While car is running, fuel is leaking out the top of the tank. Fuel is leaking on exhaust, right under the tank. I have seen recalls on this year and model for a ring breaking around the fuel pump.

Keys constantly stuck in the ignition. The air bag always turns on and off. Now, there's gas leaking somewhere and you can smell it well after the cars off. I think it may be the fuel pump, which is very pricey. All these were recalled in the past but none of them included my car. 😔 😟

I PURCHASED A 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX FROM A PRIVATE PARTY BACK IN JANUARY BUT DUE TO A MIX-UP WITH THE TITLE AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER I COULD NOT TITLE THE CAR AND START DRIVING IT UNTIL MARCH. I'VE NOTICED LATELY A STRONG SMELL OF GAS AND A VERY LOUD CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP IN MY TOWN AND WAS TOLD I HAD A GAS LEAK AT THE TOP OF THE TANK AND THAT THE SWAY BAR LINKAGE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED . IN DOING MY RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FUEL LEAK ON THE 2007 EQUINOXES AND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SWAY BAR LINKAGE GOING BAD AND THE SERVICE STABLE TRACK LIGHT CONSTANTLY STAYING ON. I ALSO HAVE THE PROBLEM STATING ALL WHEEL DRIVE OFF FLASHING ON MY SCREEN. I FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE PUT THEIR VIN NUMBERS IN THE SEARCH WINDOW AND FOUND THEIRS NOT TO BE PART OF THE RECALL BUT I'M WONDERING WHY IF MORE THAN JUST THE PREVIOUS RECALLED VEHICLES ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WOULDN'T THEY WANT ANOTHER RECALL ISSUED FOR THE ONES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN REPAIRED. IF THIS VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE RECALL AND A FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED, SHOULD IT HAVE BEEN LEAKING AGAIN AFTER 4 YEARS. IT WOULD HESITATE ON STARTING AND DRIVING AND PARKING THE GAS FUMES WERE SO BAD, I KNEW I HAD A LEAK SOMEWHERE, IT WAS LEAKING IN MOTION AND WHEN STATIONARY, WHEN I WOULD PARK IT AND WALK ABOUT THE PARK, THE GAS FUMES WERE THE WORST THERE, STILL COULD SMELL THE GAS IN MY CAR AND OUTSIDE BY THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS.

I HAVE DOCUMENT FOR THAT. NOW MY KEY IN THE IGNITION DOES NOT COME OUT AND I HEAR A CLICKING NOISE BY THE IGNITION I'M NOT SURE IF THAT AS WELL IS A RECALL ON THE EQUINOX 2007. I GOT THIS CAR FROM FREDERI K AUTO CENTER IN MARCH. EVER SINCE THEN I HAD PROBLEMS. I TOLD THEM I LET THEM. KNKW ABOUT THEM AND THEY ALWAYS SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. THE ONE TIME THEY WERE SUPOOSE TO FIX SOMETHING THEY HAD THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS AND RHEY PUT TAPE ALL OVER THE HOSES RO STOP THE LEAKS. THEY ALSO FAILED THE MD INSPECTION CONSIDERING MY WIRES ARE MELTED TOGETHER AND MY IGNITION DOESNT WORK RIGHT WHICH WOULDNT HAVE PASS. THEN THEY REPO IT WHEN I WQSNT LATE ON MY PAYEMNT BECAUSE I SAID I WANT IT FIXED SINXE IT WAS SOLS THAT WAY OR I WILL FILE A COMPALINT. EVERYTHING QAS ILLEGAL THATBTHEY DID.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SOMETIMES THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AND I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON THEN TURN THE WHEEL, BUT SOMETIMES IT TAKES MORE THAN THIS TO GET THE KEY OUT FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR COULD DUPLICATE PROBLEM. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR I HAD DRIVE IT 15 MILES AND THE CAR STARTED DOING THE SAME THING.

