The front sub frame where it bolts to the frame was completely rusted loose on the right side. The left side was barely holding on. This is what holds the motor up and control arms. My mechanics are telling me this is a common problem with Chevy Equinoxes. If it's common why aren't there recalls. My car only has 80,000 miles on it and my mechanic told me to scrap it. I'm a fabricator and welder. I welded a new frame under it but others can't do that and mechanics say it's a no fix.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE STATE POLICE FOR VEHICLE FRAUD AN DWAS STILL WAITING FOR A CALLBACK. THE CONTACT ALSO CONTACTED COUNTY ATTORNEY GENERAL AN RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN 2026 I HAVE NOT HAD IT A YEAR YET AND AFTER THE FIRST MONTH IT HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS, THE WHEELS SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE COMING OFF AT TIMES, IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS DRAGGING UNDERNEATH, BRAKES SCRUBS EVEN WITH MY PLACING NEW ONE ON, SOMETIME IT FEEL LIKE TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT, IT PULLS HARD AT TIME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS WATER ENTERING THE MAP LIGHT. THE CONTACT ALSO HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, THE SUSPENSION WAS UNSTABLE PERTAINING TO THE CONTROL ARM, AND THE AXLE WAS LEAKING FLUID WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKES AND A HUB BEARING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE HUB BEARINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS LATER CONTACTED AND THEY ALSO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 126,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CARRIER BEARING IS FAULTY ON 2005 EQUINOXES. OUR MECHANIC TOLD US THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO FLIP OVER. THE MAJOR ISSUE IS THAT TO REPAIR THE CARRIER BEARING, THEY HAVE TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE DRIVE SHAFT. THIS HAS TO BE SENT TO CHEVROLET, AND SINCE IT CAN ONLY BE DONE BY THEM, THEY HAVE A STRONG ARM ON THE PRICE. ($1200) IT IS EVIDENT THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT BECAUSE WHEN I BEGAN TO GOOGLE 'DRIVE SHAFT CHEVY', IT GAVE ME 2005 EQUINOX AS A SUGGESTION. THE YEAR WAS SPECIFIC IN THE PROBLEM. *TR

TIRES HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TWICE SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE; ONCE AROUND 60000 MILES DUE TO "UNEVEN WEAR" WHICH WAS LIKELY A RESULT OF THE BAD ROTORS, AND AGAIN AROUND THE 100000 MARK ALSO FOR "UNEVEN WEAR". THIS COST $400 ON EACH OCCASION. AT THE 80000 MILE MARK A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT END, AND PROCEEDED TO GET WORSE UP TO THE 100000 MILE MARK. BETWEEN THOSE MILEAGE MARKS, THE FRONT END BEGAN TO FEEL VERY LOOSE. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE STRUTS PREMATURELY FAILED AND CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITION. THE COST FOR THIS REPAIR WAS OVER $1300 AND WAS REPAIRED ON JUNE 27, 2011. AFTER DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A VERY PROMINENT AND COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL. ON TOP OF THESE ISSUES, THERE IS ALSO APPARENTLY A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR END AS WELL THAT IS ALSO CREATING A KNOCKING. ALSO, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE BEGUN TO FLASH REPEATEDLY AND VERY QUICKLY AT RANDOM TIMES AS WELL AS TURNING THEMSELVES ON AND OFF. THE CD PLAYER ALSO BROKE. STARTED TO EXCEL ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND AS I BEGAN TO REACH 60 MILES PER HR THE FRONT END STARTED MOVING LOOSELY LEFT TO RIGHT. WE HAVE A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX, AS MY MECHANIC WOULD SAY, IS A PROBLEM CHILD. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED WHAT MOST HAVE WITH THE ODOR COMING FROM THE COOLING SYSTEM. OUR BIGGEST COMPLAINT IN WITH THE SUSPENSION, AND NOW THE ABS SYSTEM. IT TOOK SEVERAL VISITS TO FIGURE OUT WHY OUR VEHICLE WAS MAKING LOUD NOISES IN THE FRONT END. IT ALL STARTED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT AROUND A SHARP CORNER. FROM THAT DAY ON, WHICH WAS ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO, TILL PRESENT TIME THE CAR HAS BEEN LOAD. WE HAVE AN EXCELLENT MECHANIC. THE NOISE IN THE FRONT TURNED OUT TO BE THE STRUT PLATES. THIS COST US $300 PER SIDE. WE THOUGHT WE HAD SOLVED THE ISSUES EXCEPT FOR ABOUT A WEEK AGO A LOUDER NOISE STARED. IT FELT AND SOUNDED LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING TO BREAK IN TWO. WE BROUGHT IT BACK TO OUR MECHANIC. THIS TIME IT WAS THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM AGAIN. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS CALLED. THERE IS A ROD THAT IS FROM THE TOP OF THE STRUT THAT GOES DOWN TO THE WHEEL. THESE BOTH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE SHOP NOW. THANK FULLY THESES RODS ONLY COST $30 A PIECE. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 46000 ON IT. THEN WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE ABS SYSTEM. NOT EVERY TIME BUT QUITE FREQUENTLY WE WOULD BACK THE CAR UP AND THEY ABS WOULD ENGAGE. ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS WAS THROUGH REPLACING THE SENSORS ON THE WHEELS. IN NOT KNOWING WHICH SENSOR IS BAD WE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE ALL OF THEM WHICH WOULD AMOUT TO AT LEAST $1200. THE GOOD NEWS OR NOT SUCH GOOD NEWS, HOWEVER YOU WANT TO LOOK AT IT, THE ABS SYSTEM IS ENGAGING GOING FORWARD NOW, ON DRY PAVEMENT WHILE BRAKING. CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM CHECK THE BRAKES AGAIN. WHEN WE DID THEY TOLD US THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ALREADY. STILL HAS HALF THE LIFE ON THE BRAKES. TODAY WE TOOK IT IN TO HAVE THE SHOCKS AND STRUTS REPLACED. THIS WAS DUE TO A LOUD NOISE WE KEPT HEARING. HOPEFULLY THAT FIXED THAT PROBLEM. AS FAR AS THE BRAKES AND ROTORS, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US NOT TO WORRY ABOUT HAVING NEW ROTORS PUT ON UNTIL THE BRAKES WERE WORN. IT IS REALLY DANGEROUS ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN SOMEONE SLOWS DOWN IN FRONT OF YOU WHEN YOU'RE DOING 50 TO 65 MPH AND IT DON'T FEEL LIKE YOUR GOING TO STOP. I HAVE 13,000 MILES ON MY CAN, AND THE BRAKES ARE 40% GONE ON THE FRONT, AND 20% ON THE BACK. ALSO POOR STEERING AND HANDLING. FRONT SUSPENSION MAKES A CLUNKING SOUND. HAVE BEEN TO DEALER 3 TIMES FOR THESE PROBLEMS AND AM TOLD THAT THEY ARE NORMAL, THAT ALL EQUINOXS MAKE THE NOISE. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. FIRST, THE ENGINE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY NOT CRANK. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. SECOND, WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY DID NOT SLOW DOWN. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUMPED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE BRAKES TO ACTIVATE CORRECTLY. THIRD, THE TRANSMISSION REVVED HIGH AND INTERMITTENTLY DID NOT CHANGE GEARS CORRECTLY WHILE DRIVING. FOURTH, THE ABS LAMP ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE ABS LAMP WAS RESET. LASTLY, THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW WAS ROLLED DOWN AND WOULD NOT RISE BACK UP. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WINDOW REGULATOR AND THE WINDOW WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPEATEDLY TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND ADDRESSED THE PROBLEMS THAT COULD BE DUPLICATED AND MADE APPROPRIATE REPAIRS. HARD START/HESITATION AND ALMOST STALLING. ALSO, DETERMINED SPEED SENSOR WAS CAUSING REDUCED POWER. *AK

