However, after the failure, the low engine power warning message would display. The vehicle was able to restart however the failure would recur. The failure occurred on 4 separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was no oil, although the panel showed the vehicle had 40% oil, transmission, and a high-pressure fuel pump. The vehicle was repaired but the failures persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 115,000.

The contact stated that two calipers and the boot of the axle were previously repaired due to a leak. The mechanic stated that the contact needed to replace the engine variable valve timing. I bought a Chevy Equinox in 6/2020 and have had high oil consumption problems. I took it in to where I bought it and they said it was a catalog converter problem along with seals and pistons that could damage your engine. After researching it, i found out there was a recall and class action suit fought in 2018 for the same problem. I was never told about this from the dealer and because it's outside the date to fix under the recall and warranty I have to pay for all the damage. The car broke down yesterday and had to be towed. What can I do? I'm still financing the vehicle
I have had my vehicle for only a year and bought it used from a dealership here in town. I understand that the vehicle is nearly 12 years old though I have seen vehicles that were way older and not have half the problems that I am having with mine and it has been well keep and maintenance has been up to date. Early this week my car had been warming up for nearly 30 minutes and I put it in drive and it jerk harder then normal. I just thought it was because it went from hot to cold outside overnight that that was the problem. Though as I was driving down the street my check engine light came on and the vehicle was stalling in between 35-40 mph. So I got it check out and the code said that it was a transmission shift solenoid. I then took it to Chevy to make sure that, that was the issues and the dealership Penske Chevrolet confirmed that it was and that many of the Equinox’s, cruzes, and traverses from the year 2009 until 2019 Health exact same issue and that several people did the complaint form in their dealership I did research online and it’s true many people complain about this issue but I think they don’t know where to go to file a proper complaint. I think that this problem not being recalled is absurd because it’s costing people nearly 4, five, $6000 because of this issue when if many and I do mean many people are having this issue then chevy needs to fix this.

MY CAR BEGAN OVERCONSUMING OIL THE MOMENT I BOUGHT IT IN 2016. IT BROKE DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD NO OIL IT EVEN THOUGH I JUST HAD THE OIL REPLACED MERELY DAYS BEFORE. WE WERE IN ANOTHER STATE, SO I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND RENTED A RENTAL CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS. IT COST ME OVER $1,000 TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR AND ASSOCIATED RENTAL COSTS. ULTIMATELY, THE CAR WAS SUBJECT TO AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE HAD TO BE REBUILT. LAST YEAR, MY TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON A STREET. I HAD TO GET THAT REPLACED TOO. NOW GM IS REFUSING TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR UNDER THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE.

THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THE DEFECT IS MALFUNCTIONING PISTON RINGS, WHICH ARE PRONE TO PREMATURE WEAR, THE JUDGE'S ORDER STATES. THE DEFECT NECESSITATES THE NEED FOR THE CAR OWNER TO REPLENISH THE CAR'S OIL MORE FREQUENTLY. WHEN CALLING AROUND TO FIND REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSIONS, BECAUSE THE CAR IS SO SPECIFIC AND THERE ARE SO MANY TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL, THERE ARE ONLY 2 POSSIBLE TRANSMISSIONS IN AN ENTIRE SPAN OF 3 STATES. THIS IS MAKING IT ALSO NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE AS WELL AS AFFORDABLE.