ON NOVEMBER 17TH THE VEHICLE STARTED TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING AND TO TURN A/C OFF. A/C WAS NOT EVEN ON BECAUSE IT WAS COLD AND THE HEAT WAS BLOWING COLD AIR. THE VEHICLE THEN TOLD ME WHILE I WAS TRYING TO GET TO A SAFE LOCATION TO PULL OVER THAT THE ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED AND THE VEHICLE STATED TO CRAWL ALONG THE ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LOOKED AT WHERE I PULLED OVER THERE WAS MINIMAL OIL IN THE VEHICLE AND IT HAD BLOW COOLANT ALL OVER THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WELL FROM WHAT LOOKED LIKE THE OVERFLOW TUBE. OIL WAS PUT IN THE VEHICLE SO THAT I COULD DRIVE IT TO A SAFE LOCATION. ON NOVEMBER 18TH I WENT TO START THE VEHICLE TO GO TO WORK AND WITHOUT GOING ANY PLACE BUT SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY IT STARTED TO TELL ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND TO TURN A/C OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I USE WORKED ON IT AND REPLACED THE TEMP CONTROL AND THERMOSTAT AND DID A COMPLETE OIL CHANGE. IN THE FEW DAYS AFTER THIS WORK WAS DONE I COULD STILL HEAR THE FAN RUNNING WHILE DRIVING AND ONCE I PARKED IT WOULD RUN FOR A WHILE. ON NOVEMBER 25TH I WAS DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE STATED TO SAY ENGINE OVERHEATING AND TO TURN A/C OFF ONCE AGAIN I HAD TO TRAVEL A SHORT DISTANCE TO GET A SEMI SAFE LOCATION TO PULL OVER SINCE THE ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE CRAWLED ALONG. THE HEATER WAS BLOWING COLD AIR I COULD HEAR THE FANS RUNNING INSIDE THE VEHICLE AS WELL. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED IN A WEEK. IT IS NOW NOVEMBER 30TH AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY VEHICLE BACK BECAUSE THEY ARE STILL "WORKING" ON IT. I SEE A LOT OF 2006 EQUINOX'S WITH THE SAME ISSUE NOT SURE WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS VERY INCONVENIENT TO NOT HAVE A CAR AND TO MISS WORK. IT FIRST STARTED 3 MONTHS AGO TOOK IT TO FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE RECOMMENDATION I RECEIVED FROM SERVICE AGENT WAS TO GET FUEL SYSTEM CLEANED AND CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUIDS WHICH COST ME AROUND $298. THE SAME DAY IT DID THE SAME THING WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, SO I LET IT BE FOR A WHILE BUT IT CONTINUES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE CONTACTED SERVICE AGENT BUT HAVE NO SOLUTION FOR ME. THE OTHER ISSUE IT HAS IS THE KEY ALWAYS GETS STUCK, AND NEED TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON THEN TURN THE WHEEL, BUT SOMETIMES IT TAKES MORE THAN THIS TO GET THE KEY OUT FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH.

