The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that upon inserting the key into the ignition switch, it failed to function properly. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V302000 (POWER TRAIN). However, the failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Countryside Chevrolet (71 Cat Creek Rd, Franklin, NC 28734), where the ignition switch was replaced for a second time under the recall. However, the failure persisted. The contact's daughter was unable to start the vehicle after several attempts. The contact contacted AAA who assisted her daughter to start the vehicle. The contact's daughter was able to continue driving. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

I was at the car wash, when the vehicle was near the end, suddenly the engine light and powertrain light came on then shut off automatically. I tried to restart, put the truck in the drive, but it wouldn't go like the gas wasn't reaching. So, I turned it off and restarted to see if the lights would go off, but it didn't. I was able to get it home safely. It doesn't take off right away when you gas the pedal. When I stop at the stop sign, it takes a minute before it starts moving again. This is not safe to drive, especially when making a turn, pulling off to traffic. If it doesn't take off in time, it could be an accident due this problem. I hope there's a solution this problem. It was recently brought to my attention that the keys can fall out of the ignition with the vehicle running. Which creates an extreme likelihood that the vehicle can move forward or backward without assistance. My keys fall right out of the ignition you should not be able to take the keys out of an ignition with it running or not in park. Has not been confirmed by the dealership yet that’s my next step. And yes it can be reproduced at any time. Sometimes the key will not even start the vehicle. Hi had never reached over and just tried to take the keys out of the ignition to see if they would come out but I recently rented a room where the owner has the exact same car and the same thing happened to him and he had the ignition replaced. This is how I know that it happens because he reached over and was able to pull my keys right out with the vehicle running. I was shocked. Also at one point it says there is automatic transmission recall and mine is making weird movements and jerking motions sometimes not just on my car but on my landlord’s car as well. Maybe that needs to be looked at.

MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE OFF POSITION, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING. THE BATTERY TERMINALS WERE DISCONNECTED AND THE VEHICLE SHUT-OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RICK HENDRICK CHEVROLET NORFOLK (6252 E. VIRGINIA BEACH BLVD, NORFOLK, VA 23502, (757) 266-5804) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. TAKATA RECALL: I BOUGHT MY CHEVY EQUINOX IN AUGUST OF 2017, SINCE TAKING IT HOME IT HAS HAD A LURCHING PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING OR WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. IT LURCHES FORWARD AND BACKWARDS LIKE A BULL TRYING TO THROW YOU OFF. I PUT NEW BRAKES ON EVERY 3 MONTHS BECAUSE MY BRAKES DO NOT WORK EVEN WHEN BRAND NEW, AND WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE THE CAR WON'T STOP, OR THE BRAKE PULSES AND VIBRATES. I'VE HAD TO ABS SENSOR REPLACED 4X, O2 SENSOR 3X NEW BRAKES EVERY 3 MONTHS, NEW TIRES EVERY 6 MONTHS, REGULAR OIL CHANGES, IT'S HAD IT'S VALVES REPLACED, IT'S HAD NEW BRAKE LINES, NEW SHOCKS, REGULAR ALIGNMENTS, IT'S HAD A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER PUT IN. THE CARS RPM SPIKES TO 8000 WHEN DOING 30 MILES AN HOUR THROUGH A SMALL TOWN. THE WHEEL VIBRATES WHEN ON A HIGHWAY ABS LIGHT NEVER COMES OFF. T/C TURNS OFF ANYTIME I MAKE A TURN. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS I SWEAR PERMANTLY ON. . I'VE BEEN TOLD THIS CAN BE A TRANSMISSION AND GEAR SHIFT PROBLEM, BUT THAT ALL 3 OF MY REGULAR MECHANICS CALL THIS PROBLEM THE GHOST PROBLEM, BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT AND ALWAYS TELL ME TO NOT DRIVE IT THAT IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BUT IT'S MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I AM 5 MONTHS PREGNANT AND CANNOT AFFORD A NEW CAR RIGHT NOW. I WENT TO GET MY INSPECTION STICKER AND RECEIVED AN SAFETY/EMISSIONS RECALL SHEET OF PAPER INDICATING THAT I MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS DEFECT NUMBER: 2529, ENGINE FAMILY:5GMXV02.2025, EMISSION PROBLEM: SOME ENGINE CONTROL MODULES OR POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULES HAVE POTENTIALLY DAMAGED INTEGRATED CIRCUITS. THIS MAY CAUSE THE EGR SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION OR CAUSE THE FUEL PUMP TO TURN OFF OR THE TURBO SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT A MECHANIC HAS TOLD ME ABOUT THE EGR SYSTEM. A LOUD POP OCCURRED DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND THEN A NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN THE SUSPENSION WAS FELT. THIS OCCURRED AFTER CAREFULLY OBSERVING THE TROUBLESOME BEHAVIOR OF THE TURNING CAPABILITIES AND SUSPENSION OF THE TIRES. IT SEEMED TO MAKE AN AWFUL GRINDING NOISE WHEN MAKING RIGHT TURNS BUT NOT LEFT TURNS. PREVIOUSLY BEFORE THESE PROBLEMS AROSE, THE APPARENT ISSUE OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND ITS FUNCTIONING PARTS(POWER DOORS, WINDOWS ETC.) WERE MALFUNCTIONING, INCLUDING THE RADIO. AT THE INITIAL PURCHASE OF THE CAR THE ONLY SEEMINGLY HARMLESS THING TO MIND WAS THE STICKING OF THE IGNITION SWITCH AT TIMES. TO DATE, THE CAR IS NOT ABLE TO REVERSE FROM PARKING POSITION, AND HAS A NEW ISSUE OF LOCKING UP TOTALLY AND NOT ABLE TO ENGAGE FORWARD. I HAD TROUBLE INSERTING THE KEY IN TO THE IGNITION. AFTER INSERTED I DROVE THE CAR TO THE STORE. WHEN I TURNED OFF THE CAR THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. AFTER WIGGLING THE KEY AROUND IT FINALLY CAME OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED. WHEN I TRIED TO PUT THE KEY BACK IN THE IGNITION THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NOT UNLOCK. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE COLUMN UNLOCKED AND THE KEY WAS ABLE TO BE INSERTED AND THE CAR STARTED. THIS HAS OCCURRED REPEATEDLY SINCE THE ABOVE DATE. *TR

