Upon purchasing the vehicle from a buy here pay here they did not enclose any possible or current failures or problems with the vehicle. It started with the battery and within 2 months of purchase the check engine light came on. I had previously taken the vehicle to the dealership 3 times to assess the issue in which they repeatedly informed me nothing was wrong even though my check engine light was still on. A month later my CV axel went out and my alignment begin to come out of place. I took the vehicle to an auto shop in which they gave me an estimate of all the issues wrong with the car. I have since done repairs for what was necessary. I then began to look for a recall on the vehicle in which I found that there was a manufacturer recall that was I repaired regarding the Safety lock theft prevention. My ignition switch does not register properly when it is in “off mode”. The engine still runs and numerous attempts to stop it have failed. I contacted the dealership and they have not been willing to work with me in any way. I called the manufacturer number and was directed to a Chevrolet dealership near me in which they told me there are no recalls even though the NHTSA.gov website states there is as well as numerous others but that they have not been repaired. When I place my vehicle in the park position and remove the key from the ignition I am still able to move the gear shift into any selected gear, both with and without the normal brake and the emergency brake. I cannot afford to take it to a shop for repair but did take it to be inspected and was informed that this was an issue along with others and that it could be the reason my battery is not holding the power it needs and why I cannot remove my key sometimes as well as why the engine remains running after switching to the off position and removing my key.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT AS NEEDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO EXCEED 20 MPH. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SURGE THAT WENT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING AN INJURY TO THE CONTACT. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE OFF POSITION, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING. THE BATTERY TERMINALS WERE DISCONNECTED AND THE VEHICLE SHUT-OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RICK HENDRICK CHEVROLET NORFOLK (6252 E. VIRGINIA BEACH BLVD, NORFOLK, VA 23502, (757) 266-5804) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. MY UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX WENT UP IN FLAMES WHILE DRIVING ON A BACK ROAD IN MY HOME TOWN. I WAS DOING 45 MPH WHEN THEN TRUCK SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. I AT FIRST THOUGHT WAS THE FUEL PUMP WENT. WHEN I OPENED MY DRIVERS DOOR I COULD SMELL SOMETHING WAS BURNING. I PULLED THE HOOD RELEASE AS I EXITED KINDLY DOWN AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK DID NOT SEE AND SMOKE. I THEN WENT AND OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX WAS ON FIRE AND WAS BEING FUELED BY THE BATTERY I RASH TO THE BACK AND GRABBED A PAIR OF PLIERS TO DISCUSS CONNECT THE BATTERY. I FEEL THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE BECAUSE I HAD TO CALL 6 DIFFERENT JUNK YARDS SOME THE PARTS WERE ALREADY REMOVED AND OTHERS DID NOT HAVE ALL BUT HAD ONE OF THEM AND A COUPLE THE PARTS WERE MELTED AND BURNT.

WHEN IT HAPPENED AT HOME, I LEFT CAR ALONE WITH THE KEYS HALFWAY IN IGNITION IN DRIVEWAY AND IT LET GO OF THE KEYS HOURS LATER. WHEN DAD BORROWED THE CAR, HE USED PLYERS TO REMOVE KEY. APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH IGNITION CLENCHING KEY SPONTANEOUSLY WITH NO REMEDY.

