Chevrolet Equinox Years to Avoid
The 2011 Equinox is the worst model year, with excessive oil consumption in the 2.4L engine that could burn a quart every 1,000 miles or less. The 2010-2013 models share this oil consumption issue, with some engines requiring replacement before 100,000 miles. The 2012 Equinox had additional timing chain problems. The 2005-2009 first-generation Equinox had head gasket failures and transmission issues. The 2018-2019 models with the 1.5L turbo had some turbo failures and rough idle complaints. Avoid any 2010-2013 Equinox unless oil consumption has been addressed.
Best Chevrolet Equinox Years
The 2026 Equinox represents GM's latest refinement with electric options and improved build quality. The 2020-2023 Equinoxes show significant improvement with the 1.5T engine issues resolved. The 2014-2017 models improved over earlier years though some oil consumption persisted.