THIS CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED, OIL CHANGES AND OTHER MAINTENANCE WERE DONE ON TIME. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND WHILE THE MECHANICS WERE TRYING TO MAKE IT START, IT WILL NOT START. THEY (MECHANICS) CALLED THE DEALER AND SOMEONE FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WAS COVERED UNDER MANUFACTURER WARRANTY SO I SHOULD TAKE THE CAR TO THEM FOR THEIR TECHNICIANS TO DO A TEST. AFTER THE TEST THEY SAID IT WAS A LOW ENGINE KNOCK AND I WILL HAVE TO GET ANOTHER ENGINE BY MYSELF BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER DOESN'T COVER IT. DON'T KNOW WHO TO BELIEVE NOW. I HAD DRIVEN IT 45 MILES AND STOPPED AT A GAS STATION, WHEN I WENT TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON ALL OF THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS CAME ON AS WELL AS THE 'STABILITRAK' LIGHT AND THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET IT TO MOVE WAS BY TURNING THE TRACTION OFF, AND WAS THANKFULLY ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME. I GOT IT INTO THE GM DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE STABILITY TRACK AND THE CRANKSHAFT NEEDED REPLACED. MY ABS LIGHT WAS STILL FAILING AND I'M TOTAL IT WAS ANOTHER $1,400 OF WORK. I FEEL THIS TRUCK SAVED MY LIFE. IN NEED OF A SAFE VEHICLE I FOUND MYSELF AT BOWMAN CHEVROLET PURCHASING A CERTIFIED 2010 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH LESS THAN 41000 MILES. AT THAT TIME I RECEIVED 24 MONTHS OF OIL CHANGES/ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PLUS ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND BUMPER TO BUMPER FOR 12MONTHS. THIS VEHICLE SEEMED GREAT TILL MY FIRST OIL CHANGE AND MAINTENANCE. IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE SERVICED. I APPARENTLY BOUGHT A CANADIAN VEHICLE. CALLED BOWMAN ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK TO THEM ( OVER AN HR FROM HOME) AT THIS TIME I MENTIONED A FEW THINGS I FELT WERE ISSUES (MY CAR WOULD RUN ON AFTER SHUT OFF, WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS IN DRIVE AND SHIFTING WOULD PAUSE BETWEEN GEARS). ABOUT A MONTH LATER I GOT MY CAR BACK, NEW DASHBOARD WITH A FEW SCRATCHES AND A GOOD CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD. WASN'T HAPPY BUT THEY SAID ALL WAS GOOD. UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I HAD TO TAKE IT IN, STILL HAVING RUN ONS WHEN I SHUT OFF THE CAR AND SHIFTING PROBLEMS ALONG WITH A FEW MINOR THINGS( I WAS TOLD WAS NOT COVERED BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN STILL UNDER WHAT I WAS PROMISED BY THE 12 MONTHS BUMPER TO BUMPER) OVER THE NEXT 21 MONTHS OF MY WARRANTIES I CONTINUED TO HAVE MANY ISSUES WITH MY CAR. NEVER FULLY FIXED EACH TIME I TOOK IT IN AND BEING TOLD MANY TIMES THEY WONT DO THE RECALLS BECAUSE ITS ON A CANADIAN CAR NOT MY NOW AMERICAN CAR. REGULAR DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND CITY ROADS IN FLORIDA. I CALLED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY DECLINED TO OFFER ANY COMPENSATION FOR THE TRANSMISSION STATING MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS WITH A LOT OF DISSATISFIED CONSUMERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS THAT HAS BEEN NEGLECTED BY CHEVY. IN MY OPINION THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE EXPERIENCED BY SO MANY CONSUMERS SHOULD WARRANT AN INVESTIGATION/RECALL BY NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY AUTHORITY.

