2012 Chevrolet equinox burns/leaks oil which cause the serpentine belt to pop off & I had to replace it. Having problems with the MAT & IAT codes, just replaced the fuel pump, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, & spark plugs... Car still will not crank. They're saying there's no recall but why are all the Chevrolet equinox malfunctioning with the same problems with no help from the manufacturer?

In addition, there was an excessive consumption of oil causing the contact to add engine oil frequently. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced but no further diagnosis was available for the other failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

Chevy sold the Equinox knowing full well that it had engine problems. The oil system fails, using oil at an excessive rate and oil dumping from engine. They were aware that around 80,000 miles the car would need over $4000 in repairs. They also knew the timing chain gets off timing causing over $2000 in repairs. Both of which happened to my vehicle within 6 months. The Engine ceased up and was undrivable. It sat in our driveway for over 18 months while we paid off the loan.

The contact’s friend owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact who is an independent mechanic stated that his friend had taken the vehicle to be repaired after the key became stuck in the ignition. The contact diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the key cylinder lock housing had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V502000 (Electrical System, Power Train) however, an undisclosed dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

My 2012 chevy equinox lt had had nothing but issues with the timing chain the oil consumption where it hardly wants to start I have only had this used vehicle for 6 months or less I shouldn’t be having all these problems with it! The tailpipe isn’t smoking out white clouds but when you put your hand over it it leaves black oil gas smelling grunge on your hand! This is the second equinox I have owed in less than 1 year and it should not be costing me a fortune in repairs within a year even though it’s used makes no sense to me why chevy allows this to happen!!!

I bought my 2012 chevy equinox Lt 2.4L because I owed one just like it but a deer totaled it at only 10 mph! It been nothing but issues since I purchased it drove it off the lot the check engine light comes on and then I go to get it checked and it states that I have a permanent catylic converter code that no one can fix except gmc! When I idle at a stop for longer than 1 min it starts stuttering and jerking like it’s gonna die! So I clean my throttle body like the mechanic said I should do and I found this dark brown whitish sludge in my pvc tube that runs up into the air box which now my air box is full of this gunk! I have to put oil into this vehicle every 3 days cause it will be full then three days later it’s just a smidge above out on the dipstick! I am poor I can not afford huge repairs or replacement of yet another vehicle 🚗! GMC needs held accountable since they seem to know about this and it’s not recalled they need to do better in taking care of us poor customers who just want a reliable vehicle!! So VERY upset yet again!!!

the camshaft actuators continue creating difficultdriving conditions. The POO11 and POO13 Codes continually show Faulty even after replacement. the Vehicle {2012 Chevrolet Equinox} Lurches and Bucks,creating difficulty for the safe operations of this vehicle. This creates Adverse reactions from other motorists by just acting up ,even after repairs. This is my 3rd time replacing these components to no avail. Gauges- oil light does not turn on, when the vehicle is low in motor oil. Which causes internal engine failure, which include, but not limited: timing belts to piston wear. Vehicle was in highway speed and lost vehicle power, which caused safety issues for my vehicle and vehicles behind me. Vehicle also has braking and transmission issues; at full stop on a hill and putting the transmission in "N"eutral the vehicle rolls forward, even when the brakes are fully applied or putting the vehicle back in park.

Car kept stalling when slowing down on the highway in traffic on beltway from Maryland to home in Virginia. Very dangerous situation. Car was also sluggish when accelerating. Had to drive with two feet one on brake and gas pedal when slowing down to avoid car shutting off completely on the road. Dropped car off at dealer this evening. I checked and did not see any recalls. Can’t locate safety bulletins from Chevy as they are not published. Dealer said would look for any bulletins. Engine light is on. I read others with models from 2011 to 2015 having same issues for Chevy equinox.

THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER SENSOR CAME ON AND SHUT DOWN. IT WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE DUE TO LACK OF OIL DUE TO BENT PISTON RINGS AND THE OIL ESCAPING. ALL OF THAT WAS REPAIRED AND MAYBE 6 MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND IT WAS DECIDED THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE TO THE ENGINE BASED ON THE PREVIOUS OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. THE ENGINE WAS THEN REPLACED AS WELL AS THE ECM BOARD DUE TO OIL BEING ALL OVER IT COMPLETELY RUINING THE SENSORS. WE ALSO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE EVAP SYSTEM DUE LACK OF OXYGEN AND THE CAR CONSTANTLY CHOCKING OUT WHILE IN MOTION AND WHILE IDELING. WE FILED OUR CLAIM WHEN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT CAME OUT AND OF COURSE WE'RE DENIED, JUST LIKE THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE DUE TO THERE BEING 'LACK OF PROOF' THAT IT WAS DUE TO LACK OF OIL. I WAS CONSTANTLY CHECKING MY OIL, GETTING IT CHANGED, ADDING THE RIGHT OIL WHEN IT WAS LOW AND BECAUSE I DID NOT DO THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THROUGH GM WE ARE OUT ALMOST 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A CAR THAT STILL HAD ISSUES DUE TO THE LACK OF OIL. THE FIRST TIME IT BROKE DOWN I HAD A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE AND THEY DID AN INVESTIGATION TO MAKE SURE IT WAS DUE TO A LACK OF OIL CHANGES AND BUILD UP OF DIRTY OIL, IT WAS PROVED THAT THE OIL ESCAPED THROUGH THE BENT PISTON RINGS AND BURNT OFF INSTEAD OF GOING BACK INTO THE ENGINE. THEY DID COVER THE TIMING CHAIN BUT ONCE THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WE NO LONGER HAD THE WARRANTY. I'M NOT SURE WHY THAT INVESTIGATION WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE SETTLEMENT TO GO THROUGH BUT REGARDLESS THESE VEHICLES ARE SO UNSAFE AND MONEY PITS AND ARE STILL BEING SOLD TO INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE GETTING THEMSELVES INTO. A RECALL ABSOLUTELY SHOULD BE MADE.

SUPPOSEDLY THE DEALER FIXED THE ISSUE, NOT SURE IF THAT WAS TRUE BECAUSE IT CONTINUED AS TIME WENT ON. SECONDLY I HAVE HAD SO MANY OIL CHANGES SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE AND THERE IS RECORD OF IT: 3/2019,05/2019,07/2019,(JOHNNY LONDOFF CHEVROLET UP UNTIL 05/2020),05/2020,10/2020,11/2020,02/2021... AND COUNTING. THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION AND IS BRINGING ABOUT MORE ISSUES WITHIN THE VEHICLE. LASTLY BUT NOT LEAST THE SENSORS AND OTHER THINGS ARE BEING DAMAGED IN THE PROCESS. 2012 EQUINOX HAS BEEN USING MORE OIL THAN IT SHOULD. TOOK IT IN FOR A RECALL THIS WEEK, CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, REPLACED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER WHEN I SLOWED DOWN OR TRIED TO ACCELERATE. TOOK IT BACK IN, SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID I MY TIMING CHAINS ARE STRETCHED, THE CHAINS, GUIDES AND ACTUATORS NEED TO BE REPLACED ASAP BEFORE MY ENGINE STOPS FOR GOOD. SERVICE PERSON STATED THEY CONTACTED GM AND THEY WILL NOT HELP WITH THE COST TO FIX IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN APRIL 2019, IT HAS 89,441 MILES ON IT.

MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS NO/VERY LITTLE OIL WHEN I TOOK TO HIM TO CHECK WHAT WAS CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN RUFF AND SOUND RUFF. HE SAID PARTS WERE CAKED WITH OIL. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT THE RON WESTPHAL CHEVROLET A SALESMAN NAMED ROBERT ITHIER HAD SOLD US THE VEHICLE INTRODUCING US TO THE FORMER OWNER, WE LOOKED THE VEHICLE OVER AND HAD ONE OF OUR MECHANICS CHECK THE VEHICLE AND IT SEEMED FINE. NOW THAT CHEVROLET IS NOT HELPING FIX THIS PROBLEM WE FOUND OUT BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE CODES WERE CLEARED AND AN ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET JUST BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) HAS FAILED. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT INTO EITHER "R" OR "D" THE VEHICLE LURCHES, AND THE "R" OR "D" FLASHES. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE VEHICLE IS NOT OPERABLE. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR - THE VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD. THIS CONDITION WILL ALSO OCCUR DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. REGARDLESS OF TRAVEL SPEED AT THE TIME, THE VEHICLE WILL SLAM INTO A LOW GEAR. THIS CREATES A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY RISK. ON A WET, SNOWY, OR ICY ROAD IT WOULD SURELY CAUSE THE OPERATOR TO LOOSE CONTROL AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 38,000 MILES. SINCE APRIL 2018 I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE WHEN COMING TO A SLOW STOP. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE ISSUE HAD TO DO WITH MY BRAKES. I HAD MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON IN DECEMBER 2018 SO I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE HUBER CHEVROLET IN OMAHA FOR AN OIL CHANGE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT DUE YET FOR ANOTHER 3 WEEKS. I WAS NEVER TOLD DURING THIS VISIT THAT MY OIL WAS LOW. ON MARCH 7TH, 2019 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN SO I TOOK IT IN AGAIN THE SAME DAY EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE FOR ANOTHER 1000 MILES. I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS 3 QTS LOW ON OIL. I WAS ALSO TOLD OF THIS "SPECIAL POLICY". I WAS ASKED TO BRING MY VEHICLE BACK IN AFTER 500 TO 700 MILES TO HAVE THE OIL CONSUMPTION TESTED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE AUTO MECHANIC AND STORED CODES SUGGESTED REPLACING O2 SENSORS, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND A TUNE-UP WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE; I REPLACED ALL OF THE ABOVE TO THE TUNE OF 1400.00; THE ISSUE OF ROUGH IDLING, STALL & LOSING POWER, GOING DEAD AT THE LIGHT/ SITTING IN TRAFFIC HAS NOT RESOLVED. THE 2012 EQUINOX IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE; IT JUST KEEPS STALLING AND GOING DEAD/LOSING POWER WHILE IN DRIVE. I HAVE SPENT ALMOST 1400.00 TRYING TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THIS ISSUE SINCE DECEMBER 1. APPARENTLY THIS ISSUE WAS NOT FIXED OR ADDRESSED IN SUBSEQUENT MODELS AS I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE A SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL ALTHOUGH MY CAR A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY 1,000'S OF DOLLARS DIAGNOSING AND FIXING KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECTS. SUBSEQUENT VEHICLES MADE AFTER THE ISSUE WAS FOUND IN TH 2011 SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED OR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER SERVICE BULLETINS & RECALLS ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CAR IDLES ROUGH WHEN STARTING, LOSES POWER AND CUTS OFF WHILE IN DRIVE WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN STOP & GO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC OR AT STREET RED LIGHTS- THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND CAN RESULT IN AN UNNECESSARY ACCIDENT OR EVEN GOD FORBID A FATALITY.

I HAD THE OIL CONSUMPTION SERVICES COMPLETED LAST OCTOBER 2017 AND THIS YEAR IN OCTOBER 2018 I HAD TO HAVE THE CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE REPLACED TO WHICH EVERYONE I KNOW WITH AN EQUINOX THAT IS OLDER THAN 2016 IS HAVING TO HAVE THIS PART REPLACED ON THEIR VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT WITH SUCH A DRASTIC AMOUNT OF VEHICLES HAVING THIS FIXED IF IT WASNT APART OF THE OIL CONSUMPTION PARTS TO HAVE REPLACED IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BECAUSE IT REALLY APPEARS TO BE A LARGELY REPLACED ITEM COSTING PEOPLE OVER $200 TO HAVE FIXED. THIS PART CAUSES YOUR VEHICLE WHEN AT LOWER SPEEDS TO STALL OUT OVER AND OVER UNTIL IT JUST WONT GO. IT STARTED WITH A ROUGH IDLE. THEN WHEN ACCELERATING AT LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL OUT. FINALLY IT WOULD STALL WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS.