DT: THE CONTACT STATED ON MAY 14, 2005 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, AND TO CHECK ON A NOISE THEY COULD HEAR COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ON SEPTEMBER 19 2005 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS NOISE. A TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND HEARD THE NOISE , AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE FRONT STRUTS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE REPAIRS THE VEHICLE WAS STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME NOISE PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK ON A THIRD OCCASION O ON OCTOBER 14, 2005. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE CLUTCH DRUM MODULE, THE FILTERS, AND THE POWER TRAIN DRIVE LINE WAS LUBRICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AND IT EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK

CONTACT STATES: BOUGHT A BRAND NEW VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2004. THE ANTI-FREEZE WAS CHANGED. THE ANTI-FREEZE WAS BROWN AND THE SMELL WAS SEVERE AND NAUSEOUS. THE CAR HAS BEEN THE SHOP 9 TIMES WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT REASONS. THE ANTIFREEZE LINE WASN'T BLED RIGHT AND THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING IN THE GROUND. THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE DOME LIGHT AND SUNROOF, THE SUSPENSION AND ENGINE WOULD TICK, THE HORN DID NOT WORK, THERE WERE FRONT END PROBLEM, THE SHIFTER WOULD STICK, THERE IGNITION PROBLEM, NOISE WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE, GAS MILEAGE PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A TOXIC SMELL FROM THE ANTI-FREEZE, THE VEHICLE OVER HEATED, THE BRAKES MADE NOISES, THE CONSUMER HAD DRIVEN THROUGH A CAR WASH, THE DOME LIGHT HAD FILLED WITH WATER, THE LOWER DASH WAS DRIPPING WATER AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN BRAKING,THERE WAS POOR GAS MILEAGE DURING CITY DRIVING, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISES WHEN MAKING TURNS ON THE FRONT STRUTS, THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND, THE SHIFTER WOULD STICK, THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS BINDING, THERE WAS POPPING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED FROM COLD, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR. *SC *JB

2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING.*MR THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH VARIABLE STEERING. IT WAS THE CONSUMER'S UNDERSTANDING THAT WITH VARIABLE STEERING, THE STEERING WAS LOOSER DURING CITY DRIVING AND WOULD BECOME TIGHTER DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. THE CONSUEMR FEELS THAT THE STEERING WAS TOO LOOSE, THAT THE VEHICLE WANDERED AND PULLED TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING. *NM

COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS 3 TIMES, AND I AM WAITING ON A CALL FROM THE DEALER NEXT WEEK FOR UPDATED INFORMATION. THE PROBLEMS ARE: 1) FOUL ODOR, HOSES FOR ANTI-FREEZE SYSTEM REPLACED PER BULLETIN; 2) REAR SQUEAKING, LUBED SAME; 3) TRANSMISSION. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT BRAKES, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED, AND THAT IT WOULD CONTINUE TO ADJUST ITSELF ACCORDING TO DRIVING CONDITIONS/ EACH DRIVER'S HABITS, AND 4) POPPING NOISE HEARD WHEN STARTING OR WHEN STOPPED WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. NOISE SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM GAS TANK AREA. ASKED FOR FUEL LINE/EXHAUST SYSTEM TO BE CHECKED. AS OF THIS TIME REPAIR CENTER CANNOT DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM, AND HAVE NO IDEAS. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND A TOTAL OF 6 DAYS. THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS IN LIMBO AS THEY ARE 'LOOKING INTO IT' AND WILL CALL ME BACK.*AK
