Air conditioner stops working intermittently
I have a crack in the manifold leading to an exhaust leak. This is apparently a very, very common and known issue with the equinox but there's no recall on the 2013 model. Sounds like there should be.
It failed inspection after repairs secondary air injection pump TCM PMC . Check engine light came back on after it passed .

The car was completely empty of oil even though it wasn’t time for an oil change and there were no leaks or holes. It end up destroying the motor on the vehicle as well. The oil light came on and then the car stop work while driving on the highway. The car was towed to AAmco Transmission and Total Car Care 15282 Veterans Memorial Pkwy Wentzville, MO 63385. 636-223-5113. That’s where the car was assessed at and we found out at that time what the issues was. I then found out this exact issue was on recall for another vin numbers. I call the manufacturer to make them aware of what had taken place with this particular vehicle and was told it wasn’t part of the recall. I then asked even though I have proof that it is the same issues. I was just given a claim number for the call and nothing else happened. So if this happened to our car and thankfully my husband was driving and not my daughter that day it could have been a different situation and she would have not knew how to get it off to the side of the highway while waiting for a tow truck. There was no warning until that day because we were keeping up with our car maintenance.
On Wednesday 10/18/23, the "check engine" light on our 2013 Equinox came on. My husband had been noticing a rattling sound for a few days prior and planned to take the car in on the upcoming Saturday. On Thursday evening10/19/23, he was about to leave for his 2nd job when the car died as he prepared to back out of the driveway. He took my Pilot to work. On Friday 10/20/23, the Equinox was towed to our mechanic who, after running a diagnostic, recommended having it towed to a Chevy dealer and we did so. Hours later, the dealer's service manager called to say the key fob key has become detached in the transfer and they would have to order a new one before assessment could begin. A $350-estimate for that portion was begrudgingly agreed to with the understanding that auto workers are on strike and ... On Tuesday 10/24, the Chevy service manager called to say their department went ahead and used needle-nosed pliers to try to diagnose it w/o waiting. It was late determined that the system was "out of time" which I later learned meant that the timing belt was skipping or something asking other technical things. Bottom line: a new engine is the only fix at a cost of $12k for a car we've only had 8 years. It's KBB value is far, far less. We are now stuck with a worthless car and no way to fix it. Please advise.
As I was coming to a red light, I heard a pop from underneath the front. About 3/4 miles down the road, I started smelling rotten eggs and hearing a rubbing noise. At the next red light, with my foot on the brake, the noise went away but the smell got stronger. When the light changed, the noise came back louder so I safely pulled off the road and had it towed to a dealership. No warning lights came on to indicate a problem. The dealership would not look at it because of a dispute with my repair service. So it was towed to a mechanic that took a picture of the transfer case blow-out. He does not do this type of repair. So I had it towed to a 2nd dealership. This dealership visually confirmed the transfer case issue but indicated he would not let his mechanics work on it because "it is too rusted and the chassis is bent." So I have a 3rd dealership that says they will do the repair. I am currently waiting for their inspection report.
Engine running rough... sputters when started
There is an oil consumption issue. This car needs oil every other week. It’s burning way to much.
Excessive oil consumption. I have had to refill the oil more often than usual and oil changes have been needed prior to reaching the 3,000 - 5,000 miles and before 3 months. This was even after the initial recall was repaired. It has continued to do this.
Rear main seal and not available for inspection. Losing oil too fast and will make car stall when driving it and cause an accident also can ruin motor when driving it. Vehicle was inspected by auto mechanics and needs to be fixed but the 2013 year there was never a recall for this issue. There were no signs of symptoms at all. This started to happen back in December 2022.
UNKNOWN. This particular make & model has an oil consumption recall & a recall on the piston rings due to the oil consumption. I have owned the vehicle since 2019 & have had issues with it every since it was purchased. It was taken to the dealership for idling & a rear knocking consistent noise & they could not find the issue & they were even aware that had recalls but could not find an issue or even offer to fix the recall issue. Now, the past year it has been consuming oil & it has completely stop operating & smokes like crazy. The check engine light is not even on & the car is feeling like it is overheating as well. Still, there are no warning or check engine lights on. The car is not giving any codes on a diagnostic meter. Last year the check engine light came on & all fluids were changed & air intake & valves were replaced as well. I have received both recall letters after purchase but was unsuccessful at getting anyone to locate or search for the recall issue. Our safety was compromised as the car just completely stopped going in traffic & could have caused someone else to hit it due to it stalling. I am not certain at what component has failed but the complete system is inoperable. UNKNOWN cause.
Excessive oil loss. Must check oil every two day. Engine clicking.
I was driving on the highway and the stabilitrak light came on as well as the power steering, ABS, traction control light and engine light then my car literally slowed down and had no power. I was doing 60 mile an hour and it down shifted to almost 5 miles an hour, thank God there were no cars near nor behind me, it would have killed me and my daughter So now the service stabilitrak light is on / the check engine light is on / the power steering light and break light comes on and then goes off. The diagnostic read says – 1.)P0575 Cruise Control switch, 2.)P0700, 3.)U0101 - loss communication with transmission control module replace, 4.)Transmission input shaft speed sensor, 5.)Replace transmission electrical hydraulic control module, 6.)U0073 CAN bus Communication Is there a recall on this – this is very dangerous!!!
Engine light on