TOOK TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO WAS RECOMMENDED BY FIRST ONE. THEY REPLACED R&R CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID AND THE WIRING HARNESS ON 6/22/2015. THE LIGHT STAYED OFF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BRAKE BEGAN TO LOCK UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED TWICE NOW. THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS KEEPS FALLING OFF DO THE METAL CLIP IT HOOKS ONTO RUSTING. THE WIRING HARNESS CLIP ON THE END WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE HUB IS SHOT. THE ABS LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON.I'VE TRIED TO CLEAN IT MANY TIMES TO NO AVAIL. I'M SICK AND TIRED OF THIS PROBLEM. NO MATTER WHAT I DO, IT STILL CAUSES PROBLEM. AND I AM A PA CERTIFIED INSPECTION MECHANIC. I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH A POOR BRAKE SYSTEM IN MY LIFE. I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKES 4 TIMES NOW, AND PROBABLY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR, 2015 WHEN MY STATE INSPECTION WILL BE DUE. THE JOKE OF IT ALL IS THAT THE REAR BRAKES ARE STILL THE ORIGINAL BRAKES AND STAND AT THE LAST INSPECTION AT 8/32. THIS TELLS ME THAT THE BRAKE DISTRIBUTION EQUALIZER IS NOT WORKING. ALL MY STOPPING POWER IS ON THE FRONT BRAKES. MY EQUINOX IS 10 YEARS OLD. SURELY BY NOW THE REAR BRAKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED A FEW TIMES. THERE IS ONLY 38,300 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE NOW AND IT LOOKS LIKE NEW. I TAKE EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES. EVERY 3000 MILES THE OIL AND TIRES ARE ROTATED, AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS INSPECTION BY ME. I WAS GOING TO BUY A 2015 EQUINOX, BUT WAS TORN AWAY BY THE DELAYS OF CHEVROLET ON THESE PROBLEMS. IN THE END, THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED AND THE ENTIRE ABS SYSTEM SHOULD BE COMPLETELY RE-EXAMINED AND REPAIRED. FINALLY AFTER 3 YEARS, I NOW GOT A NEW IGNITION AND 2 NEW KEYS. YA. A LOUD POP OCCURRED DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND THEN A NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN THE SUSPENSION WAS FELT. IN TESTING THE VEHICLES ABILITY TO TRAVEL TO A REPAIR CENTER THE BRAKE PEDDLE WOULD DROP TO THE FLOOR AS IF IT LOST COMPRESSION. THIS OCCURRED AFTER CAREFULLY OBSERVING THE TROUBLESOME BEHAVIOR OF THE TURNING CAPABILITIES AND SUSPENSION OF THE TIRES. IT SEEMED TO MAKE AN AWFUL GRINDING NOISE WHEN MAKING RIGHT TURNS BUT NOT LEFT TURNS. PREVIOUSLY BEFORE THESE PROBLEMS AROSE, THE APPARENT ISSUE OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND ITS FUNCTIONING PARTS(POWER DOORS, WINDOWS ETC.) WERE MALFUNCTIONING, INCLUDING THE RADIO. AT THE INITIAL PURCHASE OF THE CAR THE ONLY SEEMINGLY HARMLESS THING TO MIND WAS THE STICKING OF THE IGNITION SWITCH AT TIMES. TO DATE, THE CAR IS NOT ABLE TO REVERSE FROM PARKING POSITION, AND HAS A NEW ISSUE OF LOCKING UP TOTALLY AND NOT ABLE TO ENGAGE FORWARD. ON 2/17/15, I, ALONG WITH 3 OF MY CHILDREN, WERE DRIVING ALONG THE ROADWAY AT APPROX. 7AM. AS I WENT AROUND A MINOR BEND IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE PULLED HARD TO THE LEFT SLAMMING THE DRIVER'S SIDE INTO THE SNOWBANK AROUND THE GUARDRAIL. IT CONTINUED MOVING FORWARD AS I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKE AND LIGHTLY MOVE THE WHEEL TO GET US BACK INTO OUR LANE. THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND AS I TRIED TO STRAIGHTEN IT UP, I WAS SENT INTO A SPIN UNTIL THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SLAMMED INTO THE SNOW ON OUR SIDE OF THE ROAD, BRINGING US TO A STOP. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED & AS I TRIED TO PULL AWAY, I REALIZED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ON. IT HAD SHUT ITSELF DOWN. I HAD MY BROTHER LOOK AT IT & TEST DRIVE, HE FOUND NOTHING, SO I ASSUMED IT WAS A 1 TIME EVENT AND PROCEEDED TO USE THE VEHICLE. ON 2/22/15, MY NEPHEW AND MY DAUGHTER USED THE VEHICLE TO GO TO TOWN. HE GOT LESS THAN 3 MILES FROM HOME, HEADING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN, WHEN HE REALIZED THERE WAS LITTLE TO NO STEERING. HE LOOKED DOWN & SAW THAT ONCE AGAIN, THE VEHICLE HAD SHUT ITSELF OFF. HE TOO ENDED UP CRASHING. LUCKILY HE WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE RD, INTO THE SNOWBANK JUST BEFORE A SEMI WENT SPEEDING BY. AGAIN, NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. IT CONCERNS ME WITH THE MASSIVE RECALL THAT I FOUND ONLINE, THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE LIST, BUT MANY PPL SEEM TO BE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED IN OUR INCIDENTS. BUT THESE VEHICLES ARE NOT SAFE & SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROADS IN THIS CONDITION. WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE THAT BOTH INCIDENTS WERE DURING A CLEAR SPOT IN TRAFFIC. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND SET THERE UNTIL IT DECIDED TO START, SOMETIMES IT TOOK AWHILE AND OTHERS IT WOULD START RIGHT UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER AND OVER TO MANY TIMES TO COUNT, THIS CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS, I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT VERY BADLY. AFTER STOPPING AT A GAS STATION, GOT IN MY CAR AND AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED THE DOORS BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE. NOTHING HAPPENED WHEN I TURNED THE KEY. NO SOUND OTHER THAN A WHIRRING UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. I TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO SUCCESS. IT WAS GETTING VERY HOT IN THE CAR SO I TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR, AND COULD NOT. I TRIED THE MANUAL "OPEN" BUTTON MANY TIMES AND IT WOULD NOT WORK. OF COURSE, THE WINDOWS ARE ELECTRIC SO THEY WOULD NOT GO DOWN (THERE IS NO LEVER TO ROLL THEM DOWN). AFTER APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES, IT GOT SO HOT IN THE CAR I TELEPHONED 911. AS THE OFFICER DROVE UP, ONE OF THE TIMES I TRIED TO TURN OVER THE IGNITION PRODUCED A VERY SHORT SUCCESS IN TURNING ON THE ELECTRIC JUST LONG ENOUGH FOR THE RADIO TO COME ON AND THE DOORS TO UNLOCK. WE STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, BUT EXPECT IT IS RELATED TO AN ELECTRICAL PART(S). I HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE WITH CHEVROLET FOR ALMOST AN HOUR NOW. "[XXX]" STILL HAS ME ON HOLD (OVER 20 MINUTES NOW) FOR A SUPERVISOR (WHICH I REQUESTED - TWICE) BECAUSE HE INFORMED ME THEY KNOW OF NO WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR MANUALLY WHEN THE ELECTRIC IS INVOLVED. IN FACT, HE SAID THEIR "SENIOR" REPAIRMAN SAID HE HAD NEVER HEARD A THING LIKE THAT HAPPENING TO ANYONE BEFORE. "[XXX]" KEPT TELLING ME TO ASK THE DEALERSHIP OR THE NAPA SERVICE CENTER WHERE MY CAR IS NOW OF A WAY TO ESCAPE THE CAR. I CAN PULL THE IGNITION KEY FOR MY 2005 OUT OF THE IGNITION OR IT CAN FALL OUT WHILE THE CAR IS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE KEYS WEAR OUT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE CAR WAS ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD. I BOUGHT IT NEW IN APRIL 2004. I DISCOVERED THIS WHEN I ACCIDENTALLY KNOCKED THE KEY OUT (FORTUNATELY DIRECTLY INTO MY HAND SO I WAS ABLE TO REINSERT IT QUICKLY.) I HAVE TO REPLACE KEYS ABOUT 2 YEARS BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS WEAR OUT. SO FAR NOTHING HAS HAPPENED WHEN THIS OCCURS BUT I AM PETRIFIED THAT THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF WHICH WILL LOCK UP THE STEERING, ETC. I DON'T INTENTIONALLY TAKE THE KEY OUT WHILE DRIVING, BUT WHAT IF IT FALLS OUT? IT'S SO LOOSE IN THE IGNITION THAT IT COULD.I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY EQUINOX OWNER WITH THIS PROBLEM. I CONTACTED GM WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED. THEIR REACTION WAS BASICALLY, "OH WELL, TRY A NEW KEY." I DID, AND THE DEALER RIPPED ME OFF FOR A WHOLE BUNCH OF MONEY TO "PROGRAM" KEYS THAT DON'T NEED TO BE PROGRAMMED (I DIDN'T FIND THIS OUT UNTIL A COUPLE YEARS LATER WHEN I BOUGHT THE NEXT SET OF KEYS ONLINE AND DIDN'T NEED TO PROGRAM THEM.) NOW, I JUST BUY KEYS ON LINE WHEN THE OLD ONES WEAR OUT. GIVEN THE PROBLEMS GM HAD WITH IGNITIONS IN THIS TIME SPAN, I THINK THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT CLOSELY. WHO KNOWS WHAT PROBLEMS (DEATHS?) ON TRIP STOPPED FOR GAS,PULLED KEY OUT ONLY WENT 1/2 WAY. WAS STUCK WOULD NOT GO IN OR OUT. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET EARLY ON ABOUT THIS PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL, THEY CLAIMED IT IS NOT COVERED. YET, ONLINE I WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT NUMEROUS CONSUMERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. RECENTLY, IT SEEMED THAT GM WAS RECALLING VEHICLES WITH A SIMILAR IGNITION PROBLEM. I CONTACTED THEM AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED SIMPLY BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF. THIS WAS ALL DONE OVER THE PHONE WHICH IS AN AMAZING DIAGNOSTIC TOOL THEY HAVE. I WAS ADVISED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT. WHEN ASKED WHAT THE COST WOULD BE, I WAS ADVISED THAT WOULD BE NORMAL SERVICE FEES WHICH IS A WASTE OF MONEY SINCE IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO REPAIR IT AT MY MECHANIC WITHOUT ANY DEALER DIAGNOSTIC FEES. DRIVING ON SMOOTH ROAD AT ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN THE IGNITION KEY FELL OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH ONTO THE CAR FLOOR. THE SWITCH WAS STILL IN THE RUN POSITION AND I WAS ABLE TO REINSERT THE KEY INTO THE SWITCH. THE ENGINE DID NOT STOP AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 73500. I NOTICED I CAN MANUALLY PULL THE KEY FROM THE SWITCH AT ANYTIME. I HAVE NOT TRIED TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE MOVING TO SEE IF IT WILL LOCK WHEN THE KEY IS OUT AND THE SWITCH IS IN THE RUN POSITION. IT DOES NOT LOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND THE SWITCH IS IN THE RUN POSITION WITH THE KEY OUT. I HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR A BRAKE ISSUE AND IN A FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL BROUGHT THE KEY ISSUE TO THE SERVICE WRITERS ATTENTION. SHE SAID TO HAVE A NEW KEY MADE BY THE DEALER USING THE VEHICLE VIN. I DID NOT DO THIS YET. I HAVE THREE KEYS MADE BY LOCAL HARDWARE STORES ALL WITH THE SAME RESULT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH OVER A SPEED BUMP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKES BEGAN TO PULSATE WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AFTER REPEATEDLY APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMALLY AND HAD BEEN TAKEN TO FOUR INDEPENDENT MECHANICS FOR DIAGNOSIS, ALL OF WHICH WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FRONT BRAKES, ABS SENSORS AND ABS MODULE WERE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. MOST RECENTLY, A TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT PROBLEM COULD POSSIBLY BE CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

AFTER THE SMOKE STOPPED, THE CAR REPEATEDLY TRIED TO START ITSELF WITHOUT THE KEY BEING PRESENT IN THE IGNITION. IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED DOING THIS BUT THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD RANDOMLY FLICKER IN UNISON. ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WERE STILL OPERATIONAL (RADIO, LIGHTS, SIGNALS, WIPERS, ETC...) BUT AGAIN NO KEY WAS PRESENT IN THE IGNITION. *TT

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHENEVER A TURN WAS MADE OR THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OVER UNEVEN SURFACES. THIS COMPLAINT IS IN REGARDS TO THE 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN AUGUST 2009 WITH ROUGHLY 42000 MILES FROM CARMAX IN DULLES, VA. SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE SPENT NEARLY 3000 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS AS IT SEEMS THAT PARTS ARE WEARING OUT OR MALFUNCTIONING FAR EARLIER THAN TYPICAL. AT ABOUT THE 60000 MILE MARK, ALL FOUR ROTORS AND BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE ROTORS BEING WARPED. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THIS IS NOT COMMON AND SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AT THIS TYPE OF MILEAGE. COST FOR THIS REPAIR WAS ABOUT $500. TIRES HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TWICE SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE; ONCE AROUND 60000 MILES DUE TO "UNEVEN WEAR" WHICH WAS LIKELY A RESULT OF THE BAD ROTORS, AND AGAIN AROUND THE 100000 MARK ALSO FOR "UNEVEN WEAR". THIS COST $400 ON EACH OCCASION. AT THE 80000 MILE MARK A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT END, AND PROCEEDED TO GET WORSE UP TO THE 100000 MILE MARK. BETWEEN THOSE MILEAGE MARKS, THE FRONT END BEGAN TO FEEL VERY LOOSE. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE STRUTS PREMATURELY FAILED AND CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITION. THE COST FOR THIS REPAIR WAS OVER $1300 AND WAS REPAIRED ON JUNE 27, 2011. AFTER DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A VERY PROMINENT AND COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL. ON TOP OF THESE ISSUES, THERE IS ALSO APPARENTLY A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR END AS WELL THAT IS ALSO CREATING A KNOCKING. ALSO, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE BEGUN TO FLASH REPEATEDLY AND VERY QUICKLY AT RANDOM TIMES AS WELL AS TURNING THEMSELVES ON AND OFF. THE CD PLAYER ALSO BROKE. I OWN A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX LT. I PURCHASED IT IN MARCH OF 2005 AND HAVE BEEN THE FIRST AND ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. SINCE APRIL 2005 THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD TROUBLE STARTING. I COULD TURN THE KEY TO START THE IGNITION AND IT WOULD STUTTER AND TURN OFF ALL THE WAY. SOMETIMES I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE STARTED AFTER SEVERAL TRIES UNLESS I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL WHILE TURNING THE IGNITION KEY. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY THE CHEVROLET DEALER BUT THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND AT THE TIME OF TURNING ON THE VEHICLE AT THE CAR DEALER TO TRY TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM THE CAR TURNED ON WITHOUT ANY STUTTERING. THESE PROBLEMS PERSISTED EVEN AFTER HAVING REPLACED THE STARTER AND BATTERY. THE DEALER COULD NOT OFFER ANYMORE EXPLANATIONS OR SUGGESTIONS. ADDITIONALLY THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WHILE THE CAR IS ON AND WHILE DRIVING.THE KEY CANNOT ALWAYS BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SMOOTHLY. SOMETIMES IT GETS STUCK HALFWAY OUT AND IT TAKES SOME MANEUVERING OF THE KEY TO REMOVE IT COMPLETELY. NOW THE KEY WILL NOT TURN AT ALL IN THE IGNITION WHEN TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK SEPT 2010. ITS A USED CHEVY EQUINOX 2005 FROM A BIG "MAZDA" DEALERSHIP HERE IN EDINBURG,, TEXAS. I DIDN'T BUY IT WITH WARRANTY. AFTER A WEEK OF DRIVING IT, I HAD TO CHANGE THE BRAKE PADS ALREADY. THEY SENSORS STARTED MESSING UP WITHIN 3 DAYS. BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT CUS I HAD NO WARRANTY. MY 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX TENDS TO STALL. THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, THE TC LIGHT COMES ON, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WITH A DOWN ARROW COMES ON. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER IT RAINS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND THE FIRST TIME THEY JUST RESET THE COMPUTER. THE SECOND TIME THEY SAID IT WAS A LEAK IN THE SUNROOF THAT LEAKS DOWN TO THE COMPUTER WIRES. THIS IS A CHEVY PROBLEM FROM THE DAY WE BOUGHT THE CAR. NOW THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND IT WILL COST TOO MUCH TO FIX. USUALLY I CAN TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND TURN IT BACK ON AND IT FIXES IT SELF, BUT SOMETIMES I HAVE TO WAIT TILL IT STOPS RAINING AND LET THE CAR DRY OUT. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON, AND STALLS OFTEN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE CAUSE IT MAKES THE ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING NO MATTER WHAT THE SPEED. HAVE TAKEN CAR BACK TO DEALER WITHIN THE LAST TWO MONTHS BECAUSE IT HAPPENED AGAIN, AND WAS TOLD ALL OF MY WEATHERSTRIPPING NEEDED REPLACING B/C THAT WAS ALLOWING WATER IN. HAD THIS DONE. HAPPENED AGAIN TONIGHT (WET WEATHER TODAY, BUT WAS NOT RAINING WHEN I WAS DRIVING). THE OTHER TIMES THIS HAS OCCURRED, I'VE LET MY EQUINOX SIT WHERE IT DIED FOR A FEW DAYS TO LET IT "DRY OUT" AND THAT HAS WORKED, BUT THIS NOT EXACTLY THE BEST SOLUTION AS I DON'T LIVE IN THE DESERT AND IT DOES RAIN HERE. CHEVY DEALER OF NO HELP; SAID HE AGREES THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT BUT THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO ABOUT IT. ADVISED ME TO CALL CHEVY CS. SEVERE WATER LEAK IN 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX AWD LT. WHEN OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN RAIN CONDITIONS, WATER ACCUMULATES IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL AND OVERFLOWS ONTO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE, EVEN UP TO THE FRONT . IT ALSO SHORTS OUT THE SPEAKER SYSTEM WHICH CRACKLES AND BLARES OUT A LOUD NOISE EVEN WHEN THE RADIO IS TURNED OFF. THE CARPETING BECOMES SOAKED WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND THEN THE VEHICLE HAS A FOUL ODOR. A PHONE CALL TO THE DEALER RESULTED IN AN ANSWER THAT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE. I FEAR THIS WATER IS DAMAGING THE ELECTRICAL PARTS IN THE SPEAKER SYSTEM AND MAY RESULT IN A FIRE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 EQUINOX THE FIRST MODEL YEAR FOR THIS VEHICLE. I ORDERED THE CAR NEW FROM THE FACTORY. AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY START. AT OTHER TIMES THE CAR WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED OFF. ON MAY 3, 2009 THE VEHICLE JUST "DIED" IT WOULD NOT TURN ON. I HAVE JUST OVER 40000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE ELECTRICAL GOES IN AND OUT SINCE THE ENGINE WILL NOT START. THE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS, AS IT KEEPS RESETTING ITSELF AFTER THE DOOR IS OPEN AND CLOSED. I DO HEAR SOUNDS OF SOME TYPE SIMILAR TO A COMPUTER TRYING TO RESET OR KICK IN. I TRIED TO JUMPSTART THE VEHICLE BUT THAT DID NOTHING. THE ENGINE WILL JUST NOT TURN OVER. TOWING IT TO THE DEALER TOMORROW. OF COURSE THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD SINCE IT WAS SO RANDOM, WITHOUT ANY REAL WARNING TODAY, AS I HAD DRIVEN IT ONLY 10-15-MINUTES BEFORE AND HAD JUST RETURNED HOME AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO MOVE CAR SO THAT I COULD CUT THE LAWN AND IT WAS INOPERABLE. *TR

I BOUGHT A NEW 2005 EQUINOX BACK IN MARCH OF '05. OVER THIS YEAR-2008- I HAVE PROBLEMS JUST GETTING MY KEY TO TURN IN THE IGNITION. I HAVE TO WIGGLE IT BACK AND FORTH FOR A FEW MINUTES UNTIL IT CATCHES AND TURNS OVER. I CAN'T GET IN AND JUST START MY CAR. I CAN TURN MY KEY MAYBE AN INCH AND I HAVE TO TURN IT BACK AND KEEP WIGGLING IT UNTIL IT "GIVES" FOR ME TO TURN ALL THE WAY. OF COURSE, MY WARRANTY WAS UP AT 36,000 MILES WHICH I HAVE SURPASSED A FEW THOUSAND MILES AGO. I AM TRYING TO GET SOME $$ TOGETHER (THINGS ARE VERY TIGHT AS EVERYONE KNOWS!) TO GET IT LOOKED OUT. A FEW MONTHS AGO MY HUSBANDS MOTHER DROVE HIS 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX TO THE STORE AND THE BATTERY DIED. THEY JUMPED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING HAS BEEN FINE UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO. WE HAD TO JUMP START MY HUSBANDS CAR A FEW DAYS AGO AND THAT IS WHEN HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THE CD PLAYER STAYING ON AFTER THE CAR WAS OFF. WHEN YOU LISTEN TO THE CD PLAYER IT SOUNDS LIKE PLAYER IS TRYING TO EJECT A CD BUT IT WONT AND EVENTUALLY IT SAYS ON THE SCREEN "CD CHANGER ERROR." IT EVEN DOES THIS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF SO IT ENDS UP KILLING THE BATTERY. MY HUSBAND HAS TO UNPLUG THE FUSE FOR THE CD PLAYER OR IT DRAINS HIS BATTERY. AND STILL HAVING IT UNPLUGGED THE VEHICLE HAS A HARD TIME STARTING BECAUSE IT IS LIKE IT CAN NO LONGER HOLD A CHARGE. WHEN WE MENTIONED THIS TO MY HUSBAND'S MOTHER SHE SAID WHEN IT DIED THE TIME SHE DROVE IT HAD SAID THE SAME THING. I HAVE SEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT. ONE PERSON SAID THAT THEY EVEN REPLACED THE CD PLAYER MULTIPLE TIMES AND EVERY FEW MONTHS IT DOES THE SAME THING. WE ARE GOING TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP HERE AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY, BUT I REALLY FEEL THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY CD PLAYERS AND BATTERIES EVERY FEW MONTHS. 