IN ADDITION, GM HAS NOT COME UP WITH THE NEW FUEL PUMPS TO REPLACE THE BAD ONES. UPON RETURNING HOME THAT EVENING, I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE A NEWS STORY ON TV ABOUT A RECALL MADE BY CHEVROLET FOR THE VERY PROBLEM I HAD JUST HAD. AND THEN THE UNBELIEVABLE NEWS THAT THEY WOULD RECALL ONLY CERTAIN "WARM WEATHER" STATES. I LIVE IN VIRGINIA, WHICH WAS NOT INCLUDED, BUT IT GETS HOT HERE TOO. I AM APPALLED THAT THE RECALL WASN'T SENT TO EVERY OWNER THAT MIGHT BE AFFECTED BY THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT. ON 7 FEB. 2013 I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AS THERE WAS A CONSTANT SMELL OF FUEL. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE DROPPED TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FUEL LEAK THOUGH THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SIGN OF LEAKING FUEL. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL MODULE THAT SET ABOVE THE FUEL TANK HAD CRACKED AND WAS CAUSING THE SMELL/LEAK. I WAS INFOMED THAT TO REPAIR THE ISSUE IT WOULD COST ME OVER $1200.00 TO REPAIR. I CONTACTED GM AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE CURRENT RECALL THAT IS ONGOING IN FOUR OTHER STATES. I INQUIRED AS TO WHY AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT REGISTERED NOR DID I RESIDE IN ONE OF THE STATES AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE CAR HAS A STRONG GAS SMELL COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR. I HAVE READ TESTIMONY AFTER TESTIMONY ONLINE OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL ALSO NOT BEING INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. DETECTED SMELL OF GASOLINE WHILE PARKED AMONG MANY OTHER CARS. DID NOT THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL AT HOME DETECTED SMELL OF GASOLINE INSIDE AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE. LOOK AROUND AND SAW GAS DRIPPING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR. CHECK UNDER THE CAR AND IT SEEMED LIKE GAS LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND AGREED ON REPAIR. WHEN TO DEALER, AND THE SERVICE GUY SAY "YOUR VEHICLE DOES NOT SHOW ANY OPEN RECALLS AND THAT ONLY CERTAIN ONE HAVE THAT FUEL PUMP MODULE RECALL. I TOLD HIM "LOOK AT THE LETTER" BUT I GOT NOWHERE. AT FIRST IT WAS THOUGHT THAT THE TANK HAD CRACKED, BUT AFTER THE FUEL TANK WAS DROPPED A CRACKED PLASTIC SUPPLY LINE LEADING INTO THE FUEL PUMP WAS FOUND. I HAD THE MODULE REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. AFTER THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED I HEARD OF A RECALL ISSUED BY GM FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL WAS SPECIFIC TO CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS THAT WERE LOCATED IN THE STATES OF ARIZONA, NEVADA AND TEXAS AND AS MY VEHICLE IS REGISTERED IN NY THIS RECALL DOES NOT COVER MY VEHICLE. HOW CAN A SAFETY RECALL BE ISSUED FOR A SPECIFIC PROBLEM AND NOT COVER ALL VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE RISK OF FIRE FROM MY LEAKY FUEL PUMP WAS THE SAME AS THE CARS LOCATED IN THOSE OTHER STATES. THIS MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE TO ME. HOWEVER, THE RECALL IS ONLY BEING ISSUED IN A FEW STATES, NOT INCLUDING PENNSYLVANIA, WHERE I LIVE. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AND MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. GM SUGGESTED I TAKE THE CAR TO A GM DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO STATED THAT THEY DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH GM AND THEY OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST 50/50 WITH ME. WITH THE 50% DISCOUNT, THE COST TO ME IS STILL NEARLY $500.00. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 8/26/11 AT GREENWAY CHEVROLET IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA AT 87K MILEAGE. I SMELL GAS COMING FROM THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL AREA AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DAVID MAUS IN SANFORD, FLORIDA ON 5/1/12 TOLD THEM TO CHECK VEHICLE FOR THE SMELL AND TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. VERY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE FUMES COMING FROM RIGHT REAR OF VEHICLE. DISCOVERED A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE DIRECTLY UNDER THE GAS TANK- THE FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM ABOVE AND DRIPPING ALONG THE SIDE OF THE TANK. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR SERVICE AND THEY FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS LEAKING. FUEL PUMP/HOSE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AT NO COST. CLEARLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR FIRE. WITH TWO YOUNG CHILDREN THAT RIDE IN THIS CAR I FIND IT VERY CONCERNING THAT THERE ARE SO MANY SIMILAR FUEL LEAK COMPLAINTS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN OVERPOWERING ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

I HAVE HAD MY EQUINOX SINCE 2008; IT IS A 2007 MODEL. I HAVE HAD CONTINUAL REPAIRS ON THE ELECTRICAL REAR LIGHTS AND THE BELT TENSIONER, BUT THIS NEXT REPAIR IS BY FAR THE WORST. WHEN THE CAR WAS IN PARK POSITION THE ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS STRONG AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE CAR. WHEN DRIVING, THE SMELL OF GAS CIRCULATED INTO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM PENETRATING THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THE SMELL WAS STRONGEST ON THE OUTER SIDE BY THE GAS TANK. I TOOK THE CAR TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND A LEAK ABOVE THE GAS TANK. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING GASOLINE, ABOUT SIX INCHES FROM THE MUFFLER. THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY OR FATALITIES AS I REGULARLY CARRY CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. THIS CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND IT SEEMS TO REQUIRE TOO MANY REPAIRS FOR THE FEW YEARS/MILES IT HAS TRAVELED. AS A THOUGHTFUL VEHICLE OWNER, I TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PRESERVE THE LIFE OF MY VEHICLE THROUGH REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND COVERED STORAGE FROM NATURAL ELEMENTS. A VERY STRONG ODOR IS COMING INTO THE CAR I CALLED THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR EQUINOX BUT IT HASN'T BEEN RE CALLED . I LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM AND THERE'S A TON OF CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THIS IS SO DANGEROUS TO HAVE. I HAVE COUNTED OVER 200 OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, ON THE SAME MODEL YEAR ON VARIOUS OTHER AUTOMOTIVE HELP SITES. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT PUTTING HUMAN LIFE'S IN JEOPARDY. ON APPROXIMATELY JULY 9, 2012 WE SMELLED GAS FUMES FROM OUR 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. IT HAPPENED ONE OR TWO MORE TIMES AFTER THAT. ON JULY 19 WE NOTICED THE SMELL WAS VERY STRONG AND WE BECAME CONCERNED. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE WE TAKE THE CAR, MIKE ANDERSON CHEVROLET IN CHICAGO, AND TOLD THEM WE WERE BRINGING THE CAR IN DUE TO A GAS SMELL AND A POSSIBLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. AFTER THEY CHECKED THE CAR, THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO DROP THE FUEL TANK TO SEE WHERE THE LEAK WAS. THEY DID THAT AND FOUND THAT THE LEAK WAS IN THE LINES THAT RAN FROM THE FUEL PUMP. THEY ESTIMATED THE COST OF REPAIR AT APPROXIMATELY $1300. I TOLD THEM TO GO AHEAD WITH THE REPAIR. I THEN CONTACTED CHEVROLET TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE WE HAD SUCH LOW MILEAGE ON THE CAR. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 4 DAYS, CHEVROLET AGREED TO PAY 15% OF THE COST OF REPAIR. *TR

ANYTIME WE START THE EQUINOX UP, ALL YOU SMELL IS RAW GASOLINE SMELL. IT FILLS UP THE CABIN, AND GIVES ME BAD HEADACHES. WE HAD LOOKED FOR OBVIOUS LEAKS BUT DIDN'T SEE ANY AT FIRST. WE WEREN'T LOSING MUCH IF ANY GAS MILEAGE, UNTIL THE LAST 2 TANKS WHEN IT'S GOTTEN WORSE. MY COWORKERS KNOW WHEN I GET TO WORK WITHOUT SEEING ME BECAUSE THE FUEL ODOR IS SO BAD, THEY CAN SMELL ME UPON ARRIVAL. I HAVE BEEN HAVING HEADACHES FREQUENTLY, AND SOMETIMES EVEN FEEL NAUSEATED. LAST MONDAY WAS THE FIRST TIME, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING BEHIND ME IN OUR OTHER VEHICLE AND HE TOLD ME TO PULL OVER AT THE NEXT GAS STATION, BECAUSE I WAS ACTUALLY LEAKING FUEL THIS TIME. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH, HERE I STILL HAD ABOUT 20-25 MILES TO DRIVE BEFORE GETTING HOME, AND YET I AM LIKE A TRAVELING EXPLOSION WAITING TO HAPPEN. I RESEARCHED MONDAY NIGHT AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE TONS OF OTHERS IN OUR SAME BOAT. THIS IS A DANGER TO US, AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD WHEN IT GETS READY TO BLOW. GM NEEDS TO BACK UP THEIR PRODUCTS AND DO A MANDATORY RECALL BEFORE PEOPLE GET KILLED FROM THEIR NEGLIGENCE. I HAVE BARELY 60,000 MILES, NEVER WRECKED OR COMPROMISED. I BOUGHT IT WITH 8,000 MILES IN 2008. I BEGAN TO SMELL RAW FUEL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF MY VEHICLE A FEW WEEKS AGO AND THINKING THAT IT MAY GO AWAY, BUT DIDN'T. I HAVE HAD DEBILITATING HEADACHES FROM IT AND MY HUSBAND RODE WITH ME ONE DAY AND SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO DIAGNOSE THAT IT WAS A DEFINITE LEAK IN THE TANK AREA, BUT WITHOUT TAKING THE TANK DOWN COMPLETELY, HE COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE EXACT SPOT. AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM A 2 HOUR ROAD TRIP I NOTICED A HEAVY GASOLINE ODOR IN MY GARAGE. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I WENT TO START MY VEHICLE IT HAD TROUBLE STARTING AND THE HEAVY GASOLINE ODOR PERSISTED. I COULD ALSO SMELL GASOLINE INSIDE THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IS NOTICED AFTER VEHICLE IS STARTED AND RAN. CHECKING BENEATH FUEL TANK, IT IS VISIBLE THAT GASOLINE IS LEAKING FROM PUMP/CONNECTIONS AREA ON TOP OF TANK. ALSO HAS THE LEAK IN VICINITY OF EXHAUST CREATING A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD, NOT TO MENTION HEALTH HAZARD FROM BREATHING FUEL VAPORS. THE EXHAUST WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED TO FACILITATE REMOVAL OF FUEL TANK IN ORDER TO CORRECT OR REPLACE LEAKING PUMP. THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN OPERABLE CONDITION AND A PERSON WOULD ASSUME THAT EXTERNAL LEAKAGE WOULD RESULT IN A SAFETY RECALL TO REPAIR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. NORMALLY YOU DO NOT HAVE A LEAKAGE OF THE PUMP BEFORE A COMPLETE FAILURE OF SAID PUMP. I PERSONALLY THINK THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD RECALL AND PAY FOR REPAIRS. WHILE DRIVING MY EQUINOX, I SMELLED GAS AND THOUGHT I HAD WASTED GAS WHEN I WENT TO THE GAS STATION. AFTER SMELLING GAS FOR WEEKS, MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE TRUCK AND FOUND IT HAD GAS LEAKING FROM IT. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND THAT IT WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL ASSEMBLY AND STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. AFTER CALLING GM THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AND STATES THAT IF YOUR WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING A FLAT TIRE REPAIRED ON THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHICLE THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED A FUEL LEAK. I CALLED THE DEALER AND TOOK THE CAR TO BE LOOKED AT AND REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A SPECIAL BULLETIN CONCERNING THE FUEL LEAKS. I PROVIDED THE VIN AND THE SERVICE MANAGER CHECKED AND SAID THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. I STATED THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BUT GM DOES NOT WANT TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT $1100 FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. I WILL SEEK COMPENSATION FROM GM MYSELF. GM WOULD NOT HELP THE DEALER BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE. IT SHOULD NOT MATTER ABOUT THE MILEAGE FOR THIS FUEL LEAK BECAUSE OF THE PROXIMITY OF THE LEAK RIGHT NEXT TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. APPARENTLY, THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT 2006-2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX HAVING A STRONG FUEL SMELL AROUND THE VEHICLE. IN MOST CASES, THE FUEL LEAKAGE IS COMING FROM THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, AN O-RING OR GASKET CONNECTING TO THE TANK ITSELF IS USUALLY THE CAUSE OF THE LEAKAGE, CAUSING FUEL TO POOL ON THE TOP OF THE TANK. LEAKING FUEL IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD CAUSE FIRE AND EXPLOSION IF IGNITED, FUEL VAPORS ARE UNHEALTHY TO INHALE AND FUEL VAPORS ARE GENERALLY NOT GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.