My 2013 Equinox has a plugged PCV system. Ironically, this is the same EXACT issue related to a Special Coverage Adjustment put out by Chevy. Special Coverage Adjustment 14882. My car falls into the timeframe of 10 years and under 120,000.00 to have this covered for free but they say my VIN wasn't included in this Special Adjustment. Because my part wasn't made a plant who decided to put out this bulletin, I am just screwed? Dealer had an Equinox in the shop at the same time as mine with the EXACT issue, his car was older than 2013 but his VIN was included. Clearly this is an issue and it isn't right to assume that maybe some parts were missed and can still have the issue even if they weren't made at a particular plant. I want an answer as to why they aren't willing to at least pay half when they are claiming some responsibility and just trying to tell me that my particular part has reached the end of it's life and nothing to do with the VIN's that are included in this adjustment. That is a poor excuse. I was dropping my daughter off at work when all this noise started happening and made it the couple blocks home. Now it has been sitting at the shop for 6 weeks while I have been trying to figure this out. Luckily my other daughter has a car I have been able to use for immediate needs but this is beyond ridiculous. This is a safety issue and something that is a problem with Chevy and no one wants to take ownership.
2013 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. CONSUMER WRITES SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS MADE TO VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CATAYLTIC CONVERTOR FAILED WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE HAPPENED TO FAIL ACROSS THE STREET FROM A REPAIR SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE LOCAL SHOP. THE CONSUMER LATER WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED REIMBURSING THE REPAIR COST DUE TO AFTERMARKET PARTS BEING USED FOR THE REPAIR.
My car received a recall and special coverage notice some months ago and the recall part for the oxygen sensor was fixed but the special coverage they are not wanting to fix the dealership or Gm motors. My Cadillac converter made my pistons go bad because of the oil consumption and there was an open special coverage that I was not notified of last year in 2020 that closed and that would cover the piston ring where so they’re saying they will not cover it anymore even though it was caused by the Cadillac converter that is in the special coverage that is still open for 2022. The dealership at the Chevrolet here in my hometown tells me they are not going to fix it because the coverage is expired on both ends and they’re tired of dealing with me and to go pick up my car. They have also even recommended me to just fill it up with oil every 2500 miles when in reality it’s not even driving those 2500 miles When it eats up the oil. I am risking my car engine blowing out due to this. I am only 19 years old I got this car start my first job and I need it for my job I am risking losing my employment due to this also. They even recommended me that I could drive to my job that’s two hours at a distance back-and-forth so that would be four hours a day and that nothing would happen the next day my engine light turned on showing that the oil fill line was very low. Then they are saying that my paperwork is expired but it is not plus on the paperwork for the special coverage it say that if it is aspired to still fix the deal with the oil consumption. They are taking advantage of me because I am a young woman who is only 19 and they think that I do not know anything about it I feel unsafe driving my car and I want them to fix what needs to be fixed. They are telling me they will not fix it anymore even though the special coverage is still current and they are tired of dealing with me.They told me to go pick up my car because they will not fix it. I am tired of not being heard.
While traveling down one of the main highways outside of Stillwater Ok. While heading into Stillwater our 2013 Equinox lost power and died. We were almost rear ended my a semi. Thank goodness he swerved and we were able to partially be able to coast to the side of the road. As soon as we got to the shoulder and put the car in Park a HUGE puddle of oil gushed out of the car and it had to be towed. The excessive oil consumption that we were not aware of ( and we faithfully had our cars maintained, oil changed, etc) and destroyed the engine of our car. When I first started contacting GM,Chevrolet etc. I was told there was nothing wrong. We put in over $6,000 in our 2013 equinox and would appreciate very much a reimbursement. Thanks- Mp
2013 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. CODE P0014 CODE DEFINITION CAMSHAFT POSITION 'B' - TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE (BANK 1) REPLACED BOTH INTAKE AND EXHAUST VVT. VEHICLE IS LOSING ABOUT A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. TOOK TO DEALER. DID A DIAGNOSTIC. OLD CODE FOUND, NO NEW "PROBLEMS" FOUND. WAS TOLD RUNNING NORMAL. IT DIED 2 TIMES ON THE WAY HOME. THIS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OFF AT A GREEN LIGHT, ALMOST CAUSING A REAR END ACCIDENT TWO TIMES. FORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T NEED TO BREAK OR I WOULD HAVE PROBABLY HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER READING OTHER REVIEWS, THIS APPEARS TO BE A CONTINUATION OF A 2011 PROBLEM WITH THE EQUINOX. I THEN CALLED HIM BACK A WEEK LATER AS I DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM HIM. TOM TOLD ME THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS NOT ENOUGH TO WARRANT THE CAR BEING FIXED. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THIS ANSWER AS THEIR WAS A RECALL, I HAD AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AND DID WHAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO DO AND THEY SHOULD FIX MY CAR. THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT NEVER CAME ON, AND "OIL PRESSURE LOW" OR ENGINE LIGHT NEVER GAVE ME ANY KIND OF WARNING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I WAS OVER THE 120,000 MILEAGE, MY CAR WAS AT 131,699 MILEAGE WHEN I REALIZE WHAT WAS GOING ON, MY CAR IS STILL STALL AND I'M AFRAID THAT SOMEONE WILL RUN INTO THE BACK OF ME WHEN MY CAR STALLS AT THE LIGHT. THERE IS A TSB 15285C WHICH COVERS THE 4 CYLINDER FOR OIL CONSUMPTION. NINE IS THE V6 3.6. THIS GOES THROUGH 1 QUART EVERY 350 MILES. I'VE BEEN TO 2 DEALERS AND WAS TOLD MINE IS NOT COVERED. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS REPAIR. WHAT CAN BE DONE? I BOUGHT USED FROM SPITZER CHEVY IN NORTH CANTON OHIO. I THINK THAT THEY KNEW OF THIS AND I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NONE.