THEY DIAGNOSED THE TRANS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $4700.00 I COULD NOT AFFORD THAT SO I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A LOCAL TRANS SHOP FOR REPAIRS. ENDS UP ITS A 6SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANS AND THE REPAIR SHOP HAD TO REPLACE THE 1/3/5 DRUM SOME KIND OF PLATE BROKE INSIDE THE HOUSING THE OWNER OF THE TRAN SHOP SAID IT A REAL PROBLEM GM HAD 2008/09/10 THEY HAVE AN UPDATED DRUM AND SNAP RING FOR REPAIRES. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY HOUSE AS THE CAR WAS BARELY ABLE TO MAINTAIN IT'S SPEED. THE NEXT MORNING I WAS CURIOUS IF I WAS ABLE GET THE CAR OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY OR IF IT COULD MOVE IN A FORWARD MOTION. THEY FIXED THE CONVERTER AND PUT A SPEED SENSOR IN MY TRANSMISSION BECAUSE MY CAR SIMPLY WOULDN'T MOVE. I PICKED UP MY CAR AFTER THEM HAVING IT FOR TWO WEEKS. THAT DAY I NOTICED IT WAS SHIFTING EXTREMELY HARD GOING FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR. I PURCHASED A NEW HUB AND A NEW WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND HAD THEM INSTALLED. WHILE LEAVING THE GARAGE THAT INSTALLED THESE NEW PARTS I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN IT TURNED GREEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDDLE AND MY CAR JUST SAT THERE AND REVVED. I TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT BACK TO THE GARAGE AND THERE IT SAT, REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING BUT REVV. SINCE THIS HAS STARTED I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOR THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL. WE WERE TOLD THESE PLATES WHEN THEY WERE HARDEN THEY WERE HARDEN TO HARD AND SO THEY SHATTER. THIS IS DEFIANTLY A GM ISSUE AND THEY SHOULD REPAIR THESE AT NO COST BUT THEY WON'T ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. THIS TRANSMISSION JUST HAPPENED ALL AT ONCE I PUT IT IN GEAR AND THERE IT WENT OUT. IF GM IS GOING TO BUILD A THROW AWAY CAR AT 50,000 MILES THEN THEY SHOULD SELL IT AS A THROW AWAY CAR. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS BUT THEY KEEP SOCKING THE CONSUMER FOR COSTLY REPAIRS BECAUSE ALL THEY CAN SAY IS IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOLD THE REP HAD THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION BEEN LISTED ON MY CHEVY PROFILE I WOULD HAVE HAD THE ISSUE FIXED THUS SAVING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. SHE STILL CLAIMED IT WAS SENT. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS NEED TO BE RECALLED WITHOUT EXCEPTION. HONDA REPLACED MY CRACKED MY ENGINE BLOCK NO QUESTIONS ASKED! THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING TWO MORE CODES CAME ON INCLUDING P0700 AND P182E (I HAVE ON OBD READER). AT THAT MOMENT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO GO INTO A NEUTRAL CONDITION. THIS OCCURED WHILE DRIVING @ 30 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET. AT THAT POINT I COULD REV THE ENGINE BUT THEIR WAS NO FORWARD DRIVE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT IN AN OFF CONDITION FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES, I WAS THE ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE HOME. I THEN BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS AS THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPONENTS WHICH COULD CAUSE THIS ERROR CODE. THE DEALER THEN CONCLUDED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD APPARENTLY STRETCHED AND WAS CAUSING THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR TO TRIP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WAS VERY EXTENSIVE AND OF COURSE COSTLY AS THE MOTOR HAS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE STRETCHED TIMING CHAIN. I STARTED RESEARCHING THE ERROR CODE ONLINE AND CAME ACROSS A SERVICE BULLETIN (SB-10052863-6133) PUBLISHED IN 2014 BY GENERAL MOTORS DETAILING A NEWER TIMING CHAIN KIT THAT WAS RELEASED TO ADDRESS THIS STRETCHING ISSUE. SEVERAL GENERAL MOTORS MODELS ARE INCLUDED IN THE BULLETIN AS THEY ALL UTILIZE THE SAME V6 3.0 LITER ENGINE AS WHAT IS IN MY EQUINOX. MY MAJOR GRIPE IS THAT THE CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAIN SOONER, BEFORE THE WARRANTY PERIOD EXPIRED. GENERAL MOTORS HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH TIMING CHAIN FAILURES IN THEIR 4 CYLINDER 2.4 LITER ENGINES AND AN OFFICIAL RECALL WAS DONE FOR THAT ENGINE. I FEEL THIS SAME CONDITION IS NOW STARTED TO AFFECT THE V6 3.0 LITER AS WELL.