I HAD TO HAVE MY BATTERY REPLACED TODAY. MY BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT IS NOT COMPLETELY TURNED OFF WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK. FOR A YEAR OR SO I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD AND MY CARS KEY HAS BEEN REMOVABLE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. I HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE IGNITION SWITCH BEFORE TO MY DEALERSHIP OVER THE YEARS WITH NO RESOLVE. SINCE THE RECALL OF OTHER GM MODELS DURING THE SAME YEAR MY CAR WAS MADE RECENTLY I HAVE READ OVER THESE ISSUES AND MY EQUINOX IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. GM APPARENTLY KNOWS THERE IS A PROGRAM ERROR WHICH NEEDS AN UPDATE, AND I AM SUPPOSE TO PAY TO FIX THE KNOWN PROBLEM? YET THERE IS NO SAFETY BULLETIN FOR THIS KNOWN PROBLEM? THE MAIN DASH WIRING HARNESS LOCATED IN THE LEFT FLOOR PANEL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAS SIGNS OF MELTING, AND SHORTS WITH THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT. THE SHORTAGE CAUSES THE AIR CONDITIONER TO STOP BLOWING AND WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE TO COMPLETELY DIE OUT. I HAVE HAD THE CAR EVALUATED BY TWO MECHANICS WHO BOTH STATED, WITHOUT KNOWING SOMEONE ELSE HAD LOOKED AT IT, THAT THE CAR IS A FIRE HAZARD AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ON SEPTEMBER 19 2005 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS NOISE. A TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND HEARD THE NOISE , AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE FRONT STRUTS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE REPAIRS THE VEHICLE WAS STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME NOISE PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK ON A THIRD OCCASION O ON OCTOBER 14, 2005. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE CLUTCH DRUM MODULE, THE FILTERS, AND THE POWER TRAIN DRIVE LINE WAS LUBRICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AND IT EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK

2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX TRANSMISSION CONSTANTLY FAILS TO HOLD VEHICLE IN PLACE WHEN STOPPED OR PARKED.*MR THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD WHEN PLACED IN REVERSE AND MUST BE STOPPED FROM ROLLING FORWARD BY STEPPING ON THE BRAKE OR STEEPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE HEAT HE WAS FEELING WAS FROM NATURAL SOURCES. THE FRONT SIDE WINDOW AND DOOR SUPPORTS INTERFERED WITH THE CONSUMERS VISION. THE DOORS CONSTANTLY CREAK AND MAKE LOUD NOISES WHEN OPENED. THE BACK HEAD RESTS IMPAIR THE REAR WINDOW VISIBILITY. *JB

