WAS A LOT OF LIGHTS POPPING UP AND THEN THERE WAS A "STABILI TRAK" LIGHT ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE BECAUSE I KNEW I COULDN'T DRIVE IT ANYMORE. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND I TOOK IT IN THAT SAME DAY. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A WIRE THAT WAS LOOSE AND THEY HAD FIXED IT. WELL THEY DID NOT, 3 WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON THEN. I TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND NOW I AM BACK TO THE SAME THING EXCEPT SOMETHING NEW. NOT ONLY DOES MY LIGHT COME UP AND MY STEERING WHEEL STILL LOCKS ON ME BUT MY CAR BEGAN SHAKING LAST NIGHT AND WHEN I WOULD DRIVE IT IT WOULD MAKE THE SAME LOUD NOISE FROM THE BEGINNING TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE CAR TOWARDS THE ENGINE, AND IT WOULD HESITATE ON GOING WHEN I WOULD MAKE A STOP. LIKE IF IT WAS ABOUT TO FULLY TURN OFF SO MY CAR GOT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP LAST NIGHT. THE ISSUES WERE NOT FIXED AND THEY ARE ONLY GETTING WORSE.THESE ISSUES SHOULD'VE BEEN TAKEN CARE THE FIRST TIME I HAD GONE TO THE DEALERSHIP. NOW IT'S THE 4TH TIME I HAVE GONE TO A DEALERSHIP AND NOTHING IS BEING RESOLVED AND I PRETTY SURE NOW THERE IS A BIG ISSUE WITH MY ENGINE WITH SO LITTLE MILES!

IT HAPPENS OVER AND OVER WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WITH THE LAG OR STICKING DURING THE CORRECTION THE CAR MOVES QUICKLY FOR A SECOND IN THE DIRECTION YOU ARE STEERING. SO WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WANDERS IN THE LANE AND EVERY CORRECTION YOU GET THIS LAG OF STICKING.