MY EQUINOX BEGAN "BUCKING" ONE EVENING ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. I HAVE CHANGED THE OIL REGULARLY (EVERY 5000 MILES) AND WAS UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL HAVING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC- HE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS ACTUALLY OIL IN THE TAILPIPE AND THAT THESE VEHICLES WERE KNOWN FOR HAVING OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. I ARRANGED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALER- I DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE IT AS IT WAS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN WITH THE ENGINE BUCKING AND POSSIBLY STALLING IN TRAFFIC. THE CHEVROLET DEALER HAD IT FOR THE WHOLE WEEK AND EVENTUALLY TOLD ME IT HAD "JUMPED TIMING". JOE THE SERVICE MANAGER AT CENTRAL CHEVROLET IN WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEE IF THERE WAS FURTHER DAMAGE - IE TO THE VALVES. SO THE NEXT CALL I GET IS FROM THE WARRANTY ADMINISTRATOR AT THE DEALER- SHE TELLS ME I NEED A NEW ENGINE AND THAT CHEVROLET WILL COVER 30% OF THE REPLACEMENT - WOULD I LIKE TO HAVE IT DONE? I ASK HER- WELL YOU TELL ME THEY WILL COVER 30% BUT 30% OF WHAT? SHE SAID THAT MY SHARE WOULD BE $ 5100. THIS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE- A VEHICLE WITH 48,000 MILES AND THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT SOUNDS LIKE CHEVROLET KNEW OF THE ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE AS EVIDENT BY THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND CLASS ACTION ONLINE. HAD THEY NOTIFIED OWNERS APPROPRIATELY AND HAD THE APPROPRIATE WARNING SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLES THEN THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS PEOPLE USE THESE VEHICLES TO TRANSPORT FAMILY MEMBERS TO SCHOOL, WORK, ETC. IF THESE VEHICLES RUN THIS WAY AND EVEN STALL IN TRAFFIC THEN THERE IS HUGE POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH. I HAVE TRIED TO SPEAK WITH GENERAL MOTORS DIRECTLY, BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED WITH ACCEPTABLE REMEDY. MY 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO OIL WARNING, NOTHING. THE VEHICLE JUST DIED, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WOULDN'T RESTART. IT HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT. I HEARD A KNOCKING/RATTLING FROM THE ENGINE IN SEPT., CHECKED THE OIL & IT WAS BONE DRY! ACCORDING TO LETTER 16118 FROM GM, I WAS TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP IF THIS HAPPENED. I DID, AND STARTED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. GOT OIL TESTED 2 TIMES, ONCE IT WAS FINE, THE NEXT TIME IT WAS LOW. THE 3RD TIME I GOT IT CHECKED WAS WHEN IT WAS TOWED IN FROM MY EXPERIENCE LISTED ABOVE. I WAS A QUART LOW. NOW I HAVE A BLOWN-UP ENGINE AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO PAY $750.00 FOR THEM TO TAKE APART THE ENGINE TO FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE. I'M ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THIS ENTIRE SITUATION. MY 2012 EQUINOX BEGAN BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL. I HAD TO ADD OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AS UNDER THE GM CUSTOMER SATISFACTION #12312A WHICH INITIALLY ONLY COVERED THE 2010 TO 2011 EQUINOX. THIS SAME ISSUE IS ALSO COVERED UNDER TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #13-06-01-003H. BASED ON THIS ISSUE, MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET STARTED SO SPUTTER WHILE DRIVING AND FINALLY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET A DEALERSHIP APPOINTMENT AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE COMPLETE AUTO CARE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE LOW OIL LIKELY CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO JUMP AND RECOMMEND I SHOULD SEE THE DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AS THIS WAS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAS 85K MILES AND THE WARRANTY RAN OUT 5 MONTHS AGO. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE TIMING CHAIN AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $1,600.00. SIMILAR ISSUE TO THE 2010 AND 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX WHICH IS BEING REPLACED. WAS ALSO TOLD THE OIL CONSUMPTION WOULD HAVE TO BE PERFORMED AFTER THE TIMING CHAIN FIX AND WOULD ALSO BE AT MY EXPENSE. THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT ISSUES FOR THIS VEHICLE AND GM IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED FOR THE 2010 AND 2011 VEHICLES AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BUT THE ISSUE IS ALSO AFFECTING THE 2012 AND 2013 AS GM HAS ISSUED SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THEM BUT ARE NOT FIXING A KNOWN ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS TO CUSTOMERS DRIVING AS THE CAR CAN COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE FOR VEHICLE OWNERS AND AN EXPENSIVE ONE FOR CUSTOMERS FROM WHICH GM IS AVOIDING TAKING RESPONSIBILITY.

BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AT 40K MILES IN 2013. SINCE OWNING IT OCCASIONALLY HAD A ROUGH IDLE WHEN INCLINED ON THE OFF-RAMP OF A HIGHWAY. IT WAS A CROSS BETWEEN AND SLIGHT SHUTTER AND A JERK FORWARD LIKE THE HILL ASSIST FEATURE DIDN'T WANT TO HOLD TRUE. AS THE VEHICLE GOT CLOSER TO 100K MILES THE IDLE WAS BECOMING MORE PRONOUNCED AND STARTED SPUTTERING IN DRIVE-THRUS AND STOP SIGNS UNTIL ONE DAY IT SHUT OFF. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE HAD ISSUES BACKING UP WITHOUT SHUTTING OFF. TOOK INTO A MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS VERY LOW ON OIL (EVEN THOUGH I WAS STILL IN MY WINDOW) AND SOME SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WERE VERY EXPENSIVE. VEHICLE WAS OK FOR A FEW WEEKS AND NOW IT IS STARTING THE SAME ACTIVITY AGAIN. UNTIL I CAN TAKE IT AGAIN TO GET CHECKED OUT I HAVE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE AT STOP SIGNS AND OFF-RAMPS.

THE CAR WAS STILL, AND MY KEYS WERE STILL IN THE IGNITION. WHILE I WAS BETWEEN THE DOOR AND THE CAR, THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS, WHICH KNOCKED ME TO MY FEET AND UNDER THE CAR. THE CAR ROLLED UP ONTO MY RIBCAGE AND MY VISION STARTED TO GO DARK. A NEARBY PERSON MANAGED TO ROLL THE CAR OFF OF ME. THE DEALER ISSUED ME A PAPER EXPLAINING THE CONDITION WAS NORMAL, BUT NOT ADDRESSING WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING. THE PAPER PIP4112Q STATES A HESITATION OR SAG WHEN ACCELERATING OR AGGRESSIVELY ACCELERATING, NONE OF WHICH HAS HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE. THE EXPERIENCE IS REPEATED WHEN SLOWLY ACCELERATING PAST 16 TO 18 MILES AN HOUR AND THEN RELEASING FROM THE ACCELERATOR, AFTER RE-ACCELERATING AT A REASONABLE SPEED THE TRANSMISSION HAS A FORCEFUL, HARD SHIFT AT AROUND 14 MILES AN HOUR. WHILE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE 71 THE TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY SHIFTED AND BOTH PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLE THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE DRIVES THE VEHICLE AND I FEAR FOR HER SAFETY AS THIS SITUATION IS VERY FRIGHTENING. I CONTACTED THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND THEY ADMITTED THIS OCCURRED TO THEM MANY TIMES AND 'SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF THEM'. THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND CREATES A MAJOR DISTRACTION THAT COULD RESULT IN A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. REPLACED LOOSE TIMING AND BALANCE SHAFT CHAIN, WATER PUMP, COOLANT FLUSH ( I PAID FOR) ABS LIGHT CAME ON, SO SENSOR WAS FOUND TO BE "OPEN" ALSO FOUND CHUNK OF MAGNET MISSING FROM WHEEL BEARING. CAR IN SHOP FOR 9 DAYS. PICKED UP ON 1-28-16. STALLED AGAIN 4 X ON 2-4-16. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR REPLACED. STALLED AGAIN 2-7-16 AND 2-8-16. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP ON 2-8-16. NO WORD FROM THEM YET. THE CAR HAS LEFT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION TURNING LEFT TWICE!! I COULD BE KILLED BY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND 1000'S OF PEOPLE DEALING WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. SEVERAL HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE STALL WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY!! THE ISSUES EXISTS ON 2010, 2011 AND 2012 MODELS. GM NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO FIX. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE GM WILL DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE?? I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20 MILES PER HOUR WHEN ALL THE GAUGES ON THE DASH BOARD WENT CRAZY. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR THEN APPEARED ON THE DASH BOARD. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN I WENT TO STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR, I HAD NO POWER. THE ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MILES AND HOUR. ALL THE ABOVE WAS STILL HAPPENING ON THE DASHBOARD. THE AC WAS NOW BLOWING WARM AIR. IT SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES. IN THE END THE SPEEDOMETER WASN'T WORKING. I REACHED SOMEWHERE SAFE AND PARKED THE CAR. I WENT TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO DRIVE AND THERE WAS A HARD LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. THIS ONLY HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE CAR TO AUTO ZONE WHERE THEY PRINTED OUT THE CODES APPEARING FOR THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR. ( P069E, P0700, U0073, U0100) THE BATTERY IN THE CAR HAS ALSO BEEN REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE TWICE. IT HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE DUE TO NOT STARTING THE NEXT DAY AFTER IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN THE DAY BEFORE AND WORKING NORMAL. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THEY UNDERSTOOD WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THAT EVENING THEY CALLED US BACK SAYING, " WE CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO EVERYTHING IS FINE." WE LOST OUR MIND AND TOLD THEM TO KEEP THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BECUASE THE CAR ISN'T THREE YEARS OLD AND SHOULDN'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. FURTHER, THE CAR ISN'T SAFE!! WE READ BLOGS WHERE THIS IS COMMON WITH THE EQUINOX AND INDICATED THAT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP.

THIS VEHICLE EXHIBITS THE EXACT SAME ISSUES NOTED IN BULLETIN #12313B, WHICH AFFECTS THE 2010 AND 2011 2.4L EQUINOX. OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS THE ENGINE BECAME INCREASINGLY LOUDER. A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL WAS DISCOVERED IN THE CRANKCASE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN ASSEMBLY AND THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AS OUTLINED IN BULLETIN #12313B, BUT THE 2012 MODEL YEAR IS NOT INCLUDED UNDER THE SPECIAL COVERAGE OF 10 YEARS, 120K MILES, AS OUTLINED IN THE BULLETIN. THIS SPECIAL COVERAGE SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO LATER MODEL CHEVROLET EQUINOX 2.4L ENGINES. THE COVERAGE IS A NECESSITY DUE TO THE WEAR THAT HAS OCCURRED FROM FUEL BEING IN THE OIL.