2005 EQUINOX WITH NORMAL DRIVING, MOSTLY HIGHWAY. BEGAN TO HEAR THE TYPICAL SOUNDS OF A FAILING BEARING PRIOR TO 60,000 MILES. VIBRATION IN STEERING, HUM PRESENT WHEN DRIVING, UNEVEN WEAR ON FRONT TIRES. REPLACED RFHUB UNDER WARRANTY AT APPROX. 69,000 MILES. WITHIN 10,000 MILES THAT RFHUB BEGAN TO FAIL, BY THE TIME I COULD GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I HAD SURPASSED MY WARRANTY AND THE 12 MONTHS/12,000 WARRANTY ON THE INSTALLED PART VIA THE DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD THAT IT WASN'T OUT OF THE ORDINARY FOR THE PART TO FAIL SO QUICKLY, WHICH IS NEWS TO ME! HOW CAN A BEARING FAIL THAT QUICKLY AND NOT BE DEFECTIVE. WAS FORCED TO PAY OVER 500.00 TO REPLACE IT. HAVE COMPLAINED NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT A RATTLE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPY ROADS AND RECEIVED THE "WE COULDN'T REPLICATE IT" RESPONSE SINCE INITIAL COMPLAINT PRIOR TO 60,000 MILES. HAVE HEARD THAT THE TIERODS ARE TO BLAME, HAVE MENTIONED IT, BUT STILL DEAL WITH THIS RATTLE THAT GOES UNACCOUNTED. ALSO HAVE BAD ELECTRICAL THAT "CAN'T BE REPLICATED" AT THE DEALERSHIP. RADIO AND PANEL IN DASH FLASH AT RANDOM TIMES AS IF A WIRE WERE LOOSE OR SHORTING, LOUD BOOMING THUDS COME FROM THE SPEAKERS AT THE SAME TIME. SPEAKER BLEW IN DOOR, BUT AFTER WARRANTY. REGARDLESS OF NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THESE THINGS WHEN TAKEN IN TO GET LOOKED AT. FUEL GAGE STICKS, BUT EITHER HAVE TO PAY 120.00 TO POSSIBLY CORRECT IT WITH A FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER, OR PAY 700.00 TO REPLACE FUEL FILTER. SUCH GREAT OPTIONS. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX THAT HAS EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. FIRST I HAD IGNITION PROBLEMS, AIR CONDITIONER PROBLEMS, BATTERY BEING DRAINED WITHOUT CAUSE, WINDOW CONTROL AND SO FORTH. EACH TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND EACH TIME A REPAIR WAS MADE. ONLY AFTER THE WARRANTY WAS OUT DID I DISCOVER BY ACCIDENT THAT THE PROBLEMS WERE CAUSED BY A FAULTY WIRING HARNESS. THE MAIN DASH WIRING HARNESS LOCATED IN THE LEFT FLOOR PANEL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAS SIGNS OF MELTING, AND SHORTS WITH THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT. THE SHORTAGE CAUSES THE AIR CONDITIONER TO STOP BLOWING AND WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE TO COMPLETELY DIE OUT. I HAVE HAD THE CAR EVALUATED BY TWO MECHANICS WHO BOTH STATED, WITHOUT KNOWING SOMEONE ELSE HAD LOOKED AT IT, THAT THE CAR IS A FIRE HAZARD AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. I ALSO SPOKE WITH A LOCAL BODY SHOP THAT HAS REPAIRED AT LEAST ONE EQUINOX THAT BURNED DUE TO THIS SAME WIRING HARNESS. THE REPAIRS ARE CURRENTLY BEING MADE AT A COST OF $4,000.00. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A MORE WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM THAN HAS BEEN REPORTED AND HOPE THAT OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS WILL SPEAK OUT AS GENERAL MOTORS IS UNWILLING TO INVESTIGATE THIS. I ENCOURAGE NEW CAR BUYERS TO BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY, AS I HAVE BEEN SORELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR PRODUCT AND SERVICE. *TR THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THERE WAS A ROARING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE STEERING. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY. DEALER BLAMED THE FAILURE ON ICE IN THE WHEEL WELL. THEN THE TROUBLE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ISSUE HAS NOT YET BEEN FIXED PROPERLY. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T START. THE DEALER CLEANED THE CONNECTOR, HOWEVER THE COMPUTER DID NOT PICK UP ANY DIAGNOSTIC HISTORY, EVEN THOUGH THE TROUBLE LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON QUITE CONSISTENTLY. ON FEB 25, 2006 THE CONSUMER ONCE AGAIN LOST STEERING, BUT REGAINED IT AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE. AT THAT TIME THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE TROUBLE LIGHT CONTINUED TO COME ON AND ONCE AGAIN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT BY PUSHING ON THE FUSE BOX, THE VEHICLE WOULD START AND STEER. ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER BECAME STRANDED, THE DOORS WOULDN'T UNLOCK AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START, BUT THE HORN WORKED. THE CONSUMER LET THE VEHICLE SIT OVERNIGHT AND WHEN SHE CAME BACK, THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK, SHE OPENED THE DOOR MANUALLY AND POUNDED ON THE FUSE BOX, AND THE VEHICLE STARTED UP. THE SECOND TIME THE CONSUMER BECAME STUCK, POUNDING ON THE FUSE BOX DID NOT WORK AND THE VEHICLE DIDN'T START, EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY WAS FINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND FOR THE SECOND TIME, THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. AS SOON AS THE CONSUMER LEFT THE DEALER THE TROUBLE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING CONTINUES TO GO OUT A COUPLE OF TIMES. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE RESUME BUTTON FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK PROPERLY. *JB

TOOK TOO LONG; CALLED CAMPUS SECURITY GOT A JUMP START, CAR DROVE FINE DIED AGAIN UNTIL OCT 13. JUMP STARTED AGAIN, OCT 18 DIED AGAIN, CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE HAD IT TOWED TO HERB ADCOX CHEVY. THEY STILL HAVE IT AND SAY IT IS RUNNING FINE...NO DIAGNOSTIC PROBLEMS SHOWING ON COMPUTER. FILED AN ISSUE WITH 800CHEVUSA.... THEY SAY EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY(CAR STILL IN ORIGINAL WARRANTY NOW) THAT THIS ISSUE MAY NOT BE COVERED. THE CAR IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. CHEVY CANNOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS SO I AM STUCK WONDERING WHEN IT WILL DIE AGAIN. I ALSO REPORTED NOXIOUS FUMES (SMELLS LIKE RANCID BUTTER)MOST LIKELY FROM ANTIFREEZE PROBLEM LIKE OTHER 2005 EQUINOX'S AND A BRAKE SHIMMY PROBLEM AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS(ENTIRE CAR SEEMS UNSTABLE). WHERE DO I BEGIN I BOUGHT A CHEVY EQUINOX 2005 BRAND NEW AND HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS!! THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. IT CONTINUOSLY COMES ON AND WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE DEARLERSHIP THEY NEVER SEEM TO BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY FIX THE CORRECT PROBLEM. I HAVE REPLACED A HEADGASKET, THERMOSTAT, INTERNAL GASKET, FRONT ROTERS AND BRAKES, DEALERSHIP STATES THAT I NEED NEW FRONT ROTERS AND BRAKES AGAIN IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN 1 YEAR SINCE THE FIRST SET. I'VE HAD NEW SHOCK PLUGS AND A COIL PUT IN, ETC. THIS ALL STARTED LAST NOV. WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND STILL IS HAVING PROBLEMS. I AM SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS CAR. I ALWAYS PARKED CAR IN A GARAGE, BUT THIS DAY NO SPOTS WERE OPEN SO I PARKED ON THE STREET AND WENT TO WORK. ABOUT A 1/2 HOUR LATER I LOOKED THE WINDOW AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR. I RAN OUT TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, AND SAW FIRE ON THE BACK BUMPER AREA ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. SOMEONE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. WHILE I GRABBED A FEW THINGS OUT OF THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT T CAME AND EVENTUALLY PUT OUT THE FIRE. I HAVE NEVER KNOWN A CAR TO SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTION BEFORE, AND IT WAS A VERY TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE. THE CAR WAS DESTROYED BETWEEN THE FIRE, SMOKE AND WATER, AND DECLARED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE APPEARED TO BE IN THE TAIL LIGHT SECTION AND TO BE ELECTRICAL IN NATURE. I DID NOT HAVE ANY PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR, AND IT WAS EQUIPPED AS ORIGINALLY LEASED FROM THE DEALER. IT WAS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD AND STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY. THANKFULLY ,NO ONE WAS HURT/KILLED THIS TIME. I BELIEVE THIS CAR WAS DEFECTIVE AND POSED A VERY REAL DANGER TO MY FAMILY AS WELL AS MY COWORKERS.