IT DOESN'T FEEL DANGEROUS, BUT IS LESS THAN TOTALLY SAFE AS THE WHEEL TYPICALLY OVERSTEERS THE OTHER DIRECTION WHEN USING ADDITIONAL EFFORT TO CORRECT MY DRIFTING. THIS OCCURS USUALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND DOESN'T NECESSARILY REQUIRE GOING IN THE SAME STRAIGHT DIRECTION FOR A LONG TIME. I WAS NOTICING, THAT WHEN I WENT TO ADJUST THE STEERING THERE WAS LIKE A SPOT IN THE STEERING WHERE IT WOULDN'T REACT WHICH I FOUND VERY UNSAFE. UPON DECELERATING AT SLOWER SPEEDS ON REGULAR ROADS AROUND 30-40MPH I NOTICED THE PROBLEM STILL BEING THERE. I FIND IT EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND ITS LIKE THE STEERING ISN'T RESPONDING PROPERLY WHICH IN THE EVENT OF NEEDING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT CAN END UP CAUSING ONE. I PARALLEL PARKED MY CAR ON A HILLSIDE STREET WITH THE FRONT WHEELS ANGLED TO TOUCH THE CONCRETE CURB PER THE CITY'S HILLSIDE PARKING RULES. I REMOVED THE KEY AND LOCKED THE DOORS. NONE OF THE ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES WORKED BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. I COULDN'T OPEN THE ELECTRIC WINDOWS, SO I WAS SWEATING WITH ALL THE WINDOWS CLOSED. I WAS ABLE TO CALL ONSTAR WITH MY CELL PHONE FOR HELP AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT MY BATTERY WAS FULLY CHARGED AND THEY HAD ME TRY MY OTHER IGNITION KEY AND TO REPEATEDLY TURN/ROCK THE STEERING WHEEL FORCEFULLY TO UNLOCK IT WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. AFTER NOTHING WORKED, THE ONSTAR SERVICE PERSON SAID HE WOULD CALL A TOW TRUCK FOR SERVICE. AFTER WE HUNG UP, AND I WAS WAITING, I TRIED THE IGNITION KEY AGAIN, AND THE KEY TURNED AND UNLOCKED THE ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK. I COULD START THE CAR TO DRIVE AGAIN.I CALLED ONSTAR BACK TO CANCEL THE TOW SERVICE CALL. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY CHEVROLET DEALER 3 DAYS LATER FOR A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT I HAD MADE 3 WEEKS BEFORE. WHILE DRIVING IN STRAIGHT LINE ON HIGHWAY THE STEERING LOCKED OR HIT A DEAD SPOT WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A MINOR CORRECTION TO STAY WITHIN MY LANE. I FELT A SLIGHT RESISTANCE THOUGH THE WHEEL TO MY STEERING CORRECTION AND THEN THE RESISTANCE WALL WOULD BREAK AND THE CAR WOULD RAPIDLY JERKED TO THE DIRECTION OF THE INPUT. FELT ALMOST LIKE A NOTCH IN A RATCHET. THIS PROBLEM WOULD REPLICATE THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO CORRECT FOR THE INITIAL OVER STEER INPUT CAUSED FROM PREVIOUS DEAD SPOT. I HAVE 5500 MILES ON MY 2014 CRUZE DIESEL AND RECENTLY I HAVE NOTICED A DISTURBING PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE SEEMS TO BE A "DEAD" SPOT IN THE CENTER OF THE STEERING RANGE. IT IS PARTICULARLY NOTICEABLE WHEN I MAKE A LANE CHANGE AT 65 - 70 MPH IN TRAFFIC. THE STEERING IS NOT TIGHT AND PRECISE... IT SORT OF FEELS SLOPPY LIKE A HIGH MILEAGE CAR THAT HAS SOME FREE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT IS SCARY. I HAVE HEARD THAT THE CHEVY CRUZE HAD PROBLEMS LIKE THIS IN 2012 AND EARLIER. THE FOLLOWING ISSUE ONLY OCCURS ONCE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 15+ MILES AND IS "WARMED UP". WHEN ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH MINOR CORRECTIONS TO THE STEERING IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN POSITION IN THE LANE. THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE THESE MINOR CORRECTIONS, RESULTING IN ADDITIONAL STRENGTH BEING USED IN ORDER TO MOVE THE WHEEL. THE WHEEL ALWAYS MOVES WITH THIS ADDITIONAL PRESSURE, BUT SOMETIMES IT RESULTS IN AN OVERCORRECTION CAUSING THE DRIVER TO HAVE TO CORRECT IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF DIFFERENT CRUZE OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM ON VARIOUS WEBSITES, WITH VARYING DEGREES OF DEALERSHIP ASSISTANCE IN ATTEMPTING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER ON FEBRUARY 22ND, BUT THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE I SPOKE WITH STATED THERE WERE NO TECHNICAL BULLETINS OR OTHER GUIDANCE THAT HE COULD FIND REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. IF, AS A FAIRLY QUICK INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES, THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS, IF NOT PERHAPS THOUSANDS OF CRUZE DRIVERS WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM, AND KEEPING IN MIND THAT STEERING IS PROBABLY THE SECOND MOST IMPORTANT AUTO SYSTEM SUPERSEDED ONLY BY BRAKING, THEN PERHAPS THIS PROBLEM DESERVES FORMAL REVIEW BY THE NHTSA. *TR

WHEN DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MAKE SMALL STEERING CORRECTIONS. WHEN A SLIGHT CORRECTION IS ATTEMPTED, A "NOTCH" OR "HITCH" IS FELT IN THE STEERING WITH INCREASED RESISTANCE IN THE WHEEL, UPON OVERCOMING THE "NOTCH" IN THE STEERING, THE VEHICLE OVERCORRECTS AND MUST BE BROUGHT BACK. WHILE THE BEHAVIOR OCCURS IN A VARIETY OF TEMPERATURES AND CLIMATE CONDITIONS, IT SEEMS ONLY TO OCCUR ONCE THE VEHICLE HAS REACHED OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND REMAINED THERE FOR 30-60 MINUTES OR MORE. THE BEHAVIOR ALSO DOES NOT OCCUR IN LOW-SPEED DRIVING OR ROUTES, SUCH AS CURVES, THAT REQUIRE CONSTANT STEERING INPUT, BUT ONLY WHEN SMALL CORRECTIONS ARE NEEDED DURING STRAIGHT-LINE HIGHWAY DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING AT HWY SPEEDS THE STEERING WILL APPEAR TO STICK OR NOT RESPOND. IT FEELS AS IF THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM THE MINOR INPUT FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THEN YOU PUT A LITTLE MORE INPUT IN THE WHEEL AND THE CAR APPEARS TO CATCH UP TO THE COMMAND GIVING IT MINOR SWERVING FEELING. IT SEEMS TO BE QUITE COMMON WITH CRUZES. I HAVE FOUND OVER 100 COMPLAINTS ON ONE FORUM ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THE POSSIBLE UNSAFE CONDITION. *TR