HI, MY 2012 EQUINOX STALLED ON ME WHILE I WAS IN REVERSE. I WAS BACKING OUT A DRIVE WAY AND IT STARTED TO JERK. AFTER JERKING IT DID EVENTUALLY GO IN GEAR. ONCE I PUT IT IN DRIVE I DROVE NO LESS THEN A MILE AND THE CAR CUT OFF. I TURN IT BACK ON AND PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AND IT STALLED OUT AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING DOWN I-96 IN MICHIGAN AT MILE 62, I FELT AN EXPLOSION UNDER MY FEET. THERE WAS A LARGE CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE FOLLOWED BY FLAMES UNDERNEATH AND OUT THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RAN TO SAFETY WHILE WATCHING THE VEHICLE BURN UNDERNEATH. THE AIR DRAFT FROM PASSING TRAFFIC EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. QUALIFIED TECHNICIANS AT OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER HAVE TOLD US THERE IS A GOLF-BALL SIZE HOLE AND A SOFTBALL SIZE HOLE IN THE ENGINE IN ADDITION TO NUMEROUS ISSUES RESULTING FROM THE FIRE (MELTED FUEL AND BRAKE LINES, CHARRED AND BUBBLED PAINT AND MELTED PLASTIC PARTS, ETC.) WHILE DRIVING I SLOWED DOWN TO STOP FOR LIGHT , LIGHT CHANGED SO I ACCELERATED WHEN I STEP ON GAS VEHICLE HESITATED AND LURCHED FORWARD WITH AN IMPACT SIMILAR TO BEING REAR ENDED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION THE VEHICLE WAS AT A DEAD STOP AND WHEN I STEPPED ON GAS PEDDLE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE IMMEDIATELY . THIS HAS BEEN AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM GOING ON FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND 30000 MILES. EVERY TIME I TOOK IT IN FOR MAINTENANCE I WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT PROBLEM TO NO HELP FROM DEALER THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT PROBLEM THEY SENT ME TO SELLING DEALER WHO KEPT IT FOR ONE AND A HALF DAYS AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE .THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME HIS WIFE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY ARE TRADING THERE VEHICLE IN ON THE SAME VEHICLE WITH A 6 CYLINDER. THE SERVICE WRITER WHO WROTE UP MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM IN A DIFFERENT MODEL BUT HE JUST LIVES WITH IT. 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *SMD A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS SLUGGISH, AS THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY. THE NEXT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED ON JANUARY 2, 2013. THE CONSUMER STATED BEFORE SHE COULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON ITS OWN, AS IF SHE HIT A STONE WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL, WHEN SLOWING DOWN. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END. THE DEALER CALLED THE CONSUMER TO LET HER KNOW, THEY ORDERED SOME BOLTS, SO THEY COULD BE BOLTED TO THE FRAME. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET, THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, BECAUSE OF A GRINDING/GRATING NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. UPON ACCELERATION, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION UPSHIFTS INTO 2ND GEAR IT WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE WILL REV UP BUT THE VEHICLE JUST COASTS. IF YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS IT WILL EVENTUALLY SLAM INTO GEAR AND WILL RESUME DRIVING BUT HAS ERRATIC AND HARD GEAR CHANGES AND MAY ALSO GO BACK INTO NEUTRAL AGAIN. THIS WILL LAST FOR THE ENTIRE DRIVE CYCLE UNLESS YOU PULL OVER AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE WHICH RESETS THE SYSTEM. IT DOES NOT TURN ON THE CEL LIGHT OR STORE ANY FAILURE CODES OR INFORMATION. IT IS A INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH NO SET PATTERN. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU ARE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC OR ATTEMPTING TO MERGE OR PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. I TRADED IN A 2011 EQUINOX WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOR THIS 2012 EQUINOX WHEN THE DEALER COULD NOT CORRECT IT. AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, I THEN APPLIED THE GAS TO GO AROUND A CORNER. UPON APPLYING THE GAS, THE ENGINE REVVED UP MUCH FASTER THAN IT WOULD NORMALLY. I QUICKLY APPLIED THE BRAKES, AND STOPPED FORWARD MOVEMENT. HOWEVER,THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO "REV". I PUT THE GEAR IN "NEUTRAL" AND THEN "PARK", THE MOTOR CONTINUING TO "REV". I DROVE ABOUT 50 FT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL, PUT THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL, THEN PARK, AND THEN SHUT THE MOTOR OFF. I LET THE CAR SIT ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND STARTED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE "REVVED" AS BEFORE SO I DID THE NEUTRAL, PARK, ENGINE OFF SEQUENCE AGAIN AND WAITED ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO START THE ENGINE. SAME PROBLEM. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE THIS TIME, HOWEVER, I WAITED ABOUT 4 OR 5 MINUTES TO START THE ENGINE. THIS TIME THE ENGINE SPEED WAS NORMAL SO I DROVE HOME.