THIS RESULTED IN ME BEING NEARLY REAR-ENDED AND I HAD TO QUICKLY GUIDE THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY REV IN GEAR AND NOT MOVE FORWARD. I SHIFTED THE VEHICLE TO PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE IT SEEMED AS IF IT HAD FUNCTION BACK. I PROCEEDED A FEW MILES FURTHER TO A PARKING LOT. AT THIS POINT, THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT FUNCTIONING WELL ENOUGH TO GO FURTHER. THIS IS WHEN WE CALLED A TOWING SERVICE, AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. ULTIMATELY, WE WERE TOLD THAT A PLATE HAD GONE OUT IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT THIS HAD ALSO DESTROYED SEVERAL OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE QUOTE FOR THESE REPAIRS WAS $4600.00. THIS HAPPENED AROUND 67,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND AFTER REPORTING TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES EARLY IN OWNERSHIP AND OVER MULTIPLE VISITS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING AN ODD SOUND COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION ON SHIFTS. WE REPORTED THESE ISSUES WAY BEFORE THE 100,000 MILES/5 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED. INSTEAD OF FINDING ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THAT IT COULD BE AN ENGINE PROBLEM AND TOLD US TO START COMING IN EVERY 1000 MILES FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I FEEL THAT THIS WAS A DELAY TACTIC TO MAKE SURE THAT CHEVROLET WOULD NOT HAVE TO COVER WARRANTY REPAIR OF THE TRANSMISSION. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT IT IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE, CONSIDERING THAT PRIOR MODELS OF THE CHEVROLET EQUINOX HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION PLATES AND THE CHANCE FOR A DEADLY ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF MOMENTUM IN TRAFFIC WITH NO WARNING.

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

2010 CHEVY EQUINOX TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I AM SURPRISE THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2010 EQUINOX AND GMC HAS NOT RESPONDED. I HAVE THE 2014 AND 2010 EQUINOX MODELS AND I BOUGHT BOTH NEW. I AM NOW WORRIED THAT I HAVE TOO MANY CARS MADE BY GM. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY 2010 EQUINOX FOR YEARS BUT NOTHING CLOSE TO THE CURRENT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. MY CURRENT MILEAGE IS 92,222. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT APPEARED MY CAR SKIDDED. I THEN CHANGED LANE TO BE SAFE. NEXT THING I KNOW, THE CAR RPM SOARED BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE. ESSENTIALLY, THE CAR ACTED AS IF IT WAS ON NEUTRAL WHEN ON DRIVE. I THEN TURNED OF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT AND THE CAR DROVE ABOUT 2 POLES BUT WOULD NOT FURTHER ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS STRANDED WITH MY 8 YEAR OLD SON BY THE HIGHWAY SHOULDER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. SEVERAL HOURS LATER, I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE WAVE PLATE IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS BROKE AND THAT I HAD TO WAIT SEVERAL DAYS TO KNOW WHAT OTHER DAMAGE RESULTED. WITH THE SAME CAR, I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE BEARINGS AND FREQUENT AIRBAG PROBLEMS. THE CAR DOES NOT RIDE WELL LIKE THE 2014 MODEL. FOR SOME MONTHS NOW, THERE HAS BEEN AN ANNOYING LOW RPM NOISE AT LOW SPEED THAT THE TECH COULD NOT DIAGNOSE. I AM NOW WONDERING IF IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION FAILING ALL ALONG. THE SAME ANNOYING SOUND IS NOW OCCURRING IN THE 2014 EQUINOX. IT BEGS THE QUESTION OF WHETHER THERE IS A PERVASIVE QUALITY PROBLEM WITH GM VEHICLES. WHILE DRIVING ON AN ARTERIAL CITY STREET APPROX 50MPH THE VEHICLE LUNGED UNEXPECTEDLY WITH A HARD KNOCK SOUND. AFTER SLOWING AT THE LIGHT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ON NORMALLY. THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN REVERSE, TO BACK OUT OF THE GARAGE, NOTHING HAPPENED AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED STILL NOTHING HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT BACK INTO PARK AND THEN BACK INTO REVERSE AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED NORMALLY. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN LATER THE SAME DAY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALER AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM. A TECHNICIAN WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT IT WAS PROBABLY THE WAVE PLATE CRACKING IN THE TRANSMISSION. HE STATES THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR AND WHEN IT FULLY BREAKS IT CAN DO ALOT OF DAMAGE. LATER IN THE MORNING THE SERVICE REP CALLED AND STATED THE WAVE PLATE SHOULD BE REPLACED AND THAT IT WOULD COST $3600. I LOOKED THIS ISSUE UP ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND THEIR ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS RELATED TO THIS VERY PART WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION, MANY WITH SCARY STORIES OF WHAT HAPPENED. CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE STATES THAT THERE WAS A NOTICE PUT OUT FOR MODEL YEARS 2007-2009 BUT NOTHING AFTER THAT FOR THE EXACT SAME SAFETY ISSUE. THIS HAS BECOME A TREND AND THE WAVE PLATE/TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THE 2010 CHEVY EQUINOX NEED TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE DEALER BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ITEM SO THAT THE CUSTOMER IS SAFE AND NOT STUCK WITH A $4000 REPAIR FOR SOMETHING THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAS IDENTIFIED AS AN ISSUE ON THE EXACT SAME MODEL BUT OLDER MODEL YEARS. THE SENIOR ADVISOR FOR GM THAT I SPOKE WITH STATED THE TRANSMISSION SHOULDN'T HAVE FAILED, BUT THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FOR FREE SINCE THERE WAS NO OPEN RECALL YET FOR THE TRANSMISSION. I RESEARCHED GOOGLE AND FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM VEHICLE OWNERS OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL REGARDING THEIR TRANSMISSION FAILING ALSO. I THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE 2008 AND 2009 MODELS HAD THE EXACT SAME TRANSMISSION AS OUR 2010 MODEL. I READ THAT GM HAD ISSUED A RECALL AND EXTENDED A WARRANTY IN MARCH 2015 FOR THE 2008 AND 2009 MODELS DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. FORWARD MONDAY AFTERWORK, AT STOP SIGN AND STARTED TO PULL OUT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. NO REVERSE EITHER, COASTED DOWN THE HILL TO SIDE STREET AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND AFTER SETTING A FEW MINUTES IT WENT INTO GEAR, BUT ONLY LASTED A SHORT WHILE AND WAS STRANDED AGAIN. HAD TO CALL FOR A TOW AND USED TRANCO TRANSMISSION. THEY CALLED AND SAID THE WAVE PLATE HAD BROKE WHICH HAD CAUSED MORE DAMAGE AND WOULD COST $3400. THE REPAIRMAN SAID THIS HAS HAPPENED IN A LOT OF THESE MOTORS, SO I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THAT AT THIS TIME THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS. BUT IF THEY DO I CAN SUBMIT MY RECEIPT. I'M HOPING THAT IF ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BAD SITUATION, BECAUSE I HAD MY GRANDSON IN THE CAR AND WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN HIT TRYING TO PULL OUT AT THE STOP SIGN AND NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T CHANGE GEARS. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW. 100000 MILES OUT OF A TRANSMISSION ON A CAR GENTLY DRIVEN UNUSUAL. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER I EXITED THE FREEWAY, SITTING AT A STOP SIGN. I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND BARELY GOT ANY POWER. SEVERAL NOISES LIKE SOMETHING SNAPPING OR BREAKING AND LIQUID SPRAYING OCCURED. WITH ALMOST NOW ACCELERATION I MADE IT TO A PARKING LOT WHERE I SHUT THE CAR OFF. REVERSE, TO MY SURPRISE, NO LONGER WORKED WHEN TRYING TO STRAIGHTEN UP THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT.

I JUST REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN NOV OF 2014 AT A COST TO ME OF $800. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WOULD BE $1500 TO FIX, SO I HAD IT FIXED AT ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP. THEN I FIND OUT WHILE BROWSING AROUND MY ONSTAR ACCOUNT THAT THERE ARE 2 EXTENDED WARRANTIES FOR THE TIMING CHAIN. WHY DIDN'T THE DEALER KNOW THAT? NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT AGAIN BECAUSE I'M 188 MILES PAST THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I CALLED A REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP TO GET A QUOTE FOR THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY REPAIRED 2 OF THE SAME VEHICLE LAST WEEK AND CANNOT GET A GM TRANSMISSION DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER BECAUSE GM KNOWS THEY ARE FAULTY. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. GM SHOULD HAVE TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER GM VEHICLE.

I DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER 2000 MILES AND HAD TO ADD OIL UP TO 4 QUARTS EVERY 500 MILES...I TOOK IT IN ONCE AGAIN IN REGARDS TO THE OIL CONSUMPTION AND THEY PERFORMED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH THE VEHICLE FAILED MISERABLY. AROUND MAR 18 2014, WE WERE GOING UP A HILL GOING ROUGHLY 50MPH ALL OF A SUDDEN, THERE WAS AN EXTERNAL ELECTRICAL NOISE, AND SECONDS AFTER, THE CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO GEAR. AFTER GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR, AND WAS IN LIMP MODE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THE DAY AFTER AND WAS TOLD THE 3-5-REVERSE WAVE PLATE OR ALSO COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS CLUTCH PLATE SHATTERED AND THE PIECES GOT INTO THE GEARS AND TORN UP ALL THE GEARS WITH IT. THE CAR WAS STILL JUST RIGHT UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY SO THE DEALER REPLACED THE WAVE PLATE AND THE BROKEN GEARS. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. GM CLAIMED THEY "SUPPOSEDLY" IMPROVED THIS OLD PROBLEM POST 2009 MODELS, HOWEVER, COUNTLESS 2010+ CHEVY EQUINOXES, TRAVERSE, AND GMC TERRAIN, AND ACADIA ARE STILL ENCOUNTERING FAILING TRANSMISSION BECAUSE OF THIS VERY SPECIFIC 3-5-REVERSE WAVE PLATE ISSUE. JUST GOOGLE FOR "CHEVY EQUINOX TRANSMISSION WAVE PLATE", OR "GM 3 5 REVERSE WAVE PLATE" YOU'LL SEE COUNTLESS GMC, CHEVY 2010+ OWNERS STILL ENCOUNTERING PRE-MATURE TRANSMISSION FAILURES DUE TO THIS VERY EXACT ISSUE. WAS TOWED 70 MILES TO A DEALERSHIP WHO REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN, TENSIONER AND FUEL PUMP. THIS DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO LOW OIL LEVEL AS WELL AS DIRTY OIL. I INCURRED AN UNEXPECTED $1200 BILL AND WAS WITHOUT MY CAR FOR A WEEK. MY HOME DEALERSHIP REPLACED MY ENGINE 2 WEEKS AGO AND I RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR BILL. WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY IS VERY RELEVANT. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID A NEW NEW SERVICE BULLETIN WAS JUST ISSUED FOR THE PROBLEM BUT HAD NO FIXES ONLY TO SAY THAT IT WAS WITHIN NORMAL RANGE. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER IT APPEARS THAT THE SHIFTNG POINTS VARY ACCORDING TO DRIVING HABITS AND THIS CHANGES WITH TIME AS THE COMPUTER "LEARNS" YOUR DRIVEN HABITS AND ADJUSTS. THE DEALER RECOMMEND THAT I COME IN EVERY FEW WEEKS AND THEY WOULD RESET THE CODES AND THIS WOULD HELP THE ISSUE BUT NO FIX SINCE THE COMPUTER WOULD AGAIN ADJUST SHIFT POINTS. ANOTHER OPTION WAS TO TRADE UP TO A 6 CYL MODEL ( PLUS $10K) WHICH DOES NOT EXHIBIT THE PROBLEM. REPLACED OIL LIKE BEFORE, NO DEBRIS. SERVICE BULLETIN FOR ECM UPDATE FOR TCM AND PCM. SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD SEVERAL OTHER BUYERS EXPERIENCING THESE PROBLEMS. #3) 12/22/09-2,939 MILES: UNABLE TO MERGE ONTO THRUWAY AND GET UP TO SPEED DO TO BUCKING AND VEHICLE NOT ACCELERATING/SHIFTING. ALMOST INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT TRYING TO MERGE AND GAIN SPEED. BUCKING AT STOPS AND STALLING. SERVICE CODE P0011 FOUND IN COMPUTER FOR INTAKE POSITION SYSTEM FAILURE. NEEDED 2 CAM SHAFT ACTUATORS AGAIN. REPLACED OIL & FILTER. 01/08/10-~3,900MILES: CONTINUED ROUGH IDLE. POOR/HARD SHIFTING/HESITATION TO SHIFT ESPECIALLY IN 3 & 4 GEAR. IN 3 & 4 ENGINE SOUNDS MUFFLED AND STRUGGLES TO GAIN SPEED AS IF THE TRAN IS UP-SHIFTING TOO QUICKLY. WHEN UP-SHIFTING IN HIGHER GEARS IT HESITATES AND THEN JOLTS.