THE CAR HAS BEEN THE SHOP 9 TIMES WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT REASONS. THE ANTIFREEZE LINE WASN'T BLED RIGHT AND THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING IN THE GROUND. THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE DOME LIGHT AND SUNROOF, THE SUSPENSION AND ENGINE WOULD TICK, THE HORN DID NOT WORK, THERE WERE FRONT END PROBLEM, THE SHIFTER WOULD STICK, THERE IGNITION PROBLEM, NOISE WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE, GAS MILEAGE PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A TOXIC SMELL FROM THE ANTI-FREEZE, THE VEHICLE OVER HEATED, THE BRAKES MADE NOISES, THE CONSUMER HAD DRIVEN THROUGH A CAR WASH, THE DOME LIGHT HAD FILLED WITH WATER, THE LOWER DASH WAS DRIPPING WATER AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN BRAKING,THERE WAS POOR GAS MILEAGE DURING CITY DRIVING, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISES WHEN MAKING TURNS ON THE FRONT STRUTS, THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND, THE SHIFTER WOULD STICK, THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS BINDING, THERE WAS POPPING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED FROM COLD, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR. *SC *JB

RECEIVED THREE DIFFERENT EXPLAINATIONS OF PROBLEM. VALVE BODY WAS REPLACED. WITHIN ONE WEEK SAME PROBLEM, WHEN DRIVING SLOW SPEED ON COUNTRY ROADS WITH STEEP INCLINES, HOWEVER DID NOT SHOW ON COMPUTER AGAIN. TURNED CAR OFF LET IT COOL DOWN AND WORKED FINE.

I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHEN TOWING MY POP-UP CAMPER TRAILER, THE 5 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANMISION WILL NOT SHIFT FROM THIRD GEAR TO FOURTH GEAR AUTOMATICALLY. UPON REACHING CRUISING SPEED, 60 OR 65 MPH, THE ENGINE REMAINS AT A HIGH RPM UNTIL I RELEASE THE ACCELLERATOR PEDAL. THEN IT SHIFTS INTO FOURTH GEAR. I DO NOT TOW THE TRAILER IN FIFTH GEAR (OVERDRIVE). WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, A MECHANIC THAT HAS WORKED FOR THIS SAME CHEVROLET DEALER FOR MANY YEARS, DROVE THE CAR, TOWING THE TRAILER. WHEN IT DID NOT SHIFT, HE TOLD ME STRAIGHT OUT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. WHEN I LEFT THE CAR AT THE DEALER (DICK WICKSTROM CHEVROLET IN ROSELLE, ILLINOIS), THEY CLAIM TO HAVE CONTACTED THE FACTORY ENGINEERS AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY. I VERY MUCH DISAGREE WITH THAT STATEMENT. I HAVE TOWED TRAILERS BEHIND QUITE A FEW DIFFERENT VEHICLES AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I AM TIRED OF HAVING DEALERS TELL ME THAT PROBLEMS I EXPERIENCE ARE "NORMAL AND THAT THEY ALL DO THAT".

COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS 3 TIMES, AND I AM WAITING ON A CALL FROM THE DEALER NEXT WEEK FOR UPDATED INFORMATION. THE PROBLEMS ARE: 1) FOUL ODOR, HOSES FOR ANTI-FREEZE SYSTEM REPLACED PER BULLETIN; 2) REAR SQUEAKING, LUBED SAME; 3) TRANSMISSION. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT BRAKES, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED, AND THAT IT WOULD CONTINUE TO ADJUST ITSELF ACCORDING TO DRIVING CONDITIONS/ EACH DRIVER'S HABITS, AND 4) POPPING NOISE HEARD WHEN STARTING OR WHEN STOPPED WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. NOISE SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM GAS TANK AREA. ASKED FOR FUEL LINE/EXHAUST SYSTEM TO BE CHECKED. AS OF THIS TIME REPAIR CENTER CANNOT DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM, AND HAVE NO IDEAS. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND A TOTAL OF 6 DAYS. THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS IN LIMBO AS THEY ARE 'LOOKING INTO IT' AND WILL CALL ME BACK.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP BRAKES FAILED. AS A RESULT, VEHICLE CRASHED INTO FOUR OTHER VEHICLES. UPON IMPACT,EST DUAL AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY TO IT'S FULL CAPACITY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. *AK........THERE WERE NO SKID MARKS ONLY AFTER THE EQUINOX MADE CONTACT WITH OTHER VEHICLES. THE TRANSMISSION DROPPED TO THE STREET AFTER IMPACT, THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS NOT STRUCK FROM BEHIND. THE RIGHT WHEEL ON PASSENGER'S SIDE CAME OFF. ALSO, THE SHERIFF ON THE SCENE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE WAS NO BRAKE PEDAL AFTER THERE WAS ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE.*AK