HVAC BUTTONS BECAME INOP. THEREFORE, NO DEFROST. VERY DANGEROUS. NO HEAT. NO A/C. NO REAR DEFROST. BACKLIGHT BUTTONS YES ARE ILLUMINATED. I REPLACED TWO FUSES, NO CHANGE. I REPLACED THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR RESISTER, NO CHANGE. NO DEFROST IS VERY DANGEROUS ON MY 2013 CHEVY EQUINOX LT 4 CYL 2.4L. THE BATTERY IS 10 MONTHS OLD. I DISCONNECTED THE ENTIRE BATTERY FOR 15 MINUTES. NO LUCK. YES THE ENTIRE RADIO WORKS FINE. AUDIO IS GOOD. ALSO SERVERAL OF MY RELATIVES WHO HAS THE SAME CAR AS MINE HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIPS ALL ACROSS TOWN ARE OUT OF LOANER CARS AND CAN'T GET TO MINE UNTIL NEXT WEEK. 3 PEOPLE I KNOW TOOK THEIR VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED AND EACH WERE TOLD THEY NEEDED A TUNE UP. AFTER RECEIVING THE TUNE UP THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINED. ALL OF OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ARE ON.

PROBLEM BEGAN JANUARY OF 2018, LESS THAN 3 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND ONLY 630000 MILES. WHEN TAKEN TO HAVE SERVICED WAS TOLD 3.5 QUARTS LOW IN OIL YET NO LOW OIL INDICATOR LIGHT EVER CAME ON AND CAM SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED.

I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO CHEVROLET MULTIPLE TIMES BECAUSE IT CUTS OUT WHEN IDLING AND SOMETIMES DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM TOLD ME AROUND 40000 MILES THAT SOMETIMES 'YOU JUST GET A BAD APPLE.' THEY REPLACED MY MOTOR UNDER WARRANTY ABOUT 20,000 MILES AGO WITH A BRAND NEW MOTOR AND NOW MY CAR IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. I CONTACTED CUSTOMER CARE AT CHEVROLET AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE CLOSEST DEALER TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC TEST RUN AT MY EXPENSE BECAUSE MY WARRANTY IS OUT... MIND YOU I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUE SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR... AND WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T SERVICE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THE WARRANTY WORK DONE AT THAT LOCATION. I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE WE'VE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED MULTIPLE TIMES AND I HAVE VERY SMALL CHILDREN. I CAN'T DRIVE ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT REPLACED IT WHEN I AM THE ONE PAYING FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC EXAM ANYWAY....SO I KEEP GETTING CONFLICTING RESPONSES FROM CHEVY AND THEIR DEALERSHIPS. I HAVE GOTTEN THE RUN AROUND SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW OFF THE LOT. I JUST ALMOST HAVE IT PAID OFF AND CAN'T AFFORD FOR THEM TO KEEP SCREWING ME AROUND, NOR CAN I AFFORD A NEW CAR. MY CAR LOSES THE ENGINE BUT ALL BATTERY FUNCTIONS WORK. IT HAPPENS WHILE IDLING, DRIVING SLOWLY AND EVEN ON THE HIGHWAY! IT'S SO DANGEROUS AND MANY PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE SAME CAR IF RESEARCHED ONLINE.

I WAS TOLD IT HAD TO BE TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP LEARNED THAT THERE IS A BULLETIN FROM GM STATING THAT WHEN THE SEAL BURTS, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD HAS TO BE PULLED AND CHECKED FOR BLOCKAGE...WHICH THE CONSUMBER HAS TO PAY FOR.....GM DOES NOT.....WHY??

THESE ISSUES BEGAN AROUND THE 18K MILES AND I AM AT 31K MILES NOW. IT HAPPENS NO LESS THAN TWICE BEFORE I TAKE IT INTO THE SHOP. I HAD IT IN THE SHOP ANOTHER TIME BECAUSE I PRESSED THE GAS PEDDLE AFTER A COMPLETE STOP AND DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, I WAS AT 3000RPMS. THIS ISSUE BEGAN AT THE 31K MILES AND ONLY OCCURRED ONCE. AGAIN, THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE IT, SO THERE WAS NOTHING TO FIX. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER ORIGINAL FACTORY WARRANTY.

TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THE ABSENTS OF A WAY TO CHECK THE FLUID AND WAS TOLD ALL NEW VEHICLES NO LONGER HAVE A DIP STICK TO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVELS. THIS TO ME IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IF YOU RELY ON SOME SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO TELL YOU THAT YOUR FLUID IS LOW OR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED YOU COULD BE PAYING MONEY THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE NECESSARY. IF YOUR ON A TRIP OF ANY DISTANCE YOU COULD BE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WITH A TRANSMISSION THAT WAS DESTROYED BECAUSE OF LACK OF FLUID THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED HAD THE FLUIDS BEEN CHECKED PRIOR TO YOUR TRIP. HOW ABOUT DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THE TRANSMISSION COMES APART FOR LACK OF FLUID AN YOU HAVE AN 18 WHEELER BEHIND YOU AND THE TRANSMISSION LOCKS UP THAT 18 WHEELER WOULD ROLL RIGHT OVER THE TOP OF DISABLED VEHICLE. I BELIEVE A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED TO ALL MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLES WITH NO FLUID DIPSTICK FOR FLUID CHECK OF THE TRANSMISSION SUCH AS THAT OF MY 2013 CHEVROLET.

THE VEHICLE OPERATOR INSERTED THE SWITCHBLADE STYLE KEY INTO THE IGNITION. OPERATOR WENT TO TURN THE IGNITION OVER TO START THE ENGINE. THE KEY FOB'S METAL CASING FOR THE KEY BROKE. THIS RESULTED IN 3 PIECES, THE REMOTE KEY FOB BODY, THE KEY & THE METAL COVER OF THE KEY. THE HINGE OR THE SWTICHBLADE PORTION IS STILL CONNECTED TO THE FOB. CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE COULD NOT GIVE AN ANSWER AS TO WHAT ACTIONS COULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN OR ANSWER IF THE IGNITION SWITCH BEEN BUMPED WHILE THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE. THIS VEHICLE IS 1200 MILES OUT OF THE "COVERED" WARRANTY.

THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT CAUSED THE EQUINOX TO ROLL OVER ONTO ITS SIDE AND ONLY THE SIDE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. EQUINOX RECEIVED DAMAGE TO ALL AREAS OF THE VEHICLE EXCEPT PASSENGER SIDE FENDER AND FRONT END.
